Purpose: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is one of the most common functional injuries observed in trauma patients. However, certain trauma medications may exacerbate renal injury. Therefore, the early detection of trauma-related AKI holds paramount importance in improving trauma prognosis. Methods: Qualified datasets were selected from public databases, and common differentially expressed genes related to trauma-induced AKI and hub genes were identified through enrichment analysis and the establishment of protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks. Additionally, the specificity of these hub genes was investigated using the sepsis dataset and conducted a comprehensive literature review to assess their plausibility. The raw data from both datasets were downloaded using R software (version 4.2.1) and processed with the ''affy'' package19 for correction and normalization. Results: Our analysis revealed 585 upregulated and 629 downregulated differentially expressed genes in the AKI dataset, along with 586 upregulated and 948 downregulated differentially expressed genes in the trauma dataset. Concurrently, the establishment of the PPI network and subsequent topological analysis highlighted key hub genes, including CD44, CD163, TIMP metallopeptidase inhibitor 1, cytochrome b-245 beta chain, versican, membrane spanning 4-domains A4A, mitogen-activated protein kinase 14, and early growth response 1. Notably, their receiver operating characteristic curves displayed areas exceeding 75%, indicating good diagnostic performance. Moreover, our findings postulated a unique molecular mechanism underlying trauma-related AKI. Conclusion: This study presents an alternative strategy for the early diagnosis and treatment of trauma-related AKI, based on the identification of potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Additionally, this study provides theoretical references for elucidating the mechanisms of trauma-related AKI.

As a challenge to avoid the strength-ductility trade-off for Ti alloys, strength and ductility are contradictory, especially at a high content of primary α phase. This study proposed a new strategy to evade this trade-off dilemma by designing an 81% primary α phase/ultrafine-grained (UFG) secondary α phase lamellar heterogeneous structure(LPSlow-HS) in near-α Ti alloys. Compared to the bimodal structure, the LPSlow-HS offers a remarkable increase in the ultimate tensile strength(1119 MPa) and yield strength(1069 MPa), respectively, while the elongation (15%) is not sacrificed. Owing to the strong heterogeneous deformation-induced(HDI) strengthening, more number of delamination of interfaces, UFG microstructures and strong strain hardening render the Ti alloys high strength. This strategy may provide a new approach for achieving higher HDI strengthening effects in heterogeneous structures (HS) under high soft phases, and offer a feasible method for producing high strength-ductility Ti alloys under high primary α phase.

Natural gas hydrates (NGH) are considered a very promising source of clean energy due to their widespread distribution, high energy density, and pure combustion products. Currently, there are few studies on NGH reservoir well testing, and the models are often idealistic, lacking practical guidance for field application. In this paper, a well-testing model for partially perforated wells in the NGH reservoir is proposed, which takes into account the dynamic decomposition of hydrates. This model can simulate the performance of the perforated NGH well with a dynamic dissociation interface, which divides the reservoir into decomposed and undecomposed regions. Governing equations in cylindrical coordinates are formulated to depict fluid flow. Moving boundaries and dissociation coefficients are incorporated to describe the solid-to-gas transition within hydrates. Analytical solutions including the pressure transient behaviors of the NGH reservoir and the bottomhole pressure (BHP) of partially perforated wells are derived by utilizing the Laplace transform method of the separation of variables and the Stehfest numerical inversion algorithm. Sensitivity analysis is conducted using the parameters from partially perforated wells and NGH formation properties. We plot the pressure and pressure derivative curves in double logarithmic coordinates to study the pressure transient behaviors. There are seven flow regimes that are typical for partially perforated wells in the NGH reservoir, namely, pure wellbore storage, skin effect, spherical flow, pseudo-radial flow, composite effect, improvement, and radial flow regimes.

The early diagnosis of cancer is vital for effective treatment and improved prognosis. Tumor biomarkers, which can be used for the early diagnosis, treatment, and prognostic evaluation of cancer, have emerged as a topic of intense research interest in recent years. Nucleic acid, as a type of tumor biomarker, contains vital genetic information, which is of great significance for the occurrence and development of cancer. Currently, living cell nucleic acid probes, which enable the in situ imaging and dynamic monitoring of nucleic acids, have become a rapidly developing field. This review focuses on living cell nucleic acid probes that can be used for the early diagnosis of tumors. We describe the fundamental design of the probe in terms of three units and focus on the roles of different nanomaterials in probe delivery.

Study region: The study region of this paper is the Wusuli River basin, which is comprised of nine sub-basins. The basin is located on the border between China and Russia. Study focus: We investigated the hydrological connectivity of the Wusuli River basin, an international boundary river that has received little attention. The spatial and temporal evolution of hydrological connectivity over the last 38 years was characterized using a geostatistical connectivity function combined with the remote sensing technique. In particular, some key sub-basins were identified to help strengthen China-Russian cooperation on ecological protection of the basin. New hydrological insights for the region: The results show that the hydrological connectivity in the northwestern region of the Wusuli River basin was unstable with several surges from 1984 to 2021. Analyzed from a temporal perspective, the effective range of hydrological connectivity is expanding and connectivity is showing an overall upward trend due to increased fluctuations in rainfall. Analyzed from a spatial perspective, the connectivity of the right bank of the Wusuli River is better than that of the left bank due to the influence of topography. Stable connectivity pathways are a must for efficient hydrological connectivity within a watershed. Another finding is that the capacity of the Wusuli River basin to resist extreme rainfall is weakening.

Abstract Objective To compare the outcomes of patients undergoing Retroperitoneal laparoscopic Radical nephrectomy (RLRN) and Transperitoneal laparoscopic Radical nephrectomy (TLRN). Methods A total of 120 patients with localized renal cell carcinoma were randomized into either RLRN or TLRN group. Mainly by comparing the patient perioperative related data, surgical specimen integrity, pathological results and tumor results. Results Each group comprised 60 patients. The two group were equivalent in terms of perioperative and pathological outcomes. The mean integrity score was significantly lower in the RLRN group than TLRN group. With a median follow-up of 36.4 months after the operation, Kaplan–Meier survival analysis showed no significant difference between RLRN and TLRN in overall survival (89.8% vs. 88.5%; P = 0.898), recurrence-free survival (77.9% vs. 87.7%; P = 0.180), and cancer-specific survival (91.4% vs. 98.3%; P = 0.153). In clinical T2 subgroup, the recurrence rate and recurrence-free survival in the RLRN group was significantly worse than that in the TLRN group (43.2% vs. 76.7%, P = 0.046). Univariate and multivariate COX regression analysis showed that RLRN (HR: 3.35; 95%CI: 1.12–10.03; P = 0.030), male (HR: 4.01; 95%CI: 1.07–14.99; P = 0.039) and tumor size (HR: 1.23; 95%CI: 1.01–1.51; P = 0.042) were independent risk factor for recurrence-free survival. Conclusions Our study showed that although RLRN versus TLRN had roughly similar efficacy, TLRN outperformed RLRN in terms of surgical specimen integrity. TLRN was also significantly better than RLRN in controlling tumor recurrence for clinical T2 and above cases. Abstract Background Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a disease state that has an unclear pathogenesis, imposes a substantial burden on individuals and society. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the most significant triggers of PTSD. Identifying biomarkers associated with TBI-related PTSD will help researchers to uncover the underlying mechanism that drives disease development. Furthermore, it remains to be confirmed whether different types of traumas share a common mechanism of action. Methods For this study, we screened the eligible data sets from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, obtained differentially expressed genes (DEGs) through analysis, conducted functional enrichment analysis on the DEGs in order to understand their molecular mechanisms, constructed a PPI network, used various algorithms to obtain hub genes, and finally evaluated, validated, and analyzed the diagnostic performance of the hub genes. Results A total of 430 upregulated and 992 down-regulated differentially expressed genes were extracted from the TBI data set. A total of 1919 upregulated and 851 down-regulated differentially expressed genes were extracted from the PTSD data set. Functional enrichment analysis revealed that the differentially expressed genes had biological functions linked to molecular regulation, cell signaling transduction, cell metabolic regulation, and immune response. After constructing a PPI network and introducing algorithm analysis, the upregulated hub genes were identified as VNN1, SERPINB2, and ETFDH, and the down-regulated hub genes were identified as FLT3LG, DYRK1A, DCN, and FKBP8. In addition, by comparing the data with patients with other types of trauma, it was revealed that PTSD showed different molecular processes that are under the influence of different trauma characteristics and responses. Conclusions By exploring the role of different types of traumas during the pathogenesis of PTSD, its possible molecular mechanisms have been revealed, providing vital information for understanding the complex pathways associated with TBI-related PTSD. The data in this study has important implications for the design and development of new diagnostic and therapeutic methods needed to treat and manage PTSD.

