1. Patello-femoral synostosis: A rare complication after total knee arthroplasty: A case report

Abstract: Introduction: A painful, stiff knee after TKA affects the outcome. Various causes have been identified, including heterotrophic ossification (HO), but there is no documented evidence of bone formation between the patella and intercondylar notch of the distal femur in HO. Case report: We present the case of an elderly gentleman who presented with a painful stiff knee after revision TKA due to extensive HO leading to the formation of a bone bridge between the patella and femur. He was treated with repeat revision TKA using a rotating hinge prosthesis and achieved a painless, well-functioning knee at 3 years follow-up. Conclusion: Severe HO following TKA necessitating revision surgery is rare. In most cases, HO is minor and confined to the anterior distal femur without causing any functional compromise. In some cases, it can be widespread and affect all the tissues around the knee joint, causing severe restriction of movement.

2. Influence of demonetization on various sectors of the Indian economy

Abstract: Background: India demonetized the currency in November 2016, scrapping 86.9 percent of the currency in circulation. This policy disrupted most economic activities because India was predominantly a cash economy. Purpose: The study aims to analyze the impact of demonetization on the informal-formal sector and the Indian stock markets, where investment reflects investors' confidence. Another purpose is to know the usefulness of demonetization in the proliferation of digitalization. Study design/methodology/approach: The study incorporates primary data to determine the impact on informal and formal workers' income and the acceptance of digitalization in rural-urban areas in Faridabad, Haryana. A survey was conducted, and samples for informal-formal workers and rural-urban households were collected and analyzed using the F test and the ANOVA model using an independent dummy or qualitative variables. The secondary data of the Indian stock market were empirically tested and forecasted using the Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (ARCH) model. Finding/Conclusions: The empirical analysis reveals that after demonetization, informal workers' earnings dropped significantly, and there is a substantial income disparity between informal-formal workers. A wide gap persists in adopting digital transactions due to low awareness of digital instruments in rural areas compared to urban areas. On the contrary, no significant impact is noticed in the Indian stock market as the forecasted value of shares trading depicts positive growth. The study identifies the gaps in policy implementation. It exposes the implementation of macroeconomic policies ensuring the protection of the interest and livelihood of economically vulnerable populations. The spread of awareness towards electronic transactions may help to promote digitalization Limitations/future research: The study is limited to a few areas. Hence, the scope of future research rests on macro-level data where comparison could be conducted between rural and urban areas across various states in India.

3. Impact of Digital Literacy, Use of AI Tools and Peer Collaboration on AI Assisted Learning: Perceptions of the University Students

Abstract: The technology-supported education systems seamlessly integrated throughout the globe in response to the demands of post COVID-19 pandemic. The swift developments of the digital tools with Artificial Intelligence (AI) support are also readily diffused among the educational communities. This research paper investigates the synergistic impact of digital literacy, the incorporation of AI tools, and Peer Supported Collaborative Learning (PSCL) on the learning perceptions of university students. The research aims to discern the implications of these technological and social facets on students' attitudes towards AI assisted learning process. Structured questionnaire-based survey among the University students were done for this descriptive research. 409 responses collected were analysed with SPSS, Excel and Process Macro. It is found that the students' Digital Literacy, Use of AI tools and PSCL on AI assisted learning were positively correlated. The partial mediatory path through the PSCL and AI tool usage has a significant positive influence on students learning process. The insights gathered from this study can inform educators, policymakers, and institutions on optimizing the amalgamation of digital literacy, AI tools and PSCL to enhance the contemporary learning environment. As universities navigate the digital age, this research provides a nuanced understanding of the dynamics shaping students' perceptions, offering valuable insights into the multifaceted aspects of AI influencing the educational landscape.

