Abstract: Utilizing the full CLEO-c data sample of 818 pb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ data taken at the $\psi(3770)$ resonance, we update our measurements of absolute hadronic branching fractions of charged and neutral $D$ mesons. We previously reportedresults from subsets of these data. Using a double tag technique we obtain branching fractions for three $D^0$ and six $D^+$ modes, including the reference branching fractions $\mathcal{B} (D^0\to K^-\pi^+)=(3.934 \pm 0.021 \pm 0.061)\%$ and $\mathcal{B} (D^+ \to K^- \pi^+\pi^+)=(9.224 \pm 0.059 \pm 0.157)\%$. The uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. In these measurements we include the effects of final-state radiation by allowing for additional unobserved photons in the final state, and the systematic errors include our estimates of the uncertainties of these effects. Furthermore, using an independent measurement of the luminosity, we obtain the cross sections $\sigma(e^+e^-\to D^0\overline{D}{}^0)=(3.607\pm 0.017 \pm 0.056) \ \mathrm{nb}$ and $\sigma(e^+e^-\to D^+D^-)=(2.882\pm 0.018 \pm 0.042) \ \mathrm{nb}$ at a center of mass energy, $E_\mathrm{cm} = 3774 \pm 1$ MeV., Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures, and 6 tables. Abstract: The branching fractions of Ds meson decays serve to normalize many measurements of processes involving charm quarks. Using 586 pb^-1 of e+ e- collisions recorded at a center of mass energy of 4.17 GeV, we determine absolute branching fractions for 13 Ds decays in 16 reconstructed final states with a double tag technique. In particular we make a precise measurement of the branching fraction B(Ds -> K- K+ pi+) = (5.55 +- 0.14 +- 0.13)%, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic respectively. We find a significantly reduced value of B(Ds -> pi+ pi0 eta') compared to the world average, and our results bring the inclusively and exclusively measured values of B(Ds -> eta' X)$ into agreement. We also search for CP-violating asymmetries in Ds decays and measure the cross-section of e+ e- -> Ds* Ds at Ecm = 4.17 GeV., Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures. Submitted to Physical Review D. Abstract: We analyze a sample of 3 million quantum-correlated D0 D0bar pairs from 818 pb^-1 of e+e- collision data collected with the CLEO-c detector at E_cm = 3.77 GeV, to give an updated measurement of \cos\delta and a first determination of \sin\delta, where \delta is the relative strong phase between doubly Cabibbo-suppressed D0 --> K+pi- and Cabibbo-favored D0bar --> K+pi- decay amplitudes. With no inputs from other experiments, we find \cos\delta = 0.81 +0.22+0.07 -0.18-0.05, \sin\delta = -0.01 +- 0.41 +- 0.04, and |\delta| = 10 +28+13 -53-0 degrees. By including external measurements of mixing parameters, we find alternative values of \cos\delta = 1.15 +0.19+0.00 -0.17-0.08, \sin\delta = 0.56 +0.32+0.21 -0.31-0.20, and \delta = (18 +11-17) degrees. Abstract: The first measurements of the coherence factor R_{K_S^0K\pi} and the average strong--phase difference \delta^{K_S^0K\pi} in D^0 \to K_S^0 K^\mp\pi^\pm decays are reported. These parameters can be used to improve the determination of the unitary triangle angle \gamma\ in B^- \rightarrow $\widetilde{D}K^-$ decays, where $\widetilde{D}$ is either a D^0 or a D^0-bar meson decaying to the same final state, and also in studies of charm mixing. The measurements of the coherence factor and strong-phase difference are made using quantum-correlated, fully-reconstructed D^0D^0-bar pairs produced in e^+e^- collisions at the \psi(3770) resonance. The measured values are R_{K_S^0K\pi} = 0.70 \pm 0.08 and \delta^{K_S^0K\pi} = (0.1 \pm 15.7)$^\circ$ for an unrestricted kinematic region and R_{K*K} = 0.94 \pm 0.12 and \delta^{K*K} = (-16.6 \pm 18.4)$^\circ$ for a region where the combined K_S^0 \pi^\pm invariant mass is within 100 MeV/c^2 of the K^{*}(892)^\pm mass. These results indicate a significant level of coherence in the decay. In addition, isobar models are presented for the two decays, which show the dominance of the K^*(892)^\pm resonance. The branching ratio {B}(D^0 \rightarrow K_S^0K^+\pi^-)/{B}(D^0 \rightarrow K_S^0K^-\pi^+) is determined to be 0.592 \pm 