Microstrip silicon detectors are one of the key trackers in particle physics experiment like LHC at CERN. There is a continuous need to improve upon various parameters of detectors like breakdown voltage, leakage current, full depletion voltage, post radiation hardness, charge collection efficiency and low thermal budget. We have introduced new doping less silicon microstrip detector for the very first time and investigated the various parameter of the detector. We have studied and compared the results of doped and dopingless charge plasma silicon microstrip detector. Our study shows improvement in Preradiation breakdown voltage of 2200 V with leakage current of 5.2 pA/um in dopingless charge plasma microstrip detector as compared to 1500 V of breakdown voltage with leakage current of 6.5pA/um as in the case of doped silicon microstrip detector.

The channel state information (CSI) is essential for the base station (BS) to schedule user equipments (UEs) and efficiently manage the radio resources. Hence, the BS requests UEs to regularly feed back the CSI. However, frequent CSI reporting causes large signaling overhead. To reduce the feedback overhead, we propose two machine learning-based approaches to adjust the CSI feedback interval. We use a deep neural network and reinforcement learning (RL) to decide whether an UE feeds back the CSI. Simulation results show that the RL-based approach achieves the lowest mean squared error while reducing the number of CSI feedback transmissions.

This conceptual design report provides a detailed account of the European Spallation Source neutrino Super Beam (ESS$\nu$SB) feasibility study. This facility has been proposed after the measurements reported in 2012 of a relatively large value of the neutrino mixing angle $\theta_{13}$, which raised the possibility of observing potential CP violation in the leptonic sector with conventional neutrino beams. The measured value of $\theta_{13}$ also privileges the $2^{nd}$ oscillation maximum for the discovery of CP violation instead of the more typically studied $1^{st}$ maximum. The sensitivity at this $2^{nd}$ oscillation maximum is about three times higher than at the $1^{st}$ one, which implies a reduced influence of systematic errors. Working at the $2^{nd}$ oscillation maximum requires a very intense neutrino beam with an appropriate energy. The world's most intense pulsed spallation neutron source, the European Spallation Source (ESS), will have a proton linac operating at 5\,MW power, 2\,GeV kinetic energy and 14~Hz repetition rate (3~ms pulse duration, 4\% duty cycle) for neutron production. In this design study it is proposed to double the repetition rate and compress the beam pulses to the level of microseconds in order to provide an additional 5~MW proton beam for neutrino production. The physics performance has been evaluated for such a neutrino super beam, in conjunction with a megaton-scale underground water Cherenkov neutrino detector installed at a distance of 360--550\,km from ESS. The ESS proton linac upgrades, the accumulator ring required for proton-pulse compression, the target station design and optimisation, the near and far detector complexes, and the physics potential of the facility are all described in this report. The ESS linac will be operational by 2025, at which point the implementation of upgrades for the neutrino facility could begin., Comment: 216 pages

International audience; Online atlasing, i.e., incrementing an atlas with new images as they are acquired, is key when performing studies on very large, or still being gathered, databases. Regular approaches to atlasing however do not focus on this aspect and impose a complete reconstruction of the atlas when adding images. We propose instead a diffeomorphic online atlasing method that allows gradual updates to an atlas. In this iterative centroid approach, we integrate new subjects in the atlas in an iterative manner, gradually moving the centroid of the images towards its final position. This leads to a computationally cheap approach since it only necessitates one additional registration per new subject added. We validate our approach on several experiments with three main goals: 1-to evaluate atlas image quality of the obtained atlases with sharpness and overlap measures, 2-to assess the deviation in terms of transformations with respect to a conventional atlasing method and 3-to compare its computational time with regular approaches of the literature. We demonstrate that the transformations divergence with respect to a stateof-the-art atlas construction method is small and reaches a plateau, that the two construction methods have the same ability to map subject homologous regions onto a common space and produce images of equivalent quality. The computational time of our approach is also drastically reduced for regular updates. Finally, we also present a direct extension of our method to update spatio-temporal atlases, especially useful for developmental studies.

We report results of the experimental test of the High Temperature Superconductor based fast cycling prototype accelerator magnet capable to operate up to about 300 Tesla per second field ramping rate with some 0.5 T field in the magnet gap. The measured upper limit for the cryogenic cooling power required to support magnet conductor operation at high ramping rates indicates great potential for such types of magnets in rapid cycling synchrotrons for neutrino research or muon acceleration. The test magnet design, construction, and supporting cryogenic and power systems are briefly described. Target detection is an important problem in multipleinput multiple-output (MIMO) radar. Many existing target detection algorithms were proposed without taking into consideration the quantization error caused by analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). This paper addresses the problem of target detection for MIMO radar with one-bit ADCs and derives a Rao's test-based detector. The proposed method has several appealing features: 1) it is a closed-form detector; 2) it allows us to handle sign measurements straightforwardly; 3) there are closed-form approximations of the detector's distributions, which allow us to theoretically evaluate its performance. Moreover, the closed-form distributions allow us to study the performance degradation due to the one-bit ADCs, yielding an approximate 2 dB loss in the low-signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) regime compared to 34-bit ADCs. Simulation results are included to showcase the advantage of the proposed detector and validate the accuracy of the theoretical results. The High-Luminosity project (HL-LHC) of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), requires low β* quadrupole magnets in Nb$_3$Sn technology that will be installed on each side of the ATLAS and CMS experiments. After a successful shortmodel magnet manufacture and test campaign, the project has advanced with the production, assembly, and test of full-size 7.15- m-long magnets. In the last two years, two CERN-built prototypes (MQXFBP1 and MQXFBP2) have been tested and magnetically measured at the CERN SM18 test facility. These are the longest accelerator magnets based on Nb$_3$Sn technology built and tested to date. In this paper, we present the test and analysis results of these two magnets, with emphasis on quenches and training, voltage-current measurements and the quench localization with voltage taps and a new quench antenna.

