FREEDOM of speech , *HEBREW literature , *OBJECTIONS (Evidence) , *POSSIBILITY , *DISCOURSE , *NARRATIVES - Abstract
Frequently it has been pointed out that in Biblical Hebrew literature the narrator tends to be less overt. Nonetheless, this has seldom been substantiated with the narrative mode as an analytical category. The latter especially applies to the representation of speech. Herein, it is debated, if besides direct and indirect speech also free indirect discourse may be attested in the Hebrew Bible. Cynthia L. Miller has denied this possibility, which has been notably advocated by Meir Sternberg. However, using a linguistically substantiated narrative analysis Miller's objections can be called into question. This justifies the fundamental possibility of free indirect discourse with wehinne -phrases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Terminal conditions and their treatment processes initiate actions that can be taken to relieve patients of the pain they suffer. This action is carried out by accelerating the death of patients with terminal conditions, known as euthanasia. Euthanasia is still being debated regarding the legal aspects and purpose of the act as part of the patient's treatment. This study aims to determine the perspective of euthanasia as part of the treatment or therapy of terminal conditions. Methods: This research is a literature study from several databases, including Proquest, Science Direct, SpringerLink, and Google Scholar. The article search used keywords combined with booleans. 755 articles were found according to the keywords, and 12 articles were selected using Prism analysis. Results: Euthanasia is seen as a way for terminal patients who have been resistant to treatment to be free from the misery of their illness. Euthanasia in health can be carried out if it is the patient's conscious choice without coercion and has met the medical requirements. Euthanasia can be carried out in areas, regions, or countries where there are regulations, laws, or similar regulations governing the implementation of euthanasia. Conclution: With the existence of clear rules for the implementation of euthanasia, health workers or families involved in euthanasia can provide a clear understanding of how to implement euthanasia.

AGROFORESTRY , *AGRICULTURAL productivity , *AGRICULTURAL resources , *FARMS , *POLITICAL attitudes , *AGRICULTURE - Abstract
Currently, the whole world is confronted with a geometric increase in the human population without a corresponding increase in the agricultural land resource to meet the human demands for food and clothing which are primarily sourced from agricultural industry. Therefore, it is needful for every country to search the importance of agroforestry and make haste to adopt it as it is the only option and panacea with which to combat the world ever increasing human population with limited and dwindling agricultural land resource. Agroforestry is more intentional, intensive, interactive and integrated than agriculture per se. Improved agro-forestry practice is eco-friendly, job creative and lucrative. It also promotes wider biodiversity and high yields of crops and livestock through proper soil management. Agroforestry is a multidisciplinary science encompassing agronomy, physiology, horticulture, apiculture, soil management, ecology, agrisilviculture, silvopasture, agrosilvopasture, and apisilvoculture have made it more comprehensive than other farming systems. The most glaring importance of agroforestry is centered on its ability to adapt to climate change, especially now it has become a case study in the world as its adverse effects on both living and non-living things cannot be neglected. So, this review paper is aimed at sensitizing and encouraging worldwide farmers and non-farmers to adopt the modern agro-forestry practices as improved means for promoting food security and checking deforestation with its associated adverse effects in the world. However, there are numerous challenges confronting the establishment of agroforestry and basically among them are - scarcity of land, improved seeds/seedlings, and conservative attitudes of the farmers.

- Abstract
When recalling events that one personally experienced, one often visualises the remembered scene as one originally saw it: from an internal visual perspective. Sometimes, however, one sees oneself in the remembered scene: from an external'observer perspective'. In such cases one remembers from-the-outside. This book is about such memories. Remembering from-the-outside is a common yet curious case of personal memory: one views oneself from a perspective one seemingly could not have had at the time of the original event. How can past events be recalled from a detached perspective? How is it that the self is observed? And how can we account for the self-presence of such memories? Indeed, can there be genuine memories recalled from-the-outside? If memory preserves past perceptual content then how can one see oneself from-the-outside in memory? This book disentangles the puzzles posed by remembering from-the-outside. The book develops a dual-faceted approach for thinking about memory, which acknowledges constructive and reconstructive processes at encoding and at retrieval, and it uses this approach to defend the possibility of genuine memories being recalled from-the-outside. In so doing it also elucidates the nature of such memories and sheds light on the nature of personal memory. The book argues that field and observer perspectives are different ways of thinking about a particular past event. Further, by exploring the ways we have of getting outside of ourselves in memory and other cognitive domains, the book sheds light on the nature of our perspectival minds.

