This systematic review aims to summarize relevant studies that have evaluated an intervention to prevent bullying and its consequences, in order to highlight main strategies to prevent these episodes. A systematic review of PubMed, ERIC, Education Database, Scopus, SPORTDiscus, and FECYT databases was performed until April 20, 2022. From a total of 410 studies initially found, 12 were included in the qualitative synthesis. These 12 studies presented several interventions. Promising interventions included targeting bullying perpetrators, victims, and bystanders simultaneously, as well as building a perceived caring climate and increasing children's resilience. Summary conclusions found that targeting bullying perpetrators, victims, and bystanders simultaneously can prevent disruptive attitudes and bullying by focusing on social and emotional learning and a positive school climate, which can be helpful in providing physical education teachers with a central role in preventing bullying.

This study explored the status of primary and middle school physical education (PE) teachers' professional knowledge competence (PKC) in the Amhara Region, in Ethiopia. For this, a quantitative research approach was employed and data were collected from 382 randomly selected PE teachers and analysed quantitatively. Findings revealed that the overall PKC of PE was low. Statistically, a significant difference was observed among PE teachers in their content knowledge (CK), pedagogical knowledge (PK), pedagogical content knowledge (PCK), and PKC. Female PE teachers, novice PE teachers, and rural PE teachers were less competent in their CK, PK, and PCK. Besides, unlike in their PK, degree-holder PE teachers have better CK, PCK, and PKC than diploma holders. Accordingly, due care and special intervention need to be given by the education actors in the recruitment, training, and deployment of PE teachers in Ethiopia.

Although the written physical education curriculum is the same throughout the country, the implementation phase in schools differs from each other. Hence the purpose of this study is to examine the implementation process of the 5th-grade physical education and sports curriculum (2018) in different school contexts. Case study pattern was used. The participants of the study are two physical education teachers in Eskisehir. The data collection process consisting of observations, interviews, and field notes was completed in the fall semester of the 2018-2019 academic year. As a result of the analysis, the implementation process of the curriculum sub-theme which is related to the main theme of "taught curriculum", was reached. In conclusion, it can be said that the implementation process in schools is mostly teacher-centred, including the teaching of sports techniques and evaluating the psychomotor domain. It was observed that the game-based and student-centred structure of the updated curriculum was not sufficiently implemented by the teachers in the study. Also, it can be stated that the sufficiency of physical education course materials and the suitability of the areas used in physical education lessons are important factors in the implementation process of the curriculum.

This study takes the teaching innovation of compulsory basketball courses as the research object in the context of teaching innovation of information technology in physical education disciplines in Chinese higher education. It adopts the method of using literature, action research and mathematical statistics. An experimental study was conducted on the application of the offline combined with online group flipped classroom teaching model in the basketball major compulsory course to explore the impact of the model on improving students' basketball instructional design ability. The experiment shows that the post-test t-test result of instructional design ability is -32.217 with a p-value of 0.000, and the experimental group is significantly better than the control group in terms of instructional design ability. It is concluded that the application of offline combined with online group flipped classroom teaching model can very significantly improve students' basketball instructional design ability. The aim is to construct a scientific and feasible teaching practice model for the teaching innovation of physical education courses, and to promote the educational quality change and teaching innovation of physical education professional courses.

Teacher Professional Education (known as PPG) is an Indonesian government programme to produce professional teachers who can implement Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in learning so that students in Indonesia can be expected to have high HOTS. However, in reality, students' HOTS in Indonesia are still low, raising questions about the effectiveness of PPG in producing teachers who can implement HOTS. This study aimed at investigating the implementation of HOTS in physical education learning by teachers who participated in the online PPG programme based on gender and tenure, so that it can be a benchmark by the Indonesian government for the effectiveness of the PPG programme. This was a comparative study and the population comprised 35 physical education teachers who participated in the PPG programme online at Padang State University in 2022 Batch I. The research sample of 30 people was determined by the purposive sampling technique. HOTS implementation data was taken from video documentation of participants' teaching practice and then assessed using 19 items of the Teaching Performance Guidelines. Data were analysed with an independent sample t-test and ANOVA test. The results showed that physical education teachers who participated in the online-based PPG programme were able to implement HOTS into the learning process well, and the implementation of HOTS, based on gender and tenure, was not significantly different.

The aim of this study is to determine the 7-day exercise and physical activity levels of physically disabled athletes located in all geographical regions of Turkey and to examine the factors affecting this. The Physical Activity Scale for Individuals with a Physical Disability was applied as an online survey. The study group consisted of 224 physically disabled athletes, including orthopedic standing, orthopedic wheelchair, visually and hearing impaired athletes. In the analyses, MannWhitney U test for independent groups in binary categorical variables; the Kruskal-Wallis test was used for triple categorical variables. One-Way Analysis of Variance for the Obstacle Type variable, Post-Hoc multiple comparison test was applied for significant differences and Tamhane's T2 Test was used, one of the non-homogeneous Post-Hoc tests. When the 7-day physical activity status of physically disabled individuals is examined; It was determined that they participated in the activity situations in the questions in 3 subcategories for less than 1 hour. It was determined that social media had the highest score in the orientation variables and there was a significant difference between the school/physical education teacher and social media. In the analysis made on the variables of disability types, it was found that there was a significant difference between hearing and orthopedic wheelchair disabled people in repair and gardening work. As a result, it is thought that more licensed athletes should be trained and their participation in sports competitions should be supported in order to enable physically disabled athletes to participate in sports activities in their daily lives, and that individuals can lead a healthy life by increasing their physical activities.

In this study, it was aimed to reveal the ideas of physical education teachers about students' participation in the course and to examine the attitudes of secondary school students towards physical education and sports course. Sequential transformational research model was used in the study. The qualitative part of the research group consisted of 60 physical education and sports teachers working in Balikesir province and the quantitative part consisted of 462 secondary school students studying in Bandirma district. When the qualitative research results are analyzed, it is seen that "negative situations and thoughts" and "negative situations and thoughts" are divided into two categories. When the results of the quantitative research were examined, it was concluded that the attitudes towards physical education and sports course were statistically different in favor of female students according to the gender variable, in favor of students who like physical education and sports course according to the liking status, in favor of students with family members who do sports according to the variable of doing sports in the family, and according to the class category variable; there was no difference according to the variable of being a licensed athlete.