Motivated by the recent muon anomalous magnetic moment (g-2) measurement at FERMILAB and non-zero neutrino masses, we propose a model based on the $SU(3)_C \times SU(3)_L \times U(1)_X$ (3-3-1) gauge symmetry. The most popular 3-3-1 models in the literature require the presence of a scalar sextet to address neutrino masses. In our work, we show that we can successfully implement an one-loop linear seesaw mechanism with right-handed neutrinos, and vector-like fermions to nicely explain the active neutrino masses, and additionally reproduce the recent Muon g-2 result, in agreement with existing bounds., Version published in Physics Letters B

This article focused on the emission probability of the grey particles with black particles emitted in the interaction of 84Kr (as a projectile) having incident kinetic energy 1 GeV per nucleon with nuclear emulsion detector (as target detector). This study show that the emission probability of grey particles is depending on the number of emitted black particles.

The main focus of this article is to study the characteristics of charged pions and their correlation with shower particles emitted in the interaction of 84Kr + emulsion at 1 A GeV. Author have also studied the dependence of the average multiplicity of charged pions and shower particles with projectile mass. In this study author observed that the average multiplicity of charged pions and shower particles showing the linear dependency on the projectile mass.

In this manuscript we have focused on the shower particle characteristics produced at relativistics energy. We have also investigated the inequality of the shower particles emitted out of the interactivity of the projectiles with discrete target nuclei of the emulsion detector. In this investigation we have remarked that as we move to heavier target nuclei the release probability of shower particles is increases.

In this article, a coupled Two-relaxation-time Lattice Boltzmann-Volume penalization (TRT-LBM-VP) method is presented to simulate flows past obstacles. Two relaxation times are used in the collision operator, of which one is related to the fluid viscosity and the other one is related to the numerical stability and accuracy. The volume penalization method is introduced into the TRT-LBM by an external forcing term. In the procedure of the TRT-LBM-VP, the processes of interpolating velocities on the boundaries points and distributing the force density to the Eulerian points are unneeded. Performing the TRT-LBM-VP on a certain point, only the variables of this point are needed. As a consequence, the TRT-LBM-VP can be conducted parallelly. From the comparison between the result of the cylindrical Couette flow solved by the TRT-LBM-VP and that solved by the Single-relaxation-time LBM-VP (SRT-LBM-VP), the accuracy of the TRT-LBM-VP is higher than that of the SRT-LBM-VP. Flows past a single circular cylinder, a pair of cylinders in tandem and side-by-side arrangements, two counter-rotating cylinders and a NACA-0012 airfoil are chosen as numerical experiments to verify the present method further. Good agreements between the present results and those in the previous literatures are achieved.

Using a fully automated cryogenic wafer prober, we measured superconductor fabrication process control monitors and simple integrated circuits on 200 mm wafers at 4.4 K, including SQIF-based magnetic field sensors, SQUID-based circuits for measuring inductors, Nb/Al-AlOx/Nb Josephson junctions, test structures for measuring critical current of superconducting wires and vias, resistors, etc., to demonstrate the feasibility of using the system for characterizing niobium superconducting devices and integrated circuits on a wafer scale. Data on the wafer-scale distributions of the residual magnetic field, junction tunnel resistance, energy gap, inductance of multiple Nb layers, critical currents of interlayer vias are presented. Comparison with existing models is made. The wafers were fabricated in the SFQ5ee process, the fully planarized process with eight niobium layers and a layer of kinetic inductors, developed for superconductor electronics at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. The determination of the absolute mass scale of neutrinos is one of the most important challenges in Particle Physics. The shape of the endpoint region of $\beta$-decay and electron capture (EC) spectra depends on the phase space factor, which, in turn, is function of the neutrino mass eigenstates. High energy resolution and high statistics measurements of $\beta$- and EC spectra are therefore considered a model-independent way for the determination of the neutrino mass scale. Since almost four decades, low temperature microcalorimeters are used for the measurement of low energy $\beta$- and EC spectra. The first efforts were focused on the development of large arrays for the measurement of the $^{187}$Re $\beta$-spectrum. In the last ten years, the attention moved to EC of $^{163}$Ho. This choice was mainly motivated by the very good performance which could be achieved with low temperature microcalorimeters enclosing $^{163}$Ho with respect to microcalorimeters with absorber containing $^{187}$Re. The development of low temperature microcalorimeters for the measurement of the finite neutrino mass is discussed and, in particular, the reasons for moving from $^{187}$Re to $^{163}$Ho. The possibility to reach sub-eV sensitivity on the effective electron neutrino mass with $^{163}$Ho, thanks to the multiplexing of large microcalorimeter arrays is demonstrated. The X-IFU is the cryogenic spectrometer onboard the future ATHENA X-ray observatory. It is based on a large array of TES microcalorimeters, which works in combination with a Cryogenic AntiCoincidence detector (CryoAC). This is necessary to reduce the particle background level thus enabling part of the mission science goals. Here we present the first joint test of X-IFU TES array and CryoAC Demonstration Models, performed in a FDM setup. The millimeter wave detector has been widely applied in short-range detection systems. However, it can be easily disturbed by the ultra-wideband electromagnetic pulse (UWB EMP). In this paper, we proposed a simplified model to investigate the coupling laws of UWB EMP to the millimeter wave detector. With the help of finite integration technology (FIT), the coupling process can be visualized, and the most sensitive pose and the coupling path are analyzed. The irradiation tests are carried out to verify the simulation results. The results show that the shielding effectiveness (SE) of the detector in the vertical state is the worst, and the UWB EMP enters the detector mainly through the circular opening. Under the irradiation of UWB EMP, the detector shows three phenomena: interruptions, constant false alarms, and damage. The interruptions can be recovered by power reset, while the constant false alarms and damage are irreversible effects. The results can be employed to reinforce the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of the millimeter wave detector. With the increasing use of short-range detection systems, the EMC of existing products must be improved.

