Abstract Purpose Higher medical education has always been a major project in the fields of education and health, and therefore, the quality of education has received much attention. Learning engagement has emerged as a significant indicator of teaching quality, attracting considerable research attention. This study aims to explore the relationship between medical students’ learning engagement and their sense of school belonging, professional identity, and academic self-efficacy. Methods We conducted an online survey using convenience sampling method with 311 medical students. We employed Revised version of the Utrech Work Engagement Scale-Student (UWES-S), Chinese version of the Psychological Sense of School Membership (PSSM) scale, Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, and the questionnaire of college students’ speciality identity for evaluation. Network analysis was used to analyze the relationships among these factors. Results Medical students’ overall performance in school showed a positive trend. However, there is still room for improvement. In the network structure of learning engagement and its influencing factors, the “emotional” aspect of professional identity (EI = 1.11) was considered to be an important node with strong centrality. And “academic competence self-efficacy” aspect of academic self-efficacy (BEI = 0.72) was considered an important node with strong transitivity. Conclusion Deepening medical students’ emotional identification with their profession and enhancing their confidence in their academic abilities may improve their learning engagement and educational quality.

Abstract Objectives To explore the predictive performance of tumor and multiple peritumoral regions on dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), to identify optimal regions of interest for developing a preoperative predictive model for the grade of microvascular invasion (MVI). Methods A total of 147 patients who were surgically diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma, and had a maximum tumor diameter ≤ 5 cm were recruited and subsequently divided into a training set (n = 117) and a testing set (n = 30) based on the date of surgery. We utilized a pre-trained AlexNet to extract deep learning features from seven different regions of the maximum transverse cross-section of tumors in various MRI sequence images. Subsequently, an extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) classifier was employed to construct the MVI grade prediction model, with evaluation based on the area under the curve (AUC). Results The XGBoost classifier trained with data from the 20-mm peritumoral region showed superior AUC compared to the tumor region alone. AUC values consistently increased when utilizing data from 5-mm, 10-mm, and 20-mm peritumoral regions. Combining arterial and delayed-phase data yielded the highest predictive performance, with micro- and macro-average AUCs of 0.78 and 0.74, respectively. Integration of clinical data further improved AUCs values to 0.83 and 0.80. Conclusion Compared with those of the tumor region, the deep learning features of the peritumoral region provide more important information for predicting the grade of MVI. Combining the tumor region and the 20-mm peritumoral region resulted in a relatively ideal and accurate region within which the grade of MVI can be predicted. Clinical relevance statement The 20-mm peritumoral region holds more significance than the tumor region in predicting MVI grade. Deep learning features can indirectly predict MVI by extracting information from the tumor region and directly capturing MVI information from the peritumoral region. Key Points We investigated tumor and different peritumoral regions, as well as their fusion. MVI predominantly occurs in the peritumoral region, a superior predictor compared to the tumor region. The peritumoral 20 mm region is reasonable for accurately predicting the three-grade MVI. Graphical Abstract

Working memory (WM) is an essential cognitive function that underpins various higher-order cognitive processes. Improving WM capacity through targeted training interventions has emergered as a potential approach for enhancing cognitive abilities. The present study employed an 8-week regimen of computerized WM training (WMT) to investigate its effect on neuroplasticity in healthy individuals, utilizing neuroimaging data gathered both before and after the training. The key metrics assessed included the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF), voxel-based morphometry (VBM), and the spatial distribution correlations of neurotransmitter. The results indicated that post-training, compared to baseline, there was a reduction in ALFF in the medial superior frontal gyrus and an elevation in ALFF in the left middle occipital gyrus within the training group. In comparison to the control group, the training group also exhibited decreased ALFF in the anterior cingulate cortex, angular gyrus, and superior parietal lobule, along with increased ALFF in the postcentral gyrus post-training. VBM analysis revealed a significant increase in gray matter volume (GMV) in the right dorsal superior frontal gyrus after the training period, compared to the initial baseline measurement. Furthermore, the training group showed GMV increases in the dorsal superior frontal gyrus, Rolandic operculum, precentral gyrus, and postcentral gyrus when compared to the control group. In addition, significant associations were identifed between neuroimaging measurements (AFLL and VBM) and the spatial patterns of neurotransmitters such as serotonin (5-HT), dopamine (DA), and N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA), providing insights into the underlying neurochemical processes. These findings clarify the neuroplastic changes caused by WMT, offering a deeper understanding of brain plasticity and highlighting the potential advantages of cognitive training interventions.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a common hematological malignancy with overall poor prognosis. Exploring novel targets is urgent and necessary to improve the clinical outcome of relapsed and refractory (RR) AML patients. Through clinical specimens, animal models and cell-level studies, we explored the specific mechanism of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A synthase 1 (HMGCS1) in AML and the mechanism of targeting HMGCS1 to attenuate cell proliferation, increase chemotherapy sensitivity and improve the occurrence and development of AML. Here, we reveal that HMGCS1 is overexpressed in RR patients and negatively related to overall survival (OS). Knocking out HMGCS1 in AML cells attenuated cell proliferation and increased chemotherapy sensitivity, while stable overexpression of HMGCS1 had the opposite effects. Mechanistically, we identified that knockout of HMGCS1 suppressed mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway activity, while overexpression of HMGCS1 could remarkably enhance the pathway. U0126, a MEK1 inhibitor, offset the effects of HMGCS1 overexpression, indicating that HMGCS1 promotes RR AML through the MAPK pathway. Further, we verified that hymeglusin, a specific inhibitor of HMGCS1, decreases cell growth both in AML cell lines and primary bone marrow cells of AML patients. Furthermore, combination of hymeglusin and the common chemotherapeutic drug cytarabine and adriamycin (ADR) had synergistic toxic effects on AML cells. Our study demonstrates the important role of HMGCS1 in AML, and targeting this protein is promising for the treatment of RR AML.

This long-term study protocol aims to compare the clinical outcomes of patients with severe lower limb trauma undergoing orthoplastic and orthopedic surgeries, focusing on their physical and psychological status. Patients with lower limb injuries and open fractures have been recruited since October 2019 and will be followed up until October 2024. The patients will be divided into two groups: (1) Orthoplastic group, where single-stage debridement, fixation, and soft tissue repair will be performed, and (2) Orthopedic group, where soft tissue repair will be done in a delayed-stage. The follow-up period will be one year, during which clinical data, limb function recovery, psychological scores, and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) will be evaluated to assess postoperative recovery and clinical outcomes. Additional clinical data, such as socio-demographic information, baseline features, Enneking score, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score, two-point discrimination score, and blood test parameters will also be collected. The 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) will be used to evaluate HRQOL, while the Post-traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist (PCL) will assess the severity of self-reported post-traumatic stress disorder. The results of this study will provide valuable insights into prognostically relevant targets and contribute to improving the management and outcomes of patients with lower limb injuries and open fractures, who often face challenges related to limb disability and potential amputation postoperatively, significantly impacting their psychological and physical well-being.

Most of current prostheses can offer motor function restoration for limb amputees but usually lack natural and intuitive sensory feedback. Many studies have demonstrated that Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is promising in non-invasive sensation evoking for amputees. However, the objective evaluation and mechanism analysis on sensation feedback are still limited. This work utilized multi-channel TENS with diverse stimulus patterns to evoke sensations on four non-disabled subjects and two transradial amputees. Meanwhile, electroencephalogram (EEG) was collected to objectively assess the evoked sensations, where event-related potentials (ERPs), brain electrical activity maps (BEAMs), and functional connectivity (FC) were computed. The results show that various sensations could be successfully evoked for both amputees and non-disabled subjects by customizing stimulus parameters. The ERP confirmed the sensation and revealed the sensory-processing-related components like N100 and P200; the BEAMs confirmed the corresponding regions of somatosensory cortex were activated by stimulation; the FC indicated an increase of interactions between the regions of sensorimotor cortex. This study may shed light on how the brain responds to external stimulation as sensory feedback and serve as a pilot for further bidirectional closed-loop prosthetic control.