4. A Screening Method for Power System Inertia Zones Identification

Abstract: The heterogeneous distribution of frequency support from dispersed renewable generation sources results in varying inertia within the system. The effects of disturbances exhibit non-uniform variations contingent upon the disturbance's location and the affected region's topology and inertia. A screening method for inertia-zone identification is proposed considering the combination of network structure and generator inertia distribution that will aid in comprehending the response of nodes to disturbances. The nodes' dynamic nodal weight (DNW) is defined using maximal entropy random walk that defines each node's spreading power dynamics. Further, a modified weighted kmeans++ clustering technique is proposed using DNW to obtain the equivalent spatial points of each zone and the system to parameterize the inertia status of each zone. The impact of the proposed scheme is justified by simulating a modified IEEE 39 bus system with doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) integration in the real-time digital simulator.

5. A Comparative Study of Distributed Feedback Optimizing Control Architectures

Abstract: This paper considers the problem of steady-state real-time optimization (RTO) of interconnected systems with a common constraint that couples several units, for example, a shared resource. Such problems are often studied under the context of distributed optimization, where decisions are made locally in each subsystem, and are coordinated to optimize the overall performance. Here, we use distributed feedback-optimizing control framework, where the local systems and the coordinator problems are converted into feedback control problems. This is a powerful scheme that allows us to design feedback control loops, and estimate parameters locally, as well as provide local fast response, allowing different closed-loop time constants for each local subsystem. This paper provides a comparative study of different distributed feedback optimizing control architectures using two case studies. The first case study considers the problem of demand response in a residential energy hub powered by a common renewable energy source, and compares the different feedback optimizing control approaches using simulations. The second case study experimentally validates and compares the different approaches using a lab-scale experimental rig that emulates a subsea oil production network, where the common resource is the gas lift that must be optimally allocated among the wells. %The pros and cons of the different approaches are discussed., Comment: Accepted to IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology

6. Self-Consistency Preference Optimization

Abstract: Self-alignment, whereby models learn to improve themselves without human annotation, is a rapidly growing research area. However, existing techniques often fail to improve complex reasoning tasks due to the difficulty of assigning correct rewards. An orthogonal approach that is known to improve correctness is self-consistency, a method applied at inference time based on multiple sampling in order to find the most consistent answer. In this work, we extend the self-consistency concept to help train models. We thus introduce self-consistency preference optimization (ScPO), which iteratively trains consistent answers to be preferred over inconsistent ones on unsupervised new problems. We show ScPO leads to large improvements over conventional reward model training on reasoning tasks such as GSM8K and MATH, closing the gap with supervised training with gold answers or preferences, and that combining ScPO with standard supervised learning improves results even further. 7. Scalar Spin Chirality Hall Effect

Abstract: The scalar spin chirality, which characterizes the fundamental unit of noncoplanar spin structures, plays an important role in rich chiral physics of magnetic materials. In particular, the intensive research efforts over the past two decades have demonstrated that the scalar spin chirality is the source of various novel Hall transports in solid-state systems, offering a primary route to bring about chiral phenomena in condensed matter physics. However, in all of the previous studies, the scalar spin chirality has been given as a stationary background, serving only a passive role in the transport properties of materials. It remains an open question whether or not the scalar spin chirality itself can exhibit a Hall-type transport. In this work, we show that the answer is yes: The scalar spin chirality is Hall-transported in Kagome ferromagnets and antiferromagnets under an external bias, engendering a phenomenon which we dub the scalar spin chirality Hall effect. Notably, this effect is present even in the absence of any spin-orbit coupling. The analytical theory for the scalar spin chirality Hall effect is corroborated by atomistic spin simulations. Our findings call for the need to lift the conventional assumption that the scalar spin chirality is a passive background in order to discover the active roles of the scalar spin chirality in transport properties., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures

8. Exploring Large Language Models for Specialist-level Oncology Care

Abstract: Large language models (LLMs) have shown remarkable progress in encoding clinical knowledge and responding to complex medical queries with appropriate clinical reasoning. However, their applicability in subspecialist or complex medical settings remains underexplored. In this work, we probe the performance of AMIE, a research conversational diagnostic AI system, in the subspecialist domain of breast oncology care without specific fine-tuning to this challenging domain. To perform this evaluation, we curated a set of 50 synthetic breast cancer vignettes representing a range of treatment-naive and treatment-refractory cases and mirroring the key information available to a multidisciplinary tumor board for decision-making (openly released with this work). We developed a detailed clinical rubric for evaluating management plans, including axes such as the quality of case summarization, safety of the proposed care plan, and recommendations for chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery and hormonal therapy. To improve performance, we enhanced AMIE with the inference-time ability to perform web search retrieval to gather relevant and up-to-date clinical knowledge and refine its responses with a multi-stage self-critique pipeline. We compare response quality of AMIE with internal medicine trainees, oncology fellows, and general oncology attendings under both automated and specialist clinician evaluations. In our evaluations, AMIE outperformed trainees and fellows demonstrating the potential of the system in this challenging and important domain. We further demonstrate through qualitative examples, how systems such as AMIE might facilitate conversational interactions to assist clinicians in their decision making. However, AMIE's performance was overall inferior to attending oncologists suggesting that further research is needed prior to consideration of prospective uses.

9. Distance from a Finsler Submanifold to its Cut Locus and the Existence of a Tubular Neighborhood

Abstract: In this article we prove that for a closed, not necessarily compact, submanifold $N$ of a possibly non-complete Finsler manifold $(M, F)$, the cut time map is always positive. As a consequence, we prove the existence of a tubular neighborhood of such a submanifold. When $N$ is compact, it then follows that there exists an $\epsilon > 0$ such that the distance between $N$ and its cut locus $\mathrm{Cu}(N)$ is at least $\epsilon$. This was originally proved by B. Alves and M. A. Javaloyes (Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 2019). We have given an alternative, rather geometric proof of the same, which is novel even in the Riemannian setup. 10. A Novel Breast Ultrasound Image Augmentation Method Using Advanced Neural Style Transfer: An Efficient and Explainable Approach

Abstract: Clinical diagnosis of breast malignancy (BM) is a challenging problem in the recent era. In particular, Deep learning (DL) models have continued to offer important solutions for early BM diagnosis but their performance experiences overfitting due to the limited volume of breast ultrasound (BUS) image data. Further, large BUS datasets are difficult to manage due to privacy and legal concerns. Hence, image augmentation is a necessary and challenging step to improve the performance of the DL models. However, the current DL-based augmentation models are inadequate and operate as a black box resulting lack of information and justifications about their suitability and efficacy. Additionally, pre and post-augmentation need high-performance computational resources and time to produce the augmented image and evaluate the model performance. Thus, this study aims to develop a novel efficient augmentation approach for BUS images with advanced neural style transfer (NST) and Explainable AI (XAI) harnessing GPU-based parallel infrastructure. We scale and distribute the training of the augmentation model across 8 GPUs using the Horovod framework on a DGX cluster, achieving a 5.09 speedup while maintaining the model's accuracy. The proposed model is evaluated on 800 (348 benign and 452 malignant) BUS images and its performance is analyzed with other progressive techniques, using different quantitative analyses. The result indicates that the proposed approach can successfully augment the BUS images with 92.47% accuracy.

