Purpose: Insulin resistance is associated with kidney impairment in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI), which combines the TyG index with body mass index (BMI), has received significant attention as a tool for evaluating insulin resistance. Thus, the aim of this study was to explore the association between TyG-BMI and kidney impairment in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Patients and Methods: The cross-sectional analysis included 1080 patients with T2DM, and data were collected retrospectively. TyG-BMI was calculated by fasting blood glucose, triglyceride, and body mass index. Results: TyG-BMI was significantly higher in T2DM patients with albuminuria than those without albuminuria (232.16 [206.52– 268.02] vs 229.83 [206.11– 255.64], p =0.023). T2DM patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) showed a significantly higher value of TyG-BMI compared with those without CKD (232.23 [206.46– 268.28] vs 229.73 [206.11– 255.49], p=0.014). Correlation analysis showed a significantly positive association between TyG-BMI and metabolic parameters including BMI (r = 0.866, p < 0.001), TG (r = 0.630, p < 0.001), TC (r = 0.119, p < 0.001), HDL-C (r = − 0.374, p < 0.001), FBG (r = 0.297, p < 0.001), and HbA1c (r = 0.116, p < 0.001) in patients with T2DM. The binary logistic regression analysis found that TyG-BMI was an independent factor for albuminuria (OR = 1.004, 95% CI: 1.001– 1.008, p = 0.010) and CKD (OR = 1.005, 95% CI: 1.001– 1.008, p = 0.005) in patients with T2DM respectively. Conclusion: The study suggests that TyG-BMI is associated with kidney impairment in patients with T2DM. Given that TyG-BMI is a novel parameter of insulin resistance, the study results indicates that clinicians should pay close attention to screening for kidney impairment in T2DM patients with insulin resistance. Objective: We aimed to assess the association between serum bilirubin levels and interstitial lung disease (ILD) in patients with Primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS). Materials and methods: The retrospectively analysis included 89 consecutive patients with pSS, we collected the clinical materials of pSS patients from the electronic medical records, and all pSS patients were divide into pSS with ILD group and pSS without ILD group. Results: Serum bilirubin levels were significantly lower in pSS patients with ILD than those without ILD (p = 0.010). Serum bilirubin levels showed a significant negative correlation with erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) (r = -0.321, p = 0.002) in patients with pSS. A multivariable logistic regression analysis confirmed that serum bilirubin presented an independent association with ILD in patients with pSS (OR = 0.841, 95%CI:0.728–0.972, p = 0.019). Conclusion: Serum bilirubin is independently associated with ILD and therefore may be a promising marker of ILD in patients with pSS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: It has been well documented that the platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and the neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) are associated with outcomes for patients with gastric cancer, non-small cell lung cancer and acute heart failure. Inflammation may be the hidden factor that explains the correlation between NLP, PLR, and these diseases. However, to date, the data concerning NLR, PLR, and its association with inflammation are lacking in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), thus, our aim to discuss whether NLR and PLR are associated with RA. Methods: Patients with RA and healthy individuals were included according to the determined criteria, and laboratory indicators were measured. Results: PLR and NLR were significantly higher in RA patients compared with healthy controls (3.20±2.06 vs. 1.56±0.47, P115.7 evaluated RA with a sensitivity of 82.5%, a specificity of 74.8% and area under the curve ( AUC ) of 0.847. Conclusions:Our results suggest that PLR is associated with RA, and PLR may be an underlying indicator indicating the chronic subclinical inflammation in patients with RA.

B ackground: Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) that describes red blood cell volume heterogeneity is a common laboratory test. Our aim was to focus on th e association between RDW and a c ute pancreatitis associated lung injury (APALI). Methodology: A total of 152 acute pancreatitis (AP) patients who conformed to the criteria w ere included in this study. The demographic data, medical histories and laboratory measures was obtained from each patient on admission, further, the medical histories and biological data were analyzed, retrospectively. Results: Increased RDW at admission was observed in patients with APALI compared with the non-APALI groups. Our results exhibited that RDW was an independent risk factor for APALI after adjusting leukocyte, neutrophil percentage, random blood glucose (RBG), total bilirubin (TB) and total bile acid（TBA）(Crude model) (OR=2.671;CI 95% 1.145-6.230; P=0.023), further adjustment based on Crude model for sex and age did not attenuate the significantly high risk of APALI in patients with AP, RWD still remained a ro les as an independent risk factor for APALI (OR=2.653;CI95 % 1.123-6.138; P=0.026). Conclusions: Our study demonstrate that RDW at admission is associated with APALI and should be considered as an underlying risk factor of APALI.

