Abstract The lack of a simple design strategy to obtain ideal conjugated polymers (CPs) with high absorbance and fluorescence (FL) in the near-infrared-II (NIR-II; 1000–1700 nm) region still hampers the success of NIR-II light-triggered phototheranostics. Herein, novel phototheranostic nanoparticles (PPN-NO NPs) were successfully prepared by coloading a cationic NIR-II CPs (PBC-co-PBF-NMe3) and a NO donor (S-nitroso-N-acetylpenicillamine, SNAP) onto a 1:1 mixture of DSPE-PEG5000 and dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine (DMPC) for NIR-II FL and NIR-II photoacoustic (PA) imaging-guided low-temperature NIR-II photothermal therapy (PTT) and gas combination therapy for cancer treatment. A precise NIR-II FL dually enhanced design tactic was proposed herein by integrating flexible nonconjugated segments (C6) into the CPs backbone and incorporating quaternary ammonium salt cationic units into the CPs side chain, which considerably increased the radiative decay pathway, resulting in desirable NIR-II FL intensity and balanced NIR-II absorption and NIR PTT properties. The phototheranostic PPN-NO NPs exhibited distinguished NIR-II FL and PA imaging performance in tumor-bearing mice models. Furthermore, the low-temperature photothermal effect of PPN-NO NPs could initiate NO release upon 980 nm laser irradiation, efficiently suppressing tumor growth owing to the combination of low-temperature NIR-II PTT and NO gas therapy in vitro and in vivo. Abstract Speed curve planning is one of the most important functions of automatic train operation (ATO). To improve the real‐time optimization capability and driver‐friendliness of the existing ATO, an extended ATO framework considering both automatic driving and assisted driving is designed. A multi‐objective optimization model based on quadratic programming is established considering energy‐saving, punctuality, and comfort. However, due to the influence of the weight of multi‐objectives, this method cannot directly obtain the speed curve satisfying the trip time constraint. Further, based on the analysis about the weight of multi‐objects, a time‐constrained quadratic programming algorithm is proposed. With the proposed method, the speed curve can be calculated in real‐time both before operations and during operations. For the former, time‐varying train mass and trip time are considered to guarantee an optimal solution. For the latter, deviations, delays, and maloperations on the way are corrected. Simulation experiments verify the solvability and real‐time performance of the proposed method. In particular, compared with the dynamic programming and (mixed‐integer linear programming) MILP method, the proposed method is more energy‐efficient and easier to be followed by the driver. In addition, a prototype is developed for commercial tests on a Beijing subway line. The relevant performance is verified in commercial tests.

Abstract Senescent cell clearance is emerging as a promising strategy for treating age-related diseases. Senolytics are small molecules that promote the clearance of senescent cells; however, senolytics are uncommon and their underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown. Here, we investigated whether genomic instability is a potential target for senolytic. We screened small-molecule kinase inhibitors involved in the DNA damage response (DDR) in Zmpste24 −/− mouse embryonic fibroblasts, a progeroid model characterized with impaired DDR and DNA repair. 4,5,6,7-tetrabromo-2-azabenzamidazole (TBB), which specifically inhibits casein kinase 2 (CK2), was selected and discovered to preferentially trigger apoptosis in Zmpste24 −/− cells. Mechanistically, inhibition of CK2 abolished the phosphorylation of heterochromatin protein 1α (HP1α), which retarded the dynamic HP1α dissociation from repressive histone mark H3K9me3 and its relocalization with γH2AX to DNA damage sites, suggesting that disrupting heterochromatin remodeling in the initiation of DDR accelerates apoptosis in senescent cells. Furthermore, feeding Zmpste24-deficient mice with TBB alleviated progeroid features and extended their lifespan. Our study identified TBB as a new class senolytic compound that can reduce age-related symptoms and prolong lifespan in progeroid mice.

Abstract Photocatalytic coupling of methane to ethane and ethylene (C2 compounds) offers a promising approach to utilizing the abundant methane resource. However, the state-of-the-art photocatalysts usually suffer from very limited C2 formation rates. Here, we report our discovery that the anatase TiO2 nanocrystals mainly exposing {101} facets, which are generally considered less active in photocatalysis, demonstrate surprisingly better performances than those exposing the high-energy {001} facet. The palladium co-catalyst plays a pivotal role and the Pd2+ site on co-catalyst accounts for the selective C2 formation. We unveil that the anatase {101} facet favors the formation of hydroxyl radicals in aqueous phase near the surface, where they activate methane molecules into methyl radicals, and the Pd2+ site participates in facilitating the adsorption and coupling of methyl radicals. This work provides a strategy to design efficient nanocatalysts for selective photocatalytic methane coupling by reaction-space separation to optimize heterogeneous-homogeneous reactions at solid-liquid interfaces.

Abstract The main objective of this study was to investigate the incidence and characteristics of electrocardiographic abnormalities in patients with microtia, and to explore cardiac maldevelopment associated with microtia. This retrospective study analyzed a large cohort of microtia patients admitted to Plastic Surgery Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, from September 2017 to August 2022. The routine electrocardiographic reports of these patients were reviewed to assess the incidence and characteristics of abnormalities. The study included a total of 10,151 patients (5598 in the microtia group and 4553 in the control group) who were admitted to the Plastic Surgery Hospital of Peking Union Medical College. Abstract Notable-HCC (NCT05185531) is a phase 1b trial, aiming to evaluate the safety and preliminary effectiveness of neoadjuvant PD-1 blockade plus stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) in early-stage resectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Twenty patients with HCC of BCLC stage 0-A received 3 $$\times $$ × Gy SBRT and two cycles of tislelizumab, an anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibody before the curative HCC resection. Primary endpoints were the surgery delay, radiographic and pathological tumor response after the neoadjuvant therapy, safety and tolerability. During the neoadjuvant therapy, treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) of grade 1-2 occurred in all 20 patients (100%), eight patients (40%) had grade 3 TRAEs, no grade 4 to 5 TRAE occurred, and all resolved without corticosteroids treatment. Per mRECIST, the objective response rate was 63.2% (12/19), with 3 complete response; the disease control rate was 100%. Two (10.5%) patients achieved complete pathological response. No surgery delay occurred. The neoadjuvant therapy did not increase the surgical difficulty or the incidence of complications. Secondary endpoints of disease-free survival and overall survival were not mature at the time of the analysis. Our pilot trial shows that neoadjuvant therapy with anti-PD-1 + SBRT is safe and promotes tumor responses in early-stage resectable HCC.