11. PARTNR: A Benchmark for Planning and Reasoning in Embodied Multi-agent Tasks

Abstract: We present a benchmark for Planning And Reasoning Tasks in humaN-Robot collaboration (PARTNR) designed to study human-robot coordination in household activities. PARTNR tasks exhibit characteristics of everyday tasks, such as spatial, temporal, and heterogeneous agent capability constraints. We employ a semi-automated task generation pipeline using Large Language Models (LLMs), incorporating simulation in the loop for grounding and verification. PARTNR stands as the largest benchmark of its kind, comprising 100,000 natural language tasks, spanning 60 houses and 5,819 unique objects. We analyze state-of-the-art LLMs on PARTNR tasks, across the axes of planning, perception and skill execution. The analysis reveals significant limitations in SoTA models, such as poor coordination and failures in task tracking and recovery from errors. When LLMs are paired with real humans, they require 1.5x as many steps as two humans collaborating and 1.1x more steps than a single human, underscoring the potential for improvement in these models. We further show that fine-tuning smaller LLMs with planning data can achieve performance on par with models 9 times larger, while being 8.6x faster at inference. Abstract: We investigate how low-quality AI advisors, lacking quality disclosures, can help spread text-based lies while seeming to help people detect lies. Participants in our experiment discern truth from lies by evaluating transcripts from a game show that mimicked deceptive social media exchanges on topics with objective truths. We find that when relying on low-quality advisors without disclosures, participants' truth-detection rates fall below their own abilities, which recovered once the AI's true effectiveness was revealed. Conversely, high-quality advisor enhances truth detection, regardless of disclosure. 13. Community search signatures as foundation features for human-centered geospatial modeling

Abstract: Aggregated relative search frequencies offer a unique composite signal reflecting people's habits, concerns, interests, intents, and general information needs, which are not found in other readily available datasets. Temporal search trends have been successfully used in time series modeling across a variety of domains such as infectious diseases, unemployment rates, and retail sales. However, most existing applications require curating specialized datasets of individual keywords, queries, or query clusters, and the search data need to be temporally aligned with the outcome variable of interest. We propose a novel approach for generating an aggregated and anonymized representation of search interest as foundation features at the community level for geospatial modeling. We benchmark these features using spatial datasets across multiple domains. In zip codes with a population greater than 3000 that cover over 95% of the contiguous US population, our models for predicting missing values in a 20% set of holdout counties achieve an average $R^2$ score of 0.74 across 21 health variables, and 0.80 across 6 demographic and environmental variables. Our results demonstrate that these search features can be used for spatial predictions without strict temporal alignment, and that the resulting models outperform spatial interpolation and state of the art methods using satellite imagery features., Comment: 8 pages, 8 figures, presented at the DMLR workshop at ICML 2024

Abstract: Using $(10087\pm44)\times 10^{6}$ $J/\psi$ decays collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we search for baryon number violation via $\Lambda-\bar{\Lambda}$ oscillation in the decay $J/\psi \to \Lambda \bar{\Lambda}$. No evidence for $\Lambda-\bar\Lambda$ oscillation is observed. The upper limit on the time-integrated probability of $\Lambda-\bar{\Lambda}$ oscillation is estimated to be $1.4\times 10^{-6}$, corresponding to an oscillation parameter less than $2.1\times 10^{-18}~\mathrm{GeV}$ at $90\%$ confidence level., Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures

15. Galois Coverings, $\tau$-Rigidity and Mutations

Abstract: For an algebraically closed field $\mathbb{K}$, we consider a Galois $G$-covering $\mathcal{B} \to \mathcal{A}$ between locally bounded $\mathbb{K}$-categories given by bound quivers, where $G$ is torsion-free and acts freely on the objects of $\mathcal{B}$. We define the notion of $(G,\tau_{\mathcal{B}})$-rigid subcategory and of support $(G,\tau_{\mathcal{B}})$-tilting pairs over $\mathcal{B}$-$\rm mod$. These are the analogues of the similar concepts in the context of a finite-dimensional algebra, where we additionally require that the subcategory be $G$-equivariant. When $\mathcal{A}$ is a finite-dimensional algebra, we show that the corresponding push-down functor $\mathcal{F}_{\lambda}: \mathcal{B}$-$\rm mod$ $\to \mathcal{A}$-$\rm mod$ sends $(G,\tau_{\mathcal{B}})$-rigid subcategories (respectively support $(G,\tau_{\mathcal{B}})$-tilting pairs) to $\tau_{\mathcal{A}}$-rigid modules (respectively support $\tau_{\mathcal{A}}$-tilting pairs). We further show that there is a notion of mutation for support $(G,\tau_{\mathcal{B}})$-tilting pairs over $\mathcal{B}$-$\rm mod$. Mutations of support $\tau_\mathcal{A}$-tilting pairs and of support $(G,\tau_\mathcal{B})$-tilting pairs commute with the push-down functor. We derive some consequences of this, and in particular, we derive a $\tau$-tilting analogue of the result of P. Gabriel that locally representation-finiteness is preserved under coverings. Finally, we prove that when the Galois group $G$ is finitely generated free, any rigid $\mathcal{A}$-module (and in particular $\tau_\mathcal{A}$-rigid $\mathcal{A}$-modules) lies in the essential image of the push-down functor.

