Objectives: White spot lesions are more susceptible to staining agents due to their porous structure. This study examines the impact of white spot lesion treatments on discoloration caused by pediatric supplements. Method and materials: Three treatments (fluoride, casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate [CPP-ACP], resin infiltration), a control, and their respective syrup-based subgroups (iron and black elderberry syrups) were established, each with eight teeth. Artificial white spot lesions were induced, and weekly applications of fluoride varnish, daily applications of CPP-ACP paste, or a single resin infiltration procedure were performed on the white spot lesions within the treatment groups over 4 weeks. Simultaneously, samples were exposed daily to iron or black elderberry syrups. Spectrophotometer measurements were taken at baseline, after demineralization (T0), and after 1 (T1), 2 (T2), and 4 weeks (T4). ΔE00 values were calculated. Statistical analysis was conducted using a three-way mixed-design ANOVA, with the significance level set at P = .05. Results: At T4, ΔE00 values from all groups exceeded the clinical acceptability limit of 1.8. At T2 and T4, the ΔE00 values obtained from the black elderberry syrup subgroups were significantly higher (P < .001). At T4, the highest ΔE00 values were seen in the CPP-ACP groups (P < .001). The lowest ΔE00 values at T2 and T4 were observed in the resin infiltration groups (P < .05). Conclusions: Supplements containing ferrous sulfate and black elderberry extract caused color changes in white spot lesions that exceeded the clinical acceptability limit. Resin infiltration of white spot lesions provides advantages over remineralization treatments, particularly in minimizing discoloration induced by pediatric supplements. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT Objective Methods Results Conclusion To identify factors associated with the prevalence of traumatic dental injuries (TDI) in children at 4 years of age.Participants from the 2015 Pelotas (Brazil) birth cohort were included. Demographic, socioeconomic, behavioral, and environmental data were collected through interviews and physical examinations during cohort follow‐up. Dental examination at 4 years of age revealed the presence of TDI. A theoretical model was constructed using a directed acyclic graph (DAG). A descriptive analysis was performed, followed by Poisson regression models relating TDI to each outcome.Data from 3650 4‐year‐old children were analyzed; the prevalence of dental trauma was 20.2% (95% confidence interval [CI] 18.9%–21.5%). The prevalence of TDI was lower among girls compared with boys, suggesting a protective effect of female sex (relative risk [RR] 0.80 [95% CI: 0.79–0.91]). Increased height for age (RR 1.55 [95% CI: 1.14–2.09]), increased overjet (RR 1.45 [95% CI: 1.2–1.74]), and anterior open bite (RR 1.26 [95% CI: 1.01–1.56]) demonstrated an association with TDI after testing regression models based on DAGs.Male sex, increased height, and increased overjet and open bite were factors predisposing to TDI at 4 years of age. ABSTRACT Background Methods Results Conclusion Within Aotearoa | New Zealand, rates of largely preventable severe caries and dental hospitalisations among children are increasing and inequalities exist. However, little population‐based empirical evidence exists describing this oral health burden among children with neurodevelopmental disabilities (NDDs). This study aimed to estimate and compare the rates of dental hospital admissions in a near‐national population of children aged ≤ 14 years with attention‐deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism, intellectual disability or any NDD after accounting for key confounding variables. Caries status for these children was derived from an oral health screening at 4 years and also examined.The cohort were children who had their B4 School Check (B4SC) national health screening assessment undertaken between 1 January 2011 and 31 December 2018 and followed until 1 January 2020 (the study end date). Linked administrative databases, which include NDD indication and dental hospital records, were utilised. Dental hospital admissions were assessed using unadjusted and adjusted Cox proportional hazard regression models treating NDD as a discrete time‐varying covariate. Caries status at 4 years of age was investigated cross‐sectionally and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve used to assess predictive accuracy.The eligible sample included 433 569 children (48.6% female) with a mean age of 9.3 years at the study end date. Overall, 16 359 (3.8%) children had at least one NDD indication and 38 574 (8.9%) had at least one dental hospitalisation. In adjusted analyses, the hazard ratio of dental hospitalisation admissions was 3.40 (95% CI: 3.22–3.60) for children indicated with any NDD compared to their non‐NDD counterparts. At 4 years of age B4SC screening, 465 (17.6%) children out of 2640 indicated with any NDD had visible caries compared to 61 026 (14.3%) from 427 254 children without NDD indication (prevalence ratio = 1.24 [95% CI: 1.14–1.35]). However, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for this association was 0.52 (95% CI: 0.51–0.52), suggesting negligible predictive capacity.Children with NDDs in Aotearoa, New Zealand suffer from substantial oral health inequities. Targeted preventive strategies and adaptation to primary oral health services are needed to meet the needs of neurodiverse children and redress this substantial inequity. Objectives: The presence of parents during dental treatment in children is a controversial concern in dental practice. This is because of conflicting views and practices regarding the presence of parents. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate parental response to their presence/absence during their child's dental treatment and to determine the factors that would influence their decision. Methods: A cross‐sectional survey questionnaire was administered to United Arab Emirates (UAE) parents. A total of 240 parents participated in the survey, which contained 15 questions that analyzed the participants' demographic details, dental procedures influencing parental separation, and factors influencing their desire to be present during their child's dental treatment. Results: Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and chi‐square tests (p < 0.05). The majority (78%) of the parents chose to stay with their children during dental treatment, with a higher prevalence of female parents. The results showed that more parents opted to be with their children during invasive procedures. Younger parents are more likely to stay with their children during dental treatment. The factors influencing parental presence/absence in the dental treatment room depended on the age and nationality of the parent and the type of dental procedure (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Dental practitioners must provide parents with sufficient opportunities to be present during their children's dental procedures. Background: Traumatic dental injuries in children present unique challenges, requiring evidence‐based and individualized approaches. Accidental falls are a common cause, resulting in a spectrum of clinical presentations. Managing tooth injuries in mixed dentition adds complexity to treatment decisions. Methods: This case report details the conservative management of an 8‐year‐old with a fractured permanent lateral incisor following a fall. The child's physical status was assessed, ruling out abuse and associated neurological issues. A novel pediatric full crown fabricated from a hybrid glass material was chosen for its minimally invasive preparation and aesthetic properties. Results: Procedural details, including crown sizing, contouring, and bonding, are outlined. One‐year follow‐up revealed no discoloration, pain, or adverse effects. The hybrid glass material demonstrated longevity in bonding, maintaining both function and esthetics. The discussion encompasses the choice of crown materials and the advantages of hybrid glass material. Conclusion: The case highlights successful conservative restoration in mixed dentition using a pediatric full crown with a hybrid glass material. Background: First permanent molars (FPM) are highly susceptible to decay before the age of 15. When they are severely affected, the decision between conservation and extraction arises, particularly considering the potential for the second permanent molar (SPM) to replace the FPM. This cohort study aimed to evaluate clinical practices regarding FPM pulp necrosis treatment in children aged eight to twelve in two hospital departments in the Paris region. A second objective was to evaluate the one-year outcomes of the two therapies. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted using computerized billing software to identify patients aged eight to twelve who underwent either extraction or root canal treatment (RCT). Data collected included sex, age, arch involved, number of decayed surfaces, presence of Molar Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH), presence of infection, and treatment type. Results: A total of 66 patients were included, representing 61 extracted teeth and 23 RCT. Three main decision criteria were identified: presence of MIH (p < 0.005), extent of decay (p < 0.05), and SPM Nolla's stage. A total of 48% of the patients were seen at one year. A total of 16 of the 32 extractions and five of the nine RCTs had favorable evolution (p = 1). Conclusions: The question of whether to perform RCT or extraction of necrotic FPM in children aged eight to twelve is difficult to assess. It appears that five criteria need to be considered before the decision: possibility of long-term sealed coronal reconstruction, SPM Nolla's stage, follow-up possibilities, arch concerned, and presence of third permanent molar. Background: COVID‐19 pandemic restrictions necessitated changes in conduct of the interview process for the selection of candidates in paediatric dentistry residency programs. Aims: To examine the experiences and attitudes of paediatric dentistry program directors and residents regarding the virtual interview process during the 2020/2021 application cycle. Design: A survey was sent to 82 directors and 416 postdoctoral members of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry with data collected from individuals interviewed during the 2020/2021 cycle. Results: Response rates for directors and residents were 27% (N = 22/82) and 17% (N = 72/416), respectively. Seventy‐three percent of directors (N = 16) believed that virtual interviews were not an adequate substitute for in‐person interviews and made it difficult to present facilities, observe applicant interactions, and assess personality. Fifty‐nine percent of the directors (N = 13) were not interested in using virtual interviews if restrictions were lifted. Residents reported that virtual interviews were accommodating but were unable to observe interpersonal interactions, assess the location and facilities, and understand the program culture. Sixty‐one percent of residents (N = 44) prefer to interview in‐person. Conclusion: The majority of program directors (73%) felt that virtual interviews could not substitute for in‐person interviews and 59% would not be interested in using virtual interviews in the future. Background: Children with dental caries are treated with stainless steel metal crowns (SSC), but the aesthetics and precision still need to be improved. Currently, both 3D‐printed resin crowns (PRC) and computer‐aided design/computer‐aided manufacture (CAD/CAM) resin crowns (CRC) meet the clinical requirements for crown applications in terms of strength, production time, cost, and aesthetics. Aim: This study replaced SSC with customized resin crowns by 3D printing and CAD/CAM. Design: In this study, PRC, CRC, and SSC were used for incisor and molar restorations, and 60 crowns were made with 10 for each group. The fabrication efficiency, surface characteristics, marginal fit, and stability of the two different crowns were evaluated. Results: PRC and CRC show superior color and surface characteristics, though production times are longer (5.3–12.4 times and 3.3–9.1 times, respectively) than for SSC (p <.05). They, however, can be completed within 80 min. Edge gaps for PRC and CRC are significantly lower (13.0–19.2 times and 13.0–13.7 times) than for SSC (p <.05). All materials exhibit good stability. Background: Clinical photographs are now considered an essential element for accurate and objective dental records. Very little information exists on dental photography in children and the factors that can influence the dentist's decision to take dental photographs. Aim: This study aimed to assess the current use, attitude and confidence of paediatric dentists using clinical dental photography of children worldwide. Design: This was a cross‐sectional questionnaire‐based study distributed online to paediatric dentists around the globe. Results: The survey was completed by 390 dentists. The majority of participants (82.3%, n = 321) took dental photographs of their patients, and over 74% of the participants were confident in taking dental photographs. Sixty‐nine dentists (17.7%) did not take photographs. Seventy‐four per cent (n = 240) of those who take dental photographs and 47.8% (n = 33) of those who do not take dental photographs reported an effect on the child's behaviour. The majority of participants expressed interest in receiving further training. Conclusion: Most paediatric dentists take dental photographs of their patients and value their role in the behavioural management of the child patient. Background: Studying biomarkers in children with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) such as epinephrine, norepinephrine, and dopamine may reveal factors like screen time or sleep loss that affect these biomarkers and predict TMD‐related pain, offering new research opportunities. Aim: To determine the association between stress and catecholamines with myofascial pain and headache related to TMD in children. Design: Sixty‐six 9‐ to 11‐year‐old children assisting at the clinics of Pediatric Dentistry of Universidad CES participated in the study. Myofascial pain and headache attributed to TMD were determined according to the Diagnostic Criteria for TMD (DC/TMD) Axis I. Stress was evaluated with the Perceived Stress Scale—Children (PSS‐C), and a 24‐h urine sample was analyzed using liquid chromatography to assay catecholamines. Single and multiple regression analyses were performed. Results: Children with a mean age of 10.3 years participated in the study. The mean score of stress was 29 ± 4. Perceived stress, dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine were statistically significant predictors of myofascial pain and headache attributed to TMD in the single‐ and multiple variable logistic regression analyses. Aim: The aim of the presented case report was to report a rare complication of Inferior Alveolar Nerve Block (IANB) in a 5‐year‐and‐4‐month‐old child and to discuss the possible complications. Materials and Methods: Five years and four months old Egyptian male child presented in paediatric dentistry practice complaining of pain in the lower right primary molars that kept him awake all night. Examination revealed decayed lower right primary first and second molars and the treatment plan was designed to include a pulpectomy procedure for tooth 85 and a pulpotomy procedure for tooth 84. Administration of 1 mL of arctician 4% with 1:100,000 epinephrine anaesthetic solution using the inferior alveolar nerve block technique was done uneventfully. Then, the dental procedure was done as usual. The next morning, the child presented to the dental practice with a non‐painful change in colour in the lower part of the child's right cheek, with small scanty blisters. Results: The possible causes of such a complication and the proper management are discussed in this article with a confirmation of the superficial skin necrosis as the most possible cause. Conclusion: Although proper awareness of the anatomical structures of the orofacial region along with meticulous administration technique of local anaesthesia is mandatory for the everyday dental practice, the dentist may face possible, sometimes rare complications of local anaesthesia and he should be able to manage them probably. Background: To ensure comprehensive dental treatment under general anesthesia(GA) is a viable option, postoperative complications must be minimized. This study investigates the incidence and determinants of acute psychological complications following comprehensive dental treatment under general anesthesia in uncooperative children. Materials and methods: This study included 71 healthy children aged 5 to 10 years who exhibited uncooperative behavior during dental examinations. All participants received parental consent. Data was collected using a checklist encompassing demographic information, treatment details, physical complications, and psychological complications. The Modified Child Dental Anxiety Scale faces version (MCDASf) questionnaire was administered pre-operatively and five days post-operatively. Results: The first day exhibited the most pronounced physical and psychological complications. While the most physical complications had diminished by the fifth day, the psychological effects remained permanent. Tooth extraction was associated with a statistically significant impact on fear of being left alone(P < 0.001), unspecified fear (P = 0.001), nyctophobia (P = 0.001), and excessive crying(P < 0.001). Conclusion: Psychological complications persisted for a longer period compared to physical complications. The number of extracted teeth under GA had a significant influence on children's fear. Objectives: The aim of the present investigation was to evaluate the possible anxiolytic effect of jasmine aromatherapy in pediatric dental procedures. Materials and Methods: A parallel randomized single-blinded placebo-controlled clinical trial was designed and conducted from February 19 until April 19, 2020, on children aged 7 to 12 years-old requiring class 1 restorative treatment of primary or permanent tooth with infiltration anesthesia. Interventions were defined