International audience; Ambrosia trifida L. (giant ragweed, Asteraceae) is native to the North American continent and was introduced into Europe and Asia at the end of the 19th century. In its native range, this tall annual species is common in riparian and ruderal habitats and is also a major weed in annual cropping systems. For nearly a century, A. trifida has also been of great concern in the U.S. for its highly allergenic pollen, necessitating targeted control measures to reduce its impact on human populations. Based on the distribution of A. trifida in North America and in its introduced range, riparian systems in the rest of the world may be particularly at risk to invasion, with potential negative consequences for their biodiversity. Currently, A. trifida has invaded Asia more widely than Europe, likely due to the more favourable local conditions in Asia. Throughout its introduced range, A. trifida is host to a limited number of invertebrates and pathogens and only a few biological agents are available for its control. The main impacts of A. trifida at a global level are on crop yield and human health, resulting in significant socio-economic impacts. The success of A. trifida invasion in areas in which it has been introduced is still unclear, but climate change may increase climate suitability, increasing the potential for A. trifida to spread. While effective management in cultivated fields seems potentially possible, the development and control of A. trifida in natural riparian habitats is of great concern due to the difficulty of management in these areas.

However, the ecological niches of individual AM fungal taxa are poorly understood. We collected > 300 soil samples from natural ecosystems worldwide and modelled the realised niches of AM fungal virtual taxa (VT; approximately species-level phylogroups). We found that environmental and spatial variables jointly explained VT distribution worldwide, with temperature and pH being the most important abiotic drivers, and spatial effects generally occurring at local to regional scales. While dispersal limitation could explain some variation in VT distribution, VT relative abundance was almost exclusively driven by environmental variables. Several environmental and spatial effects on VT distribution and relative abundance were correlated with phylogeny, indicating that closely related VT exhibit similar niche optima and widths. Major clades within the Glomeraceae exhibited distinct niche optima, Acaulosporaceae generally had niche optima in low pH and low temperature conditions, and Gigasporaceae generally had niche optima in high precipitation conditions. Identification of the realised niche space occupied by individual and phylogenetic groups of soil microbial taxa provides a basis for building detailed hypotheses about how soil communities respond to gradients and manipulation in ecosystems worldwide. Widely known as the "tree of life", coconut (Cocos nucifera L.) provides a bountiful source for making a wide variety of healthy foods and industrial items. Its cultivation, however, has been encountering seriously destructive issues including lethal diseases and natural adversities which are currently distressing livelihoods of millions of small-holder farmers around the world. There is an urgent mandate to resolve these issues by meeting sustainable seedling production, facilitating genetic conservation, as well as developing disease identification and modern breeding. This book introduces improvements in coconut biotechnology by covering the advances in micropropagation, germplasm conservation, and molecular pathogenic diagnosis. This comprehensive volume will be a useful source of information and references to researchers, graduate students, agricultural developers, and scholars in the plant sciences. In order to benefit general readers, the book also covers fundamental aspects of biology, diversity, and evolution of this marvelous palm species.

Sixty year ago, Charles Elton posed that species-rich communities should be more resistant to biological invasion. However, still little is known about which processes could drive the diversity-invasibility relationship. Here we examined whether soil-microbes-mediated apparent competition on alien invaders is more negative when the soil originates from multiple native species. We trained soils with five individually grown native species, and used amplicon sequencing to analyze the resulting bacterial and fungal soil communities. We mixed the soils to create trained soils from one, two or four native species. We then grew four alien species separately on these differently trained soils. In the soil-conditioning phase, the five native species built species-specific bacterial and fungal communities in their rhizospheres. In the test phase, it did not matter for biomass of alien plants whether the soil had been trained by one or two native species. However, the alien species achieved 11.7% (95% CI: 3.7% ~ 20.1%) less aboveground biomass when grown on soils trained by four native species than on soils trained by two native species. Our results revealed soil-microbes-mediated apparent competition as a mechanism underlying the negative relationship between diversity and invasibility. published

Our aim was to understand the environmental conditions of the emergence and radiation of early angiosperms. Such a question has long remained controversial because various approaches applied in the past have drawn conflicting images of early angiosperm ecology. We provided a new perspective on the question by using support vector machines to model the environmental niche of 51 species belonging to ten genera of extant lineages that diverged early during angiosperm evolution (basal angiosperms). Then, we analysed the resulting pattern of niche overlap and determined whether this pattern deviates from what would be expected on the basis of a null model or whether it might mirror a legacy of a common primitive niche based on a phylogenetic reconstruction. The niche of three-quarters of the species and all genera converged towards tropical montane cloud forests (TMCFs). The latitudinal pattern of basal angiosperm richness indeed culminated in the tropics, and the elevational pattern revealed a humpback curve peaking between 2000 m and 3500 m when accounting for the effect of area. At first glance, this diversity pattern does not significantly differ from null predictions. However, we revealed a tendency for the basal-most taxa to occur in TMCFs so that phylogenetic reconstructions indicated that the niche of the common ancestor of the sampled basal angiosperms had a probability of 0.85–0.93 to overlap with TMCFs. Our new approach indicates that the environmental convergence of extant basal angiosperms towards TMCFs would reflect a legacy of an ancestral niche from which the least basal taxa would have diverged following a random pattern under geometric constraints.

Introduction. De nos jours, la gestion des ressources forestières ne se focalise plus sur l’exploitation exclusive du bois d’œuvre, mais prend également en considération les produits forestiers non ligneux. Entandrophragma cylindricum (Sprague) Sprague, de son nom commercial « sapelli/sapele », de la famille des Meliaceae, illustre parfaitement cette situation. Le présent article fait un état de l’art des connaissances concernant E. cylindricum et présente quelques informations sur la chenille qui lui est inféodée.Littérature. Le sapelli est une des espèces ligneuses les plus exploitées d’Afrique centrale pour son bois d’œuvre. Il est répandu dans la forêt dense humide semi-caducifoliée du domaine guinéo-congolais. C’est une espèce semi-héliophile, son mode de dispersion est anémochore et sa phénologie est régulière. Selon la sylviculture appliquée, sa croissance en diamètre peut atteindre jusque 0,82 cm par an. Cette essence est également l’hôte d’une espèce de chenille comestible riche en protéines, Imbrasia oyemensis Rougeot. Fortement appréciée par les populations locales, cette chenille fait également l’objet d’un commerce régional et international. Enfin, l’écorce du sapelli est reconnue pour son intérêt ethnobotanique, particulièrement en médecine traditionnelle.Conclusions. Les informations tirées de la littérature ont permis de mettre en évidence certaines lacunes relatives à l’écologie et au mode de reproduction de cette espèce et, ceci, en dépit de son importance pour le commerce du bois. De plus, les inconnues quant à la productivité et la saisonnalité des chenilles d’Imbrasia oyemensis sur cet arbre nécessitent de développer des recherches complémentaires pour garantir la durabilité de l’exploitation simultanée de la ressource ligneuse et non ligneuse et pour proposer des modes de gestion concertés entre exploitants industriels et populations locales., Entandrophragma cylindricum (Sprague) Sprague (Meliaceae), a competitive tree species in Central Africa. Nowadays, the management of forest resources is no longer focused on the exclusive extraction of timber; it must also consider the use and management of non-timber forest products. Entandrophragma cylindricum (Sprague) Sprague, whose trade name is “sapelli/sapele”, and which belongs to the Meliaceae family, perfectly illustrates this issue. This article proposes an overview of the existing literature regarding E. cylindricum and presents some information on its host caterpillar.Literature. Sapele is among the most exploited tree species in Central Africa, due to its valuable timber. This tree is common in the semi-deciduous rainforest of the Guinean–Congolese domain. It is a non-pioneer, light-demanding species, its dispersal mode is anemochorous and the phenology is regular. Logging coupled with thinning boosts the diametric growth of individuals by up to 0.82 cm·year-1. Sapele is also the host of an edible caterpillar species that is rich in protein, Imbrasia oyemensis Rougeot. Highly appreciated by the local populations, this caterpillar is sought out for regional and international trade purposes. In addition, the bark of the sapele is renowned for its ethnobotanical properties, especially in traditional medicine.Conclusions. The information reviewed from the literature helped to highlight some gaps in the knowledge regarding the reproductive ecology of this species, despite its importance for the timber trade. In addition, the current lack of information regarding the productivity and the seasonality of caterpillars of I. oyemensis inhabiting this tree requires the development of complementary research to ensure the sustainability of timber and non-timber uses for sapele. In addition, it is important that such improved silvicultural techniques involve concerted management interventions between logging companies and the local populations.