16. On Homomorphic Encryption Based Strategies for Class Imbalance in Federated Learning

Abstract: Class imbalance in training datasets can lead to bias and poor generalization in machine learning models. While pre-processing of training datasets can efficiently address both these issues in centralized learning environments, it is challenging to detect and address these issues in a distributed learning environment such as federated learning. In this paper, we propose FLICKER, a privacy preserving framework to address issues related to global class imbalance in federated learning. At the heart of our contribution lies the popular CKKS homomorphic encryption scheme, which is used by the clients to privately share their data attributes, and subsequently balance their datasets before implementing the FL scheme. 17. Mathematical Derivation Graphs: A Task for Summarizing Equation Dependencies in STEM Manuscripts

Abstract: Recent advances in natural language processing (NLP), particularly with the emergence of large language models (LLMs), have significantly enhanced the field of textual analysis. However, while these developments have yielded substantial progress in analyzing textual data, applying analysis to mathematical equations and their relationships within texts has produced mixed results. In this paper, we take the initial steps toward understanding the dependency relationships between mathematical expressions in STEM articles. Our dataset, sourced from a random sampling of the arXiv corpus, contains an analysis of 107 published STEM manuscripts whose inter-equation dependency relationships have been hand-labeled, resulting in a new object we refer to as a derivation graph that summarizes the mathematical content of the manuscript. We exhaustively evaluate analytical and NLP-based models to assess their capability to identify and extract the derivation relationships for each article and compare the results with the ground truth. Our comprehensive testing finds that both analytical and NLP models (including LLMs) achieve $\sim$40-50% F1 scores for extracting derivation graphs from articles, revealing that the recent advances in NLP have not made significant inroads in comprehending mathematical texts compared to simpler analytic models. Abstract: By analyzing $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data with an integrated luminosity of 7.9~fb$^{-1}$ collected with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773~GeV, the branching fraction of $D^+\to\tau^+\nu_{\tau}$ is determined as $\mathcal{B}=(9.9\pm 1.1_\mathrm{stat}\pm 0.5_\mathrm{syst})\times10^{-4}$. Taking the most precise result $\mathcal{B}(D^+\to\mu^+\nu_{\mu})=(3.981\pm 0.079_\mathrm{stat}\pm0.040_\mathrm{syst})\times10^{-4}$, we determine $R_{\tau/\mu} = \Gamma(D^+\to\tau^+\nu_{\tau})/\Gamma(D^+\to\mu^+\nu_{\mu})= 2.49\pm0.31$, achieving a factor of two improvement in precision compared to the previous BESIII result. This measurement is in agreement with the standard model prediction of lepton flavor universality within one standard deviation.

Abstract: Accurate localization in indoor environments is a challenge due to the Non Line of Sight (NLoS) nature of the signaling. In this paper, we explore the use of AI/ML techniques for positioning accuracy enhancement in Indoor Factory (InF) scenarios. The proposed neural network, which we term LocNet, is trained on measurements such as Channel Impulse Response (CIR) and Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) from multiple Transmit Receive Points (TRPs). Simulation results show that when using measurements from 18 TRPs, LocNet achieves a 9 cm positioning accuracy at the 90th percentile. Additionally, we demonstrate that the same model generalizes effectively even when measurements from some TRPs randomly become unavailable. 20. Tetragonal BaCoO$_3$: A Co$^{4+}$ Ferromagnetic Mott Insulator with Inverted Spin Crossover