This article advocates for a transformative shift in physical education (PE) from Eurocentric paradigms towards a holistic approach. Drawing on Canadian perspectives prioritizing academic physical, mental, and social development, it underscores the necessity of embracing holistic PE to foster inclusivity, cultural relevance, and lifelong wellness. Through a comprehensive review of literature and research, the article explores the integration of holistic methods for PE by promoting student-centred practices and diverse activities, cultivating physical literacy while embracing self-esteem, resilience, and ecological awareness. This pedagogical approach aims to create a more inclusive and impactful learning environment, nurturing lifelong wellbeing for all students.

Physical education classrooms reflect a range of learners, movers, and abilities. Incoming physical educators report lacking confidence and knowledge in their ability to create inclusive lesson plans. Many undergraduate and liberal studies students are required to take one adaptative physical education pedagogy course; thus, incoming educators tend to lack an array of instructional tools to ensure all students are participating in activities and engaging with peers. The goal of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is for teachers to use a range of strategies by removing barriers to learning and giving students opportunities to experience physical education to the best of their ability. Physical educators have the foundational tools; they just need to envision using those tools differently. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate how, by combining the physical education and UDL frameworks, educators can implement an inclusive lesson with a skills rubric and a summative assessment.

A mixed-methods study was used to determine if an online, mastery-based learning resource was successful in improving content knowledge and retention of critical elements and developmental stages of 16 fundamental movement skills (FMS); a secondary purpose was to determine participant perceptions of their experience with the online resource. Participants (N = 323; motor development (MD) = 94; movement education (ME) = 124; elementary physical education (EPE) = 105) were Teacher Candidates (TCs) in a Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) Program. Pre- and post-survey data, and pre-, post-, and retention test scores were used to evaluate the program's effectiveness. Paired samples t-tests indicated higher post-test scores for MD ([delta]37.23, p < 0.001, d = 2.32) and ME ([delta]32.12, p < 0.001, d = 1.72). Results from a one-way ANOVA indicated significant improvement and retention of test scores over time, F(3, 331) = 27.761, p < 0.001, [eta-squared] = 0.963. Perceptions of PETE TCs reported positive reactions to the use of the online modules to improve their ability to analyze FMS. Based on these findings, the authors propose that implementing an online, mastery-based resource to analyze FMS may be a positive learning experience for TCs and could lead to long-term content knowledge acquisition of critical elements of FMS.

Nowadays, we face a profound fragmentation of knowledge, which is addressed in distinctive ways, conforming to the specifics of each field of knowledge and having a specific lexicon and ways to interpret reality. To better understand and communicate the complexity of the reality of motor and sports sciences in Italy, it is necessary to study its ontology based on a holistic and comprehensive approach such as System Thinking (ST). So, this preliminary review aimed to verify the coherence of terminology used by Italian academics (who study methodologies related to teaching) and practical communities (who live the reality of daily teaching) in motor and sports sciences, specifically regarding the didactic of physical and sports education. For this purpose, according to Design Based Research (DBR), a first investigation of the interpretative semantics of the discipline's specific terms was accomplished with the support of multiple sources of information such as documents, databases, and brainstorming performed by experts (representing the guiding team and stakeholders from all considered communities). Moreover, the frequency of some terms and keywords considered in European (ERC) and Italian (CUN) legislation was assessed to contextualize better the impact of common practice community keywords on the scientific and regulatory community. Successively, the studies that analyzed the terms from 2000 to 2020 in the leading scientific search engines (SCOPUS and Web of Science) were also investigated. Results indicate that in the CUN and ERC areas, there is a total absence of the most relevant lemma to the community of practice. Furthermore, significant terms such as play, sports education, psychomotricity, and gymnastics are less considered or unconsidered in the specific scientific and didactic fields. Possible solutions for a specific semantic model to reduce the gap are finally hypothesized and presented.

The current study was conducted to investigate the relationship between occupational personality types, 21st-century skills, and teaching motivation. The study was conducted in the descriptive relational survey model, one of the quantitative research methods. The study group consisted of all the students attending the Physical Education Teaching Department at Faculty of Sports Sciences of Mugla Sitki Koçman University. A total of 148 (F=59, M=89) students were included in the study. The questionnaire method was employed to collect the data in the study. The questionnaire consists of four parts: a personal information form in the first part and three scales in the following three parts. In the second part, there is the "21st Century Skills Self-Efficacy Perception Scale" consisting of 42 items, in the third part, there is the "Occupational Personality Types Inventory" consisting of 30 items and in the fourth part, there is the "Teaching Motivation Scale" consisting of 12 items. The SPSS v22 program package was used in the analysis of the collected data. As a result of the study, a significant correlation was found between occupational personality types and 21st-century skills self-efficacy perceptions, between the six personality types of occupational personality and intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, and between 21st-century skills self-efficacy perceptions and intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. According to the results of regression analyses, occupational personality types had a significant effect on intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.

Teachers' professional vision (TPV) is an essential contributor to enhancing the quality of teaching-learning processes thanks to its potential effect on teachers' self-reflective skills. This is of particular importance in Physical Education (PE), due to the fact that this subject presents different challenges and more dynamic situations compared to others. One of the latest approaches for enhancing TPV is video-based reflection, allowing teachers to observe and analyze recorded lessons. This research aimed to test the effect of a video-based reflection program on TPV in PE. Two teachers participated in a 3-step video-analysis program consisting of self-reflection, peer reflection, and expert feedback. Notable changes were found in TPV at the end of the 6-month intervention, both in terms of teachers' selective attention to classroom events and their knowledge-based reasoning. Our findings suggest that video-based reflection interventions could represent an important component of any teacher training program aiming to increase PE teachers' ability to evaluate and respond to a variety of in-class situations.

SDG 2030 Goal No. 3 highlights the importance of good health and well-being. The promotion of this goal cannot be fully realized in basic education without paying attention to physical education. The purpose of this study is to explore the implementation of the physical education curriculum using the hyflex learning modality. This study utilized a qualitative research method using a case study analysis employing focus group interviews. Purposive sampling was used to identify the participants in the study. Hyflex served as a practical modality for teachers to become efficient in responding to the context of the school. There were several opportunities observed such as accessibility and flexibility of class sessions and familiarity on the use of technology. However, challenges were also observed in technological resources, assessment and monitoring of online distance learners (ODLs), and equity and equality in learning needs. The hyflex learning modality is a practical guide for curriculum innovations in physical education and a practical modality in times of disasters or pandemic.