We study defining inequalities of string cones via a potential function on a reduced double Bruhat cell. We give a necessary criterion for the potential function to provide a minimal set of inequalities via tropicalization and conjecture an equivalence.

In this article, we propose a data-driven iterative learning control (ILC) framework for unknown nonlinear nonaffine repetitive discrete-time single-input-single-output systems by applying the dynamic linearization (DL) technique. The ILC law is constructed based on the equivalent DL expression of an unknown ideal learning controller in the iteration and time domains. The learning control gain vector is adaptively updated by using a Newton-type optimization method. The monotonic convergence on the tracking errors of the controlled plant is theoretically guaranteed with respect to the 2-norm under some conditions. In the proposed ILC framework, existing proportional, integral, and derivative type ILC, and high-order ILC can be considered as special cases. The proposed ILC framework is a pure data-driven ILC, that is, the ILC law is independent of the physical dynamics of the controlled plant, and the learning control gain updating algorithm is formulated using only the measured input-output data of the nonlinear system. The proposed ILC framework is effectively verified by two illustrative examples on a complicated unknown nonlinear system and on a linear time-varying system.

We present details of the design, simulation, and initial test results of prototype detectors for the fourth-generation receiver of the South Pole Telescope (SPT). Optimized for the detection of key secondary anisotropies of the cosmic microwave background (CMB), SPT-3G+ will measure the temperature and polarization of the mm/sub-mm sky at 220, 285, and 345 GHz, beyond the peak of the CMB blackbody spectrum. The SPT-3G+ focal plane will be populated with microwave kinetic inductance detectors (MKIDs), allowing for significantly increased detector density with reduced cryogenic complexity. We present simulation-backed designs for single-color dual-polarization MKID pixels at each SPT-3G+ observation frequency. We further describe design choices made to promote resonator quality and uniformity, enabling us to maximize the available readout bandwidth. In this paper, we propose optimum and near-optimum adaptive coherent detectors of radar targets in compound-Gaussian clutter with generalized inverse Gaussian texture (CG-GIG clutter). The target amplitude and the speckle covariance matrix are modeled as unknown quantities to be estimated. On the basis of the two-step generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) and the estimate of the speckle covariance matrix, the optimum coherent detector and its adaptive version are designed in this paper. It is demonstrated that the proposed optimum coherent detector contains three common detectors, which are the optimum K detector (OKD), the generalized likelihood ratio test linear-threshold detector (GLRT-LTD), and the generalized likelihood ratio test detector for compound-Gaussian clutter with inverse Gaussian texture (GLRT-IG). Due to the existence of the modified Bessel function depending on data, the optimum coherent detector is computationally unrealizable. Therefore, a near-optimum coherent detector with a new structure also named match filter (-MF) detector and its adaptive version (-AMF) are proposed, which decreases the computational cost. The proposed near-optimum coherent detector contains two common detectors, the GLRT-LTD and the -MF detector in K-distributed clutter, and has a comparable detection performance of the near-optimum detector in CG-IG clutter which was proposed before. Theoretical analysis and numerical experiments illustrate that the proposed two detectors for CG-GIG clutter have the constant false alarm ratio (CFAR) property relative to the estimate of the speckle covariance matrix and Doppler steering vector. Moreover, the detection performance of the two coherent detectors are evaluated by the simulated and real data.

OBJECTIVE: Diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS) is an optical technique that allows for the non-invasive measurement of blood flow. Recent work has shown that utilizing longer wavelengths beyond the traditional NIR range provides a significant improvement to signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). However, current detectors both sensitive to longer wavelengths and suitable for clinical applications (InGaAs/InP SPADs) suffer from suboptimal afterpulsing and dark noise characteristics. To overcome these barriers, we introduce a cross correlation method to more accurately recover blood flow information using InGaAs/InP SPADs. METHODS: Two InGaAs/InP SPAD detectors were used for during in vitro and in vivo DCS measurements. Cross correlation of the photon streams from each detector was performed to calculate the correlation function. Detector operating parameters were varied to determine parameters which maximized measurement SNR. State-space modeling was performed to determine the detector characteristics at each operating point. RESULTS: Evaluation of detector characteristics was performed across the range of operating conditions. Modeling the effects of the detector noise on the correlation function provided a method to correct the distortion of the correlation curve, yielding accurate recovery of flow information as confirmed by a reference detector. CONCLUSION: Through a combination of cross-correlation of the signals from two detectors, model-based characterization of detector response, and optimization of detector operating parameters, the method allows for the accurate estimation of the true blood flow index. Significance: This work presents a method by which DCS can be performed at longer NIR wavelengths with existing detector technology, taking advantage of the increased SNR.

This article focuses on the angular dependency of the light sensitivity of a commercially available CMOS camera with a global shutter (storage node (SG) in the charge domain) and shared pixel architecture. The angular dependency is characterized as a function of both the wavelength and the angle of incidence of the incoming light. The measurement results are linked to the layout of the pixels as a means to explain the obtained characterization data.

