Intertemporal decision-making is the behavior of choosing between a smaller, more immediate reward and a larger, delayed reward. Delay discounting (DD) is the process by which the subjective value of an identified gain decreases as the delay in receiving it increases. Individuals with a high rate of DD tend to overvalue immediate benefits and make choices with detrimental long-term consequences. The present study aimed to assess the influence of the Big Five personality traits on intertemporal decision-making, considering the effects of sociodemographic covariates and psychopathological symptoms (anxiety, depression, and stress). The sample consisted of 520 Brazilian adults, with a mean age of 27.3 years (SD = 4.7) and 70.2% female. They completed an online survey, which included the Big Five Inventory (BFI- 5), the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21), and the Monetary Choice Questionnaire (MCQ-27). The results indicated that approximately 9% of the variance in DD is explained by mean family income, anxiety, agreeableness, neuroticism, and extraversion. Specifically regarding the influence of personality, 1.7% of DD was explained by agreeableness, 0.7% by extroversion, and 0.6% by neuroticism. These findings suggest that certain personal attributes contribute to increased DD, regardless of mean family income and emotional health status. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article seeks to provide a reflective approach to understand the spiritual personality, based on experimental psychology. It delves into the development of experimental psychology and its socio-historical contexts. Through experiments, interactions with multiple variables are established according to specific contexts and circumstances, as seen in the cases of Asch, Milgran and Zimbardo. These cases are analyzed considering the guiding principles of the Nuremberg Code, the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights, and the 2008 Universal Declaration of Ethical Principles for Psychologists. Therefore, experimentation lays the foundations for experimental psychology, which has evolved, allowing new approaches and interpretations within the field of psychology. Building on these arguments, the concept of personality is embraced with reference to the foundations of psychology as a scientific discipline seeking to understand the value of personality from the ontological and spiritual perspective of the human being. This study delves into the influential dynamics between the Big Five personality traits and subjective career success in the Ukrainian IT industry, offering a new perspective in career development research. Traditionally, career success research focused on human capital attributes and demographic factors, while dispositional factors such as personality remained underexplored. This research fills this gap, especially relevant in modern, non-linear organizational environments. The study engages IT professionals in Ukraine, using surveys to assess the relationship between their personality traits, based on the Big Five Inventory-2, and their subjective career success, measured through the Subjective Career Success Inventory. The analysis includes 150 complete responses from various demographics within the IT sector, ensuring a comprehensive examination of the dispositional factors influencing career success. Results reveal significant correlations between personality traits and career success perceptions. Extraversion demonstrates a substantial positive relationship with career success, aligning with the hypothesis that sociability, assertiveness, and enthusiasm are advantageous in professional settings. Agreeableness also shows a positive correlation, suggesting that cooperative and empathetic traits enhance career experiences and success perceptions. Conscientiousness is positively correlated with career success, emphasizing the importance of organization, diligence, and reliability in achieving career goals. Contrary to expectations, neuroticism exhibits a positive correlation with career success, indicating complex dynamics that might involve factors like increased career-driven motivation among neurotic individuals. Openness, with a modest but significant positive correlation, suggests that creativity and openness to new experiences hold value in the IT industry, albeit not as primary drivers of career success. The study's findings on the relationships between personality traits and various facets of career success offer deeper insights. Extraversion correlates positively with aspects like recognition, quality of work, and career satisfaction. Agreeableness positively influences the perception of meaningful work and authenticity. Conscientiousness strongly correlates with recognition and quality of work, while neuroticism shows a mixed relationship, impacting authenticity and work-life balance negatively. Openness, while showing a smaller effect, contributes positively to career growth opportunities and overall satisfaction. In summary, the study illuminates the crucial role of personality traits in shaping career success, particularly in the dynamic IT sector. It underscores the importance of social engagement, assertiveness, cooperation, organization, and creativity in professional development. The negative impact of neurotic traits highlights the need for supportive work environments and stress management strategies. These insights are invaluable for both individuals and organizations in understanding and fostering career success in the modern workplace. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study presents the Brazilian version of the Child-Adolescent Perfectionism Scale (CAPS), one of the most widely used instruments for assessing perfectionism in young people. The objective of this study was to present the adaptation and evidence of validity for the CAPS in Brazilian Portuguese. The study was conducted on 599 adolescents (Mean age = 15.46 SD = 1.15), 66% girls. We investigated CAPS's internal structure, measurement properties according to age and sex, and its relationship with other questionnaires. We found a good fit for a two-factor structure for the CAPS controlling for an acquiescent responding style. We found evidence of invariance across participants' sex and lack of bias (using a MIMIC approach) due to participant age. The CAPS scores were associated with personality traits and a measure of mental health. The CAPS can be used as a questionnaire to assess perfectionism in Brazilian adolescents. - Abstract
The study aimed to: 1) Assess if Attachment dimensions can be predictive of early maladaptive schemas (EIDs); 2) Analyze the relationship between Attachment style and EIDs; 3) Access the relationship between activation of EIDs and the variables "living alone", "with parents" or "with peers". Sixty university students of both sexes aged between 18 and 26 years participated. A cross-sectional method of data collection was used, with the application of instruments for evaluating attaachment schemes and styles. The data analysis had a quantitative approach. It was identified that students with secure attachment styles present fewer activated EIDs and that attachment dimensions are able to predict the activation of schemas in the first domain. Still, there are statistical differences regarding the activation of the EIDs when comparing the variables living alone and with a partner. The importance of secure attachment for lower activation of EIDs in university students is discussed, as well as its implications. Also, the importance of the close support network at this time of development is emphasized. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PERSONALITY assessment , *PERSONALITY , *PSYCHOMETRICS , *PSYCHOLOGICAL tests , *PATHOLOGICAL psychology , *MINNESOTA Multiphasic Personality Inventory - Abstract
The Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) is a self-report scale that aims to provide information about psychopathology, personality, and the psychosocial environment of a person, all of which are important constructs for clinical decision-making and diagnostic processes. At the structural and psychometric level, it is regarded as an improvement in relation to other personality assessment inventories (e.g., MMPI-2 and MCMI-III). Since its publication, the PAI has gathered international recognition, and is now considered a useful instrument in clinical, forensic and research contexts. The present study aims to review and summarize the PAI's development, administration, scoring, and interpretation, as well as to discuss its factorial structure and other psychometric properties in different contexts. The adaptation of PAI across cultures, as well as other alternative versions (e.g., PAI-SF, PAS, PAI-A) are also presented and summarized, and their psychometric properties are analyzed. The Portuguese adaptation and validation of PAI would significantly contribute to the progress of the psychological assessment field in Portugal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This article aimed to understand the therapeutic process provided by a short-term interventional practice centered on people with body self-esteem and self-image problems. Following a qualitative methodological design, the research and therapeutic interventions took place under the influence of the action research design. The following stages were used: planning the therapeutic process in light of the necessary and sufficient conditions for personality change and the therapeutic process phases; development of aid practice; action monitoring based on supervision, service review and semi-structured interviews with the participants; empirical phenomenological analysis of the affective impacts of therapy from the perspective of the clients assisted; understanding of this from the Rogerian framework. The following thematic axes related to the therapeutic process were elaborated and discussed: factors that led to the search for psychological help and constituted the therapeutic atmosphere; negative meaning of bodily experience; real meaning of the self-esteem experience in relation to the body; changes in attitudes towards self-perception and self-care. It was concluded that person-centered therapy produces significant affective impacts that helped these clients to deal with their body image and self-esteem experiences. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Paul Bouts (1900–1999) was a Belgian pedagogue, a Roman Catholic priest, and the founder of Psychognomy, which is a personality diagnostic system combining phrenology and several related practices – typology, craniofacial measurements, physiognomy, graphology etc. Bouts had a fragile health; therefore, it is unlikely that he travelled to Brazil. Despite this, his most famous book, rich in conservative and religious thoughts, was translated to Portuguese and published with ecclesiastic support in 1943, and the doctrine acquired good reputation among Brazilian members of the clergy, politicians, teachers, and military personnel. Lay scholars and medical doctors founded a Brazilian institute devoted to the study and diffusion of psychognomy in 1949. They published two volumes of a psychognomy treatise, and the institute was active until the early 1960s, when social interest in the subject rapidly vanished.