Given that teacher dropout is an issue for beginning teachers, it is important to be proactive in order to retain teachers within the profession. Physical Education pre-service teachers' education programs represent a crucial part of their professional development in preparing them to face the challenges that often explain retirement, especially students' motivation. Authors recognize the importance of considering pre-service teachers' needs during teacher education programs and their concerns about the challenges to be faced once they start teaching (Richards et al., 2013). Using a qualitative approach, this study aims to: (1) identify pre-service Physical Education teachers' perceptions of anticipated challenges in general, (2) identify the specific challenges they anticipate about supporting students' motivation and (3) describe how they can be prepared to support students' motivation. Participants consisted of 18 pre-service Physical Education teachers (M[subscript age] = 25; SD = 3.61 years) from French-language universities in Quebec (Canada). Four focus groups were conducted, and data were analyzed consistent with the four steps suggested by Boutin (2007). Results indicate that the main challenges anticipated by pre-service Physical Education teachers are classroom management and students' lack of motivation. In terms of supporting students' motivation, five specific challenges were highlighted: (1) student heterogeneity, (2) proposal of learning activities to support motivation, (3) student engagement, (4) management of disengaged students, and (5) gender differences. As for their needs during teacher education program, participants wished to learn how to plan motivational strategies, be given more opportunities to practice, and discuss how to implement these strategies. Recommendations for teacher education programs are discussed in the conclusion.

The study determined the self-reported Zoom exhaustion and fatigue (ZEF) levels of physical education teacher education (PETE) students in the Philippines who are attending a flexible learning setup (i.e., synchronous and asynchronous learning) offered by their university as a solution to continue classes during the coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 pandemic. Utilizing a cross-sectional comparative research design, the study indicates that PETE students were very tired and exhausted both in general and visually after a series of video conferencing within a semester. Furthermore, they were socially-, motivationally-, and emotionally- moderately tired and exhausted. It was observed that students in the PETE program experienced moderate to very tired and exhausted levels of fatigue whenever they participated in synchronous online classes, such as attendance at a video teleconferencing platform. Exploration of how specific mental aspects relate to their general health with regard to their culture and habits is worth exploring, either for students, teachers, or professionals in general.

Interprofessional Education (IPE) prepares students in the healthcare field for collaborative practices. Faculty perceptions of IPE have been investigated among several health professions. We assess athletic training (AT) faculty perceptions of the importance of the four IPE competencies, their attitudes towards IPE, their attitudes and beliefs about IPE in the academic settings, their perceived barriers, and opportunities towards implementing IPE in AT curricula; and how these have changed. This study utilized a cross-sectional online survey administered anonymously in 2017 and 2022. The study population was faculty from accredited AT education programs in the USA identified through the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA). We find that in the last five years, faculty perception of IPE has shifted to a more positive attitude toward understanding and implementing IPE in AT programs. However, data showed no significant differences between the initial and follow-up studies. Values and ethics and teams and teamwork were the two competencies ranked the highest in both studies. Younger respondents ranked communication higher than older respondents. Barriers to IPE implementation included lack of resources, allocated funding, and institutional support. The creation of an IPE program coordinator was one of the opportunities highlighted. Faculty of AT programs are aware of the importance of IPE and demonstrated a general positive attitude toward implementing IPE in their AT curricula. However, several barriers have been identified, including a perceived negative attitudes toward AT from other health professions.

In online learning as a form of distance education, "Learning Management Systems (LMS)" have become one of the most dynamic forms of higher education today. LMS components play an important role in assessing both the quality of online educational offerings and student performance. The focus of this study is whether LMS activities significantly predict student academic performance in online pedagogical education. The participants of the study consisted of 511 prospective physical education teachers taking pedagogical online education via LMS in the spring semester of 2022-2023 at a state college in Turkey. The study data consisted of the participants' learning activity assessments via LMS and their academic performance at the end of the semester. The learning activity scores were obtained from the LMS student tracking report and the end-of-semester academic performance scores were obtained from the college's "Student Information System (SIS)". The results of this study, in which correlation and hierarchical linear regression analyzes were conducted, showed that each online learning activity significantly predicted academic performance. The relative order of importance of learning activities on academic performance was found to be "number of course document downloads," "asynchronous course viewing time," "course video viewing time," and "synchronous course participation time." While the number of course document downloads alone explained 36% of the variation in academic performance scores, this variation increased to 41% with synchronous course participation time, 52% with asynchronous course viewing time, and finally 68% with course video viewing time. Although each LMS activity had a positive effect on academic performance, following lessons from downloaded documents, asynchronous lesson viewing, and video viewing were found to rank first in increasing academic performance, while synchronous course participation ranked last. Consequently, asynchronous LMS activities have a stronger impact on students' academic performance in online learning.

Background: The use of the Curriculum Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) and delivery of Physical Education (PE) concerning time allocation, resources and number of learners per class is crucial for optimal delivery to the intermediate-phase (IP) learner. Aim: This study aimed to determine the gap between the understanding and the interpretation of the content and requirements of the CAPS document, and the delivery of PE in the IP, in selected public schools in the Alberton region of Gauteng province, South Africa. Setting: Alberton, a suburb of Johannesburg, was identified. This geographical area was divided into four segments. Two primary schools from each segment were purposefully selected according to the quintile levels. Methods: A mixed method of data gathering was used. Questionnaires were administered and focus-group discussions (FGDs) were held. Participants were selected using a purposive sampling method. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics. Qualitative data were analysed using direct quotes and themes. Results: The findings are in line with the results of the South African Universities Physical Education Association (SAUPEA) National Research Project in that teachers require further training on the interpretation of the CAPS document. Aspects of the CAPS document cannot be executed because of time allocation, class size, and a lack of resources and equipment. Conclusion: To adhere to the expectations of the CAPS document, the use of available facilities, equipment, number of learners per class, and time allocation in PE need improvement. Contribution: Enriching the PE curriculum through collaborating with stakeholders in local communities and governmental support.

Engaging with physical education teachers who were compelled to integrate technology into their lessons during the COVID-19 pandemic is crucial to understanding how the pandemic has presented this 'new normal' circumstance. It is vital to gain insight into the initial experiences of physical education (PE) teachers who transitioned to online physical education (OLPE) teaching, as well as to identify potential areas for improvement in the future. This study investigated the perspectives of secondary school PE teachers on OLPE teaching during the COVID-19 lockdown, their professional development, online training opportunities and future perceptions. Using a mixed-methods approach, this study analysed data from 35 secondary school PE teachers in Fiji, using Google Forms to collect quantitative data and semi-structured interviews for qualitative data. The quantitative data was categorized by age, gender, school setting, qualifications, and teaching experience, while the qualitative data was analysed by themes. The study found that teachers struggled with OLPE due to lack of preparedness, poor Internet connectivity, and lack of emphasis on PE during lockdown. Despite their readiness, integrating technology remains challenging due to a lack of incentives, limited support, and fear of the unknown. The study emphasises the vital importance of technology in creating engaging and relevant PE experiences and recommends the provision of specialised resources, personalised curriculum guidance, and a change in teacher training institutions' paradigms to incorporate contemporary technological applications in PE.