We show results from the Coherent CAPTAIN Mills (CCM) 2019 engineering run which begin to constrain regions of parameter space for axion-like particles (ALPs) produced in electromagnetic particle showers in an 800 MeV proton beam dump, and further investigate the sensitivity of ongoing data-taking campaigns for the CCM200 upgraded detector. Based on beam-on background estimates from the engineering run, we make realistic extrapolations for background reduction based on expected shielding improvements, reduced beam width, and analysis-based techniques for background rejection. We obtain reach projections for two classes of signatures; ALPs coupled primarily to photons can be produced in the tungsten target via the Primakoff process, and then produce a gamma-ray signal in the Liquid Argon (LAr) CCM detector either via inverse Primakoff scattering or decay to a photon pair. ALPs with significant electron couplings have several additional production mechanisms (Compton scattering, $e^+e^-$ annihilation, ALP-bremsstrahlung) and detection modes (inverse Compton scattering, external $e^+e^-$ pair conversion, and decay to $e^+e^-$). In some regions, the constraint is marginally better than both astrophysical and terrestrial constraints. With the beginning of a three year run, CCM will be more sensitive to this parameter space by up to an order of magnitude for both ALP-photon and ALP-electron couplings. The CCM experiment will also have sensitivity to well-motivated parameter space of QCD axion models. It is only a recent realization that accelerator-based large volume liquid argon detectors designed for low energy coherent neutrino and dark matter scattering searches are also ideal for probing ALPs in the unexplored $\sim$MeV mass scale., Accepted for publication in Physical Review D, in production

We analyze the sensitivity of the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) to a sterile neutrino, combining information from both near and far detectors. We quantify often-neglected effects which may impact the event rate estimation in a 3+1 oscillation scenario. In particular, we find that taking into account the information on the neutrino production point, in contrast to assuming a pointlike neutrino source, affects DUNE's sterile exclusion reach. Visible differences remain after the inclusion of energy bin-to-bin uncorrelated systematics. Instead, implementing exact oscillation formulae for near detector events, including a two slab density profile, does not result in any visible change in the sensitivity., Comment: 28 pages, 6 figures, 1 table; one reference and comments added; matches version published in PRD

A new beam dump experiment that utilizes the beam of future high energy electron-positron colliders could be an excellent avenue to search for dark sector particles due to its unprecedented high energy and intensity. We consider heavy neutral leptons (HNLs) as a specific example to demonstrate the sensitivity of searches for dark sector particles at future electron-positron collider beam dump experiments. This includes the study of the reach at the International Linear Collider (ILC), the Cool Copper Collider ($\rm C^3$), and the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC). We comprehensively examine the HNL production and detector acceptance at these electron beam dump experiments. We show that these experiments will probe a large range of HNL parameter space, not yet probed by past experiments. These experiments will be complementary to other proposed experiments such as proton beam dump experiments, neutrino experiments, and LHC auxiliary detectors. Our study also motivates a more detailed analysis of heavy meson productions in high-energy electron-nucleon collisions in thick targets., v2: References added. Conclusions unchanged

In this work, the standard model (SM) is extended with two right-handed (RH) neutrinos and two singlet neutral fermions to yield active neutrino masses via (2,2) inverse see-saw mechanism. We first validate the multi-dimensional model parameter space with neutrino oscillation data, obeying the experimental bounds coming from the lepton flavor violating (LFV) decays: $\mu \to e \gamma,~ \tau \to e \gamma, ~ \tau \to \mu \gamma$. Besides we also search for the portion of the parameter space which yield the observed baryon asymmetry of the universe via resonant leptogenesis. Further, we pick up a few benchmark points from the aforementioned parameter space with TeV scale heavy neutrinos and perform an exhaustive collider analysis of the final states: $2l + \mET$ in multi-TeV muon collider., Comment: 29 pages, 5 tables, 6 captioned figures

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN will undergo major upgrades to increase the instantaneous luminosity up to 5-7.5×1034 cm-2s-1. This High Luminosity upgrade of the LHC (HL-LHC) will deliver a total of 3000-4000 fb-1 of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13-14 TeV. To cope with these challenging environmental conditions, the strip tracker of the CMS experiment will be upgraded using modules with two closely-spaced silicon sensors to provide information to include tracking in the Level-1 trigger selection. This paper describes the performance, in a test beam experiment, of the first prototype module based on the final version of the CMS Binary Chip front-end ASIC before and after the module was irradiated with neutrons. Results demonstrate that the prototype module satisfies the requirements, providing efficient tracking information, after being irradiated with a total fluence comparable to the one expected through the lifetime of the experiment. This paper presents the prospects of measuring in three Z decay channels using the baseline detector with GeV at the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC). Simulated Monte Carlo events were generated and scaled to an integrated luminosity of 5.6 ab–1 to mimic the data. Extrapolated results to 20 ab–1 are also reported. The expected statistical precision of these measurements after combining three channels of Z boson decay was 7.7%. With some preliminary estimation on the systematical uncertainties, the total precision is 7.9%. The performance of the CEPC electro-magnetic calorimeter (ECAL) was studied by smearing the photon energy resolution in simulated events in the channel. In the present ECAL design, the stochastic term in resolution plays the dominant role in the precision of Higgs measurements in the channel. The impact of the resolution on the measured precision of as well as the optimization of the ECAL constant and stochastic terms were studied for further detector design.