0.044 (stat.) \pm 0.018 (syst.), which is more precise than previous measurements., Comment: 38 pages. Abstract: The first flavor-tagged amplitude analysis of the decay D0 to the self-conjugate final state K+K-pi+pi- is presented. Data from the CLEO II.V, CLEO III, and CLEO-c detectors are used, from which around 3000 signal decays are selected. The three most significant amplitudes, which contribute to the model that best fits the data, are phirho0, K1(1270)+-K-+, and non-resonant K+K-pi+pi-. Separate amplitude analyses of D0 and D0-bar candidates indicate no CP violation among the amplitudes at the level of 5% to 30% depending on the mode. In addition, the sensitivity to the CP-violating parameter gamma/phi3 of a sample of 2000 B+ -> D0-tilde(K+K-pi+pi-)K+ decays, where D0-tilde is a D0 or D0-bar, collected at LHCb or a future flavor facility, is estimated to be (11.3 +/- 0.3) degrees using the favored model., Comment: 40 pages, 7 figures and submitted to Phys. Abstract: Using the entire CLEO-c psi(3770) to DDbar event sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 818 pb^-1 and approximately 5.4 x 10^6 DDbar events, we measure the form factors for the decays D0 to rho- e+ nu_e and D+ to rho0 e+ nu_e for the first time and the branching fractions with improved precision. A four-dimensional unbinned maximum likelihood fit determines the form factor ratios to be: V(0)/A_1(0) = 1.48 +- 0.15 +- 0.05 and A_2(0)/A_1(0)= 0.83 +- 0.11 +- 0.04. Assuming CKM unitarity, the known D meson lifetimes and our measured branching fractions we obtain the form factor normalizations A_1(0), A_2(0), and V(0). Abstract: Using a data sample of 2.59 x 10^7 psi(2S) decays obtained with the CLEO-c detector, we perform amplitude analyses of the complementary decay chains chi_c1 -> eta pi+ pi- and chi_c1 -> eta' pi+ pi-. We find evidence for a P-wave eta' pi scattering amplitude, which, if interpreted as a resonance, would have exotic J^PC = 1^-+ and parameters consistent with the pi_1(1600) state reported in other production mechanisms. We also make the first observation of the decay a_0(980) -> eta' pi and measure the ratio of branching fractions B(a_0(980) -> eta' pi)/B(a_0(980) -> eta pi) = 0.064 +- 0.014 +- 0.014. Abstract: Using e^+e^- collision data corresponding to 5.88M Y(3S) [25.9M psi(2S)] decays and acquired by the CLEO III [CLEO-c] detectors operating at CESR, we study the single-pion transitions from Y(3S) [psi(2S)] to the respective spin-singlet states h_{b[c]}. Utilizing only the momentum of suitably selected transition-pi^0 candidates, we obtain the upper limit B(Y(3S) -> pi^0 h_b) < 1.2\times 10^{-3} at 90% confidence level, and measure B(psi(2S) -> pi^0 h_c) = (9.0+-1.5+-1.3)\times 10^{-4}. Abstract: We present the results of a Dalitz plot analysis of D^0 to K^0_S pi^0 pi^0 using the CLEO-c data set of 818 inverse pico-barns of e^+ e^- collisions accumulated at sqrt{s} = 3.77 GeV. This corresponds to three million D^0 D^0-bar pairs from which we select 1,259 tagged candidates with a background of 7.5 +- 0.9 percent. Several models have been explored, all of which include the K^*(892), K^*_2(1430), K^*(1680), the f_0(980), and the sigma(500). We find that the combined pi^0 pi^0 S-wave contribution to our preferred fit is (28.9 +- 6.3 +- 3.1)% of the total decay rate while D^0 to K^*(892)^0 pi^0 contributes (65.6 +- 5.3 +- 2.5)%. Abstract: We present the first search for the decay $D^+_{s}\to \omega e^{+}\nu$ to test the four-quark content of the $D^+_{s}$ and the $\omega$-$\phi$ mixing model for this decay. We use 586 $\mathrm{pb}^{-1}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 4170 MeV. Abstract: Using 586 $\textrm{pb}^{-1}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data acquired at $\sqrt{s}=4.170$ GeV with the CLEO-c detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we report the first observation of $D_{s}^{*+} \to D_{s}^{+} e^{+} e^{-}$ with a significance of $5.3 \sigma$. The ratio of branching fractions $\calB(D_{s}^{*+} \to D_{s}^{+} e^{+} e^{-}) / \calB(D_{s}^{*+} \to D_{s}^{+} \gamma)$ is measured to be $[ 0.72^{+0.15}_{-0.13} (\textrm{stat}) \pm 0.10 (\textrm{syst})]%$, which is consistent with theoretical expectations.

