Weather has a profound influence on crop growth, development and yield. The present study deals with the use of weather parameters for sugarcane yield forecasting. Machine learning techniques like K- Nearest Neighbors (KNN) and Random Forest model have been used for sugarcane yield forecasting. Weather parameters namely maximum temperature and minimum temperature, rainfall, relative humidity in the morning and evening, sunshine hours, evaporation along with sugarcane yield have been used as inputs variables. The performance metrics like R2, Mean Square Error (MSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) have been used to select the best model for predicting the yield of the crop. Among the models, Random Forest algorithm is selected as the best fit based on the high R2 and minimum error values. The results indicate that among the weather variables, rainfall and relative humidity in the evening have significant influence on sugarcane yield.

Objectives: The study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of parents/caregivers toward epilepsy in paediatric patients at a tertiary care centre of North India. Methods: A cross sectional study was carried out among 418 parents or caregivers using convenience sampling technique with 16-item questionnaire in English language and also translated to local language that is Hindi. Children with epilepsy who visited the paediatric outpatient department within a year were included in the study (January 2021–22). A total of 450 children visited the clinic, 32 of whom were excluded for various reasons, and the final analysis was conducted among the 418 parents or caregivers who completed the questionnaire. Results: The male and female patients were 56.7% (n = 237) and 43.3% (n = 181) respectively. The age distribution of patients with less than 5 years, 6–10 years and more than 10 years were 35.6% (n = 149), 54.5% (n = 228), 9.8% (n = 41) respectively. Only one third of parents and caregivers did not consider epilepsy as psychiatric illness. Most of the parents and caregivers think that epilepsy affects school performance (77.2%) and hinders family life (71.0%). More than half of the parents or caregivers believes that the society discriminates against person with epilepsy and around 46.6% consider that alternative medicine can cure epilepsy. The parents or caregivers felt financial burden due to epilepsy was in 72.5% and approximately 78.5% perceived that their work is affected because of their child's epilepsy. Perception of epilepsy as a psychiatric illness was found to be significantly higher in parents with primary and secondary level education, when compared to parents who were graduates. The practice of the parents or caregivers towards administration of drugs to their child was good, however around 36.6% (n = 153) missed the dose of anti-seizure medications. Conclusion: The study highlights the substantial knowledge, attitude and practice gap amongst parents and caregivers for children with epilepsy which indirectly has huge impact on the management of epilepsy. Thus it becomes utmost important to educate the family as well as the community regarding epilepsy which will help in improving the therapeutic outcomes, overall quality of life and interpersonal and social relationships of these children.

Abstract Background Herbal plants are potent in curing various ailments of ancient times as they have comparatively lesser side effects. The demands for natural drugs, mostly from plant sources, are increasing over the past few decades. Because of their potent antioxidant activity, Acacia species are used to treat a variety of diseases. One of the species Acacia ferruginea, an endangered medicinal plant, is widely used in the traditional medicine system, and it is considered that standardization would be beneficial. The present study investigates the physicochemical parameters, preliminary phytochemical screening, trace metals by SEM–EDS, and fluorescence properties of various extracts (non-polar to polar) of leaf and bark parts. Standard spectrophotometric methods (UV–Vis, FT-IR, fluorescence spectroscopy) are employed to analyze the functional groups, and the DPPH and total antioxidant methods are used to assess antioxidant potential. Results The ethyl acetate extract of leaves and ethanol extract of the bark are found to be the highest in yield, 16.32% and 2.54%. Results reveal that the total ash percentage and moisture content are of bark and the water-soluble ash of leaves is higher (10.3 ± 0.85, 7.6 ± 0.34, 3.22 ± 0.24%). The bark polar extract contained more macro-elements such as Na, K, Mg, Ca, S, and Cl. Phytochemical analysis reveals the polar extracts of leaves and bark show saponins, flavonoids, steroids, phenolic compounds, and non-polar extracts show mild positive. The total alkaloids, phenolics, and terpenoids (1.58 ± 0.08%; 0.56 ± 0.11; 0.75 ± 0.15) are found to be higher in A. ferruginea leaves. The FT-IR result shows the presence of alkanes, alkenes, aromatic compounds, aldehydes, phenolics and does not contain any toxic substances since there is no peak observed in the region between 2220 and 2260 cm−1. The in vitro antioxidant activity of the species demonstrated that both the leaf and bark parts have prominent antioxidant properties. Conclusions The results obtained from the preliminary standardization of A. ferruginea are very helpful in the determination of the quality and purity of the crude drug. The refurbished findings of A. ferruginea are promising, and further research is important to identify the bioactive compounds, thereby developing nutritional supplements and medications through therapeutic compound isolation.