L’étude de la diversité floristique des ptéridophytes est menée au sein de l’écosystème forestier urbain de Brazzaville, très anthropisé et dont la flore, notamment les ptéridophytes, est mal connue. L’inventaire floristique itinérant ressort 24 espèces représentant à 19 genres et 11 familles dont les Polypodiaceae rassemblent 83,33 % des taxons. Des taxons recensés, Pteris vittata connu d’ailleurs est nouvellement identifié au Congo. En rapport avec le type d’habitat, les épiphytes sont prépondérants avec 6 espèces réparties dans 2 familles Polypodiaceae (83,3 %) et Davalliaceae (16,7 %). La flore des milieux humides compte 5 espèces regroupées dans quatre familles ainsi qu’il suit : Adiantaceae (20 %), Athyriaceae (40 %), Schizaeaceae (20 %), Blechnaceae (20 %). Les Ptéridophytes terrestres regroupent 3 espèces, avec une prédominance des Dennstaedtiaceae (66,66 %). Cette distribution met en évidence deux groupes : (i) un groupe d’espèces dites bioindicateurs écologiques parfaits, spécialisées à un biotope bien défini et satisfaisant à des exigences écologiques particulières ; (ii) le second est constitué de taxons (non bio-indicateurs) presque indifférents aux conditions du milieu. Au regard des adaptations développées, de la diversité et spécificité des biotopes occupés, et des services bioécologiques reconnus aux Ptéridophytes, ils n’en constituent pas moins un bon matériel didactique et/ou support des enseignements des sciences de la vie. L’analyse phytogéographique révèle que l’élément à large distribution (75 % de taxons) domine l’élément endémique (25 %). L’aménagement des voiries en général et la dégradation de l’écosystème forestier urbain, suite aux actions anthropiques récurrentes et de niveau d’intensité plus élevé, impactent fortement le développement des populations de ptéridophytes dans la ville de Brazzaville. study of the floristic diversity of pteridophytes is carried out in the urban forest ecosystem of Brazzaville which is very damaged by anthropogenic actions and whose flora, in particular the pteridophytes are poorly known. The itinerant floristic inventory results in 24 species representing 19 genera and 11 families with 83.33 % of the taxa Polypodiaceae. From the listed taxa, Pteris vittata already known elsewhere has been recently identified in the Congo. In relation to habitat type, epiphytic are predominant with 6 species in 2 Polypodiaceae families (83.3 %) and Davalliaceae (16.7 %). The wetland flora has 5 species grouped in four families as follows : Adiantaceae (20 %), Athyriaceae (40 %), Schizaeaceae (20 %), Blechnaceae (20 %). Terrestrial pteridophytes Group 3 species, with a predominance of Dennstaedtiaceae (66.66 %). This distribution shows two groups : (i) a group of species known as ecological bio-indicators Perfect, specialized in a well-defined biotope and meeting specific ecological requirements ; (ii) The second is made up of taxa (non-bio-indicators) that are almost indifferent to environmental conditions. In view of the adaptations developed, the diversity and specificity of the occupied Biotopes, and the bio-ecological services recognized in the pteridophytes, they are nevertheless a good teaching material and/or support of the teachings of the sciences of the Life. Phytogeographic analysis reveals that the large-distribution element dominates (75 % of taxa) dominates the endemic element (25 %). The development of the public urban roads in general and the degradation of the urban forest ecosystem, as a result of recurrent anthropogenic actions and higher levels of intensity, strongly impact the growth of pteridophytes populations in the city of Brazzaville.

The convergent evolution in growth habit is a fundamental phenomenon linking plant ecology and evolution. Remarkably illustrated in island biotas, this phenomenon has never been identified in the original and megadiverse New Caledonian biodiversity hotspot. Through an approach combining plant architecture, functional traits, taxonomy, phylogeny and environmental data, this thesis analyses the evolutionary history of the scarcely known monocaulous growth habit in New Caledonia. Monocauls are self-supporting woody plants whose cardinal functions rely on a single visible stem. In New Caledonia, they are represented by 182 dicotyledonous species belonging to 41 genera and 30 families and are critically endangered. The repeated evolution of the monocaulie in New Caledonia, resulting from at least 31 independent events, is one of the most remarkable cases of convergence in insular environments. In the genus Atractocarpus (Rubiaceae), monocauly evolved recently two to three times through branch reductions into inflorescences, emphasizing the importance of heterochronic processes in the evolution of growth habit. Monocauly is strongly correlated with several traits illustrating major constraints in functional coordination. The evolution of monocauly is strongly associated with rainforests and ultramafic substrate, and seems to have contributed to the diversification of lineages by niche partitioning. The remarkable convergence toward monocauly in New Caledonia can be explained by four major hypotheses: (i) the structural features of rainforests (related to cyclone frequency and intensity) favoring unidirectional exploration of space, (ii) the edaphic constraints associated with ultramafic substrate favoring architectural pauperization, (iii) the historical absence of large native browsers to which monocauls are particularly sensitive, and (iv) the persistence of rainforest during – and spread-out after – glacial episodes that served as refugia and further provided ecological opportunities.; L’évolution convergente des formes de croissance est un phénomène fondamental reliant l’écologie et l’évolution des plantes. Remarquablement illustré dans plusieurs systèmes insulaires, ce phénomène n’a jamais été identifié en Nouvelle-Calédonie, pourtant connue pour la richesse et l’originalité de sa flore. Par une approche combinant architecture des plantes, traits fonctionnels, taxonomie, phylogénie et données environnementales, cette thèse analyse l’histoire évolutive de la monocaulie, une forme de croissance mal connue, en Nouvelle-Calédonie. Les monocaules sont des plantes autoportantes ligneuses dont les fonctions majeures sont assurées par une seule tige apparente. En Nouvelle-Calédonie, elles sont représentées par 182 espèces dicotylédones appartenant à 41 genres et 30 familles et sont gravement menacées d’extinction. L’évolution répétée de la monocaulie en Nouvelle-Calédonie, issue d’au moins 31 événements d’apparition, est l’un des cas les plus remarquables de convergence en milieu insulaire. Dans le genre Atractocarpus, la monocaulie est apparue récemment deux à trois fois via diverses réductions des branches en inflorescences, montrant l’importance des processus hétérochroniques dans l’évolution des formes de croissance. La monocaulie est fortement corrélée à plusieurs traits démontrant des contraintes majeures dans la coordination fonctionnelle. L’évolution de la monocaulie est fortement associée aux forêts denses humides et au substrat ultramafique, et semble avoir contribué à la diversification des lignées par des phénomènes de partitionnement de niche. La remarquable convergence de la monocaulie en Nouvelle-Calédonie peut s’expliquer par quatre hypothèses majeures liées (i) à la structure particulière des forêts denses humides (en lien avec les cyclones) favorisant l’exploration unidirectionnelle de l’espace, (ii) aux contraintes édaphiques liées aux substrats ultramafiques favorisant la paupérisation architecturale, (iii) à l’absence historique de grands brouteurs, auxquels les monocaules sont particulièrement sensibles, et (iv) à la persistance des forêts denses humides lors des épisodes glaciaires (servant de refuges pour ces espèces sensibles) et leur expansion post-glaciaire (fournissant de nombreuses opportunités écologiques).