Abstract: Using 586pb^-1 of e^+e^- collision data at E_CM = 4170MeV, produced at the CESR collider and collected with the CLEO-c detector, we observe the process e^+e^- --> pi^+ pi^- h_c(1P). We measure its cross section to be 15.6+-2.3+-1.9+-3.0pb, where the third error is due to the external uncertainty on the branching fraction of psi(2S) --> pi^0 h_c(1P), which we use for normalization. Abstract: We report on a study of exclusive radiative decays of the Upsilon(1S) resonance into a final state consisting of a photon and two K0s candidates. We find evidence for a signal for Upsilon(1S)->gamma f_2'(1525); f_2'(1525)->K0sK0s, at a rate (4.0+/-1.3+/-0.6)x10^{-5}, consistent with previous observations of Upsilon(1S)->gamma f_2'(1525); f_2'(1525)->K+K-, and isospin. Combining this branching fraction with existing branching fraction measurements of Upsilon(1S)->gamma f_2'(1525) and J/psi->gamma f_2'(1525), we obtain the ratio of branching fractions: B(Upsilon(1S)->gamma f_2'(1525))/B(J/psi->gamma f_2'(1525))=0.09+/-0.02, approximately consistent with expectations based on soft collinear effective theory., Comment: submitted to Brief Reports

Abstract: Using 9.32, 5.88 million Upsilon(2S,3S) decays taken with the CLEO-III detector, we obtain five product branching fractions for the exclusive processes Upsilon(2S) => gamma chi_{b0,1,2}(1P) => gamma gamma Upsilon(1S) and Upsilon(3S) => gamma chi_{b1,2}(1P) => gamma gamma Upsilon(1S). We observe the transition chi_{b0}(1P) => gamma Upsilon(1S) for the first time. Using the known branching fractions for B[Upsilon(2S) => gamma chi_{bJ}(1P)], we extract values for B[chi_{bJ}(1P) => gamma Upsilon(1S)] for J=0, 1, 2. In turn, these values can be used to unfold the Upsilon(3S) product branching fractions to obtain values for B[Upsilon(3S) => gamma chi_{b1,2}(1P) for the first time individually. Abstract: We report the first determination of the relative strong-phase difference between D^0 -> K^0_S,L K^+ K^- and D^0-bar -> K^0_S,L K^+ K^-. In addition, we present updated measurements of the relative strong-phase difference between D^0 -> K^0_S,L pi^+ pi^- and D^0-bar -> K^0_S,L pi^+ pi^-. Both measurements exploit the quantum coherence between a pair of D^0 and D^0-bar mesons produced from psi(3770) decays. The strong-phase differences measured are important for determining the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle gamma/phi_3 in B^- -> K^- D^0-tilde decays, where D^0-tilde is a D^0 or D^0-bar meson decaying to K^0_S h^+ h^- (h=pi,K), in a manner independent of the model assumed to describe the D^0 -> K^0_S h^+ h^- decay. Using our results, the uncertainty in gamma/phi_3 due to the error on the strong-phase difference is expected to be between 1.7 and 3.9 degrees for an analysis using B^- K^- D^0-tilde D^0-tilde -> K^0_S pi^+ pi^- decays, and between 3.2 and 3.9 degrees for an analysis based on B^- -> K^- D^0-tilde, D^0-tilde -> K^0_S K^+ K^- decays. A measurement is also presented of the CP-odd fraction, F_-, of the decay D^0 -> K^0_S K^+ K^- in the region of the phi -> K^+ K^- resonance. Abstract: We have searched for flavor-changing neutral current decays and lepton-number-violating decays of D^+ and D^+_s mesons to final states of the form h^+- e^-+ e^+, where h is either \pi or K. We use the complete samples of CLEO-c open-charm data, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 818 pb^-1 at the center-of-mass energy E_CM = 3.774 GeV containing 2.4 x 10^6 D^+D^- pairs and 602 pb^-1 at E_CM = 4.170 GeV containing 0.6 x 10^6 D^*+-_s D^-+_s pairs. No signal is observed in any channel, and we obtain 90% confidence level upper limits on branching fractions B(D^+ --> \pi^+ e^+ e^-) < 5.9 x 10^-6, B(D^+ --> \pi^- e^+ e^+) < 1.1 x 10^-6, B(D^+ --> K^+ e^+ e^-) < 3.0 x 10^-6, B(D^+ --> K^- e^+ e^+) < 3.5 x 10^-6, B(D^+_s --> \pi^+ e^+ e^-) < 2.2 x 10^-5, B(D^+_s --> \pi^- e^+ e^+) < 1.8 x 10^-5, B(D^+_s --> K^+ e^+ e^-) < 5.2 x 10^-5, and B(D^+_s --> K^- e^+ e^+) < 1.7 x 10^-5., Comment: 9 pages, available through http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS/

