The fast fashion model is one where the fashion industry produces pieces of clothing in keeping with the latest trends, with low storage and high turnover, making the marketing of the products quick and giving consumers new clothes at affordable prices while increasing the amount of possible produced textile residues from being reused. This article examines the concept of fast fashion and its impact on climate change through an observational analytic comparative study of Portugal and Croatia. Using this type of study, the investigator samples a source population cross-sectionally and then retrospectively assesses the histories of exposures and outcomes of the subjects over a specified time period. The target populations of this study are that of Portugal and Croatia. A questionnaire was conducted, and additional data were collected from the analysis of waste reports and from Eurostat. The results were evaluated using the IBM SPSS Statistics program through descriptive statistics and the Chi-Square independence test. Results show that Portugal has a larger volume of clothing purchases as compared to Croatia, while at the same time Portugal produces more textile waste so the impact on the environment is higher. One of the main reasons associated with the higher production of textile waste is related to the increase of fast fashion. It is therefore important to encourage a circular economy, to stress the importance of stimulating the recycling of textile materials and emphasise the need for increasing the collection of clothing, as well as to invest in recycling technologies. A new model for the textile sector is necessary, one in which clothing, fabrics, and fibres re-enter the economy after use and never end up as waste through the creation of a closed system., Model „brze mode“ u modnoj industriji podrazumijeva proizvodnju trendovskih odjevnih predmeta koji imaju kratko vrijeme skladištenja i oglašavanja te su dostupni kupcima po povoljnim cijenama. Međutim, takav način proizvodnje potencijalno povećava količinu tekstilnog otpada. U ovom radu istražujemo koncept „brze mode“ i njen utjecaj na klimatske promjene usporedbom između Portugala i Hrvatske. Istraživanje je istodobno opisno i analitičko. Primjeri dolaze iz presjeka populacija ovih dviju zemalja, nakon čega se retrospektivno analizira povijest predmeta istraživanja kroz izloženost ovom fenomenu i posljedice te izloženosti tijekom određenog vremenskog razdoblja. Podatke smo prikupili pomoću upitnika te analizom izvještaja o otpadu i podataka iz EuroStata. Rezultate smo analizirali pomoću programa IBM SPSS koristeći deskriptivnu statistiku i hi-kvadrat test. Rezultati su pokazali da se u Portugalu kupuju veće količine odjevnih predmeta u odnosu na Hrvatsku te da Portugal proizvodi više tekstilnog otpada pa je time veći i njegov učinak na okoliš. „Brza moda“ je jedan od glavnih razloga za povećanje količine tekstilnog otpada. Upozoravamo na važnost poticanja kružne ekonomije, stimuliranja reciklaže tekstilnih materijala, povećanjem sakupljanja tekstila i ulaganja u reciklažne tehnologije. Diese Produktionsweise verursacht jedoch möglicherweise eine große Menge des Textilabfalls. In dieser Arbeit erforschen wir das Konzept „der schnellen Mode“ und seinen Einfluß auf den Klimawandel auf Grund eines Vergleichs zwischen Portugal und Kroatien. Die Forschung ist zur gleichen Zeit deskriptiv und analytisch. Die Beispiele stammen aus dem Schnitt der Bevölkerung dieser zwei Länder, danach analysieren wir rückblickend die Geschichte des Forschungsgegenstands durch die Ausgesetztheit diesem Phänomen, sowie die Folgen dieser Ausgesetztheit im Laufe einer bestimmten Zeit. Die Angaben haben wir mit Hilfe von Fragebogen und durch die Analyse der Berichte über Abfälle und Angaben von EuroStat gesammelt. Die Resultate haben wir mit Hilfe des IBM SPSS-Programms unter Anwendung der deskriptiven Statistik und des Chi-Quadrat-Tests analysiert. Die Resultate haben gezeigt, dass man in Portugal mehr Kleidungsstücke als in Kroatien kauft, und dass Portugal mehr Textilabfall produziert, somit ist seine Auswirkung auf die Umwelt größer. „Schnelle Mode“ ist einer der Hauptgründe für die Erhöhung der Menge des Textilabfalls. Wir weisen auf die Wichtigkeit der Unterstützung der Kreiswirtschaft hin, auf Förderung der Wiederverwertung von Textilstoffen, indem Textilien gesammelt werden und man in Wiedeverwetungstechnologie investiert. Am wichtigsten ist die Schaffung eines neuen Modells des geschlossenen Wirtschaftssystems für die Textilbranche, in dem man Kleidung und Materialien wieder verwenden würde und sie nicht auf dem Abfall landeten.