Abstract: The interplay between crystal electric field splitting of d states and Hund's rule exchange energy in cobalt-based perovskites offers a promising avenue for inducing spin-state transitions. This study reports a new body-centered tetragonal (BCT) phase of BaCoO$_3$ (BCT-BaCoO$_3$), synthesized under high pressure (15 GPa) and high temperature (1200 {\deg}C) conditions. BCT-BaCoO$_3$ adopts a double perovskite structure of EuTiO$_3$-type (space group I4/mcm, #140), confirmed by high-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy reveals a rare Co$^{4+}$ valence state. Magnetization and X-ray absorption measurements reveal a low-spin to high-spin transition that takes place between 200 and 300 K. While spin crossovers are relatively common among common oxides, the one observed in BCT-BaCoO$_3$ is remarkable in that it proceeds in the opposite direction from conventional spin transitions. BCT-BaCoO$_3$ exhibits a low-spin (S = 1/2) state at high temperatures and transitions to a high-spin (S = 5/2) state at low temperatures. Within the high-spin state, hard ferromagnetic order onsets at T$_C$ = 107 K. Electrical resistivity indicates weak magnetoresistance and insulating behavior. Abstract: Using $(27.12\pm0.14) \times 10^{8}$ $\psi(2S)$ events collected by the BESIII detector operating at BEPCII, we search for the decay $\eta_c(2S)\to p\bar{p}$ via the process $\psi(2S)\to \gamma\eta_c(2S)$, and only find a signal with a significance of $1.7\,\sigma$. The upper limit of the product branching fraction at the 90% confidence level is determined to be $\mathcal{B}(\psi(2S)\to \gamma\eta_c(2S))\times \mathcal{B}(\eta_c(2S)\to p\bar{p})<2.4\times 10^{-7}$. The branching fractions of $\chi_{cJ}\to p\bar{p}~(J=0,1,2)$ are also measured to be $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c0}\to p\bar{p})=(2.51\pm0.02\pm0.08)\times 10^{-4}$, $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c1}\to p\bar{p})=(8.16\pm0.09\pm0.25)\times 10^{-4}$, and $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c2}\to p\bar{p})=(8.33\pm0.09\pm0.22)\times 10^{-4}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.

22. Ferret-UI 2: Mastering Universal User Interface Understanding Across Platforms

Abstract: Building a generalist model for user interface (UI) understanding is challenging due to various foundational issues, such as platform diversity, resolution variation, and data limitation. In this paper, we introduce Ferret-UI 2, a multimodal large language model (MLLM) designed for universal UI understanding across a wide range of platforms, including iPhone, Android, iPad, Webpage, and AppleTV. Building on the foundation of Ferret-UI, Ferret-UI 2 introduces three key innovations: support for multiple platform types, high-resolution perception through adaptive scaling, and advanced task training data generation powered by GPT-4o with set-of-mark visual prompting. These advancements enable Ferret-UI 2 to perform complex, user-centered interactions, making it highly versatile and adaptable for the expanding diversity of platform ecosystems. Extensive empirical experiments on referring, grounding, user-centric advanced tasks (comprising 9 subtasks $\times$ 5 platforms), GUIDE next-action prediction dataset, and GUI-World multi-platform benchmark demonstrate that Ferret-UI 2 significantly outperforms Ferret-UI, and also shows strong cross-platform transfer capabilities.