International audience; When the Amazonian rain forest is cut to create pasture, some of the original vegetal species survive clearing, even expressing their ability to invade agro-systems. It is true of the babassu palm, which can be considered, paradoxically, a natural resource by the "Interstate Movement of Babassu Fruit Breaker Women" or as native weed by land owners-farmers. To manage potential conflict of land uses, we study here the current density of this palm tree in different habitats, based on a combination of field data and remote sensing data. Firstly, we checked that the field survey methodology (i.e., counting free-trunk palm trees over 20 cm in circumference) provides density values compatible with those stemming from satellite images interpretation. We can see then that, a PA-Benfica Brazilian territory revealed an average density of the babassu lower in pastures (2.86 ind/ha) than in the dense forest (4.72 ind/ha) from which they originate and than in fallow land (4.31 ind/ ha). We analyze in detail density data repartition in three habitats and we discuss results from the literature on the density of this palm tree versus its resilience at different developmental stages after forest clearing, depending on anthropogenic -or not- factors, including solar radiation, fire, weeding, clear cutting, burying fruit, and competition with forage grass. All these results can be exploited for the design of future management plans for the babassu palm and we think that the linked methodology and interdisciplinary approach can be extended to others palms and trees species in similar problematic issues.

International audience; Background and aims – The thermophilous woodlands of the Mediterranean region constitute reservoirs of genetic resources for several fruit trees. Among them, the carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua) is a key component of traditional Mediterranean agroecosystems but its ecology was never assessed at the scale of its whole distribution area. Fortunately, phytosociological literature shelters invaluable resources for several issues in conservation, among them the possibility to analyse plant biodiversity at regional or continental scale. Here, we present the results of a comprehensive survey of the phytosociological literature associated to carob tree.Methods – We collected 1542 floristic relevés performed in 18 geographical areas distributed around the Mediterranean in which the presence of C. siliqua was recorded. Species composition of the plant communities was analysed by multivariate ordination and hierarchical classification, and species diversity was evaluated by rarefaction and prediction analyses of Hill numbers.Key results – Multivariate analyses revealed that plant communities associated with the carob tree are well differentiated between the Western and Eastern basins. A wider range of floristic differentiation is revealed in the Western basin where the vegetation reaches its maximal heterogeneity. By comparison, in the Eastern basin the plant assemblages associated with the carob tree are more homogeneous and with a lower species richness but a higher Simpson diversity.Conclusions – The large ecological range of the Mediterranean carob trees is potentially an important evolutionary legacy for the conservation of genetic resources and seed sourcing for new uses such as restoration ecology.

Most tropical landscapes are mainly composed of dynamic mosaics involving multiple land uses. Different histories of land use management can lead to different successional paths. The aim of this study was to determine if there is a successional floristic gradient related to land use types and how these gradients change across three rural mosaics in Eastern Amazon. We also investigated what are the indicator species across mosaics and land use types and how they change through succession. Five sampling points were established in nine family farms at each mosaic. A detrended correspondence analysis was used to reveal the successional gradient. A multivariate regression tree was used to analyze differences in floristic composition between mosaics and land uses. Floristic similarity between land uses formed successional gradient at the mosaics, in which agricultural land uses represent the early stages of secondary succession and forests represent more advanced stages. Total number of species and total number of shade-tolerant species were correlated with advanced successional stages in all mosaics, but pioneer trees were also correlated with advanced stages in fragmented mosaics. Each mosaic had a distinct successional series due to different management approaches. Where the matrix was mainly composed of forest fragments and the human intervention period was shorter, land use types were more similar to one another as they were grouped into fewer successional stages. Thus, the floristic similarity between land use types appears as an indicator of successional advancement across the mosaics and help determine the regenerative capacity of those areas.

Aim: To determine the role of regional forcing on plot-level species diversity and composition, and to quantify the relative importance of biogeographical and climatic factors in explaining woody plant diversity and composition at the local-, island- and archipelago-scale. Location: Forty-one tropical islands of the Indo-Pacific region from Madagascar to Hawai‘i Island. Methods: We analysed the diversity and composition of tropical woody plant communities located across 113 plots, 41 islands and 19 archipelagos. We used generalized linear mixed-effects models and generalized dissimilarity models to determine the role of regional forcing at the island and archipelago scale and to assess the relative importance of biogeographical (area and isolation of islands or archipelagos, geographical distance between plots) and climatic factors in explaining differences in local diversity and composition (species turnover). Analyses were conducted at different geographical scales (local, island and archipelago) and taxonomic levels (species, genus and family). Results: Variation in local (plot-level) diversity (as species density, the number of species per 100 woody plants) was primarily explained by island and archipelago identity. Maximum species density was positively correlated with the area of an island (or archipelago) and negatively correlated with the isolation of an archipelago. Local climatic variability was also a significant predictor of species density, but less important than regional forcing. Climate variables explained < 20% of the variation in species turnover across all plots. The importance of geographical distance between plots relative to climate in driving species turnover decreased from the species to family level, and from the regional to island level. Main conclusions: Regional forcing was the key driver of local diversity and composition on islands. Island area and archipelago isolation are likely driving local diversity through their effects on the pool of island species. Geographical distance between plots is the main factor explaining species turnover, while at higher taxonomic levels, climatic factors and niche conservatism are the main drivers. Summary Where large browsers are abundant, the survival of trees depends on their ability to deploy defences, either chemical or structural. Structural defences include the arrangement of dense and intricate architecture, termed ‘cage’ architecture. Previous studies showed that trees developing in herbivore-rich environments tend to have more cage architecture but its precise effect on mammalian herbivores remains unknown. In this paper, we experimentally test how cage architecture affects the bite rate of goats, a generalist mammalian herbivore. We selected 11 palatable tree species with contrasting architectures. We described their caginess using an index combining spinescence and woodiness of their stems. Finally, we evaluated how the caginess of trees slows down herbivores when feeding on the inner leaves in tree crowns. We observed that the bite rate of goats on inner leaves of the cagiest trees was so severely reduced that they could not satisfy their daily nutritional requirements. We discuss how this could affect the preference of wild herbivores for less cagy trees, especially at the end of the dry season. A lay summary is available for this article.

Depuis les indépendances des années 1960, les pays d'Afrique subsaharienne sont touchés par une crise de l'urbain en raison de l'explosion démographique des villes et des pressions foncières qui en résultent. Celles-ci se traduisent par un étalement urbain très rapide, selon des logiques locales d'aménagement à l'horizontal, et par la prolifération des zones d'habitat spontané qui questionnent le devenir de la végétation urbaine et son degré d'inclusion dans la planification des villes. En effet, dans ce contexte de crise économique et foncière, les pouvoirs politiques manquent souvent de moyens pour répondre à tous les enjeux posés par la ville. Cette étude menée dans la ville de Bobo-Dioulasso au Burkina Faso permet de donner une première approche des rapports et des tensions entre ville et "nature" en Afrique de l'Ouest. Elle vise à présenter la complexité de ces relations et les systèmes de gestion particuliers que celles-ci appellent. La recherche a pour but également de questionner les enjeux qui sous-tendent cette biodiversité végétale urbaine, dans un contexte où les usages "traditionnels" et "informels" de celle-ci constituent une part très importante du quotidien de la majorité des citadins. Enfin, l'étude s'attache à analyser dans quelles conditions ces pratiques peuvent se conjuguer avec un développement "durable" de la ville.