Abstract Background The treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients exhibiting high-risk characteristics (Vp4, and/or bile duct invasion, and/or tumor occupancy ≥ 50%) lacks standardized approaches and yields unfavorable results. This study endeavors to evaluate the safety, efficacy, and prognostic impacts of employing hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC), lenvatinib, and humanized programmed death receptor-1 (PD-1) in the treatment of high-risk HCC patients. Methods In this retrospective analysis, HCC patients with high-risk features were treated with either lenvatinib combined with PD-1 (LEN-PD1) or a combination of HAIC, lenvatinib, and PD-1 (HAIC-LEN-PD1). The study assessed the antitumor efficacy by calculating overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), objective response rate (ORR), and disease control rate (DCR). Treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) were analyzed to assess the safety profiles. Results Between June 2019 and September 2022, a total of 61 patients were included in the LEN-PD1 group, while 103 patients were enrolled in the HAIC-LEN-PD1 group. Abstract Photothermal immunotherapy is regarded as the ideal cancer therapeutic modality to against malignant solid tumors; however, its therapeutic benefits are often modest and require improvement. In this study, a thermoresponsive nanoparticle (BTN@LND) composed of a photothermal agent (PTA) and pyroptosis inducer (lonidamine) were developed to enhance immunotherapy applications. Specifically, our “two-step” donor engineering strategy produced the strong NIR-II-absorbing organic small-molecule PTA (BTN) that exhibited high NIR-II photothermal performance (ε1064 = 1.51 × 104 M−1 cm−1, η = 75.8%), and this facilitates the diagnosis and treatment of deep tumor tissue. Moreover, the fabricated thermally responsive lipid nanoplatform based on BTN efficiently delivered lonidamine to the tumor site and achieved spatiotemporal release triggered by the NIR-II photothermal effect. In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated that the NIR-II photothermal therapy (PTT)-mediated on-demand release of cargo effectively faciliated tumor cell pyroptosis, thereby intensifying the immunogenic cell death (ICD) process to promote antitumor immunotherapy. As a result, this intelligent component bearing photothermal and chemotherapy can maximally suppress the growth of tumors, thus providing a promising approach for pyroptosis/NIR-II PTT synergistic therapy against tumors. Abstract Multidrug resistance to clinical chemotherapeutic drugs severely limits antitumor efficacy and patient survival. The integration of chemotherapy with photothermal therapy (PTT) and reactive nitrogen species has become a major strategy to enhance cancer treatment efficacy. Herein, a multifunctional peroxynitrite (ONOO−) nanogenerator (PBT/NO/Pt) for NIR‐II fluorescence (NIR‐II FL)/NIR‐II photoacoustic (NIR‐II PA) imaging‐guided chemo/NIR‐II PTT/ONOO− combination therapy is reported. The multifunction nanogenerator is developed by co‐loading a pH‐sensitive nitric oxide donor (DETA NONOate) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidases trigger superoxide (O2•−) generator chemotherapy drug (CDDP) to an NIR‐II excitation‐conjugated polyelectrolyte (PNC11BA). PNC11BA has non‐conjugated alkyl chain segments in the polymer backbone and abundant positively charged phenylboronic acid in its side chains, which support the anti‐quenching of NIR‐II FL and the integration of DETA NONOate and CDDP into PBT/NO/Pt. In the acidic tumor microenvironment, the coordination bonds between CDDP and PNC11BA are cleaved, releasing CDDP for chemotherapeutic activity. The simultaneous release of nitric oxide (NO) and O2•− rapidly leads to the in situ generation of the more cytotoxic reactive physiological nitrogen species ONOO−. In vitro and in vivo results prove that PBT/NO/Pt exhibited a markedly ONOO− enhanced chemo–photothermal synergistic therapy for SKOV3/DDP tumor by downregulating the intracellular glutathione and increasing CDDP–DNA adducts.

Objective: To develop a model combining clinical and radiomics features from CT scans for a preoperative noninvasive evaluation of Huvos grading of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with HOS. Methods: 183 patients from center A and 42 from center B were categorized into training and validation sets. Features derived from radiomics were obtained from unenhanced CT scans.Following dimensionality reduction, the most optimal features were selected and utilized in creating a radiomics model through logistic regression analysis. Integrating clinical features, a composite clinical radiomics model was developed, and a nomogram was constructed. Predictive performance of the model was evaluated using ROC curves and calibration curves. Additionally, decision curve analysis was conducted to assess practical utility of nomogram in clinical settings. Results: LASSO LR analysis was performed, and finally, three selected image omics features were obtained.Radiomics model yielded AUC values with a good diagnostic effect for both patient sets (AUCs: 0.69 and 0.68, respectively). Clinical models (including sex, age, pre-chemotherapy ALP and LDH levels, new lung metastases within 1 year after surgery, and incidence) performed well in terms of Huvos grade prediction, with an AUC of 0.74 for training set. The AUC for independent validation set stood at 0.70. Notably, the amalgamation of radiomics and clinical features exhibited commendable predictive prowess in training set, registering an AUC of 0.78. This robust performance was subsequently validated in the independent validation set, where the AUC remained high at 0.75. Calibration curves of nomogram showed that the predictions were in good agreement with actual observations. Conclusion: Combined model can be used for Huvos grading in patients with HOS after preoperative chemotherapy, which is helpful for adjuvant treatment decisions.

The severe erosion and inadequate mechanical strength are prominent challenges for high-energy gun propellants. To address it, novel PTW@PDA composites was prepared by polydopamine(PDA)-modifying onto potassium titanate whisker(PTW, K2Ti6O13), and after was incorporated into gun propellant as erosion-reducing and mechanical-reinforcing fillers. The interfacial characterizations results indicated that as-prepared PTW@PDA composites exhibits an enhanced surface compatible with propellant matrix, thereby facilitating their dispersion into propellants more effectively than raw PTW materials. Compared to original propellants, PTW@PDA-modified propellants exhibited significant less erosion, with a Ti–K-based protective coating being detected on the eroded steel. And 0.5 wt% and 1.0 wt% addition of PTW@PDA significantly improved impact, compressive and tensile strength of propellants. Despite the inevitably reduction in relative force, PTW@PDA slightly increase propellant burning rate while exerting little adverse impact on propellant dynamic activity. This strategy can provide a promising alternative to develop high-energy gun propellant with less erosion and more mechanical strength.

Abstract In urban railway systems, the timetable guides the section operation of the single train and the arrangement of the train group to meet the dual needs of cost and passengers. This paper proposes a two‐objective train operation optimization based on eco‐driving and timetabling to restore a more realistic scene, including a method level and an objective level. For the method level, the speed curve optimization of the single train and the timetable optimization of the train group are adopted jointly. For the objective level, both the total energy consumption of the train group and the consuming time of passengers are considered. A hybrid solution strategy based on quadratic programming and improved artificial bee colony algorithm is proposed. A hardware‐in‐the‐loop platform is built to carry out validation experiments. Both the cases in general hours and special hours are verified based on the actual data from Beijing Metro Line 15. The results show that both the energy consumption and the passenger consuming time are reduced simultaneously. Correspondingly, the speed curve and the time distribution of the timetable are individually optimized based on the fluctuating passenger flow.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of small non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) that typically consist of 19–25 nucleotides in length. These molecules function as essential regulators of gene expression by selectively binding to complementary target sequences within messenger RNA (mRNA) molecules, consequently exerting a negative impact on gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. By modulating the stability and translation efficiency of target mRNAs, miRNAs play pivotal roles in diverse biological processes, including the intricate orchestration of organ development. Among these processes, the development of the kidney has emerged as a key area of interest regarding miRNA function. Intriguingly, recent investigations have uncovered a subset of miRNAs that exhibit remarkably high expression levels in the kidney, signifying their close association with kidney development and diseases affecting this vital organ. This growing body of evidence strongly suggests that miRNAs serve as crucial regulators, actively shaping both the physiological processes governing kidney function and the pathological events leading to renal disorders. This comprehensive review aims to provide an up-to-date overview of the latest research progress regarding miRNAs and their involvement in kidney development. By examining the intricate interplay between miRNAs and the molecular pathways driving kidney development, this review seeks to elucidate the underlying mechanisms through which miRNAs exert their regulatory functions. Furthermore, an in-depth exploration of the role played by miRNAs in the occurrence and progression of renal dysplasia will be presented. Renal dysplasia represents a significant developmental anomaly characterized by abnormal kidney tissue formation, and miRNAs have emerged as key players in this pathological process. By shedding light on the intricate network of miRNA-mediated regulatory mechanisms involved in kidney dysplasia, this review aims to provide valuable insights for the diagnosis and research of diseases associated with aberrant kidney development.