BackgroundBlood pressure (BP) is a key factor for the clinical outcomes of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) receiving endovascular thrombectomy (EVT). However, the effect of the circadian pattern of BP on functional outcome is unclear.MethodsThis multicenter, retrospective, observational study was conducted from 2016 to 2023 at three hospitals in China (ChiCTR2300077202). A total of 407 patients who underwent endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) and continuous 24-h BP monitoring were included. Two hundred forty-one cases from Beijing Hospital were allocated to the development group, while 166 cases from Peking University Shenzhen Hospital and Hainan General Hospital were used for external validation. Postoperative systolic BP (SBP) included daytime SBP, nighttime SBP, and 24-h average SBP. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO), support vector machine-recursive feature elimination (SVM-RFE), Boruta were used to screen for potential features associated with functional dependence defined as 3-month modified Rankin scale (mRS) score ≥ 3. Nine algorithms were applied for model construction and evaluated using area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy.ResultsThree hundred twenty-eight of 407 (80.6%) patients achieved successful recanalization and 182 patients (44.7%) were functional independent. NIHSS at onset, modified cerebral infarction thrombolysis grade, atrial fibrillation, coronary atherosclerotic heart disease, hypertension were identified as prognostic factors by the intersection of three algorithms to construct the baseline model. Compared to daytime SBP and 24-h SBP models, the AUC of baseline + nighttime SBP showed the highest AUC in all algorithms. The XGboost model performed the best among all the algorithms. ROC results showed an AUC of 0.841 in the development set and an AUC of 0.752 in the validation set for the baseline plus nighttime SBP model, with a brier score of 0.198.ConclusionThis study firstly explored the association between circadian BP patterns with functional outcome for AIS. Nighttime SBP may provide more clinical information regarding the prognosis of patients with AIS after EVT.

Abstract The neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NTLR) and absolute lymphocyte count (ALC) recovery are prognostic across many cancers. We investigated whether NLTR predicts SBRT success or survival in a metastatic sarcoma cohort treated with SBRT from 2014 and 2020 (N = 42). Wilcox Signed Rank Test and Friedman Test compare NTLR changes with local failure vs. local control (N = 138 lesions). Cox analyses identified factors associated with overall survival. If local control was successful, NLTR change was not significant (p = 0.30). However, NLTR significantly changed in patients with local failure (p = 0.027). The multivariable Cox model demonstrated higher NLTR before SBRT was associated with worse overall survival (p = 0.002). The optimal NTLR cut point was 5 (Youden index: 0.418). One-year overall survival in SBRT metastatic sarcoma cohort was 47.6% (CI 34.3%–66.1%). Patients with an NTLR above 5 had a one-year overall survival of 37.7% (21.4%–66.3%); patients with an NTLR below 5 had a significantly improved overall survival of 63% (43.3%–91.6%, p = 0.014). Since NTLR at the time of SBRT was significantly associated with local control success and overall survival in metastatic sarcoma treated with SBRT, future efforts to reduce tumor inhibitory microenvironment factors and improve lymphocyte recovery should be investigated.

Overstaffing production in underground coal mining is not convenient for daily management, and incomplete information of coal miners hinders the rescue process of firefighters during mine accidents. To address this safety sustainability issue, a novel face recognition method based on an improved multiscale neural network is proposed in this paper. A new depthwise separable (DS)-inception block is designed and a joint supervised loss function based on center loss theory is developed to construct a new multiscale model. The miniers can be recognized in the harsh underground environment during the life rescue. Experimental results show that the accuracy, recall and F1-score indexes of the proposed method for the miner face recognition in the underground mining environment are 97.26%, 94.17% and 95.42%, respectively. Transfer model with joint supervised loss can effectively improve the recognition accuracy by about 0.5–1.5%. In addition, the average recognition accuracy of the proposed face recognition method achieves to 91.34% and the miss detection rate is less than 5% in the dugout tunnel of coal mine.

Magnaporthe oryzae, a devastating pathogen of finger millet (Eleusine coracana), secretes effector molecules during infection to manipulate host immunity. This study determined the presence of avirulence effector genes PWL1 and PWL2 in 221 Eleusine blast isolates from eastern Africa. Most Ethiopian isolates carried both PWL1 and PWL2. Kenyan and Ugandan isolates largely lacked both genes, and Tanzanian isolates carried either PWL1 or lacked both. The roles of PWL1 and PWL2 towards pathogenicity on alternative chloridoid hosts, including weeping lovegrass (Eragrostis curvula), were also investigated. PWL1 and PWL2 were cloned from Ethiopian isolate E22 and were transformed separately into Ugandan isolate U34, which lacked both genes. Resulting transformants harboring either gene gained varying degrees of avirulence on Eragrostis curvula but remained virulent on finger millet. Strains carrying one or both PWL1 and PWL2 infected the chloridoid species Sporobolus phyllotrichus and Eleusine tristachya, indicating the absence of cognate resistance (R) genes for PWL1 and PWL2 in these species. Other chloridoid grasses, however, were fully resistant, regardless of the presence of one or both PWL1 and PWL2, suggesting the presence of effective R genes against PWL and other effectors. Partial resistance in some Eragrostis curvula accessions to some blast isolates lacking PWL1 and PWL2 also indicated the presence of other interactions between fungal avirulence (AVR) genes and host resistance (R) genes. Related chloridoid species thus harbor resistance genes that could be useful to improve finger millet for blast resistance. Conversely, loss of AVR genes in the fungus could expand its host range, as demonstrated by the susceptibility of Eragrostis curvula to finger millet blast isolates that had lost PWL1 and PWL2. To demonstrate the feasibility and improve the implementation of laser weeding, a static movable lift-adjustable closed fiber laser weeding device and system have been developed, followed by experiments and performance evaluations. Physical experiments were conducted on the energy required for laser cutting of weed stems, targeting four common larger weeds (Chenopodium album, Amaranthus spinosus, Setaria viridis, and Eleusine indica) in farmland and orchards. At the same irradiation distances, the energy required to cut the same type of large weed generally increases with increasing distances and stem diameters but decreases with increasing irradiation time. The variance of stems’ power density after irradiation was larger and the values were more dispersed for Chenopodium album and Setaria viridis weeds, and the values were relatively scattered, while the power density values of Amaranthus spinosus and Eleusine indica weeds were more concentrated. When the irradiation time was 10 s, the 3.892 W/mm2 laser was sufficient to eliminate weeds and plants with the irradiation distances of 2 m. The 2.47 W/mm2 laser was more effective, as it killed weeds within a distance of 1 m in less than 1 s. This work demonstrates the feasibility of the laser weeding device and system that can completely cut off the stems of large weeds, and this technology has the potential to promote sustainable agriculture.

