– Nowadays we often talk about parenthood and disability with reference to families who have a disabled child and need a proper support. Helping parents is important in the process of disability acceptance: they can find social support networks to improve their Quality of Life and decrease their stress level. But we still speak little about the right of people with disabilities to become parents and enjoy the benefit of parenthood in the community. This right was laid down in Article 23 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities also signed by Italy. It says that the States Parties shall take appropriate measures to eliminate discrimination against persons with disabilities in all matters relating to marriage, family, parenthood and relationships, on an equal basis with others. This must be done to ensure their right to marry and find a family on the basis of free and full consent of the intending spouses is recognized. The main problem is not only the legal vacuum, but a cultural, educational, informational vacuum. Only a few studies on this issue are available, so when adults with a disability become parents, they can’t find social support networks and often they must proceed through an obstacle course, sometimes in complete solitude. In view of these considerations, the present article intends to reflect on this issue, noting that great progress has been made in particular in the Seventies, years of global change, but then it slowed down to the present day. Riassunto – Sempre più spesso oggi si discute di genitorialità in rapporto alla disabilità pensando alla presenza in famiglia di un figlio disabile e alla necessità di garantire ai genitori un adeguato supporto. È importante aiutarli durante il difficile processo di accettazione della disabilità e, in seguito, sostenerli attraverso una rete di supporto sociale per assicurare al nucleo famigliare una migliore Qualità della Vita. Ancora poco, però, si discute del diritto delle persone disabili alla genitorialità. Tale diritto è sancito dall’articolo 23 della Convenzione delle Nazioni Unite sui diritti delle persone con disabilità, sottoscritta anche dall’Italia, che sostiene che gli Stati Parti devono adottare efficaci misure per eliminare le discriminazioni nei confronti delle persone disabili in tutto ciò che riguarda il matrimonio, la paternità e le relazioni personali su base di uguaglianza con gli altri. Ciò va fatto in modo da garantire loro il riconoscimento del diritto di sposarsi e fondare una famiglia. In questo ambito in Italia vi è un vuoto non soltanto normativo, ma soprattutto culturale, informativo, educativo, che incide sull’aggiornamento del nostro ordinamento. Gli interventi su questo tema sono ancora pochi e nel concreto quando una persona disabile desidera diventare genitore o sta per diventarlo, non trova un’adeguata rete di supporto ed è costretta a procedere improvvisando, talvolta in un percorso a ostacoli. L’articolo propone una riflessione su questa problematica, constatando come rivoluzionari passi in avanti per l’inclusione siano stati fatti negli anni Settanta, anni di globale contestazione, per poi rallentare ai giorni nostri, fin quasi a giungere oggi a una fase di stallo che, si spera, non diventi involuzione. – A recent Censis survey (an Italian statistical research institute), dated December 2016, shows that 50% of Italian children aged 11-17 has suffered violence or acts of peer aggression. Today, this behaviour is frequent, especially on social media. Some schools have organised numerous meetings to inform parents and students about privacy protection on the internet and about dangers off the social media. These meetings, supported by Postal Police, psychologists, health workers and other professionals involved, have not been successful: despite the urgency of the problem, only a few families were present. Cyberbullying is pervasive and incessant, but it is still not perceived as a problem. Codacons (Coordination of the Associations for the defense of the environment and for the rights of users and consumers) has also organised recently a round table on this topic (Rome, 14th December 2016), where it has been urged the adoption of a draft bill on cyberbullying: this bill, finally approved on 17 May 2017 by Italian Parliament, regulates the issue and it involves the integration of the anti-cyberbullying activities into the schools. Fortunately, many initiatives have been launched to counteract this phenomenon. But it is also important to understand how to teach responsibility to students, for example by improving their digital skills, or their social and civic responsibility. Students are digital natives but they haven't got these skills that are characterized by the quality, not