In physics, we construct idealized mathematical models in order to explain various phenomena which we observe or create in our laboratories. In this article, I recall how sophisticated mathematical models evolved from the concept of a number created thousands of years ago, and I discuss some challenges and open questions in quantum foundations and in the Standard Model. We liberated nuclear energy, landed on the Moon and built 'quantum computers'. Encouraged by these successes, many believe that when we reconcile general relativity with quantum theory we will have the correct theory of everything. Perhaps we should be much humbler. Our perceptions of reality are biased by our senses and by our brain, bending them to meet our priors and expectations. Our abstract mathematical models describe only in an approximate way different layers of physical reality. To describe the motion of a meteorite, we can use a concept of a material point, but the point-like approximation breaks completely when the meteorite hits the Earth. Similarly, thermodynamic, chemical, molecular, atomic, nuclear and elementary particle layers of physical reality are described using specific abstract mathematical models and approximations. Communication methods in fashion design have changed with the emergence of various devices and media in the digital environment, and combining fashion design with AI, IoT, and AR has increased in the wake of the 4th Industrial Revolution. This causes an expansion of fashion design, and interactive digital communication fashion design extends bodily experience from physical reality to virtual space. This study aimed to identify the experiential characteristics of physical reality, virtual reality, and interface for interactive digital communication and develop a measurement scale for each space. It used a Delphi method collecting opinions from industry, academic, and government experts through a questionnaire. The research findings offer a tool for measuring the characteristics of interactive digital communication fashion design experiences that allow a better understanding of the significance of the communication type in each space. Introduction. It is argued that today the expansion of mathematics into the field of physical reality is not being performed in line with the classical paradigm, but in line with the linguistic turn of non-classical philosophy. The scope of Platonism is extended by introducing the concept of a “Platonic computer” which is incorporated in metacomputics. The theoretical framework of metacomputics postulates that a Platonic computer exists in the realm of Forms and is made by, of, with, and from metaconsciousness. Metaconsciousness is defined as the “power to conceive, to perceive, and to be self-aware” and is the formless, contentless infinite potentiality. Metacomputics models how metaconsciousness generates the perceived actualities including abstract entities and physical and nonphysical realities. It is postulated that this is achieved via digital computation using the Platonic computer. The introduction of a Platonic computer into the realm of Forms thus bridges the “inverse explanatory gap” and therefore solves the “inverse hard problem of consciousness” in the philosophy of mind.

There remains a question about whether and to what extent perception–action coupled response in virtual reality are equal/unequal to those in the real world or physical reality. The purpose of this study was to identify the differences in the environmental effect of virtual presentation on the motor responses of a one-handed ball catching. Thirteen healthy participants were instructed to catch an approaching ball projected at three speeds in a real laboratory room and in a room-sized virtual reality system (CAVE) that simulated those real situations with two- or three-dimensional display settings. The results showed that the arm movement time, which denotes the duration of arm-raising motion (shoulder flexion), was significantly longer in the virtual reality than that in the physical reality at the fast ball speed condition. The shoulder flexion velocities, calculated as the average angular velocity of shoulder flexion over the arm movement time, were significantly lower in the virtual reality than in the physical reality at the medium and fast ball speed conditions. The electromyography onsets, derived from anterior deltoid, biceps brachii, and flexor carpi radialis muscles of the catching arm, appeared before and significantly closer to the initiation of arm raising in the two-dimensional virtual reality than both in the physical reality and in the three-dimensional virtual reality. The findings suggest that simulation of virtual reality may induce a modulation in the motor responses of the catching arm, which is different from natural motion that appeared in the real world. On the contrary, the effect of ball speed generally found in real setting was maintained in the current CAVE experiment.

Using an excerpt from Stanisław Lem’s Solaris, this article explores the idea that, in a literary text, a fictional world and the world of physical reality may interact to form such a reality that can paradoxically turn out to be more real than what we believe to be the actual reality. It is also shown that the fictional world realized in a literary text may bring the reader to certain conclusions about the world in which he or she lives. Thus, even if literature is in­capable of affecting reality, it can change the way the latter is perceived. A fictional world is not just a reality — it is a reality of a higher order.