The optimal allocation of agricultural water and land resources is of great significance in ensuring sustainable food production and economic benefits of farmers. However, agriculture, as an important carbon cycle ecosystem, has paid limited attention to carbon sequestration in the optimal allocation of water and land resources. Therefore, this study developed a new water-carbon-economy coupling model (WCECM) for optimal allocation of agricultural water and land resources. In this model, the minimum water scarcity, maximum carbon sequestration and maximum economic benefits are taken as the optimization objectives. In addition, surface water volume and groundwater volume and planting area etc. were defined as constraints, respectively. Then, the model was solved using the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm III (NSGA-III) and the Entropy-weighted-TOPSIS evaluation method. The developed model was demonstrated in the largest Farm, Youyi Farm, which is one of commercial grain production base in China to analyze the optimization of water and land resources from 2010 to 2019. We found that the new WCECM, based on the simulation of a complex coupled water-carbon-economy system, can realize the optimal allocation of agricultural water and land resources to protect regional water resources, increase carbon sequestration and adjust the agricultural planting structure. In detail, through the multi-objective optimization model, the planting structure and the allocation ratio of surface water and groundwater irrigation water consumption are more suitable for this study area. After the optimization, the area planted with Rice was significantly reduced, the area planted with Maize was increased, and the area planted with Soybean did not change significantly compared with the first two crops. The planting structure has changed from focusing on paddy cultivation to dryland cultivation, with the ratio of Rice area, Maize area and Soybean area being 3:6:1. The water consumption is constrained within manageable limits, with an average annual irrigation water consumption of 2.01 × 108 m3. The amount of carbon sequestered has increased significantly, with an average annual increase of 7.8 × 108 kg. Meanwhile, the optimized economic benefits increased slightly, with a value of ¥2.35 billion. In short, optimization of water and land resources is beneficial for improving farmers' incomes, increasing carbon sequestration in agriculture, and conserving water resources.

To enhance the hydrothermal performances of conventional mini-channel heat sinks, this paper experimentally and numerically investigates the impacts of channel convergence α on the pressure drop (ΔP), the maximum temperature (Tmax), the convective heat transfer coefficient (hs), and the coefficient of performance (COP) of a mirror Y-shaped convergent mini-channel heat sink (MYCMCHS) with a rectangular channel cross-section when the overall channel volume is fixed. The results show that ΔP of MYCMCHS initially decreases and subsequently increases with the growth of the channel convergence α; however, Tmax declines but hs grows with the drop of α. The different dependences of hydraulic and thermal performances on the channel convergence result in the COP of the MYCMCHS exhibiting an initial increase followed by a subsequent decrease with the rise of α. The numerical results further indicate that at the inlet volume flow rates of 0.05, 0.1, and 0.15 L/min, the maximum COP achieved at α = 0.7 rises 19.91 %, 20.57 %, and 22.59 % respectively in comparison to the COP of the heat sink without channel convergence (α = 1). This work validates the performance advantages of channel convergence and provides a possibility to enhance the hydrothermal performances of heat sink.

Although flavonoids play multiple roles in plant growth and development, the involvement in plant self-incompatibility (SI) have not been reported. In this research, the fertility of transgenic tobacco plants overexpressing the Ginkgo biloba dihydroflavonol 4-reductase gene, GbDFR6, were investigated. To explore the possible physiological defects leading to the failure of embryo development in transgenic tobacco plants, functions of pistils and pollen grains were examined. Transgenic pistils pollinated with pollen grains from another tobacco plants (either transgenic or wild-type), developed full of well-developed seeds. In contrast, in self-pollinated transgenic tobacco plants, pollen-tube growth was arrested in the upper part of the style, and small abnormal seeds developed without fertilization. Although the mechanism remains unclear, our research may provide a valuable method to create SI tobacco plants for breeding.

The Scaly-sided Merganser (SSME) is a globally endangered waterbird species, primarily inhabiting rivers. In recognition of its precarious status, it was added to the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species in 2002. The SSME is highly sensitive to ecological environmental changes driven by changes in hydrological connectivity, particularly within riverine habitats. Changbai Mountain, a high-latitude water tower in the Northeast Asia, is considered one of the most optimal breeding grounds for the SSME worldwide. Its extensive water system and dense primary forest create an environment particularly well-suited for this species. Over the past 40 years, rivers within Changbai Mountain have experienced phases of hydropower development and ecological restoration. These activities have dramatically altered the hydrological connectivity of the area. However, the response of SSME to these changes in aquatic ecology, driven by shifts in hydrological connectivity, remains uncertain. We employed the AutoRegressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) model to analyze changes in the population size of the SSME. Furthermore, the GeoDetector model was used to understand the impact of ecological changes on the maximum population size (MPS) and distribution of SSME in the context of alterations in hydrological connectivity. Our findings reveal that the restoration of hydrological connectivity, a method of ecological restoration, exerts a bidirectional influence on both the distribution and the MPS of SSME. Our findings can be summarized as follows. Firstly, there was a general trend of increase in both the distribution points and population size of the SSME. Secondly, the contribution of driving factors to the MPS of SSME was ranked in the following order: temperature > Connectivity Status Index (CSI) > river width > fish abundance > river depth > velocity > altitude > forest type. Thirdly, the impacts on the distribution and MPS of SSME were not due to a single factor, but rather a complex interplay of multiple factors. Finally, the construction of small hydropower stations significantly disrupted the hydrological connectivity of rivers, thereby altering the natural habitat of the SSME. The reduction in fish population, resulting from the loss of hydrological connectivity, adversely affected the MPS. Conversely, an increase in water temperature due to loss of hydrological connectivity positively impacted the MPS. However, these effects displayed heterogeneity across different rivers. Our study suggests that the construction of gravel dams may be a suitable approach in certain sections of the river, with a recommended height limit of 1.5 m. This research provides valuable insights for managers, offering a sustainable foundation for future energy planning and ecological restoration efforts.

The printability of Al6SiMg0·5Er1·0Zr alloy at various laser power, scan speed, and hatch spacing was investigated. The optimal processing window was determined. The relationship between hatch spacing and lack of fusion (LOF) defects and microstructure is discussed. Hatch spacing significantly affects the cellular size, which is formed by eutectic Si network, and medium hatch spacing can achieve the finest microstructure. Samples with high densities and fine microstructures were investigated more carefully. The grain and cellular boundaries have many Al3(Er,Zr) phases. The grain size was refined to 2.64 μm, and the epitaxial growth of columnar crystals was completely suppressed. The cellular structure has been significantly improved. Get the equiaxed - ultrafine equiaxed - columnar multi-cellular structure with dramatically enhanced mechanical properties. The yield strength, tensile strength, and elongation were 373 Mpa, 480 MPa, and 5.5%, respectively. Grain boundary strengthening and Orowan strengthening was the main strengthening mechanisms.

Abstract Finger millet is a key food security crop widely grown in eastern Africa, India and Nepal. Long considered a ‘poor man’s crop’, finger millet has regained attention over the past decade for its climate resilience and the nutritional qualities of its grain. To bring finger millet breeding into the 21st century, here we present the assembly and annotation of a chromosome-scale reference genome. We show that this ~1.3 million years old allotetraploid has a high level of homoeologous gene retention and lacks subgenome dominance. Population structure is mainly driven by the differential presence of large wild segments in the pericentromeric regions of several chromosomes. Trait mapping, followed by variant analysis of gene candidates, reveals that loss of purple coloration of anthers and stigma is associated with loss-of-function mutations in the finger millet orthologs of the maize R1/B1 and Arabidopsis GL3/EGL3 anthocyanin regulatory genes. Proanthocyanidin production in seed is not affected by these gene knockouts.

