Abstract

Understanding the mechanisms involved in the growth and decomposition of methane hydrates (MHs) is currently an urgent issue since they are essential in improving the global climate and future energy supplies. As a result, many scientists and researchers around the world are looking into and studying this critical topic. The objective of the presented work is to illustrate the thermo-physical processes of MHs decomposition in porous media based on a one-dimensional model throughout a multiphase flow. The thermodynamic equilibrium, which actually happens between temperature and pressure (P-T) in the hydrate stability region. The mathematical model was presented and solved by using the implicit finite differences technique under the initial and boundary conditions. After the Jacobin matrix was formed, the system of nonlinear algebraic equations was solved by using the Newton-Raphson methodology. Within the framework of this study, we take into consideration the Buckley-Leverett problem of incompressible fluid displacement. Our approach and computations are predicated on the assumption that there are constant heat conditions without hydrate formation anywhere in the whole computational domain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The work is devoted to numerical modeling of the processes of heat and mass transfer of a two-phase fluid in the environment of a production well, which is necessary for monitoring the development of fractured-porous reservoirs. This work proposes an efficient approach to constructing a solution to the problem. To solve the problem, a model of the "double medium" type is used, where the pore part of the reservoir is considered as the first medium, and the system of natural fractures is considered as the second medium. For the resulting mathematical model, the difference schemes with time weights are constructed based on the algorithm of splitting by physical processes, which ensure the correctness and consistency of fluxes in the fracture system and the pore reservoir. In the numerical solution, the approximations of differential operators obtained in the framework of the finite difference method are used. For the parallel implementation of the developed numerical approach, the domain decomposition method and the matrix sweep algorithm are chosen. The program implementation is made using the MPI standard. Computational experiments are carried out, the results of which confirm the effectiveness of the developed numerical algorithm and its parallel implementation. In numerical experiments, the distributions of pressure and temperature near an operating production well are obtained, on the basis of which it is possible to adjust the operation of wells in order to increase production. Abstract

The method of numerical simulation based on the splitting by physical processes of gas-hydrodynamic processes, which occur during the dissociation of gas hydrates in a porous medium, is described. In this paper, a coupled discrete model of a two-component (H2O,CH4) three-phase (water, methane, hydrate) filtration uid dynamics and two-phase processes in a thawed zone with absence of gas hydrates in thermodynamic equilibrium has been developed, by using the splitting by physical processes as a valid assumption. The obtained split model is differentially equivalent to the discrete initial balance equations of the system (conservation of the mass components of the uids and the total energy of the system), written in divergent form. Such an approach to create completely conservative difference schemes in the studied uid-hydrate medium requires the introduction of a special free-volume nonlinear approximation of grid functions over time, which depends on the volume fraction in the pores occupied by uids, and is simple to implement. The direct unsplit use of the studied system for the purposes of determining the dynamics of variables and constructing the implicit difference scheme required for calculations of filtering processes with large time steps is difficult. The paper also presents the method of coupled solutions of systems of equations describing the processes in various fields, each of which is characterized by its own set of coexisting phases, and the coordination of computational schemes for them is not an automatic process. In the results of the calculations, the volumetric three-phase phase transitions were numerically investigated using a single calculation with a variable number of phases region of the entire plane of the P and T parameters. Using the example of the Messoyakha's gas hydrate deposit, the local processes of technogenic depressive impact directly near the wells on the dynamics of the gas distribution of gas hydrates thawing and formation of thawed two-phase zones were studied.