Abstract: The decays of psi(2S) into gamma p bar{p}, pi^0 p bar{p} and eta p bar{p} have been studied with the CLEO-c detector using a sample of 24.5 million psi(2S) events obtained from e^+e^- annihilations at sqrt{s} = 3686 MeV. The data show evidence for the excitation of several N^* resonances in p pi^0 and p eta channels in pi^0 p bar{p} and eta p bar{p} decays, and f_2 states in gamma p bar{p} decay. Branching fractions for decays of psi(2S) to gamma p bar{p}, pi^0 p bar{p} and eta p bar{p} have been determined. No evidence for p bar{p} threshold enhancements was found in the reactions psi(2S)-> X p bar{p}, where X = gamma, pi^0, eta. 19. In situ 3D fluorescence microscopy mapping in the Prphp-mCherry mouse line differentiates inner ear afferent populations.

Abstract: The inner ear facilitates hearing and balance sensory encoding through its complex 3D structure and heterogeneity of primary afferent neurons. In the cochlea, spiral ganglion neurons (SGN) directly encode sound via the inner hair cell-Type I SGN circuit and regulate cochlear amplification feedback via the outer hair cell-Type II SGN circuit. Vestibular ganglion neurons (VGN) are divided into calyx afferents (Type I hair cells), dimorphic (both Type I and Type II hair cells), and bouton afferents (Type II hair cells), that map to regions of the cristae and otolith organs to encode features of head position and acceleration. Both Type II SGN and vestibular bouton afferents are marked by the Type III intermediate filament protein Peripherin (Prph). We developed a transgenic mouse model using Prph promotor elements which demonstrated mCherry reporter expression (Prphp-mCherry) in SGN and VGN throughout postnatal development, characterised using CUBIC1/PEGASOS clearing and Lightsheet fluorescence microscopy. We found overlap of the Prphp-mCherry and Prph immunopositive populations in the hook and basal regions of the cochlea, but significant mismatch in mid-apical regions. In the vestibular ganglion, mCherry immunolabel-ling was confined to small diameter afferent somata by adulthood, colocalising with Prph positive bouton afferent fibres, although mismatch in fibre staining suggests a subpopulation has been identified. Using nanopore sequencing, the integration site of the Prphp-mCherry transgene cassette was located within the Grm8 gene encoding metabotropic GluR8, where exon reshuffling was evident. Intriguingly, Grm8 is a marker of Type Ic SGN, which synapse on the modiolar face of the inner hair cells and are particularly vulnerable to noise and aged-related hearing loss. Significant overlap of Type Ic SGN markers and Prphp-mCherry neurons has been quantified, indicating the integration site of the transgenic construct may have influenced transgene expression. Mapping the distribution of type and subtype markers in the cochlea SGN and under-resolved landscape of the VGN in 3D has revealed new protein marker compartmentalization, uncovering broader afferent heterogeneity in the inner ear. 20. The Impact of Noosa National Park on Surrounding Property Values: An Application of the Hedonic Price Method