Building upon the efficient transport capabilities observed in the fractal tree-like convergent structures found in nature, this paper numerically studies the transport process of the combined electroosmotic and pressure-driven flow within a fractal tree-like convergent microchannel (FTCMC) with uniform channel height. The present work finds that the flow rate of the combined flow first increases and then decreases with the increasing branch width convergence ratio under the fixed voltage difference and pressure gradient along the FTCMC, which means that there is an optimal branch width convergence ratio to maximize the transport efficiency of the combined flow within the FTCMC. The value of the optimal branch convergence ratio is highly dependent on the ratio of the voltage difference and pressure gradient to drive the combined flow. By adjusting the structural and dimensional parameters of the FTCMC, the dependencies of the optimal branch convergence ratio of the FTCMC on the branching level convergence ratio, the length ratio, the branching number, and the branching level are also investigated. The findings in the present work can be used for the optimization of FTCMC with high transport efficiency for combined electroosmotic and pressure-driven flow.

Enhancing soil stability through the incorporation of straw and biochar is well documented. Nevertheless, the combined impact of straw, biochar, and nitrogen supplementation on soil aggregates and organic carbon still needs to be explored, with limited attention given to various sieving methods in the existing literature. Therefore, the current experiment used four sieving methods—routine wet sieving (RoutW), fast-wetting sieving (FastW), slow-wetting sieving (SlowW), and wetting–stirring sieving (WetS)—to investigate the effects of adding straw (0 or 4.5 t ha−1), biochar (from maize straw, 0 or 15 t ha−1), and N (0 or 100 kg ha−1) on soil aggregate stability and soil organic C in silt–loam soil of rainfed farmland in northwest China. The field experiment was started in 2014; soil samples were collected in 2021. The results revealed that straw returned, biochar, and N addition significantly increased soil mean weight diameter (MWD) and soil organic C (SOC). Compared to CN0 (zero-amendment) plots, straw returned with nitrogen addition (SN100) significantly increased the MWD of aggregates by 130.3% (RoutW), 121.66% (FastW), 73.94% (SlowW), and 91.78% (WetS) in the 0–30 cm soil layer. The addition of biochar and nitrogen (BN100) treatment showed the most significant effects on the relative slaking index (RSI), relative mechanical breakdown index (RMI), and SOC; compared with CN0 treatment, BN100 plots can reduce RSI and RMI by 42.90% and 54.66% and increase SOC by 53.27% for all soil layers. Therefore, adding organic materials with N can enhance the stability of soil aggregates and SOC of silt–loam soils in northwest China. Integrating biochar as an organic soil amendment in the agricultural practices of northwest China presents a multifaceted solution that addresses soil health, crop productivity, and environmental sustainability. The current study provides valuable insights that support adopting this innovative approach, paving the way for future sustainable agricultural practices that can benefit both the region and the global community.

The surface water area (SWA) and terrestrial water storage (TWS) are both essential metrics for assessing regional water resources. However, the combined effects of climate change and human activities on the dynamics of the SWA and TWS have not been extensively researched within the context of the CPEC. To fill this gap, we first analyzed the annual changes in the SWA and TWS in the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) region in recent decades using the methods of correlation analysis and Geodetector. Our findings indicate that Sindh exhibited the highest increase in the SWA at 8.68 ha/km2, whereas FATA showed the least increase at 0.2 ha/km2 from 2002 to 2018. Punjab exhibited a significant decrease in TWS, with a slope of −0.48 cm/year. Azad Kashmir followed with a decrease in TWS at a rate of −0.36 cm/year. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA exhibited an insignificant increase in TWS, with values of 0.02 cm/year and 0.11 cm/year, respectively. TWS was significantly positively correlated with the SWA in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, other regions showed inconsistent changes; in particular, a decline was observed in Gilgit–Baltistan. The changes in TWS in Balochistan were primarily influenced by the SWA and climate change, while TWS changes in FATA were mainly affected by climate change. In addition, human activities had a primary impact on the TWS changes in Azad Kashmir, Punjab, and Sindh. The influencing factors of TWS changes in different regions of the CPEC mainly involved a dual-factor enhancement and the nonlinear weakening of single factors. These results highlight that under the effect of climate change and human activities, TWS may not increase as surface water area increases. This study contributes to a better understanding of water resource dynamics and can aid in the development of strategies for the efficient and sustainable use of water resources in the CPEC.

Abstract Objectives Comparing the long-term tumor control results of partial cystectomy(PC)and radical cystectomy(RC)in the treatment of muscle-invasive bladder cancer, and to explore the feasible method of bladder preservation therapy (BPT)in patients with MIBC. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 102 patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer in our hospital between January 2012 and December 2018, of whom 32 cases in the partial cystectomy group and 70 cases in the radical cystectomy group. We performed a comparative analysis of patient general information, perioperative-related indicators and postoperative follow-up data, comparing OS, PFS, and DSS at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 years in both groups, and comparing tumour recurrence and metastasis in postoperative patients. Results All the 102 cases in this study were successfully completed. Partial cystectomy group and Radical cystectomy group median operating time (169.50(130.00 ~ 225.25) min and 420.00(343.75 ~ 483.75) min, p 0.05). Conclusion In patients with limited solitary T2N0M0 and T3N0M0 muscle-invasive bladder cancer, partial cystectomy plus bladder instillations treatment can achieve comparable tumour control to radical cystectomy. However, patients in the PC group have significant advantages in terms of operative time, intraoperative bleeding, intraoperative and postoperative blood transfusion, preoperative preparation time, total hospital stay, postoperative recovery time, operative costs and operative complications. This option may be considered for such patients with a need for bladder preservation.

Abstract Achromatic doublets are combinations of two individual lenses designed to focus different wavelengths of light in the same position. Apochromatic optics are improved versions of the achromatic schemes which extend the wavelength range significantly. Both achromatic and apochromatic optics are well-established for visible light. However, X-ray achromatic lenses did not exist until very recently, and X-ray apochromatic lenses have never been experimentally demonstrated. Here, we create an X-ray apochromatic lens system using an appropriate combination of a Fresnel zone plate and a diverging compound refractive lens with a tuned separation distance. The energy-dependent performance of this apochromat was characterized at photon energies between 6.5 and 13.0 keV by ptychographic reconstruction of the focal spot and scanning transmission X-ray microscopy of a resolution test sample. The apochromat delivered a reconstructed focal spot size of 940 × 740 nm2. The apochromatic combination shows a four-fold improvement in the chromatic aberration correction range compared to an achromatic doublet configuration. Thus, apochromatic X-ray optics have the potential to increase the focal spot intensity for a wide variety of X-ray applications.

This work aims to study the influence of laser power on the microstructural evolution of novel Ti–6Zr–5Fe alloy fabricated by selective laser melting (SLM). The microstructural evolutions of all top surfaces in SLM Ti–6Zr–5Fe alloy samples fabricated from 80 W to 140 W were investigated in depth. The microstructure in SLM Ti–6Zr–5Fe alloy includes α phase and β phase, the size of the β phase and α phase increases with the increase of laser power due to the decrease of cooling rate. Meanwhile, the melt pool overlapping width increases with the increase of melt pool width due to the increase of laser power. The increase of melt pool overlapping causes the re-heating or re-melting of SLM Ti–6Zr–5Fe alloy. Moreover, as the laser power increases from 80 W to 140 W, the change of the melt pool greatly influenced the size, morphology, crystallographic orientation of the β phase, and their distributions. The increase of laser power causes adequate precipitation of the α phase, which improves the microhardness from 466 HV to 533 HV. The laser power can effectively regulate and control the microstructure and microhardness of SLM Ti alloys.

