Abstract

The thermodynamic analysis of the [K.sup.} reversible processes for ion exchanges in [K.sub.h][Fe.sub.k][[Fe[[(CN).sub.6].sub.l]*m[H.sub.2]O host compounds (Prussian blue) is presented. The fact that the simple model like the lattice-gas model used in analysis could be applied to [K.sup.} ion intercalation supports the idea that there is no interaction between the guest and the host material at more anodic potentials than 0.20 V with respect to the saturated calomel reference electrode, at least for low concentrations of [K.sup.}.

Abstract

The kinetic aspects involved in the mechanism of interplay between electron and ions for [K.sub.h][Fe.sub.k][[Fe[[(CN).sub.6].sub.l].m[H.sub.2]O (prussian blue) host materials were quantified and developed. The results indicate that the high prominence of the [K.sup.} exchange observed in the voltammetric responses has a kinetic origin and is not related to the amount of sites available for intercalation/deintercalation of the ions.

Abstract

An framework for the interpretation of ionic insertion/deinsertion reactions in an aqueous environment taking place in transition-metal hexacyanoferrates of the general formula K(sub h)Fe(sub k)[Fe(CN)(sub 6)]l.mH(sub 2)O (Prussian Blue or PB) was presented. The process occurs by means of three different ionic exchanges involving three different ionic sites inside the crystalline structure, two ionic exchanges were related to K(super +) and H(super +) and the other process involved insertion/deinsertion of H(sub 3)O(super +) through the channels of PB structure.