La ville de Bobo-Dioulasso est située dans la Province du Houet, dans la Région des Hauts Bassins et est la capitale économique du Burkina Faso. Au cours de son processus d'urbanisation de nombreuses espèces disparaissent pendant que d'autres sont introduites. Notre étude est une première approche de ce patrimoine végétal très peu connu. La démarche méthodologique adoptée comporte trois parties. Tout d'abord elle a consisté en une recherche documentaire, ensuite des inventaires de la végétation urbaine très hétérogène ont été réalisés. Dans le site de l'aéroport qui présente une végétation quasi-naturelle, les méthodes classiques de l'écologie ont été employées. Les méthodes ont été adaptées pour les cours et les artères. Ces inventaires ont permis de caractériser la flore ligneuse et herbacée, de comparer les trois types de formation végétales en particulier en ce qui concerne l'appartenance phytogéographiques de leurs espèces. Bien qu'elle ne soit qu'une première approche sur la diversité biologique urbaine, l'étude montre que la ville de Bobo-Dioulasso recèle une importante biodiversité végétale : on a pu dénombrer au total 199 espèces (82 espèces herbacées et 117 espèces ligneuses) appartenant à 59 familles. Le site quasi-naturel de l'aéroport abrite 61 espèces herbacées appartenant à 23 familles et 53 espèces ligneuses appartenant à 21 familles. Dans les cours les 40 espèces ligneuses répertoriées appartiennent à 23 familles et les 21 espèces herbacées répertoriées appartiennent à 15 familles. Les 22 espèces ligneuses répertoriées dans les artères appartiennent à 15 familles. L'étude de l'appartenance phytogéographique a permis de montrer 39% SZ, 35% AF, 26% LR pour les ligneux de l'aéroport. 31% SZ, 2% Int, 26% AF, 41% LR pour les herbacés de l'aéroport. Pour les cours nous avons 25% Int, 7% AF, 54% LR, 14% SZ pour les ligneux et 39% Int, 11% AF, 50% LR pour les herbacés. Pour ce qui est des artères nous avons 25% Int, 59% LR, 18% SZ.

There is growing interest among conservationists in biodiversity mapping based on stacked species distribution models (SSDMs), a method that combines multiple individual species distribution models to produce a community-level model. However, no user-friendly interface specifically designed to provide the basic tools needed to fit such models was available until now. 2. The ssdm package is a computer platform implemented in r providing a range of methodological approaches and parameterisation at each step in building the SSDM: e.g. pseudo-absence selection, variable contribution and model accuracy assessment, inter-model consensus forecasting, species assembly design, and calculation of weighted endemism. 3. The object-oriented design of the package is such that: users can modify existing methods, extend the framework by implementing new methods, and share them to be reproduced by others. 4. The package includes a graphical user interface to extend the use of SSDMs to a wide range of conservation scientists and practitioners.

Etudier la régulation naturelle des populations de ravageurs des cultures de bas-fonds rizicoles requiert des observations à l'échelle du paysage. Compte tenu de l'hétérogénéité spatiale qui caractérise le paysage, la question de la représentativité de l'échantillon est posée. Cet article présente une méthodologie qui permet d'intégrer la variabilité spatiale du paysage dans le processus d'échantillonnage. En effet, à partir d'une image satellite Pléiades THRS et d'un modèle numérique de terrain (SRTM), la carte d'occupation du sol de la zone d'étude dans la localité de Pélébina au centre du Bénin a été réalisée. Dans un second temps, le paysage est subdivisé en unités paysagères (unités d'observation) et des variables environnementales sont calculées. Enfin, en fonction des variables environnementales pertinentes vis-à-vis de l'objet d'étude, le paysage est stratifié en classes d'unités d'observation. Le résultat est une base de sondage aréolaire qui permet de faire un sondage spatial stratifié.

The palm genus Astrocaryum with 40 species is common in tropical South America extending northwards reaching Central America and Trinidad. Twenty-six species grow in Brazil, 14 in Peru, 11 in Colombia, 9 in Guyana, 9 in Suriname, 8 in Bolivia, 8 in French Guiana, 6 in Venezuela, 4 in Ecuador, 2 in Costa Rica, 2 in Panama, and 1 in Trinidad. The genus includes solitary or caespitose species in the following classes: (i) large palms with tall stem, (ii) palms with large leaves and medium-sized, or short, or subterranean stem, (iii) slender to mediumsized palms, (iv) acaulescent palms with very short leaves. Although most Astrocaryum species are used by humans, only a few may have promising economic potential and are significantly important in the local and regional trade. In this article, I propose a new taxonomic classification based on characters of the fruit, flowers and vegetative parts. The genus is divided in three subgenera: (i) Munbaca with two sections, Munbaca and Mumbacusu, each with 2 species; (ii) Astrocaryum with two sections, Euchambira (new section with 1 species) and Astrocaryum with three subsections — Astrocaryum (9 species), Acaulia (5 species) and Perstaminata (new subsection with 1 species); (iii) Monogynanthus with four sections: Monogynanthus (with 3 species), Ayri (1 species), Guatinajo (new section with 1 species) and Huicungo (new section) that includes three subsections — Huicungo (7 species); Sachacungo (new subsection with 5 species), and Murumuru (3 species). A synoptic review of the genus is presented herein, including descriptions and illustrations as well as data on distribution, habit, ecology and common names for each species. International audience; Climate change is a threat to biodiversity, and adaptation measures should be considered in biodiversity conservation planning. Protected areas (PA) are expected to be impacted by climate change and improving their connectivity with biological corridors (BC) has been proposed as a potential adaptation measure, although assessing its effectiveness remains a challenge. In Mesoamerica, efforts to preserve the biodiversity have led to the creation of a regional network of PA and, more recently, BC. This study evaluates the role of BC for facilitating plant dispersal between PA under climate change in Mesoamerica. A spatially explicit dynamic model (cellular automaton) was developed to simulate species dispersal under different climate and conservation policy scenarios. Plant functional types (PFT) were defined based on a range of dispersal rates and vegetation types to represent the diversity of species in the region. The impacts of climate change on PA and the role of BC for dispersal were assessed spatially. Results show that most impacted PA are those with low altitudinal range in hot, dry, or high latitude areas. PA with low altitudinal range in high cool areas benefit the most from corridors. The most important corridors cover larger areas and have high altitude gradients. Only the fastest PFT can keep up with the expected change in climate and benefit from corridors for dispersal. We conclude that the spatial assessment of the vulnerability of PA and the role of corridors in facilitating dispersal can help conservation planning under a changing climate.