A acumulação de fenóis voláteis em vinhos, principalmente nos de elevada qualidade, tem causado grande preocupação na enologia moderna, sendo considerado, nos dias de hoje, um ponto-chave no controlo da sua qualidade. Os etilfenóis (4-etilfenol e 4-etilguaiacol) podem ser produzidos nos vinhos na sequência de atividade microbiana dando origem a odores e sabores indesejáveis geralmente descritos como “couro”, “suor a cavalo”, “animal” e “medicinal”. Os principais microrganismos responsáveis pela produção destes compostos são estirpes de leveduras do género Brettanomyces/Dekkera, mais concretamente Brettanomyces/Dekkera bruxellensis, uma grande ameaça na indústria vinícola. Este trabalho teve como objetivo global a quantificação de leveduras do género Brettanomyces/Dekkera, a deteção e quantificação dos compostos 4-etilfenol e 4-etilguaiacol por cromatografia gasosa e a correlação destes compostos com a presença destas leveduras no vinho. Em paralelo, avaliaram-se os compostos fenólicos e flavonoides totais, bem como, as propriedades antioxidantes de dezoito amostras de vinho tinto da Região de Trás-os-Montes e da Região do Alto Douro. Na quantificação das leveduras do género Brettanomyces/Dekkera constatou-se que o número de unidades formadoras de colónias variou entre 260 a 440 UFC.mL-1. Em doze amostras de vinho, não se detetaram quaisquer leveduras pertencentes a este género. Verificou-se que as amostras que apresentaram leveduras do género Brettanomyces/Dekkera, também exibiram elevadas concentrações de fenóis voláteis, níveis estes acima dos limites de referência, valores que oscilaram entre 91,45 ± 13,53 μg.L-1 e 351,90 ± 2,43 μg.L-1 para o composto 4-Etilguaiacol, e entre 469,95 ± 3,90 μg.L-1 e 2847,51 ± 87,20 μg.L-1 para o 4-Etilfenol. Estes resultados revelaram que a presença deste tipo de leveduras afeta diretamente a produção destes metabolitos. Os compostos fenólicos totais foram determinados pelo método de Folin-Ciocalteu, utilizando como padrão o ácido gálico. Os resultados obtidos variaram de 2,08 mg.mL-1 a 4,22 mg.mL-1. O doseamento de flavonoides totais teve como base um método espetrofotométrico usando o reagente cloreto de alumínio e como padrão, a quercetina. Os valores obtidos oscilaram entre 0,06 e 0,17 mg.mL-1. Relativamente aos compostos fenólicos, verificou-se que o teor foi influenciado pelo número de leveduras do género Brettanomyces/Dekkera e pela região produtora do vinho, ao contrário que se constatou para o conteúdo de flavonoides totais. A atividade antioxidante foi avaliada pelo método do Poder Redutor e pelo efeito bloqueador de radicais livres de DPPH. Os resultados obtidos pelo método de DPPH evidenciaram valores de EC50 que oscilaram entre 7,78 ± 0,24 mL.L-1 e 13,89 ± 0,05 mL.L-1. Pelo método do Poder Redutor obtiveram-se valores mais elevados de EC50, apresentando um valor mínimo de 14,62 ± 0,09 mL.L-1 e um valor máximo de 30,71 ± 0,24 mL.L-1. A atividade antioxidante foi influenciada quer pela região produtora do vinho, quer pela quantidade de leveduras Brettanomyces/Dekkera presente. Os vinhos provenientes da região do Alto Douro foram os que apresentaram maior capacidade antioxidante, com menores valores de EC50. Os resultados obtidos sugerem que a produção de fenóis voláteis em vinhos é proporcional ao tamanho da população de Brettanomyces/Dekkera, evidenciando que Brettanomyces/Dekkera pode ser um dos fatores que mais afeta as propriedades sensoriais do vinho, por isso, o controlo do crescimento de Brettanomyces é um dos maiores desafios microbiológicos na