Abstract: This study deals with the valuation of a National Park in an urban area. The hedonic price method is used to estimate the impact of the headland section of Noosa National Park (NNP) on nearby unimproved land values. Unimproved land values of 641 house blocks surrounding NNP were used in a variety of regressions to provide values for both proximity and view of the park. The study found that a glimpse of NNP generates an increase of 7% in the land value. However, being in close walking distance to NNP has little impact upon the value of land. Properties located south of NNP headland were found to be valued at only 85% of comparable properties to the north. The variables with the greatest impact on price are direct distance to the ocean and a view of the ocean. If properties are closer to another urban park (not a national park), there is a strong negative relationship between price and distance to the park. But properties closest to NNP do not experience this relationship. It is suggested that disamenities of such a well-known park, including parking problems and "unsavory characters" may result in the direct distance to NNP not being a significant explanatory variable in relation to price. This information is useful to local governments with national parks within their borders who want to estimate the value of the park to their area, e.g. in relation to rates.

Abstract: The first measurements of the coherence factor R_{K_S^0K��} and the average strong--phase difference ��^{K_S^0K��} in D^0 \to K_S^0 K^\mp��^\pm decays are reported. These parameters can be used to improve the determination of the unitary triangle angle �� in B^- \rightarrow $\widetilde{D}K^-$ decays, where $\widetilde{D}$ is either a D^0 or a D^0-bar meson decaying to the same final state, and also in studies of charm mixing. The measurements of the coherence factor and strong-phase difference are made using quantum-correlated, fully-reconstructed D^0D^0-bar pairs produced in e^+e^- collisions at the ��(3770) resonance. The measured values are R_{K_S^0K��} = 0.70 \pm 0.08 and ��^{K_S^0K��} = (0.1 \pm 15.7)$^\circ$ for an unrestricted kinematic region and R_{K*K} = 0.94 \pm 0.12 and ��^{K*K} = (-16.6 \pm 18.4)$^\circ$ for a region where the combined K_S^0 ��^\pm invariant mass is within 100 MeV/c^2 of the K^{*}(892)^\pm mass. These results indicate a significant level of coherence in the decay. In addition, isobar models are presented for the two decays, which show the dominance of the K^*(892)^\pm resonance. The branching ratio {B}(D^0 \rightarrow K_S^0K^+��^-)/{B}(D^0 \rightarrow K_S^0K^-��^+) is determined to be 0.592 \pm 0.044 (stat.) \pm 0.018 (syst.), which is more precise than previous measurements., 38 pages. Abstract: Using (9.32, 5.88) million Y(2S; 3S) decays taken with the CLEO III detector, we obtain five product branching fractions for the exclusive processes Y(2S) -> gamma chi(b0,1,2)(1P) -> gamma gamma Y(1S) and Y(3S) -> gamma chi(b1,2)(1P) -> gamma gamma Y(1S). We observe the transition chi(b0)(1P) -> yY(1S) for the first time. Using the known branching fractions for B[Y2S) -> gamma chi(bJ)(1P)], we extract values for B[chi(bJ)(1P) -> gamma Y(1S)] for J = 0, 1, 2. In turn, these values can be used to unfold the Y(3S) product branching fractions to obtain values for B[Y(3S) -> gamma chi(b1,2)(1P)] for the first time individually. Comparison of these with each other and with the branching fraction B[Y(3S) -> gamma chi(b0)] previously measured by CLEO provides tests of relativistic corrections to electric dipole matrix elements.