This paper is intended to explore Radu Jude's camera dexterity in first part of Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn (2021), by using Siegfried Kracauer's idea of realism based on physical reality and with the help of Walter Benjamin's notion of flaneur which he developed out of Charles Baudelaire's poetry. Despite the large number of researches on Romanian New Wave moviemakers, few studies have been carried out to examine this young director's movies belonging to the so-called second wave. This study aims to take steps towards filling this gap in knowledge by conducting an analysis of his camera craftsmanship development in his last movie which despite the apparent cinematography resemblance with his contemporary directors, slightly differs in function. In this paper we attempt to analyze the physical and philosophical meaning of quantum contextuality. We will argue that there exists a general confusion within the foundational literature arising from the improper "scrambling" of two different meanings of quantum contextuality. While the first one, introduced by Bohr, is related to an epistemic interpretation of contextuality which stresses the incompatibility (or complementarity) of measurement situations described in classical terms; the second meaning of contextuality is related to a purely formal understanding of contextuality as exposed by the Kochen–Specker (KS) theorem which focuses instead on the constraints of the orthodox quantum formalism in order to interpret projection operators as preexistent or actual (definite valued) properties. We will show how these two notions have been scrambled together creating an "omelette of contextuality" which has been fully widespread through a popularized "epistemic explanation" of the KS theorem according to which: The measurement outcome of the observableAwhen measured together withBor together withCwill necessarily differ in case [ A , B ] = [ A , C ] = 0 , and [ B , C ] ≠ 0 . We will show why this statement is not only improperly scrambling epistemic and formal perspectives, but is also physically and philosophically meaningless. Both Richard Rorty and Siegfried Kracauer considered the question of self-redemption in an ideologically shelterless age; both thinkers realized that the spontaneous state of daily life is beguiling and that one needs to break out from it; and both sought to break the bond between Being and Thought. For Kracauer, redemption came from the strangeness of concrete physical reality presented by films. For Rorty, redemption stood for the strangeness of imaginative self-redescription achieved by reading books. Based on the analysis of Rorty's aggressive book reader and of Kracauer's submissive movie spectator, this article aims to answer the question: how can Kracauer's redemption of physical reality contribute to Rorty's self-redescription? Self-redescription paradoxically sustains the abstractness it fights against. The ironist's flippant attitude toward language leads to the nonchalant and traumatic attitude toward life. Kracauer's from-bottom-to-top approach to the redemption of physical reality can benefit Rorty's self-redescription in three concrete ways: as a possible description, as a possible method, and as a possible attitude to life. The theological core of Kracauer's redemption of physical reality enlightens Rorty's ironist through the desubjectivized stance: to encounter existence in its purity, free of personal subjectivity, and thereby to find a de-anthropocentric world-view. In this paper we intend to discuss the importance of providing a physical representation of quantum superpositions which goes beyond the mere reference to mathematical structures and measurement outcomes. This proposal goes in the opposite direction to the project present in orthodox contemporary philosophy of physics which attempts to “bridge the gap” between the quantum formalism and common sense “classical reality”—precluding, right from the start, the possibility of interpreting quantum superpositions through non-classical notions. We will argue that in order to restate the problem of interpretation of quantum mechanics in truly ontological terms we require a radical revision of the problems and definitions addressed within the orthodox literature. On the one hand, we will discuss the need of providing a formal redefinition of superpositions which captures explicitly their contextual character. On the other hand, we will attempt to replace the focus on the measurement problem, which concentrates on the justification of measurement outcomes from “weird” superposed states, and introduce the superposition problem which focuses instead on the conceptual representation of superpositions themselves. In this respect, after presenting three necessary conditions for objective physical representation, we will provide arguments which show why the classical (actualist) representation of physics faces severe difficulties to solve the superposition problem. Finally, we will also argue that, if we are willing to abandon the (metaphysical) presupposition according to which ‘Actuality = Reality’, then there is plenty of room to construct a conceptual representation for quantum superpositions. The idMirror project consists of a tablet computer, specially equipped with a small mirror and a newly developed android app. The Android application uses face recognition to detect the location of the user’s face in relation to the device and based on this renders a computer graphic at the location of his or her reflection. The goal of the idMirror project setting as a research tool was to make an exploratory study on cultural differences at exhibition venues. For this study, we have analyzed 150 participants’ face images aged between 18 and 75; among them, 50 (25 females and 25 males) participants’ face images collected in Europe, 50 (25 females and 25 males) participants’ face images collected in the USA, and 50 (25 females and 25 males) participants’ face images collected in Japan. We found global exhibitions a good research platform for random sampling of the subjects. For the study, we examined the first 50 (25 female and 25 male) participants at each exhibition and we found some significant differences. Through the explanatory study in the form of an art installation, we wanted to learn if the facial expression upon one’s own self-observation is a function of gender and place of exhibition setting origin.