Le présent travail a été réalisé au niveau des versants sud des monts de Tlemcen au Nord-Ouest d’Algérie, (Algérie occidentale). Cette étude est consacrée à l’analyse phytoécologique des groupements à chamaerops humilis. L de la région sud. L’étude bioclimatique a révélé un décalage de certaines stations météorologiques vers des ambiances plus sèches sur le climagramme pluviothermique d’Emberger, témoignant ainsi une tendance générale à l’aridité. L’utilisation abusive des formations végétales par l’homme et ses troupeaux, conduit, selon la qualité des conditions environnementales (sols ; péjorations climatiques ; impact de l’homme), à différents stades de dégradation allant d’une altération partielle de la composition floristique à une perturbation totale. Nous avons pu décrire une liste des espèces dites caractéristiques du Chamaerops humilis ou encore les espèces qui constituent les groupements de cette dernière. Parmi eux nous avons 3 espèces fréquentes, ou espèces constantes: Calycotome intermedia, Ampelodesma mauritanicum et Thymus ciliatus. Parmi les espèces acompagnantes du Chamaerops humilis, il ya aussi ; Asphodelus microcarpus, Quercus ilex , Echium vulgare. Sinapis arvensis et Papaver rhoeas. Le Sahel est une zone aride aujourd'hui menacée par les changements climatiques qui entrainent une grande vulnérabilité sociale et environnementale. L'agriculture des pays sahéliens doit faire face à cette évolution pour assurer la sécurité alimentaire de leurs populations croissantes. L'utilisation d'espèces végétales de grande plasticité phénologique comme le palmier dattier (Phoenix dactylifera L.,), fait partie des réponses face à des conditions pédoclimatiques difficiles auxquelles peu de plantes sont adaptées. L'objectif de cette thèse est d'améliorer nos connaissances sur les pratiques culturales, les savoirs locaux autour du palmier dattier et la diversité génétique et morphologique de cette espèce afin de promouvoir le développement durable de l'agriculture oasienne au Sahel. Ainsi, nous avons conduit une enquête socio-économique auprès de 30 producteurs de palmier dattier dans 14 villages du Sud-Est du Niger. Parallèlement à cette enquête nous avons collecté 113 échantillons de jeunes folioles, prélevées sur 31 mâles et 82 femelles de palmier dattier dans 19 cuvettes oasiennes. Notre étude a permis d'identifier 19 variétés-populations de palmier dattier distinguées sur la base de la couleur du fruit. Le palmier dattier présente une particularité de double floraison associée à deux saisons de productions de dattes dans le Sahel. La période février-juillet est la plus productive mais l'arrivée précoce des pluies limite la qualité des fruits. L'évaluation des connaissances locales associées à la phoeniciculture a permis d'établir que même si les pratiques culturales sont moins développées que dans le Nord du pays ou dans le Maghreb, les profits dégagés par la culture des dattes contribuent considérablement à la survie des ménages. Par ailleurs, l'analyse génétique des palmiers dattiers du Sud-est du Niger a montré qu'ils constituent un groupe original avec une grande diversité génétique. De plus, cette ressource appartient au pool génétique occidental et est l'une des moins introgressée par des contributions génétiques orientales. L'analyse génétique globale révèle un nouveau groupe au Sud-est Niger différent de celui d'Afrique du Nord et soulève la question de son origine. Enfin, nous avons mis en évidence l'existence de traits architecturaux discriminant les palmiers dattiers du Sahel. Nous avons ainsi élaboré un modèle architectural permettant le calcul de l'interception lumineuse et des espacements nécessaires pour une bonne cohabitation des palmiers et des cultures sous-jacentes afin d'optimiser la production agricole. Notre étude a montré que la culture du palmier dattier constitue un élément clé pour l'amélioration des conditions de vie des populations, la lutte contre la malnutrition et l'équilibre agro-écologique dans le Sahel. Elle constitue un préalable indispensable à la conservation, la valorisation et l'amélioration du patrimoine phoenicicole. Enfin, le modèle architectural fonctionnel permettra de mettre à disposition un outil opérationnel pour la gestion durable des cultures du palmier dattier au Sahel.

In drylands, trees fulfil major ecological, socioeconomic and cultural functions to combat desertification. However, the dynamics of stands of Vachellia tortilis subsp. Raddiana – the most widespread acacia species in the Sahara – and the influence of agropastoral societies on those stands remain poorly understood. The aim of this research is to contribute to making good this gap in knowledge through an interdisciplinary study of acacia stands in Morocco, in an environment characterized by severe climatic risk. An ethno-ecological and sociological approach was associated with an ecological approach in order to understand the dynamics of the socio-ecological system where people and acacia stands interact. Our results show that agropastoralists integrate acacia trees in their production system, by means of practices, rules and ecological knowledge that ensure the sustainable coexistence of trees and people. Agropastoralists shape and manage agroforestry parklands in cultivated areas and use acacia trees as a pastoral resource in periods of scarcity. In parallel with those activities, acacia stands are regenerating in the study area. Furthermore, the scientific literature and our results suggest that agropastoral activities contribute positively to this regeneration. The forestry administration presents, however, a pessimistic diagnosis regarding acacia stands in this region and imposes a top-down policy that does not favor the involvement of rural populations or the effective conservation of the acacia stands. Foresters and local users are in agreement however with regard to the ecological issues raised by charcoal production, but the combat against this activity is impeded by a tense socio-political context. The recognition and valorization by foresters of local farmers’ management practices could provide a basis for dialogue in the interests of better preserving the acacia trees. Our study suggests that monitoring those trees, as relevant indicators of complex socio-ecological interactions, can help to better anticipate and to address socio-environmental changes more efficiently., Dans les zones sèches, les arbres assurent des fonctions écologiques, socioéconomiques et culturelles majeures pour lutter contre la désertification. Pourtant, la dynamique des peuplements de Vachellia tortilis subsp. raddiana – l’acacia le répandu du Sahara – ainsi que l’influence des sociétés d’agropasteurs sur ces formations demeurent mal comprises. Ce travail propose de contribuer à combler ces lacunes à travers une recherche interdisciplinaire sur les peuplements d’acacia du Maroc, dans un environnement marqué par un fort aléa climatique. Une approche ethnoécologique et sociologique a été associée à une approche écologique pour comprendre les dynamiques du socioécosystème dans lequel interagissent des Hommes et des peuplements d’acacia. Nos résultats montrent que les agropasteurs intègrent les acacias à leur système de production, grâce à des pratiques, des règles et des savoirs écologiques garants d’une cohabitation durable entre l’Homme et les arbres. Les agropasteurs façonnent et entretiennent des parcs agroforestiers dans les zones cultivées et utilisent l’acacia comme ressource pastorale de disette. En parallèle à ces activités, les peuplements d’acacia de la zone d’étude perdurent et leur maintien n’est pas menacé. Par ailleurs, la littérature scientifique et nos résultats suggèrent que les activités agropastorales contribuent positivement au renouvellement des peuplements d’acacia. L’administration forestière dresse cependant un diagnostic pessimiste sur l’état des peuplements d’acacia de la région et impose une politique descendante ne favorisant ni l’implication des populations rurales ni une conservation efficace des acacias. Forestiers et usagers convergent néanmoins autour des problèmes écologiques que pose le charbonnage, dont la lutte est entravée par un contexte sociopolitique tendu. La reconnaissance, puis la valorisation, de la gestion paysanne par les forestiers pourrait constituer la base d’un dialogue pour mieux préserver les acacias. Indicateurs pertinents des interactions socioécologiques complexes, notre étude suggère que le suivi de ces arbres peut permettre d’anticiper et de répondre plus efficacement aux changements socioenvironnementaux.

