Abstract

We measured the Coulomb dissociation of 16O into 4He and 12C within the FAIR Phase-0 program at GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung Darmstadt, Germany. From this we will extract the photon dissociation cross section 16O(α,γ)12C, which is the time reversed reaction to 12C(α,γ)16O. With this indirect method, we aim to improve on the accuracy of the experimental data at lower energies than measured so far. The expected low cross section for the Coulomb dissociation reaction and close magnetic rigidity of beam and fragments demand a high precision measurement. Hence, new detector systems were built and radical changes to the R3B setup were necessary to cope with the high-intensity 16O beam. All tracking detectors were designed to let the unreacted 16O ions pass, while detecting the 12C and 4He.

Abstract

Transfer reactions have always been of great importance for nuclear structure and reaction mechanism studies. So far, in multinucleon transfer studies, proton pickup channels have been completely identified in atomic and mass numbers at energies close to the Coulomb barrier only in few cases. We measured the multinucleon transfer reactions in the 40Ar+208Pb system near the Coulomb barrier, by employing the PRISMA magnetic spectrometer. By using the most neutron-rich stable 40Ar beam we could populate, besidesneutron pickup and proton stripping channels, also neutron stripping and proton pickup channels. Comparison ofcross sections between different systems with the 208Pb target and with projectiles going from neutron-poor to neutron-rich nuclei, as well as between the data and GRAZING calculations, was carried out.Finally, recent results concerning the measurement of the excitation function from the Coulomb barrier to far below for the 92Mo+54Fe system, where both proton stripping and pickup channels were populated with similar strength, will be discussed.

Abstract

For the first time in an application to nuclear astrophysics, a process induced by the unstable 5He = (4He-n) nucleus, the 3He+5He→2α reaction, has been studied through the Trojan Horse Method (THM). For that purpose, the quasi-free (QF) contribution of the 9Be(3He, αα)4He reaction was selected at E(3He) = 4 MeV incident energy. The reaction was studied in a kinematically complete experiment following a recent publication (Spitaleri et al. in Eur Phys J A 56:18, 2020), where for the quasi free contribution the momentum distribution between α and 5He particle cluster in the 9Be nucleus in the ground state have been extracted.

Abstract

The differential cross sections of the first two proton groups of the 12C(3He,p)14N reaction were determined within the 3He energy range 1.34–2.86 MeV and for backward angles from 107o107o to 164o with 2o steps using two double sided silicon strip detectors. The results are presented in graphical form and they are also given as tables in the Appendix. Aiming to assist in the enrichment of the reaction database and the improvement of the differential cross section data quality, the determined cross sections were benchmarked with the measurement of thick target reaction yields from a pure glassy carbon target at two 3He energies, 2.0 and 2.7 MeV. Furthermore, the data were accompanied by R-Matrix theory calculations, allowing for cross section data interpolation with sufficient accuracy.

Abstract

U ovom radu proučavane su nuklearne reakcije izazvane snopom litijevih iona 7Li, energije 16 MeV na metama 12C, 7LiF i 6LiF. Izlazne čestice detektirane su dvostranim silicijskim vrpčastim detektorom (Micron Semiconductor tip W1 debljine 1000 μm) čije je središte bilo postavljeno na kutu od 21,8° u odnosu na smjer ulaznog snopa. Iz prikupljenih podataka rekonstruirani su energijski spektri pobuđenja jezgara 6,7Li, 9,10Be, 12C, 19F i 15N te su identificirana pobuđena stanja u rasponu energija 0-10 MeV. Detekcijom izlaznih čestica identificirani su procesi raspršenja iona 7Li na jezgrama meta 7Li, 12C, 19F i 27Al, elastično raspršenje (6Li(7Li, 6Li)7Li) sa detektiranim ionima 7Li i 6Li te procesi prijenosa tritona 7Li(7Li, α)10Be, 6Li(7Li, α)9Be, 12C(7Li, α)15N. The Diploma thesis examines nuclear reactions studied on multiple targets (12C, 7LiF, 6LiF) induced by the 7Li beam at energy of 16 MeV. The emitted particles were detected with double sided silicon strip detector (Micron Semiconductor type W1, 1000 μm of thickness) whose center was positioned at an angle of 21,8°to incident beam. Collected data was used for excitation energy spectra reconstruction of 6,7Li, 9,10Be, 12C, 19F and 15N nuclei. Based on the data, excitation states were identified in energy range of 0-10 MeV. Detected nuclear reactions include elastic and inelastic scattering of 7Li on 7Li, 12C, 19F and 27Al, detection of scattered 6Li from 6Li(7Li, 6Li)7Li reaction and triton cluster transfer reactions 7Li(7Li, α)10Be, 6Li(7Li, α)9Be, 12C(7Li, α)15N.
