Abstract

Light incident upon materials can induce changes in their electrical conductivity, a phenomenon referred to as photoresistance. In semiconductors, the photoresistance is negative, as light-induced promotion of electrons across the band gap enhances the number of charge carriers participating in transport. In superconductors, the photoresistance is positive because of the destruction of the superconducting state, whereas in normal metals it is vanishing. Here we report a qualitative deviation from the standard behavior in metallic graphene. We show that Dirac electrons exposed to continuous wave (CW) terahertz (THz) radiation can be thermally decoupled from the lattice by 50~K which activates hydrodynamic electron transport. In this regime, the resistance of graphene constrictions experiences a decrease caused by the THz-driven superballistic flow of correlated electrons. We analyze the dependencies of the negative photoresistance on the carrier density, and the radiation power and show that our superballistic devices operate as sensitive phonon-cooled bolometers and can thus offer a picosecond-scale response time. Beyond their fundamental implications, our findings underscore the practicality of electron hydrodynamics in designing ultra-fast THz sensors and electron thermometers., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

The paper deals with the theoretical consideration of surface plasmon-polaritons in the graphene monolayer, embedded into dielectric with spatially separated gain and losses. It is demonstrated, that presence of gain and losses in the system leads to the formation of additional mode of graphene surface plasmon-polaritons, which does not have its counterpart in the conservative system. When the gain and losses are mutually balanced, the position of exceptional point -- transition point between unbroken and broken $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry -- can be effectively tuned by graphene's doping. In the case of unbalanced gain and losses the spectrum of surface plasmon-polaritons contains spectral singularity, whose frequency is also adjustable through the electrostatic gating of graphene., Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyze the features of the functioning of the abbreviation in the military sphere. The objectives of the study are to determine the role and specifics of the use of abbreviations in official documents of the military sphere; conducting a survey among cadets of a military university and identifying the features of the use of abbreviations in the professional jargon of cadets. The authors claim that there is an active penetration of abbreviations from the language of official papers into the oral speech of cadets. When using an abbreviation in the jargon of cadets, elements of a language game are highlighted, methods and techniques of its creation are studied. The practical significance of the research in the possibility of applying its results in the process of teaching linguistic disciplines at a university is lied.

18. Spatial injustice in the formation of land use territories in united communities

Abstract

The author revealed the injustices in the territories formation of the united territorial communities (UTC) under the local self-government reform, which are manifested in different, uneven volumes of their land use and the resource basis in general for local socio-economic development. The methodological approach used by the authorities in determining the capacity of united communities in their formation (in terms of compliance with the criteria – the area and the population density), led to the fact that in rural areas with low population density they had to form large UTCs to reach specific parameters by population. The hypothesis that territorially large UTCs are capable is ambiguous: on the one hand, land tenure and land use is a resource for socio-economic development of communities, on the other – in a large area the cost of providing essential services to the population in remote villages increases together with the administrative and other costs. Paper proves that large-scale rural UTCs should become objects of the state support as the “rural areas in unfavourable conditions” under the State Strategy for Regional Development for 2021–2027. The author justifies injustices in the centralization of powers on disposal of land resources. The land decentralization as a transfer of relevant powers to UTC local governments will be finally completed, according to the Decree of the President of Ukraine “On some measures to accelerate reforms in the field of land relations” № 449 from 15.10.2020, which will contribute to orderliness in this area and filling local budgets. It is also advisable within the UTCs to give internal communities the right to dispose of their economic territory’s land resources in these communities’ interests. The paper shows discriminatory aspects of administrative reformatting of 120 voluntarily formed and functioning UTCs, according to the Government’s long-term plans for 2020: by recognizing them as insufficiently capable, they should join other communities or unite into larger UTCs.

Abstract

Magnetic and electronic properties of NaTiSi$_2$O$_6$ in low temperature phase were studied in the framework of the LDA+U approximation. We stress that neglecting correlation effects in LSDA calculations one obtains not only several times smaller value of the band gap, but also fails to describe magnetic properties of NaTiSi$_2$O$_6$. Our LDA+U results confirm formation of singlet Ti-Ti dimers in low temperature phase of NaTiSi$_2$O$_6$ driven by corresponding orbital ordering [J. Phys. Soc. Abstract

With using of point-dipole model the theoretical calculations of main refractive indices and orientation of indicatrix of 18 minerals are performed. The feature of studied minerals is the statistically disordered arrangement of CO3, SO4, SO2, PO4 groups and also separate ions. The optical characters of uniaxial minerals and orientation of indicatrix of orthorhombic and monoclinic minerals, obtained by results of calculations, agree with experimental definitions., Comment: 9 pages, 4 tables