Abstract: We present the first search for the decay $D^+_{s}\to ��e^{+}��$ to test the four-quark content of the $D^+_{s}$ and the $��$-$��$ mixing model for this decay. We use 586 $\mathrm{pb}^{-1}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 4170 MeV. Abstract: We report on a study of exclusive radiative decays of the Upsilon(1S) resonance into a final state consisting of a photon and two K0s candidates. We find evidence for a signal for Upsilon(1S)->gamma f_2'(1525); f_2'(1525)->K0sK0s, at a rate (4.0+/-1.3+/-0.6)x10^{-5}, consistent with previous observations of Upsilon(1S)->gamma f_2'(1525); f_2'(1525)->K+K-, and isospin. Combining this branching fraction with existing branching fraction measurements of Upsilon(1S)->gamma f_2'(1525) and J/psi->gamma f_2'(1525), we obtain the ratio of branching fractions: B(Upsilon(1S)->gamma f_2'(1525))/B(J/psi->gamma f_2'(1525))=0.09+/-0.02, approximately consistent with expectations based on soft collinear effective theory., submitted to Brief Reports

Abstract: We report the first determination of the relative strong-phase difference between D-0 -> K-S,L(0) K+K- and (D) over bar (0) -> K-S,L(0) K+K-. In addition, we present updated measurements of the relative strong-phase difference between D-0 -> K-S,L(0) pi(+)pi(-) and (D) over bar (0) -> K-S,L(0) pi(+)pi(-). Both measurements exploit the quantum coherence between a pair of D-0 and (D) over bar (0) mesons produced from psi(3770) decays. The strong-phase differences measured are important for determining the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle gamma/phi(3) in B- -> K- (D) over tilde (0) decays, where (D) over tilde (0) is a D-0 or (D) over bar (0) meson decaying to K(S)(0)h(+)h(-) (h = pi, K), in a manner independent of the model assumed to describe the D-0 -> K(S)(0)h(+)h(-) decay. Using our results, the uncertainty in gamma/phi(3) due to the error on the strong-phase difference is expected to be between 1.7 degrees and 3.9 degrees for an analysis using B- -> K- (D) over tilde (0), (D) over tilde (0) -> K-S(0) pi(+)pi(-) decays, and between 3.2 degrees and 3.9 degrees for an analysis based on B- -> K- -> (D) over tilde (0), (D) over tilde (0) -> K-S(0) K+K- decays. A measurement is also presented of the CP-odd fraction, F-, of the decay D-0 -> K-S(0) K+K- in the region of the phi -> K+K- resonance. We find that in a region within 0.01 GeV2/c(4) of the nominal phi mass squared F- > 0.91 at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: We have searched for flavor-changing neutral current decays and lepton-number-violating decays of D+ and D-s(+) mesons to final states of the form h(perpendicular to)e(-/+)e(+), where h is either pi or K. We use the complete samples of CLEO-c open-charm data, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 818 pb(-1) at the center-of-mass energy E-CM = 3.774 GeV containing 2.4 x 10(6) D+D- pairs and 602 pb(-1) at E-CM 4.170 GeV containing 0.6 x 10(6) D-s(*+/-) D-s(-/+) pairs. No signal is observed in any channel, and we obtain 90% confidence level upper limits on branching fractions B(D+ -> pi(+)e(+)e(-)) < 5.9 x 10(-6), B(D+ -> pi(-)e(+)e(-)) < 1.1 x 10(-6), B(D+ -> K(+)e(+)e(-)) < 3.0 x 10(-6), B(D+ -> K(+)e(+)e(-)) < 3.5 x 10(-6), B(D-s(+) -> pi(+)e(+)e(-)) < 2.2 x 10(-5), B(D-s(+) -> pi(+)e(+)e(-)) < 1.8 x 10(-5), B(D-s(+) -> K(+)e(+)e(-)) < 5.2 x 10(-5), and B(D-s(+) -> K(-)e(+)e(+)) < 1.7 x 10(-5).