23. A variational approach to nonlocal image restoration flows

Abstract: We prove existence, uniqueness and initial time regularity for variational solutions to nonlocal total variation flows associated with image denoising and deblurring. In particular, we prove existence of parabolic minimisers $u$, that is, $$\int_0^T\int_\Omega u\partial_t\phi\,dx + \textbf{F}(u(t))\,dt\leq \int_0^T \textbf{F}(u+\phi)(t)\,dt,$$ for $\phi\in C^\infty_c(\Omega\times (0,T))$. The prototypical functional $\textbf{F}(u)$ is $\textbf{F}(u)=\textbf{TV}^{\alpha}_{\cdot}(u)+\frac{\kappa}{\zeta}\int_\Omega|u(x)-u_0(x)|^\zeta\,dx$ for $\zeta\geq 1$. Here $\textbf{TV}^{\alpha}_{\cdot}$ is a fractional total variation of either the Riesz or the Gagliardo type and the second term is a regression term. These models are based on different definitions of fractional $\textbf{BV}$ spaces that have been proposed in the literature. The notion of solution is completely variational and based on the weighted dissipation method. We demonstrate existence without smoothness assumptions on the domain and exhibit uniqueness without using strict convexity. We can also deal with fairly general fidelity or regression terms in the model. Abstract: The application of deep learning-based architecture has seen a tremendous rise in recent years. For example, medical image classification using deep learning achieved breakthrough results. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are implemented predominantly in medical image classification and segmentation. On the other hand, transfer learning has emerged as a prominent supporting tool for enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of deep learning models. This paper investigates the development of CNN architectures using transfer learning techniques in the field of medical image classification using a timeline mapping model for key image classification challenges. Our findings help make an informed decision while selecting the optimum and state-of-the-art CNN architectures.

25. packetLSTM: Dynamic LSTM Framework for Streaming Data with Varying Feature Space

Abstract: We study the online learning problem characterized by the varying input feature space of streaming data. Although LSTMs have been employed to effectively capture the temporal nature of streaming data, they cannot handle the dimension-varying streams in an online learning setting. Therefore, we propose a dynamic LSTM-based novel method, called packetLSTM, to model the dimension-varying streams. The packetLSTM's dynamic framework consists of an evolving packet of LSTMs, each dedicated to processing one input feature. Each LSTM retains the local information of its corresponding feature, while a shared common memory consolidates global information. This configuration facilitates continuous learning and mitigates the issue of forgetting, even when certain features are absent for extended time periods. The idea of utilizing one LSTM per feature coupled with a dimension-invariant operator for information aggregation enhances the dynamic nature of packetLSTM. This dynamic nature is evidenced by the model's ability to activate, deactivate, and add new LSTMs as required, thus seamlessly accommodating varying input dimensions. The packetLSTM achieves state-of-the-art results on five datasets, and its underlying principle is extended to other RNN types, like GRU and vanilla RNN.

26. Characterizing Robocalls with Multiple Vantage Points

Abstract: Telephone spam has been among the highest network security concerns for users for many years. In response, industry and government have deployed new technologies and regulations to curb the problem, and academic and industry researchers have provided methods and measurements to characterize robocalls. Have these efforts borne fruit? Are the research characterizations reliable, and have the prevention and deterrence mechanisms succeeded? In this paper, we address these questions through analysis of data from several independently-operated vantage points, ranging from industry and academic voice honeypots to public enforcement and consumer complaints, some with over 5 years of historic data. We first describe how we address the non-trivial methodological challenges of comparing disparate data sources, including comparing audio and transcripts from about 3 million voice calls. We also detail the substantial coherency of these diverse perspectives, which dramatically strengthens the evidence for the conclusions we draw about robocall characterization and mitigation while highlighting advantages of each approach. Among our many findings, we find that unsolicited calls are in slow decline, though complaints and call volumes remain high. We also find that robocallers have managed to adapt to STIR/SHAKEN, a mandatory call authentication scheme. Abstract: Studies are performed of the Cabibbo-favored decay $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\to\Lambda K_{S}^{0}K^+$ and the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\to\Lambda K_{S}^{0}\pi^+$, based on a sample of $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.5 fb$^{-1}$, accumulated at center-of-mass energies between $4599.53$ MeV and $4698.82$ MeV with the BESIII detector. The decay $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\to\Lambda K_{S}^{0}\pi^+$ is observed for the first time. The branching fractions of $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\to\Lambda K_{S}^{0}K^+$ and $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\to\Lambda K_{S}^{0}\pi^+$ are measured to be $(3.04\pm0.30\pm0.16)\times 10^{-3}$ and $(1.73\pm0.27\pm0.10)\times 10^{-3}$, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results correspond to the most precise measurement of these quantities for both decays. Evidence of a $K^{*+}$ contribution in the $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\to\Lambda K_{S}^{0}\pi^+$ decay is found with a statistical significance of $4.7\sigma$. The branching fraction of $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\to\Lambda K^{*+}$ is calculated under three possible interference scenarios.