quantity, of social connections. In the light of these considerations, this article aims to analyzes the relationship between education and social media by trying to understand how to teach “digital responsibility” to students. Riassunto – L’ultimo rapporto Censis pubblicato a dicembre 2016 mostra che il 50% dei ragazzi tra gli 11 e i 17 anni ha subito comportamenti aggressivi o violenti da parte dei coetanei. Su Internet questo fenomeno si verifica sempre più spesso e per contrastarlo molte scuole hanno organizzato incontri con l’obiettivo di informare genitori e studenti sulle insidie dei social network e sulla tutela della privacy sul Web. Tali iniziative, che spesso si avvalgono del supporto delle Forze dell’ordine, di psicologi e di operatori Asl, non hanno però avuto successo: la partecipazione delle famiglie è stata bassa rispetto all’urgenza del problema. Si tratta di un fenomeno diffuso ma non ancora sentito. Per questo anche il Codacons ha avviato una tavola rotonda (Roma, 14 dicembre 2016) per capire come permettere alle figure professionali coinvolte, in particolare ai docenti, di intervenire adeguatamente. In tale occasione era stata anche sollecitata l’approvazione di un ddl sul cyberbullismo, che finalmente in data 17 maggio 2017 è stato approvato e che regolamenta il fenomeno inserendo nelle scuole anche una sorta di referente “anti-cyberbulli”. Sono iniziative importanti che si spera possano attutire alcuni dei molteplici pericoli del Web. È necessario però riflettere anche su come i docenti possano intervenire per responsabilizzare maggiormente i ragazzi sull’uso della rete, migliorando ad esempio le loro competenze digitali, sociali e civiche: i ragazzi sono nativi digitali ma non hanno quelle competenze che ogni scuola deve trasmettere e che sono caratterizzate non tanto dalla quantità dell’uso del Web, ma dalla qualità del suo utilizzo. Questo articolo si propone di riflettere sul tema della scuola al tempo dei social media analizzando i dati e le iniziative in proposito e riflettendo sulla possibilità di migliorare le competenze dei nativi digitali per un uso più responsabile del Web. IntroductionDown syndrome (DS) is the most common chromosomal disorder and it is caused by trisomy of chromosome 21 (Hsa21). Subjects with DS show a large heterogeneity of phenotypes and the most constant clinical features present are typical facies and intellectual disability (ID). Several studies demonstrated that trisomy 21 causes an alteration in the metabolic profile, involving among all the one-carbon cycle.MethodsWe performed enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) to identify the concentration of 5 different intermediates of the one-carbon cycle in plasma samples obtained from a total of 164 subjects with DS compared to 54 euploid subjects. We investigated: tetrahydrofolate (THF; DS n = 108, control n = 41), 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-methyl-THF; DS n = 140, control n = 34), 5-formyltetrahydrofolate (5-formyl-THF; DS n = 80, control n = 21), S-adenosyl-homocysteine (SAH; DS n = 94, control n = 20) and S-adenosyl-methionine (SAM; DS n = 24, control n = 15).ResultsResults highlight specific alterations of THF with a median concentration ratio DS/control of 2:3, a decrease of a necessary molecule perfectly consistent with a chromosomal dosage effect. Moreover, SAM and SAH show a ratio DS/control of 1.82:1 and 3.6:1, respectively.DiscussionThe relevance of these results for the biology of intelligence and its impairment in trisomy 21 is discussed, leading to the final proposal of 5-methyl-THF as the best candidate for a clinical trial aimed at restoring the dysregulation of one-carbon cycle in trisomy 21, possibly improving cognitive skills of subjects with DS.

In this work, the essential mineral nutritional elements in cocoa beans, in chocolates at different cocoa percentage (60,70,80 and 90%) and in milk chocolate are evaluated. Dark chocolates are confirmed as an excellent source of magnesium (252.2 mg/100 g) and iron (10.9 mg/100 g): in chocolate containing 90% cocoa, their content corresponds to, respectively, 67.0% and 80.3 of Nutrient Reference Values (NRV) in the European Union. The chocolate containing 90% cocoa is also a good source of zinc (3.5 mg/100 g), which is important for the immune system, and selenium (0.1 mg/100 g). Three main components suitable to explain the mineral concentrations are analyzed by factor analysis. The component 1 can be interpreted as the contribution from the cocoa beans, owing to the mineral characteristics of the soil in which they have grown; the component 2 is mainly due to the manipulation and transformation of the cocoa in chocolate, while the component 3 represents the milk powder.