2016 تمييز نباتي بيئي لمراعي بلغازي في منطقة تيميمون – ولاية أدرار الملخص إن الصحراء وسط قاحل، قاس و معيق لحياة الكائنات وهذا مرتبط خصوصا بقلة الأمطار الغير منتظمة والمصحوبة بدرجات الحرارة المرتفعة والرياح المستمرة. لكن ورغم كل هذا هناك دائما مناطق جيومورفولوجية توفر ظروف مواتية أكثر أو أقل مواتية لتواجد غطاء نباتي عفوي مميز. رعي الإبل في هذا الوسط الصحراوي يعتمد على استغلال الغطاء النباتي لهذا الوسط الصحراوي. وقد ركز عملنا على التوصيف النباتي البيئي لهاته المراعي بمنطقة بلغازي، لهذا الغرض أجرينا 02 عينة ميدانية مع ما مجموعه 20 نباتات فقط تنتمي إلى 20 أصناف و 20 عائلات،هاته الأنواع عموما تتميز بمقاومتها العالية للجفاف بالإضافة إلى تكيفها العالي مع المناخ الصحراوي،البعض منها ملحي. لكن الأطياف البيوجغرافية ا تظهر سيادة العنصر ، Phanérophytes تحليل الأطياف لبيولوجية تظهر الأهمية العددية ل . Cela est essentiellement lié aux pluviométries très faibles et très irrégulières, accentué par des températures très élevées et des vents continuels. Néanmoins, il existe toujours des zones géomorphologiques qui offrent des conditions plus ou moins favorables à l’existence d’une flore spontanée caractéristique. L'élevage camelin se base sur l'exploitation du couvert floristique de ce milieu désertique. Notre travail a porté sur une caractérisation phytoécologique de ces parcours de la région de Belghazi. À cet effet nous avons réalisé 20 relevés, comportant un total de 08 espèces uniquement, appartenant à 08 genres et 07 familles. Ces espèces sont, dans l’ensemble, des xérophiles biens adaptés aux conditions sahariennes, une partie est halophile. L'analyse des spectres biologiques montre l'importance du nombre de phanérophytes, l'élément Saharo-sindien est le plus abondant. L’analyse factorielle des correspondances appliquées à la flore spontanée a révélé que les espèces se répartissent en fonction de leurs affinités écologiques. L’étude pédologique a montré que le sol de différentes placettes d’étude est de type sableux avec un pH alcalin et un taux de salinité relativement élevé par endroits. Characterization phytoecological of BELGHAZI courses from the region of Timimoun - Wilaya d’Adrar Abstract The Sahara is a very rough desert environment and very coercive to the survival of living beings. It is essentially bound to the very weak and very irregular rains accentuated by very elevated temperatures and the continual winds. Nevertheless, the morphological zones that offer some conditions more or less favorable to the existence of a characteristically spontaneous flora always exist. Camel breeding is based on the exploitation of floral coverage of this desert. Our work concerned a characterization phytoecological of these courses from the region of BELGHAZI. For this purpose we realized 20 samples having a total of 08 species only belonging to 08 genres and 07 families. These species are generally well adapted to drought and resist to Saharan conditions. Some is halophile. The Analysis of the biological spectra shows a high number of the phanerophytes, the Saharo - sindien element is most abundant. The factorial analysis of the correspondence applied to the spontaneous flora found that the plants repartition is a function of their ecological affinity. The soil study has shown that the soil of different plots is sandy type with a alkaline pH and high salinity rate by places. This work is devoted to the floristic study of groups of thuja and holm oak in the Mountains of Tlemcen. We carried out a floristic and pedological study on six stations, presenting the different geographical and climatic characteristics. The study of the vegetation was carried out by a typically phytoecological procedure of which vegetable formations offered a great diversity : 271 species were identified. The green oak and Tetraclinaies are the natural forest formations that are most representative and most diversified on the surface of study. The interpretation of the structure and architecture of the vegetable carpet, which is highlighted by a factorial analysis of the correspondences, has revealed modifications of the flora along a dynamic gradient that is consisted of the forest – pre-forest – matorral and the lawn. Thus, we focused on six different stations from the physionomical point of view, but also in terms of fertility of the soil. The analysis highlighted the main ecological factors in question. Thus, the altitude that best expresses the alternatives of the bioclimat is revealed to be a very discriminant ecological factor, by clearly separating the communities of mountains forests. On the level of the zones of low altitudes, fertility, and the anthropic disturbance play a role determining in the distribution of the vegetable communities. To conclude, the study underlines the remarkable interest, which presents the vegetation of the Mountains of Tlemcen, from their ecological point of view, biogeographic and evolutionary significances, as well as edaphic potentials. Considering the importance of degradation in this zone, which is of human and climatic origin, it is necessary to carry out a policy of conservation of this forest inheritance., Ce travail est consacré à l’étude floristique des groupements à thuya et à chêne vert dans les monts de Tlemcen. Nous avons mené de front une étude floristique et pédologique sur six stations présentant des caractéristiques géographiques et climatiques différentes. L’étude de la végétation a été réalisée par une démarche typiquement phytoécologique dont les formations végétales rencontrées offraient une grande diversité : 271 espèces ont été identifiées. Les chênaies vertes et les Tetraclinaies sont les formations forestières naturelles les plus représentatives et les plus diversifiées de l’aire d’étude. L’interprétation de la structure et de l’architecture du tapis végétal, mise en évidence par une analyse factorielle des correspondances, a révélé des modifications de la flore le long d’un gradient dynamique constitué par la forêt – préforêt –, le matorral et la pelouse. Cependant, six stations différentes du point de vue physionomique mais également en termes de fertilité du sol sont identifiées. L’analyse a mis en évidence les principaux facteurs écologiques en cause. Ainsi l’altitude qui exprime le mieux les variantes du bioclimat s’est révélée être un facteur écologique très discriminant, en séparant clairement les communautés des forêts de celles des montagnes. Au niveau des zones de basse altitude, la fertilité et la perturbation anthropique jouent un rôle déterminant dans la distribution des communautés végétales à matorral. En conclusion, l’étude souligne l’intérêt remarquable que présente la végétation des monts de Tlemcen, du point de vue de leurs significations écologiques, biogéographiques et évolutives ainsi qu’en matière de potentialités édaphiques. In this work, we studied the natural regeneration of Tetraclinis articulata (Vahl, Master) in the Oran region in Algeria. While this species produces large amounts of seeds, it seems to regenerate only by vegetative multiplication (i. e. by tillers) which is a rare phenomenon for gymnosperms. Therefore, its natural regeneration may be characterised by a seedling deficiency. To test this hypothesis and to investigate which obstacles prevent the installation and the development of Tetraclinis seedlings, we studied Tetraclinis regeneration in situ (in the fields). We choose three natural woodlands on the cost and at the back country of Mostaganem. The regional climate is hot and dry in summer (semi arid sensus Emberger) and warm in winter with about 380 mm of precipitation and an average annual temperature of 17.9 oC. In each woodland, we set 25 round plots of 100 m2. In order to sample as many different situations as possible, we varied, for each plot, the combination between the different factors thought to influence seedling establishment. We also set control plots which did not have any regeneration. The various factors thought to influence seedling establishment were recorded in each plot and are the following : 1 : physical characteristics, such as altitude, exposition, slope and topography ; 2 : the structure of the woodland : vegetation structure, number of clusters of adult Tetraclinis shoots, average number of shoots in an adult Tetraclinis cluster, average shoot height and total number of adult Tetraclinis shoots ; 3 : soil characteristics : geology, compaction, litter depth, percent cover of stones and gravels, erosion ; 4 : type of disturbance or artificial impact (pasture, fire, offence, replanting, reforestation) ; 5 : number of Tetraclinis seedlings by class of height and spatial position in relation to surrounding vegetation. After coding, we grouped all the observations in a 31 columns-variables and 75 lines-plots chart on which PCA (Principal Component Analysis) and Hierarchical Clustering were run. The results showed that the south, south west and west facing slopes, which are the warmest, are favourable to the installation of Tetraclinis seedlings. On these slopes, which support most adult trees, there are very few seedlings developping without any shelter. The same observations have also been reported for Pinus pinea in Italy by Masseti and Mencuccini (1991), for Quercus suber in Tunisia by Hasnaoui (1991) and for Quercus suber and Quercus pubescens in Sicilia by Di Pasquale and Garfi (1998). Tetraclinis seedlings are mainly found among the low vegetation (Rosmarinus, Cistus, Lavandula), and the maximum number of seedlings appears under the adult Tetraclinis trees themselves. All these observations show that Tetraclinis articulata can regenerate by seedlings, however their establishment seems to be limited by planted Pinus halepensis litter and pasture. In fact, the litter either by its thickness or its nature could stop the normal development of the natural germination. We can conclude that natural regeneration by seedlings is possible but is blocked early by several constraints among which pasture seems to be the most significant one., Longtemps sous-estimées en Afrique du Nord, les potentialités de régénération du thuya de Berbérie (Tetraclinis articulata) sont examinées ici en conditions naturelles en Oranie (Algérie). En effet, les peuplements du thuya semblent ne se régénérer que par multiplication végétative c’est-à-dire par rejets (phénomène rare chez les gymnospermes) et seraient donc caractérisés par une régénération naturelle déficiente en semis au vu de l’importante quantité de semences produites. Pour étayer ces hypothèses et afin de cerner les obstacles qui s’opposent à l’installation et au développement des jeunes plantules, une étude de terrain a été réalisée dans 3 taillis naturels de thuya de la région de Mostaganem à l’étage thermoméditerranéen. Cette étude s’appuie sur l’observation de 75 placettes où il a été pris en compte 31 variables sur chacune d’elles. L’ensemble des observations a fait l’objet d’analyses multivariées : classification ascendante hiérarchique (CAH) et analyse en composantes principales (ACP). Le présent travail est consacré à l'étude écologique du pin d'Alep dans la région de Tlemcen. Cette étude des formation à pin d'Alep intéressés aux comportements autoécologiques, aux aspects ( phytosociologiques dans la région de Tlemcen. Par ailleurs, nous avons voulu connaître quels sont les différents cortèges ' floristiques qui peuvent s'individualiser autour de cet espèce. ? Le cortège floristique à Pin d'Alep montre une certaine hétérogénéité, constituée par des reliques forestières et des espèces à pelouses. En effet notre inventaire floristique nous permet d'avancer que les thérophytes dominent les formations à Pin d'Alep. A A Le Pin d'Alep ne doit sa présence dans la région qu'au reboisement. Cette espèce à également montré ses limites > en matière de pérennité puisque la régénération naturelle est quasiment absente dans les formations initiales. مساهمة لدراسة البيولوجيا و البيئة النباتية ل Chamaerops humilis في الجزء الغربي من الجزائر. ملخص: تتركز هذه الدراسة ، مفصلة في 4 أجزاء، على البيولوجيا، والبيئة النباتية ل Chamaerops humilis و مدى قدرته على التكيف تجاه المعوقات البيئية في منطقة تلمسان ) غرب الجزائر(. في الجزء الأول، جرى