BACKGROUND: The selection and validation of age- and gender-specific criterion-referenced cut-points for abdominal endurance are still unclear. OBJECTIVE: To stablish normative values for abdominal endurance in adolescents by age and gender using the Bench Trunk Curl-up Test (BTC). Additionally, the reliability of the BTC was analyzed. METHODS: Two hundred and sixteen untrained high school students (104 males - 112 females) were grouped into five age strata. Participants performed the BTC twice with a rest period of 72 h. Descriptive statistics and percentile scores were determined for each gender/age strata. RESULTS: Males showed higher BTC scores than females (males: 90.07 ± 32.65 repetitions; females: 73.43 ± 27.74 repetitions), but no significant differences between age strata nor age * gender interaction were found. Significant differences for the BTC scores between sessions were found (T1 = 72.06 ± 26.28 repetitions; T2 = 81.44 ± 31.27 repetitions). The ICC was 0.82, whereas the typical error was 17.2%. CONCLUSIONS: Gender, but not age, is an important factor when abdominal endurance is compared between adolescents. Finally, the BTC is a reliable test, supporting the findings of this study. However, an extensive familiarization period to reduce the learning effect is necessary.

Introduction: Multielectrode mapping catheters (MEMC) allow the performance of high resolution and density maps but the utility of these catheters in ventricular tachycardia (VT) ablation procedures has not been yet widely described. We sought to evaluate the utility of a MEMC during scar-related VT ablation procedures. Methods: Eighty-five consecutive scar-related VT ablation procedures were performed in 81 patients. In the first 26 procedures, a standard 3.5-mm tip linear catheter was employed for endocardial/epicardial mapping (control group). In the following 59 procedures mapping was performed with aMEMC(study group). Procedural time, LV endocardial and epicardial mapping time, complications and ablation outcomes were compared. Results: The use of the MEMC resulted in a significant shortening of the endocardial and epicardial mapping times (38 +/- 15 minutes vs. 56 +/- 24 minutes for endocardial LV mapping in the study and control group, respectively, P = 0.001; and 28 +/- 9 minutes vs 41 +/- 16 minutes, for epicardial mapping, P = 0.011) as well as the total procedural time (177 +/- 53 minutes vs. 206 +/- 50 minutes, respectively, P = 0.02). The mapping density was also significantly increased in the study group (mean endocardial LV points: 2,143 +/- 1,419 vs. 485 +/- 174, for the study and control group, respectively, P < 0.0001), specially within the scar area (49.6 +/- 34 points/cm(2) vs. 8.4 +/- 4.6 points/cm(2), P < 0.001). No differences in acute and long-term follow-up outcomes were observed. Conclusions: High-density multielectrode mapping is associated with a significant reduction of procedural and mapping times and a significant increase of mapping density without affecting outcomes in patients with scar-relatedVT.

With the combination of this two aims, FSCs with double efficiency than “first generation” FSCs and with less photodegradation have been achieved.

Si bien el paradigma del asiento inestable ha sido utilizado con éxito para valorar la estabilidad del tronco en poblaciones patológicas, éste no ha sido utilizado para estudiar la influencia de la práctica deportiva sobre la estabilización activa del tronco (EAT). El objetivo del estudio fue analizar el efecto de la especialización deportiva sobre la EAT en judocas y piragüistas, ya que éstos practican deportes que exigen una alta implicación de los sistemas de estabilización raquídea. Seis judocas, seis piragüistas y seis sujetos físicamente activos realizaron una batería de test estáticos y dinámicos de estabilidad sedente. La EAT fue valorada mediante el análisis del desplazamiento del centro de presiones registrado con plataforma de fuerzas. Asimismo se midió la fuerza y resistencia muscular del tronco mediante dinamometría isocinética para analizar la relación de estas variables sobre la EAT. Los piragüistas mostraron un mayor rendimiento en las pruebas de estabilidad dinámica del tronco en sedestación, posiblemente debido a los esfuerzos que realizan habitualmente para mantener el equilibrio sobre la piragua. No se encontraron diferencias de fuerza o resistencia entre los grupos de deportistas, por lo que estas cualidades podrían no tener una influencia importante sobre el rendimiento en los test de estabilidad analizados. This concept is called “media façade” and is associated with over-dimensional screens with the purpose of decoration and/or advertising. The textile architecture designs based on ETFE polymer (a co-polymer of ethylene and tetrafluoroethylene) is especially suitable for “media façade” concept due to the use of huge façade areas. However, the huge number of LEDs devices required for lighting façade is limiting this upward trend due to the high energy consumption requirements and the corresponding high building management cost. In the present work, an innovative multi-functional photovoltaic (PV) flexible device based on silicon thin film solar cells on ETFE has been proposed. This multi-functional module represents a building element and provides the energy and illuminated functions through the PV and LED devices integrations, respectively. In this way, the energy generated by the PV element along the day will be storage on conventional batteries and provided to the illumination devices at night. The final objective is to reduce costs in the high energetic demand requested, opening new architectural façade lighting possibilities.