Background: Low-dose colchicine has been shown to lower major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) among those with cardiovascular disease (CVD). It remains unclear how long a CVD patient needs to live to potentially benefit from colchicine. Our study aimed to determine the time to benefit (TTB) of colchicine in individuals with CVD. Methods: Literature searches were performed in PubMed for the cardiovascular outcome trial of colchicine in patients with CVD until October 12, 2023. The primary outcome measured was MACE. Reconstructed individual participant data (IPD) and the stratified Cox proportional hazards model were used to calculate the hazard ratio (HR) and 95 % confidence interval (CI) to estimate the efficacy of colchicine, and Weibull survival curves were fitted to estimate TTB for specific absolute risk reduction (ARR) thresholds (0.002, 0.005, and 0.01). Results: Four trials randomizing 11,594 adults aged between 59.8 and 66.5 years were included (follow-up duration: 12–28.6 months). Compared with placebo, colchicine reduced the risk of MACE (HR 0.68, 95 % CI: 0.60 to 0.78) but had no impact on cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. A TTB of 11.0 months (95 % CI: 0.59 to 21.3) was estimated to be needed to prevent 1 MACE in 100-colchicine-treated patients. The TTB for acute coronary syndrome was similar compared to stable coronary artery disease (10.7 vs. 11.2 months for ARR = 0.010). Conclusions: By using reconstructed IPD, this pooled analysis demonstrated that colchicine was associated with reduced nonfatal MACE, and the TTB was approximately 11.0 months to prevent 1 MACE per 100 patients.

IntroductionAtmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition can impact the levels of soil organic carbon (SOC) and total nitrogen (total N) by altering the soil N availability. However, the effect of N input on the mineralization of SOC and total N in various soil aggregate size fractions requires further clarification.MethodsThe soil samples were collected from a Pinus massoniana plantation situated in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area of China. Over a period of three years, the soils from the plantation were subjected to four different levels of nitrogen addition (0 [N0], 30 [N30], 60 [N60], and 90 [N90] kg N ha−1 yr−1). The impact of N addition on the mineralization of SOC and total N in aggregates was evaluated through an incubation experiment, encompassing four aggregate sizes (2000 − 8000, 1000 − 2000, 250 − 1000, and < 250 μm).ResultsThe < 250 μm fraction showed the highest levels of cumulative C mineralization, while the lowest levels were observed in the 2000 − 8000 μm fraction. Compared to the < 250 um fraction, a drop of 9 − 21% in cumulative C mineralization was observed in the 2000 − 8000 μm fraction, indicating that soil aggregates enhance the stability of C in the soil. Cumulative N mineralization levels were consistently at their lowest in the 2000 − 8000 μm fraction, indicating aggregates reducing mineralization-related N loss. Adding N to forest soil samples led to a reduction in cumulative C mineralization. In contrast, an opposite trend was observed in the cumulative N mineralization after adding N in microaggregates. Nitrification was the main contributor to net N mineralization. SOC and total levels increased in response to N30 and N60. N addition leads to an increase in the weight ratio of the 1000 − 2000 μm fraction. Moreover, N90 was linked to decreases in microbial biomass C and N.DiscussionThese findings confirm that the structural characteristics of soil aggregates play a crucial role in sequestering organic carbon and total N sequestration in the presence of N deposition, while highlighting N loss from the soil caused by N input.

Abstract Drug-resistant bacterial biofilm infections (BBIs) are refractory to elimination. Near-infrared-II photothermal therapy (NIR-II PTT) and chemodynamic therapy (CDT) are emerging antibiofilm approaches because of the heavy damage they inflict upon bacterial membrane structures and minimal drug-resistance. Hence, synergistic NIR-II PTT and CDT hold great promise for enhancing the therapeutic efficacy of BBIs. Herein, we propose a biofilm microenvironment (BME)-responsive nanoplatform, BTFB@Fe@Van, for use in the synergistic NIR-II PTT/CDT/antibiotic treatment of BBIs. BTFB@Fe@Van was prepared through the self-assembly of phenylboronic acid (PBA)-modified small-molecule BTFB, vancomycin, and the CDT catalyst Fe2+ ions in DSPE-PEG2000. Vancomycin was conjugated with BTFB through a pH-sensitive PBA-diol interaction, while the Fe2+ ions were bonded to the sulfur and nitrogen atoms of BTFB. The PBA-diol bonds decomposed in the acidic BME, simultaneously freeing the vancomycin and Fe2+ irons. Subsequently, the catalytic product hydroxyl radical was generated by the Fe2+ ions in the oxidative BME overexpressed with H2O2. Moreover, under 1064 nm laser, BTFB@Fe@Van exhibited outstanding hyperthermia and accelerated the release rate of vancomycin and the efficacy of CDT. Furthermore, the BTFB@Fe@Van nanoplatform enabled the precise NIR-II imaging of the infected sites. Both in-vitro and in-vivo experiments demonstrated that BTFB@Fe@Van possesses a synergistic NIR-II PTT/CDT/antibiotic mechanism against BBIs.

Fly ash, a type of solid waste generated in power plants, can be utilized as a catalyst carrier to enhance its value-added potential. Common methods often involve using a large amount of alkali for preprocessing, resulting in stable quartz and mullite forming silicate dissolution. This leads to an increased specific surface area and pore structure. In this study, we produced a catalyst composed of MnOx/NiOOH supported on fly ash by directly employing nickel hydroxide and potassium permanganate to generate metal active sites over the fly ash surface while simultaneously creating a larger specific surface area and pore structure. The ozone catalytic oxidation performance of this catalyst was evaluated using sodium acetate as the target organic matter. The experimental results demonstrated that an optimal removal efficiency of 57.5% for sodium acetate was achieved, surpassing even that of MnOx/NiOOH supported catalyst by using γ-Al2O3. After loading of MnOx/NiOOH, an oxygen vacancy is formed on the surface of fly ash, which plays an indirect oxidation effect on sodium acetate due to the transformation of ozone to •O2− and •OH over this oxygen vacancy. The reaction process parameters, including varying concentrations of ozone, sodium acetate, and catalyst dosage, as well as pH value and the quantitative analysis of formed free radicals, were examined in detail. This work demonstrated that fly ash could be used as a viable catalytic material for wastewater treatment and provided a new solution to the added value of fly ash.

