The release of radionuclide elements from nuclear, medical, research, and defense fields has become a serious environmental problem. Hence, the investigation of the adsorption kinetic and isotherm of metal ions (Co2+, Sr2+, and Cs+) which are commonly found in radioactive waste has been considered essential for radioactive contaminant removal process from aqueous environment. In this paper, the adsorption kinetic of three metal ions on Fe3O4 nanoparticle (Fe3O4 NPs) have been described by the pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, Elovich, and Intra-particle diffusion models, while the adsorption isotherm have been described by the Langmuir, Freundlich, Dubinin-Radushkevich model, and Tempkin isotherm models. Comparing the correction coefficients (R2) of four adsorption kinetic models and four isothermal adsorption models, the adsorption kinetic of three ions fitted well to the pseudo-second-order model with R2 > 0.9913. Meanwhile, the adsorption isotherm of three metal ions indicate that the Langmuir model was best fit the isothermal adsorptions with R2 > 0.9799. The maximum adsorption capacities of Co2+, Sr2+, and Cs+ were found to be 30.488, 34.843, and 33.223 mg/g, respectively. Based on the data of the present investigation, the Fe3O4 NPs being eco-friendly and low-cost adsorbent might be a suitable alternative for the elimination of radioactive waste from environmental and industrial wastes.

The purpose of this work is to fabricate the advanced organic antibacterial coating containing the strong photocatalytic nanomaterials. For this purpose, firstly the TiO2–Ag hybrid nanoparticles are synthesized by chemical reduction method. Then, the antibacterial coating based on acrylic polyol, polyisocyanate, and these TiO2–Ag hybrid nanoparticles has been prepared. Mechanical properties show that the optimal content of TiO2–Ag hybrid nanoparticles in the coating matrix is 2 wt%, with its abrasion resistance of 166.2 L/mil; impact strength of 195 kg cm; adhesion of size #1 and relative hardness of 0.78. In addition, FE-SEM analysis shows that the nanocomposite coating has a tight structure with homogeneous dispersion of TiO2–Ag nanoparticles in the polymer matrix. The paint film has good antibacterial activity and has great application prospects. Data from the antibacterial test indicates that in the presence of an acrylic polyurethane coating containing 2 wt% TiO2–Ag, the number of viable Escherichia coli decreased from 3.4 × 105 CFU/ml to 1.5 × 102 CFU/ml after 24 h of culture. The present study introduces Fe3O4-coated lapatinib-labeled 153Sm nanoparticles (denoted as Fe3O4@lapatinib-153Sm) as a promising avenue for advancing breast cancer treatment. The radiolabeled nanoparticles combine various attributes, offering enhanced therapeutic precision. The integration of lapatinib confers therapeutic effects and targeted delivery. The inherent magnetic characteristics of Fe3O4 nanoparticles contribute to improved imaging contrast and targeted localization. Incorporating the gamma-emitting 153Sm isotope permits single-photon emission computed tomography imaging and radiation dose evaluation, while its beta-emitting nature ensures targeted cancer cell eradication. The synthesis of Fe3O4@lapatinib-153Sm was meticulously optimized by investigating the effects of parameters on radiolabeling efficiency. Physicochemical attributes were scrutinized using several analytical techniques. In-depth in vivo assessment evaluated the biocompatibility, toxicity, and biodistribution in a murine model, illuminating clinical utility. Optimal conditions (153SmCl3 concentration of 10 mCi mL−1, pH 7.4, a reaction time of 30 min, and a temperature of 25 °C) achieved >99% labeling efficiency and radiochemical purity. The TEM analysis indicated that the diameter of Fe3O4@lapatinib-153Sm nanoparticles ranged from 10 to 40 nm. Vibrating-sample magnetometry verified their superparamagnetic behaviour with a saturation magnetization of 41.4 emu g−1. The synthesized radiopharmaceutical exhibited high sterility and in vitro stability. Acute toxicity studies showed the mild effects of Fe3O4@lapatinib-153Sm at a dose of 20 mCi kg−1, with no observed mortality. Notably, lesions from Fe3O4@lapatinib-153Sm use recovered naturally over time. Radiation doses below 20 mCi kg−1 were recommended for clinical trials. The biodistribution study in BT474 xenograft mice revealed rapid clearance of Fe3O4@lapatinib-153Sm within 48 h. Significant accumulation occurred in the liver, spleen, and tumor tissue, while minimal accumulation was found in other tissues. In this article, a novel magnetic composite material obtained from alkaline pretreated spent coffee grounds was used for investigating of the sorption mechanism of methylene blue, congo red and tannic acid from aqueous solutions. In order to clarify mechanisms were analyzed the adsorption kinetics models (external and internal diffusion; chemical kinetics (pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order); intraparticle diffusion) and the adsorption thermodynamics. The results showed that the sorption of all studied sorbates was controlled by a mixed diffusion model and a pseudo-second order and diffusion rate revealed three stage of the mass transfer. The adsorption process of methylene blue, congo red and tannic acid onto Fe3O4/PVA/APSCGs sorbent was spontaneous and endothermic. Based on the results, it was concluded that the mechanism for removal of the studied sorbates by adsorption onto Fe3O4/PVA/APSCGs sorbent may be assumed both physisorption and chemisorption.