(DIPF/Orig.) This article presents empirical findings derived from an empirical study that deals with teachers’ implicit knowledge that structures their teaching practice dealing with the complexity of global issues. The study is based on a qualitative-reconstructive research design. Secondary school teachers were interviewed and recurring patterns on how they teach global issues were reconstructed from their narrations using the Documentary Method. The findings present a typology of different ways of addressing social complexity of global issues that include approaches focusing on (1) authenticity and clarity presented by the teacher, (2) multiperspectivity that excludes the investigation of action and (3) reflexive multiperspectivity in a student-centred approach. The results are discussed with regard to teachers’ professionalization. (DIPF/Orig.)

- Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, questions of the (in)visibility and fragility of care work have once more gained both relevance and precariousness. At the same time, the pandemic makes local and global vulnerabilities (more) visible. This requires a perspective on health security that makes marginalised and hierarchical structures of care tangible and captures the fluidity and transformation of people's needs in times of crises. Therefore, this article addresses the question: How can a feminist ethics of care-perspective change our understanding of health security? We first examine this question on a theoretical-conceptual level and also show its normative potential. Thus, the article analyses the social treatment and invisibility of often precarious, marginalised, and feminised forms of care work from a critical feminist security perspective. We criticise that conventional understandings of security in times of crisis and disasters presuppose an individual who is able to help themselves, which stands in stark contrast to the lived reality of many people dependent on care relationships. We attribute this invisibility, and thus the structural marginalisation of care relations in the case of the Covid-19 pandemic, to the fact that conventional perspectives on health security do not take questions of the connection between care and social orders into account.

- Abstract
When Israel signed the Abraham Accords in 2020 reactions were diverse. Experts were divided - some fearing a deepening of regional divisions, others hoping for a positive impact on the Middle East Peace Process (MEPP). Two years later normalisation has intensified, but differs in degree and scope. Israel's normalisation process has strengthened her acceptance in the region and reaches beyond security issues. While Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates lead these dynamics, eager to benefit from exchange in science and technology, in Morocco the United States' recognition of the latter's sovereignty over the Western Sahara has hardened Rabat's position on that issue. With Sudan, the process has not developed beyond contact between the Israeli government and the internationally contested military leadership. Normalisation is not a decisive factor for Israeli-Palestinian conflict resolution. On the contrary, it was not an incentive in the past for Israel to make concessions; clashes with the Palestinians in Gaza or recently on the Temple Mount could not derail the process either. The real test, however, would be another Palestinian intifada or a return to the annexation plans of early 2020. Iran remains an important uniting factor which has led to a shared threat perception. Nevertheless, the Gulf monarchies and Israel differ in approach towards Iran. While Arab-Israeli joint military exercises mark a historical shift, talks about a military alliance in the Middle East with Israeli (and US) involvement are premature. The European Union and its member states should build on these positive dynamics and look at developments in the region not merely through the lens of the MEPP. Trilateral projects with Israel and Arab partners are a good starting point here. Also, Europe should become more involved in the broader Middle East through strategic dialogue with partners in the region as well as the US on the new order in the making.

