Background Drug-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) poses a significant challenge in clinical practice, necessitating a comprehensive understanding of its epidemiology and underlying mechanisms. This prospective study aimed to elucidate the clinico-etiological profile of drug-induced AKI in a tertiary care center in Northeast India and evaluate patient outcomes. Methodology Adults diagnosed with AKI following drug exposure were enrolled in this observational study conducted from August 2022 to January 2024 at Department of Nephrology, Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. Demographic data, clinical characteristics, offending pharmaceutical agents, histopathological patterns, and outcomes were meticulously documented. Results We studied 105 participants (mean age: 45 ± 10 years, 56.2% male) experiencing drug-induced AKI. Antimicrobials (24%), nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (21%), and chemotherapeutic agents (19%) were common causes, leading predominantly to acute interstitial nephritis (58%) and renal tubular epithelial cell injury (30%). Despite challenges, 73% fully recovered, with a 2% mortality rate. Age (odds ratio [OR]: 1.35, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.12–1.63, P = 0.002), male gender (OR: 1.84, 95% CI: 1.09–3.11, P = 0.022), diabetes (OR: 2.21, 95% CI: 1.28–3.82, P = 0.005), smoking (OR: 1.92, 95% CI: 1.06–3.48, P = 0.031), antimicrobial use (OR: 3.68, 95% CI: 2.14–6.32, P < 0.001), NSAID use (OR: 2.77, 95% CI: 1.56–4.92, P < 0.001), and chemotherapeutic use (OR: 1.57, 95% CI: 1.10–2.22, P < 0.001) were significant risk factors. Conclusion This study highlights the clinico-etiological profile of drug-induced AKI in Northeast India, emphasizing antimicrobials, NSAIDs, and chemotherapeutics as major contributors. Despite the high prevalence, most patients recovered, stressing early recognition and careful medication management. Age, gender, and comorbidities play critical roles, warranting targeted interventions and vigilant pharmacovigilance to mitigate the AKI burden effectively.

Staphylococcus aureus is the leading cause of milk-borne disease in animals and humans worldwide, and it is often contaminated by enterotoxigenic and antimicrobial-resistant S. aureus strains. The current research work was intended to identify the prevalence of S. aureus from samples of bovine milk from various dairy farms and local vendors of Kamrup Metro District, Assam, India, by phenotypic and genotypic identification along with antibiotic resistance profiling. The conventional aseptic methods were implemented for S. aureus isolation from milk in Baird Parker Agar, supplemented with egg yolk and potassium tellurite. Further, the isolates confirmation was carried out using the automated VITEK system and amplification of the S. aureus specific nuc gene by PCR. Antibiotic susceptibility profiling for variety of 16 antibiotics was obtained through the conventional disc diffusion method. Eighty-five presumptive isolates with jet-black colonies with a white halo on Baird Parker Agar were selected. Thirty-eight isolates were eventually confirmed as S. aureus by the automated method and the detection of nuc gene. Antibiotic profiling revealed about 60.52% of the isolates to be multidrug resistant and 55.26a ± 0.01 mm resistant against Kanamycin. The statistical analysis data expressed correlation between Penicillin G and Ampicillin with 42.10b ± 0.01 mm and correlation among Tetracycline, Methicillin and Streptomycin with 10.52h ± 0.01 mm, respectively. Resistance against Kanamycin, Trimethoprim, Cloxacillin, and Nalidixic acid is concerning as such a resistant pattern has not been extensively reported in bovine milk samples in India, which could indicate the possible emergence of MDR S. aureus strains in the study area.

