The study aims to understand how the effect of chronotype on learning changes according to the time-of-day CBM is administered and its utility for improving negative emotion processing biases and positive and negative affect in young adults. Healthy individuals with a late or early chronotype will complete online CBM in either a synchronous or asynchronous condition and CBM learning rate will be the primary outcome measure.

The aim of this qualitative user needs study is to gain insights from relevant stakeholders (people with lived experience of a current or previous eating disorder (PWLE), parents/carers of people with a current or previous eating disorder, and clinicians with experience of treating people with an eating disorder), to inform the design of a VR graded-exposure café scenario to help people with eating disorders who find going into or eating/drinking within a café environment challenging.

In this study, we will investigate reward-based learning (RBL) in conjunction with naturally occurring momentary mood states using an online gamified approach. We hypothesise that individuals with more positive momentary mood states will demonstrate improved performance on our gamified RBL task in comparison to individuals with less positive mood states.

This study aims to test if this new gamified version of CBM training successfully changes participants` responses towards emotional facial expressions. We have two conditions; training and control. The outcome variable is the change in the responses to emotional facial expressions. We expect that people in the training condition will shift their responses to ambiguous facial expressions from sad to happy.

We will be conducting focus groups and Think Aloud sessions in order to co-design a gamified task for facial emotion recognition in context. This task is part of our wider emotion recognition intervention which will be rolled out in educational settings. Focus groups will be conducted with teachers/school staff, educational psychologists, therapists, parents of autistic children and autistic adults. Think Aloud sessions will be conducted after this using ideas generated in the focus groups to get feedback from children and school staff.

This study aims to compare the effectiveness of a single session of Cognitive Bias Modification (CBM) and Gamified Cognitive Bias Modification (GCBM) on mood outcomes. We have two conditions CBM training and GCBM. The outcome variables are balance points and mood outcomes from mental health questionnaires. We expect that GCBM will have a better positive effect on mood compared to CBM.

The aim of this systematic review is to identify and synthesise the qualitative evidence-base surrounding stakeholder perspectives, experiences, and recommendations in relation to immersive Virtual Reality (VR) interventions for mental health conditions. The qualitative findings of included studies will be synthesised using a meta-aggregative approach, in order to develop a set of guidelines or recommendations that could be used to inform the design of future VR interventions in this field.

The aim of this study is to examine whether emotion recognition of facial expressions can be improved following multiple sessions of emotion recognition training in autistic children (or children who are considered to be on the autism spectrum by their parents). Additionally, the study aims to understand how the learning growth for emotion recognition varies for different autistic children, and determine the optimal number of sessions for delivery. The emotion recognition training sessions will involve six emotions: happy, sad, surprised, scared, angry and disgusted. This work will provide a foundation for further development of the training as an intervention.

This research investigates whether body dissatisfaction is related to an attentional bias towards low fat bodies in non-clinical female populations. We will conduct a systematic review and, if appropriate, meta-analyses of cross-sectional studies to determine whether women with high body dissatisfaction direct more attention towards low fat bodies than women with low body dissatisfaction.

The aim of this study is to examine whether there are differences in motivation for reward (using the Joystick Operated Runway Task and Effort Expenditure for Reward Task) and sensitivity to reward (using the Sweet Taste Test) in healthy controls who have high vs low state anhedonia

This large-scale online pilot study aims to examine the effectiveness of cognitive bias modification (CBM) in the form of emotion recognition training on behavioural and functional outcomes of volunteers who are currently taking anti-depressants in the real-world setting (n=300). Participants are randomly assigned to complete a CBM or sham intervention. They will complete 4 sessions of training within one week. At session 1, 4 and during a follow up session three weeks after session 1, participants complete a series of cognitive and self-report measures. The primary outcomes are their bias in emotion recognition, and the effects of training on measures of quality of life enjoyment and satisfaction. We will also assess the effects of training an stress resilience, anhedonia, and mood.

This study comprises two experiments that ask participants to make judgements based on the visual appearance of the faces of identical twins. In the sets of twins we use here, one twin smokes, and the other does not. In the first experiement, we show participants the faces of the twins side-by-side, and ask if participants can identify which is the smoking twin. In the second experiment, we repeat the procedure, but ask which is the more attractive twin. We will use the results of the study to inform the development of a smoking cessation intervention that will illustrate how people age as a smoker and as a non-smoker.

The aim of this study is to investigate whether repeated exposure (using a one back task) to images of underweight women will lead to participants judging their own bodies as larger and being less satisfied with their bodies, and exposure to images of overweight women will lead to them judging their own bodies as smaller and being more satisfied with their bodies. The primary outcome will be perceived size of own body at follow up, adjusted for baseline perception of own body.

The aim of this study is to explore the association between biases in emotional expression perception and a range of mood outcomes. We are assessing bias towards the perception of three negative emotions (sadness, anger and disgust), and self-reported depression, anxiety, self-esteem, aggression and schizotypy. This study is an extension of an existing pre-registered project (doi: 10.17605/OSF.IO/96KXN) with amendments to the methodology.