عرض لمنطقة الدراسة من حيث الإيكولوجيا المناخية والبيولوجية الخاصة بالمنطقة. ويخصص الجزء الثاني البيولوجيا Chamaerops humilis ويتمحور في ثلاثة فصول. حددت المعارف الاثنية للاستعمالات الصيدلانية ل Chamaerops humilis في الفصل الأول، وخصص الفصل الثاني لدراسة نشاط المضاد للفطريات و التركيب الكيميائي للزيوت الأساسية ل Chamaerops humilis . أما الجزء الثالث فيخصص لدراسة مدى تحسين تقنيات رفع التثبيط الغلافي، ورفع نسبة الإنبات مع تبطؤ القدرة الانباتية لبذور Chamaerops humilis . ويكرسَّ الجزء الثالث لدراسة البيئة النباتية للمجموعات المتعلقة ب Chamaerops humilis في منطقة تلمسان. فأظهر التحليل النباتي تغيّر في بنية الغطاء النباتي السائد و غزو معمم من هذه التشكيلات ذات الطابع العشبي و المتلخفة عن اثار الانسان ونشاطاته الرعوية. استعمال التحليلات التي أثبتها متعدد المتغيرات) AFC و CAH ( للمجموعات النباتية ل Chamaerops humilis ، سمح لنا بالعثور على اثنين من التجمعات النباتية المتفردة : أولاهما وفق تدرج بيومناخي ثم وفق تدرج فيزيونومي يعكس حالة تدهور الغطاء النباتي ويتناول ا لجزء الأخير استجابة Chamaerops humilis تجاه المعوقات البيئية، وهي الحرائق والإجهاد الملحي و الإجهاد المائي. تبين استجابة Chamaerops humilis للآثار الناجمة عن الحريق مقاومة هذه الأنواع لهذه الظاهرة المقلقة ، كما أنه يتضح ذلك من خلال انتعاشها الفيزيولوجي الجيد ) 28 ٪ (. دراسة تأثير الإجهاد الملحي و الإجهاد المائي من خلال كلوريد الصوديوم و PEG 6000 في مرحلة الإنبات ل Chamaerops humilis يكشف أنه قادر على الإنبات على نطاق واسع من هذه الانواع من الإجهاد. هذه النتائج مدعمة بالدلائل الإحصائية المبينة لقدرة الإنبات و الحركية رغم هذه الضغوط غير الحيوية . مفاتيح الكلمات: Chamaerops humilis ، البيولوجيا، البيئة النباتية، الضغوط غير الحيوية ، تلمسان ) غرب الجزائر(. Contribution à l’étude biologique et phytoécologique du Chamaerops humilis L., dans la partie occidentale de l’Algérie. Résumé: Cette étude est focalisée sur la biologie, la phytoécologie du Chamaerops humilis et la tendance adaptative de cette dernière face aux contraintes environnementales dans la région de Tlemcen (Algérie occidentale). Elle est articulée sur 4 parties. Dans la première partie, la présentation de la zone d’étude au point de vue de la mésologie bioclimatique et biotique a été réalisée. La seconde partie est consacrée à la biologie du Chamaerops humilis, elle est structurée en 3 chapitres. Après avoir identifié les connaissances ethno-pharmaceutiques du Chamaerops humilis dans le premier chapitre, l’activité antibactérienne d’huile essentielle du Chamaerops humilis ont été étudiées dans le deuxième chapitre. Le troisième chapitre est consacré à l’amélioration et la propagation des techniques pour lever l’inhibition tégumentaire, renforcer le taux de la germination et ralentir le délai germinatif des graines du Chamaerops humilis. La troisième partie est réservée à l’étude phytoécologique des groupements à Chamaerops humilis dans la région de Tlemcen. L’analyse floristique a montré un changement dans la structure de la végétation dominante et un envahissement généralisé de ces formations par des espèces thérophytiques et anthropozoïques. La description des groupements végétaux à Chamaerops humilis par les analyses multivariées (A.F.C. et C.A.H.) nous a permis de décrire deux groupements végétaux individualisés d’abord par un gradient bioclimatique, puis par un gradient physionomique traduisant ainsi l’état de dégradation du couvert végétal. La dernière partie aborde la réponse du Chamaerops humilis aux contraintes environnementales à savoir, le feu, stress salin et stress hydrique. La réponse du Chamaerops humilis aux traumatismes occasionnés par le feu, montre la résistance de cette espèce à ce phénomène perturbateur, comme en témoigne la forte reprise phénologique de leur effectif (82 %). L’étude de l’effet des stress salins et stress hydriques par le biais du NaCl et PEG 6000 au stade germination du Chamaerops humilis révèle que celle-ci est capable de germer à un large éventail de stress salin et hydrique. Bien que des effets statistiquement significatifs ont été exercés sur la capacité germinative et la cinétique de germination face à ces contraintes abiotique. Summary: This study, articulated on 4 parts, is focused on the biology, the phytoecology of Chamaerops humilis and their adaptive tendency to the environmental constraints in the area of Tlemcen (Western Algeria). In the first part, the presentation of the study area in terms of the bioclimatic and biotic mesology was carried out. The second part is devoted to the biology of Chamaerops humilis. It is structured in three chapters. After having identified ethno-pharmaceutical knowledge's of Chamaerops humilis in the first chapter, the antifongic activity and the chemical composition of essential oil of Chamaerops humilis were studied in the second chapter. The third one is devoted the improvement and the propagation of the techniques to raise the integumentary inhibition, enhance the rate of germination and to slow down the germinatif time of seeds of Chamaerops humilis. The third part is reserved being studied phytoecological Chamaerops humilis group's in the area of Tlemcen. The floristic analysis showed a change in the structure of the dominant vegetation and a generalized invasion of these formations by therophytic and anthropozoïc species. The description of Chamaerops humilis vegetal group's with by multivariate analyzes (A.F.C. and C.A.H.) us allowed to describe two individualized vegetable groupings first by a bioclimatic gradient plant communities and a physiognomic gradient reflecting the state of degradation of vegetation cover. The last part approaches the response of Chamaerops humilis against the environmental constraints, namely, fire, salt stress and water stress. The response of Chamaerops humilis to the traumatisms caused by fire, shows the resistance of this species to this disturbing phenomenon, as evidenced by the strong phenologic recovery testifies some to their manpower (82 %). the study of the effect of S saline stress and water stress through the NaCl and PEG 6000 at the Chamaerops humilis germination stage reveals that it is able to germinate in a wide range of salt and water stress. Although statistically significant effects were exerted on the germination capacity and kinetics of germination address these abiotic stresses. International audience; High-Andean wetlands (bofedales) are one of the most threatened ecosystems in the face of global warming. Given the close relationship between bofedales and water, it is expected that glacial retreat will cause their gradual shrinkage. With three proxies of climate change (bofedal area, glacier influence and elevation) we inferred how these changes may affect plant communities. The hypotheses were 1) that loss in the area of bofedales should reduce plant diversity - the glacier influence and elevation could affect this relationship through effect on environmental heterogeneity and diversity - and 2) glacial retreat may indirectly affect diversity through changes in dominant species. We measured ? and ? additive diversity of plants in 20 bofedales (>4.400 m) in the Cordillera Real (Bolivia). Sixty three species were found (species richness: 5-22 /plot 1 m2). Variations in bofedales área and glacial influence weren't correlated with vegetation changes whereas diversity reduced at higher elevation. In reference to our second hypothesis, leaves of Oxychloe andina were shown more resistant to drought stress because of its higher leaf dry mass content (LDMC) than the other cushions, indicating that the bofedales dominated by O. andina may be drier and the communities are dominated by species that also can be found in drier environments. In contrast, communities of Distichia spp. are less tolerant to water déficit. If glacial retreat reduces water availability in the coming decades, the bofedales of O. andina may be more abundant at the expense of Distichia spp. creating challenges for the biodiversity conservation; Los humedales altoandinos (bofedales) son uno de los más amenazados frente al calentamiento global. Dada la estrecha relación entre bofedales y agua, el retroceso glacial podrá causar su contracción. Con tres proxis del cambio climático (área de bofedales, influencia glaciar y altitud) se infirió indirectamente cómo éstos pueden afectar a las comunidades vegetales. Las hipótesis fueron 1) que la reducción del área del bofedal podría afectar negativamente la diversidad de plantas - la influencia glaciar y la altitud podrían afectar ésta relación por su efectos en la heterogeneidad ambiental y la diversidad – y 2) que el retroceso glacial puede afectar indirectamente la diversidad a través de cambios en las especies dominantes. Se midió la diversidad α y β aditiva de plantas en 20 bofedales (>4.400 m) de la Cordillera Real (Bolivia). Se encontraron 63 especies (riqueza especifica: 5-22/cuadrante 1m²). Variaciones del área e influencia glacial no se relacionaron con cambios en la vegetación, pero la diversidad fue menor a mayor altitud. Las hojas de Oxychloe andina son más resistentes al estrés ambiental por su mayor masa foliar seca, a diferencia de Distichia spp., indicando que los bofedales dominados por O. andina son más secos. Además tienen más especies que también se pueden encontrar en las laderas. Mientras, las comunidades de Distichia spp. son menos tolerantes al déficit hídrico. Si el retroceso glacial reducirá el agua en las próximas décadas, el bofedal de O. andina podrá ser más abundante a expensas de los de Distichia spp., generando desafíos para la conservación. Habitat management involving conservative biological control could be a good crop pest management option in poor African countries. A survey was conducted from August 2013 to July 2014 in a rainfed lowland region near Pélébina, northern Benin, in order to characterize spatiotemporal lanscape changes and investigate their influence on the main crop pests and their associated natural enemies. The area was mapped mainly regarding crop fields and fallows. Visual observations were recorded and a database was compiled. Major landscape composition changes were noted between rainy and dry seasons, which affected the presence of both pests and natural enemies. Cereals (rice, maize and sorghum) and cotton were grown in the humid season, and then okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) was the dominant vegetable crop in dry season. These modifications impacted fallow abundance throughout the lowland. Different cotton (e.g. Helicoverpa armigera, Dysdercus sp., Zonocerus variegatus) or rice (e.g. Diopsis Iongicornis, D. apicalis) pests were observed during dry season in okra crops. Dry season surveys of Poaceae in two types of fallows ('humid', 'dry') revealed the presence of very few stem borers: only 0.004% of stems sampled were infested by stem borers, with a mean of 1.13 larvae per stem. Known cereal stem borer species such as Busseola fusca, Coniesta ignefusalis, Sesamia calamistis were not clearly identified among these larvae of their diapausing stage and white color. Unexpected pollinators (Hymenoptera Apidae, genus Braunsapis, Ceratina and Xylocopa) and predators (Crabronidae, genus Dasyproctus) were found in the stems. Sweep-net collection of insects in humid fallows allowed us to describe for the first time in Benin seven Diopsidae species (23% of adults bearing Laboulbeniomycetes ectoparasitic fungi). Some of these species were captured in rice fields during rainy season. Parasitoids (adult Chalcidoidae and Ichneumonoidae) were observed during both seasons but their impact on stem borers was hard to determine, even during the rainy season, due to their low abundance and the difficulty of identification. Predators (Reduviidae, Odonata) were found mainly in humid fallows and rice fields. Regarding our observations, we suggest the presence of alternate host crops such as okra during the dry season for rainy season crop pests. Moreover, fallows also had a real ecological role as a habitat resource for many guilds of insects (pollinators, pests, predators). The management of these landscape components should be the focus of a long-term study with the aim of enhancing pest management of rauny season crop pests.