Abstract Anti-HIV-1 broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs) have the dual potential of mediating virus neutralization and antiviral effector functions through their Fab and Fc domains, respectively. So far, bNAbs with enhanced Fc effector functions in vitro have only been tested in NHPs during chronic simian-HIV (SHIV) infection. Here, we investigate the effects of administering in acute SHIVAD8-EO infection either wild-type (WT) bNAbs or bNAbs carrying the S239D/I332E/A330L (DEL) mutation, which increases binding to FcγRs. Emergence of virus in plasma and lymph nodes (LNs) was delayed by bNAb treatment and occurred earlier in monkeys given DEL bNAbs than in those given WT bNAbs, consistent with faster clearance of DEL bNAbs from plasma. DEL bNAb-treated monkeys had higher levels of circulating virus-specific IFNγ single-producing CD8+ CD69+ T cells than the other groups. In LNs, WT bNAbs were evenly distributed between follicular and extrafollicular areas, but DEL bNAbs predominated in the latter. At week 8 post-challenge, LN monocytes and NK cells from DEL bNAb-treated monkeys upregulated proinflammatory signaling pathways and LN T cells downregulated TNF signaling via NF-κB. Overall, bNAbs with increased affinity to FcγRs shape innate and adaptive cellular immunity, which may be important to consider in future strategies of passive bNAb therapy.

Digoxin, a cardiac glycoside, functions by inhibiting the sodium potassium ATPase pump. It’s crucial to note that digoxin has a very narrow therapeutic range. Its serum level vary due to changes in body weight, age, renal function, hepatic impairment and concomitant drug therapy. Chronic toxicity can lead to different types of arrrythmia,which span from heart blocks to ventricular tachycardia.This report present a case of an elderly male, where Digoxin toxicity resulted in syncope and mild traumatic brain injury. Initially upon patient’s presentation ECG indicated myocardial infarction, subsequently bradycardia and complete heart block. The patient had a known history of chronic kidney disease and was prescribed 0.25mg of digoxin regularly without dose adjustment, which might have resulted in reduced digoxin elimination, leading to toxicity. Thus this case demonstrates a classic presentation of digoxin toxicity. Multiple risk factor such as old age, impaired renal function with continued digoxin treatment without dose adjustment was likely the cause of toxicity.

Furthermore, it also analyzes the historical background of Sino-Russian connections, emphasizing significant milestones and policy changes that have influenced their present economic interconnection. It analyses the problem areas of their relation and whether this bonding will withstand future changes in the global order.

Introduction: Spine fixation surgery for traumatic vertebral fractures is associated with severe pain and is often difficult to control. Traditionally systemic opioids have been the mainstay of analgesia for these procedures, which can lead to hyperalgesia, nausea, ileus, sedation, cognitive impairment, dependence, etc., limiting usage of opioids. The Erector spinae plane block (ESPB) is a novel ultrasound-guided procedure with easily identifiable sonoanatomy. We hypothesized that a multimodal approach involving ESPB to a conventional analgesic regimen with local infiltration for patients undergoing major traumatic spine surgeries might provide better perioperative analgesia and reduce the need for postoperative opioid requirements. Material and Methods: A randomized control prospective trial was conducted on 34 ASA grade I –II patients aged 18 to 65 years who were scheduled to undergo elective posterior spine fixation surgery with ASIA B to E after traumatic spine fracture under general anesthesia. Patients were randomized to Group A which included patients who received general anesthesia with ESPB, and Group B, or the control group, included patients who received general anesthesia with systemic analgesics and postoperative local infiltration without ESPB. Intraoperative total fentanyl consumption, VAS score at 0, 3, 6, 12, 18, and 24 hours, time to activate patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) pump, total morphine consumption, and opioid-related side effects were monitored and compared in both groups. Abstract Broadly neutralizing antibodies are proposed as therapeutic and prophylactic agents against HIV‐1, but their potency and breadth are less than optimal. This study describes the immunization of a llama with the prefusion‐stabilized HIV‐1 envelope (Env) trimer, BG505 DS‐SOSIP, and the identification and improvement of potent neutralizing nanobodies recognizing the CD4‐binding site (CD4bs) of vulnerability. Two of the vaccine‐elicited CD4bs‐targeting nanobodies, G36 and R27, when engineered into a triple tandem format with llama IgG2a‐hinge region and human IgG1‐constant region (G36×3‐IgG2a and R27×3‐IgG2a), neutralized 96% of a multiclade 208‐strain panel at geometric mean IC80s of 0.314 and 0.033 µg mL−1, respectively. Cryo‐EM structures of these nanobodies in complex with Env trimer revealed the two nanobodies to neutralize HIV‐1 by mimicking the recognition of the CD4 receptor. To enhance their neutralizing potency and breadth, nanobodies are linked to the light chain of the V2‐apex‐targeting broadly neutralizing antibody, CAP256V2LS. The resultant human‐llama bispecific antibody CAP256L‐R27×3LS exhibited ultrapotent neutralization and breadth exceeding other published HIV‐1 broadly neutralizing antibodies, with pharmacokinetics determined in FcRn‐Fc mice similar to the parent CAP256V2LS. Vaccine‐elicited llama nanobodies, when combined with V2‐apex broadly neutralizing antibodies, may therefore be able to fulfill anti‐HIV‐1 therapeutic and prophylactic clinical goals.

