Mammography is an imaging modality that is widely perceived to be of use only in women for the detection and diagnosis of breast pathologies. Here, we present a pictorial essay on the mammographic spectrum of male breast pathologies.

Aim: The aim of this paper is to present baseline imaging data and the improvement that was achieved by the participating centers after applying practice-specific interventions that were identified during the course of a multicentric multinational research coordinated project., Introduction: The incidence and mortality rates from breast cancer are rising worldwide and particularly rapidly across the countries with limited resources. Due to lack of awareness and screening options it is usually detected at a later stage. Breast cancer screening programs and even clinical services on breast cancer have been neglected in such countries particularly due to lack of available equipment, funds, organizational structure and quality criteria., Materials and Methods: A harmonized form was designed in order to facilitate uniformity of data collection. Baseline data such as type of equipment, number of exams, type and number of biopsy procedures, stage of cancer at detection were collected from 10 centers (9 countries: Bosnia-Herzegovina, Costa Rica, Egypt, India, North Macedonia, Pakistan, Slovenia, Turkey, Uganda) were collected. Local practices were evaluated for good practice and specific interventions such as training of professionals and quality assurance programs were identified. The centers were asked to recapture the data after a 2-year period to identify the impact of the interventions., Results: The data showed increase in the number of training of relevant professionals, positive changes in the mammography practice and image guided interventions. All the centers achieved higher levels of success in the implementation of the quality assurance procedures., Conclusion: The study has encountered different levels of breast imaging practice in terms of expertise, financial and human resources, infrastructure and awareness. The most common challenges were the lack of appropriate quality assurance programs and lack of trained skilled personnel and lack of high-quality equipment. The project was able to create higher levels of breast cancer awareness, collaboration amongst participating centers and professionals. The authors report a case of hemiagenesis of the left thyroid lobe indicated on Tc-99m pertechnetate scan and later confirmed on ultrasonography. The patient was clinically hypothyroid with a right-sided goiter. The cytopathologic diagnosis was made by fine-needle aspiration cytologic analysis, which indicated chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis in the right lobe of the thyroid gland. Later the patient's condition was stabilized with thyroxine replacement therapy. The association of hemiagenesis of the thyroid with chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis has not been reported in the literature.

Tc-99m Infecton imaging was used to examine patients thought to have pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) based on clinical and sonographic findings. Twenty-one patients with PID had Tc-99m Infecton scans. Eleven patients underwent a second radionuclide scan after 1 month of antibiotic treatment. The diagnosis of PID was confirmed by laparoscopy in one patient who was later found to have a tubercular infection. In the remaining patients, the diagnosis was based on uterine tenderness, fever and lower abdominal pain that responded to antibiotics, and ultrasound findings. These patients had infection of the uterus, fallopian tubes, the cul-de-sac, or all of these. The Tc-99m Infecton scan appears to be useful in the diagnosis of possible PID and is recommended after a complete course of antibiotics for monitoring treatment response.

Congenital tuberculosis is a rare disease. The non-specific nature of presenting signs and symptoms (because of the lack of host response) and the fatal outcome in the absence of early therapy all underscore the importance of early diagnosis and treatment in infants. Recognition requires awareness that tuberculosis at this age has manifestations not found in older children. Here a case of congenital tuberculosis is presented, where changes were confined only to the thorax. Tuberculosis in the mother could be diagnosed only retrospectively.

Mediastinal lymphadenitis as the only presentation of adult tuberculosis is rare. Rarer still is dysphagia as the only presenting symptom of mediastinal tuberculous lymphadenitis. Here is the report of such a case.

Primary hydatid cyst of the brain in adults is rare and can pose various diagnostic problems. Multiplicity of these cysts is even rarer. The most important diagnostic tool is computed tomography scanning of the brain. Hydatid cyst should be included in the differential diagnosis when a cystic brain lesion is found in patients from an endemic echinococcosis area.

A 24-year-old man with congenital bladder diverticula leading to bilateral hydronephrosis diagnosed on radionuclide scintigraphy is described. Diagnostic findings of sonogram and CT scan are also mentioned.

How often do we consider a differential diagnosis of diaphragmatic hernia in cases of failed thoracocentesis? How many of us remember that omental fat in the chest can behave in a fluid manner, layering along the chest wall, resulting in the misinterpretation of a decubitus view. A case is presented of a diaphragmatic hernia that was missed on conventional chest radiographs resulting in CT having to be performed. A high degree of suspicion is mandatory to reach the final diagnosis. Radiographs could be used more effectively and CT avoided.
