Improvements in the hourly rates of injection molding machines were recorded in tandem with higher wages and increased overhead costs. Europe's polyolefin manufacturers failed to report higher profits, despite the steady increase in prices of polyolefin in 1996, due to increasing feedstock costs. Better than expected figures during summer 1996, however, seemingly signal the start of recovery for the industry as declining prices appear to have ceased. Some producers were able to hike prices in September 1996, while some will still try to increase prices further in October 1996. Polypropylene prices gradually declined in the second quarter of 1996 after rising 10-15pfg/kg in the first quarter. Price information and other market trends involving other polyolefins are presented.

The difference in hourly rates for close tolerance injection molding is increasing between high-quality molding and commercial work.