Abstract Background Existing antidepressants possess various adverse effects and so they are not considered as the first line of drug in mild depression. The lack of proper drugs to treat the mild depression on the other hand alleviates severe depressive cases. To overcome this problem, the nucleus of benzimidazole and cinnamic acid having very less toxicity were fused and a small library of 40 compounds was prepared. The library was then screened for ADMET properties and probable toxicity. Those compounds which had not shown any toxicity as well as possessed better in-silico absorption, distribution and metabolism were selected for the first phase of the study. Synthesized compounds were characterized by FTIR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR and were screened for in-vitro antidepressant activity by DNPH spectrophotometry. Result The compounds MS-3 and MS-8 had shown good antidepressant activity with IC50 values of 367.19 μM/mL and 184.56 μM/mL against MAO-A and MAO-B, respectively. Conclusion From this study, it can be concluded that the structural requirements for the inhibition of MAO-A and MAO-B were totally different. MAO-A inhibitors required the presence of nitrogen and oxygen containing ring substitutions whereas MAO-B inhibitors required the presence of 4-halogen containing phenyl ring substitutions. Abstract While several COVID-19 vaccines have been in use, more effective and durable vaccines are needed to combat the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Here, we report highly immunogenic self-assembling SARS-CoV-2 spike-HBsAg nanoparticles displaying a six-proline-stabilized WA1 (wild type, WT) spike S6P on a HBsAg core. These S6P-HBsAgs bound diverse domain-specific SARS-CoV-2 monoclonal antibodies. In mice with and without a HBV pre-vaccination, DNA immunization with S6P-HBsAgs elicited significantly more potent and durable neutralizing antibody (nAb) responses against diverse SARS-CoV-2 strains than that of soluble S2P or S6P, or full-length S2P with its coding sequence matching mRNA-1273. The nAb responses elicited by S6P-HBsAgs persisted substantially longer than by soluble S2P or S6P and appeared to be enhanced by HBsAg pre-exposure. These data show that genetic delivery of SARS-CoV-2 S6P-HBsAg nanoparticles can elicit greater and more durable nAb responses than non-nanoparticle forms of stabilized spike. Our findings highlight the potential of S6P-HBsAgs as next generation genetic vaccine candidates against SARS-CoV-2.

Abstract Agents that can simultaneously activate latent HIV, increase immune activation and enhance the killing of latently-infected cells represent promising approaches for HIV cure. Here, we develop and evaluate a trispecific antibody (Ab), N6/αCD3-αCD28, that targets three independent proteins: (1) the HIV envelope via the broadly reactive CD4-binding site Ab, N6; (2) the T cell antigen CD3; and (3) the co-stimulatory molecule CD28. We find that the trispecific significantly increases antigen-specific T-cell activation and cytokine release in both CD4+ and CD8+ T cells. Co-culturing CD4+ with autologous CD8+ T cells from ART-suppressed HIV+ donors with N6/αCD3-αCD28, results in activation of latently-infected cells and their elimination by activated CD8+ T cells. This trispecific antibody mediates CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell activation in non-human primates and is well tolerated in vivo. This HIV-directed antibody therefore merits further development as a potential intervention for the eradication of latent HIV infection.