Abstract: The decays of psi(2S) into gamma p (p) over bar, pi(0)p (p) over bar, and eta p (p) over bar have been studied with the CLEO-c detector using a sample of 24.5 X 10(6) psi(2S) events obtained from e(+)e(-) annihilations at root s = 3686 MeV. The data show evidence for the excitation of several N* resonances in p pi(0) and p eta channels in pi(0)p (p) over bar and eta p (p) over bar decays, and f(2) states in gamma p (p) over bar decay. Branching fractions for decays of c psi(2S) to gamma p (p) over bar, pi(0)p (p) over bar, and eta p (p) over bar have been determined. No evidence for p (p) over bar threshold enhancements was found in the reactions psi(2S) -> Xp (p) over bar where X = gamma, pi(0), eta. We do, however, find confirming evidence for a p (p) over bar threshold enhancement in J/psi -> gamma p (p) over bar as previously reported by BES.

Abstract: We report on a study of exclusive radiative decays of the Gamma(1S) resonance into a final state consisting of a photon and two K-S(0) candidates. We find evidence for a signal for Gamma(1S) -> gamma f(2)(')(1525); f(2)(') f(2)'(1525) -> gamma(KSKS0)-K-0, at a rate Bd(Y1S) -> gamma f(2)(')(1525)) = (4.0 +/- 1.3 +/- 0.6) x 10(-5), consistent with previous observations of Gamma(1S) -> gamma f(2)(')(1525); f(2)(')(1525) -> K+K-, and isospin. Combining this branching fraction with existing branching fraction measurements of Gamma(1S) -> gamma f(2)(')(1525) and J/psi -> gamma f(2)'(1525), we obtain the ratio of branching fractions: B(Gamma(1S) -> gamma f(2)'(1525))/B(J/psi -> gamma f(2)(')(1525)) = 0.09 +/- 0.02, approximately consistent with expectations based on soft-collinear effective theory.

Abstract: The effect of an intramammary infection (IMI) at calving on the milk yield of heifers during their first 200 d in milk (DIM) was estimated by comparing monozygotic twins, where one member had a naturally occurring IMI detected at the first milking after calving and the other twin did not. Data collected weekly over a full lactation for 29 twin pairs were used to estimate the effects of a pericalving Streptococcus uberis IMI on milk yield and composition. Data for 19 twin pairs were used to estimate the effects of pericalving coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) IMI. A heifer with a Strep. uberis IMI produced 200 kg (7%) less milk during the first 200 d of lactation compared with her uninfected twin, with significant differences evident throughout the 200-d period. Similar milk losses were recorded for heifers that developed CM or remained subclinical. An elevated milk SCC for infected heifers was only apparent for the first month (d 2-30), although SCC tended to remain high during the second (d 31-60) and third (d 61-90) months. Milk protein concentrations were greater in the Strep. uberis-infected twin over the 200-d period, whereas fat and lactose concentrations showed little change. An IMI caused by Strep. uberis was associated with a lower milk yield, whereas an IMI by CNS was not, despite CNS-infected twins having a higher SCC than their uninfected twin for the first 30 d of lactation. Abstract: In a restrospective study of 3.128 patients with primary melanoma, 90 were found to have more than one primary lesion, an incidence of 2.9%. Wherever possible, comparisons were made between single and multiple primary lesion patients with reference to age. sex. racial background, skin, hair, eye colouring, distribution and characteristics of the primary melanoma lesions. Patients with one melanoma had a greater risk of developing another and their skin appeared to be more susceptible to sun damage. Patients with multiple abnormal pigmented naevi also had an increased risk of developing a second primary melanoma. Having one primary lesion tended to alert both patient and doctor and resulted in earlier diagnosis of the second lesion. Abstract: We analyze a sample of 3 × 106 quantum-correlated D0 ...0 pairs from 818 pb-1 of e+e- collision data collected with the CLEO-c detector at Ecm=3.77 GeV, to give an updated measurement of cosδ and a first determination of sinδ, where δ is the relative strong phase between doubly Cabibbo-suppressed D0 →K+π- and Cabibbo-favored ... 0 →K+π- decay amplitudes. With no inputs from other experiments, we find cosδ=0.81-0.18-0.05+0.22+0.07, sinδ=-0.01 ± 0.41 ± 0.04, and |δ|=(10-53-0+28+13)°. By including external measurements of mixing parameters, we find alternative values of cosδ=1.15-0.17-0.08+0.19+0.00, sinδ=0.56-0.31-0.20+0.32+0.21, and δ=(18-17+11)°. Abstract: Purulent pericarditis is now rare due to the widespread use of antibiotics. However, it is associated with significant morbidity and mortality, and non-specific symptoms and signs can make diagnosis difficult. We report a patient who presented with left-sided chest pain, mild fever and ST segment elevation on electrocardiography, who required prolonged organ support in the intensive care unit. This lesson highlights the diagnostic difficulties and management challenges that this condition can present.

