Este trabalho teve como objetivo conhecer as características de idosos participantes do Centro Cultural e avaliar os resultados referentes à prática do ballet clássico na manutenção da autonomia funcional. O estudo foi realizado entre o período de junho a setembro de 2013. Foram selecionados oito sujeitos com idade de 60 anos ou mais, praticantes de ballet clássico em uma vez por semana. Todos os sujeitos assinaram um Termo de Consentimento Livre e Escla­recido que garante o anonimato e a possibilidade de desistência. Para coleta de dados utilizou-se uma adaptação do Sistema Sênior de Avaliação da Autonomia de Ação (SysSen),aplicando apenas o questionário sênior de atividades físicas (QSAP) sobre três dimensões: (a) o que o indivíduo faz; (b) o que o indivíduo deve fazer; (c) o que o indivíduo deseja fazer,além de cinco questões abertas referente a prática do ballet clássico. O QSAP permite definir índices representativos das necessidades pessoais relativas a aspectos previamente selecionados da aptidão física. Os dados contidos na aplicação dos formulários foram digitados e tabulados no programa Microsoft Office Excel 2007. Após o período de 120 dias aplicou-se novamente o teste, buscando alterações positivas. Os resultados mostraram que 71% apresentaram melhoria na memória e equilíbrio. Quanto à autonomia 89% dos sujeitos voltaram a executar atividades como limpar o chão, agachar, levantar e subir escadas. Ainda assim, os dados nos mostraram que sentimentos de oportunidade, realização pessoal, superação foram proporcionados através da prática do ballet clássico.

Describe the perception of the ostomized individual about the experience with the intestinal ostomy. Qualitative research of patients with intestinal ostomies, the data collect occurred between January to February 2022. A semi-structured script was elaborated with broad questions that allowed the perception of the ostomized individual with the intestinal ostomy. Fourteen (100%) people with intestinal ostomy participated. The data analysis made it possible to identify three thematic nuclei: Impacts of Ostomy on Lifestyle; Illness Acceptance and Ostomization Care. In addition, this study is adequate for the perception of people with stomas and the need of teaching knowledge that transcends the biological aspects and value socio-affective skills and therapeutic relationships between health professionals and the patient.

Aim: Implementation of a web-form based pharmacovigilance plan for the spontaneous notification of adverse events to the Comirnaty® COVID-19 vaccine during its administration to hospital healthcare professionals. Methods: An electronic pharmacovigilance form was developed containing 8 pre-defined event options, an open answer option for the description of other events and/or symptoms, and a question about the overall intensity of symptoms. The adverse events reports were standardized according to physiological and pathological condition. Results: A total of 4119 adverse events notifications were obtained with a 45% rate of electronic notification. The most clinically relevant events reported were:tachycardia (n = 19), dyspnea (n = 7), chest pain (n = 6), facial/labial edema (n = 6), lipothymia (n = 5), bronchospasm (n = 2), herpetic infection (n = 2), vasculitis (n = 2), arrhythmia (n = 1), difficult to control arterial hypertension (n = 1), gastritis (n = 1), and spontaneous abortion (n = 1). Regarding the intensity of symptoms (n = 2928), 70.0% were reported as mild, 25.8% as moderate, and 4.27% as severe, with higher intensity in the second dose compared to first dose. The highest frequency of severe events were reported in the groups from 40 to 59 years in both vaccination periods. During the vaccination process, no hospitalizations and no deaths were notified and/or recorded. Conclusion: In this real world study, comparing with Comirnaty clinical trials program, it was observed a higher frequency of adenomegaly and gastrointestinal disorders. Noteworthy, the notification of a case of miscarriage. The use of hospital pharmacy pharmacovigilance electronic forms, seemed to be relevant to notification adherence and to obtain a greater and faster knowledge of COVID-19 vaccine safety profile

The medicinal uses of Calotropis procera are diverse, yet some of them are based on effects that still lack scientific support. Control of diabetes is one of them. Recently, latex proteins from C. procera latex (LP) have been shown to promote in vivo glycemic control by the inhibition of hepatic glucose production via AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). Glycemic control has been attributed to an isolated fraction of LP (CpPII), which is composed of cysteine peptidases (95%) and osmotin (5%) isoforms. Those proteins are extensively characterized in terms of chemistry, biochemistry and structural aspects. Furthermore, we evaluated some aspects of the mitochondrial function and cellular mechanisms involved in CpPII activity. The effect of CpPII on glycemic control was evaluated in fasting mice by glycemic curve and glucose and pyruvate tolerance tests. HepG2 cells was treated with CpPII, and cell viability, oxygen consumption, PPAR activity, production of lactate and reactive oxygen species, mitochondrial density and protein and gene expression were analyzed. CpPII reduced fasting glycemia, improved glucose tolerance and inhibited hepatic glucose production in control animals. Additionally, CpPII increased the consumption of ATP-linked oxygen and mitochondrial uncoupling, reduced lactate concentration, increased protein expression of mitochondrial complexes I, III and V, and activity of peroxisome-proliferator-responsive elements (PPRE), reduced the presence of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and increased mitochondrial density in HepG2 cells by activation of AMPK/PPAR. Our findings strongly support the medicinal use of the plant and suggest that CpPII is a potential therapy for prevention and/or treatment of type-2 diabetes. A common epitope sequence shared among the proteases and osmotin is possibly the responsible for the beneficial effects of CpPII.