The expected increase in particle flux in the high-luminosity phase of the LHC (HL-LHC), with an instantaneous luminosity that can reach L ≈ 7.5 × 10 34 cm −2 s −1, will have a significant impact on the pile-up with potentially 200 interactions per bunch crossing. The performances of electrons and photons, as well as those of jets and missing transverse energy, will be strongly degraded in the end-cap and at the forward region of the detector, where the granularity of the electromagnetic calorimeter is coarser and the momentum resolution of the Inner Tracker(ITK) is poorer. In order to mitigate the pile-up contamination coming from this high luminosity, a High Granularity Timing Detector (HGTD) is proposed in front of the LAr end-cap calorimeters, covering the pseudo-rapidity region between 2.4 and 4.0. The high granularity and the high-precision timing information will allow to improve the pile-up reduction. It will also improve the forward objects reconstruction, and complement the performance of the updated ITK in the forward region of ATLAS detector. This leads to an amelioration in the jet and lepton reconstruction performances. The ability of the HGTD detector to improve the pile-up jet rejection and the lepton isolation efficiency within the forward region in addition to the physics and performance results is going to be presented.

The ATLAS experiment is being upgraded to take advantage of the improved running conditions foreseen for the Run 3 and High Luminosity LHC operation phase. Part of this upgrade consists in removing the original Small Wheels located in the Muon Spectrometer, and replacing them with two New Small Wheels (NSWs). The exploited technologies for the upgrade are Small-Strips Thin Gap Chambers (sTGC) and MicroMegas (MM). The readout boards of the MicroMegas detectors, before being installed in the final detector, underwent a detailed QA/QC at CERN, during which many construction parameters were measured and stored in databases. Then, the boards have been mounted in Double Wedges and moved to BB5 integration site at CERN, where their final performance and operation have been validated with cosmic rays. Studies of the correlation between several construction parameters of the MM readout boards, as minimum resistance, surface resistivity, pillar height, and operational parameters, as maximum reachable HV per sector, are presented.

The discovery potential of both singlet and doublet vector-like leptons (VLLs) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) as well as at the not-so-far future muon and electron machines is explored. The focus is on a single production channel for LHC direct searches while double production signatures are proposed for the leptonic colliders. A Deep Learning algorithm to determine the discovery (or exclusion) statistical significance at the LHC is employed. While doublet VLLs can be probed up to masses of 1 TeV, their singlet counterparts have very low cross sections and can hardly be tested beyond a few hundreds of GeV at the LHC. This motivates a physics-case analysis in the context of leptonic colliders where one obtains larger cross sections in VLL double production channels, allowing to probe higher mass regimes otherwise inaccessible even to the LHC high-luminosity upgrade., Comment: 26 pages, 11 figures, 10 tables, Published version

This paper is devoted to the Standard Model cross-sections for the production of single top, top quark in pairs, triple-top quarks, and four top-quarks at three different centre of mass-energies e.g., $\sqrt{s}=$7, 10 and 14 TeV at existing particle colliders as well as at Future Hadron Colliders. A fully kinemtaic analysis with the optimized pre-selection cuts along with invariant mass reconstruction of top quarks is performed for triple-top production processes pp$\rightarrow $tttW, tttd,tttb in the presence of Standard Model background. The three signal processes are forced to decay in fully hadronic mode and their significance is computed in High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL$-$LHC) at $\sqrt{s}=$14 TeV and also in High-Energy LHC (HE$-$LHC) at $\sqrt{s}=$27 TeV. It is found that the observability at HL$-$LHC will would not be so easy task and chances are much lower but there are higher chances to observe the signal events at HE$-$LHC. The signal to background ratio and signal significance of all signal and background processes are estimated for both the HL$-$LHC and the HE$-$LHC at $\sqrt{s}$ =14 TeV and $\sqrt{s}$ =27 TeV respectively., Comment: 18 pages, 15 figures

The TOTEM experiment at the LHC at CERN is optimized to measure elastic and diffractive scattering at the LHC and measures the total proton-proton cross-section with the luminosity-independent method. The TOTEM experiment uses the special technique of movable beam pipe insertions -- called Roman Pots -- to detect very forward protons. The reconstruction of the forward proton kinematics requires the precise understanding of the LHC beam optics. A new method of LHC optics determination is reported, which exploits kinematical distributions of elastically scattered proton-proton data measured by the Roman Pots of the TOTEM experiment. The method has been successfully applied to data samples recorded since 2010. The interpretation of the proton-proton elastic differential cross-section is a challenging task. The geometrical model of proton-proton elastic scattering of Bialas and Bzdak is fitted to ISR data and to data measured by the TOTEM experiment at LHC energy of $\sqrt{s}=7$~TeV. The Bialas-Bzdak model is generalized and improved in order to give a satisfactory and unified description of the ISR and LHC data. The improved model is extrapolated to future LHC energies and beyond.