The ongoing underrepresentation of Iraqi school students in science, mathematics, and PE (physical education) (SMPE) in general, and especially in PE demonstrates the need to develop and implement strategic high impact practice, such as new effective teaching strategies that not only improve students' academic outcomes but also foster student development holistically. In Iraqi schools, there is a need to help students persist and remain interested in their discipline and academic level; hence, this study aims to explore the effects of various PE STA (spectrum teaching approaches), the TGFU (teaching game for understanding), and TTA (traditional teaching approach) on intermediate school students' HBS (basic handball skills). A total of 90 male students participated in the present study. In EGs (experimental groups), the STA and TGFU were employed for EG1 (experimental group one) and EG2 (experimental group two), while the TTA was used for CG (control group). The results of the SPANOVA test showed a significant effect of the STA and TGFU approaches in enhancing the BHS in favour of the STA. However, there were no statistically significant differences in the interaction between Test time and teaching groups. The value of research does not require only coming up with solutions to a problem (under study) but also revealing new concerns worthy of investigation and analysis, such as investigating this tool's effectiveness in teaching other sports.

The staffing and outsourcing of the marginalised curriculum area Health and Physical Education (HPE) has been an area of growing concern, alongside rising concerns for the decline of students' health due to increased sedentary behaviour and mental health problems, yet there has been little research attention to the staffing and delivery of HPE in Australian schools. This article addresses that gap in understanding with analysis of data from a larger study examining positioning and implementation of HPE in schools. A mixed methods questionnaire was completed by 30% of government schools in New South Wales (n = 556) providing data on staffing, delivery and outsourcing arrangements. Findings suggested that specialist HPE teachers are not in-charge of teaching HPE; and the majority (67%) of schools outsource at least some HPE, with far-reaching impacts on curriculum coverage and student exclusion from lessons evident. Findings also suggested that students experience varied methods of delivery in Physical Education (PE), and Health Education (HE) lessons. Together, these findings raise questions regarding the assurance of quality and equity, with implications for future policy and practice and the health and wellbeing of school children.

This study examined how preservice teachers (PSTs) develop adaptive competence in teaching peers in an introductory physical education pedagogy course underpinned by a pedagogical cycle designed to promote adaptive teaching competence. Two guiding research questions were: (a) what was the total number of adaptations that PSTs made in their peer teaching? and (b) what were the total numbers of missed content (MC) that PSTs had in their peer teaching? We used a descriptive-analytic study to evaluate teaching data from 22 PSTs. The course included different pedagogical strategies (e.g. discussing teaching scenarios, repeated teaching, and reflecting on teaching) to develop adaptive competence. A total of 85 teaching videos were analyzed using three coding variables (adaptations added, adaptation corrections, and MC) by comparing them with the PSTs' lesson plans. The descriptive analyses showed that all PSTs were able to make substantive and consistent teaching adaptations across the five-week period. The amount of MC decreased across the five weeks. This study demonstrated that the pedagogical cycle designed to promote adaptive teaching competence was effective in helping PSTs make adaptations to their teaching. Simply providing PSTs opportunities to teach or teach repetitively is not sufficient to develop adaptive competence. Intentional integration of the pedagogical strategies is essential to equipping PSTs with effective teaching skills and knowledge, and helping them connect theory and practice with ongoing feedback and reflection.

Formative assessment (FA) is an effective educational approach for optimising student learning and is considered as a promising avenue for assessment within physical education (PE). Nevertheless, implementing FA is a complex and demanding task for in-service PE teachers who often lack formal training on this topic. To better support PE teachers in implementing FA into their practice, we need better insight into teachers' experiences while designing and implementing formative strategies. However, knowledge on this topic is limited, especially within PE. Therefore, this study examined the experiences of 15 PE teachers who participated in an 18-month professional development programme. Teachers designed and implemented various formative activities within their PE lessons, while experiences were investigated through logbook entries and focus groups. Findings indicated various positive experiences, such as increased transparency in learning outcomes and success criteria for students as well as increased student involvement, but also revealed complexities, such as shifting teacher roles and insufficient feedback literacy among students. Overall, the findings of this study underscore the importance of a sustained, collaborative, and supported approach to implementing FA.

Grounded in self-determination theory, an integrative and fine-grained circumplex model, based on teachers' autonomy support, structure, control, and chaos, has been proposed. The present study aimed to examine possible differences in students' perceptions of physical education (PE) teachers' motivating and demotivating styles and the eight different approaches, respectively, regarding students' socio-demographic variables, and different affective, cognitive, and behavioral outcomes. A sample of 669 Spanish secondary students aged 12-17 years (mean age (M[subscript age]) = 14.65; standard deviation (SD) = 1.47; 52% girls) participated in this cross-sectional study. Boys reported significantly higher values in the chaotic style and the domineering approach than girls. Second- and third-cycle students (Year 10, Year 11, and Year 12) reported significantly higher values in autonomy-supportive and structuring styles, and significantly lower values in the domineering approach than first-cycle students (Year 8 and Year 9). Second-cycle students (Year 10 and Year 11) reported significantly higher values in the demanding approach than first-cycle students (Year 8 and Year 9). Third-cycle students (Year 12) reported significantly lower values in the awaiting approach than the first-cycle students (Year 8 and Year 9). Finally, as a whole, students who reported positive experiences in PE, high learning, and high intention to participate in physical activity reported significantly higher values in autonomy-supportive and structuring styles, as well as the demanding approach, and significantly lower values in the chaotic style. The results highlight the importance of PE teachers adopting motivating styles and avoiding demotivating styles, especially with boys and lower grade levels, to promote meaningful experiences in PE and an active lifestyle.