Electrophysiological recordings are vital in assessing biological functions, diagnosing diseases, and facilitating biofeedback and rehabilitation. The applications of conventional wet (gel) electrodes often come with some limitations. Microneedle array electrodes (MAEs) present a possible solution for high-quality electrophysiological acquisition, while the prior technologies for MAE fabrication have been either complex, expensive, or incapable of producing microneedles with uniform dimensions. This work employed a projection stereolithography (P $\mu $ SL) 3D printing technology to fabricate MAEs with micrometer-level precision. The MAEs were compared with gel and flat electrodes on electrode-skin interface impedance (EII) and performances of EMG and ECG acquisition. The experimental results indicate that the P $\mu $ SL 3D printing technology contributed to an easy-to-perform and low-cost fabrication approach for MAEs. The developed MAEs exhibited promising EII and enabled a stable EMG and ECG acquisition in different conditions without inducing skin allergies, inflammation, or injuries. This research lies in the development of a type of customizable MAE with considerable biomedical application potentials for ultra-minimally invasive or non-invasive electrophysiological acquisition.

Abstract Parkinson’s disease (PD) exhibits significant clinical heterogeneity, presenting challenges in the identification of reliable electroencephalogram (EEG) biomarkers. Machine learning techniques have been integrated with resting-state EEG for PD diagnosis, but their practicality is constrained by the interpretable features and the stochastic nature of resting-state EEG. The present study proposes a novel and interpretable deep learning model, graph signal processing-graph convolutional networks (GSP-GCNs), using event-related EEG data obtained from a specific task involving vocal pitch regulation for PD diagnosis. By incorporating both local and global information from single-hop and multi-hop networks, our proposed GSP-GCNs models achieved an averaged classification accuracy of 90.2%, exhibiting a significant improvement of 9.5% over other deep learning models. Moreover, the interpretability analysis revealed discriminative distributions of large-scale EEG networks and topographic map of microstate MS5 learned by our models, primarily located in the left ventral premotor cortex, superior temporal gyrus, and Broca’s area that are implicated in PD-related speech disorders, reflecting our GSP-GCN models’ ability to provide interpretable insights identifying distinctive EEG biomarkers from large-scale networks. These findings demonstrate the potential of interpretable deep learning models coupled with voice-related EEG signals for distinguishing PD patients from healthy controls with accuracy and elucidating the underlying neurobiological mechanisms.

Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) seems opportune for neurofeedback in robot-assisted rehabilitation training due to its noninvasive, less physical restriction, and no electromagnetic disturbance. Previous research has proved the cross-session reliability of fNIRS responses to non-motor tasks (e.g., visual stimuli) and fine-motor tasks (e.g., finger tapping). However, it is still unknown whether fNIRS responses remain reliable 1) in gross-motor tasks, 2) within a training session, and 3) for different training parameters. Hence, this study aimed to investigate the within-session reliability of fNIRS responses to gross-motor tasks for different training parameters. Ten healthy participants were recruited to conduct right elbow extension-flexion in three robot-assisted modes. The Passive mode was fully motor-actuated, while Active1 and Active2 modes involved active engagement with different resistance levels. FNIRS data of three identical runs were used to assess the within-session reliability in terms of the map- ( ${R}^{{2}}$ ) and cluster-wise ( ${R}_{\textit {over}\textit {lap}}$ ) spatial reproducibility and the intraclass correlation (ICC) of temporal features. The results revealed good spatial reliability ( ${R}^{{2}}$ up to 0.69, ${R}_{\textit {over}\textit {lap}}$ up to 0.68) at the subject level. Besides, the within-session temporal reliabilities of Slope, Max/Min, and Mean were between good and excellent ( $0.60< $ ICC < 0.86). We also found that the within-session reliability was positively correlated with the intensity of the training mode, except for the temporal reliability of HbO in Active2 mode. Overall, our results demonstrated good within-session reliability of fNIRS responses, suggesting fNIRS as reliable neurofeedback for constructing closed-loop robot-assisted rehabilitation systems.

Background: Auditory Verbal Hallucinations (AVH) constitute a prominent feature of schizophrenia. Although low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has demonstrated therapeutic benefits in ameliorating AVH, the underlying mechanisms of its efficacy necessitate further elucidation. Objective: This study investigated the cortical gradient characteristics and their associations with clinical responses in schizophrenia patients with AVH, mediated through 1 Hz rTMS targeting the left temporoparietal junction. Method: Functional gradient metrics were employed to examine the hierarchy patterns of cortical organization, capturing whole-brain functional connectivity profiles in patients and controls. Results: The 1 Hz rTMS treatment effectively ameliorated the positive symptoms in patients, specifically targeting AVH. Initial evaluations revealed expanded global gradient distribution patterns and specific principal gradient variations in certain brain regions in patients at baseline compared to a control cohort. Following treatment, these divergent global and local patterns showed signs of normalizing. Furthermore, there was observed a closer alignment in between-network dispersion among various networks after treatment, including the somatomotor, attention, and limbic networks, indicating a potential harmonization of brain functionality. Conclusion: Low-frequency rTMS induces alternations in principal functional gradient patterns, may serve as imaging markers to elucidate the mechanisms underpinning the therapeutic efficacy of rTMS on AVH in schizophrenia.

Abstract Piezoelectrets, also called ferroelectrets, can exhibit promising piezoelectric properties and have plenty of applications in wearable health monitoring. Usually, the cellular structure of piezoelectrets is of outstanding importance for their sensing properties, and structure improvement and optimisation would be a possible way to realise high‐performance piezoelectrets. The authors proposed a compound‐structured piezoelectret system, where a layer of polypropylene foam was sandwiched between two layers of solid polytetrafluoroethylene, resulting in a combination of a foam‐structured and a layer‐structured piezoelectrets. The compound systems are thin and flexible, they can exhibit stable electrical outputs, they have relatively broader linear working range under pressure, and promising mechanical sustainability for multiple testing. The results reveal that the compound system can be considered as a simple addition of both components, and each component contributes linearly and independently to the whole system. The application potential of this proposed compound system has been demonstrated by sleep monitoring together with carotid and radial pulse recordings, where many useful physiological information including breath, heartbeat, and pulse details can be extracted from the signals acquired by the compound system. A type of flexible sensor system that is very competitive for future portable and wearable applications may be provided.

One-pot synthesis of polymerized methyl imidazole silver bromide (CH3C6H5AgBr)6 Compound 1 was carried out by the reaction of methylimidazole, 1,2-dibromoethane, and Ag2O in tetrahydrofuran at 60°C for 2 h. Compound 1 was characterized by elemental analysis, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal cell parameters of Compound 1 are as follows: a = 8.916(4) Å, b = 17.655(9) Å, c = 9.024(4) Å, α = 90°, β = 103.621(7)°, γ = 90°, V = 1380.6(12) Å3, and Z = 4. The silver atoms in Compound 1 are pentacoordinated with three bromine atoms, one silver atom, and one nitrogen atom of methyl imidazole, and polymeric methyl imidazole silver bromide was formed based on this structure. The catalytic effects under optimized conditions were investigated in this study, and the results showed that Compound 1 possesses a strong catalytic effect on the oxidation of 2-methylnaphthalene with a conversion rate of 77.15% by using hydrogen peroxide as the oxidant at 80°C for 3 h. The catalytic mechanism was explored simultaneously.

