Artykuł porusza temat istniejących w języku judeohiszpańskim etnonimów o pierwotnym znaczeniu ‘Polak’ oraz zmian semantycznych, jakim one ulegały. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono leksemowi lehli – etymologicznie wywodzącemu się od Lechistanu, czyli nazwy nadanej Rzeczypospolitej przez Turków Osmańskich. Obecnie leksem ten używany jest głównie w odniesieniu do Żydów Aszkenazyjskich. Informacje leksykograficzne zostały tu skonfrontowane z realnymi przykładami użycia oraz opiniami rodzimych użytkowników języka judeohiszpańskiego. The aim of this paper is to investigate the existing Judeo-Spanish ethnonyms with the original meaning of ‘Polish’ and the semantic changes that they have undergone. We focus especially on the lexeme lehli (etymologically derived from Lehistan, that is, the denomination of Poland in Ottoman Turkish), which now is used mainly to designate Ashkenazi Jew. We contrast the lexicographical information with real usage examples and opinions of Ladino native speakers.

Rodzaj to jedna z nielicznych kategorii gramatycznych, które wzbudzają zainteresowanie, a także kontrowersje, wśród osób niezwiązanych z językoznawstwem. Wynika to z nałożenia się na siebie dwóch pojęć – pozajęzykowego zjawiska płci biologicznej oraz gramatycznej kategorii rodzaju, czyli systemu klasyfikacji nominalnej wyrażającego się poprzez uzgodnienie. Niniejsza książka ma na celu skontrastowanie realnej natury rodzaju jako kategorii morfoskładniowej z jego postrzeganiem na przestrzeni wieków – zarówno z perspektywy językoznawstwa teoretycznego, jak i stosowanego. Głównym przedmiotem zainteresowania jest system rodzajowy w językach romańskich, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem języków hiszpańskiego i katalońskiego. Pierwsza część pracy ma na celu zdefiniowanie rodzaju gramatycznego na tle innych systemów klasyfikacji nominalnej oraz przybliżenie kwestii jego pochodzenia, funkcji oraz podstaw semantycznych. Punktem wyjścia są rozważania ogólne, by następnie skupić się już konkretnie na rodzaju indoeuropejskim oraz na łacinie i językach romańskich. Z kolei druga połowa pracy poświęcona została refleksji językoznawczej na temat rzeczonej kategorii gramatycznej. Dokonano w niej przeglądu teorii na temat rodzaju od starożytności aż do językoznawstwa kognitywnego, a także prześledzono kwestię opisu systemu rodzajowego w dawnych gramatykach języków hiszpańskiego i katalońskiego. Wnioski zostały osadzone w kontekście aktualnych dyskusji na temat rodzaju gramatycznego i języka inkluzywnego, które od lat toczą się w Hiszpanii. Gender is one of the few grammatical categories which not only arouses interest but also gives room to controversy among non-linguists. This is a result of the overlap of two concepts: the non-linguistic phenomenon of biological gender and the category of grammatical gender, i.e. a system of noun classification triggering agreement. This book aims to contrast the real nature of gender as a morphosyntactic category and its perception over the centuries from the perspective of theoretical and applied linguistics. The main focus is on the Romance languages, especially Spanish and Catalan. The first part of the book presents a definition of the grammatical gender among other systems of noun classification and covers matters relating to the origin, functions and semantic bases of said category. We start with general considerations in order to focus on the Indo-European gender and subsequently Latin and Romance languages. The second part explores the linguistic reflection concerning that grammatical category. It contains an overview of the theory of gender from antiquity to cognitive linguistics and afterward, it examines the description of the gender system in old grammars of Spanish and Catalan. The conclusions were set in the context of the current discussions on grammatical gender and inclusive language that have been taking place in Spain for years.

This paper aims to analyze and compare the presence of Latin American culture in the Polish translations of two Disney’s animated films: Coco and Encanto. We examine the methods to create a vision of Mexican and Colombian culture in those films and how this cultural component is reflected in Polish dubbing. We focus on elements such as proper nouns, kinship terms, greetings, interjections, food, plants, traditions, symbols, etc.

In this paper we aim to analyze a small compilation of Jewish legends set in the city of Cracow from the point of view of the presence of cultural elements typical of the Jewish and Jewish-Polish tradition. We will compare the way of treating these elements in the versions of the legends collected by Artur Kiela in the book "Legendy żydowskiego Krakowa" and in its translation into Spanish made by Abel Murcia (entitled "Leyendas judías de Cracovia"). We are interested in observing, on the one hand, how Jewish culture is presented to a Polish reader, taking into account that nowadays it is practically unknown in Poland, and, on the other hand, examining what strategies and techniques the translator uses to transfer the Jewish cultural component and additionally the Jewish-Polish, in view of the fact that the legends are deeply rooted in the history of the Jewish communities in Poland. En el presente artículo nos proponemos analizar una pequeña recopilación de leyendas judías ambientadas en la ciudad de Cracovia desde el punto de vista de la presencia de elementos culturales propios de la tradición judía y judío-polaca. Compararemos la manera de tratar dichos elementos en las versiones de las leyendas recogidas por Artur Kiela en el libro "Legendy żydowskiego Krakowa" y en su traducción al español hecha por Abel Murcia (titulada "Leyendas judías de Cracovia"). Nos interesa ver, por un lado, cómo se presenta la cultura judía al lector polaco, teniendo en cuenta que en la actualidad es algo que le es prácticamente desconocido, y, por otra parte, examinar qué estrategias y técnicas utiliza el traductor para trasvasar tanto el componente cultural judío como el judío-polaco, en vista de que las leyendas se ven muy arraigadas en la historia de las comunidades judías de Polonia.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the implementation of the measures to “increase women’s visibility” in language as a form of fight against so-called sexism in language in specialized texts in two Romance languages spoken in Spain: Castilian and Catalan. This choice of languages makes it possible to observe how two closely linked languages, although presenting different levels of morphological transparency and codification, respond to the same external phenomena. The paper provides an analysis of the range of use of certain anti-discrimination solutions in documents retrieved from Civil Registry Offices and specialised texts available in existing corpora. El objetivo del presente artículo consiste en analizar el grado de implementación de algunas medidas para “visibilizar a la mujer” en el idioma y luchar contra el llamado sexismo lingüístico en textos especializados redactados en dos lenguas románicas habladas en España: el castellano y el catalán. La elección de los idiomas permite observar cómo dos lenguas estrechamente emparentadas, pero que presentan diferentes niveles de transparencia morfológica y grado de codificación, responden a los mismos fenómenos externos. En el artículo se examina el alcance de uso de ciertas soluciones antidiscriminatorias en los documentos del Registro Civil y en textos especializados accesibles en algunos corpus existentes.

In the 19 th century, French became the language of culture for the Sephardic Jews who lived in the Ottoman Empire. That prestige has left its mark on the development of Judeo-Spanish. The aim of this paper is to present the range of French influence on Dhudezmo, which still can be visible. We will analyze this phenomenon in contemporary Istanbul Judeo-Spanish.

The following paper attempts to define the role of language in the process of collective identity formation by comparing the situation of Poland and Catalonia. While Catalan is the main element of national identity, in the case of Poland the language is not so important because of different historical, geopolitical and cultural circumstances. However, there are some similarities in the formation of both nations, especially in the Romanticism.