Abstract Papillary carcinomas account for the largest proportion of thyroid cancers, with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) being prone to early lymph node metastasis. Some studies have confirmed that LPAR5 can promote the progression of PTC, but immune-related analyses of LPAR5 and PTC have not been widely discussed. This study aimed to determine the role of LPAR5 in PTC prognosis and immunity. We will further explore the role of LPAR5 in 33 different tumor types. Regarding PTC, we analyzed the effect of LPAR5 expression on overall survival (OS). Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses were performed. Immune-related analyses of immune checkpoints (ICPs) and immune cell infiltration were also performed. For pan-cancer, R packages were used to analyze prognosis, tumor mutational burden (TMB), microsatellite instability (MSI), and immune cell infiltration. Analysis of tumor microenvironment (TME) and ICPs was performed using Sangerbox ( http://vip.sangerbox.com/home.html ). The TISIDB database ( http://cis.hku.hk/TISIDB/index.php ) was used to identify immune and molecular subtypes. LPAR5 expression is associated with PTC prognosis and immunity as well as various human tumors. LPAR5 may be a potential biomarker for multiple malignancies and may provide a new target for cancer immunotherapy.

Abstract Background Despite improved supportive care, posttraumatic acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) mortality has improved very little in recent years. Additionally, ARDS diagnosis is delayed or missed in many patients. We analyzed co-differentially expressed genes (co-DEGs) to explore the relationships between severe trauma and ARDS to reveal potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for posttraumatic ARDS. Methods Two gene expression datasets (GSE64711 and GSE76293) were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus. The GSE64711 dataset included a subset of 244 severely injured trauma patients and 21 healthy controls. GSE76293 specimens were collected from 12 patients with ARDS who were recruited from trauma intensive care units and 11 age- and sex-matched healthy volunteers. Trauma DEGs and ARDS DEGs were identified using the two datasets. Subsequently, Gene Ontology, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes, and protein–protein interaction network analyses were performed to elucidate the molecular functions of the DEGs. Then, hub genes of the co-DEGs were identified. Finally, to explore whether posttraumatic ARDS and septic ARDS are common targets, we included a third dataset (GSE100159) for corresponding verification. Results 90 genes were upregulated and 48 genes were downregulated in the two datasets and were therefore named co-DEGs. These co-DEGs were significantly involved in multiple inflammation-, immunity- and neutrophil activation-related biological processes. Ten co-upregulated hub genes (GAPDH, MMP8, HGF, MAPK14, LCN2, CD163, ENO1, CD44, ARG1 and GADD45A) and five co-downregulated hub genes (HERC5, IFIT2, IFIT3, RSAD2 and IFIT1) may be considered potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for posttraumatic ARDS. Through the verification of the third dataset, posttraumatic ARDS may have its own unique targets worthy of further exploration. Conclusion This exploratory analysis supports a relationship between trauma and ARDS pathophysiology, specifically in relationship to the identified hub genes. These data may serve as potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for posttraumatic ARDS.

Background Heart failure is caused by acute or chronic cardiovascular diseases with limited treatments and unclear pathogenesis. Therefore, it is urgent to explore new therapeutic targets and reveal new pathogenesis for heart failure. Methods We carried out heart failure animal model by transverse aortic arch constriction (TAC) in mice. The left ventricular internal diameter diastole (LVIDd), left ventricular internal diameter systole (LVIDs), and ejection fraction (EF) value were detected using ultrasound and myocardial fibrosis was evaluated by Masson stain assay. Cell apoptosis in myocardial tissues were detected by TUNEL immunofluorescence stain. Signal pathway analysis was performed by dual-luciferase reporter assay and western blot. Results Our results showed that inhibition of RUNX1 led to remission of cardiac enlargement induced by TAC in mice. Inhibition of RUNX1 also caused raise of EF and FS value under TAC-induced condition. Besides, RUNX1 inhibition mice showed decreased myocardial fibrosis area under TAC-induced condition. RUNX1 inhibition caused decrease of apoptotic cell rate in myocardial tissues under TAC. Interestingly, we found that RUNX1 could promote the activation of TGF-β/Smads in dual-luciferase reporter assay. Interpretation We illustrated that RUNX1 could be considered as a new regulator of myocardial remodeling by activating TGF-β/Smads signaling. Based on this, we concluded that RUNX1 may be developed as a new therapeutic target against heart failure in the future. In addition, this study also provide a new insight for the etiological study on heart failure.

Although the relationship between anesthesia and consciousness has been investigated for decades, our understanding of the underlying neural mechanisms of anesthesia and consciousness remains rudimentary, which limits the development of systems for anesthesia monitoring and consciousness evaluation. Moreover, the current practices for anesthesia monitoring are mainly based on methods that do not provide adequate information and may present obstacles to the precise application of anesthesia. Most recently, there has been a growing trend to utilize brain network analysis to reveal the mechanisms of anesthesia, with the aim of providing novel insights to promote practical application. This review summarizes recent research on brain network studies of anesthesia, and compares the underlying neural mechanisms of consciousness and anesthesia along with the neural signs and measures of the distinct aspects of neural activity. Using the theory of cortical fragmentation as a starting point, we introduce important methods and research involving connectivity and network analysis. We demonstrate that whole-brain multimodal network data can provide important supplementary clinical information. More importantly, this review posits that brain network methods, if simplified, will likely play an important role in improving the current clinical anesthesia monitoring systems.

Abstract Background Cancer of unknown primary (CUP) is defined the presence of metastatic disease without an identified primary site. An unidentifiable primary site of cancer creates significant challenges for treatment selection. We aimed to describe the clinicopathological, molecular, and prognostic characteristics of Chinese CUP patients. Methods Patients with oncologist‐confirmed CUP were identified at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center from 2019 to 2020. Information on patient characteristics, tumor presentation, treatment, and outcome were retrospectively collected from the inpatient database and pathological consultation database for descriptive analysis. A multivariable logistic regression model was established to identify factors associated with patient prognosis. Results A total of 1420 CUP patients were enrolled in this study. The baseline characteristics of the entire cohort included the following: median age (59 years old), female sex (45.8%), adenocarcinoma (47.7%), and poorly differentiated or undifferentiated tumors (92.1%). For the inpatient cohort, the most common sites where cancer spread included the lymph nodes (41.8%), bone (22.0%), liver (20.1%), and peritoneum/retroperitoneum (16.0%). A total of 77.4% and 58.2% of patients were treated with local therapy and systemic therapy, respectively. Four prognostic factors, including liver metastasis, peritoneal/retroperitoneal metastasis, number of metastatic sites (N ≥ 2), and systemic treatment, were independently associated with overall survival. Additionally, 24.8% (79/318) of patients received molecular testing, including PD‐L1, human papillomavirus, genetic variation, and 90‐gene expression tests for diagnosis or therapy selection. Conclusion Cancer of unknown primary remains a difficult cancer to diagnose and manage. Our findings improve our understanding of Chinese CUP patient characteristics, leading to improved care and outcomes for CUP patients.

