This stand conducts video analysis of mass emergencies through CCTV footages.

This study will map the behavioural and verbal indicators of interoperability. These will be informed from studies 1 and 2 in our current interoperability project and through observation of video material of interoperability trainings. A codebook will be created using ethogram construction techniques (Dawkins, 2007; Jones et al, 2015), with behavioural and verbal indicators of interoperability being given a comprehensive definition and then collapsed into broader behavioural categories. This codebook will be tested for interrater agreement to establish the reliability of each variable.

A pre- and post test survey for UG student attitudes, understanding, awareness, and perception of questionnable research practices as a function of two teaching contexts: a methods based module that teaches open science principles or a single lecture.

‘Procedural justice’ has long been advocated as key to maintaining citizen trust in policing. However, there is very little work analysing how both citizens and police officers judge the four key procedural justice predictors of police legitimacy (participation and voice; fairness and neutrality; dignity and respect; conveying trustworthy motives) in real-life policing events. In a preregistered design, and using a corpus of 44 videos of police-citizen interactions in the United Kingdom, we analyse the way 353 citizens and 353 police officers judge police legitimacy in the interactions. The analysis consists of four initial crossed-random effects mixed-model designs (each testing one procedural justice behavioural predictor on citizen perceptions) and two robustness crossed-random effects mixed-model analyses that explore the impact of other relevant factors on both citizen and police judgements of legitimacy. This combination of pre-registration and ‘real-life’ behavioural data provides the platform for a rigorous test of the procedural justice model.

A series of focus groups will be conducted with experienced emergency responders from the Police, Fire and Rescue, and Ambulance Services. These focus groups will be on the topic of interoperability where we will explore participants views and opinions about multi-agency working. Specifically, we will explore their views about the current state of interoperability, explore their ideas for the future, and identify the role that social-organisational identities might play, building on our prior research (Power, Philpot & Levine, in prep).

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to people worldwide having to go into lockdown and to observe social distancing measures. As people in the UK gradually emerge from the recent lockdown, with non-essential shops opening from 15th June and small private gatherings outdoors allowed, a new normal of socially distant interactions will need to be negotiated. In this study, we will use an app we developed in previous research to understand how people feel and behave as they engage in social interactions with family, friends and strangers over a two week period after the most substantial easing of the recent lockdown. Historians have suggested that the end of pandemics are determined by the normalisation of social interactions rather than medical advances or political decisions. Recording social interactions in near-time can provide us with important insights into the level of anxiety that is felt when interacting with different types of people (e.g., known others or strangers, older people, foreigners), in different locations (indoors/outdoors, public/private) and in response to different personal circumstances. This study serves as a pre-study to understand whether the use of the app is feasible and whether initial results suggest that a wider study could generate useful insights. Participants will first be asked to fill in a pre-study survey assessing their lockdown circumstances, social and political trust, community identification and wellbeing. They will then be asked to record every social interaction with a non-household individual for a 14-day period, including self-report measures of emotions and social distancing but, importantly, no identifying information about the interaction partner. The app will also record GPS data of the interaction location that can be adjusted by the participant. At the end of the study, participants will be asked to fill in a post-study survey to assess changes to the pre-study survey measures and to better understand any challenges to the use of the app as a research tool in these circumstances.

A cross-discipline scoping review of sociotechnical resilience.

The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed unexpected hardship on the health, environment, economic, and social-political governance of the entire human population. Local communities have adopted new ways of communicating and connecting to support each other. This paper reports people's attitudes towards online community support initiatives (OCSIs) during the COVID-19 pandemic based on a survey conducted in the UK. Our analysis of responses from 699 participants suggests the increased use of social media sites and OCSI engagement since the pandemic, and that people had positive attitudes towards the OCSIs, but improvements were still required. We suggest four design implications to alleviate the challenges of using OCSIs.