The ecological balance of an ecosystem has a relation to its biodiversity. Although it has been established that biodiversity and ecological stability are related, generalization about the exact nature of this relation remains elusive and more so in microbial diversity. A growing volume of studies has indicated that anthropogenic activities impact biodiversity, but it is difficult to generalize the impact of anthropogenic activities on microbial diversity. Landfilling by municipal solid waste is one such activity where microbes play a major role, and leachates are released from the landfill, altering the soil’s physical and chemical nature. Change in factors like carbon source, pH, and toxicity of the soil is most likely to affect the indigenous microflora of the soil. The present study was undertaken to compare the microbial diversity of soil receiving landfill leachate with that of the soil not receiving any landfill leachate to assess the impact of the landfilling activity on microbial diversity. The landfill site selected for the study was that of Kamrup Metro District of Assam, located at Boragaon, near the Ramsar wetland called Deeporbeel. By using the Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (DGGE) method, it has been found that the microbial diversity of the soil receiving leachate was higher than that of the soil not receiving any leachate from the landfill.

Conventional thermally processed apple juices are nutritionally depleted because the heat sensitivity degrades the bioactive compounds that comprise them. This study proposed a non-thermal technique, hydrodynamic cavitation (HC), to preserve the nutritional content and prevent the loss of bioactive components in apple juice. In addition, the effect of hydrodynamic cavitation on the physicochemical, nutrition, and enzyme inactivation of freshly expressed apple juice has been studied. The design expert software has been used for process optimization, while fuzzy logic was applied for sensory. Hydrodynamic cavitation has been used on freshly extracted apple juice with inlet pressure in the range of (34.47–103.421 kPa) for a treatment time of (0–30 min). The apple juice was treated thermally at 90 °C for 2.5 min to compare the cavitation results. The settling of particles in the cavitation sample was 7%, which was lower than the heat-treated sample (10%) and untreated control sample (39%) and had a noticeable effect on the cloud value and stability of the apple juice. The HC treatment reduces the particle size of fresh apple juice from 8934.09 nm to 1112 nm, resulting in a homogenizing effect, a decrease in viscosity, and improved juice stability. Hydrodynamic cavitation reduced the antioxidant activity from 0.4987 mg GAE mL−1 (control) to 0.3951 mg GAE mL−1 yet retained better activity than the heat-treated apple juice (0.3489 ± 0.34 mg GAE mL−1) with microbial log reduction of 0.9 at 103.42 kPa treated for 30 min. After 15 days of storage at 4 °C, HC-treated juice had higher quality features and nutrient retention than heat-treated apple juice.

The conventional thermal treatment causes chemical modifications to milk constituents such as protein denaturation, loss of vitamins and flavoring compounds, depression at freezing point, and nonenzymatic browning, which may result in adverse changes to the flavor, color, and nutritional value of milk. This review looks into the emerging non-thermal processing techniques such as high-pressure processing (HPP), pulsed electric field (PEF), ultrasonication and hydrodynamic, UV-irradiation and plasma technology, cavitation, and their effects on milk components and bioactive compounds. For consumer acceptability and safety, simultaneous and crucial needs exist: microbial safety, fresh like quality and preservation of bioactive compounds. Technologies like HPP and PEF have been capable of achieving microbial reduction with moderate thermal inputs. Ultrasonication and hydrodynamic cavitation have the dual functions of deactivating microorganisms and homogenizing, and plasma and UV-C radiation could ensure minimal loss of heat-sensitive components. These processing techniques could be an alternative to pasteurization and sterilization of milk with assured microbial inactivation and maximal retention of nutrients in dairy.