The CONUS experiment is searching for coherent elastic neutrino nucleus scattering of reactor anti-neutrinos with four low energy threshold point-contact high-purity germanium spectrometers. An excellent background suppression within the region of interest below 1keV (ionization energy) is absolutely necessary to enable a signal detection. The collected data also make it possible to set limits on various models regarding beyond the standard model physics. These analyses benefit as well from the low background level of ~10d$^{-1}$kg$^{-1}$below 1keV and at higher energies. The low background level is achieved by employing a compact shell-like shield, that was adapted to the most relevant background sources at the shallow depth location of the experiment: environmental gamma-radiation and muon-induced secondaries. Overall, the compact CONUS shield including the active anti-coincidence muon-veto reduces the background by more than four orders of magnitude. The remaining background is described with validated Monte Carlo simulations which include the detector response. It is the first time that a full background decomposition in germanium operated at reactor-site has been achieved. Next to remaining muon-induced background, $^{210}$Pb within the shield and cryostat end caps, cosmogenic activation and air-borne radon are the most relevant background sources. The reactor-correlated background is negligible within the shield. The validated background model together with the parameterization of the noise are used as input to the likelihood analyses of the various physics cases., 26 pages, 20 figures

In this letter, an incident field optimization (IO) method integrated with contrast source inversion (CSI) method and multiplicative regularized CSI (MR-CSI) method is proposed to deal with the electromagnetic inverse problems. For the conventional iterative inversion methods, the incident field is a prior knowledge and is usually obtained by the calibration process. Through the synthetic data experiments, it can be found that a small distortion of the incident field has little impact on the inversion results, but a high distortion will lead to fault inversion results or no convergence. In this letter, the incident field optimal factor, being updated during the iterative process, is introduced into the CSI and MR-CSI method, named as IO-CSI and MR–IO–CSI. The new methods have good inversion performance even with high incident field distortion. The proposed methods are applied to the Fresnel experiment data directly without the calibration procedure. Both the single-frequency and multifrequency inversion experiments demonstrate that the IO-CSI and MR–IO–CSI method can achieve good inversion results, indicating the method’s practical applicability.

The condition of the drilling of a roof bolter for mine support system is complex, and the existing analytical approaches for the vibration of the drilling for oil wells cannot be fully applicable to it. In order to reveal the vibration mechanism of bolt drilling, some models for longitudinal, bending, and torsional coupled vibration were established based on the energy method and finite element method. A global matrix was assembled in the order of units. Taking the drilling condition as the boundary conditions, a reduced-order model was constructed. The simulations for drilling mudstone show that the order of mode shape is positively correlated with the corresponding natural frequency, and the low-order mode shape plays a decisive role in the vibration characteristics of a drill string. The order of causing drill string displacement from large to small is as follows: longitudinal vibration, torsional vibration, and bending vibration. Compared with the bit, the displacements of longitudinal and torsional vibration of the tail of the drill string are decreased by 93.2% and 84.7%, respectively. The perturbed force and reaction torque are the main reasons for inducing the coupled vibration of it. This research provides a theoretical basis for analysing the vibration characteristics of the drilling of roof bolters for mine support systems and developing their absorbers.

Planar ortho-mode transducers (OMTs) are a commonly used method of coupling optical signals between waveguides and on-chip circuitry and detectors. While the ideal OMT-waveguide coupling requires minimal disturbance to the waveguide, when used for mm-wave applications the waveguide is typically constructed from two sections to allow the OMT probes to be inserted into the waveguide. This break in the waveguide is a source of signal leakage and can lead to loss of performance and increased experimental systematic errors. Here we report on the development of new OMT-to-waveguide coupling structures with the goal of reducing leakage at the detector wafer interface. The pixel to pixel optical leakage due to the gap between the coupling waveguide and the backshort is reduced by means of a protrusion that passes through the OMT membrane and electrically connects the two waveguide sections on either side of the wafer. High frequency electromagnetic simulations indicate that these protrusions are an effective method to reduce optical leakage in the gap by ~80% percent, with a ~60% filling factor, relative to an standard OMT coupling architecture. Prototype devices have been designed to characterize the performance of the new design using a relative measurement with varying filling factors. Recently there has been a significant increase in demand for wireless sensor networks, as their field of application is rapidly expanding, driven mostly by the growing importance and prevalence of the Internet of Things concept. To enable practical application of wireless sensor networks, sensor nodes must be inexpensive, small, light-weight, intelligent and autonomous. This paper presents a review of low-power always-on wake-up detectors used to reduce a sensor node’s power consumption and enable continuous detection of sparse events. We describe the wake-up concept, discuss its advantages and present the wake-up detector’s power consumption, detection accuracy and false positive rate as parameters of interest. We present a state-of-the-art analysis of wake-up detectors, grouping them based on their power consumption into zero-power and near-zero-power detectors and active detectors, which we further separate based on their implementation into digital detectors and mixed-signal and analog detectors. This analysis shows state-of-the-art wake-up detectors operate with detection accuracy over 90% and a wide range of power consumptions, spanning from a few nW to few tens of μW, because of their diverse applications and sensor modalities. Additionally, it shows that active mixed-signal wake-up detectors are currently the most utilized implementation, with emphasis on acoustic transducer modality. It also shows potential trends for future detector design utilizing more MEMS and NEMS to further lower detector power consumption. We also show techniques and ideas not yet integrated in the wake-up concept, to potentially improve the wake-up detector concept and present the wake-up detectors’ common applications and their specifics.

The effect of contact pressure on the performance of electrolyte supported planar solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are experimentally investigated in this study by varying the pressure applied on the push rod. For this purpose, cells with 1 cm2, 9 cm2, 16 cm2, 81 cm2 and 150 cm2 active areas are manufactured and tested under different external compression pressures. Maximum power densities of 0.486 W/cm2, 0.308 W/cm2 and 0.231 W/cm2 are obtained from the cells with an active area of 1 cm2, 9 cm2 and 16 cm2, respectively, under the same contact pressure. When the impedance results are considered, it is seen that under the same compression pressure, the cell resistance increases nonlinearly with the cell size. However, when the pressure is adjusted according to the active area, a similar power density of approximately 0.4 W/cm2 is obtained from these three cells. Moreover, very similar performances are measured from all cells when a portion of cells with 1 cm2 active is cut and tested under the same contact pressure of 0.2 MPa. The overall results indicate that the external load should be adjusted according to the cell size, but there is no linear relationship between the active area and the applied external pressure.