as 15 minutes of aromatherapy using 2mL of jasmine extract for the intervention group, and with water for the control group. Outcomes were defined as child's anxiety and pain perception, measured by modified child dental anxiety scale (MCDAS), visual analogue scale (VAS) and changes of vital signs. After the patients received interventions based on their groups, their data was collected and analyzed. We used parametric tests and linear regression for outcome comparisons. Results: 56 patients were randomized and allocated in two groups, 28 to each. The groups did not differ significantly regarding age, sex, heart rate and O2 saturation before, during, and after procedures. Based on multivariable regression, the intervention group showed a significantly reduced MCDAS (B (95% CI) =-2.11 (-4.09, -0.13), P=0.04) and VAS (B (95% CI) =-2.30 (-3.50, -1.10), P<0.001) scores. Conclusion: Jasmine aromatherapy showed to be effective in reducing children's anxiety and pain perception during dental procedures and therefore, can be suggested as a cheap and practical complementary method in dental practice. ABSTRACT Objectives Methods Results Conclusions To examine families’ experiences, including motivation and barriers to undergoing tooth autotransplantation (AT), and their perceptions of associated esthetic and functional outcomes.Semi‐structured, in‐depth‐interviews (IDIs) were conducted in person with families who had children that underwent the AT procedure. Interviews were audio recorded and transcribed. Transcripts were coded and thematically analyzed both deductively and inductively. A facilitators and barriers matrix and journey maps were created to draw inferences on patterns arising from main themes.Twenty families selecting AT as a solution for a missing maxillary incisor were recruited and interviewed. Overall, all families interviewed had a positive experience with the AT procedure. Motivating factors for undergoing the AT procedure included wanting an earlier intervention for the missing incisor, wishing to mitigate negative psychosocial effects, and the anticipated positive outcomes that would last into adulthood. Barriers to uptake of the AT procedure included the lack of dental practitioner awareness of AT as a potential solution and a large number of appointments and travel. Families were also initially concerned over potential complications that could arise from their child undergoing this procedure. The cost of the procedure was both a barrier and a facilitator for treatment.The study results demonstrate that the overall AT is favorably considered by the families of growing children for the replacement of maxillary incisors and highlight factors that may act as motivators or barriers to its uptake. The longevity and acceptance of aesthetic dental materials are directly proportional to color stability. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between the use of multivitamins and the color stability of dental restorative materials. A total of 45 discs of nanohybrid composite, 45 of Reinforced Glass Ionomer (RGI), and 45 of Giomer were prepared. Subsequently, the samples were randomly divided into three solution groups (n = 15): Group 1—Sambucol Pediatric Syrup, Group 2—Hidropolivital Baby Drops, and Group 3—artificial saliva, which is preparation for patients with xerostomia. For 28 days, the specimens were immersed in 10 mL of each multivitamin for two minutes every 24 h. Color measurements were repeated on days 7, 14, 21, and 28. Statistical analysis was performed using the Jamovi software version 2.2.5, employing the Shapiro–Wilk test for normality and the Kruskal–Wallis test for non-parametric data. When comparing materials, statistically significant differences (p < 0.001) were observed between RGI and Giomer, and RGI and composite, but not between Giomer and composite (p = 0.716). The highest change was observed in RGI–Hidropolivital ΔE00 = 3.27 (2.38–4.59) and the least in composite–Sambucol ΔE00 = 0.72 (0.30–1.18). Objectives: Recent studies have highlighted the association between problematic screen exposure (PSE) in preschool children and various health issues. This study aims to determine the relationship between PSE and oral/dental health as well as parafunctional oral habits in this population. Methods: Healthy children aged 3 to 6 years who visited the pediatric dentistry outpatient clinic were included in the study. PSE was evaluated using the parent-reported 'Seven-in-Seven-Screen-Exposure Questionnaire'. An intraoral examination was conducted to record the number of decated, missing, and filled teeth, along with scores from the International Caries Detection and Assessment System II (ICDAS II), as well as dental plaque and gingival indices. Results: A total of 210 mother–child pairs were included in the study, comprising 70 pairs with PSE and 140 pairs without PSE. The sociodemographic characteristics, frequency of daily tooth brushing behaviors, use of children's toothpaste, and regular dental examinations were statistically evaluated between the PSE and non-PSE group (p > 0.05). Additionally, there was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of having abnormal oral habits (p > 0.05). In the PSE group, the median scores for gingival and plaque index were significantly higher (p = 0.011 and p = 0.006, respectively). The median number of decayed teeth was significantly higher in the PSE group (p = 0.039). Conclusions: Turkish preschool children with PSE were found to have a significantly higher likelihood of experiencing poor oral health. Consequently, it is essential to conduct oral health examinations for Turkish preschool children exhibiting PSE. Background/Aim: The knowledge of dental students about managing traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) may not be uniform, depending on global location and dental education. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of knowledge of undergraduate and postgraduate students specializing in endodontics and pediatric dentistry at 10 dental schools in 10 countries about the 2020 International Association of Dental Traumatology (IADT) guidelines regarding the management of TDIs. Materials & Methods: A previously published questionnaire was used in the current survey. It was an online survey with 12 questions regarding the management of TDIs and some additional questions regarding sociodemographic and professional profiles of the participants were added. The survey was distributed to final‐year undergraduate students and postgraduate students in pediatric dentistry and endodontics from 10 dental schools. Simple frequency distributions and descriptive statistics were predominantly used to describe the data. Differences in the median percentage scores among the student categories were assessed using the Kruskal–Wallis test followed by Dwass–Steel–Critchlow–Fligner pairwise comparisons. Results: A total of 347 undergraduates, 126 postgraduates in endodontics, and 72 postgraduates in pediatric dentistry from 10 dental schools participated in this survey. The postgraduates had a significantly higher percentage score for correct responses compared with the undergraduates. No significant difference was observed between the endodontic and pediatric dentistry postgraduates. Conclusion: The knowledge possessed by undergraduate and postgraduate students concerning the IADT‐recommended management of TDIs varied across the globe and some aspects were found to be deficient. Introduction: Glass Ionomer Cement (GIC) is widely used as a restorative material, but it still exhibits some limitations that pose significant drawbacks in clinical use. The composition of Hydroxyapatite (HA) mimics the inorganic fraction of mineralised tissues such as bones and teeth. HA possesses osteoconductive and bioactive properties, making it favourable for orthopaedic and dental applications. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the setting time, compressive strength, microleakage and antibacterial properties of nano-HA incorporated GIC (NHa-GIC) at various concentrations with Type-II GIC. Materials and Methods: This in-vitro study was conducted in the Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry at Sri Aurobindo College of Dentistry in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India, for a duration of nine months, from May 2023 to January 2024. The study comprised five study groups as follows: Group-1-Type-II GIC (control), Group-2-NHA-GIC 4%, Group-3-NHA-GIC 8%, Group-4-NHA-GIC 10% and Group-5-NHA-GIC 15%. A total of 50 acrylic moulds containing the test material and Type-II GIC, with 10 in each group (n=10), were prepared to record the setting time, which was tested using a Gillmore needle. The compressive strength was checked using a Universal Testing Machine. Additionally, 50 primary molars were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria and randomly divided into five groups (n=10) to evaluate microleakage. Microleakage was assessed using the dye penetration method under a stereomicroscope. For antibacterial properties, 50 samples (n=10) were taken for each strain, i.e., Strain A: S. mutans and Strain B: L. fermentum and the disk diffusion method was employed. Thus, a total sample size of 250 was used. The preparation of GIC-NHAp was done by adding nano-HA to GIC at selected concentrations by weight/weight percentage (w/w%). The results were analysed using a one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test. Results: A statistically significant difference was observed (p<0.001) between Group-1 (GIC II) and Group-II (4% GICNHAp), III (8% GIC-NHAp), IV (10% GIC-NHAp) and V (15% GIC-NHAp) regarding setting time, compressive strength, microleakage and antibacterial properties. Conclusion: It can be concluded that adding NHAp crystals to GIC enhances its properties, such as compressive strength and antimicrobial efficiency, as the concentration increases. Introduction: Early Childhood Caries (ECC) is a major public health issue that negatively affects children's physical and mental health. Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is a novel material that has the potential to improve dentin hypersensitivity and enhance enamel remineralisation. This alkaline solution is known to be more resistant to acidic environments than hydroxyapatite. Aim: To measure the pH (Potential of Hydrogen) in saliva at three different intervals after the application of 38% SDF in children with ECC. Materials and Methods: This pre-post single-group quasiexperimental study was conducted in the Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry at Rajarajeswari Dental College and Hospital in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India from September 2021 to February 2022. A total of 15 patients with ECC, aged 3-6 years, were selected for the application of 38% SDF. Saliva samples were collected before the application, immediately after the application, and one hour after the application of 38% SDF. pH analysis was then conducted. The data obtained were subjected to statistical analysis. Repeated measures of Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Bonferroni's post-hoc test were used for multiple comparisons of salivary pH levels at different time intervals. Age and gender-wise comparisons of mean salivary pH levels at different time intervals were conducted using an independent Student's t-test. Results: Among the 15 participants included in the study, the average age of the subjects was 4.60±1.06 years. Among the study participants, 9 (60.0%) were males and 6 (40.0%) were females. A comparison of mean salivary pH levels at different time intervals showed that the mean salivary pH levels before the SDF application were 6.45±0.22, immediately after the application were 6.95±0.18, and one hour after the application were 7.30±0.27. In the gender-wise comparison, a higher mean pH was recorded in males than in females. Conclusion: The change in mean pH was found to be statistically significant before and after the application of SDF, as well as at the one-hour time interval, showing an increasing trend. This indicates that the changes in salivary pH that occur after applying 38% SDF are clinically significant and can be used as an effective caries control and preventive strategy. Introduction: With the advent of time, the removal of caries has shifted from hand instruments to rotary instruments. A disadvantage of conventional burs is that they non selectively lead to over-preparation. A new polymer bur can be substituted to eliminate these undesirable effects. Aim: To compare and evaluate the efficacy of smart burs and conventional burs in removing infected dentine while preserving affected dentin in carious lesions in primary teeth. Materials and Methods: This was a double-blinded randomised controlled trial conducted in the Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry at Swargiya Dadasaheb Kalmegh Smruti Dental College and Hospital, Nagpur, Maharashtra, India over a period of three months, from August 2023 to October 2023. A total of 40 children aged 6-12 years were selected and evaluated for caries removal efficacy using visual and tactile criteria, which were further confirmed by dye application and numerically scored. Group 1 included 20 children who underwent caries excavation with smart burs, while Group 2 included 20 children who underwent the procedure with diamond points. Statistical analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics, specifically the Chi-square test. Results: A total of 40 children aged 6-12 years were divided into two groups: Group 1 comprised 11 boys and 9 girls, whereas Group 2 included 10 boys and 10 girls. Of these, 12 cases (60%) showed complete caries removal after the first application of dye, regardless of which burs was used. However, 4 cases (20%) showed some residual caries when using smart burs, while 6 cases (30%) exhibited residual caries with diamond points at the base of the cavity preparation. Additionally, there were 4 cases (20%) with caries present at the base and/or in one wall of the cavity preparation when using smart burs, compared to 2 cases (10%) with conventional burs. Nonetheless, there was no statistically significant difference between the smart burs and the conventional diamond points regarding caries removal. Conclusion: It can be concluded that smart burs are equally effective in removing soft caries compared to conventional methods. Although the results were statistically insignificant, polymer burs were found to be more convenient and can be considered a viable alternative to conventional caries removal techniques. This meta-bibliometric analysis investigates the evolution and trends of bibliometric analyses on oral health research over the past two and a half decades, based on publications in PubMed from 1999 to 2024. The study reveals a notable increase in the volume of bibliometric analyses, with China emerging as the leading contributor, followed by Brazil, India, and Saudi Arabia. The analysis highlights a trend towards international collaboration, enhancing the breadth of research perspectives. Major research themes include endodontics, dental caries, and pediatric dentistry. Despite these advancements, the study identifies gaps, including the need for more inclusive and multilingual databases and bibliometric analysis software that simplifies data integration from multiple databases for more comprehensive analyses. Overall, this analysis presents the current landscape of bibliometric analyses on oral health research and offers the research community meaningful insights that can guide future bibliometric analyses and improve the quality and relevance of oral health research assessments. Background: Some orthodontic devices used in children share similar design principles to appliances used to treat obstructive sleep apnoea in adults. As well as treating malocclusion, orthodontic appliances used in children may therefore also have effects on the upper airway. Objective: A review of the literature to assess the effects of orthodontic treatment on the upper airway dimensions in children assessed on CBCT. Materials and Methods: Following registration of the protocol (PROSPERO CRD42023439056), a systematic electronic search of published studies was performed using several databases (PubMed; Scopus, Web of Science and Science Direct) in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. Inclusion criteria were as follows: age under 18 years, orthodontic treatment with any appliance, a control group who received no treatment or a non‐active alternative treatment and airway measurement using CBCT. RoB‐2 and ROBINS‐I tools were used to assess risk of bias and quality of the evidence. Results: In total, 341 studies were identified following the initial search. Title and abstract screening resulted in 45 studies for further full‐text analysis. On completion of the screening process, a total of 23 studies met the inclusion criteria. Study interventions included functional appliances (10 studies), rapid maxillary expansion (RME) (9 studies), reverse‐pull headgear (1 study) and 4 premolar dental extractions (3 studies). The included studies had moderate to high risk of bias, and the quality of evidence was low. Conclusion: The scientific evidence shows that functional appliances are associated with significant improvements in both upper airway volume and constriction when used in children however, the effects on the nasal cavity are limited. RME was associated with a significant increase in nasal cavity and nasopharyngeal dimensions, but not the upper pharyngeal airway. Neither reverse‐pull headgear nor dental extractions were associated with any change in airway dimensions; however, the evidence is limited. Purpose: The current study aims to evaluate the quality and reliability of silver diamine fluoride videos available on YouTubeTM. Methods: The term 'silver diamine fluoride' was used in a YouTubeTM search. Sixty-nine videos screened and 40 of them were chosen for the study's analysis following the application of the inclusion criteria. The videos' parameters, including the number of views/likes/dislikes/comments, days since the upload, length, interaction index, viewing and like rate were collected. The videos included in the study were evaluated according to total content score, Journal of the American Medical Association Scale (JAMAS), Video Information and Quality Index (VIQI) and Modified Global Quality Score (mGQS). Videos with 0-6 points were considered to have poor content, while those with 7-13 points were determined to have high content, based on the overall content scores. Results: An average total content score of 5,03 ± 2,84 out of 13 was found in the outcomes of the study. 