Takayasu arteritis (TA) is a chronic, recurrent, inflammatory vasculitis characterized by granulomatous inflammation in the vessel wall, and mainly affects young females. (1) The aortic arch and its primary branches, [...], Context.--Bilirubin has strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidative stress action. Progression of inflammation involving arteries is a crucial activator in pathogenesis of Takayasu arteritis (TA). Objective.--To investigate the relationship between serum bilirubin and TA. Design.--Our study involved 115 consecutive TA patients. Patients with active-phase disease were followed and received prednisone therapy. Results.--Lower concentrations of serum bilirubin were detected in TA patients compared with healthy subjects (0.6 [+ or -] 0.31 versus 0.7 [+ or -] 0.22 mg/dL, P = .02). Serum bilirubin concentrations in active TA patients were lower than those in inactive patients (0.5 [+ or -] 0.20 versus 0.8 [+ or -] 0.32 mg/dL, P < .001). In all patients with TA, serum bilirubin correlated positively with total protein (r = 0.193, P = .04) and negatively with C-reactive protein and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (r = -0.213, P = .03, and r = -0.532, P < .001, respectively). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that each decrease of 1 mg/dL in serum bilirubin was associated with a 1.10 times increase in the odds for TA compared with the controls (odds ratio = 0.913, 95% CI, 0.856-0.974; P = .006). Serum bilirubin was correlated with erythrocyte sedimentation rate ([beta] = -0.170, P < .001) in multiple linear regression analysis. The area under the curve for serum bilirubin in predicting active TA patients was 0.802. Serum bilirubin levels were found to be significantly increased after prednisone treatment (0.5 [+ or -] 0.20 versus 0.7 [+ or -] 0.15 mg/dL, P = .002). Conclusions.--Lower serum bilirubin levels are associated with TA, and serum bilirubin may be influenced by prednisone therapy in active TA patients. Background Takayasu arteritis is a chronic non-specific inflammatory disease and mean platelet volume can either be decreased or increased during inflammation. However, there are no published data to confirm an association between mean platelet volume and Takayasu arteritis. Our aim was to evaluate the role of mean platelet volume in patients with Takayasu arteritis. Methods A total of 119 consecutive patients with Takayasu arteritis and 217 healthy individuals were included in this study. Forty-five Takayasu arteritis patients with active disease were followed with prednisone therapy. Results Mean platelet volume of patients was low compared with control groups (10.1 ± 1.47 fL vs. 11.2 ± 0.91 fL; P < 0.001). Mean platelet volume was lower in active Takayasu arteritis than in inactive Takayasu arteritis patients (9.3 ± 1.39 fL vs. 10.6 ± 1.28 fL; P< 0.001). Mean platelet volume values were significantly increased after prednisone treatment (9.3 ± 1.45 fL vs. 10.5 ± 1.29 fL; P < 0.001). Mean platelet volume negatively correlated with C-reactive protein, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, neutrophil count and platelet count (r = - 0.219, P = 0.018; r = - 0.296, P < 0.001; r = - 0.273, P = 0.003; r =-0.486, P< 0.001), and positively correlated with platelet distribution width (r=0.304, P ≤ 0.001) in patients with Takayasu arteritis. An inverse correlation between mean platelet volume and erythrocyte sedimentation rate was observed in active Takayasu arteritis patients (r = -0.406, P = 0.010). In multiple linear regression analysis, mean platelet volume was independently correlated with erythrocyte sedimentation rate in patients with Takayasu arteritis. Conclusions Our results suggest that mean platelet volume may identify active disease in patients with Takayasu arteritis, and the values of mean platelet volume may help to establish remission of active disease after treatment in Takayasu arteritis patients. Objective: Poor glycemic control increases the risk of diabetes complications. Serum cancer antigen 125 (CA125) has been associated with diabetes status in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Our aim was to focus on the association between serum CA125 and renal impairment in patients with T2DM., Methods: Retrospective study included 151 patients with T2DM, with review of clinical and laboratory data., Results: Serum CA125 levels were positively correlated with urinary microalbumin and 24-hours urinary protein (r=0.170, p =0.037; r=0.186, p =0.022) in T2DM patients. Patients with 24-hours urinary protein positive maintained higher serum CA125 levels than those with 24-hours urinary protein negative ( p =0.047). Multiple linear regression analysis indicated that serum CA125 was independently correlated with urinary microalbumin and 24-hours urinary protein in T2DM patients (beta=0.192, p =0.042; beta=0.203, p =0.025)., Conclusions: Serum CA125 levels are positively correlated with urinary microalbumin and 24-hours urinary protein in T2DM patients; renal impairment may increase serum CA125 levels in T2DM patients., (© 2020 by the Association of Clinical Scientists, Inc.)