- Abstract
Norway's and Switzerland's recent hosting of the de facto Taliban regime representatives in early 2022 has overshadowed the risks to women and their rights in the aftermath of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021. Unless international and European policymakers make significant policy interventions while engaging with the de facto Taliban regime, these risks will only escalate. Women's exclusion in Afghanistan was aggravated after the US/Pakistani/Saudi-backed jihad against the Soviet invasion between 1979 and 1989, where cultural conservatism in rural parts merged with religious extremism. Between 1979 and 2001, Afghanistan witnessed high levels of conflict and the rising prominence of ultraconservative religious clerics and leaders in the country's socio-political makeup. As a result, the first Taliban regime (1996-2001) imposed religion-inspired laws that placed strict restrictions on women in their public and private lives. Following the 9/11 attacks, the Taliban regime was overthrown in October 2001 by the US-led coalition. During the two-decade US presence in the country, and with support from European partners, significant gains were made in providing more education and professional opportunities to women. With the Taliban back in power, these gains now risk being rolled back, and international stakeholders are facing a catch-22. There remains a dilemma regarding whether Afghanistan should be seen from a humanitarian perspective (focusing on avoiding mass starvation) or from a security perspective (with the emphasis being on not engaging with a violent group such as the Taliban). Major policy decisions, therefore, need to be made soon. To avoid an enormous humanitarian disaster in Afghanistan, some level of engagement with the Taliban is required. Switzerland has followed Norway's lead in informally engaging with the Taliban. Such initiatives can bring sustainable results only if engagement with the Taliban includes Afghan women. If Taliban delega

- Abstract

48. Amerika als Imperium: Ein Überblick zur neueren Literatur

- Abstract

- Abstract
Sayyid Ebrahim Raisi, the new Iranian conservative president, has been in office for over four months now. Understanding his presidency matters for myriad reasons, including its historical significance, his foreign policy oriented towards Asia, and what the Iranian pivot to Asia under him entails geopolitically and geoeconomically. Iranian conservative elites view the present moment as the end of the first phase of the Iranian Islamic revolution. Raisi's presidency, to them, is the dawn of a historical "second phase", a post-Ali Khamenei era for a young revolutionary generation. Doctrinally, Raisi's foreign policy can be described as "pragmatic revolutionism." Policy-wise, Raisi - following Khamenei's edict - is embracing the "Iranian pivot to Asia," both geopolitically and geoeconomically. Geopolitically, the revolutionary aspect of this pivot means supporting the resistance axis against the United States and Israel and expelling US forces from the region. Its pragmatism includes promoting regional solutions to regional problems, de-escalation with traditional rivals (e.g. the Emiratis, Saudis, Taliban), and further strategic proximity to Asian actors such as China. Geoeconomically, the revolutionary dimension of this pivot is the resistance economy, a reactive policy to bypass US sanctions. The pragmatic multilateralist dimension is the Iranian connectivity strategy, a proactive process to make Iran a crossroads between various (Eur)Asian geoeconomic initiatives, such as China's Belt and Road Initiative and International North-South Transport Corridor. If the West only concerns itself with the revolutionary component of Iranian foreign policy the costs will be too high. European and US policymakers should therefore seize upon the multilateralist and pragmatic tendencies of Raisi's emerging foreign policy to revive the nuclear deal, with a focus on economic incentives. The European Union should strive for strategic autonomy to deal with Iran independently, if need

- Abstract
Changing global dynamics resulting from the Russian invasion of Ukraine are creating opportunities for non-traditional actors - such as Iran and Turkey - to scale up their engagement with Africa. The African continent is particularly affected by the war: the blockage of grain export routes, the repercussions of Western-imposed sanctions, and globally surging prices have fuelled anti-Western discourses on the continent. The consequences of the war against Ukraine have exacerbated the already existing challenges in Africa regarding food security, especially since the continent is heavily dependent on wheat imports from Russia and Ukraine. The war's precedence over other crises in terms of immediate response puts already vulnerable regions at risk of greater food scarcity, humanitarian emergencies, and political instability. Over the past twenty years, Turkey has emerged as a major humanitarian actor in Africa, promoting rhetoric that brands the country a benevolent brother of African states. Ankara's role in brokering the grain shipment agreement between Ukraine and Russia has strengthened this narrative, with Turkey gaining recognition for having prevented more severe food crises. In terms of Iran, Africa has played a crucial role in its international status-seeking agenda and intermittently as an economic survival sphere at times of deteriorating Iranian relations with the West. The developments regarding the domestic mass uprisings and unpromising nuclear negotiations - coupled with recent comprehensive cooperation with Russia since the beginning of the war - have led to a revitalisation of Iran's engagement with African states. Both Iran and Turkey deploy an amicable rhetoric, drawing on their discursive advantages - such as their Muslim identity and non-colonial history - to better engage with African states. In this way, they are able to leverage rising anti-Western sentiments among African leaders and societies to serve their foreign policy agendas. If European
