Background. There is no sufficient literature on the effect of post location on endodontically treated premolar teeth with 2 roots. Objectives. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of fiber post location on fracture resistance and failure mode of endodontically treated premolars with 2 roots. Material and methods. Fifty extracted maxillary first premolars with 2 roots were divided randomly into 5 groups. Group 1 was comprised of sound teeth, which received only metal crowns (control). Teeth from groups 2, 3, 4, and 5 were decoronated 2 mm above the cementoenamel junction (CEJ) and were endodontically treated. No post was placed in group 2 teeth. Teeth from groups 3, 4 and 5 were given a fiber post placed in the buccal canal, palatal canal, and both buccal and palatal canals, respectively. All teeth in groups 2, 3, 4, and 5 were built up with composite and full coverage metal crowns. A compressive static load was applied at an angle of 25 degrees to the crowns with a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min, until fracture. Results. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed significant differences among the groups (p = 0.002). A post hoc test showed significantly lower fracture resistance of group 4 compared to group 5 (p = 0.011). Furthermore, group 2 had significantly less fracture resistance compared to group 1 (p = 0.021) and group 5 (p = 0.002). According to Fisher's exact test, different post locations are non-significantly associated with fracture mode (p = 0.256). Conclusions. Fiber post location has a significant effect on fracture resistance of severely damaged, endodontically treated maxillary premolars with 2 roots. However, post placement in the palatal root is preferred, as it maintains the restorability of the tooth.

The authors collected posts with geo-tags from Sina Weibo and conducted the study based on about a thousand location-based questions. Their results reveal unique characteristics of location-based questions by analyzing what people ask, how they ask, why they ask, and the context when asking. Location-based questions are closely related to people’s offline activities. Spatial restriction, subjectivity, interactivity, and propagation are the main characteristics that people value for choosing social networks to ask location-based questions. Padang is one of the most vulnerable area of earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia. Therefore, it is necessary to have a good strategic planning about disaster logistics system and contingency planning. Contigency planning have three factors, human resources, transportation, and inventory. The problems that happened at distribution of disaster logistical buffer between distribution centre (BPBD Padang) and evacuation post are needed a buffer post (assistant post). The use of appropriate technology is one important aspect in improving the quality of human life. The common technology will be used in this study, is also one of the use of technology that is useful to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the determination of the post when a disaster occurs. This is a second year of research that apply the algorithm of the first year into implementation. Expected result of performance is an information system that can be used together to search the best post when a disaster occurs. Implementation is expected to facilitate the distribution of aid and speed recovery following natural disasters.

Backside damage of the polyethylene in TKA is a potential source of debris. The location of the tibial post in posterior-stabilized implants may influence micromotion, and thus affect backside damage, as may surface roughness.We used implant retrieval analysis to (1) examine if there were differences in backside damage among three modern posterior-stabilized implants attributable to variable surface roughness; (2) determine if the location of damage on the tibial post affected the pattern of backside damage; and (3) determine if demographics influenced backside damage.We identified 403 posterior-stabilized tibial retrieved inserts (147 NexGen(®), 152 Optetrak(®), 104 Genesis(®) II). The damage on the surfaces of the tibial posts was previously graded. The backside of the inserts (divided into quadrants) were scored for evidence of damage. The total quadrant damage was compared for each implant group, the relationship between post face damage and location of damage on the backside was determined for each implant group, and total backside damage was compared among the three implant groups.No correlation was found between the location of damage on the post and location of damage on the backside of the implant for any of the three groups. The Genesis(®) II polyethylene implants, which articulate with a highly polished tibial tray, showed a significantly lower total backside damage score (p0.01) when compared with the other two implant groups. The Genesis(®) II and Optetrak(®) showed significantly more damage in the posterior quadrants of the implants (p0.01) when compared with the anterior quadrants. A linear regression analysis revealed that lower tibial tray surface roughness was correlated with decreased damage.An implant design with a highly polished tibial tray was associated with decreased backside damage. However, tibial post design and location did not influence the location of backside damage.Our study showed that a highly polished tibial tray was associated with decreased damage to the backside of polyethylene inserts independent of post design and location. These findings should be taken into consideration when new generations of implants are designed.

This article reports on a study of the deflections of differently-shaped metal road guardrail posts. The authors analyzed the deformation processes of the sigma(Σ)-shape and double T-shape metal posts of guardrails, using a mathematical model. The analysis used one-dimensional first-order finite elements, and considered elastic deformations, as well as the effect of soil on the buried post section of the guardrail. The deflections of Σ-shape and double T-shape metal posts caused by the impact of a motor vehicle moving at varying speed are then determined. The authors found that the deformation of the sigma-shape post is not so heavy compared to the double T-shape post deformation. This property of the sigma-shape post was found irrespective of the post location (on the road shoulder or on a bridge) or the motor vehicle’s speed at the moment of collision. The authors conclude that guardrails with high deformation behaviors, such as the sigma-shape post, are most effective in keeping travel along the longitudinal axis of the guardrail and/or fully stopping the vehicle.

Previous research has demonstrated the efficacy of road-side posts in providing long term delineation information. In order to explore the role of this type of cue further, an experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of different road-post configurations on the judgements of curve direction by subjects. Specifically, the effect of positioning posts on the inside only, outside only, or both sides of the curve and the influence of post frequency along the road were examined. A range of road contours and distances to the commencement of curves were included in the experimental stimuli. Static views of rural road scenes were presented to subjects in a laboratory situation, and on each trial they were required to make speeded judgements of whether a right-hand or left-hand curve was presented. The results showed that road-side posts provide significantly better information if they are presented on the outside rather than the inside of the curve. Overall, posts on both sides of the road did not result in faster judgements than posts only on the outside of the curve. Subjects performed better in the higher-frequency post condition than in the lower frequency condition, but there was no marked interaction between the post frequency and post location variables. The findings have implications for the cost-benefits of rural road delineation schemes.
