The first measurement of two-pion Bose–Einstein correlations in central Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN =2.76 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider is presented. We observe a growing trend with energy now not only for the longitudinal and the outward but also for the sideward pion source radius. The pion homogeneity volume and the decoupling time are significantly larger than those measured at RHIC.

A substantial part of elderly patients (with good performance) with intermediate or high-grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) are not treated with the standard chemotherapy of cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone (CHOP). If NHL patients are not treated with CHOP, the outcome is inferior. By adding granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) to CHOP chemotherapy, we aimed at treating more patients with less toxicity. We performed a multicenter population-based study (in the southeast of the Netherlands) in which elderly patients (≥60 years) with intermediate or high-grade stage ≥IIB NHL were treated with CHOP chemotherapy and growth factor G-CSF to increase the number of patients treated according to standard protocols. We also evaluated elderly NHL patients who were not treated with CHOP chemotherapy. Adequate therapy was defined as ≥ six cycles or a total of five cycles when complete remission was achieved after three cycles. Seventy-nine NHL patients fulfilled the selection criteria. The patients were treated with CHOP plus G-CSF (n=46), CHOP (n=19), cyclophosphamide, vincristine, and prednisone (COP) (n=2), chlorambucil and prednisone (n=2), or prednisone (n=1). Nine patients were not treated with chemotherapy. The median age was 72 years (60–87). Of the 79 NHL patients, 65 were treated with CHOP chemotherapy (82%); 38 of 65 patients (59%) were adequately treated. The complete remission rate in the NHL group treated with CHOP was 65% (42 of 65 patients). The overall 3-year survival was 50%. Most of the patients died from progressive NHL (53% in the CHOP and 77% in the group not treated with CHOP). The treatment-related mortality was 15% in the CHOP group. The most important reason for not treating patients with CHOP (with or without G-CSF) was poor performance (WHO ≥2). A significant subset of patients can be treated with CHOP chemotherapy with acceptable toxicity. The combination of CHOP plus G-CSF increased the absolute number of treatable elderly patients, resulting in more (absolute) patients with complete remission and overall survival compared to our previous study. The article proposes that an electronic academic journal be established. The creation of such a journal would expand the potential of the academic journal in that it would provide for live action, vocal and music articles as well as for printed articles. Problems of cost and implementation are discussed as are problems stemming from opposition groups. Methods of production and of marketing are discussed, predictions are made about the future of literacy and the form for cultural presentation.

Since Prestel and other televised print sources signal a revolution in the presentation of reading material to the public, it is necessary to ensure that the viewers are able to read the material. Are they ready and able to adapt their reading skills to read televised texts? Differences between page print and television print are discussed, with respect to form and style, and recommendations are made about the responsibility of the educational establishment towards the preparation of potential viewers.

- Abstract
The paper deals with the potential use for research and for teaching of the non-British (i.e. American, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand) programmes and series currently being shown on British television screens. Potential projects are outlined in the areas of sociolinguistics and dialectology, and the potential of television as a tool for research into English language generally is discussed. Examples of the types of series that would lend themselves to linguistic research of this nature are noted, and the availability of programmes from the various nations is discussed. Recommendations are made about the future of the English language and the use of television in English language research in the future.

- Abstract
The article proposes the subtitling of English television programmes in the Celtic languages and of Celtic language programmes in English in order to serve the Celtic speaking minorities in Britain and to produce an appreciation of the Celtic languages among English speaking viewers. Parallels are drawn between the proposed British bilingual project and those in other countries for deaf viewers and for speakers of minority languages. Results of a survey of English and Welsh viewers are reported, and difficulties such as viewer resistance, cost, etc., of implementing a bilingual subtitling program in Britain are discussed.

Background: In early breast cancer the different subtypes and their prognostic relevance are well known, contrary to the knowledge on prognostic relevance of subtypes in metastatic breast cancer. This study presents survival estimates after diagnosis of distant metastases of breast cancer subtypes in a recent cohort in which the treatment is representative of current clinical practice. Patients and methods: All patients diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in one of eight participating hospitals in the South-East part of the Netherlands between 2007-2009 were included and all medical charts were reviewed. Patients were categorized in 4 subtypes based on the hormone receptor (HR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) status of the primary tumor; HR positive/HER2 negative, HR positive/HER2 positive, HR negative/HER2 positive and triple negative (TN). Metastatic survival was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier product-limit method. Cox proportional hazards model was used to determine the prognostic impact of breast cancer subtype, adjusted for possible confounders. Results: A total of 815 patients were included; the HR+/HER2- subtype comprising 66%, the HR-/HER2+ subtype 8%, the TN subtype 15% and the HR+/HER2+ subtype 11% of patients. The four subtypes were associated with different metastatic survival times; the HR+/HER2+ subtype was associated with the best metastatic survival (median, 32.9 months), compared to 22.1 months for the HR+/HER2- subtype, 19.5 months for the HR- /HER2+ subtype and 7.7 months for the TN subtype. Aside from subtype, other prognostic factors of metastatic survival were site of metastases and metastatic-free interval. Conclusion: Of the four subtypes, the HR+/HER2+ subtype was associated with the most favorable outcome, in terms of metastatic survival. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