72.5% of the videos were categorized as low content and 27.5% as high content. The length of high-content videos is significantly larger than low-content videos (p < 0.05). VIQI, JAMAS and mGQS values of high content videos are statistically significantly higher than low content videos (p < 0.05). Conclusions: YouTubeTM videos related to silver diamine fluoride in pediatric dentistry were found to be poor in quality and low in content. Myofibroma is a rare benign mesenchymal tumor that frequently affects the pediatric population with a predilection for the head and neck region. About 10% of myofibroma cases, presenting atypical features, can be misinterpreted as low-grade myofibroblastic sarcoma (LGMS), with therapeutic and prognostic impact. Here, we report two pediatric cases of benign myofibroblastic tumors, one of them showing typical characteristics of myofibroma, the other was an atypical myofibroma, which initially mimicked low-grade myofibroblastic sarcoma. Atypical myofibromas, despite its distinctive characteristics, follow a benign course, similar with typical myofibroma. Objective: To describe the association between dental caries and school readiness in 5‐year‐old children taking part in the Born in Bradford (BiB) birth cohort, UK. Methods: The Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP) assesses the school readiness of young children and is strongly predictive of future academic attainment. Children are recorded as 'emerging' (below expected), 'expected', or 'exceeding' in five key learning areas. The Oral Health Survey of 5‐year‐olds (OHS5) is undertaken biennially in England, assessing caries experience at a dentine threshold (d3mft). EYFSP and OHS5 were available for a proportion of children participating in BiB. Odds ratios and confidence intervals for caries experience were established, and odds ratios adjusted for significant sociodemographic variables. Results: EYFSP and OHS5 data were available for 2.5% (n = 346) BiB participants. Nearly half (45.2%) had caries. A measure of socio‐economic status, receiving free school meals, was the only demographic variable strongly related to caries experience (OR: 2.8, 95% CI: 1.6–4.9). After adjustment, children 'emerging' in EYFSP learning areas had 1.6‐ to 2.2‐fold (95% CI: 1.0–3.8) higher odds of experiencing caries. Children 'exceeding' EYFSP learning areas had 2.3‐ to 4‐fold (95% CI: 0.1–0.9) lower odds of caries experience. Conclusion: This is the first study to explore the association between caries experience and school readiness using a holistic assessment tool. The association was found across different learning areas and was comparable to and independent of socio‐economic status. The findings indicate oral health‐related absenteeism is not a causative factor. EYFSP shows potential to enhance the targeting of preventive interventions at a child, class or school level. Objectives: To evaluate the individual and community factors that contribute to dental utilization among young children on Medicaid utilizing the Anderson Model and the Socio‐Ecological Framework. Methods: This observational cross‐sectional study was conducted using baseline data (socio‐demographics, clinical dental need) from a cluster‐randomized hybrid effectiveness‐implementation trial among 1021 child–parent dyads recruited from primary care practices across northeast Ohio. The baseline data were then linked to dental Medicaid claims data (categorized as any dental visit, volume, and type in the past 12 months) and ICD‐10 codes from the child's EHR data (individual‐level) together with Dental Health Provider Shortage Area (HPSA) status and Area Deprivation Index (ADI) which were obtained at the neighbourhood‐level using home address of each dyad (community‐level). Multivariable analyses using generalized estimating equations (GEE) accounted for clustering by practice, and models included individual‐level alone, and individual + community‐level factors to evaluate their effects on dental utilization. Results: Medicaid claims data indicated that among the 1021 children (mean age: 4.3 ± 1.1 years; 54.4% males; 43.8% Black, Non‐Hispanic), a majority of children were seeing the dentist at least once a year by the age of 4 (56.1%). The mean ADI of their neighbourhoods was 109.22 (20.2) and 27.5% lived in a HPSA area. The GEE analyses revealed that individual factors such as older children, parents being married, and continuous Medicaid enrollment were associated with significantly higher dental utilization. Among community factors, being in a HPSA had an OR = 1.53 (CI: 1.03, 2.27) associated with higher dental utilization. Conclusions: Being in a HPSA was associated with higher dental utilization possibly due to dentists or safety net dental clinics in these areas accepting Medicaid‐eligible children. At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was recommended to provide emergency dental care and avoid aerosol-generating procedures (AGPs) when possible. This study aimed to determine how Saudi Arabian pediatric patients utilized emergency dental services at the national level at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and what situations required an AGP. Data was collected from all Ministry of Health dental facilities in Saudi Arabia between March and May 2020. All pediatric dental patients who received emergency dental care during the COVID-19 lockdown were included in this study. The majority of the 1,544 pediatric dental patients who received emergency dental care during this period received treatment for caries (77.9 %). AGPs were predominant in the treatment of urgent dental conditions (51.5 %). About 64 % of cases with pulpal inflammation and 52.4 % with abscesses underwent an AGP. Emergency and urgent dental conditions were the main reason for seeking dental care during the pandemic (75.8 %), while only 24.2 % of cases were considered non-urgent. Despite the recommendations, AGPs were required for some urgent conditions to relieve the associated pain, and this comprised 46.8 % of dental treatment provided. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To analyze the prevalence of hypomineralized second primary molar (HSPM) and its association with socioeconomic characteristics and dental caries in a Brazilian population of preschoolers. Material and methods: 603 preschoolers, enrolled in public preschools in Itajaí (state of Santa Catarina, Brazil), took part in the study. To assess the participants' socio-economic characteristics, an original questionnaire was formulated and sent to the children's parents. The clinical evaluation was carried out by a calibrated examiner using the deft/DMFT index for dental caries and Ghanim et al. (Ghanim et al., Eur Arch Paediatr Dent, 2015) criteria for HSPM. The data were analyzed through Poisson regression, using STATA statistical software, and the association analyses were presented by prevalence ratios (PR). Results: The prevalence of at least one HSPM-affected second molar was 24.5%. The prevalence of HSPM was associated to the city's geographical regions of the Educational hubs (p < 0.001). A significant association was found between dental caries and HSPM (p = 0.003; PR: 1.31; 95% CI 1.09–1.56). Children with HSPM were 31% more likely to experience dental caries than children without HSPM. Geographical regions of educational hubs were also significantly associated with HSPM (p < 0.001). None of the socioeconomic characteristics was associated with HSPM (p > 0.05). Conclusion: HSPM is a common developmental defect of enamel in children in our study. The HSPM distribution was associated with the city's geographic regions. Children with HSPM are more likely to experience dental caries. Socioeconomic characteristics were not associated with HSPM. Purpose: The purpose of the present scoping review is to map the literature reporting on the application of digital workflows and digital technologies in the diagnosis, treatment, or management of dental conditions in paediatric patients. Furthermore, the review focuses on identifying possible knowledge gaps in the area and developing specific recommendations for future investigations. Methods: An electronic search was performed on 3 databases up to July 2023. After the authors independently screened the retrieved articles, they extracted the data and assessed the risk of bias using the JBI (The Joanna Briggs Institute) critical appraisal tools and the Cochrane Risk of Bias 1 tool, depending on the study design assessed. Results: After full-text assessment, 58 studies were identified that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results were divided into two groups according to the study design: 36 were research articles, and 22 were case reports; only the research articles were included in the qualitative synthesis. The most common topic was Scanners/3 d digital model analysis (11 articles), followed by Digital Imaging (8 articles). Digital applications were also a popular topic, and tele-dentistry and artificial intelligence were also present in the included studies. Conclusion: Studies investigating the use of digital workflows and digital technologies in the diagnosis, treatment or management of dental conditions in paediatric dentistry are lacking. In general, future investigations should be based on higher quality studies; furthermore, the lack of studies on the clinical validation of digitally fabricated orthodontic devices and restorations in paediatric patients provides insights for future research. Purpose: Little is known about the knowledge of paediatric dentists on bruxism in children. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to assess the knowledge of paediatric dentists on the concept, associated factors of bruxism and management of sleep bruxism (SB) in children′. Methods: An electronic questionnaire was sent to paediatric dentists in the state of Goiás, Brazil. Information was collected on (1) characteristics of the participants; (2) the concept of bruxism; (3) diagnosis; (4) associated factors; (5) strategies for the management of SB; and (6) updated knowledge on bruxism in children. The data were analysed descriptively. Results: Fifty-seven paediatric dentists participated (10.7% of the total number of professionals). A high level of agreement was found with statements on the concepts of SB (94.7%) and awake bruxism (96.5%). The main strategy for the diagnosis was the combination of a parental report and a clinical examination (79.0%). Most participants indicated that bruxism is associated with anxiety/stress (96.5%), screen use (93%), airway obstruction (91.2%), and sleep apnoea (91.2%). In suspected cases of bruxism, the dentists would send the child for assessment by other health care providers (87.7%). The management options frequently indicated were the use of an occlusal splint, aromatherapy, and homeopathy. More than 70% of them considered themselves to be updated on the issue and sought information through scientific articles and discussions with colleagues. Conclusion: Paediatric dentists have knowledge on the concept of bruxism and associated factors. However, further information is needed on the management of this condition in children. Aim: The study aimed to compare the depth of cure, hardness, surface roughness, and wear resistance of four restorative materials used in pediatric dentistry: FUJI IX GP FAST, RivaSilver, SDR flow+, and Vertise Flow. Materials and Methods: The depth of cure was measured per ISO 4049 standards using a digital caliper, with 15 samples of each material. Hardness was evaluated using a Vickers indenter under a 10 N load for 20 s. Surface roughness was assessed before and after acid exposure using an optical profilometer according to ISO 4288. Brushing wear resistance was analyzed by subjecting samples to 20 and 60 min of brushing, followed by roughness measurements. Statistical analysis was performed using independent sample t-tests to determine the significance of differences between the materials, with p-values < 0.05 considered significant. Results: SDR flow+ exhibited the highest depth of cure with an average of 3.5 mm (±0.2 mm), significantly higher than Vertise Flow at 2.8 mm (±0.3 mm) (p < 0.001). Hardness testing revealed SDR flow+ had the highest average hardness (85 HV ± 4 HV), while Vertise Flow had the lowest (72 HV ± 5 HV) (p < 0.001). Surface roughness increased significantly after acid exposure for RivaSilver (from 1.2 μm ± 0.12 μm to 1.6 μm ± 0.15 μm, p = 0.007) and for SDR flow+ (from 0.85 μm ± 0.08 μm to 1.3 μm ± 0.14 μm, p = 0.001). Brushing wear resistance was highest in RivaSilver (Ra increase from 1.2 μm to 1.4 μm ± 0.11 μm) and lowest in FUJI IX GP FAST (Ra increase from 1.5 μm to 1.9 μm ± 0.15 μm, p < 0.001). Conclusions: The study demonstrates significant differences in performance among the tested materials. SDR flow+ showed a superior depth of cure and hardness, making it suitable for high-stress applications. However, all materials displayed increased surface roughness following acid exposure and brushing, with FUJI IX GP FAST showing the highest wear. These findings highlight the need to select restorative materials based on the specific clinical demands of pediatric patients, considering both their mechanical properties and resistance to wear and acid. Background: Caries experience in Argentine children is quite high and no national data are present. Aim: This cross-sectional observational survey aimed to assess the oral health status of schoolchildren in Buenos Aires (CABA) using CTNI and to evaluate the ecological association between health inequalities and caries prevalence. Design: Data were collected, via a clustered procedure, during the 2016–2018 school years. Children were examined at school to determine dental status according to the CTNI performed under standardized conditions, using light, dental mirrors, WHO probes and magnification (2.5×). Secondary sources were used to acquire socio-demographic and epidemiological data. A hierarchical cluster analysis was carried out with the municipalities of the CABA as the dependent variable and the socio-demographic factors. Results: The study population consisted of 62,904 schoolchildren, 43,571 of whom were enrolled into the study. Total caries prevalence was 67.78% while severe caries prevalence was 28.29%, which was statistically associated with the year of the survey (p < 0.01). Four territorial conglomerates from a socio-epidemiological standpoint outline homogeneous areas of social risk; cluster 1 had the highest social risk. The prevalence of severe caries (CTNI 7–14) was highest in cluster 1 (44.7–53.2% of the population). Background/Objectives: Pain associated with temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) is the main non-odontogenic cause of orofacial pain among youth. Pediatric dentists are often the first healthcare practitioners to perform a comprehensive oral examination in children, which should include evaluation of the temporomandibular joint, masticatory muscles, and surrounding structures for signs and/or symptoms of TMD. This study assessed pediatric dentists' practice patterns in the screening, diagnosis, and management of TMD. Methods: A 19-item online survey was used to assess pediatric dentists' clinical practice patterns and perceived knowledge and comfort levels in the screening, diagnosis, and management of TMD. The survey was distributed in July 2024, with a one-month window open for the study. Confidence levels and perceived knowledge were compared according to years from graduation and frequency of TMD screening assessment with ANOVA or independent t-test, as appropriate. Open-ended items were analyzed thematically. Results: A total of 206 pediatric dentists and pediatric dentistry residents participated in this study. A share of 72.8% of respondents reported that up to 25% of their patients per week present with signs and symptoms of TMD. About one-fifth of pediatric dental providers never complete a screening history for TMD (22.1%) or a clinical assessment of TMD-related structures (21.6%). There was overall low self-perceived knowledge and confidence among pediatric dentists regarding the diagnosis, screening, and management of TMD in children and adolescents, regardless of the number of years from graduation. Respondents who reported seeing up to 50% of TMD patients reported significantly more knowledge and confidence in diagnosing pediatric TMD than those who encountered fewer TMD patients. An overwhelming majority (81.6%) indicated a need for continuing education courses and training focused on the management of TMD in pediatric patients. Conclusions: Providers reported low confidence and self-perceived knowledge about TMD in pediatric populations, a high rate of referral of patients with TMD, and a particular interest for professional development opportunities focused on management of TMD. Background: The prevalence of dental caries presents a global public challenge, particularly in children. Traditional caries risk assessment tools like Cariogram are effective but often complex and resource intensive. The aim of the present study was to introduce, for the first time, a newly designed caries risk assessment (CRA) tool named Index of Caries Risk (ICR) and to evaluate its efficacy for pediatric patients. Methods: This observational study was conducted at the University Hospital of Siena (Italy), involving 55 children aged 6 to 12 years. Participants were assessed using both the newly developed ICR and the well-known Cariogram tool. The data were collected by two calibrated operators. The ICR was compared with the Cariogram tool, and a descriptive analysis and a Pearson correlation coefficient were performed. Results: Results indicated a strong positive correlation (R = 0.88, p < 0.01) between the two methods, with ICR simplifying the assessment process while maintaining efficacy. Conclusions: This study highlights the ICR's potential to provide