The aim of the present study was to investigate validity evidence based on internal structure and the relationship with other variables of the Brazilian version of the Hewitt and Flett Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (H&F-MPS). To this end, a sample comprising 368 participants with a mean age of 31.17 years (SD=11,34), 74% female, answered the H&F-MPS perfectionism scale and instruments that measure personality and psychological inflexibility. Findings indicated a factor structure of three dimensions, like the original scale, good discriminative item parameters, highly satisfactory reliability indexes, and significant correlations of the hypothesized directions with Openness to Experiences, Neuroticism, and Conscientiousness factors from the personality measure, as well as with the psychological flexibility measure. The goal of this research was to investigate the psychometric properties of the Level of Personality Functioning Scale - Brief Form - 2.0 (LPFS-BF-2.0) in Brazilian samples. Therefore, two samples were used in this study, one with 415 and the other with 1,011 Brazilians. Participants completed the Brazilian version of the LPFS-BF-2.0 and other measures of common mental disorder symptoms, suicide risk, the severity of personality pathology, and pathological personality traits. The results indicated that the two-factor model (including self-functioning and interpersonal functioning domains) fits the Brazilian samples better than a one-factor model. The LPFS-BF-2.0 scales indicated adequate reliability coefficients and evidence of convergent validity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective of the study: the main objective of the present study was to investigate the relationship between personality traits, life satisfaction, the perceived impact of the pandemic and the psychological suffering of Brazilian entrepreneurs. Methodology: 631 respondents (51% female) with a mean age of 39.34 years (SD = 10.75), from different Brazilian states. Entrepreneurs answered an online collection form that assessed their personality, psychological distress, life satisfaction, and questions about the perception of the pandemic. Originality/relevance: studies on the mental health of entrepreneurs are scarce, even in crisis situations, such as the covid-19 pandemic. This study sought to fill part of this gap. Main results: Structural equation modeling shows that personality traits and life satisfaction are directly associated with the psychological distress of entrepreneurs. The relationship between neuroticism, extraversion and conscientiousness and psychological distress was partially mediated by life satisfaction. Theoretical/methodological contributions: this study contributes to the identification of individual and social variables and the way they are associated in the prediction of psychological suffering, in major health crises, such as covid-19. Social/management contributions: the results of this study can be used by managers, entities, and support services for entrepreneurs in order to build policies and actions aimed at coping with medium and long-term emotional consequences, uncertainties and setbacks resulting from the pandemic. of covid-19 for the entrepreneur and his business. The Big Five Inventory-2 (BFI-2) assesses personality through the big five factor model model (FFM). This study aimed to verify whether the internal structure of the BFI-2 is corroborated in a Brazilian sample. Participants were 908 cisgender adults, aged between 17 and 93 years, 532 of whom were women. Confirmatory factor analysis and Exploratory structural equation modeling were performed with the BFI-2. The 15 facets of personality resulted in adequate fit and reliability, mainly for the respondents under 60 years of age. We conclude that the BFI-2 presents evidence of preliminary validity based on its internal structure, although further validity studies are required with the instrument, to testify its psychometric quality. - Abstract
The revised version of Cloninger’s Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI-R) is a self-report measure assessing the four Temperament dimensions and the three Character dimensions described by the psychobiological model of personality. To understand whether, and how, the personality characteristics of specific subpopulations or individuals deviate from ‘normality’, it is essential to have reliable normative data from a reference population. The objective of this study was to describe the normative data of the TCI-R in the adult Portuguese population. The normative data was based on a large (n = 2442) sample obtained via stratified sampling. We summarize TCI-R scale and subscale scores for the whole sample, and explore differences between men and women, and between groups of different ages. We also provide tables of norms (percentiles). This article provides a relevant contribution to psychological assessment in Portugal, by presenting normative data for the TCI-R for the Portuguese population, which are crucial for research, evaluation, and intervention involving Portuguese individuals. INTELLIGENT tutoring systems , *SURVIVAL analysis (Biometry) , *CLASSROOM environment , *FRUSTRATION , *EMOTIONS - Abstract
This article presents a survival analysis-based model to estimate the duration of the emotion of confusion in students during learning. Academic confusion can have both positive and negative effects, and its persistence can lead to negative emotions. The model considers crucial factors such as personality traits and students' prior knowledge, which have been shown to significantly influence the duration of confusion. To investigate this relationship, data were collected from seventh-grade students who used an intelligent tutoring system to solve algebra problems. The results of the analysis of data from 25 students revealed statistically significant differences in the duration of confusion based on different personality traits and prior algebra knowledge. Additionally, a model of intervention for intelligent learning environments was proposed when students are confused, based on the developed model. This module determines the optimal time to intervene and provide individualized assistance tailored to the student's knowledge for the specific problem. The study contributes to understanding the dynamics of academic confusion and highlights the importance of considering emotions and their duration, as well as personality traits and prior knowledge, when designing appropriate interventions in intelligent learning environments. Identifying the opportune moment to intervene when a student is confused is essential to promote a more effective learning process, allowing educators to adopt personalized approaches to meet individual students' needs and facilitate their learning journey. PERSONALITY , *OPENNESS to experience , *SELF-perception , *SELF-esteem , *BODY image - Abstract
Carl Rogers developed a personality theory that can serve as a lens for understanding various clinical phenomena. Considering studies that correlate body self-image and self-esteem problems, this article aims to carry out a reinterpretation of the Rogerian personality theory about these phenomena. In this sense, the aspects are presented that: (1) organize the personality by the relationships between experience, consciousness, phenomenological field, behavior, self (real and ideal), self-actualization tendency, self-image and self-esteem; (2) disorganize the personality and generate self-image and self-esteem problems, from reactions to threat, conditional evaluations, regulations based on the ideal-self, incongruences and psychological maladjustment; (3) reorganize the personality into a self-image and self-esteem based on direct organismic experiences, regulations based on a real self-linked to the self-actualization tendency, and expressed by a fully functioning, openness to experience and the process of being what one is. It concludes pointing to empirical studies on the subject. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
