Manufacturers of large injection machinery are experiencing a rise in the number of enquiries as potential customers look for cost effectiveness coupled with moulding performance. Several new machine designs are being introduced by some makers seeking to keep their market share. Austria's Engel introduced its DK-2P two platen large machine in 1994. Customer for the first 2,500 t unit was Plastic Omnium of France. Hemscheidt of Germany is also experiencing new interest in its large machines and has delivered a 3,200 t unit to Australia's Everard Industries. A cost-effective plastic moulding technique has been developed which uses vacuum forming technology. Each formed plastic part is finished on a CNC milling machine. Aluminium moulds are produced at relatively low cost. They are filled with plastic using a vacuum and positive pressure. A working prototype can be produced at an estimated cost of 4,000 pounds sterling.

Cannon Polyurethane Technology's JL high-pressure mixing head for polyurethane processing does its job with the help of two coaxial chambers which meters and mixes the components. Cincinnati Milacron used NPE to launch its new Vista Maxima two-platen machine, with a 1,600 t clamp force and Van Dorn Demag demonstrated its 1,600 t parabolic platen version of its Caliber injection-moulding machine.