ABSTRACTThe amino-acid composition of the immunoglobulin variable region has been observed to impact antibody pharmacokinetics (PK). Here, we sought to improve the PK of the broad HIV−1-neutralizing VRC01-class antibodies, VRC07-523LS and N6LS, by reducing the net positive charge in their variable domains. We used a structure-guided approach to generate a panel of antibody variants incorporating select Arg or Lys substituted to Asp, Gln, Glu, or Ser. The engineered variants exhibited reduced affinity to heparin, reduced polyreactivity, and improved PK in human FcRn-transgenic mice. One variant, VRC07-523LS.v34, with three charge substitutions, had an observed in vivo half-life and an estimated human half-life of 10.8 and 60 days, respectively (versus 5.4 and 38 days for VRC07-523LS) and retained functionality, neutralizing 92% of a 208-strain panel at a geometric mean IC80

ABSTRACTAntibody CAP256-VRC26.25 targets the second hypervariable region (V2) at the apex of the HIV envelope (Env) trimer with extraordinary neutralization potency, although less than optimal breadth. To improve breadth, we linked the light chain of CAP256V2LS, an optimized version of CAP256-VRC26.25 currently under clinical evaluation, to the llama nanobody J3, which has broad CD4-binding site-directed neutralization. The J3-linked bispecific antibody exhibited improved breadth and potency over both J3 and CAP256V2LS, indicative of synergistic neutralization. The cryo-EM structure of the bispecific antibody in complex with a prefusion-closed Env trimer revealed simultaneous binding of J3 and CAP256V2LS. We further optimized the pharmacokinetics of the bispecific antibody by reducing the net positive charge of J3. The optimized bispecific antibody, which we named CAP256.J3LS, had a half-life similar to CAP256V2LS in human FcRn knock-in mice and exhibited suitable auto-reactivity, manufacturability, and biophysical risk. CAP256.J3LS neutralized over 97% of a multiclade 208-strain panel (geometric mean concentration for 80% inhibition (IC80) 0.079 μg/ml) and 100% of a 100-virus clade C panel (geometric mean IC80 of 0.05 μg/ml), suggesting its anti-HIV utility especially in regions where clade C dominates.

Purpose: Consensual eye intra-ocular pressure (IOP) increase has been reported following ipsilateral glaucoma surgery. The study evaluated the need for increase in anti-glaucoma medications (AGM) ± glaucoma surgery to control the IOP in consensual eye following unilateral glaucoma surgery. Methods: Data of 187 consecutive patients who underwent either trabeculectomy or AGV implant were collected. Index (IE) and fellow eye (FE) IOP (baseline, follow-up day 1, week 1, months 1 and 3), acetazolamide and AGM use, FE surgery, glaucoma status, and relevant ophthalmological data were collected. Results: A significant increase from a baseline IOP of 14.4 mmHg was noted at week 1 (15.8 mmHg, p-0.005) and month 1 (15.62 mmHg, p-0.007) in FE (n-187). Among the 61 patients (33%, n-187) who needed additional intervention to reduce FE IOP, 27 (14.4%) underwent FE trabeculectomy. In the IE trabeculectomy group (n-164), significant increase in FE IOP was noted in week 1 (15.87 mmHg, p-0.014) and month 1 (15.61 mmHg, p-0.02), and in the IE AGV group (n-23) at day 1 (15.91 mmHg, p-0.06). Pre-operative acetazolamide resulted in significant increase in FE IOP at week 1 and month 1. Maximum increase in FE IOP of nearly 3.5 mm Hg was noted when IE IOP was persistently

The patient with Long QT syndrome (LQTS) presents a unique challenge to the anesthesiologist. The anesthetic management of such patients requires a good knowledge of the pathophysiology of this rare disease. General anesthesia (GA) or combined spinal epidural anesthesia (CSEA) are the most preferred anesthetic techniques among anesthesiologists for such patients posted for the lower segment cesarean section delivery. In this report, we would like to share our experience of anesthetic management of a young primigravida, a case of symptomatic LQTS with a permanent pacemaker in situ. Anesthetic technique used for the lower segment cesarean section delivery was single-shot spinal anesthesia using a combination of a local anesthetic and strong opioid in the lumber subarachnoid space. Until recently, only one report in the literature has described this single-shot spinal technique for such cases. The advantages of single shot spinal over GA and CSEA can be utilized in a select group of these patients, which include fast onset, dense, reliable block with low local anesthetic toxicity, reduced catecholamine release, and relatively prolonged analgesia when combined with an opioid.

