Crystal geometry can greatly influence the emergent properties of quantum materials. As an example, the kagome lattice is an ideal platform to study the rich interplay between topology, magnetism, and electronic correlation. In this work, combining high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and ab initio calculation, we systematically investigate the electronic structure of XMn6Sn6 (X=Dy,Tb,Gd,Y) family compounds. We observe the Dirac fermion and the flat band arising from the magnetic kagome lattice of Mn atoms. Interestingly, the flat band locates in the same energy region in all compounds studied, regardless of their different magnetic ground states and 4f electronic configurations. These observations suggest a robust Mn magnetic kagome lattice across the XMn6Sn6 family, thus providing an ideal platform for the search for, and investigation of, new emergent phenomena in magnetic topological materials.

Topological superconductors (TSCs) are unconventional superconductors with bulk superconducting gap and in-gap Majorana states on the boundary that may be used as topological qubits for quantum computation. Despite their importance in both fundamental research and applications, natural TSCs are very rare. Here, combining state of the art synchrotron and laser-based angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we investigated a stoichiometric transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD), 2M-WS2 with a superconducting transition temperature of 8.8 K (the highest among all TMDs in the natural form up to date) and observed distinctive topological surface states (TSSs). Furthermore, in the superconducting state, we found that the TSSs acquired a nodeless superconducting gap with similar magnitude as that of the bulk states. These discoveries not only evidence 2M-WS2 as an intrinsic TSC without the need of sensitive composition tuning or sophisticated heterostructures fabrication, but also provide an ideal platform for device applications thanks to its van der Waals layered structure.

Recently, layered copper chalcogenides Cu2X family (X=S, Se, Te) has attracted tremendous research interests due to their high thermoelectric performance, which is partly due to the superionic behavior of mobile Cu ions, making these compounds "phonon liquids."Here, we systematically investigate the electronic structure and its temperature evolution of the less studied single crystal Cu2-xTe by the combination of angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and scanning tunneling microscope/spectroscopy (STM/STS) experiments. While the band structure of the Cu2-xTe shows agreement with the calculations, we clearly observe a 2×2 surface reconstruction from both our low temperature ARPES and STM/STS experiments which survives up to room temperature. Interestingly, our low temperature STM experiments further reveal multiple types of reconstruction patterns, which suggests the origin of the surface reconstruction being the distributed deficiency of liquidlike Cu ions. Our findings reveal the electronic structure and impurity level of Cu2Te, which provides knowledge about its thermoelectric properties from the electronic degree of freedom.

Although trauma of the Tianji robot-assisted lumbar internal fixation is reduced, the degree of pain cannot be ignored.MTLIP may improve operation efficiency and reduce puncture complications.This study aimed to explore whether MTLIP is not inferior to thoracolumbar fascial plane block (TLIP) in the treatment of lumbar internal fixation.Methods: This prospective double-blinded, non-inferiority randomized trial enrolled patients underwent Tianji robot-assisted lumbar internal fixation between April and August 2022 to either MTLIP or TLIP. The primary outcome was an effective dermatomal block area after 30 min. Secondary outcomes included the numeric rating scale (NRS) scores, nerve block operation time, puncture times, image clarity, patient satisfaction, intraoperative opioid consumption, complications/adverse reactions, and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI).Results: Sixty participants were randomized to MTLIP (n=30) and TLIP (n=30). The effective dermatomal block area 30 min after block was non-inferior in the MTLIP group (283.6 ± 62.6 cm2) compared with the TLIP group (261.4± 53.2 cm2) (P=0.145; estimated mean difference: − 22.17, 95% CI: − 52.19, 7.85; smaller than the non-inferiority margin of 39.5). Compared with TLIP, MTLIP showed shorter operation time, smaller puncture times, and better target definition and satisfaction scores (all P< 0.001). Sufentanil amount, remifentanil amount, PCIA sufentanil dosage, parecoxib amount, NRS scores (increased with time in the two groups but without inter-group differences), and complications were not significantly different between the two groups (all P> 0.05).Conclusion: This non-inferiority trial supports the hypothesis that MTLIP yields a non-inferior effective dermatomal block area compared with TLIP for Tianji robot-assisted lumbar internal fixation.Clinical Trials Registration: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR2200058687);.Keywords: local anesthetics, regional anesthesia, lumbosacral plexus, lumbar internal fixation, robotic surgical procedures