a practical, cost-effective alternative for routine caries risk assessment in pediatric dentistry. Despite its limitations, this research marks a preliminary investigation of a promising new CRA tool. Further research should focus on validating the ICR in the larger and more diverse pediatric population, as well as exploring its long-term effectiveness and its application in different clinical settings. The creation of computer systems that are able to carry out activities that ordinarily call for human intelligence is known as artificial intelligence, or AI. Aspects of dentistry, especially pediatric dentistry have embraced artificial intelligence (AI) and its subsets, machine learning and deep learning. Nevertheless, the current use of AI in pediatric dentistry is not well documented or analyzed. The purpose of this systematic study was to assess AI's efficacy as a diagnostic instrument in pediatric dentistry. Supplies and Procedures: A comprehensive search of electronic databases from 2011 to 2021, including PubMed, Google Scholar and the Cochrane Library, was used to find the literature for this work. The following Boolean operators and keywords were applied: AI and artificial neural networks in pediatric dentistry AND machine learning AND pediatric dentistry, AND convolutional neural networks AND pediatric dentistry. Following the application of suitable inclusion and exclusion criteria, thirteen papers were chosen, thoroughly examined and methodically examined in order to address a particular research issue. Based on a review of 13 articles, artificial intelligence (AI) was found to be helpful in the following areas: dental diagnosis and classification; cephalometric landmark identification; early childhood caries pattern identification; chronological age assessment in children; facial attractiveness assessment in cleft patients; dental plaque detection and oral health education. In conclusion, the chosen articles show that artificial intelligence (AI) is a useful diagnostic tool that may help with a number of pediatric dentistry-related issues. Background: Child dental anxiety is a prevalent issue in the field of pediatric dentistry. At present, several non-pharmacological interventions are employed to mitigate anxiety during dental treatments for children. The objective of this study is to assess the effectiveness of diverse non-pharmacological interventions in reducing dental anxiety, as well as enhancing heart rate during pediatric dental treatments. To achieve this, we conducted a systematic review and a network meta-analysis (NMA) to compare the efficacy of various outcome indicators. Methods: A thorough search was conducted in the databases of PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Scopus, APA PsycInfo, CINAHL, and AMED to identify all eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs) from the beginning of the databases up to August 1, 2024. The quality assessment was carried out using the Cochrane Collaboration's bias risk tool. The two outcome measures under consideration were dental anxiety and heart rate. Network graphs, league tables and SUCRA were constructed using R 4.2.3 software and Stata 16 software. This study is registered in PROSPERO under the registration number CRD42023467610. Results: The study examined 12 different non-pharmacological approaches, drawing from a pool of 61 research studies involving 6,113 participants aged 4 to 16 years. The results of the network meta-analysis revealed that music (SUCRAs: 93.60%) proved to be the most effective measure in mitigating dental anxiety, followed by aromatherapy (SUCRAs: 78.58%) and game (SUCRAs: 70.99%). Moreover, hypnosis (SUCRAs: 98.80%), music (SUCRAs: 79.58%), and relaxation (SUCRAs: 72.41%) were identified as the top three interventions for decreasing heart rate. Conclusion: In this NMA, when contemplating dental anxiety outcomes, music is recommended as a priority. For heart rate outcomes, hypnosis may be a preferred measure. However, owing to the limited number of articles, the conclusion of this study still requires additional confirmation or correction through more high-quality primary studies in the future. Background: Pulpotomy is a crucial method to preserve primary teeth until natural exfoliation. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and radiographic outcomes of pulpotomy with iRoot BP Plus in primary molars and to explore the association between hemostasis time and these outcomes. Methods: Primary molars that underwent iRoot BP Plus pulpotomy and were followed for at least 12 months were selected for this study. Clinical and radiographic data were collected, and the success rate was analyzed in relation to factors such as hemostasis time, tooth type, and arch type. The tests of significance used were the chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, or Kruskal-Wallis test. Statistical significance was set at P < 0.05. Results: A total of 183 teeth in 106 patients were included in the analysis. The follow-up period fell into a range of 1–3 years, with a mean of 1.6 years. The clinical and radiographic success rates were 96.7% and 92.9%, respectively. The earliest time to observe the radiographic failures was half a year after the treatment, and the latest time was two years after the treatment. Among all the teeth, 130 were recorded with hemostasis time before the application of iRoot BP Plus. Compared to teeth with a hemostasis time of 5 min or less, teeth with a hemostasis time exceeding 5 min showed no significant differences in clinical and radiographic success (P = 1.000 and 0.879). Additionally, neither arch nor teeth type showed a relationship with the pulpotomy success rate (P > 0.05). Conclusions: Pulpotomy using iRoot BP Plus in primary molars achieved favorable results. The hemostasis time may not significantly impact the outcomes of pulpotomy using iRoot BP Plus in primary molars. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The correlation between the intake of certain nutrients and the development of oral pathologies has been demonstrated by several studies. The objective of this epidemiological investigation was to evaluate parents' knowledge and awareness of children's nutrition starting from the early stages of childhood. Methods: A questionnaire with 35 questions was handed over to 120 parents of infants aged 4 to 24 months. Among these, 20 questionnaires were excluded because they were incomplete; hence, the final sample analyzed consisted of 100 questionnaires. The outcome of this study revealed that the parents are well aware of many common topics, but their knowledge regarding specific prevention measures, i.e., the use of systemic fluoride as per the international guidelines, needs proper attention. Results: and Conclusions: After analyzing all the collected data, it is possible to conclude that prevention is the best investment to avoid the onset of the carious pathology, which can be possible through parental education, for example, by raising awareness among expectant mothers, through different actions in the territory. Background: The goal is to analyze the need for reinterventions under deep sedation to treat oral pathologies in a population of children with special health care needs (SHCNs) and healthy children who followed a prevention program and to study the influence of parental motivation and child collaboration on the need for reinterventions under deep sedation. Methods: A retrospective study was carried out in a private clinic in Cartagena (Murcia, Spain), with patients treated under deep sedation from 2006 to 2018, both years included, following the Strobe statement. Results: In this study with 230 children who were treated under deep sedation, 23.92% underwent two or more sedations. The mean time elapsed between the first and the second sedations was 21.64 ± 15.87 months, and the main cause for reinterventions was the occurrence of new pathologies. Significantly more pulp treatments were performed in the first sedation than in the second (p = 0.013) and in the third (p = 0.007). Healthy children required fewer reinterventions under deep sedation than children with special needs (6.42% vs. 39.67%). Similarly, patients who followed the preventive program and required some type of dental treatment were reoperated fewer times than those who did not follow the preventive program (35.8 vs. 50%); than "cooperative" children as opposed to "non-cooperative" (12.12% vs. 60.93%) and than patients with "motivated" parents as opposed to those with "non-motivated" parents (20.83% vs. 46.34%). A total of 50% of the children who participated in the preventive program became "cooperative", and 100% were able to receive some treatment in the dental chair. Conclusions: Prevention programs, including motivational interviewing, are essential to improve children's behavior in the dental chair and reduce the need for reinterventions under general anesthesia or deep sedation. Although patients with special needs do require more sedation during their lifetime due to their inability to cooperate, these programs are necessary for the maintenance of oral health status and for the early diagnosis of caries