Vaccines against the WA1 SARS-CoV2 strain confer protection against other variants. However, the mechanisms underlying cross-protection are not fully understood. Here, the authors develop a method for rapid analysis of single B cells from patient samples and show that infection with a variant elicits convergent, public B cell responses to other variants.

Abstract The broadly neutralizing antibody (bNAb) CAP256-VRC26.25 has exceptional potency against HIV-1 and has been considered for clinical use. During the characterization and production of this bNAb, we observed several unusual features. First, the antibody appeared to adhere to pipette tips, requiring tips to be changed during serial dilution to accurately measure potency. Second, during production scale-up, proteolytic cleavage was discovered to target an extended heavy chain loop, which was attributed to a protease in spent medium from 2-week culture. To enable large scale production, we altered the site of cleavage via a single amino acid change, K100mA. The resultant antibody retained potency and breadth while avoiding protease cleavage. We also added the half-life extending mutation LS, which improved the in vivo persistence in animal models, but did not impact neutralization activity; we observed the same preservation of neutralization for bNAbs VRC01, N6, and PGDM1400 with LS on a 208-virus panel. The final engineered antibody, CAP256V2LS, retained the extraordinary neutralization potency of the parental antibody, had a favorable pharmacokinetic profile in animal models, and was negative in in vitro assessment of autoreactivity. CAP256V2LS has the requisite potency, developability and suitability for scale-up, allowing its advancement as a clinical candidate.

Hydrodynamic cavitation (HC) is the process of bubbles formation, expansion, and violent collapse, which results in the generation of high pressures in the order of 100–5000 bar and temperatures in the range of 727–9727 °C for just a fraction of seconds. Increasing consumer demand for high-quality foods with higher nutritive values and fresh-like sensory attributes, food processors, scientists, and process engineers are pushed to develop innovative and effective non-thermal methods as an alternative to conventional heat treatments. Hydrodynamic cavitation can play a significant role in non-thermal food processing as it has the potential to destroy microbes and reduce enzyme activity while retaining essential nutritional and physicochemical properties. As hydrodynamic cavitation occurs in a flowing liquid, there is a decrease in local pressure followed by its recovery; hence it can be used for liquid foods. It can also be used to create stable emulsions and homogenize food constituents. Moreover, this technology can extract food constituents such as polyphenols, essential oils, pigments, etc., via biomass pretreatment, cell disruption for selective enzyme release, waste valorization, and beer brewing. Other applications related to food production include water treatment, biodiesel, and biogas production. The present review discusses the application of HC in the preservation, processing, and quality improvement of food and other related applications. The reviewed examples in this paper demonstrate the potential of hydrodynamic cavitation with further expansion toward the scaling up, which looks at commercialization as a driving force.