A topological superconductor (TSC) is a new type of superconductor with non-trivial topology in its bulk electronic structure, which has great potential in both fundamental research and application. However, despite the intensive research efforts worldwide, to date only a few intrinsic (non-heterostructures) materials have been proposed as TSC candidates. In this work, following the theoretical prediction, we experimentally studied a newly proposed TSC candidate, TaSe3. The topological non-trivial surface states were directly observed by using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, while the superconductivity of the compound was examined by both transport and scanning tunneling microscopy measurement. Therefore, TaSe3 was proved to be a promising candidate as a TSC, and a promising research platform for the related novel physics phenomena.

Weyl semimetals are crystalline solids that host emergent relativistic Weyl fermions and have characteristic surface Fermi-arcs in their electronic structure. Weyl semimetals with broken time reversal symmetry are difficult to identify unambiguously. In this work, using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we visualized the electronic structure of the ferromagnetic crystal Co3Sn2S2 and discovered its characteristic surface Fermi-arcs and linear bulk band dispersions across the Weyl points. These results establish Co3Sn2S2 as a magnetic Weyl semimetal that may serve as a platform for realizing phenomena such as chiral magnetic effects, unusually large anomalous Hall effect and quantum anomalous Hall effect.

Screening and early diagnosis of high-risk groups are important for the prevention and treatment of NAFLD; however, traditional imaging examinations are expensive and difficult to perform on a large scale. This study aimed to develop a simple and reliable predictive model based on the risk factors for NAFLD using a decision tree algorithm for the diagnosis of NAFLD and reduction of healthcare costs.Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study included 22,819 participants who underwent annual health examinations between January 2019 and December 2019 at Physical Examination Center in Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University. After rigorous data screening, data of 9190 participants were retained in the final dataset for use in the J48 decision tree algorithm for the construction of predictive models. Approximately 66% of these patients (n=6065) were randomly assigned to the training dataset for the construction of the decision tree, while 34% of the patients (n=3125) were assigned to the test dataset to evaluate the performance of the decision tree.Results: The results showed that the J48 decision tree classifier exhibited good performance (accuracy=0.830, precision=0.837, recall=0.830, F-measure=0.830, and area under the curve=0.905). The decision tree structure revealed waist circumference as the most significant attribute, followed by triglyceride levels, systolic blood pressure, sex, age, and total cholesterol level.Conclusion: Our study suggests that a decision tree analysis can be used to screen high-risk individuals for NAFLD. The key attributes in the tree structure can further contribute to the prevention of NAFLD by suggesting implementable targeted community interventions, which can help improve the outcome of NAFLD and reduce the burden on the healthcare system.Keywords: nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, J48 algorithm, decision tree, risk factors

Traditional and conventional blood tests are recommended for screening the suspected patients; however, applying these tests could have health side effects and expensive cost. The goal of this study was to establish a simple and reliable predictive model based on the risk factors associated with diabetes using a decision tree algorithm.Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was used in this study. A total of 10,436 participants who had a health check-up from January 2017 to July 2017 were recruited. With appropriate data mining approaches, 3454 participants remained in the final dataset for further analysis. Seventy percent of these participants (2420 cases) were then randomly allocated to either the training dataset for the construction of the decision tree or the testing dataset (30%, 1034 cases) for evaluation of the performance of the decision tree. For this purpose, the cost-sensitive J48 algorithm was used to develop the decision tree model.Results: Utilizing all the key features of the dataset consisting of 14 input variables and two output variables, the constructed decision tree model identified several key factors that are closely linked to the development of diabetes and are also modifiable. Furthermore, our model achieved an accuracy of classification of 90.3% with a precision of 89.7% and a recall of 90.3%.Conclusion: By applying simple and cost-effective classification rules, our decision tree model estimates the development of diabetes in a high-risk adult Chinese population with strong potential for implementation of diabetes management.Keywords: diabetes, J48 algorithm, decision tree, risk factors

In this review, an untechnical overview of the fundamental of magnetism in nanomaterials and an illustration of how these materials are applied are presented. The applications of nano-field effect transistor biosensors for the detection of tumor biomarker nanomaterials in the therapy and diagnosis of cancers and nanomagnetic materials are summarized in this paper. To complement machine intelligence in anomaly event analysis and correlation, in this paper, we investigate the possibility of a human-interactive visual-based anomaly detection system for faults and security attacks related to the BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) routing protocol. In particular, we have built and tested a program, based on fairly simple information visualization techniques, to navigate interactively real-life BGP OASC (Origin AS Change) events. Our initial experience demonstrates that the integration of mechanical analysis and human intelligence can effectively improve the performance of anomaly detection and alert correlation. Furthermore, while a traditional representation of OASC events provides either little or no valuable information, our program can accurately identify, correlate previously unknown BGP/OASC problems, and provide network operators with a valuable high-level abstraction about the dynamics of BGP.

However, determining the molecular drivers of these expression changes remains challenging. In ALL blasts, the p53 tumor suppressor is the primary regulator of the apoptotic response to genotoxic chemotherapy, which is predictive of outcome. Consequently, we hypothesized that the normal p53-regulated apoptotic response to DNA damage would be altered in ALL and that this alteration would influence drug response and treatment outcome. To test this, we first used global expression profiling in related human B-lineage lymphoblastoid cell lines with either wild type or mutant TP53 to characterize the normal p53-mediated transcriptional response to ionizing radiation (IR) and identified 747 p53-regulated apoptotic target genes. We then sorted these genes into six temporal expression clusters (TECs) based upon differences over time in their IR-induced p53-regulated gene expression patterns, and found that one cluster (TEC1) was associated with multidrug resistance in leukemic blasts in one cohort of children with ALL and was an independent predictor of survival in two others. Therefore, by investigating p53-mediated apoptosis in vitro, we identified a gene signature significantly associated with drug resistance and treatment outcome in ALL. These results suggest that intersecting pathway-derived and clinically derived expression data may be a powerful method to discover driver gene signatures with functional and clinical implications in pediatric ALL and perhaps other cancers as well. To date, there have been few studies dedicated to elucidating the molecular mechanisms behind the disease; therefore, the molecular mechanisms behind this malignancy remain largely unknown.Materials and methods: Microarray profiles of 46 DDLPS samples and nine normal fat controls were extracted from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO). Quality control for these microarray profiles was performed before analysis. Hierarchical clustering and principal component analysis were used to distinguish the general differences in gene expression between DDLPS samples and the normal fat controls. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified using the Limma package in R. Next, the enriched Gene Ontology (GO) terms and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways were obtained using the online tool DAVID (http://david.abcc.ncifcrf.gov/). A protein–protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed using the STRING database and Cytoscape software. Furthermore, the hub genes within the PPI network were identified.Results: All 55 microarray profiles were confirmed to be of high quality. The gene expression pattern of DDLPS samples was significantly different from that of normal fat controls. In total, 700 DEGs were identified, and 83 enriched GO terms and three KEGG pathways were obtained. Specifically, within the DEGs of DDLPS samples, several pathways were identified as being significantly enriched, including the PPAR signaling pathway, cell cycle pathway, and pyruvate metabolism pathway. Furthermore, the dysregulated PPI network of DDLPS was constructed, and 14 hub genes were identified. Characteristic of DDLPS, the genes CDK4 and MDM2 were universally found to be up-regulated and amplified in gene copy number.Conclusion: This study used bioinformatics to comprehensively mine DDLPS microarray data in order to obtain a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanism of DDLPS.