Abstract: The beauty to up quark coupling constant |V(ub)| can be extracted from B → ρ e+ ν(e) combined with the form factors for D → K* e+ ν(e) and B → V ℓ+ ℓ- and D → ρ e+ ν(e). Using the entire CLEO-c ψ(3770) → DD event sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 818 pb(-1) and approximately 5.4×10(6) DD events, we measure the form factors for the decays D0 → ρ- e+ ν(e) and D+ → ρ0 e+ ν(e) for the first time and the branching fractions with improved precision. A four-dimensional unbinned maximum likelihood fit determines the form factor ratios to be V(0)/A1(0)=1.48±0.15±0.05 and A2(0)/A1(0)=0.83±0.11±0.04. Assuming Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity, the known D meson lifetimes, and our measured branching fractions we obtain the form factor normalizations A1(0), A2(0), and V(0). We also present a measurement of the branching fraction for D+ → ω e+ ν(e) with improved precision.

Abstract: Using 586 pb(-1) of e+ e- collision data at E(c.m.) = 4170 MeV, produced at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring collider and collected with the CLEO-c detector, we observe the process e+ e- → π+ π- h(c)(1P). We measure its cross section to be 15.6±2.3±1.9±3.0 pb, where the third error is due to the external uncertainty on the branching fraction of ψ(2S) → π0 h(c)(1P), which we use for normalization. We also find evidence for e+ e- → ηh(c)(1P) at 4170 MeV at the 3σ level and see hints of a rise in the e+ e- → π+ π- h(c)(1P) cross section at 4260 MeV.

Abstract: The change from a free-for-service system to a system run by managed-care organizations has caused dramatic shifts in where and how health care is delivered. Within the managed-care systems, administrators need to show a good bottom line. Rapid restructuring of the system and the need for profit create many potential consequences (e.g., APNs squeezed out of participation on some provider panels; previously unattractive poor patients are now attractive because they can provide an ongoing revenue base; the use of more unlicensed personnel to provide patient services). Private businesses and the federal government like managed-care health care systems as an answer to the out-of-control escalating costs of health care. Managed care is likely to stay with us for a long while. Because political force comes from money and there is plenty of that in health care insurance corporations, managed care is likely to be with us for a long time. Regulations and control of these managed-care systems will probably be difficult. However, though big business has the money, APNs have the feet, hands and patience to seek further regulation of these huge corporations (e.g., antidiscrimination language to prevent exclusion from provider panels). With the reality of managed care, MDs are no longer in control of the health care system. The AMA's recent attempt to control other providers is tantamount to one ship officer attempting to control another on the Titanic's (i.e., fee-for-service system's) last evening. In a few states, fee-for-service is still predominant, but the majority of states are rapidly moving into megaconglomerate, finance-driven managed care run by business administrators. Things are getting so complex in today's world of corporate takeovers, managed-care megaconglomerates, and power-brokering politics that it is easy to understand why millions of Americans drown themselves in relatively simplistic good-versus-evil entertainment dramas. Huge changes in how the system operates have happened this year while the nation was busy following the Simpson trial. But NPs and other APNs must be very vigilant. We must ensure a place in this new system. Our patients and the nation need us!