The human neonatal cerebellum is one-fourth of its adult size yet contains the blueprint required to integrate environmental cues with developing motor, cognitive and emotional skills into adulthood. Although mature cerebellar neuroanatomy is well studied, understanding of its developmental origins is limited. In this study, we systematically mapped the molecular, cellular and spatial composition of human fetal cerebellum by combining laser capture microscopy and SPLiT-seq single-nucleus transcriptomics. We profiled functionally distinct regions and gene expression dynamics within cell types and across development. The resulting cell atlas demonstrates that the molecular organization of the cerebellar anlage recapitulates cytoarchitecturally distinct regions and developmentally transient cell types that are distinct from the mouse cerebellum. By mapping genes dominant for pediatric and adult neurological disorders onto our dataset, we identify relevant cell types underlying disease mechanisms. These data provide a resource for probing the cellular basis of human cerebellar development and disease.

Redox imbalance can lead to irreversible damages to biological functions. In this context, rutin stands out for its antioxidant potential. The objective of this study was to evaluate the acute and chronic effect of rutin on the hepatic redox imbalance. The study was performed according to three different protocols. First, healthy male Swiss mice were divided into two groups: control and rutin, the second of which received chronic oral supplementation of rutin (10 mg/kg). Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of liver transplantation in food intake and nutritional status of severe cirrhotic patients. Methods:The sample consisted of 23 patients who underwent liver transplantation. Three 24-hour dietary recall were applied and anthropometric measurements were collected before and three months after transplantation. The consumption of macronutrients and fat soluble vitamins were also evaluated. The anthropometric data evaluated were body mass index, abdominal circumference, percentage of adequacy of arm circumference, triceps skinfold thickness and arm muscle circumference. Related mean comparison tests, comparison of changes in the proportions of categorical variables and correlation of quantitative variables were used in the statistical analysis. Data were considered to be significant when p < 0.05. Results: Most patients were female and aged between 40 and 65 years. The average consumption of calories, proteins, lipids, cholesterol and monounsaturated fatty acids was significantly higher after liver transplantation (p < 0.05). The average of anthropometric parameters did not differ significantly between the evaluated times. There was no significant change in nutrient intake or anthropometric classification after transplantation. Most patients were classified as malnourished or overweight after transplantation, according to some anthropometric parameters. Conclusion: Food consumption changed after transplantation. There was no change in the nutritional status from pre- to post-transplant but, in general, most patients had altered nutritional status in both evaluation moments.

Jerked beef (JB) is a salty and dry meat product, which is considered the evolution of traditional charque (CH). Despite being a product subject to inspection by several government spheres, its production process may suffer some variations depending on the manufacturer, as the Technical Regulation of Identity and Quality of the product does not establish the time allocated to each processing step. The determination of volatile organic compounds (VOC) can reveal characteristic substances of the food and possible quality markers. The application of solid-phase microextraction in the headspace, in series with gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (HS/SPME-GC/MS), allowed the detection of 103 VOC, among acids, ketones, aldehydes, amines, alcohols, hydrocarbons, ethers, esters and others. Acetic, butanoic and pentanoic acids were identified and associated with the characterization of the JB product, having already been correlated in previous studies to deterioration in fresh meat. Compounds possibly from the migration of plastic packagings, such as caprolactam and oxalic acid, were observed in the analyzed samples.

Objetivo: o presente estudo busca avaliar se o guaraná poderia ser utilizado no antienvelhecimento. Métodos: foi realizada uma revisão sistemática de acordo com as normas do PRISMA. As bases de dados utilizadas foram Scielo e Medline (PUBMED). Foram incluídos artigos originais publicados entre 2016 e 2021 que avaliem os efeitos da suplementação do guaraná sobre os marcadores do envelhecimento. Foi realizada a avaliação de risco de viés pelo SYRCLE. Oito publicações foram incluídas nesta revisão após a análise dos critérios de inclusão e exclusão. Resultados: o guaraná aumentou a expectativa de vida e reduziu os marcadores de envelhecimento pelo seu efeito antioxidante. O guaraná preveniu o ganho de peso, a resistência à insulina, a desregulação de adipocinas, estimulou a biogênese mitocondrial e apresentou atividade anti-inflamatória. Assim, a ativação do tecido adiposo parece ser um dos mecanismos de ação envolvidos na suplementação de guaraná como antienvelhecimento. Contudo, a maioria dos estudos tiveram alto risco de viés, quanto ao uso do guaraná no retardo das alterações associadas ao envelhecimento. Conclusão: desta forma, para que se tenha uma recomendação da aplicabilidade do guaraná, faz-se necessária a realização de mais estudos com melhor qualidade metodológica.