BackgroundAnkylosing Spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory disorder which can lead to considerable pain and disability. Mendelian randomization (MR) has been extensively applied for repurposing licensed drugs and uncovering new therapeutic targets. Our objective is to pinpoint innovative therapeutic protein targets for AS and assess the potential adverse effects of druggable proteins.MethodsWe conducted a comprehensive proteome-wide MR study to assess the causal relationships between plasma proteins and the risk of AS. The plasma proteins were sourced from the UK Biobank Pharma Proteomics Project (UKB-PPP) database, encompassing GWAS data for 2,940 plasma proteins. Additionally, GWAS data for AS were extracted from the R9 version of the Finnish database, including 2,860 patients and 270,964 controls. The colocalization analysis was executed to identify shared causal variants between plasma proteins and AS. Finally, we examined the potential adverse effects of druggable proteins for AS therapy by conducting a phenome-wide association study (PheWAS) utilizing the extensive Finnish database in version R9, encompassing 2,272 phenotypes categorized into 46 groups.ResultsThe findings revealed a positive genetic association between the predicted plasma levels of six proteins and an elevated risk of AS, while two proteins exhibited an inverse association with AS risk (Pfdr < 0.05). Among these eight plasma proteins, colocalization analysis identified AIF1, TNF, FKBPL, AGER, ALDH5A1, and ACOT13 as shared variation with AS(PPH3+PPH4>0.8), suggesting that they represent potential direct targets for AS intervention. Further phenotype-wide association studies have shown some potential side effects of these six targets (Pfdr < 0.05).ConclusionOur investigation examined the causal connections between six plasma proteins and AS, providing a comprehensive understanding of potential therapeutic targets.

Background and objective: Hypertension affects over a billion people worldwide and is often associated with poor prognoses. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has become a significant marker, showing a connection to adverse outcomes in cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). The objective of this study is to examine the relationship between the NLR and outcomes in patients with hypertension. Methods: The study included hypertensive individuals who were surveyed in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2009 to 2018. Mortality status was determined using the data from National Death Index (NDI). To investigate the dose-response relationship, restricted cubic spline (RCS) models were used. This study employed adjusted cox proportional hazards regression models to compute hazard ratios (HRs) and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. The predictive accuracy of the NLR for survival outcomes was assessed utilizing time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Results: A total of 13,724 participants were included in the final analysis, including 7073 males and 6651 females. The cohort was stratified into higher (>2.0) and lower (≤2.0) NLR groups according to the median value. Over a median follow-up of 64 months, there were 1619 all-cause deaths and 522 cardiovascular deaths among participants. The RCS analysis indicated a non-linear relationship between NLR and the risk of mortality. The adjusted model showed that the group with a higher NLR had a significantly higher risk of all-cause (HR 1.47, 95% CI 1.22–1.77) and cardiovascular mortality (HR 2.08, 95% CI 1.52–2.86). ROC analysis showed that the area under the curves (AUCs) of 0.692, 0.662, 0.644, and 0.625 for predicting all-cause mortality, and 0.712, 0.692, 0.687, and 0.660 for cardiovascular mortality at 1, 3, 5, and 10 years. Conclusion: Elevated NLR is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular and all-cause mortality, and NLR may independently predict outcomes in individuals with hypertension.

Macrophages play a critical role in innate immunity, with approximately 90% of the total macrophage population in the human body residing in the liver. This population encompasses both resident and infiltrating macrophages. Recent studies highlight the pivotal role of liver macrophages in various aspects such as liver inflammation, regeneration, and immune regulation. A novel pro-inflammatory programmed cell death, pyroptosis, initially identified in macrophages, has garnered substantial attention since its discovery. Studies investigating pyroptosis and inflammation progression have particularly centered around macrophages. In liver diseases, pyroptosis plays an important role in driving the inflammatory response, facilitating the fibrotic process, and promoting tumor progression. Notably, the role of macrophage pyroptosis cannot be understated. This review primarily focuses on the role of macrophage pyroptosis in liver diseases. Additionally, it underscores the therapeutic potential inherent in targeting macrophage pyroptosis.

SPOC teaching effectively integrates online and traditional education, significantly enhancing the quality of basic education. In this study, we first conducted a 6-week teaching practice of SPOC mode, and then constructed an acceptance analysis model of SPOC teaching mode in foreign language courses in colleges and universities on the basis of UTAUT, defined the variables and measurement dimensions, and put forward four research hypotheses. A questionnaire is conducted for the students who use SPOC mode foreign language classroom in a university, and the relevant data obtained are subjected to exploratory factor analysis to construct the structural equation model that affects the acceptance. The research hypotheses were tested, and it was concluded that the p-values of the four paths were less than 0.010, with significant correlation, and all the paths showed positive and significant correlation, except for the significant negative correlation between effort expectation and intention to use. This study aims to conduct deeper research on the integration of the English SPOC teaching model to effectively and efficiently enhance students’ interest in learning foreign languages.

The contamination of mycotoxin in food has posed a serious threat to human health and safety. Accurate detection of mycotoxins provides a strong guarantee for food safety. Aptamers with excellent recognition capacity to mycotoxins have gained growing attention because of their high binding affinity, high specificity and low cost. They are commonly generated by an in vitro selection procedure called SELEX. However, the existing performance of mycotoxin aptamers are not good enough in complex food matrix, and the success rate of SELEX still need to be improved. The employment of efficient SELEX strategies for the generation of better mycotoxin aptamers is significantly important. This article has reviewed different SELEX approaches conducted for mycotoxin aptamer generation. Furthermore, the properties of various mycotoxin aptamers have been discussed. Finally, challenges and future considerations for mycotoxin aptamer selection are summarized, and their strengths and limitations in food safety application are highlighted.

Abstract Background Hypertension is a risk factor for cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). The effect of anti-hypertensive drugs on the prognosis of CCA is not clear. Methods This is a retrospective study of 102 patients (56.9% males, median age 66 years) diagnosed with CCA and hypertension concurrently and received radical surgery (R0), with a median follow-up of 36.7 months. Kaplan-Meier analysis, Cox regressions, and propensity score (PS) matching were applied for statistical analysis. Results Results of multivariable cox analysis showed that renin-angiotensin system inhibitors (RASis) usage was a protective factor for progression-free survival (PFS) (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.55, 95% confidence interval [95% CI]: 0.32–0.96) and overall survival (OS) (HR = 0.40, 95% CI: 0.20–0.79), respectively. Calcium channel blockers, diuretics, and β-blockers didn’t show significant associations. The association of RASis usage and PFS and OS was derived by PS matching, with a cohort of 28 RASis users and 56 RASis non-users. The median PFS and OS of RASis users (PFS, 17.6 months (9.2–34.4); OS, 24.8 months (16.5–42.3)) were longer than RASis non-users (PFS, 10.5 months (4.1–24.1); OS, 14.6 months (10.6–28.4)). The 1 year, 2 years, and 3 years’ survival rates of RASis users (89.1%, 77.0%, and 65.5%) were higher than RASis non-users (70.9%, 54.0%, and 40.0%). Conclusions RASis usage improves the survival of patients with CCA and hypertension concurrently.