lesions. Pediatric dentists should implement a quarterly preventive program because it improves patient collaboration. It is essential to achieve the motivation of parents in the oral care of their children. Prosthodontic treatment of developmental age patients presents a significant challenge to the dentist. The growth and development of the stomatognathic system must be considered in treatment planning. Temporary prosthetic restorations must be regularly inspected and recemented, and final prosthetic restoration should not be delivered until the growth of the body is complete. In addition, due to the complex nature of morphological and functional disorders during the developmental period, simultaneous prosthetic and orthodontic treatment may be required. The case presented in this article is a 16-year-old boy with severe tooth destruction caused by untreated caries disease and poor oral hygiene. The patient required conservative, endodontic, and surgical treatment to restore the occlusion and aesthetics to allow the proper development of the masticatory organ. This article also presents the treatment case of a young patient with damaged crowns in the upper arch, which were restored with standard root–crown posts and cores and temporary 3D-printed composite crowns. Aim: To evaluate the association between the frequency and severity of dental fluorosis and Molar Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) in 8-12-year-old schoolchildren living in an area with a high concentration of fluoride in the drinking water. Methods: The present cross‑sectional study was conducted on Mexican children (n = 573) selected from one community presenting a drinking water fluoride concentration of 1.39 ppm/F. The prevalence of dental fluorosis was ascertained using the Thylstrup and Fejerskov Index (TFI). The presence and severity of MIH was evaluated using the European Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (EAPD) criteria. A multinomial regression model was used to estimate the odds ratio (OR) and the 95% confidence intervals (CI), using the severity of MIH as the result. Results: The prevalence of MIH was 37.7% and, by severity, was 16.1% mild, 14.3% moderate, and 7.3% severe. The prevalence of dental fluorosis in permanent dentition was 70.9% (TFI ≥1) and, by severity, was 29.2% (TFI = 0), 45.6% (TFI 1–3) and 25.3% (TFI ≥4), while 54.5% of subjects were found to have poor oral hygiene. Schoolchildren with fluorosis (TFI ≥4) were 49% less likely [OR = 0.51; p = 0.025] to present mild MIH than children with fluorosis (TFI <4). Similarly, children with fluorosis (TFI ≥4) were 53% [OR = 0.47; p = 0.019] and 62% [OR = 0.38; p = 0.036] less likely to present moderate and severe MIH than children with fluorosis (TFI <4). Conclusion: An inverse relationship between the presence of fluorosis and MIH was found. The results obtained by the present study may contribute to both the early identification of disorders affecting the enamel and the creation and implementation of long-term oral health prevention, promotion, and intervention programs in the affected population. Background: The use of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) for dentomaxillofacial diagnostics in pediatric dentistry is expanding and concerns have been raised about the radiation risks associated with this imaging modality, especially for children. Dentomaxillofacial paediatric imaging: an investigation towards low-dose radiation induced risks (DIMITRA) is a multidisciplinary project focused on optimizing CBCT exposure for children and adolescents. This study aims to clarify the indications behind CBCT scans in children aligned with DIMITRA's recommendations. Methods: For each CBCT examination, data were collected on patient age at the time of the CBCT examination, gender, reason for request, referring department, CBCT-requested region, and the field of view (FOV) dimension of imaging. The CBCT indications were categorized under six headings according to an adaptation of the DIMITRA project recommendations: impacted teeth, dentoalveolar trauma, orofacial clefts, dental anomalies, bone pathology, syndromes. Indications not categorized in DIMITRA were recorded below the heading "other". Results: The most common indication was the "other" category (34.8%), which included implant, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, orofacial anomalies, foreign object and root canal morphology. The least common indication was "orofacial cleft" (1.9%) and no requests were made for cases related to syndromes. Detection of supernumerary tooth in dental anomalies (68.6%) was the most common CBCT indication, while dentigerous cysts (37.6%) were among the most common CBCT indication in bone pathologies and orofacial anomalies (68.1%) in the other category. The most common size was External Center (15 × 15 cm) (27%) and the least common size was Both Arches/small (8 × 8 cm) (0.4%) when the CBCT FOV was analysed. Conclusions: Although the option of a smaller FOV size was available, the larger FOV size that included the both jaws were most frequently used. Purpose: Children's fear of the injection of local anesthetic agents affects their cooperation in pediatric dentistry. Different techniques are available to decrease the injection pain, including the use of precooling agents or vibrators. The present study investigated the effectiveness of Buzzy (Buzzy MMJ Labs, Atlanta, GA, USA). This device transfers cold and external vibration to the injection site during the inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) injection. Materials and Methods: The present self‐control, randomized, and double‐blind clinical trial evaluated 30 children aged 6–12, who had bilateral mandibular permanent or primary carious molar teeth. On one side, the BUZZY was applied before and during the IANB injection, and the other side was considered as control. On both sides, a topical anesthetic gel was applied before injection. The pain severity and children's anxiety were determined using Wong–Baker, face, leg, activity, cry, consolability (FLACC) scales, and the heart rate. Results: The mean age of the participants was 7.18 ± 1.5 years, with 12 girls and 18 boys. The Wong–Baker scale and FLACC scale did not show any statistically significant difference between BUZZY and control (p value = 0.9 and 0.15, respectively). In addition, BUZZY tool did not significantly decrease pain and anxiety during injection, assessed through the heart rate difference (p = 0.38). Conclusion: Under the limitations of the present study, a combination of precooling and vibration using the BUZZY device did not decrease pain and anxiety in children during the IANB injection. Background: The main task of dental schools is to prepare professional dentists with a high social responsibility. This study provided some practical suggestions from experts regarding desirable clinical settings, in order to establish an infrastructure for practical studies in Endodontics, Periodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Restorative Dentistry, Pediatric Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine, Prosthodontics, Oral Health, and Social Dentistry. Methods: This research was conducted using a modified Delphi technique in two rounds. The first round involved qualitative content analysis. Participants in interviews were selected purposeful and maximum diversity across the country. To determine the validity and reliability of the data, the four axes proposed by Lichon and Guba were utilized. The second round involved a researcher-made questionnaire, which consisted of 55 questions. This questionnaire was distributed to all dental schools across the country. The validity of the questionnaire were evaluated and by experts and then reviewed. The reliability of the tool was determined to be 0.96 using the alpha coefficient method. Results: The final codes from the interviews of the first round were divided into two categories: settings and educational programs. The final results of research were placed into 2 section: educational settings and instructors, and educational infrastructures. 70% participants agreed to use the college's clinical morning sessions. More than 80% agreed to start up a main clinic with the proposed structure and professors. The use of the hospitalization area also had an agreement of more than 80%. Additionally, community areas such as health service centers, welfare centers, special patient centers, factories, schools, etc. obtained an agreement of over 70%. Conclusions: The results of this study are presented in the form of suggestions for improving the general dentistry program in relation to educational setting, educators, and educational infrastructures. The common agreement among participants regarding educational settings and their diversity, educational programs, and desired instructors reviewed in the research shows the necessity of reviewing and changing their educational programs in Endodontics, Periodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Restorative Dentistry, Pediatric Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine, Prosthodontics, Oral Health, and Social Dentistry.