Ultrahigh-frequency electro-technical installations are capable of performing thermal microwave modification of dielectric and non-thermal microwave modification of polymer materials and products, as a result of which new properties and parameters appear in the object processed in the working chamber of such an installation. When designing microwave electrical installations, it is necessary to consider the relationship between the dielectric parameters of the processed object and the parameters of the microwave electromagnetic field of the working chamber of the installation. The paper considers the influence of the parameters of the processed dielectrics on the synthesis of working chambers of microwave electrical installations and mathematical modelling of heat treatment in a microwave electromagnetic field, the structure and parameters of the installation on its economic efficiency. Consideration of the materials science and economic aspects of microwave electrical technology allows to accelerate and reduce the cost of design in microwave electrical technology.

Electrostatic traps are a class of ion traps that rely on electric fields to confine charged particles in a region of space. It uses an electric field to trap the incoming ions from an ion source, confine them for a certain period of time, and then release them either as a continuous or pulsed ion beam. Ions once released from the trap are made to fly through a Time of Flight (ToF) tube for segregation based on their energies and mass. The time taken to travel the length of the ToF tube is equated to the mass of the ion, which can further be used to calculate the energy and mass of the ions. SIMION software simulates the trajectories of charged particles through electric and magnetic fields of different geometries. In this proposed paper, we will be presenting simulations of an (a) electrostatic ion trap and (b) Time of Flight tube using SIMION software. Experimental data of confinement time of ions in the trap and the time of flight of the ions in a 1m and 2m long ToF tube are simulated and tabled. The results from the simulations reported in this paper can be used as a template to design and develop custom electrostatic traps in conjunction with ToF tubes for specific instruments like spectrometers, medical devices, etc.

Scintillation detectors are commonly used for detecting radiation in various situations. NaI:Tl, CsI:Tl, BaF2 and CaF2:Eu are a few compounds that act as scintillation crystals for these detectors. The efficiency of a scintillation detector is one of the most important factors in improving the detector's performance. The present work shows that the efficiency of a scintillation detector can be increased by increasing the valence-band electron density as a result of changing the crystal structure of the scintillating material. This will enhance the image quality of all imaging techniques based upon scintillation detectors. The results reveal that by changing the structure of the crystal from simple cubic to body-centered cubic or face-centered cubic the efficiency of the detector increases. The packing of more atoms into the crystal increases the number of atoms per unit cell and the density of the crystal. It is also observed that the increase in the number of atoms per unit cell and the density of the crystal will equally increase the efficiency of the detector. The additional atoms from changing the crystal structure contribute more valence-band electrons, which allows for a higher chance of interaction between the incoming radiation and the valence-band electrons to absorb more radiation energy.

The objective of this review paper is to introduce Cryogenic temperature effect on different properties of materials. Results showed that cryogenic operation improves properties like hardness, fatigue strength, tensile strength, toughness and resistance to wear in comparison to conventional operations. The improvement is a result of microstructural changes at cryogenic temperature which helps in conversion of austenite to martensite and carbide nucleation. The results also showed that doing tempering before or after cryogenic operation has significant influence on material properties which helps to achieve better carbide distribution. Different heat treatment sequences which involve tempering before or after Deep Cryogenic Treatment (DCT), provides varied results. Soaking time at cryogenic temperature also has an important role in refinement of microstructure and affect material properties.

The neutrino dynamics in hot and dense magnetized matter, which corresponds with protoneutron star envelopes in the core collapse supernova explosions, is considered. The kinetic equation for a neutrino phase space distribution function is obtained, taking into account inelastic scattering by nuclear particles. The transfer component in a momentum space using transport properties is studied. The energy transfer coefficient is shown to change from positive to negative values when the neutrino energy exceeds four times the matter temperature. In the vicinity of a neutrino sphere, such effects are illustrated to lead to the energy strengthening in the neutrino spectra. As this paper demonstrates, such a property is favorable for the possibility of observing supernova neutrino fluxes using Large Volume Neutrino Telescopes.

ND-GAr is one of three detector systems in the design of the DUNE Near Detector complex, which will be located on the Fermilab campus, sixty meters underground and 570 m from the source of an intense neutrino beam. ND-GAr will consist of a cylindrical 10-bar gaseous Argon Time Projection Chamber (TPC) and a surrounding sampling electromagnetic calorimeter embedded within a superconducting solenoid, the cryostat and yoke for which together serve as the pressure vessel. While various options for the specific configuration of ND-GAr are being explored, essential design work for the detector has moved forward in recent months. This document describes basic mechanical, electrostatic, and gas flow design features of the ND-GAr TPC and presents results of electrostatic simulations of the interior of the pressure vessel for both single and dual-anode arrangements. Simulations are implemented with the Elmer finite-element software suite and related programs.

The aim of this work is to study the radiation shielding properties of cement samples with waste glass incortated into its composition. The mass attenuation coefficient (MAC) of the samples were experimentally determined to evaluate their radiation shielding ability. The experimental coefficient was evaluated using NaI detector for gamma energies between 59.53 keV and 1408.01 keV using different radioactive point sources Am-241, Eu-152, Co-60, and Cs-137, and the gamma transmission parameters half-value layer, mean free path, and transmission factor were calculated. The theoretical coefficient of the composites was determined using Geant4 and XCOM software. The results were also compared against Geant4 and XCOM simulations by calculating the relative deviation between the values to determine the accuracy of the results. In addition the mechanical properties (including Compressive and porosity) as well as the thermogravimetric analysis were tested for the present samples. Overall, it was concluded that the cement sample with 50% waste glass has the greatest shielding potential for radiation shielding applications and is a useful way to reuse waste glass.