In this article, Y-90 microspheres are synthesized in three forms (resin microspheres, glass microspheres and gel microspheres) in Da Lat Nuclear Reactor (Vietnam) with a capacity of 500 kW for application in treatment of primary and secondary liver cancers. Characterization and quality of Y-90 microspheres are checked by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), chemical purity, radionuclide purity, radiochemical purity, sterility, bacterial endotoxins, toxic heavy metals (ICP-MS) and product stability over time. The results showed that Y-90 resin microspheres, Y-90 glass microspheres and Y-90 gel microspheres with particle sizes of 20-30 µm have a high specific activity to meet the quality standards of radiopharmaceuticals according to British Pharmacopoeia 2016. A novel magnetic composite prepared from Fe3O4, poly(vinyl alcohol) and alkaline pretreated spent coffee grounds (Fe3O4/PVA/APSCGs) was utilized for the first time as an adsorbent for adsorption of Pb(II) ions after carefully characterizing it by various techniques (XRD, FTIR, SEM, EDX). The obtained results indicated that the adsorption was spontaneous, endothermic, fitting well with both Langmuir and Freundlich models, and more suitable to be described by the second-order kinetic model. The maximum adsorption capacity of Fe3O4/PVA/APSCGs for Pb(II) at optimum conditions (pH of 5, contact time of 24 h, APSCGs:Fe3O4 weight ratio of 4:1) was found to be 0.275 mmol.g−1. Recycling study showed a good reusability of the composite with removal efficiency maintained at 78.12% after five continuous adsorption-desorption cycles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AbstractObjectivesMethodsResultsConclusionTo evaluate a co-designed intervention using digital resources “Vietnam Cancer Caring Coping” (V-CCC) on the health literacy, depression, and quality of life of caregivers supporting a cancer patient in oncology hospitals in Vietnam.A pre-post quantitative evaluation with adult cancer caregivers across regional Oncology hospitals in Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Can Tho, and Hue). Participants completed baseline and follow-up measures of health literacy (HLS-SF12) depression (PHQ-9) and Health-related Quality of Life (5Q-5D-5L). Participants accessed and reviewed V-CCC for a 2-week period.Two hundred and thirty-four caregivers completed pre and post-tests. Most participants were female (n = 143, 61%), married (n = 165, 70%), aged 18–44 (n = 155, 66%), lived rurally (n = 157, 67%). All health literacy scores of participants in post-intervention were significantly higher than that in pre-intervention across all domain’s healthcare, disease prevention, and health promotion as well as the total score (p < 0.001). A significant reduction in the proportion of caregivers reporting PHQ-9 moderately severe/severe depression post-intervention was demonstrated (10.2 vs. 6.1%, respectively (p ≤ 0.001). No significant differences were observed pre and post-intervention across four 5Q-5D-5L health dimensions: mobility, self-care, usual activities, and pain/discomfort. Regarding anxiety/depression as measured by 5Q-5D-5L the proportion of participants who reported having moderate, severe, and extreme problems in pre- and post-intervention was statistically significant (32 vs. 24%), respectively (p = 0.0028).Co-designed digital resources can reduce health literacy inequities and improve psychological outcomes for cancer caregivers.