Full-house pattern on immunofluorescence (IF) on kidney biopsy in a patient without systemic lupus erythematosus is termed as nonlupus full-house nephropathy (FHN). In this study, we retrospectively compiled patients with nonlupus FHN and compared them with lupus FHN for clinicopathological presentation. We included patients with full-house IF patterns in renal biopsies collected from March 2007 to August 2018, clinical and histopathological data at the time of presentation were studied retrospectively. Treatment received and outcome at the end of follow-up was studied. Patients with nonlupus FHN who did not show any systemic disease (idiopathic group) were compared with a group of lupus nephritis patients. Of 178 patients, 34 had nonlupus FHN with 21 having idiopathic nonlupus FHN and 13 patients having secondary nonlupus FHN (membranous nephropathy, IgA nephropathy, postinfection glomerulonephritis). Males were more often in idiopathic nonlupus FHN patients than lupus FHN patients (P = 0.005). Kidney biopsies more often showed a mesangial (P = 0.0006) and less proliferative pattern of injury (P = 0.0002) and less intense C1q staining (P = 0.0001) in idiopathic nonlupus than lupus FHN. Clinically, idiopathic nonlupus FHN presented with more proteinuria (P = 0.0059) and less complement consumption (P = 0.001) than lupus FHN patients. Compared to lupus FHN, nonlupus has mainly nephrotic syndrome as clinical presentation. There was no difference in the clinical outcome between lupus FHN and idiopathic nonlupus FHN. Nonlupus FHN is not a very common condition and has less female involvement than in lupus FHN. Idiopathic nonlupus FHN has certain histopathological features with less C1q staining by IF, less frequent proliferative lesions and higher mesangial or membranous lesions by light microscopy compared to lupus FHN. Regarding outcomes, there is no significant difference between lupus FHN and idiopathic nonlupus FHN.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma is a disease that most commonly produce tumours from the lining of the epithelial cells of the lips, larynx, nasopharynx, mouth, or oro-pharynx. It is one of the most deadly forms of cancer. About one to two percent of all neo-plasm-related deaths are attributed to head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, which is responsible for about six percent of all cancers. MicroRNAs play a critical role in cell proliferation, differentiation, tumorigenesis, stress response, triggering apoptosis, and other physiological process. MicroRNAs regulate gene expression and provide new diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic options for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. In this work, the role of molecular signaling pathways related to head and neck squamous cell carcinoma is emphasized. We also provide an overview of MicroRNA downregulation and overexpression and its role as a diagnostic and prognostic marker in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. In recent years, MicroRNA nano-based therapies for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma have been explored. In addition, nanotechnology-based alternatives have been discussed as a promising strategy in exploring therapeutic paradigms aimed at improving the efficacy of conventional cytotoxic chemotherapeutic agents against head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and attenuating their cytotoxicity. This article also provides information on ongoing and recently completed clinical trials for therapies based on nanotechnology.

The presence of bacterial pathogens such as Brucella spp., Clostridium spp., E. coli, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella spp., Staphylococcus spp., and Streptococcus suis not only hampers pig production but also carries significant zoonotic implications. The present study aims to conduct a comprehensive meta-analysis spanning over 13 years (2010–2023) to ascertain the prevalence of these zoonotic bacterial pathogens in Indian pig populations. The study seeks to synthesize data from diverse geographic regions within India and underscores the relevance of the One Health framework. A systematic search of electronic databases was meticulously performed. Inclusion criteria encompassed studies detailing zoonotic bacterial pathogen prevalence in pigs within India during the specified timeframe. Pertinent information including authors, publication year, geographical location, sampling techniques, sample sizes, and pathogen-positive case counts were meticulously extracted. The meta-analysis of zoonotic bacterial pathogens in Indian pig populations (2010–2023) unveiled varying prevalence rates: 9% Brucella spp., 22% Clostridium spp., 19% E. coli, 12% Listeria monocytogenes, 10% Salmonella spp. and Streptococcus suis, and 24% Staphylococcus spp. The application of random effects further revealed additional variability: 6% Brucella spp., 23% Clostridium spp., 24% E. coli, 14% Listeria monocytogenes, 10% Salmonella spp. and Streptococcus suis, and 35% Staphylococcus spp. Notably, the observed heterogeneity (I2) varied significantly from 87% to 99%. The meta-analysis findings underscore the pervasive nature of these diseases throughout India’s pig populations, accentuating the substantial impact of these pathogens on pig health and the potential for zoonotic transmission. The present study reinforces the importance of the adoption of a comprehensive One Health approach that acknowledges the intricate interplay between animal, human and environmental health.