To boost the performance of the Large Hadron Collider and increase the potential of discoveries after 2027, the High Luminosity LHC project has been announced, with the aim of increasing the luminosity by a factor of 10 above the design value of the LHC. This will lead to an augmentation of the pile-up interactions and will negatively affect the reconstruction of objects in the ATLAS detector, as well as its triggering performance. In particular at the forward region where the inner detector has a lower momentum resolution and the electromagnetic calorimeter has a coarser granularity. Therefore a high granularity timing detector has been proposed to mitigate the pile-up effect; complementing the inner tracker and providing the luminosity measurement, it is scheduled to be located in front of the LAr end-cap calorimeter. The HGTD will cover the pseudo-rapidity region between 2.4 and 4.0, with two layers of double-sided silicon sensors that will provide a time resolution of 30 ps per track. Each readout cell has a cross-section of 1.3 mm x 1.3 mm ensuring a high granular detector with 3.7 million channels. To achieve the required high signal-to-noise ratio and provide sufficient gain, Low Gain Avalanche Detector technology was chosen. The general specifications and requirements of LGAD will be outlined, as well as the technical design and status of the project. The ongoing R&D effort to study the sensors, readout ASIC, and other components, supported by laboratory and test beam results will also be presented, in addition to some physics and performance results.

A low-profile single-layer end-fire circularly-polarized (CP) antipodal linearly tapered slot antenna (ALTSA) is proposed and investigated through simulations and experiments. This antenna is a composite structure consisting of a novel width-tapered slotted substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) and an ALTSA fed by the SIW. The former also serves as a radiator to produce vertically polarized radiation, which is crucial to achieve a fully planar end-fire CP antenna when a thin substrate is deployed. Compared to the previous ALTSA fed by the SIW, this proposed antenna utilizes slots on the spare broad walls of the SIW to form an extra slotted width-tapered SIW radiator, which presents an extension of the conventional width-uniform slotted SIW. Moreover, there are no space harmonics in the slotted width-tapered SIW; it is a slow wave that produces the vertically polarized radiation. The proposed antenna is demonstrated at 28 GHz, which is one of the millimeter-wave bands specified for 5G. An experimental prototype of the antenna has an impedance bandwidth of about 9 GHz from 23.8 GHz to 32.8 GHz and an axial ratio bandwidth of about 1.4 GHz from 27.35 GHz to 28.75 GHz, which coincide well with simulated results.

In view of the heat transfer problem in fuel cell vehicle at climbing and high temperature environment, a method for spray cooling of the radiator using water produced by fuel cell is proposed. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of this method and predict the best working condition of spray at climbing and high temperature environment, a test bench was built to investigate the effects of four spray temperatures of 48 °C, 58 °C, 68 °C, and 74 °C on the cooling performance of the radiator. A three-dimensional model of the radiator was established, and the numerical simulation of radiator spray cooling was carried out based on the Euler–Lagrangian approach, and the validity and accuracy of the numerical simulation was verified by the experiments. Then the different spray angles and spray flow rates were considered to study the convective heat transfer coefficient of the radiator’s air side at climbing and high temperature environment, and the optimal working parameters were obtained. The results indicated that the spray at 74 °C still had a significant cooling performance on the radiator with the evaporation of the liquid film. The initial state of the spray hitting the surface of the radiator can be simulated, and the cooling performance can be evaluated by comparing the convective heat transfer coefficient of the air side of the radiator. The inclined spray is more effective than the vertical spray. At the interference of external wind speed of 40 km/h, the best heat transfer coefficient can be obtained with the 55° spray angle and the 9.44 g/s spray flow rate. This numerical simulation process can provide a reference for the design of fuel cell vehicle spray cooling system.

The computation of the solid angle and the detector efficiency is considering to be one of the most important factors during the measuring process for the radioactivity, especially the cylindrical γ-ray NaI(Tl) detectors nowadays have applications in several fields such as industry, hazardous for health, the gamma-ray radiation detectors grow to be the main essential instruments in radiation protection sector. In the present work, a generic numerical simulation method (NSM) for calculating the efficiency of the γ-ray spectrometry setup is established. The formulas are suitable for any type of source-to-detector shape and can be valuable to determine the full-energy peak and the total efficiencies and P/T ratio of cylindrical γ-ray NaI(Tl) detector setup concerning the truncated conical radioactive source. This methodology is based on estimate the path length of γ-ray radiation inside the detector active medium, inside the source itself, and the self-attenuation correction factors, which typically use to correct the sample attenuation of the original geometry source. The calculations can be completed in general by using extra reasonable and complicate analytical and numerical techniques than the standard models; especially the effective solid angle, and the detector efficiency have to be calculated in case of the truncated conical radioactive source studied condition. Moreover, the (NSM) can be used for the straight calculations of the γ-ray detector efficiency after the computation of improvement that need in the case of γ-γ coincidence summing (CS). The (NSM) confirmation of the development created by the efficiency transfer method has been achieved by comparing the results of the measuring truncated conical radioactive source with certified nuclide activities with the γ-ray NaI(Tl) detector, and a good agreement was obtained after corrections of (CS). The methodology can be unlimited to find the theoretical efficiencies and modifications equivalent to any geometry by essential sufficiently the physical selective considered situation.