Background: Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is a multifactorial disorder with potential links to various physiological systems, including the cardiovascular system via blood lipid levels such as triglycerides (TG). This study investigates the causal relationship between TG levels and SNHL using Mendelian randomization (MR), which offers a method to reduce confounding and reverse causality by using genetic variants as instrumental variables. Methods: Utilizing publicly available genome-wide association study (GWAS) data, we performed a two-sample MR analysis. The initial analysis unveiled a causal relationship between TG (GWAS ID: ebi-a-GCST90018975) and SNHL (GWAS ID: finn b-H8_HL_SEN-NAS). Subsequent analysis validated this through MR with a larger sample size for TG (GWAS ID: ieu-b-111) and SNHL. To conduct the MR analysis, we utilized several methods including inverse-variance weighted (IVW), MR Egger, weighted median, and weighted mode. We also employed Cochrane’s Q test to identify any heterogeneity in the MR results. To detect horizontal pleiotropy, we conducted the MR-Egger intercept test and MR pleiotropy residual sum and outliers (MR-PRESSO) test. We performed a leave-one-out analysis to assess the sensitivity of this association. Finally, a meta-analysis of the MR results was undertaken. Results: Our study found a significant positive correlation between TG and SNHL, with OR values of 1.14 (95% CI: 1.07–1.23, p < 0.001) in the IVW analysis and 1.09 (95% CI: 1.03–1.16, p < 0.006) in the replicate analysis. We also found no evidence of horizontal pleiotropy or heterogeneity between the genetic variants (p > 0.05), and a leave-one-out test confirmed the stability and robustness of this association. The meta-analysis combining the initial and replicate analyses showed a significant causal effect with OR values of 1.11 (95% CI: 1.06–1.16, p = 0.01). Conclusion: These findings indicate TG as a risk factor for SNHL, suggesting potential pathways for prevention and intervention in populations at risk. This conclusion underscores the importance of managing TG levels as a strategy to mitigate the risk of developing SNHL.

In order to solve the problem of image boundary segmentation caused by the irregularity of paddy fields in southern China, a high-precision segmentation method based on the improved MultiResUNet model for paddy field mapping is proposed, combining the characteristics of paddy field scenes. We introduce the attention gate (AG) mechanism at the end of the encoder–decoder skip connections in the MultiResUNet model to generate the weights and highlight the response of the field ridge area, add an atrous spatial pyramid pooling (ASPP) module after the end of the encoder down-sampling, use an appropriate combination of expansion rates to improve the identification of small-scale edge details, use 1 × 1 convolution to improve the range of the sensory field after bilinear interpolation to increase the segmentation accuracy, and, thus, construct the AM-UNet paddy field ridge segmentation model. The experimental results show that the IoU, precision, and F1 value of the AM-UNet model are 88.74%, 93.45%, and 93.95%, respectively, and that inference time for a single image is 168ms, enabling accurate and real-time segmentation of field ridges in a complex paddy field environment. Thus, the AM-UNet model can provide technical support for the development of vision-based automatic navigation systems for agricultural machines.

Geological observation and thermal simulation experiments have revealed that the peak period of hydrocarbon generation of gypsum-bearing mudstone is often advanced in sedimentary basins, but the correlation between the amount of advance and the content of gypsum is still not clear. In this study, the source rock powder samples with different gypsum content in the Lower Ganchaigou Formation from well S49-1 in the western Qaidam Basin were selected and extracted to remove soluble organic matter (SOM). Part of the extracted residue was pickled to remove carbonate. Rock pyrolysis analysis was performed on the original samples and the solid residue after two-step pretreatment. Compared to the Tmax of original samples, the Tmax was higher in the SOM-free residue but lower in the SOM-free and carbonate-free residue, showing that SOM and sulfate minerals (gypsum and anhydrite) in gypsum-bearing mudstone can promote the thermal evolution of organic matter. Although the latter has a more significant effect, it is not proportional to its sulfate content, indicating that the contact area of sulfate minerals and organic matter is more important to Tmax. The hypothesis was verified by the Tmax values of different proportions of kerogen and magnesium sulfate powder mixtures. Therefore, the occurrence state of sulfate minerals will directly affect the contact relationship between organic matter and sulfate, which in turn will affect the process of hydrocarbon generation in thermal evolution.

Objective: Intra-individual variability (IIV) in cognitive performance is thought to reflect the efficiency with which attentional resources are allocated in different circumstances requiring cognitive control. IIV in cognitive performance is associated with the strength of the negative correlation between task-positive network and default mode network (DMN) activity. In this study, we investigated the impact of sleep deprivation (SD) on functional connectivity (FC) between the DMN and psychomotor vigilance task-related network (PVT-RN), and its relationship with IIV in cognitive performance. Methods: Two analyses, network-level independent component analysis (NL-ICA) and region-level (RL)-ICA, were employed to compare the coefficient of variation (CV) of the PVT between normal sleep and SD conditions across 67 healthy participants. Results: After SD, in NL-ICA, the FC between the PVT-RN and DMN was positively correlated with the CV of the PVT, as well as the changes therein, compared with normal sleep. Using a mask derived from the DMN and PVT-RN, the RL-ICA revealed that 12 edges/connections between DMN and PVT independent components were associated with the CV of the PVT, with nine of these connections involving the precuneus. Conclusions: These findings suggest that the precuneus may play a crucial role in the interactions of various brain functions during the PVT, with the connections between the precuneus and frontoparietal and somatosensory networks being significantly altered after SD. Moreover, following SD, weakened negative FC between the precuneus and bilateral inferior parietal lobule may disrupt the balance between cognitive and executive control functions, leading to a decline in cognitive performance.

ABSTRACTWe designed and developed a novel DNA topoisomerase I inhibitor MF-6, which was a more potent cytotoxin and a more potent inducer of immunogenic cell death compared with DXd. To utilize MF-6’s ability to induce antitumor immunity, a human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-targeted antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) trastuzumab-L6 that included a cleavable linker and MF-6 was developed. Different from traditional cytotoxic ADC, the antitumor activity of trastuzumab-L6 was assessed by inducing tumor cell immunogenic cell death, activating dendritic cells and cytotoxic CD8+ T cells to acquire durable adaptive immune memory. Tumor cells treated with trastuzumab-L6 were committed to immunogenic cell death, with upregulation of damage-associated molecular patterns and antigen presentation molecules. In a syngeneic tumor model with a mouse cell line that expressed human HER2, immunocompetent mice showed greater antitumor efficacy compared with nude mice. The trastuzumab-L6-cured immunocompetent mice acquired adaptive antitumor memory and rejected subsequent tumor cell challenge. The trastuzumab-L6 efficacy was abrogated when cytotoxic CD8+ T cells were depleted and enhanced when regulatory CD4+ T cells were depleted. The combination of trastuzumab-L6 with immune checkpoint inhibitors significantly increased antitumor efficacy. Enhanced T cell infiltration, dendritic cell activation, and decreased type M2 macrophages in tumor post trastuzumab-L6 administration confirmed the immune-activating responses. In conclusion, trastuzumab-L6 was considered to be an immunostimulatory agent, rather than a traditional cytotoxic ADC, and its antitumor efficacy was enhanced when combined with an anti-PD-L1 and anti-CTLA-4 antibody, which suggested a potential therapeutic strategy.

BackgroundThe impact of inflammatory factors on the development of Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) is widely recognized, but the exact causal relationship remains unclear.MethodsThe bidirectional mendelian-randomization study utilized genetic data from a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of 186 AS cases and 456,162 controls of European ancestry. Inflammatory cytokines were obtained from a GWAS summary of 8,293 healthy participants. Causal associations were primarily investigated using the inverse variance-weighted method, supplemented by MR Egger, weighted median and weighted mode analyses. Heterogeneity in the results was assessed using the Cochrane Q test. Horizontal pleiotropy was evaluated through the MR-Egger intercept test and the MR pleiotropy residual sum and outliers (MR-PRESSO) test. Sensitivity analysis was conducted through leave-one-out analysis.ResultsThe results suggest a genetically predicted potential association between beta-nerve growth factor (βNGF), Interleukin-1-beta (IL-1β), and TNF-related apoptosis inducing ligand (TRAIL) with the risk of AS (OR: 2.17, 95% CI: 1.13-4.16; OR: 0.41, 95% CI: 0.18-0.95,; OR: 1.47, 95% CI: 1.02-2.13).Additionally, Interleukin-12p70 (IL-12p70), Interleukin-17 (IL-17), Interleukin-6 (IL-6), Interleukin-4 (IL-4), Stromal-cell-derived factor 1 alpha (SDF−1α), Macrophage inflammatory protein 1β (MIP1β), Monocyte chemoattractant protein-3 (MCP-3), Platelet-derived growth factor bb (PDGFbb), Granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (GCSF), Fibroblast growth factor basic (bFGF), TNF-related apoptosis inducing ligand (TRAIL), and Interferon-gamma (IFN -γ) are suggested as consequences of AS in genetically prediction.No evidence of horizontal pleiotropy or heterogeneity between the genetic variants was found (P>0.05), and a leave-one-out test confirmed the stability and robustness of this association.ConclusionThese findings suggest that βNGF, IL-1β, and TRAIL may play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of AS. Additionally, AS may impact the expression of cytokines such as IL-12p70, IL-17, IL-6, IL-4, SDF−1α, MIP1β, MCP-3, PDGFbb,GCSF, bFGF,TRAIL,and IFN-γ. Further investigations are warranted to determine whether these biomarkers can be utilized for the prevention or treatment of AS.

Electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings often contain artifacts that would lower signal quality. Many efforts have been made to eliminate or at least minimize the artifacts, and most of them rely on visual inspection and manual operations, which is time/labor-consuming, subjective, and incompatible to filter massive EEG data in real-time. In this paper, we proposed a deep learning framework named Artifact Removal Wasserstein Generative Adversarial Network (AR-WGAN), where the well-trained model can decompose input EEG, detect and delete artifacts, and then reconstruct denoised signals within a short time. The proposed approach was systematically compared with commonly used denoising methods including Denoised AutoEncoder, Wiener Filter, and Empirical Mode Decomposition, with both public and self-collected datasets. The experimental results proved the promising performance of AR-WGAN on automatic artifact removal for massive data across subjects, with correlation coefficient up to 0.726±0.033, and temporal and spatial relative root-mean-square error as low as 0.176±0.046 and 0.761±0.046, respectively. This work may demonstrate the proposed AR-WGAN as a high-performance end-to-end method for EEG denoising, with many on-line applications in clinical EEG monitoring and brain-computer interfaces.

Nowadays, the demand for advanced functional materials in transducer technology is growing rapidly. Piezoelectric materials transform mechanical variables (displacement or force) into electrical signals (charge or voltage) and vice versa. They are interesting from both fundamental and application points of view. Ferrooelectrets (also called piezoelectrets) are a relatively young group of piezo-, pyro- and ferroelectric materials. They exhibit ferroic behavior phenomenologically undistinguishable from that of traditional ferroelectrics, although the materials per se are essentially non-polar space-charge electrets with artificial macroscopic dipoles (i.e., internally charged cavities). A lot of work has been done on ferroelectrets and their applications up to now. In this paper, we review and discuss mostly the work done at University of Potsdam on the research and development of ferroelectrets. We will, however, also mention important results from other teams, and prospect the challenges and future progress trend of the field of ferroelectret research.

Introduction: Bidirectional transmission of information is needed to realize a closed-loop human-machine interaction (HMI), where electrophysiological signals are recorded for man-machine control and electrical stimulations are used for machine-man feedback. As a neural interface (NI) connecting man and machine, electrodes play an important role in HMI and their characteristics are critical for information transmission.Methods: In this work, we fabricated a kind of microneedle array electrodes (MAEs) by using a magnetization-induced self-assembly method, where microneedles with a length of 500–600 μm and a tip diameter of ∼20 μm were constructed on flexible substrates. Part of the needle length could penetrate through the subjects’ stratum corneum and reach the epidermis, but not touch the dermis, establishing a safe and direct communication pathway between external electrical circuit and internal peripheral nervous system.Results: The MAEs showed significantly lower and more stable electrode-skin interface impedance than the metal-based flat array electrodes (FAEs) in various testing scenarios, demonstrating their promising impedance characteristics. With the stable microneedle structure, MAEs exhibited an average SNR of EMG that is more than 30% higher than FAEs, and a motion-intention classification accuracy that is 10% higher than FAEs. The successful sensation evoking demonstrated the feasibility of the MAE-based electrical stimulation for sensory feedback, where a variety of natural and intuitive feelings were generated in the subjects and thereafter objectively verified through EEG analysis.Discussion: This work confirms the application potential of MAEs working as an effective NI, in both electrophysiological recording and electrical stimulation, which may provide a technique support for the development of HMI.

In view of the limitations of directional drilling technology and equipment for underground gas drainage in coal mining areas, such as low degree of automation, low drilling ratio of target formation, slow drilling rate of rock formation, and small diameter, the research of rotary geosteering drilling technology and equipment underground coal mine has been carried out, with the core technical problems has overcame such as wireless remote control operation of directional drilling rigs, mechanically automatic drill pipe addition, real-time parameter monitoring and fault diagnosis, coal and rock identification while drilling, and trajectory rotation control, ZDY25000LDK electro-hydraulic controlled directional drilling rig, BLY800/12 mud pump truck with high-pressure and large-volume, YSG(A) Mine geosteering MWD system by dynamic azimuth gamma, ϕ133 mm hydraulic push type rotary steering drilling system and supporting drilling tools have developed, with the maximum torque was 25 000 N·m, the automatically add drill pipe time was less than 55s of the directional drilling rig, the rated flow was 800 L/min of the mud pump truck, the natural gamma measurement error was less than ±5% and the stratum exploration distance was ≥0.5 m of the geosteering MWD system, the applicable speed range was 80−200 r/min and the deflection force was 1.4 t of the rotary steerable drilling system; geosteering drilling technology and rotary steerable drilling technology for near horizontal hole has developed with the technical characteristics and process flow are introduced in detail. The field test was carried out in Tangjiahui Coal Mine in Inner Mongolia. 4 directional drillings were completed, with the maximum drilling depth was 820 m, the total footage was 2 419 m, the directional drilling diameter was 172 mm, the drilling efficiency was increased 25% in coal seam and 30% in rock, which realized the directional drilling from “geometric steering” to “rotary geosteering” underground coal mine, the intelligent level and drilling trajectory quality of underground directional drilling in coal mine has been improved, and provided technical equipment support for efficient underground gas drainage and intelligent mine construction.

Abstract This study aimed to examine the impact of childhood maltreatment on callous-unemotional (CU) traits among incarcerated male adolescents, focusing primarily on the roles of parental attachment and emotional intelligence. A total of 454 male incarcerated adolescents from two juvenile correctional facilities, ranging in age from 14 to 18 years, completed a set of questionnaires consisting of a childhood trauma questionnaire, parent-attachment scale, emotional intelligence scale, and the Inventory of CU traits. The results revealed that childhood maltreatment, parental attachment, and emotional intelligence were all correlated with CU traits. Structural equation modeling analysis and the bootstrap test indicated that parental attachment and emotional intelligence mediated, in part, the effect of childhood maltreatment on CU traits. These findings expand the outcomes of previous research and shed light on how childhood maltreatment is related to CU traits.

ObjectiveIn order to reduce the switching frequency of an intermediate frequency inverter power supply, ensure the quality of the output waveform and realize digitalization easily, a SPWM sampling method based on a tangent-secant midpoint approximation is proposed. MethodsIt is proven by deduction that the quantitative relationship of the natural sampling method can be approximated, and a Matlab/Simulink simulation model is built. The algorithm is designed and applied to an intermediate frequency inverter device, and the correctness of the proposed method is verified in the two aspects of simulation and experiment. ResultsThe simulation results show that the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the output waveform based on the tangent-secant midpoint approximation method is 2.64%, lower than the 3.99% of the symmetrical regular sampling method. The waveform quality of the tangent-secant midpoint approximation method is obviously better than that of the symmetrical regular sampling method, as it not only reduces the switching frequency but also takes into account the requirements of THD. ConclusionsSPWM sampling based on tangent-secant midpoint approximation is applied to the intermediate frequency power supply and is able to effectively overcome the shortcomings of the low-quality output waveform and high switching frequency of the symmetrical regular sampling method. Both theoretical analysis and engineering practice verify the rationality and correctness of the proposed method, and it can be widely extended to the field of intermediate frequency power supply installation.

