In this work fully biomass-based hydrogels were developed using a naturally occurring vegetable hydrocolloid co-mingled with wood-derived nanocellulose fibrils. Two distinct types of hydrocolloids have been considered: a seaweed-derived biopolymer (alginate) and a plant-derived biopolymer (pectin).