Abstract The online monitoring of inter‐turn short‐circuit (ITSC) faults in excitation windings of pumped storage units is easily affected by static air‐gap eccentricity (SAGE) and armature response, and the early fault characteristics cannot be easily identified effectively. To address these problems, this study proposes a frequency‐resolved circulation spectrum (FRCS) fault diagnosis method for ITSC faults in excitation windings. Firstly, the equation for the same phase multi‐branch circulation under SAGE compound ITSC conditions is derived based on the structural characteristics of pumped storage units and electromagnetic induction relations, and obtains the characteristic harmonics of the loop current caused by ITSC faults. Secondly, this study introduces the implementation method of FRCS, considering a pumped storage unit with a generation capacity of 334 MVA as the research object. This study develops a two‐dimensional finite element simulation model, calculates the magnitude of the in‐phase branch circulation at different fault levels, extracts the corresponding time and frequency domain spectrum and FRCS, and verifies the effectiveness of the proposed method based on comparative experiments. Finally, based on the MJF‐30‐6 Synchronous Generator Experimental Platform in the Power System Dynamic Simulation Laboratory, ITSC operation at different fault levels is simulated, and the corresponding in‐phase branch current data are collected for FRCS analysis. The experimental results demonstrate that the method can effectively eliminate SAGE and armature reaction interference, identify early weak ITSC faults and visualise the severity of faults in the form of pixel dots.

Abstract Background The treatment of posterior malleolar fractures is changing rapidly, and the evidence base is still catching up. This study aimed to assess the mid-term prognosis of posterior malleolar fractures based on different morphological types and provides evidence for the treatment of posterior malleolar fractures. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the data of inpatients with posterior malleolar fractures from 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2019 at one high-volume tertiary trauma center. Fracture morphology was classified into small-shell fragment, single-fragment (small-fragment and large-fragment) and multifragment (double-fragment and compressive-fragment) by computed tomography according to our previous study. All patients were followed up at an average of 5.06 (range, 2.21–8.70) years. The Olerud-Molander Ankle Score (OMAS), EuroQol-5 Dimensions (EQ-5D) and American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) score were recorded. Results Seventy-nine patients were included, and 7 patients were classified into the small-shell group, 52 patients into the single-fragment group and 20 patients into the multifragment group. Of all the patients, the average OMAS, EQ-5D and AOFAS scores were 85.9, 82.8 and 92.5, respectively. In the single-fragment group, patients who underwent surgical fixation in the posterior malleolus had significantly better scores (P = 0.037, 0.033 and 0.027). Among the patients with small fragments, the surgical fixation group also had higher OMAS (93.1 ± 7.5 vs. 83.5 ± 19.5, P = 0.042) and AOFAS scores (98.1 ± 3.1 vs. 91.0 ± 14.1, P = 0.028). The mean OMAS, EQ-5D and AOFAS scores were 85.5, 85.7 and 91.7, respectively, in patients with multiple fragments who underwent surgical fixation. Conclusion This study shows that in fractures with a single fragment, surgical fixation of the posterior malleolar fragment led to a better prognosis in the midterm. All single fragments should be fixed regardless of size. Fixation of the posterior region in all single- and multi-fragments in posterior malleolar fractures led to satisfactory outcomes. In order to improve the mechanical properties of Al–Si alloys fabricated by selective laser melting process, the microstructure and mechanical properties of Er/Zr modified A357 (Al–7Si-0.6 Mg) alloy in as-built and stress relief annealing conditions were studied. The results show that adding 0.15 wt.% Er helps to refine the cellular size, which is formed by eutectic Si network. The (Al,Si)3(Er,Zr) phases were precipitated during the solidification of Er–Zr composite modified sample, which could act as inoculants to promote the formation of equiaxed grains and refine the grain size. The average grain size of 0.8Er-0.4Zr sample was only 3.1 ± 1.4 μm. The yield strength, tensile strength and elongation reached 333 ± 2 MPa, 454 ± 1 MPa and 12.5 ± 1%, respectively. After stress relief annealing, eutectic Si was spheroidized and its size was increased, resulting in a decrease of strength and an increase of elongation. At the same time, the nano-sized L12-structure particles were precipitated in the Er–Zr composite modified sample, which would make up for the loss of strength and level it up to a certain extent. Therefore, Er–Zr composite modification could be an effective method to improve the comprehensive mechanical properties of SLM processed Al–Si alloys.

Isothermal hot compression experiments of homogenized Al–Mg–Si–Er–Zr alloy were conducted at temperatures ranging from 350 to 500 °C and strain rates of 0.01–10 s−1 on a Gleeble-3500 thermal simulation tester. The hot deformation behavior and optimum processing parameters of the alloy were determined by analyzing the flow curves and processing maps. Characterization of the microstructures of the deformed specimens was done using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and the geometrically necessary dislocation (GND) density was used based on the kernel average misorientation (KAM). The results showed that the GND density decreased with a decrease in the strain rate and with an increase in the deformation temperature. Dynamic recovery and continuous dynamic recrystallization were the main softening mechanisms during hot deformation, and dynamic recovery was dominant. It was found that the capacity for dynamic recovery was reduced, while dynamic recrystallization was prevented in the Al–Mg–Si–Er–Zr alloy. This was a result of hindered dislocations and sub-grain boundary movement caused by the pinning of dislocations and sub-grain boundaries from the Mg2Si, Al(MnFe)Si, and Al3(Er, Zr) particles. The addition of Er and Zr resulted in an increase in the activation energy, which can be attributed to the formation of Al3(Er, Zr) particles.

Abstract Background Endovascular treatment (EVT) is an alternative option for symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic disease (ICAD). However, the effect of EVT treatment on ICAD plaques is still unclear. This study describes the ICAD plaque characteristics after EVT treatment and analyzes the effect of different EVT treatments on plaque characteristics. Method From 2017 January to 2022 January, ICAD patients who underwent endovascular treatment and had follow-up high-resolution magnetic resonance image (HRMRI) were enrolled in the study. Multiple plaque characteristics, including plaque enhancement, plaque burden, were measured based on preoperative, and follow-up HRMRI. Plaque characteristics and postoperative plaque changes were analyzed between different treatment groups. Result Finally, 50 intracranial atherosclerotic plaques in 45 patients were included. Including 28 male patients and 17 female, media age 63.0 years old. Among 50 plaques, 41 received percutaneous angioplasty (including 22 plain balloons and 19 drug-coated balloons (DCB)) and the other 9 underwent stenting. The Qinling mountains are one of the richest diversity hotspots in the world. This area is remote, and new species remain to be discovered, including macrofungi. In this study, Qinling Mountain of the Shaanxi province was surveyed for macrofungus, and one new species of macrofungi Microstoma ningshanica (Sarcoscyphaceae) was discovered and analyzed by light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy as well as DNA sequence analysis. The description, photographs, and comparisons with morphologically similar and phylogenetically related species are provided. Conclusions of its phylogenetic relationships with similar species are also drawn based on the sequence of the nuclear internal transcribed spacer region, as well as the large subunit rRNA.

Droplet collectors are commonly utilized to gauge the effect of pesticide deposition on crops. However, the varying surface characteristics of these collectors can lead to disparate data outcomes. Notably, water-sensitive paper is limited in humid environments, hindering rapid droplet deposition evaluation. Consequently, the selection of appropriate droplet collectors based on the environmental conditions is imperative. This study involved the use of five typical droplet collectors to establish a method for the swift and accurate evaluation of spray effectiveness, employing various spray liquids. It was observed that the surface free energy of five widely used droplet collectors was measured as follows: 35.11 mN m−1 for semigloss paper, 33.81 mN m−1 for coated paper laminated with polyvinyl chloride, 48.38 mN m−1 for kromekote paper (KP), 33.90 mN m−1 for polyvinyl chloride cards, and 39.95 mN m−1 for water-sensitive paper. When comparing the outcomes of deposition tests across these five collectors, it was noted that the results pertaining to droplet density were minimally influenced by the surface properties of the collectors with droplet coverage following. The volume of deposition was found to be the most susceptible to the surface characteristics of the collectors. Therefore, in the context of collecting and processing droplets, prioritizing droplet density as the metric for evaluation proved to be more reliable than using the other indicators.