Xinguan No. 3 has been recommended for the treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19); however, its potential mechanisms are unclear. This study aims to explore the mechanisms of Xinguan No. 3 against COVID-19 through network pharmacology and molecular docking. We first searched the ingredients of Xinguan No. 3 in three databases (Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform, Traditional Chinese Medicines Integrated Database, and The Encyclopedia of Traditional Chinese Medicine). The active components and their potential targets were predicted through the SwissTargetPrediction website. The targets of COVID-19 can be found on the GeneCards website. Protein interaction analysis, screening of key targets, functional enrichment of key target genes, and signaling pathway analysis were performed through Search Tool for the Retrieval of Interacting Genes databases, Metascape databases, and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway databases. Finally, the affinity of the key active components with the core targets was verified by molecular docking. The results showed that five core targets had been screened, including MAPK1, NF-κB1, RELA, AKT1, and MAPK14. Gene ontology enrichment analysis revealed that the key targets were associated with inflammatory responses and responses to external stimuli. KEGG enrichment analysis indicated that the main pathways were influenza A, hepatitis B, Toll-like receptor signaling pathway, NOD-like receptor signaling pathway, and TNF signaling pathway. Therefore, Xinguan No. 3 might play a role in treating COVID-19 through anti-inflammatory, immune responses, and regulatory responses to external stimuli.

Background:The atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), determined by the logarithmic transformation of the ratio of triglyceride (TG) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), was found to be a marker of cardiovascular disease. We sought to investigate the correlation between the atherogenic AIP and coronary collateral circulation (CCC) formation in chronic total occlusive (CTOs) patients. Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 665 non-CTOs and 345 CTOs patients. CTOs were divided into 206 CCC poor formation patients and 139 CCC good formation patients according to the Cohen-Rentrop grade. Spearman correlation analysis was carried out to obtain the relationship between AIP and the Rentrop grade. We used multivariate logistic regression analysis to assess CTOs and CCC poor formation risk factors. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to determine the optimal threshold for AIP to predict CTOs and CCC poor formation. The predicted increment of AIP on CTOs and CCC poor formation was evaluated by calculating the Net Reclassification Index (NRI) and the Integrated Discriminant Index (IDI). Results: AIP in CTOs was significantly elevated compared to non-CTOs patients [(1.55 (1.02, 2.59)) vs (1.26 (0.82, 1.90)), p < 0.001] AIP in the CCC poor formation group was significantly higher than that in the CCC good formation group [(1.73 (1.12, 2.90)) vs (1.37 (0.84, 2.13)), p = 0.002]. There was a negative correlation between AIP and the Rentrop grade (r = –0.145, p = 0.007). The results of multivariate logistic regression revealed that AIP was an independent predictor of CTOs (OR = 4.371, 95% CI: 2.436–7.844, p < 0.001) and CCC poor formation (OR = 3.749, 95% CI: 1.628–8.635, p = 0.002). In the ROC analysis, the area under the curve of AIP for identifying CTOs and CCC poor formation was 0.596 (OR = 3.680, 95% CI: 1.490–9.090, p = 0.005) and 0.597 (95% CI: 0.535–0.658, p = 0.002), respectively. Conclusions: Contrary to previous research, we found that AIP is a moderate but not powerful indicator for detecting both CTO patients and poor CCC formation.

Rumination is closely related to mental disorders and can thus be used as a marker of their presence or a predictor of their development. The presence of masking and fabrication in psychological selection can lead to inaccurate detection of psychological disorders. Human language is considered crucial in eliciting specific conscious activities, and the use of natural language processing (NLP) in the development of questionnaires for psychological tests has the potential to elicit immersive ruminative thinking, leading to changes in neural activity. Electroencephalography (EEG) is commonly used to detect and record neural activity in the human brain and is sensitive to changes in brain activity. In this study, we used NLP to develop a questionnaire to induce ruminative thinking and then recorded the EEG signals in response to the questionnaire. The behavioral results revealed that ruminators exhibited higher arousal rates and longer reaction times, specifically in response to the ruminative items of the questionnaire. The EEG results showed no significant difference between the ruminators and the control group during the resting state; however, a significant alteration in the coherence of the entire brain of the ruminators existed while they were answering the ruminative items. No differences were found in the control participants while answering the two items. These behavioral and EEG results indicate that the questionnaire elicited immersive ruminative thinking, specifically in the ruminators. Therefore, the questionnaire designed using NLP is capable of eliciting ruminative thinking in ruminators, offering a promising approach for the early detection of mental disorders in psychological selection.

IntroductionWith the COVID-19 pandemic in China, a large number of mild or ordinary confirmed cases have been sent to Fangcang shelter hospitals for treatment. We aimed to investigate the mental health condition of Fangcang patients 2 years after the pandemic when patients knew more about COVID-19 and the virus was less virulent. We focused on the effect of dysfunctional beliefs and attitudes about sleep on depression, anxiety, and insomnia.MethodsA total of 1,014 patients from two large Fangcang shelter hospitals in Shanghai between 22 April and 8 May 2022 completed a set of questionnaires comprising: the Dysfunctional Beliefs and Attitudes about Sleep scale, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale, the Patient Health Questionnaire, and the Insomnia Severity Index scale.ResultsResults show that the positive screening rates for anxiety, depression, and insomnia among tested patients were 55.3, 27.0, and 47.8%, respectively. Patients were more likely to report higher anxiety, depression, and insomnia, and to endorse affective and sleep disorders if they were: female, aged 18–40 years, with undergraduate course or above, white-collar employees, or those who thought the pandemic would have severe economic effects. About 51.4% of the participants had dysfunctional beliefs about sleep to varying degrees. Compared with patients who had accurate beliefs about sleep, the ratios of insomnia, anxiety, and depression were significantly higher among patients with dysfunctional beliefs about sleep.DiscussionAttention should be paid to the mental health problems of patients in Fangcang shelter hospitals. The results indicate that dysfunctional beliefs about sleep significantly increased anxiety, depression, and insomnia of Fangcang patients.

The purpose of this trial was to study the positive effects of bile acids (BAs) on growth performance and intestinal health of rice field eel fed with high-lipid diets (HLDs). Rice field eels (initial weight 17.00 ± 0.10 g) were divided into four groups, each group containing four repetitions and feeding with different isonitrogenous diet: control diet containing 7% lipid content, HLDs containing the lipid content increased to 13%, HLDs supplementing with 0.025% BAs and 0.05% BAs, respectively. After 8 weeks, compared control group, the fish fed HLDs had no significant effect on weight gain rate and specific growth rate (P>0.05), but increased the lipid deposition in tissues and intestinal lipase activity, and damaged to intestinal oxidative stress, inflammatory response, physical barrier, and structural integrity (P