BackgroundThere has been a substantial increase in incidence of thyroid cancer globally over the past three decades, emphasizing the necessity for efficient surgical management. Surgical intervention requires meticulous lymphatic dissection; however, it is challenging to both accurately identify lymph nodes and preserve the surrounding structures. We investigated the role of carbon nanoparticles in endoscopic thyroid cancer surgery to improve surgical effects and reduce postoperative complications.MethodsChinese and English literature databases from inception to May 2023 were searched based on inclusion criteria, and data were extracted independently by two investigators. STATA software was used for data analysis.ResultsA comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted with 13 publications (9 randomized and 4 non-randomized controlled trials). The results demonstrated that the application of carbon nanoparticles in thyroid surgery led to an increase in the number of retrieved lymph nodes and identification of metastatic lymph nodes. Furthermore, it considerably reduced the rate of improper parathyroidectomy and the incidence of postoperative hypocalcemia.ConclusionThe application of carbon nanoparticles can effectively improve the effects of surgical treatment, can enhance the identification of intraoperative lymph nodes, reduce postoperative complications, and protect the integrity and function of the parathyroid gland.Systematic Review Registrationwww.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO, identifier, CRD42023420504.

This study proposes an uncertainty quantification method based on deep neural networks and Catmull–Clark subdivision surfaces for vibroacoustic problems. The deep neural networks are utilized as a surrogate model to efficiently generate samples for stochastic analysis. The training data are obtained from numerical simulation by coupling the isogeometric finite element method and the isogeometric boundary element method. In the simulation, the geometric models are constructed with Catmull–Clark subdivision surfaces, and meantime, the physical fields are discretized with the same spline functions as used in geometric modelling. Multiple deep neural networks are trained to predict the sound pressure response for various parameters with different numbers and dimensions in vibroacoustic problems. Numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

ObjectivesCognitive impairment has emerged as a major contributing factor to mortality for older adults. Identifying the strong modifiable health metrics against mortality is of high priority, especially in this high-risk population.MethodsThis population-based study used data of US adults aged≥60 years old from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2011–2014 cycles. De-identified data for participants who completed cognitive function test were extracted. Mortality data was obtained by linking to the 2019 public-use linked mortality file.ResultsParticipants with low global cognition had higher risk of all-cause mortality (HR = 1.46; 95%CI, 1.04–2.05). The highest prevalence of ideal level of health metrics was observed for sleep duration (54.36% vs. 62.37%), and the lowest was noted for blood pressure (12.06% vs. 21.25%) for participants with low and average to high global cognition, respectively. Ideal status of physical activity and diet quality were significantly associated with all-cause mortality among participants with low global cognition (HR = 0.48, 95%CI: 0.28–0.82; HR = 0.63, 95%CI: 0.43–0.95). The corresponding population-attributable fractions were 26.58 and 15.90%, respectively.ConclusionLow cognitive function was associated with increased risk of all-cause death for older adults. Attainment of healthy metrics, especially sufficient physical activity, consuming healthy diet and being never smoked, provided strong protection against death risk.

Single-based propellants containing 0.4 wt%, 0.8 wt% and 1.6 wt% nickel powders(NPs) were prepared and investigated in closed bomb tester and transparent combustion chamber, which can provide variable-pressure and constant-pressure conditions for propellant burning, respectively. In closed bomb tester, propellants burned to a pressure above 5–220 MPa. The results showed that burning rate of propellants was increased by 19.0 %, 12.5 % and 11.9 % in 5–8 MPa, 8–16 MPa and 20–200 MPa, when 1.6 wt% NPs used in propellant. Meanwhile, propellants burning in combustion chamber were with a constant pressure of 1.0 MPa, 1.5 MPa, 2.0 MPa, 3.0 MPa and 5.0 MPa. The burning rate of propellants can be increased by NPs in 1.0–5.0 MPa. While the catalytic efficiency(Z) had high dependence on NPs contents and burning pressure. At 5.0 MPa, 0.4 wt%, 0.8 wt% and 1.6 wt% of NPs enhanced burning rate of propellants by 42 %, 44 % and 68 % than that of original propellants. In pressure below 3.0 MPa, burning rate of propellants cannot be increased with 0.4 wt% and 0.8 wt% NPs, but that can be enhanced with 1.6 wt% NPs, suggested that higher NPs content and higher pressure were conducive to catalytic effect, which was significant with the pressure above 5 MPa. Furthermore, after NPs incorporating into propellant, the distance from flame zone to propellant burning surface was significantly reduced. And the potential catalytic mechanism was proposed.

Abstract Here, a distributed multi‐body dynamics model of high‐speed train (HST) with actuator faults is established. Based on this detail model, a non‐singular terminal sliding mode control method is designed for HST distributed fault‐tolerant control, and the stability of the proposed controller is proved strictly. Considering the high uncertainty of the distributed dynamics model, a radial basis function neural network is introduced to approximate the system uncertainties. Then a universal fuzzy system is proposed to eliminate the chattering problem from sliding mode controller in train control, which further improves the comfort of the train. Finally, numerical simulations are carried out using data from CRH380B train, and model reference adaptive control (MRAC) and adaptive sliding mode control are also tested under the same condition for performance comparison. The results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed controller. Compared with existing MRAC, the root mean square of the speed and position tracking error are reduced by 23.4% and 52%, respectively.

Abstract The visualization of bone imaging in vivo is of great significance for the understanding of some bone-related diseases or physiological processes. Herein, a bone-targeted NIR-II small molecule (TTQF-SO3), which was modified with multiple sulfonate groups, was successfully fabricated for the second near-infrared (NIR-II) bone imaging. In vitro studies revealed that TTQF-SO3 showed high affinity for hydroxyapatite and excellent macrophage accumulation ability. In in vivo assays, TTQF-SO3 displayed high bone uptake ability and high NIR-II bone imaging quality, demonstrating the specific bone-targeting ability of the sulfonate-containing probe. In addition, the noninvasive NIR-II imaging detection in bone calcium loss was successfully verified in osteoporosis mice models. Moreover, the negative charge characteristic of TTQF-SO3 showed efficient lymphoid enrichment in living mice by intravenous injection. Overall, these warrant that our TTQF-SO3 is an optimal bone-targeted diagnostic agent for high-quality NIR-II imaging, highlighting its potential promise for clinical translation. Graphical Abstract

Abstract The efficiency of the train traction system (TTS) changes dynamically with operating conditions. In this paper, a more realistic dynamic efficiency model of TTS is established considering the power flow and non‐linear loss of TTS. Based on the real model, the optimal control problem of the train with the minimum electric power consumption on the grid side is constructed. The optimal control condition (OCC) and corresponding control force are derived based on the Pontryagin maximum principle (PMP). A dynamic programming algorithm (DP2) with the OCC curve as the state space is designed to obtain optimal results. The proposed model and the method are validated by the comparison of conventional dynamic programming (DP1) and automatic train operation (ATO) measured data. The simulation results show that compared with the traditional TTS constant efficiency model, considering that the TTS dynamic efficiency model has a better energy‐saving effect, and the designed DP2 algorithm has a more obvious energy‐saving effect than DP1.