The importance of physical educators obtaining a discipline-specific appearance as role models is documented in the literature. Previous research has examined the influence of physical education teachers' body fatness, (dis)ability, and age on pupils' learning and perceptions of the teachers. To expand the research line, this study focused on teachers' formal/informal appearance and their sex. Four 20-minute videos consisting of female informal appearance (FIA), female formal appearance (FFA), male informal appearance (MIA), and male formal appearance (MFA) were created to collect data from 533 high school pupils. A content examination and a perception questionnaire were used to measure cognitive performance and perceptions of the teachers. Factorial analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted to identify any significant main effects or interaction effects on the tchoukball examination, two content areas (i.e. techniques and strategies), and perceptions of three teacher characteristics (i.e. likability, competence, and appropriateness as a role model). Findings revealed significant main effects for teacher appearance on the overall examination and both content areas. Participants who watched the informal appearance videos scored significantly higher than those who watched the formal appearance videos. Furthermore, there was an interaction effect on the strategy portion of the examination. Participants who watched the MIA video scored the highest, followed by those who watched the FIA, FFA, and MFA videos. Factorial ANOVA found no significant main effect or interaction effect on the three teacher characteristics. One key conclusion indicates that the formal/informal appearance is far more open to interpretation than the (dis)ability and age aspects.

Teacher educators shape curriculum in the pedagogical decisions they make (Lunenberg et al., 2007). Yet, evidence is lacking about how physical education (PE) teacher educators make decisions about what to include in their teacher education pedagogies. Four teacher educators in four different PE teacher education (PETE) programmes collaborated to examine their decision-making as they explored ideas related to Meaningful PE and social justice pedagogies. Insight into how teacher educators make decisions can add nuance to understanding pedagogical decision-making in PETE. A self-study of teacher education practices frame supported collective and individual interrogation of our decision-making processes. Data included planning documentation for each teaching episode (n = 42), individual reflections (n = 33), recordings of conversations with critical friends (n = 15), and recordings of collective meetings (n = 8). Pedagogical confrontations (Moran et al., 2019) provided a lens for each teacher educator to gain perspective and insight into their decision-making related to Meaningful PE and social justice pedagogies The findings are presented in the form of four individual cases that illustrate the distinct story of each teacher educator's engagement with Meaningful PE and social justice pedagogies. Teacher educators' decisions were guided by their purposes and influenced by their contexts. Additionally, peers were an important source of pedagogical confrontations to influence decision-making practices. This research contributes to the understanding of innovation in PETE by illustrating how clarity about priorities promotes deliberate decision-making by teacher educators resulting in adoption or rejection of innovation.

This paper reports on the first phase of a longitudinal project investigating the perceived purposes that different stakeholders have for primary physical education (PE). In the study, the views of 19 teacher educators from seven countries across Europe were sought. While teacher educators may have some influence across the layers of an education system, little is known about this stakeholder group and their views about primary PE. Analysis of focus group conversations depicts that, while the teacher educators come from a wide range of contexts, their views on the purposes of primary PE were more similar than different. With primary PE in danger of disconnecting into different schools of thought, this finding is important because it suggests that more coherent and connected approaches have the potential to be developed. In line with most government policies from the seven countries, similarities focused on both an educational and outward-looking view of primary PE. Significantly, while the teacher educators recognised the key role of physical learning in primary PE, they also highlighted how children's social, emotional, and cognitive learning form part of an integrated view of primary PE. Teacher educators recognised the importance of primary PE expanding beyond the hall/gymnasium and into classroom, school, and community settings. However, some concerns were voiced about the influence of outsourcing and sport agendas that currently dominate. The views of these teacher educators offer a useful starting point for further investigation, particularly as they present the purposes of primary PE from both an integrated and educational perspective.

Physical education teacher communities have been studied and implemented as a successful approach to teacher professional development. Despite a wealth of literature, less is known about three aspects: sustained nature of a community over time, power relations among community members, and a comprehensive case study. This study aimed to address these gaps in the literature by investigating the journey of a physical education community of practice (CoP) in South Korea. In this intrinsic case study, seven core members were interviewed using a timeline drawing method to elicit the stories behind the community's history. In addition, field notes from observations and documents from the official community website were used to corroborate the interview data. Inductive and collaborative data analysis organised the community's history into four phases: Beginning, Rise, Fall, and Comeback. Detailed explanations of each phase represent what happened and how the community evolved over time. Discussions suggested, first, that changing power relations facilitate different types of learning in CoPs. Initially, a strong leader drove learning as experiencing and doing, but as power shifted to members, the community changed to learning as belonging and becoming. Second, conflict can be a natural process to revisit the shared vision. Since the shared vision is not static but rather reflects contextual values, community members should revisit and discuss it as conflicts arise. Third, community engagement can be understood as an opportunity to gain recognition. This research underscores the significance of understanding long-term teacher motivation and the collective factors that drive it through community engagement.

Assessment has become a routine feature of school life, internationally. Little is known, however, about the consequences for young people of assessment and grading in physical education (PE) -- a subject often associated with physical recreation. This paper explores young Norwegian's perceptions of assessment and grading in PE from a sociological perspective. In doing so, it contemplates the penetration of neo-liberal discourses as part of wider processes of globalization and Europeanization in school PE in Norway. The study utilizes data generated by 31 focus groups involving 148 youngsters from the 10th grade (15-16-year-olds) in eight purposively sampled secondary schools in Norway. Norwegian PE teachers continue to use tests in order to set grades in PE. The upshot is that students' enjoyment of and engagement in PE, as well as their self-identities and self-esteem, can be compromised by apprehension towards assessment and grading. These processes seem likely to undermine or even erode the potential sociopsychological benefits of PE for some young people by reinforcing the impression that the subject is fast becoming just one more outcome-oriented subject on an academic treadmill. In this regard, the ascendancy of neo-liberalism -- associated with the twin challenges of globalization and European integration -- appears to merely reinforce the hegemony of competitive individualism within PE in Norway, as elsewhere.

Introduction: The level of professional satisfaction in teachers is an important issue in terms of high work motivation and employee performance. In addition, high professional satisfaction is a factor that contributes to teachers' more positive approach to the education process. Methods: This study aims to examine the teaching-learning conceptions and professional satisfaction levels of physical education teachers. A total of 310 physical education teachers, 129 female and 181 male, working in primary and high schools participated in the study. A relational scanning model was used in this research. The Teaching and Learning Conceptions Scale and Minnesota Job Satisfaction Scale were used as data collection tools. Results: It has been observed that there is a positive relationship between teachers' understanding of teaching-learning and their level of professional satisfaction. Discussion: The constructivist understanding levels of the teachers participating in the research regarding the teaching-learning process were high, while their traditional understanding levels were below the medium level. Limitations: This research was limited to 310 physical education teachers working at different education levels. Conclusions: It can be said that the teaching-learning understanding of physical education teachers is a determinant of professional satisfaction.

