As police organizational justice research continues to mature, this article examines whether an asymmetry exists between positive and negative supervisory experiences on officer perceptions of police performance. The study builds on new theoretical developments in organizational justice that argues for better capturing the independent roles of just and unjust supervisory behaviour. A generally held, but untested, view in the organizational behaviour literature suggests a negative bias: perceptions of unjust supervisors affect employee outcomes more than those viewed as procedurally just. This cross-national test of the impact of supervisory procedural justice finds the existence of a strong positive bias across officer attitudes on police-citizen interactions and rule compliance. Specifically, officer perceptions of just supervisors have a greater influence on officer attitudes toward procedural justice, procedural injustice, and rule compliance in their interactions with the public.

Objective This study aimed to explore experiences of follow-up after treatment and views on an electronic patient-reported outcome (ePRO) pathway among ovarian cancer patients and clinicians. Methods Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with clinicians and patients previously treated for ovarian cancer. Interviews explored experiences of the current follow-up pathway, patients' needs and views on an ePRO pathway enabling patients to report symptoms online rather than attend clinic-based appointments. Transcripts were analysed using framework analysis. Results Sixteen patients and 10 clinicians participated from four hospitals in England. Four key themes were identified: transition into follow-up, key features of effective follow-up, issues in follow-up and views of ePRO. Both patients and clinicians saw benefits of an ePRO pathway alongside continued access to specialist support and discussed various practicalities (e.g., frequency, introduction and communication). Technology concerns and feelings of abandonment were highlighted as barriers. The proposed impact on clinical and individual patient outcomes was discussed. Conclusion Patient and clinician views on follow-up and an ePRO pathway informed key recommendations on the development/introduction of ePRO follow-up. Technology use in healthcare will continue to grow and may offer solutions to facilitate responsive and tailored care. Further research should explore the safety, experiences and acceptability of ePRO follow-up.

An experimental program in which regular General Mathematics 9, 10, and 11 courses were supplemented by instruction in business machines was evaluated. Results of the Test of Mathematical Fundamentals and the Mathematics Test Supplement (see sample, Appendix A) showed no significant superiority in achievement for students in the experimental group over students in the regular program. In understanding the genetics of polygenic disorders, the modifying effects of the different environmental factors experienced by individuals are particularly important. We have detected such an interaction between environmental modulation of the effect of two mutations in the lipoprotein lipase gene which alter amino acids (D9N and N291S) to result in a moderate reduction in the lipoprotein lipase activity and mass secreted from COS cells in transient expression assays. Each mutation occurs at a frequency of 2%-3% in the general population, and carriers for these mutations have slightly elevated plasma triglyceride and lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, as expected from the role of lipoprotein lipase in lipoprotein metabolism. However, when these individuals also are obese, the effect on plasma lipid levels is marked, such that the individuals are predicted to be at a significant risk of atherosclerosis. This increase in risk may be because obesity promotes overproduction of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins from the liver, which overwhelms the already partially deficient lipoprotein lipase in the adipose and muscle. Individuals with the lipoprotein lipase S291 variant have significantly greater postprandial lipemia, in support of this mechanism, and carriers of such mutations may have a distinct response to changes in dietary fat. An understanding of the mechanisms of these effects will help to identify individuals who may be particularly responsive to small dietary changes and to identify potential therapeutic targets.

We conducted a pilot study to examine the influence of common genetic variation in the apolipoprotein B gene on postprandial Lipid and lipoprotein metabolism, in a group of 30 individuals who had survived a myocardial infarction before the age of 45 (normo- and hypertriglyceridemic patients) and 11 age-matched healthy individuals. Postprandial lipid or lipoprotein levels were examined by apolipoprotein B signal peptide genotype in the three separate groups, and after adjustment for fasting triglycerides in the whole group combined. For the signal peptide polymorphisms individuals with one or more SP24 allele had a 38% smaller mean area under curve (P = 0.06) for postprandial large chylomicron remnants and a 29% smaller mean area under curve (P = 0.02) for large, very low density lipoproteins compared to individuals homozygous for the wild type signal peptide 27 allele. This difference was due to a slower increase of these lipoproteins in the early postprandial period in carriers of the signal peptide 24 allele (6.5 mg/L/hr versus 15 mg/L/hr for homozygosity for the signal peptide 27 allele). These results lend support to our yeast expression studies of fusion proteins of apolipoprotein B signal peptide isoforms and yeast invertase; compared to the signal peptide 27, the signal peptide 24 mediated inefficient translocation into the endoplasmic reticulum and was secretion defective. Expression studies of apolipoprotein B signal peptide variants in mammalian cells are underway. Thus this pilot suggests that the apolipoprotein B signal peptide alleles confer a functional difference on apolipoprotein B secretion that is reflected in the postprandial state.

Between 31st August and 23rd September 2016, Oxford Archaeology undertook an archaeological watching brief, on behalf of Value Retail, on the footings and a service trench for a retail development at Bicester Village 4. Archaeological deposits were scarce, with a tree throw hole the only cut feature to be encountered. The deposits encountered were mainly truncated alluvial clays sealing a limestone natural. It was evident through the excavation of the footings that any potential archaeological remains would have been removed during the construction of the previous building, prior to the current phase of construction. No finds or environmental material were present.