Study region: Second Songhua River basin (SSRB), Northeast China. Study focus: Accurately assessing future flood risks is the premise and foundation of flood control and water resources management. At present, studies are still lacking in assessing future watershed flood risks that consider climate change and social development in Northeast China and the relative flood risk assessment framework. This study proposed an integrated flood assessment framework containing the AHP, entropy weight, and GCM downscaling methods, which was implemented in the SSRB, a typical watershed in Northeast China, to estimate future basin flood risks under climate change and social development. New hydrological insights for the region: The flood risk in the SSRB will increase significantly in the mid-term (2051–2075) and long-term (2076–2100) future. The areas under the four scenarios with greater than high-risk levels will expand by 28.9 %, 105.6 %, 165.6 %, and 156.7 %, respectively, compared to the historical scenario. The newly added areas mainly located in the lower reaches. Precipitation changes are the primary reason for the future flood risks. The increased GDP under a higher forcing degree will also significantly increase the flood risk in the long-term future in the lower reaches. Based on these above findings, extreme precipitation forecasting and flood management in downstream areas in the basin need to be enhanced. Energy-saving and emission-reduction measures should be simultaneously implemented.

BackgroundThe negative impact of long COVID on social life and human health is increasingly prominent, and the elevated risk of cardiovascular disease in patients recovering from COVID-19 has also been fully confirmed. However, the pathogenesis of long COVID-related inflammatory cardiomyopathy is still unclear. Here, we explore potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets of long COVID-associated inflammatory cardiomyopathy.MethodsDatasets that met the study requirements were identified in Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO), and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were obtained by the algorithm. Then, functional enrichment analysis was performed to explore the basic molecular mechanisms and biological processes associated with DEGs. A protein–protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed and analyzed to identify hub genes among the common DEGs. Finally, a third dataset was introduced for validation.ResultsUltimately, 3,098 upregulated DEGs and 1965 downregulated DEGs were extracted from the inflammatory cardiomyopathy dataset. A total of 89 upregulated DEGs and 217 downregulated DEGs were extracted from the dataset of convalescent COVID patients. Enrichment analysis and construction of the PPI network confirmed VEGFA, FOXO1, CXCR4, and SMAD4 as upregulated hub genes and KRAS and TXN as downregulated hub genes. The separate dataset of patients with COVID-19 infection used for verification led to speculation that long COVID-associated inflammatory cardiomyopathy is mainly attributable to the immune-mediated response and inflammation rather than to direct infection of cells by the virus.ConclusionScreening of potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets sheds new light on the pathogenesis of long COVID-associated inflammatory cardiomyopathy as well as potential therapeutic approaches. Further clinical studies are needed to explore these possibilities in light of the increasingly severe negative impacts of long COVID.

Vulnerable carotid atherosclerotic plaque (CAP) significantly contributes to ischemic stroke. Neovascularization within plaques is an emerging biomarker linked to plaque vulnerability that can be detected using contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS). Computed tomography angiography (CTA) is a common method used in clinical cerebrovascular assessments that can be employed to evaluate the vulnerability of CAPs. Radiomics is a technique that automatically extracts radiomic features from images. This study aimed to identify radiomic features associated with the neovascularization of CAP and construct a prediction model for CAP vulnerability based on radiomic features. CTA data and clinical data of patients with CAPs who underwent CTA and CEUS between January 2018 and December 2021 in Beijing Hospital were retrospectively collected. The data were divided into a training cohort and a testing cohort using a 7:3 split. According to the examination of CEUS, CAPs were dichotomized into vulnerable and stable groups. 3D Slicer software was used to delineate the region of interest in CTA images, and the Pyradiomics package was used to extract radiomic features in Python. Machine learning algorithms containing logistic regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM), random forest (RF), light gradient boosting machine (LGBM), adaptive boosting (AdaBoost), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), and multi-layer perception (MLP) were used to construct the models. The confusion matrix, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, accuracy, precision, recall, and f-1 score were used to evaluate the performance of the models. A total of 74 patients with 110 CAPs were included. In all, 1,316 radiomic features were extracted, and 10 radiomic features were selected for machine-learning model construction. After evaluating several models on the testing cohorts, it was discovered that model_RF outperformed the others, achieving an AUC value of 0.93 (95% CI: 0.88–0.99). The accuracy, precision, recall, and f-1 score of model_RF in the testing cohort were 0.85, 0.87, 0.85, and 0.85, respectively. Radiomic features associated with the neovascularization of CAP were obtained. Our study highlights the potential of radiomics-based models for improving the accuracy and efficiency of diagnosing vulnerable CAP. In particular, the model_RF, utilizing radiomic features extracted from CTA, provides a noninvasive and efficient method for accurately predicting the vulnerability status of CAP. This model shows great potential for offering clinical guidance for early detection and improving patient outcomes.

Background: The prevalence of intracranial aneurysms is approximately 3% worldwide. Posterior circulation (PC) aneurysms have a higher risk of treatment complications than anterior circulation aneurysms. Improving the survival rate and quality of life of patients with PC aneurysms remains one of the most important issues in the field. Objectives: Flow diverter (FD) treatment of PC aneurysms remains controversial. We aimed to investigate the effects of FD treatment and analyze differences among different application methods or aneurysm types in PC aneurysms. Design: This is a multicenter retrospective study. Methods: Patients with PC aneurysms treated with the pipeline embolization device (PED) or Tubridge embolization device (TED) between 2015 and 2020 in five neurovascular centers were retrospectively enrolled. The primary outcomes were major perioperative complication, clinical outcome, and aneurysm occlusion rates. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were used to determine the risk factors of each outcome. Results: In total, 252 aneurysms were included. Major perioperative complication, favorable clinical outcome, and complete occlusion rates were 7.5%, 91.0%, and 79.1%, respectively. Compared with other types of aneurysms, dissecting aneurysms had the best clinical outcome and highest occlusion rate. Both clinical and angiographic outcomes were independently associated with the aneurysm location at the basilar artery. Aneurysm size was not associated with any outcome. TED had similar clinical and angiographic outcomes compared with PED but more perioperative major complications. Tandem treatment and coiling assistance may have poorer clinical outcomes but similar occlusion rates. Single- and multiple-stent treatments had similar outcomes. Conclusion: FD treatment of PC aneurysms achieved favorable clinical outcomes and long-term aneurysm occlusion rates with acceptable perioperative complication rates, especially in dissecting and non-basilar artery aneurysms. There was no additional improvement in outcomes with coiling assistance, multi-stent application, or tandem treatment. Therefore, the use of PC aneurysms should be carefully considered.

Microstructural evolution and its effect on microhardness and Young's modulus of Ti–6Zr–4Fe alloy solution and aging treated at different temperatures were studied. The α phase transformed into β phase completely at 860 °C, meanwhile, the athermal ω phase was found at 860 °C and it resulted in a higher Young's modulus. The ω phase content increased from 250 °C to 400 °C, and the content decreased with further increase of aging temperature, there were only α phase and β phase at 600 °C. The phase transformation sequence was β → ω + β → ω + α + β → α + β during aging treatment. The microhardness increased from 315 HV to 492 HV due to the element solution strengthening and phase transformation strengthening. The peak microhardness of Ti–6Zr–4Fe alloy aged at 400 °C reached 652 HV. The formation of ω phase resulted in the increase of microhardness and Young's modulus in Ti–6Zr–4Fe alloy.