The increasing production and utilization of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and commercial silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have raised concerns about their potential environmental release, with coastal sediments as a substantial sink. To better understanding the effects of these contaminants on denitrification processes in coastal marine sediments, a short-term exposure simulation experiment was conducted. We investigated the effects of single and combined contamination of phenanthrene (Phe) and AgNPs on denitrification processes in a coastal marine sediment. Results showed that all contaminated treatment groups had different degrees of inhibitory effect on denitrification activity, denitrifying enzyme activity, total bacteria count and denitrifying genes. The inhibitory effect sequence of each treatment group was combined treatment > AgNPs treatment > Phe treatment. Moreover, the inhibitory effects of denitrifying genes were much larger than that of total bacteria count, indicating that the pollutants had specific toxic effects on denitrifying bacteria. The sequence of sensitivity of three reduction process to pollutants was N2O > NO2− > NO3−. All contaminated treatment groups could increase NO3−, NO2− and N2O accumulation. Furthermore, according to the linear relationship between functional gene or reductase and denitrification process, we also found that the abundance of denitrifying genes could better predict the influence of Phe and AgNPs on sediment denitrification than the denitrifying bacterial diversity. In addition, at the genus level, the community structure of nirS- and nosZ-type denitrifying bacteria changed dramatically, while changes at the phylum level were comparatively less pronounced. Single and combined contamination of Phe and AgNPs could reduce the dominance of Pseudomonas, which may lead to a potential slow-down in the degradation of Phe and inhibition of denitrification, especially the combined contamination. Overall, our study revealed that combined contamination of Phe and AgNPs could lead to an increase in NO3−, NO2− and N2O accumulation in coastal sediment, which poses a risk of eutrophication in coastal areas, exacerbates the greenhouse effect and has adverse effects on global climate change.

For a long time, the decline in agricultural comparative returns and the urban–rural development gap in China have prompted the outflow of rural labor. Land transfer policies, which allow farmers to retain their land contracting rights while transferring their management rights, were instituted to mitigate the impact of labor outflow on land use and agricultural production. In recent years, tourism has contributed to the diversification of the rural economy and has had an essential impact on the urban–rural allocation of elements such as labor. In this paper, we adopt a probit model to investigate the impact of tourism development on rural land transfer-out by using data from the China Family Panel Studies. The results show that the marginal effect of tourism development is significantly negative, indicating that the probability of rural land transfer-out was significantly reduced with tourism development. The results are still valid after a series of robustness tests. A mechanism analysis indicates that tourism development inhibits land transfer by enhancing local vitality, such as increasing the local employment of rural labor and promoting participation in agricultural production. Moreover, from the perspective of rural welfare and asset prices, further research finds that tourism development contributes to poverty alleviation and increases land value. These results suggest that tourism development inhibits land transfer while promoting rural sustainable development, helping to understand the impact of tourism on rural land use and household asset allocation from a more comprehensive perspective.

Climate change has had an almost irreversible impact on the distribution patterns of tree species on the Tibetan Plateau, driving some vulnerable species to the brink of extinction. Therefore, it is important to assess the vulnerability of tree species in climate-sensitive areas under the following three IPCC-CMIP6 scenarios: SSP126, SSP370, and SSP585. The MaxEnt model was used to predict adaptive distribution for one endangered (Acer wardii W. W. Smith (A. wardii)) and six vulnerable maple plants on the Tibetan Plateau under current and future conditions. We then evaluated their vulnerability using the landscape fragmentation index. Our results showed that the current adaptive areas of vulnerable maple species were mainly distributed in the southeast of the Tibetan Plateau. The dominant factors affecting adaptive areas were temperature annual range (BIO7) for Acer sikkimense Miq. and Acer sterculiaceum Wall.; annual precipitation (BIO12) for Acer cappadocicum Gled.; precipitation of driest month (BIO14) for Acer pectinatum Wall. ex G. Nicholson, Acer taronense Hand.-Mazz., and A. wardii; and subsoil clay fraction (S_CLAY) for Acer campbellii Hook.f. & Thoms. ex Hiern (A. campbellii) Under the three future scenarios, the adaptive areas of maple on the Tibetan Plateau area shifted to the northwest, and habitat suitability increased in the northwestern part of the adaptive areas. In the SSP370 scenario, all seven species showed an increase in adaptive areas, while certain species decreased in some periods under the SSP126 and SSP585 scenarios. The status of the endangered maple species is likely to be even more fragile under the three future scenarios. A. wardii and A. campbellii are more vulnerable and may face extinction, requiring immediate attention and protection. In contrast, the vulnerability of the remaining five species decreased. In conclusion, this study provides recommendations for conserving vulnerable maple species on the Tibetan Plateau. Our data support understanding the distributional changes and vulnerability assessment of these tree species.

Abstract Aim To understand the proportion of uHCC (unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma) patients who achieve successful conversion resection in a high-volume setting with state of the art treatment options. Methods We retrospectively reviewed all HCC patients hospitalized to our center from June 1st, 2019 to June 1st, 2022. Conversion rate, clinicopathological features, response to systemic and/or loco-regional therapy and surgical outcomes were analyzed. Results A total of 1,904 HCC patients were identified, with 1672 patients receiving anti-HCC treatment. 328 patients were considered up-front resectable. Of the remaining 1344 uHCC patients, 311 received loco-regional treatment, 224 received systemic treatment, and the remainder (809) received combination systemic plus loco-regional treatment. Following treatment, one patient from the systemic group and 25 patients from the combination group were considered to have resectable disease. A high objective response rate (ORR) was observed in these converted patients (42.3% under RECIST v1.1 and 76.9% under mRECIST criteria). The disease control rate (DCR) reached 100%. 23 patients underwent curative hepatectomy. Major post-operative morbidity was equivalent in the both groups (P=0.76). Pathologic complete response (pCR) was 39.1%. During conversion treatment, grade 3 or higher treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) were observed in 50% of patients. The median follow-up time was 12.9 months (range, 3.9~40.6) from index diagnosis and 11.4 months (range, 0.9~26.9) from resection. Three patients experienced disease recurrence following conversion surgery. Conclusions By intensive treatment, a small sub-group of uHCC patients (2%) may potentially be converted to curative resection. Loco-regional combined with systemic modality was relative safe and effective in the conversion therapy. Short-term outcomes are encouraging, but long-term follow-up in a larger patient population are required to fully understand the utility of this approach.

Spiking neural networks (SNNs), which are composed of biologically plausible spiking neurons, and combined with bio-physically realistic auditory periphery models, offer a means to explore and understand human auditory processing-especially in tasks where precise timing is essential. However, because of the inherent temporal complexity in spike sequences, the performance of SNNs has remained less competitive compared to artificial neural networks (ANNs). To tackle this challenge, a fundamental research topic is the configuration of spike-timing and the exploration of more intricate architectures. In this work, we demonstrate a learnable axonal delay combined with local skip-connections yields state-of-the-art performance on challenging benchmarks for spoken word recognition. Additionally, we introduce an auxiliary loss term to further enhance accuracy and stability. Experiments on the neuromorphic speech benchmark datasets, NTIDIDIGITS and SHD, show improvements in performance when incorporating our delay module in comparison to vanilla feedforward SNNs. Specifically, with the integration of our delay module, the performance on NTIDIDIGITS and SHD improves by 14% and 18%, respectively. When paired with local skip-connections and the auxiliary loss, our approach surpasses both recurrent and convolutional neural networks, yet uses 10 × fewer parameters for NTIDIDIGITS and 7 × fewer for SHD.

ObjectiveTraditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been used for the treatment of chronic liver diseases for a long time, with proven safety and efficacy in clinical settings. Previous studies suggest that the therapeutic mechanism of TCM for hepatitis B cirrhosis may involve the gut microbiota. Nevertheless, the causal relationship between the gut microbiota, which is closely linked to TCM, and cirrhosis remains unknown. This study aims to utilize two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) to investigate the potential causal relationship between gut microbes and cirrhosis, as well as to elucidate the synergistic mechanisms between botanical drugs and microbiota in treating cirrhosis.MethodsEight databases were systematically searched through May 2022 to identify clinical studies on TCM for hepatitis B cirrhosis. We analyzed the frequency, properties, flavors, and meridians of Chinese medicinals based on TCM theories and utilized the Apriori algorithm to identify the core botanical drugs for cirrhosis treatment. Cross-database comparison elucidated gut microbes sharing therapeutic targets with these core botanical drugs. MR analysis assessed consistency between gut microbiota causally implicated in cirrhosis and microbiota sharing therapeutic targets with key botanicals.ResultsOur findings revealed differences between the Chinese medicinals used for compensated and decompensated cirrhosis, with distinct frequency, dosage, properties, flavors, and meridian based on TCM theory. Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix Et Rhizoma, Poria, Paeoniae Radix Alba, Astragali Radix, Atrctylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma were the main botanicals. Botanical drugs and gut microbiota target MAPK1, VEGFA, STAT3, AKT1, RELA, JUN, and ESR1 in the treatment of hepatitis B cirrhosis, and their combined use has shown promise for cirrhosis treatment. MR analysis demonstrated a positive correlation between increased ClostridialesvadinBB60 and Ruminococcustorques abundance and heightened cirrhosis risk. In contrast, Eubacteriumruminantium, Lachnospiraceae, Eubacteriumnodatum, RuminococcaceaeNK4A214, Veillonella, and RuminococcaceaeUCG002 associated with reduced cirrhosis risk. Notably, Lachnospiraceae shares key therapeutic targets with core botanicals, which can treat cirrhosis at a causal level.ConclusionWe identified 6 core botanical drugs for managing compensated and decompensated hepatitis B cirrhosis, despite slight prescription differences. The core botanical drugs affected cirrhosis through multiple targets and pathways. The shared biological effects between botanicals and protective gut microbiota offer a potential explanation for the therapeutic benefits of these key herbal components in treating cirrhosis. Elucidating these mechanisms provides crucial insights to inform new drug development and optimize clinical therapy for hepatitis B cirrhosis.

Abstract In this paper, an equivalent multi‐body dynamics model of high‐speed train with uncertain parameter is established. Based on this detailed model and neural network minimum parameter learning algorithm, an adaptive sliding mode control method is designed for speed and position tracking control of high‐speed train, and the stability of the proposed control method is proved strictly. Then an adaptive fuzzy sliding mode control method (AFSMC) is presented to avoid chattering caused by excessive robust switching gain. Finally, numerical tests are carried out on the proposed AFSMC under different scenarios and operation strategies, and model reference adaptive control (MRAC), PID control and sliding mode control are also tested under the same condition for performance comparison. The results show that the proposed control method is superior to the currently used method. More specifically, compared with MRAC and PID, the average speed tracking accuracy of AFSMC is improved by 0.25 km/h and 0.18 km/h, and the average position tracking accuracy is improved by 0.68 m and 0.7 m, respectively.

To unify the local 3D point clouds for the measured object with big size or complex structure to a global coordinate system, we usually need to adopt global calibration approach to calibrate the transformation relationship between the global binocular vision sensor (GBVS) and measuring binocular sensor (MBS) in different viewpoints in the 3D Vision Measuring System (VMS). The field of view (FOV) of the two global cameras in GBVS determines the measurement range of the 3D VMS in the global calibration process. In the traditional 3D VMS of single-station multi-viewpoint, the measurement range is limited because of the two global cameras in the GBVS are needed to have a public FOV. Then, the global calibration process is also limited. And the global calibration process is complex and easy to cause error accumulation when a laser tracker is used to replace the GBVS in the 3D VMS. In order to solve this problem, we proposed a novel global calibration approach based on multi-directional target (MDT) for a novel designed 3D VMS. It can achieve the function of global calibration for the designed 3D VMS once the MDT appears in the FOV of the global camera. Finally, we adopt two global cameras which don’t need to have a public FOV to form GBVS. It can further expand the measurement range of the 3D VMS. And the global calibration efficiency can also be improved at the same time. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed global calibration algorithm are verified through experiments. The experimental results show that the accuracy of the proposed global calibration algorithm can reach up to 0.08 mm after optimizing. It has broad application prospects and practical theoretical research value.

Abstract On‐board energy storage devices (OESD) and energy‐efficient train timetabling (EETT) are considered two effective ways to improve the usage rate of regenerative braking energy (RBE) of subway trains. EETT is less costly but has lower ceilings, whereas OESD, although expensive, maximizes the reuse of RBE. To make the RBE usage rate of the train group reach the required target, a typical problem is how to use the OESD with the minimum capacity to reduce the cost. With this consideration, this paper proposes an optimization method that combines EETT and OESD. In this method, the joint optimization of timetable and OESD capacity allocation in case OESDs of different capacities can be carried between trains is considered to further improve the optimization. A non‐linear programming model is built to minimize the total OESD capacity of the train group under the constraint of reaching target RBE usage. An efficient heuristic algorithm is designed to simultaneously obtain the optimal timetable and the matching capacity allocation scheme of OESDs. Finally, some simulation cases based on real‐line data are designed to verify the effectiveness of the method.

Abstract Pulse wave velocity (PWV) is the most widely used measurement of arterial stiffness in clinical practice. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the relationships between carotid‐femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV) and brachial‐ankle PWV (baPWV) and the presence of carotid plaque. This study was designed cross‐sectionally and included 6027 participants from a community‐based cohort in Beijing. Logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate and compare the associations of cfPWV and baPWV with the presence of carotid plaque. The mean (SD) cfPWV and baPWV were 8.55 ± 1.83 and 16.79 ± 3.36, respectively. The prevalence of carotid plaque was 45.26% (n = 2728). Both cfPWV (per 1 m/s increase: OR = 1.11, 95% CI: 1.07–1.16) and baPWV (OR = 1.04, 95% CI: 1.02–1.06) were independently associated with carotid plaque after adjusting for various confounders. Compared with bottom quartile (cfPWV ≤7.31 m/s and baPWV ≤14.44 m/s), the top quartile of cfPWV and baPWV had a significantly higher prevalence of carotid plaque (for cfPWV: OR = 1.59, 95% CI: 1.32–1.92; for baPWV: OR = 1.53, 95% CI: 1.26–1.86). However, the relationship of baPWV and carotid plaque was nonlinear, with a positive trend only when baPWV

LIDAR is central to the perception systems of autonomous vehicles, but its performance is sensitive to adverse weather. An object detector trained by deep learning with the LIDAR point clouds in clear weather is not able to achieve satisfactory accuracy in adverse weather. Considering the fact that collecting LIDAR data in adverse weather like dusty storms is a formidable task, we propose a novel data augmentation framework based on physical simulation. Our model takes into account finite laser pulse width and beam divergence. The discrete dusty particles are distributed randomly in the surrounding of LIDAR sensors. The attenuation effects of scatters are represented implicitly with extinction coefficients. The coincidentally returned echoes from multiple particles are evaluated by explicitly superimposing their power reflected from each particle. Based on the above model, the position and intensity of real point clouds collected from dusty weather can be modified. Numerical experiments are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method.