The aim of this trial was to investigate the effects of apple polyphenols (AP) and taurine (TA) on the growth performance, tissue morphology, and lipid and glucose metabolism in rice field eel fed diets with high oxidized fish oil (OFO). A 10-week feeding experiment was conducted using juveniles (initial body weight 16.66 ± 0.02 g) fed five different diets. Three diets were formulated with various levels of OFO at 9.5, 600, and 800 meq·kg−1 and named as Control, POV600, and POV800 diet, respectively. The other two diets were POV600 and POV800 supplemented with 0.5% AP and 0.2% TA, respectively. Compared to the Control group, only the eels fed POV800 exhibited an increase in weight gain and specific growth rate along with a reduction in feed conversion ratio. AP and TA did not affect growth performance; juveniles fed AP, however, showed a decrease in liver weight. Both POV600 and POV800 decreased nuclei number and increased vacuoles size in the liver. POV800 damaged the intestinal structure integrity and reduced goblet cells number. AP repaired the liver damage on nuclei number and vacuoles size in fish fed with POV600 diet, while TA mitigated intestinal histopathological damage on intact structure and goblet cells number. The mRNA expression level of liver ampkα in fish fed AP was upregulated, while dietary TA upregulated the mRNA expression levels of liver ampkα and accα. In the muscle, POV600 downregulated mRNA expression levels of accα, cpt1, and lipin, whereas POV800 upregulated mRNA expression levels of accα, pparα, and lipin. Dietary AP and TA could counteract the effects of POV600 and POV800 diet on muscle lipid metabolism. Both POV600 and POV800 diets upregulated mRNA expression levels of liver pck1 and gsk3α. AP and TA both downregulated mRNA expression level of liver pck1, while only TA downregulated the expression of liver gsk3α. AP increased the mRNA expression level of gsk3α in muscle. In summary, inclusion of AP and TA did not affect growth performance but showed a potential to alleviate liver or intestinal damages induced by a high OFO diet. Dietary AP and TA were also found to regulate mRNA expression of genes related to lipid and glucose metabolism.

The human brain comprises a large-scale structural network of regions and interregional pathways, including a selectively defined set of highly central and interconnected hub regions, often referred to as the “rich club”, which may play a pivotal role in the integrative processes of the brain. A quintessential symptom of schizophrenia, auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) have shown a decrease in severity following low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS). However, the underlying mechanism of rTMS in treating AVH remains elusive. This study investigated the effect of low-frequency rTMS on the rich-club organization within the brain in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia who experience AVH using diffusion tensor imaging data. Through by constructing structural connectivity networks, we identified several critical rich hub nodes, which constituted a rich-club subnetwork, predominantly located in the prefrontal cortices. Notably, our findings revealed enhanced connection strength and density within the rich-club subnetwork following rTMS treatment. Furthermore, we found that the decreased connectivity within the subnetwork components, including the rich-club subnetwork, was notably enhanced in patients following rTMS treatment. In particular, the increased connectivity strength of the right median superior frontal gyrus, which functions as a critical local bridge, with the right postcentral gyrus exhibited a significant correlation with improvements in both positive symptoms and AVH. These findings provide valuable insights into the role of rTMS in inducing reorganizational changes within the rich-club structural network in schizophrenia and shed light on potential mechanisms through which rTMS may alleviate AVH.

Inertial navigation system (INS) is widely used as inclinometer in coal drilling rig to realize navigation and attitude measurement. Vibration of coal drilling rig is one of the significant issues impacting the performance of alignment. Previous work has indicated that part of alignment error caused by vibration of gyroscope can be suppressed by inertial alignment frame. However, vibration error of accelerometer cannot be well suppressed. In this paper, an inertial alignment based on improved empirical mode decomposition (EMD) filter is proposed to address vibration issue in alignment. Moreover, a prediction strategy of extreme endpoints based on relativity of extreme points is proposed to reduce the endpoint error to suppress the accumulative error in EMD filter. The proposed alignment method is applied in laboratory condition. The result shows that the stability of accelerometer improves 42.43% at most, the alignment time reduce from 300 to 100 s and the alignment error of inclination angle is less than 5.4 arcmin. The experiment in coal mining rig shows the alignment time reduces from 300 to 50 s. The proposed alignment method improves the performance of inclinometer effectively and feasibly in alignment period and the improved EMD filter can be also applied in navigation period to suppress the vibration error of accelerometer.

The phenomenon of intestinal dysfunction is widely observed in white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) culture, and β-1,3-glucan has been confirmed to be beneficial in intestinal health with a lack understanding of its underlying mechanism. Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Actinobacteria served as the predominant phyla inhabiting the intestine of white shrimp, whilst a significant variation in their proportion was recorded in shrimp fed with basal and β-1,3-glucan supplementation diets in this study. Dietary supplementation of β-1,3-glucan could dramatically increase the microbial diversity and affect microbial composition, concurrent with a notable reduction in the ratio of opportunistic pathogen Aeromonas, gram-negative microbes, from Gammaproteobacteria compared to the basal diet group. The benefits for microbial diversity and composition by β-1,3-glucan improved the homeostasis of intestinal microbiota through the increase of specialists’ number and inhibition of microbial competition caused by Aeromonas in ecological networks; afterward, the inhibition of Aeromonas by β-1,3-glucan diet dramatically suppressed microbial metabolism related to lipopolysaccharide biosynthesis, followed by a conspicuous decrease in the intestinal inflammatory response. The improvement of intestinal health referred to the elevation in intestinal immune and antioxidant capacity, ultimately contributing to the growth of shrimp fed β-1,3-glucan. These results suggested that β-1,3-glucan supplementation improved the intestinal health of white shrimp through the modulation of intestinal microbiota homeostasis, the suppression of intestinal inflammatory response, and the elevation of immune and antioxidant capacity, and subsequently promoted the growth of white shrimp.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to examine the impact of sleep quality on occupational well-being in employees by primarily focusing on the mediating role of occupational self-efficacy.MethodsA total of 487 junior staff completed a set of questionnaires comprised Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scale, Occupational Self-efficacy Scale, and occupational well-being measurements.ResultsThe results revealed that both sleep quality and occupational self-efficacy were significantly correlated with occupational well-being. The structural equation modeling analysis and the bootstrap test indicated that occupational self-efficacy partially mediated the effect of poor sleep quality on occupational well-being.DiscussionThese findings expand upon existing research on the relationship between sleep quality and well-being among occupational workers, shed light on the correlation of poor sleep quality with occupational well-being, and are valuable in promoting the occupational well-being of employees.

BackgroundAuditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) are a core symptom of schizophrenia. Low-frequency (e.g., 1 Hz) repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) targeting language processing regions (e.g., left TPJ) has been evident as a potential treatment for AVH. However, the underlying neural mechanisms of the rTMS treatment effect remain unclear. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of 1 Hz rTMS on functional connectivity (FC) of the temporoparietal junction area (TPJ) seed with the whole brain in schizophrenia patients with AVH.MethodsUsing a single-blind placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial, 55 patients with AVH were randomly divided into active treatment group (n = 30) or placebo group (n = 25). The active treatment group receive 15-day 1 Hz rTMS stimulation to the left TPJ, whereas the placebo group received sham rTMS stimulation to the same site. Resting-state fMRI scans and clinical measures were acquired for all patients before and after treatment. The seed-based (left TPJ) static and DFC was used to assess the connectivity characteristics during rTMS treatment in patients with AVH.ResultsOverall, symptom improvement following 1 Hz rTMS treatment was found in the active treatment group, whereas no change occurred in the placebo group. Moreover, decreased static FC (SFC) of the left TPJ with the right temporal lobes, as well as increased SFC with the prefrontal cortex and subcortical structure were observed in active rTMS group. Increased dynamic FC (DFC) of the left TPJ with frontoparietal areas was also found in the active rTMS group. However, seed-based SFC and DFC were reduced to a great extent in the placebo group. In addition, these changed FC (SFC) strengths in the active rTMS group were associated with reduced severity of clinical outcomes (e.g., positive symptoms).ConclusionThe application of 1 Hz rTMS over the left TPJ may affect connectivity characteristics of the targeted region and contribute to clinical improvement, which shed light on the therapeutic effect of rTMS on schizophrenia with AVH.