The goal of this study was to predict the preservice physical education teachers' (PPETs) occupational socialization (OS) by their pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) and to investigate the relationship between them. The participants were 56 PPETs from a physical education teacher education (PETE) undergraduate program in the northeastern United States. This research work utilized the mixed-methods research design. An online survey with the PCK standard test, the teachers' occupational beliefs survey, and a semistructured interview were used to collect data. The PPETs' PCK significantly predicted their OS. More PCK would lead to more positive and professional OS development. Furthermore, the methods classes were the most important resource to learn PCK and develop the OS of the PPETs. There is a close and direct relationship between PPETs' PCK and OS, and early field experience (EFE) is a common carrier. It is possible to use PPETs' PCK to infer their OS development, and quantitative methods are effective for examining both factors. PETE programs should purposefully set up EFEs to improve PPETs' PCK and OS simultaneously.

This study investigated physical education teachers' competencies in virtual classroom management. The study was designed as a cross-sectional study using quantitative research methods and included 726 physical education teachers working in different secondary and high schools in Turkey. The study data were collected using the "Teachers' Virtual Classroom Management Competence Scale." The research found that physical education teachers were still deciding about their competence in managing relationships with students in the virtual classroom. Still, they were competent in the dimensions of virtual classroom activities and virtual classroom management. Further research analyzed the effects of some sociodemographic variables on teachers' competencies in transitioning from traditional classroom management to virtual classroom management. The analysis showed that gender and work experience had a medium effect, virtual classrooms had a significant impact, and school level had a weak effect on teachers' virtual classroom competencies. The educational level variable did not significantly impact teachers' online classroom management competencies. In conclusion, in modern classrooms with a shift from traditional classrooms to online classrooms, physical education teachers are expected to be more effective in their relationships with students in online classrooms.

The interruption of regular physical exercise among Chinese college students is a key cause of the lack of motivation to exercise. Therefore, on the basis of self-efficacy theory, this study analysed the interrelationships between the perception of transformational leadership in physical education (PE) by teachers, physical self-efficacy, and exercise adherence among Chinese college students. A questionnaire survey was conducted using a convenience sample of 448 students from five universities in Hebei Province, China. They perceived transformational leadership by PE teachers to significantly positively influence exercise adherence. In addition, physical self-efficacy partially mediated the relationship between college students' perceptions of transformational leadership by PE teachers and exercise adherence. These findings suggest that university administrators could encourage PE teachers to make greater use of transformational leadership and improve education and guidance regarding physical self-efficacy for college students to promote exercise adherence.

Introduction: Different international guidelines indicate the need for improving educational procedures. This study aims to contribute to the professional development training program of higher education professors from a Physical Education Teacher Education degree in México. Methodology: This qualitative study used a participatory action research design through four cycles: (a) diagnosis; (b) elaboration of the action plan; (c) implementation and evaluation; and (d) feedback. The participants were the professor, six experts, and 17 students. Data were collected from semistructured interviews with students and the professor, the analysis of the class syllabus, and nonparticipatory observations. Findings: The importance of carrying out a diagnostic cycle allowed us to identify the specific needs of the class. Similarly, the model of development and evaluation of academic competencies (M-DECA) allowed the professor to develop specific pedagogical and disciplinary competencies from the training program. Conclusion: A continuous professional development training program for university professors in pedagogical and disciplinary strategies generates better learning results. The inclusion of innovative content in the class syllabus was also crucial.

Working with trauma-affected youth in physical education (PE) can be a challenging and, at times, stressful and emotionally demanding process. Whilst little is known about how student trauma affects in-service teachers, even less is known about how it might impact pre-service PE teachers. The aims of this paper are therefore to (1) explore pre-service PE teachers' experiences of working with students affected by trauma, and (2) consider the potential implications of this for their well-being. Through an online professional learning programme, we worked with three distinct groups of pre-service PE teachers (n = 22). The workshops generated data through individual activities and group tasks that allowed participants to reflect on their experiences. Findings revealed that pre-service teachers had several encounters during their school-based placements with young people who may have experienced trauma. These experiences were felt by the pre-service PE teachers -- both emotionally and physically. Pre-service PE teachers were encouraged to develop self-care strategies; however, our participants indicated that this was not always easy to do. That said, pre-service PE teachers were able to describe some of the strategies they engaged with to take care of themselves and safeguard their own well-being. Many of these strategies were relational and involved spending time with others -- such as school colleagues (teachers and/or mentors) -- who were available to offer both practical and emotional guidance and support. Thus, our findings reinforce the importance of pre-service teachers learning about self-care and emotional regulation as part of initial teacher education courses.

Assessment is a key element in the teaching-learning process in physical education (PE). In 2020, the Association Internationale des Écoles Supérieures d'Éducation Physique (AIESEP) published a position statement on PE assessment, in which it reviews the current state of the field and establishes the current yet forward-looking main lines of research on this topic. The most widely used approach, which this article reviews in depth, is assessment for learning (AfL). In Spain, the most widespread approach employed in PE throughout primary and secondary education in the last 25 years has been formative and shared assessment, which clearly aligns with the AIESEP position statement. The objective of this study was to gain an understanding of the main contributions of the formative and shared assessment model in PE and PE teacher education (PETE). Four databases (ERIC, SCOPUS, WOS and DIALNET) were explored, and 51 documents were selected on which an inductive thematic analysis was conducted. The evidence obtained at different educational levels and contexts seems to show a positive influence of formative and shared assessment on learning outcomes, which has favoured the expansion of the model, especially in PETE. Research on the transfer of PETE to educational practice has indicated that adequate continuing professional development seems necessary to help teachers integrate formative and shared assessment in their PE classroom. In conclusion, this model can provide an answer to some of the current questions being raised at an international level about PE assessment, especially in relation to students' involvement in the assessment process and its role in PETE.