produção moderna de vinhos, já que o seu crescimento indesejado pode provocar graves perdas económicas. The accumulation of volatile phenols in wine, especially in those who have a high quality, has been the cause of great concern in modern enology, being considered, nowadays, a key point in the control of wine quality. Ethylphenols (4-ethylphenol and 4-ethylguaiacol) may be produced in wine, due to microorganisms activity, causing undesirable odours and flavours commonly described as “leather”, “horse sweat”, “animal” and “medicinal”. The main microorganisms which are responsible for the production of these compounds are strains of yeast Brettanomyces/Dekkera, more specifically Brettanomyces/Dekkera bruxellensis, a major threat in the wine industry. The main goal of this work is the quantification of strains of yeast Brettanomyces/ Dekkera, the detection and quantification of 4-ethylphenol and 4-ethylguaiacol compounds through gas chromatography and to correlate them with the presence of yeast contamination of this kind in the wine. At the same time, the total content of flavonoids and phenolic compounds as well as antioxidant properties have been studied, in eighteen samples of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro red wine. Regarding the quantification of yeast Brettanomyces/Dekkera the results shown that the number of Colony-forming unit ranged between 260 to 440 CFU.mL-1. Twelve wine samples did not show presence of this kind of yeasts. It was found that the samples that show the presence of strains of yeast Brettanomyces/Dekkera, also revealed high concentrations of volatile phenols, levels above the reference range. This concentrations varied between amongst 91,45 ± 13,53 μg.L-1 and 351,90 ± 2,43 μg.L-1 for the compound 4-ethylguaiacol and between 469,95 ± 3,90 μg.L-1 and 2847,51 ± 87,20 μg.L-1 for 4-ethylphenol. These results show that the presence of this kind of yeast affects directly the production of these metabolites. The phenolic compounds were determinated by Folin-Ciocalteau method using the gallic acid as a standard. The values of this determination fluctuate between 2,08 mg.mL-1 to 4,22 mg.mL-1. The assay of total flavonoids was based on the spectrophotometric method using the reagent aluminum chloride and as standard compound, quercetina. The values obtained ranged from 0,06 to 0,17 mg.mL-1. The results showed that the presence of Brettanomyces/Dekkera and the region of production of the wine influence the phenolic compounds content, unlike what was found in the total flavonoids. The antioxidant activity was evaluated by the method of reducing power and the blocking effect of free radicals of DPPH. The DPPH showed EC50 values of 7,78 ± 0,24 mL.L-1 and 13,89 ± 0,05 mL.L-1. The reducing power method showed higher EC50 values, with a maximum value of 14,62 ± 0,09 mL.L-1 and a minimum of 30,71 ± 0,24 mL.L-1. The antioxidant activity was influenced either by the region of production, or by the number of yeast Brettanomyces/Dekkera. The wines from the Alto Douro region were the ones that revealed the higher antioxidant activity, with smaller EC50 values. The results obtained in this work suggest that the volatile phenols production in wines is proportional to the size of the Brettanomyces/Dekkera population. This yeast is one of the biggest factor that affects the organoleptic properties of wine, therefore, the growth control of Brettanomyces is one of the main challenges in the modern production of wines, since its undesirables growth can cause great economical losses.