Synergetic recovery of both somatosensory and motor functions is highly desired by limb amputees to fully regain their lost limb abilities. The commercially available prostheses can restore the lost motor function in amputees but lack intuitive sensory feedback. The previous studies showed that electrical stimulation on the arm stump would be a promising approach to induce sensory information into the nervous system, enabling the possibility of realizing sensory feedback in limb prostheses. However, there are currently limited studies on the effective evaluation of the sensations evoked by transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). In this paper, a multichannel TENS platform was developed and the different stimulus patterns were designed to evoke stable finger sensations for a transradial amputee. Electroencephalogram (EEG) was recorded simultaneously during TENS on the arm stump, which was utilized to evaluate the evoked sensations. The experimental results revealed that different types of sensations on three phantom fingers could be stably evoked for the amputee by properly selecting TENS patterns. The analysis of the event-related potential (ERP) of EEG recordings further confirmed the evoked sensations, and ERP latencies and curve characteristics for different phantom fingers showed significant differences. This work may provide insight for an in-depth understanding of how somatosensation could be restored in limb amputees and offer technical support for the applications of non-invasive sensory feedback systems.

Ratooning rice is an essential rice-planting method. However, mechanical harvesting of the primary rice crop, while increasing efficiency, can negatively affect the yield of ratooning rice. Therefore, it is crucial to find ways to improve the grain yield of ratooning rice after the mechanical harvest of the primary rice. A two-year field experiment was conducted; the grain yield of ratooning rice was assessed by stubble righting after mechanical harvesting of primary rice. The study used two popular rice cultivars, YLiangyou911 and Kenliangyou801, as experimental materials. The experimental treatments included three groups: one without righting after rolling rice stubble (CK), another with mechanized righting after rolling rice stubble (T1), and a third one without rolling rice stubble by the machine (T2). The results of the study demonstrate that stubble righting after the mechanical harvest of primary rice (T1) had a substantial impact on the grain yield of ratooning rice. It led to grain yields similar to ratooning rice without mechanical rolling of the rice stubble (T2) and significantly outperformed the treatment without stubble righting after the mechanical harvest of primary rice (CK). The study observed significant effects of the year of the experiment (Y), the treatment applied (T), and the interaction between year and treatment (Y×T) on grain yield. Additionally, the treatment showed a significant influence on the yield components. Specifically, in 2021, the T1 and T2 treatments showed remarkable grain yield increases in YLiangyou911 by 107.41% and 147.97%, respectively, compared to CK. For Kenliangyou801 in 2021, the T1 and T2 treatments also resulted in notable improvements in grain yield by 45.85% and 114.26%, respectively. Similarly, in 2022, the grain yield increased by 6.99% for T1 and 23.87% for T2 in YLiangyou911, and by 77.23% for T1 and 187.13% for T2 in Kenliangyou801, compared to CK. The study also detected enhancements in several aspects, including biomass accumulation, solar radiation and photosynthetic characteristics, antioxidant response and nitrogen metabolism, and bud-regeneration capacity due to T1 and T2 treatments. Furthermore, correlation analysis was conducted to assess the relationship between grain yield and the investigated parameters. In conclusion, stubble righting after the mechanical harvest of primary rice resulted in significantly improved grain yield for ratooning rice. This improvement can be attributed to enhanced biomass accumulation, solar radiation and photosynthetic characteristics, antioxidant response and nitrogen metabolism, and increased bud-regeneration capacity.

As a highly productive rice, ratoon rice is widely planted worldwide, but the rolling of rice stubble in mechanical harvesting severely limits its total yield; based on this, some scholars have proposed rolled rice stubble righting machines. However, limited by the uncertainty of the field environment, the machine’s localization accuracy of the target needs to be improved. To address this problem, real-time detection of rolled rice stubble rows is a prerequisite. Therefore, this paper introduces a deep learning method for the first time to achieve this. To this end, we presented a novel approach to improve a model that is used for the simplification of Mask R-CNN, which does not require any modules to be added or replaced on the original model. Firstly, two branches in the second stage were deleted, and the region proposals output from the stage was used directly as the mask generation region, and segmentation performance was substantially improved after a simple optimization of the region proposals. Further, the contribution of the feature map was counted, and the backbone network was simplified accordingly. The resulting SMR-RS model was still able to perform instance segmentation and has better segmentation performance than Mask R-CNN and other state-of-the-art models while significantly reducing the average image processing time and hardware consumption.

Background: This research analyses the relations between anxiety symptoms from the network perspective to deepen the understanding of anxiety in front-line medical staff during the COVID-19 pandemic and can also provide a reference for determining potential goals of clinical interventions. Methods: A convenience sampling was adopted, and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7) was administered to front-line medical staff through online platforms. A regularized partial correlation network of anxiety was constructed and then we evaluated its accuracy and stability. The expected influence and predictability were used to describe the relative importance and the controllability, using community detection to explore community structure. The gender-based differences and the directed acyclic graph were implemented. Results: The connections between A1 “Feeling nervous, anxious or on edge” and A2 “Not being able to stop or control worrying”, A6 “Becoming easily annoyed or irritable” and A7 “Feeling afraid as if something awful might happen”, etc., were relatively strong; A2 “Not being able to stop or control worrying” and A3 “Worrying too much about different things” had the highest expected influence, and A2 “Not being able to stop or control worrying” had the highest predictability. The community detection identified two communities. The results of the gender network comparison showed the overall intensity of the anxiety network in women was higher than that in men; DAG indicated that A2 “Not being able to stop or control worrying” had the highest probabilistic priority; the lines from A2 “Not being able to stop or control worrying” to A1 “Feeling nervous, anxious or on edge” and A2 “Not being able to stop or control worrying” to A7 “Feeling afraid as if something awful might happen” represented the most important arrows. Conclusion: There exist broad interconnections among anxiety symptoms of front-line medical staff on the GAD-7. A2 “Not being able to stop or control worrying” might be the core symptom and a potential effective intervention target. It was possible to bring an optimal result for the entire GAD symptom network by interfering with A2 “Not being able to stop or control worrying”. GAD may have two “subsystems”. The modes of interconnection among anxiety may be consistent between genders.

Job burnout is one of the most widespread mental problems in today’s society and seriously affects the mental health and combat effectiveness of soldiers and officers. Herein, the effect of burnout on individual attention is studied from the perspective of neuroelectrophysiology. A total of 1,155 army soldiers and officers were included in this investigation and completed the Job Burnout Scale for Military Personnel. A total of 42 soldiers and officers were randomly selected from those with and without burnout to participate in an event-related potential (ERP) study using a visual oddball task. The characteristics of visual P3a and P3b at Fz, FCz, Cz, CPz, and Pz were recorded and analyzed by repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA). P < 0.05 was the criterion for a significant difference. The total average score on the Job Burnout Scale for Military Personnel among the participants was 0.74 ± 0.46, and the detection rate of job burnout was 29.85%. In the Oddball task, the average number of target stimuli counted in the burnout group was lower than that in the control group, but no significant difference was found. For P3a, the Fz, FCz, Cz, CPz, and Pz amplitudes in the burnout group were significantly lower than those in the control group. The average amplitude of P3a evoked in the central parietal area was larger than that in the prefrontal area. For P3b, the amplitudes of the five electrodes in the burnout group were significantly lower than those in the control group. The average amplitude of P3b evoked in the parietal region was larger than those in the prefrontal and central parietal regions. A certain degree of job burnout is evident in army soldiers and officers. The voluntary attention and involuntary attention of individuals with burnout are both affected to some extent, as reflected by the lower amplitudes of P3a and P3b. The results suggest that P3a and P3b can be used as indicators to monitor cognitive neural function in soldiers and officers with burnout and can also be used as references for evaluating the effects of cognitive training and screening methods. In this study, ERP was used to research the attention ability of soldiers and officers with job burnout, and related issues were discussed from the aspects of the burnout results, behavioral results, ERP results, compensation effect of cognitive resources, application in the military field, limitations, and prospects.
