Rice (Oryza sativa) exhibits tremendous aluminum (Al)-tolerance. The C2H2-transcription factor (TF) ART1 critically regulates rice Al tolerance via modulation of specific gene expression. However, little is known about the posttranscriptional ART1 regulation. Here, we identified an ART1-interacted gene OsNAC016 via a yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) assay. OsNAC016 was primarily expressed in roots and weakly induced by Al. Immunostaining showed that OsNAC016 was a nuclear protein and localized in all root cells. Knockout of OsNAC016 did not alter Al sensitivity. Overexpression of OsNAC016 resulted in less Al aggregation within roots and enhanced Al tolerance in rice. Based on transcriptomic and qRT-PCR evaluations, certain cell-wall-related or ART-regulated gene expressions such as OsMYB30 and OsFRDL4 were altered in OsNAC016-overexpressing plants. These results indicated that OsNAC016 interacts with ART1 to cooperatively regulate some Al-tolerance genes and is a critical regulatory factor in rice Al tolerance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to explore the electromagnetic transmission performance of frequency selective fabrics (FSFs) with fractal units, six samples of Y-shaped fractal parameters with different sizes were prepared by computer embroidery technology, and tested using anechoic chamber test method. The effects of unit type, polarization mode, incident angle and unit size parameters on the transmission performance of different samples were respectively analyzed in depth. The results show that for the aperture type and patch type FSFs, the incident angle has a certain influence. When the incident angle of the two groups of samples is 0°, the resonance peak is the largest. When the incident angle increases to 45°, there are two resonance peaks of different amplitudes in the range of 4 GHz ∼ 20 GHz. The size and spacing of the unit pattern have both visible effects on the transmission coefficient, but the former has a greater impact on the transmission coefficient. There is a certain tension and contraction between the base fabrics during the preparation of the flexible FSFs, which are controlled to make the sample size more accurate. In addition, in order to reduce the calculation time and improve the design efficiency, two kinds of patch type and aperture type with the same size were simulated and optimized using HFSS algorithm. Amaranth plants are rich in betalains. Additionally, the molecular structure and metabolic pathway of betalains are different in amaranth than in beet. To date, only a few studies have examined the regulatory roles of microRNAs (miRNAs) in betalain biosynthesis in plants. Thus, we constructed small RNA libraries for the red and green sectors of amaranth leaves to identify miRNAs associated with betalain biosynthesis. We identified 239 miRNAs including 198 known and 41 novel miRNAs. 493 target genes for the 239 miRNAs were detected in an amaranth transcriptome database. The validation of the expression of 20 miRNAs and nine target genes in a quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction assay revealed the miRNAs and target genes that were differentially expressed in the two leaf sectors. The miRNAs involved in betalain metabolism in amaranth plants were identified by Illumina sequencing platform. The data presented herein may provide insights into the regulation molecular mechanisms for betalain biosynthesis in amaranth and other plant species. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