Scholars have long questioned the impact of teacher education programmes. Persistent claims are that pre-service teachers have fixed ideas about pedagogy when they enter training and that they become enculturated once in the profession. Within physical education (PE), similar concerns have been raised with respect to ball games. Research suggests that pre-service PE teachers typically have substantial experience of ball sports and find it difficult to implement non-traditional ball games pedagogies when they enter schools. Against this background, the aim of the study is to explore how pre-service teachers recontextualise ball games as pedagogic discourse in their transitions from university to school placement. Bernstein's pedagogic device and pedagogic discourse are employed as the theoretical framework. The investigation focuses on a Swedish PETE programme and the participants are six pre-service teachers. The empirical material consists of written assessments, observations of the pre-service teachers' lessons during school placements, and individual interviews. Findings suggest that the pedagogic discourse of ball games at the university was aligned with course learning outcomes and included the need to communicate goals, adapt and modify teaching, and combine different approaches. The pedagogic discourse at school placement involved traditional ball games, minimal curriculum references, progression in two or three lessons, and inclusive, enjoyable lessons. Factors that regulated the discourse were: familiarity with the pupils; the conceptualizing of inclusive teaching; norms regarding ball games in PE; expectations of the pre-service teachers; and the framing of ball games education in PETE. Recontextualising rules highlight challenges in transitions related to ball games.

Student's motivation towards physical education (PE) classes is a key factor for increasing physical activity (PA) levels in children. In order to increase motivation in PE, new teaching techniques are needed, such as gamification. This study examines the potential influence of gamification in PE classes on motivation-related variables such as basic psychological needs (BPNs) and positive behaviours in primary school students, considering the perceptions of students and teachers. A total of nine teachers and 506 primary students participated in this study: 250 from a gamified group and 256 from a control group. The students filled in the BPNs in the Classroom Scale in order to measure three BPNs (autonomy, competence and relatedness). In addition, the perceptions, feelings, and behaviours of the students and teachers were analysed and classified through drawings, teacher's diaries, and focus groups. An improvement in the three BPNs, namely autonomy (p < 0.001), competence (p < 0.001) and relatedness (p < 0.001), was observed for the gamified group compared to the control group. The qualitative findings showed a perceived increase in student motivation, participation, and cooperation behaviours. Students also reported values such as respect, and rejection of contempt and harassment. In short, gamification was associated with an increase in all BPNs and positive behaviours in primary school students in gamified PE classes compared to non-gamified classes.

This year-long action research (AR) study, conducted in the context of a physical education teacher education (PETE) program in Portugal, explored how critical reflection among preservice teachers (PSTs) developed in response to tailored questioning by an external facilitator (EF). Participants were six PSTs and the first author, who assumed the dual role of EF and researcher. Four AR cycles, each involving a self-reflection analysis, intervention, and the development of the PSTs' reflections were completed. During each AR cycle, the EF examined the PSTs' teaching-learning practices and views and generated tailored questions to support critical reflection. Data were collected through focus group interviews and written reflective journals. The EF also made participant observations to contextualize each PST's teaching-learning process, resulting in field notes. Using various question types (e.g. leading, probing, and procedural next-step questions) designed to address individual needs, PSTs progressed from a basic reflection level to thinking critically about their teaching-learning practices. The questions were helpful for PSTs in interpreting daily issues faced in teaching-learning and understanding the relevance of self-analysis and attention to learners' needs in fostering critical reflection. Given these results, we recommend that PETE programs incorporate a component or module explicitly promoting reflection on and analysis of PSTs' pedagogical practices.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had both short- and long-term impacts on the institution of schooling, as well as on teachers and students who experienced it. While much has been learned about the impact of the pandemic, including in physical education, less is known about how physical education teachers navigated the sociopolitical realities of their work as they were socialized through the pandemic. Adopting occupational socialization theory, the purpose of this study was to examine the experiences of Midwestern US physical educators during the COVID-19 pandemic and the lasting implications for their careers. Participants were 30 in-service physical education teachers (20 female and 10 male) from one state in the US Midwest who each participated in a semi-structured interview. Semi-structured interviews were audio-recorded and analyzed using a multiphase collaborative qualitative analysis method grounded in analytic induction and deduction and focused on thematic development. Data analysis resulted in four themes: (a) changing instructional modalities was challenging but prompted creativity and growth; (b) resources were scarce, and marginalization was intensified through the pandemic; (c) recognizing and responding to changes in teacher and student health; and (d) stressors associated with COVID-19 may influence teachers' career trajectories. This study not only adds to the literature related to COVID-19 but also is important for understanding how the schools' culture changes through times of crisis. It is likely that other local, regional, national, or international events will cause disruptions in teachers' work and the nature of student learning in the future.

Digital technologies promote active, interactive, collaborative, and immersive learning but the challenge of how to prepare teachers effectively for digital technology utilisation in the instructional process remains a pertinent problem for education institutions. Guided by task-technology fit theory, this research delves into technology use by teachers and argues that efficacy of utilisation is contingent on technology compatibility with teachers' tasks. Using the context of wearable technology, this research examines the links between task-technology fit, teaching innovativeness, and teacher readiness to use wearables in teaching. 346 survey responses from physical education teachers in Kuwait were analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling. The analysis evaluates hypothesised relationships and considers the roles of task and technology characteristics, information and communication technology proficiency, and attitudes towards co-creation. The survey results suggest that there is a strong correlation between task-technology fit, teaching innovativeness, and teacher readiness. Furthermore, the results provide empirical evidence that task and technology characteristics positively relate to task-technology fit, while technology proficiency and attitudes towards co-creation positively relate to teaching innovativeness. The findings carry theoretical implications related to factors influencing task-technology fit and its relationship with teaching innovativeness. In practical terms, the findings advise supporting teachers' digital skills and integrating fit considerations into education technology selection. Overall, this study provides added value to theory by positing that teacher readiness can be explained by both task-technology fit and teacher innovativeness. This readiness context changes the dynamics of constructs within task-technology fit theory -- creating a stronger relationship between technology characteristics and task-technology fit.

Given the complexity of teaching, continuing teacher professional development (CPD) is essential for maintaining and enhancing teaching effectiveness, and bridging the gap between ever-evolving theory and practice. Technological advancements have opened new opportunities for digital tools to support CPD. However, the successful integration of such digital tools into practice poses challenges. It requires adherence to CPD prerequisites and acknowledgment of the complexity of the professional development process. This study explored the applicability of the developed digital PE teacher professional development TARGET-tool in a secondary school PE context. We examined the perceived usability of this tool and gained insights into the process of teachers' professional development as a result of using the tool. Ten PE teachers from different schools implemented the TARGET-tool within their PE context for a period of 4 to 6 weeks. Individual semi-structured interviews and the System Usability Scale provided insights into the perceived usability and the process of teacher professional development. The TARGET-tool demonstrated its potential as an effective tool for supporting teachers' professional development. Future tool improvements were identified to further optimize the perceived usability, such as simplifying complex features, providing additional support and resources, and improving (data) presentations. Using the Interconnected Model of Professional Growth as a theoretical basis, it was demonstrated how the use of the TARGET-tool engages teachers as active and reflective participants in their professional development and induces changes within the external domain, the domain of practice, the domain of consequences, and the personal domain.