A cidade de Lisboa não está preparada para dar as boas vindas a todos quantos a desejam visitar. Perante a evidente diversidade humana, a persistência de barreiras arquitectónicas num espaço designado como público contraria profundamente os princípios de igualdade de oportunidade para todos os cidadãos. Tendo-se verificado que a existência de legislação no âmbito da Acessibilidade não é suficiente para garantir a sua aplicação; que o sector do Turismo é dos mais significativos da economia portuguesa; e que demograficamente se avança no sentido de um aumento significativo do índice de envelhecimento, considerou-se pertinente a utilização do sector do turismo para, através da prática do Design for All, contribuir para a promoção de um espaço público de qualidade superior em áreas vocacionadas para o turismo sénior na cidade de Lisboa, antevendo as vantagens económicas e sociais resultantes da conquista de uma maior diversidade de utilizadores, quer turistas, quer população residente. Neste sentido, o projecto de investigação desenvolveu-se através da análise de percursos turísticos da cidade de Lisboa, tendo-se assinalado obstáculos e proposto soluções universais. Solicitaram-se pareceres a peritos em Turismo e Design for All, fundamentais para validar os resultados obtidos. Concluiu-se com este trabalho que um destino acessível é turisticamente mais atractivo, levando ao desenvolvimento do turismo sénior. Simultaneamente, um espaço público de qualidade, tendo como um dos pressupostos o ser acessível, é mais procurado pela sua população. Logo, a utilização do turismo sénior como pretexto na promoção da acessibilidade no espaço público de zonas turísticas traduzir-se-ia em benefícios económicos e sociais para a cidade de Lisboa. Lisbon is not prepared to welcome everybody that wish to visit it. Given the obvious human diversity, the persistence of architectural barriers within a space designated as public deeply contradicts the principles of equal opportunity for all citizens. Considering that legislation in accessibility is insufficient to guarantee its application; that Tourism is one of the most significant sectors of the Portuguese economy; and that demographically, we are moving forward to an increase of elderly population, it is relevant to use the sector of tourism to, through the practise of Design for All, contribute to the promotion of an higher quality public space in areas of Lisbon that focus on senior tourism, foreseeing economical and social advantages that result in reaching a larger diversity of users, both tourists and residents. Therefore, the research project was developed through the analysis of some Lisbon touristic routes, where obstacles were pointed and Universal solutions were proposed. Experts in the field of Design for All were asked to provide feed-back, which was fundamental to validate the obtained results. The conclusions of this work is that an accessible destination is a touristically more attractive destination, developing therefore elderly tourism. Simultaneously, a quality public space, having as one of the assumptions to be accessible, is better searched by the resident population. Therefore, using elderly tourism as a reason to promote accessibility in public space in touristic areas of the city brings social and economical benefits towards the city of Lisbon. N/A

A avaliação da satisfação dos utentes permite obter indicadores importantes para a implementação de estratégias de melhoria contínua de qualidade dos cuidados de saúde, apoiados pela opinião de quem recebe esses cuidados. Este artigo foi desenvolvido a partir de uma base de dados nacional que resultou da aplicação do questionário IAQH-IA a 6363 utentes internados entre 2000 e 2004, com o objectivo de estudar a sua satisfação. Recorreu-se à estatística descritiva para caracterizar os utentes e os episódios de internamento, aos modelos de equações estruturais para criar modelos de satisfação que permitissem obter ponderadores para o cálculo de um índice de satisfação global e analisar a relação entre a qualidade apercebida, a satisfação e as atitudes dos utentes, à estatística inferencial para uma análise bivariada dos determinantes da satisfação global e às árvores de regressão para uma análise multivariada. Constatou-se que é prioritário desenvolver estratégias de melhoria das informações prestadas aos utentes e aos seus familiares e amigos. O impacto do internamento, o nível de estudos dos utentes e a percepção do estado de saúde actual foram identificados como importantes determinantes da satisfação dos utentes. It is well established that important indicators for the improvement of quality care strategies can be drawn from the evaluation of patients’ satisfaction levels. This study adds to the literature by exploring a unique database which results from the IAQH-IA questionnaire, with the aim of study patient satisfaction with hospital internment. The data accounts for a total of 6,363 patients, representing the period 2000-2004. Descriptive statistics allow a full characterisation of both patients and internment episodes. Using structural equation modelling techniques it is possible to derive satisfaction models and to analyze the relationship between perceived quality care, satisfaction and patients’ attitudes. Inferential statistics is also used to conduct a bivariate analysis of global satisfaction determinants. Finally, regression trees are employed to run a multivariate analysis of global satisfaction determinants. Results show that developing a system for delivering timely information to both patient and relatives is of crucial importance. This is a fundamental aspect for the patients, which, to date, seems to have been neglected by incumbent hospital management. Additionally, the results show that internment impact, the number of years spent in school and the current level of perceived health are important determinants of the patients’ global satisfaction.