Background: Depressive symptoms have been linked with insulin resistance in middle-aged and elderly populations. A strong relationship between peripheral insulin resistance and glucose homeostasis imbalance has been well established in previous studies. The role of serum fructosamine and fasting blood glucose (FBG) in elevating glucose homeostasis has been documented in the literature., Objectives: The aim of the study was to examine the association of serum fructosamine and FBG with major depressive disorder (MDD)., Material and Methods: The study analyzed the clinical characteristics and biochemical parameters of 305 patients with MDD and 312 healthy individuals., Results: Serum concentrations of lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C), total protein (TP) and creatinine (Cr) were found to be significantly different between the two groups. Serum fructosamine and fasting blood glucose (FBG) concentrations were high in patients with MDD compared with healthy individuals (2.3 ± 0.26 vs. 2.1 ± 0.27, p = 0.018; 4.7 ± 0.45 vs. 4.5 ± 0.45, p < 0.001). The levels of serum fructosamine and FBG were also significantly higher in patients with MDD when all participants were stratified by gender. Age was found to be positively correlated with FBG, serum fructosamine and Cr (r = 0.203, p < 0.001; r = 0.129, p = 0.025; r = 0.129, p = 0.024), and negatively correlated with TP (r = -0.114, p = 0.047) in patients with MDD. However, there were no correlations between age and FBG, serum fructosamine or Cr in the healthy controls. In a multivariate logistic regression analysis, increased serum fructosamine and FBG concentrations were positively associated with MDD independently of age and gender, after adjustment for age and potential confounding factors (OR = 6.313, CI95 %:2.953-13.393, p < 0.001; OR = 2.251, CI95 %: 1.464-3.462, p < 0.001)., Conclusions: The study results suggest that increased serum fructosamine and FBG concentrations are associated with depressive conditions, which may influence glucose metabolism and impair glucose homeostasis in patients with MDD.

Objective: To study the distribution of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) of arginine-vasopressin (AVP) gene rs66818855 and rs1078152 in Chinese Guangxi healthy population in comparison with that in different ethnic populations., Methdos: Polymerase chain reaction-single base extension (PCR-SBE) and DNA sequencing were used to detect the allele and genotype frequencies of AVP gene among 303 Chinese healthy individuals in Guangxi, China, and the results were compared with the reported frequencies in 4 other populations (HapMap-CEU, HapMap-YRI, HapMap-JPT, and HapMap-HCB) from Human Genome Project group (HapMap) data., Results: We found significant AVP gene polymorphisms in this Guangxi healthy population. The frequencies of allele and genotype of AVP gene rs66818855 and rs1078152 polymorphisms in this Guangxi population differed significantly from those in HapMap-CEU population (P<0.01), and allele frequencies of AVP gene rs66818855 polymorphism differed significantly from those in HapMap-YRI populations (P<0.05)., Conclusion: The distribution pattern of AVP gene polymorphisms in this Guangxi population is significantly different from that in other ethnic populations, which might account for the difference in the morbidity of AVP-related disease among different ethnic groups and may have important indications in the study of population genetics and anthropology.