Differentiated instruction remains one of the most important frameworks for the global education community to achieve sustainable educational development goals and inclusive education. It is also one of the most critical challenges for teachers in different subjects. This study used structural equation modeling to examine the role of teachers' practices and beliefs in implementing differentiated instruction in physical education. Using a sample of 527 preservice teachers, we found that a growth mindset was the strongest predictor of differentiated instruction, followed by flexible grouping and differentiating the curriculum. In addition, multiple mediation analyses revealed that differentiating the curriculum and flexible grouping mediated the relationship between a growth mindset and differentiated instruction. We also guide teacher educators to develop teachers' growth mindsets and help teachers better understand differentiated instruction in physical education.

Predetermined professional development (PD) programmes delivered by external experts are the usual approach to enhancing the teaching of physical education (PE) in disadvantaged school contexts. This generally does not result in sustained learning and development once the PE professionals withdraw. Addressing the lack of teacher- and context-driven PD, we propose an evidence-based, collaborative, and transformative PD approach that involves teachers themselves in designing, implementing, and evaluating ongoing learning opportunities suited to their context. To enable teachers to improve their practice in a sustainable manner, we adopted a participatory action learning and action research design, using qualitative data generation tools. With this article we report on the first cycle, namely that of action and reflection, where teachers generated and analysed qualitative data to identify their learning needs. Four themes emerged, namely (1) the need to interpret and adapt the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) (2); ability to teach PE in their specific low-resource context while; (3) generating support from colleagues and management, and (4) coping with systemic issues impacting on their teaching. We discuss the implications of these needs for the continuing PD of teachers.

Although physical education (PE) provides a school-based platform for the enhancement of learners' physical health, implementation challenges can have a detrimental effect on learners' motivation to participate in physical activities and their fitness levels. Within the framework of the Self-determination Theory (SDT), meeting learners' basic psychological needs of autonomy, competence and relatedness in the PE class, can promote their fitness levels by enhancing their intrinsic motivation to be physically active. The purpose with this study was to investigate the effect of an in-service PE teacher training programme including needs-support teaching strategies on the physical and motor fitness levels of the learners of the participating teachers. Using a pre- and post-test experimental design, the fitness of 1 control and 4 experimental groups were assessed using standardised tests before and after the intervention programme. The intervention included implementing the needs-support teaching strategies acquired by the teachers during the once-off, 5-day teacher training programme, for 4 months while receiving continued support from the instructors of the course during those 4 months. The results show that the programme had a positive effect on the fitness levels of the learners in most of the tested fitness components, warranting the recommendation of SDT-based in-service training of PE teachers to support learners' motivation towards physical activity and fitness.

This study was conducted to examine the effect of design thinking on the creative thinking of physical education and sports teacher candidates. The research group of the study, which was created by using the pretest-posttest single-group experimental design, consisted of 14 women and 15 men, who were studying at Ankara University, Faculty of Sport Sciences, Physical Education and Sports Teaching Program and taking the Community Service Practices lesson in the fall semester of the 2022-2023 academic year and it consisted of 29 students in total. As a data collection tool, the "How Much You Have Created Scale" developed by Whetton and Cameron (2002) and adapted into Turkish by Aksoy (2004) and the "Demographic Information Form" prepared by the researchers were used. In this study, the Stanford design thinking model was applied to physical education and sports teacher candidates for 9 weeks in the community service practices lesson. According to the results of the analysis, it was observed that there was a significant change in the pre-test and post-test scores of the physical education and sports teacher candidates from the creative thinking scale after the application. The findings reveal that the design thinking approach is effective in developing the creative thinking of physical education and sports teacher candidates.

This purpose of this qualitative study was to explore shared characteristics and local challenges of trauma-informed youth sport program design and implementation through the voices of ten program facilitators (e.g., director, trainer; 8 women, 2 men; average age of 36.2 years, SD = 6.03) across four U.S. regions. Within a postpositivist approach and through thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews (average length of 53 minutes), shared characteristics identified by facilitators included promoting a safe and supportive environment, cultivating healthy relationships among adults and peers, and intentional psychological and social skill-building (e.g., attentional cues). Facilitators also explained the importance of understanding the local context to engage youth and develop key strategies to mitigate challenges such as prioritizing the voices of youth involved in their programs, attending to staff needs and providing continual development and training, and collaboration among community partners to support their programmatic efforts. The study findings may be used to inform future research conceptualizing best practices for inclusive youth sport settings and provide added context for facilitators in the development, implementation, and sustainability of the trauma-informed approach.

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between physical education teacher candidates' epistemological beliefs and academic self-efficacy beliefs. The research group consisted of a total of 220 preservice physical education teachers (age = 22.32 ± 1.514), 99 female (45%) and 121 male (55%), studying at the Faculties of Sport Sciences of four different universities in the 2022-2023 academic year. A correlational survey model was adopted to examine the relationship between physical education teacher candidates' epistemological beliefs and academic self-efficacy levels. The personal information form and Epistemological Belief Scale that Schommer (1990) developed and Deryakulu and Büyüköztürk (2002) adapted and the Academic Self-Efficacy scale that Ekici (2012) developed consisting of three sub-dimensions and 33 questions were used as data collection tools. It was found that preservice physical education teachers had high levels of epistemological beliefs, and it was determined that the academic self-efficacy levels of the teachers were low.

The iterative process of writing a co-authored manuscript may take several months to complete. Draft-in-a-day is an alternative group-based approach to writing that draws on concepts from social cognitive and group dynamics theories to efficiently write the first draft of a manuscript, while providing rich opportunities for trainees to develop their writing skills. The purpose of this paper is to explore the usefulness and acceptability of draft-in-a-day by examining individual's experiences using the draft-in-a-day protocol. Twelve participants (four professors, eight trainees) who had used the draft-in-a-day protocol completed an online questionnaire about their experiences. Participant responses were analyzed using Braun and Clark's (2006) thematic analysis. There were four broad themes: group/social aspects, writing process, effectiveness/efficiency, and other. Overall, participants found a benefit to using the draft-in-a-day protocol for team-based writing. Participants were receptive to the draft-in-a-day method of writing, reported being very likely to use it in the future (M = 4.9, SD = 0.28; scale 1-5), and provided suggestions for improvement. This early-stage research provides a framework for efficient group-based writing in sport and exercise psychology.