The unbalanced industrial development in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei leads to the economic development with increasingly prominent environmental problems, which is not conducive to the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. This research constructs a composite multiple mediation model with government factors as independent variables, market factors, technological innovation, and location factors as mediating variables, and coordinated development as outcome variables to conduct an empirical study. The PLS-SEM method was used to evaluate and test the initial model and the modified model. After several fittings, the optimal model is obtained, the study found that the mediating effect value of technological innovation was the largest between government factors to coordinated development effects, followed by the mediating variables location factors and market factors. It is recommended to build a common research and sharing mechanism for green technological innovation in pollution reduction and accelerate the speed of transformation of green achievements; build an internal and external construction mechanism based on thermal power and other high haze pollution industrial systems to improve the proportion of high quality population; build a financial hierarchical expenditure guarantee mechanism and strive to create an environment open to foreign business.

In recent years, with the rapid development of China’s economy, high haze industries such as thermal power industry in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region have been over concentrated, and the environmental pollution is becoming more and more serious. The formulation and implementation of various policies play a crucial role in the coordinated development of high haze industries such as thermal power industry and economy in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei​ region. Based on the supply and demand matching for policies related to the coordinated development of high haze industries such as thermal power industry and economy in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region, the paper constructs the matching model relevant to the issue as mentioned above, and the evaluation index system of fiscal policy, tax, finance, technology, and public policy through literature analysis and variance analysis, with an aim to analyze the matching degree of policy supply and demand. The results show that: the fiscal policy matches very well, the tax policy matches well, the financial policy and the technology policy barely match, and the matching of public service policy is out of balance. According to the supply and demand matching for policies related to the coordinated development of high haze industries such as thermal power industry and economy in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region, the paper puts forward some suggestions for optimizing the following aspects: strengthening the financial investment policy, perfecting the tax types, deepening the green credit policy, strengthening the technical cooperation policy, and improving the monitoring and warning policy in Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei. It aims to help promote industrial transformation and upgrading and realize the high-quality economic development in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region.

Abstract Pseudorabies virus (PRV) variant infections have caused a substantial economic impact on swine production in the absence of new powerful candidate vaccines. In this study, we developed and evaluated a gene-deleted variant pseudorabies virus (PRV)-attenuated vaccine, PRV GX-ΔTK/IES, in which the genes TK, gI, gE, US9 and US2 were deleted. During a study of innocuousness, all mice inoculated with PRV GX-ΔTK/IES survived, neither clinical signs nor pathological changes were observed, and viral genomes could not be detected in the blood and tissues. All piglets inoculated with high titres of PRV GX-ΔTK/IES remained clinically healthy, and neither fever nor clinical signs were observed. Viral detection results were negative in nasal swab samples, blood and tissue samples. Moreover, none of the cohabitated piglets seroconverted during a trial on horizontal transmission. The immunogenicity was assessed through a vaccination and challenge experiment in piglets. Piglets vaccinated with PRV GX-ΔTK/IES and the commercial vaccine were completely protected from subsequent PRV infection, and the level of immunity and protection induced by PRV GX-ΔTK/IES was better than that provided by the live commercial vaccine. Thus, PRV GX-ΔTK/IES is completely safe for both nontarget and target animals and can be regarded as a novel live gene-deleted PRV vaccine candidate.

Background and aimsSecondary embolization (SE) during mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for cerebral large vessel occlusion (LVO) could reduce the anterior blood flow and worsen clinical outcomes. The current SE prediction tools have limited accuracy. In this study, we aimed to develop a nomogram to predict SE following MT for LVO based on clinical features and radiomics extracted from computed tomography (CT) images.Materials and methodsA total of 61 patients with LVO stroke treated by MT at Beijing Hospital were included in this retrospective study, of whom 27 developed SE during the MT procedure. The patients were randomly divided (7:3) into training (n = 42) and testing (n = 19) cohorts. The thrombus radiomics features were extracted from the pre-interventional thin-slice CT images, and the conventional clinical and radiological indicators associated with SE were recorded. A support vector machine (SVM) learning model with 5-fold cross-verification was used to obtain the radiomics and clinical signatures. For both signatures, a prediction nomogram for SE was constructed. The signatures were then combined using the logistic regression analysis to construct a combined clinical radiomics nomogram.ResultsIn the training cohort, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of the nomograms was 0.963 for the combined model, 0.911 for the radiomics, and 0.891 for the clinical model. Following validation, the AUCs were 0.762 for the combined model, 0.714 for the radiomics model, and 0.637 for the clinical model. The combined clinical and radiomics nomogram had the best prediction accuracy in both the training and test cohort.ConclusionThis nomogram could be used to optimize the surgical MT procedure for LVO based on the risk of developing SE.

In patients with symptomatic atrial fibrillation refractory to optimal medical therapy, atrioventricular node ablation followed by permanent pacemaker implantation is an effective treatment option. A 66-year-old woman with symptomatic persistent atrial fibrillation refractory to multiple ablation procedures was referred to our institution. After optimal drug therapy, the patient still had obvious symptoms. Sequential His-Purkinje conduction system pacing and atrioventricular node ablation were performed. Left bundle branch pacing was used as a backup pacing method if thresholds of His bundle pacing were too high or loss of His bundle capture occurred in the follow-up. At the 6-month follow-up, the European Heart Rhythm Association classification for AF was improved, the score of the Atrial Fibrillation Effect on Quality of Life was enhanced, and the 6-Minute Walk Test was ameliorated. The present case was subjected to His-Purkinje conduction system pacing in combination with atrioventricular node ablation as treatment for a symptomatic persistent atrial fibrillation refractory to multiple ablation procedures, and this procedure alleviated symptoms and improved the quality of life in a short-term follow-up.

ObjectiveTo evaluate whether no drainage has an advantage over routine drainage in patients with thyroid carcinoma after unilateral thyroid lobectomy and central neck dissection.MethodsA total of 104 patients with thyroid cancer who underwent unilateral thyroid lobectomy and central lymph node dissection were randomly assigned into no drainage tube (n=52) and routine drainage tube (n=52) placement groups. General information of each patient was recorded, including the postoperative drainage volume/residual cavity fluid volume, postoperative complications, incision area comfort, and other data, and the thyroid cancer-specific quality of life questionnaire (THYCA-QoL) and patient and observer scar assessment scale (POSAS) were evaluated after surgery. At the 3–6 month follow-up exam, the differences between the two groups were compared based on univariate analysis.ResultsSignificant differences were not observed in the general and pathological information (including sex, age, body weight, body mass index (BMI), incision length, specimen volume, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, and number of lymph nodes dissected), operation time, and postoperative complications (postoperative bleeding, incision infection, lymphatic leakage, and temporary hypoparathyroidism) between the two groups. In plants, age-related resistance (ARR) refers to a gain of disease resistance during shoot or organ maturation. ARR associated with vegetative phase change, a transition from juvenile to adult stage, is a widespread agronomic trait affecting resistance against multiple pathogens. How innate immunity in a plant is differentially regulated during successive stages of shoot maturation is unclear. In this work, we found that Arabidopsis thaliana showed ARR against its bacterial pathogen Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000 during vegetative phase change. The timing of the ARR activation was associated with a temporal drop of miR156 level. The microRNA miR156 maintains juvenile phase by inhibiting the accumulation and translation of SPL transcripts. A systematic inspection of the loss- and gain-of-function mutants of 11 SPL genes revealed that a subset of SPL genes, notably SPL2, SPL10, and SPL11, activated ARR in adult stage. The immune function of SPL10 was independent of its role in morphogenesis. Furthermore, the SPL10 mediated an age-dependent augmentation of the salicylic acid (SA) pathway partially by direct activation of PAD4. Disrupting SA biosynthesis or signaling abolished the ARR against Pto DC3000. Our work demonstrated that the miR156-SPL10 module in Arabidopsis is deployed to operate immune outputs over developmental timing.