Résumé La région du Nord-Ouest algérien, déjà soumise à une forte péjoration climatique et à une activité anthropique excessive depuis plusieurs décennies, est confrontée aux menaces de la dégradation alarmante de ses ressources naturelles, à l'instar de Pistacia atiantica qui n'occupe aujourd'hui qu'une bien maigre proportion du territoire. Dans ce travail nous avons abordé les caractères écologiques de Pistacia atiantica ainsi que sa dynamique afin d'avoir une idée précise sur son évolution dans ces milieux qui sont à la limite de la rupture écologique. Sur l'aspect cartographique, nous avons élaboré un essai d'une carte de la répartition de cette espèce dans l'Algérie occidentale. La méthode d'étude a été basée sur l'approche phytoécologique à différentes échelles d'observations. Au niveau de la région écologique (à petite échelle) nous avons abordé l'analyse climatique dans son aire biogéographique. Au niveau du secteur écologique (à moyen échelle) nous avons essayé d'établir une carte de l'aire de Pistacia atlantica. Concernant l'étude de la végétation notre propre perception est basée sur I'appnxhe phyto-écologique par comparaison à l'échelle de la station écologique. A très grande échelle nous sommes amenés à effectué l'autoécologie de cette espèce en abordant l'étude d'anatomie et histométrie des feuilles et des rameaux. L'analyse des résultats obtenus nous a révélé de précieux renseignements aussi bien sur l'amplitude écologique, la dynamique et la répartition actuelle de Pistacia atiantica. Abstract The area of Algerian western north, already subjected to a strong climatic rigour and an excessive anthropic activity for several decades, has been confronted with the threats of the alarming degradation of its natural resources, following the example Pistacia atiantica which occupies today only one quite thin proportion of the territory. In this work we approached the ecological characters of Pistacia atiantica as its dynamics in order to have an precise idea on its evolution in these mediums which are with the ecological rupture limit. On the cartographic aspect, we worked out a test of a chart of the distribution ofthis species in Western Algeria. The method of study was based on the phytoecological approach on various scales of observations. On the level of the ecological region (with small scales) we approached the climatic analysis in its bio geographical area. On the level of the ecologica! sector (on average scale) we tried to establish a map of the area of Pistacia atiantica. Regarding the study of the vegetation our own perception is based on the phytoecological approach by comparison on the scale of the ecological station and finaily to very large scales, we are brought the Auto ecology of this species by approaching the study of anatomy and histometry of the sheets and the branches. The analysis of the resuits obtained revealed us invaluable information as well on the ecological amplitude, the dynamics and the current distribution of Pistacia atiantica.