Copper is an essential trace element that acts as a cofactor in various enzyme active sites in the human body. It participates in numerous life activities, including lipid metabolism, energy metabolism, and neurotransmitter synthesis. The proposal of “Cuproptosis” has made copper metabolism-related pathways a research hotspot in the field of tumor therapy, which has attracted great attention. This review discusses the biological processes of copper uptake, transport, and storage in human cells. It highlights the mechanisms by which copper metabolism affects hepatocellular carcinogenesis and metastasis, including autophagy, apoptosis, vascular invasion, cuproptosis, and ferroptosis. Additionally, it summarizes the current clinical applications of copper metabolism-related drugs in antitumor therapy.

Abstract The traction system efficiency of electrical locomotive varies with the operating conditions. To minimize the mechanical energy consumption of train does not mean that the electric energy consumption is also minimum. This paper studies the energy‐efficient train control (EETC) problem considering the dynamic traction system efficiency based on the Pontryagin maximum principle (PMP) method. The authors find that the necessary optimal control modes for the problem are full power (FP), constrained partial power (CPP), coast (C), partial brake (PB), and full brake (FB). Especially, the FP‐C pair is proposed to replace the unreasonable cruising phase on the other‐non‐steep hill (ONSH). A two‐layer algorithm is designed to solve the problem and case studies are presented to illustrate the results. The influence of different train weights, different overall running times, and different kinds of traction system efficiency on the optimal driving strategy is analyzed.

The timetable of urban rail greatly affects its daily energy consumption. To improve the utilization of renewable energy between trains using timetabling has become an effective way to reduce energy consumption. Previous studies ignore or simplify the modelling of traction power supply network, which failed to accurately describe the flow of energy between trains through the power network. This paper proposed an optimisation method of energy efficiency timetabling considering the power flow of traction power supply network. First, an urban rail transit DC traction network model is established, and the current-vector iterative method is used to characterize the energy consumption. Then, a train timetable optimisation model is proposed to minimize the total energy consumption of the traction network system by adjusting the dwell time and section running time. The genetic algorithm is used to solve the optimisation problem. Finally, simulation result shows that the proposed method can accurately characterize the energy flow and effectively reduce the total energy consumption of the urban rail transit.

Nowadays, among 3rd generation drug delivery systems, biodegradable polymeric based long-acting injectable depot has achieved tremendous success in clinical application. So far, there have been two dozen of commercial products of Poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) microspheres available in the market. Recently, continuous manufacturing concept has been successfully applied on oral solid formulation from buzzword to reality. However, the polymeric injectable microspheres are still stayed at batch manufacturing phase due to the lack of understanding of knowledge matrix. In this study, micro-mixer as a plug-and-play emulsification modules, Raman spectroscopy and focused beam reflectance measurement as real-time monitoring modules are integrated into a novel semi-continuous manufacturing streamline to provides more efficient upscaling flexibility in microspheres production. In this end to end semi-continuous manufacturing process, amphiphilic block polymer monomethoxy-poly (ethylene glycol) modified PLGA (mPEG-PLGA) was used for encapsulating Gallic acid. Additionally, with guarantee of good robustness, the correlation relationship between critical process parameters, critical material attributes and critical quality attributes were investigated. The time-space evolution process and mechanism for formation of PEG-PLGA microsphere with particular morphology were elaborated. Altogether, this study firstly established semi-continuous manufacturing streamline for PLGA/PEG-PLGA microspheres, which would not only lower the cost of production, narrow process variability and smaller equipment/environmental footprint but also applied in-process control (IPC) and QbD principle on complicated production process of microspheres. Therefore, this study build confidence in the industrial development of PLGA/PEG-PLGA microspheres and establish best practice standards, which might be a quantum leap for developing PLGA microspheres in the future.

In order to realize the high value-added reuse of coal fly ash, a reusable Fe-modified fly ash catalyst was synthesized for ozone catalysis degradation of chemical oxygen demand (COD) in wastewater. Through enhancement of the pretreatment procedure and FeOx modification, the resulting fly ash with Fe modification demonstrated increased specific surface area and porosity. The presence of Fe loading significantly enhances the reactivity of surface oxidizing reactive species, particularly oxygen vacancy, leading to improved adsorption and activation properties towards ozone molecules. Sodium acetate is chosen as a probe for contaminants due to its status as a small organic substance that remains resistant to further direct oxidation by ozone. This makes it suitable for evaluating the catalyst’s effectiveness in degrading chemical oxygen demand (COD). The quantitative detection of free radicals revealed the generation of •O2− was nearly 10 times that of •OH and dominated the reaction. This study showcases the potential of fly ash, an industrial byproduct, to be utilized as a cost-effective and easily prepared catalyst with consistent physical and chemical characteristics.

Being a biologically diversed hotspot in the global marine ecosystem, the Beibu Gulf is inhabited by a high diversity of fish and serves as a vital fishing ground in China. Due to continuous overfishing, the fishery resource has drastically declined in the Beibu Gulf. However, information about the ichthyoplankton assemblages in this area is still lacking. In this present study, ichthyoplankton diversity, spatial and temporal distribution patterns, and assemblage structures were examined using the specimens collected in the late summer–autumn and winter of 2022 in the Beibu Gulf, and the relationship between ichthyoplankton assemblage and environmental variables was studied. A total of 117 ichthyoplankton taxa, belonging to 13 orders and 42 families, were recorded. The most abundant families were Gerreidae, Leiognathidae, and Sillaginidae in late summer–autumn, accounting for 38.74%, 27.95%, and 9.94%, respectively. Sparidae, Platycephalidae, and Sillaginidae were the most abundant families in winter, accounting for 34.03%, 17.15%, and 8.20%, respectively. Cluster analysis identified five assemblages in late summer-autumn and four assemblages in winter. The most characteristic species in each cluster were Terapon jarbua, Sillago sihama, Leiognathus brevirostris, Mene maculate, and Scomberoides tol in late summer-autumn and Scomberomorus commerson, Acanthopagrus latus, Sillago sp., and Evynnis cardinalis in winter. The results of the canonical correspondence analysis indicated that pH, chlorophyll-a (Chl-a), depth, dissolved oxygen (DO), sea surface salinity (SSS), total nitrogen (TN), and total phosphorus (TP) were the major environmental variables affecting the ichthyoplankton assemblage structure in the Beibu Gulf. The finding of this study will provide valuable information in conserving fish spawning grounds and developing fishery management practices to protect fishery resources in the Beibu Gulf.

