The acidic wastewater produced by the wet production of activated clay contains valuable components such as iron and aluminum. The precipitation method was successfully introduced to separate iron and aluminum from the activated clay production wastewater step by step, which can not only recover the valuable components, but also avoid environmental pollution. In the separation process, gypsum, iron aluminum phosphate, alumina, and sodium sulfate were prepared, and the phase compositions of separation products were analyzed by XRD and IR. The main influencing factors in the separation of iron and aluminum components were studied by single factor experiment. The results show that at the optimized conditions, phosphorus/iron molar ratio 6.0, the system pH 3.0, the reaction temperature 343 K, and the reaction time 90 min, the iron(iii) ion in the system can form a sodium-containing aluminum iron phosphate double salt, and the filtrate after separating Fe3+ and part of Al3+ can meet the requirements for forming high-purity Al2O3. During the phosphate precipitation process, the hypothesis should be correct that Al3+ reacts with PO43−{\text{PO}}_{4}^{3-} to form an AlPO4 skeleton, Fe3+ isomorphically replaces Al3+ in the [AlO4] tetrahedron, and adsorption occurs simultaneously, with Na+ occupying the terminal acid sites, P(Al)–OH.

To comprehensively reuse copper ore tailings, the recovery of γ-Fe2O3 from magnetic roasted slag after sulfur release from copper ore tailings followed by magnetic separation is performed. In this work, after analysis of chemical composition and mineralogical phase composition, the effects of parameters in both magnetization roasting and magnetic separation process with respect to roasting temperature, residence time, airflow, particle size distribution, magnetic field intensity, and the ratio of sodium dodecyl sulfonate to roasted slag were investigated. Under optimum parameters, a great number of γ-Fe2O3 is recycled with a grade of 66.86% and a yield rate of 67.21%. Meanwhile, the microstructure, phase transformation and magnetic property of copper ore tailings, roasted slag, and magnetic concentrate are carried out.

Various morphologies of magnesium carbonate hydrate had been synthesized without using any organic additives by carefully adjusting the reaction temperature and time during the talc carbonation process. At lower temperatures, magnesium carbonate hydrate was prone to display needle-like morphology. With the further increase of the carbonation temperature, the sheet-like crystallites became the preferred morphology, and at higher aging temperatures, these crystallites tended to assemble into layer-like structures with diverse morphologies, such as rose-like particles and nest-like structure. The reaction time had no effect on the crystal morphology, but it affected the particle size and situation of the crystal growth. X-Ray diffraction results showed that these various morphologies were closely related to their crystal structure and compositions. The needle-like magnesium carbonate hydrate had a formula of MgCO3·3H2O, whereas with the morphological transformation from needle-like to sheet-like, rose-like, and nest-like structure, their corresponding compositions also changed from MgCO3·3H2O to 4MgCO3·Mg(OH)2·8H2O, 4MgCO3·Mg(OH)2·5H2O, and 4MgCO3·Mg(OH)2·4H2O.

In this study, a procedure for producing calcium carbonate whisker through yellow phosphorus slag carbonation without adding any crystal control agents was proposed. The influence of process parameters on the crystal phase and morphology of the product was discussed. The content of aragonite in the product was more than 90% under optimal conditions. The whiteness of the product was 97.6%. The diameter of a single particle was about 1.5–3 μm, and the length of a single particle was about 8–40 μm. Various polymorphs and morphologies of CaCO3 could be formed by adjusting the production conditions. The by-products produced during the whole preparation process could also be reused. The whole preparation process of fibrous aragonite from yellow phosphorus slag without using any chemical additives was also proposed. These indicated that the production strategy had a good application prospect.

In this research, ammonium chloride was used to calcine Ti-extraction blast furnace slag (EBFS) with the aim of removing iron from it. The influences of calcination temperature, ammonium chloride to EBFS mass ratio and particle size on the rates of iron removal were investigated. The results show that the rate of iron removal increased to almost 100% with increases in calcination temperature and the NH4Cl to EBFS mass ratio, but decreased with increases in particle size. Iron is removed in the form of ferric chloride gas, and ammonium chloride can be recycled by recrystallization after decomposition. The bagdasarrym model was used to describe the calcination process at temperatures below 261°C, which was controlled by nonisothermal crystallization. The reaction kinetic equation was obtained and the apparent activation energy of 67.21 kJ/mol. Ferric chloride reaction product existed in the calcined slag in an amorphous solid state. The shrinking core model was used to describe the calcination process at temperatures above 261°C, which was controlled by surface chemical reactions. The reaction kinetic equation was obtained and the apparent activation energy was found to be 42.05 kJ/mol.

The expansion of vermiculite using microwave irradiation is an environmentally friendly and efficient method that can enhance the material's adsorption performance. This study investigated the microwave irradiation of vermiculite with five different particle sizes (4/2/1/0.5/0.2 mm) and found that the adsorption capacity for Pb2+ increased with larger particle sizes. The equilibrium adsorption capacity reached 15.98 mg/g at 4 mm, representing a 45.01% improvement compared to 0.2 mm. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model effectively described the adsorption kinetics. No significant differences were observed in the specific surface area and pore size distribution of all samples. Thermogravimetric quantitative analysis revealed that larger particle sizes retained interlayer water more effectively. As the particle size decreased, the interlayer water content generally showed a decreasing trend. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy analysis also indicated that the -OH groups in larger particle sizes exhibited higher stability. The results suggest that the high content and stability of -OH groups may be key factors in the enhanced adsorption performance for Pb2+. This provides new insights for the preparation of environmentally friendly adsorbent materials rich in hydroxyl groups. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, a glaze slurry was prepared with different contents of tricalcium phosphate. It was then applied to a fly ash microcrystalline ceramic billet and sintered at 1180 °C for 30 min to prepare the complex. The aim was to obtain a high value-added application of fly ash in order to reduce environmental pollution. The study systematically investigated the influence of the Ca3(PO4)2 content on the crystal phase evolution, physical-mechanical properties, and micro-morphology of the complex. The results showed that products sintered at 1180 °C with 8 wt% Ca3(PO4)2 demonstrated better performance, with a water absorption of 0.03% and a Vickers microhardness of 6.5 GPa. Additionally, the study observed a strong correlation between the Ca3(PO4)2 content and the opacity effect. A feasible opacity mechanism was also proposed to explain the variation of glaze colors and patterns with different contents of Ca3(PO4)2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MgO–Al2O3–SiO2 foam ceramics were prepared by direct sintering of asbestos tailings and coal fly ash by spontaneous bubble process. By X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and thermodynamic analysis, the effect of Fe2O3 decomposition on the preparation of foaming ceramics from industrial solid waste and the pore‐forming process was studied. The results show that the foaming effect of foaming ceramics with higher raw iron content is better when the roasting temperature is higher. Increasing the content of iron is beneficial to the formation of cordierite, and increasing the roasting temperature is beneficial to the relative content of spinel in foaming ceramics. Combined with the change in the Fe valence state, content in porous ceramic samples, and thermodynamic analysis of the product, it is found that Fe2O3 decomposition is the fundamental cause of ceramic foaming at high temperature. Fe2+ produced after decomposition replaces Mg2+ into spinel and cordierite structures, and the O2 produced by decomposition cannot be discharged in time to cause ceramic foaming.
