Introduction: A quality night sleep is essential for physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being. The amount of sleep may have an effect on both weight and metabolism. In India, for the last few years, decline in sleep duration has been noted with an average sleep duration of 7 hours per night and one-third sleeping less than 7 hours per night. Televisions and smartphones which came into households as remarkable source of information and entertainment has caused the voluntary sleep restriction. Aim: To evaluate the sleep quality, Body Mass Index (BMI) and Blood Pressure (BP) of the healthcare students and also to find the correlation of sleep quality with BMI and BP. Material and Methods: The present cross-sectional study was conducted on 138 healthy males and females healthcare students residing in hostel premises of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Karnataka, India from November to December 2021. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaires administered to assess the sleep quality by adding the seven components of PSQI score ranging from 0 to 21. A weighing scale, sphygmomanometer, and stadiometer instruments were used to record the weight, BP, and height. Data were computed in International Business Management (IBM) Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software version 23.0 to analyse descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The mean age in present study was 23±0.72 years and 71 (51.4%) belonged to 22-23 years, majority 112 (81.2%) were female students. In present study, moderately obese students (33.15±0.72) and severely obese (35.39±0.10) had mean sleep score of 6.00±3.46 and 11 respectively indicating poor sleep quality. The underweight (16.91±1.17), normal weight (21.49±2.04) and overweight (26.49±1.48) had mean sleep score of 3.08±1.62, 3.08±1.12 and 4.66±3.05 respectively, which indicated good sleep quality. Students with hypotension, normal BP and hypertension stage-1 showed mean sleep score of 3.52, 2.71 and 4.77 respectively, showing good sleep quality. A statistically significant positive correlation of BMI was found with SBP (r-value 0.273, p-value 0.001) and DBP (r-value 0.181, p-value 0.033). Conclusion: BMI and BP were positively correlated with sleep quality. Therefore, creating awareness among healthcare students on healthy lifestyles such as exercise, healthy sleep and regular health supervision is essential to prevent prehypertension and maintain normal BMI status. Leishmaniasis, a parasitic disease caused by Leishmania parasite which resides in the infected sand flies. Control of Leishmaniasis remains a source of grave concern worldwide. Studies on Leishmaniasis triggered because of its outbreak in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, East Africa and South America. There is an urgent need for new therapeutic interventions such as vaccine and new drug targets as it develops resistance towards the available drugs. Quercetin, a derivative of polyphenolic flavonoid exhibits various biological activities by interacting with proteins and nucleic acids. In this study, computational analysis was performed to identify the potential drug target of Quercetin in Leishmania species by molecular docking. The newly predicted targets were subjected for subcellular localization prediction and determined the protein-protein interaction networks that would aid in the development of anti-Leishmanial drugs. Objective: To record prevalence of malocclusion among 2,400 adolescents in Karnataka state, India and to deine difference in malocclusion status in urban and rural population. Design: Randomized cross-sectional study. Setting: School students of Karnataka state, 24 August 2011 to 30 March 2012. Participants: School students in the age group of 13-17 years. Materials and Methods: Each individual was assessed for occlusal traits - sagittal occlusion, overjet, overbite, crowding, midline diastema, and crossbite. Statistical Analysis Used: Examinations were computerized and analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 16. Chi-square test was used for computing statistical signiicance. Results: 87.79% of population had malocclusion. Out of which 89.45% had class I, 8.37% had class II, and 2.14% had class III malocclusion. Normal overjet and overbite was seen in 48.22 and 49.87% of subjects, respectively. Frequency of crowding was 58.12% and 15.43% of subjects had midline diastema. Anterior crossbite was present in 8.48% and posterior crossbite in 0.99%. Urban population had twice the class II sagittal occlusion, and increased overjet as compared to rural population. Conclusions: Malocclusion is widely spread among population of Karnataka state, with greater prevalence in urban population. Early exfoliation of deciduous teeth and reined diet can be considered as viable etiological factors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Maslinic acid is a naturally occurring dihydroxy, mono-carboxy bioactive triterpenoid. Its bulky structure was the main hindrance in the path of biological activity. Sodium and potassium salts of nano-sized triterpenoid maslinic acid were prepared from maslinic acid and its self-assembly property was studied in aqueous and aqueous-organic binary liquid mixtures. Morphology of the compounds studied by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM), Optical Microscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) revealed vesicular morphology of the self-assemblies. Selective cytotoxicity was performed in leukemic (K-562 and KG-1a) and PBMC cells. Among the three self-assemblies (maslinic acid 1, sodium maslinate 2 and potassium maslinate 3), sodium maslinate 2 showed better antileukemic efficacy. Sodium maslinate 2 induced apoptosis in leukemic cells by elevating ROS levels and disrupting the cellular antioxidant system. From the in-silico studies, it was confirmed that 2 interacted with extrinsic and intrinsic apoptotic proteins of leukemic cells and killed those cells by inducing apoptotic pathways. Aim: The aim of this split-mouth, blinded randomized controlled trial was to evaluate the clinical and radiographic effects of locally delivered 1,25 dihydroxycholecalciferol (1,25 DHC) on the amount of canine distalization., Materials and Methods: Fifteen patients between age groups of 15 years to 30 years willing to undergo orthodontic treatment in a dental college participated in the study. A computer-generated randomization list was generated to divide the maxillary arch into experimental side and control side. Allocation concealment was applied. Canine distalization was initiated using nickel-titanium (NiTi) closed coil springs delivering a force of 150 g per side, which was attached to the maxillary first molar tube and canine hook. Local periodontal gel injection of 1,25 DHC was given on the experimental side and placebo gel on the control side at distal side of the maxillary canine at monthly interval, respectively. Patients were evaluated from beginning (T 0 ), 4 weeks (T 1 ), 8 weeks (T 2 ), and 12 weeks (T 3 ). CT scans were taken at T 0 and T 3 to measure the changes in bone density. The difference in amount of canine distalization and the changes in bone density were assessed on the experimental and control sides, respectively. Descriptive statistics and paired t test were used to determine any differences., Results: The results showed statistically significant increase in the amount of canine distalization and decrease in cancellous bone density on the experimental side when compared to control side., Conclusion: The active form of vitamin D can be an effective agent to accelerate orthodontic tooth movement (OTM)., Clinical Significance: This study provides a new insight into the scope of vitamin D in clinical orthodontics and its innovative method of application to accelerate tooth movement in patients will revolutionize treatment as well as open newer boundaries in orthodontic research at a biomolecular level.

Molar uprighting cases require individualized treatment planning depending upon condition of ridge, growth pattern of patient, periodontal condition, lower facial height, position of third molar and anchorage. Uprighting of molar was done in two cases--effectively using simple tip back spring in one case and implant in another.