Abstract The energy consumption and operation efficiency of congested rail networks is a primary concern of railway operators. Although achieving the optimal running time supplement helps to reduce the energy consumption of trains, the section running time is usually limited to improve the operation efficiency, which will influence the optimal running time supplement. Here, based on the Lagrange analysis and the Pontryagin's maximum principle, the optimal structure of an energy‐efficient driving strategy is found for a train journey on non‐level track subject to section running time constraints. The existence and uniqueness of the optimal solution for this constrained energy‐efficiency train control problem is proved by the perturbation analysis method, and based on which an algorithm for solving this problem is proposed. Finally, the results are illustrated by finding optimal control sequences and associated speed profile for the freight train in some elementary but realistic examples.

Abstract Carotid‐femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV) and brachial‐ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) act as two most frequently applied indicators to evaluate arterial stiffness. Limited studies have systematically compared the relationships between cfPWV/baPWV and increased carotid intima‐media thickness (cIMT). This study aimed to investigate the associations of the two PWV indices with cIMT in a Chinese community‐based population. A total of 6026 Chinese participants from an atherosclerosis cohort were included in our analysis. Increased cIMT was defined as the maximum of cIMT > 0.9 mm in end‐systolic period of carotid artery. Mean (SD) cfPWV and baPWV were 8.55±1.83 and 16.79±3.35 m/s, respectively. The prevalence of increased cIMT was 59.58%. In multivariable logistic regression, both PWVs were independently associated with increased cIMT after adjustment for various confounders (for 1 m/s increase of cfPWV: OR = 1.07, 95% CI: 1.02‐1.11; for 1 m/s increase of baPWV: OR = 1.03, 95% CI: 1.00‐1.05). The highest cfPWV and baPWV quartile groups had higher prevalence of increased cIMT when compared with the lowest quartile groups (for cfPWV: OR = 1.28, 95% CI: 1.06‐1.55; for baPWV: OR = 1.23, 95% CI: 1.00‐1.50). However, when both PWVs were added into multivariable model simultaneously, only cfPWV was associated with odds of increased cIMT. Subgroup analyses further showed cfPWV was more strongly associated with increased cIMT than baPWV in males, participants aged ≥65 years, and those with other cardiovascular risk factors. In conclusion, both cfPWV and baPWV are associated with increased cIMT in a Chinese community‐based population. Furthermore, cfPWV is more strongly correlated with increased cIMT compared to baPWV.

Abstract For a selected train journey with multiple trains in the same traction power system, the given driving strategies of other trains can be abstracted as available external power flow. Aims at reducing the energy consumption of the multi‐train system, this paper presents an analytical solution for optimising the selected train trajectory to maximise the utilisation of the external power flow. Specifically, a spatial‐temporal area which combine the track grade along space and the external power over time is constructed and the problem is converted into the energy‐efficient control of a train travels in the spatial‐temporal area. Classical methods of constrained optimisation is used to show that the set of the optimal control modes and the optimal driving speed for the proposed problem are in a state of change. In order to obtain the optimal driving strategy, the spatial‐temporal area is divided into grids, and the evolution of a key adjoint variable when the external power changes is discussed. The authors illustrate our results by finding optimal control sequences and associated speed profile for the freight train in some elementary but realistic examples.

Abstract The tissue expansion technique is the most suitable procedure for Chinese patients with microtia. However, it is difficult to determine whether the expanded flap is sufficient, and there are no clear or objective guidelines for determining the volume of the expander for different sizes of auricles. One hundred patients with unilateral microtia who visited our department in 2021 were randomly selected for auricular data collection using 3D scanning. The auricle length, width, projection, perimeter, and surface area were measured. Eight different volumes of expanders underwent CT and the surface areas of these expanders were measured. The surface areas of the auricles and expanders were compared and the correlation between them was explored. The average auricle parameters were calculated. The scatter plot showed a linear relationship between auricle length and auricle surface area (R2 = 0.9913), which demonstrated that the auricle area was approximately equal to the auricle length multiplied by 76.921. Additionally, the surface area of the expanders was measured and made into a table for selection against the surface area of the auricles. Using our equation, the auricle surface could be estimated by simply measuring the non-defective auricle length; therefore, the suitable volume of the expander could be determined.

Ewing sarcoma and primitive neuroectodermal tumors (ES/PNETs) are rare tumors that belong to a family of round-cell neuroectodermally derived tumors, and their optimal treatment remains a great challenge. This study presented a case of ES/PNET, arising in the esophagus of a 21-year-old female patient presented with progressive dysphagia. Computed tomography and endoscopic ultrasonography showed a well-defined, submucosal solid mass in the superthoracic esophagus. The accurate diagnosis after surgery was obtained through immunohistochemistry and genetic studies, namely the CD99 immunopositivity as well as the EWSR1/FLI1 gene rearrangement associated with t(11;22)(q24;q12) in tumor cells. The patient underwent localized tumor resection followed by chemotherapy and chest radiotherapy. The patient is doing well with no evidence of tumor recurrence or metastasis 18 months after surgery. Although the esophagus is a rare site for ES/pPNET, we can speculate that the treatment protocol of ES/pPNET should include multi-agent chemotherapy, surgery, and local radiotherapy in order to improve the prognosis based on our report.

A detailed evaluation of the riding environment can help the government master the urban riding environment, identify problematic road sections, and improve riding quality. However, the current evaluation of riding environment is mainly subjective, lacking big data (e.g., shared bicycle trajectory data) as a data-driven objective evaluation system. The emergence of shared bicycle data has provided data support for data-driven riding environment evaluation, but there are few studies using shared bicycle data for riding evaluation at present. First, according to the characteristics of the data and the riding environment, a boxplot method and Bayesian probabilistic network model are used to exclude abnormal data and to match trajectories to road sections. Second, this paper proposes a data-driven evaluation framework based on riding influencing factors. An evaluation framework, which is composed of node-, link-, and block-level evaluation indicators, was constructed, using an evaluation model combining TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) and KNN (K-Nearest Neighbors). The evaluation results can identify parking issues, intersection difficulties, and lane occupancy issues on bicycle sections, and visually reflect the riding environment. The significance of this article is to create an objective evaluation system based on a data-driven technology to accurately identify sections and causes of riding quality problems. The research results can be applied in the future to evaluate the cycling environment around the railway stations for bicycle parking planning and determine the foothold for traffic management.

Summary: Periphytic biofilms (PB) at the soil-water interface contributes 7–38% of the methane emission from rice paddies, yet the biogeographical mechanism underlying and affecting the process remain elusive. In this study, rice fields along an edapho-vclimatic gradient were sampled, and the environmental drivers affecting distribution of methanogenic and methanotrophic communities were evaluated. The methanogenic and methanotrophic communities at soil-water interface showed less complex inter/intra-generic interactions than those in soil, and their relative abundances were weakly driven by spatial distance, soil organic carbon, soil total nitrogen and pH. The nutrient supply and buffering capacity of extracellular polymeric substance released by PB reduced their interaction and enhanced the resilience on edaphic environment changes. Climate affected soil metal content, extracellular polymeric substance content, and thus the methane-related communities, and caused geographical variation in the impacts of PB on methane emissions from rice paddies. This study facilitates our understanding of geographical differences in the contribution of PB to methane emission.