28. On the grain growth behavior of Ni-W alloys in the extremely fine-grained regime

Abstract: Nanocrystalline pure FCC metals and some alloys are known to exhibit abnormal grain growth. Addition of solutes, such as W, has led to improved grain size stability in nanocrystalline Ni. While several groups have investigated grain growth behavior in Ni-based binary alloys, grain sizes greater than 15 nm were primarily investigated. In the present study, grain growth behavior is examined in grain size regime below 10 nm in nanocrystalline Ni-W alloys with 8 to 15 at% W at 773K. In this size regime, normal grain growth behavior was observed in these alloys, evidenced from (a) parabolic kinetics in plots of square of average grain size against annealing time, and (b) statistical self-similarity on the scaled size distribution in a log-normal plot.

29. Unifying homogeneous and inhomogeneous rheology of dense suspensions

Abstract: The rheology of dense suspensions lacks a universal description due to the involvement of a wide variety of parameters, ranging from the physical properties of solid particles to the nature of the external deformation or applied stress. While the former controls microscopic interactions, spatial variations in the latter induce heterogeneity in the flow, making it difficult to find suitable constitutive laws to describe the rheology in a unified way. For homogeneous driving with a spatially uniform strain rate, the rheology of non-Brownian dense suspensions is well described by the conventional $\mu(J)$ rheology. However, this rheology fails in the inhomogeneous case due to non-local effects, where the flow in one region is influenced by the flow in another. Here, motivated by observations from simulation data, we introduce a new dimensionless number, the suspension temperature $\Theta_s$, which contains information on local particle velocity fluctuations. We find that $\mu(J,\Theta_s)$ provides a unified description for both homogeneous and inhomogeneous flows. By employing scaling theory, we identify a set of constitutive laws for dense suspensions of frictional spherical particles and frictionless rod-shaped particles. Combining these scaling relations with the momentum balance equation for our model system, we predict the spatial variation of the relevant dimensionless numbers, the volume fraction $\phi$, the viscous number $J$, the macroscopic friction coefficient $\mu$, and $\Theta_s$ solely from the nature of the imposed external driving.

30. Blocking transition of SrTiO$_3$ surface dipoles in MoS$_2$/SrTiO$_3$ field effect transistors with counterclockwise hysteresis

Abstract: A counterclockwise hysteresis is observed at room temperature in the transfer characteristics of SrTiO$_3$ (STO) gated MoS$_2$ field effect transistor (FET) and attributed to bistable dipoles on the STO surface. The hysteresis is expectedly found to increase with increasing range, as well as decreasing rate, of the gate-voltage sweep. The hysteresis peaks near 350 K while the transconductance rises with rising temperature above the room temperature. This is attributed to a blocking transition arising from an interplay of thermal energy and an energy-barrier that separates the two dipole states. The dipoles are discussed in terms of the displacement of the puckered oxygen ions at the STO surface. Finally, the blocking enables a control on the threshold gate-voltage of the FET over a wide range at low temperature which demonstrates it as a heat assisted memory device., Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures

31. Audio Processing using Pattern Recognition for Music Genre Classification

Abstract: This project explores the application of machine learning techniques for music genre classification using the GTZAN dataset, which contains 100 audio files per genre. Motivated by the growing demand for personalized music recommendations, we focused on classifying five genres-Blues, Classical, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Country-using a variety of algorithms including Logistic Regression, K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Random Forest, and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) implemented via Keras. The ANN model demonstrated the best performance, achieving a validation accuracy of 92.44%. We also analyzed key audio features such as spectral roll-off, spectral centroid, and MFCCs, which helped enhance the model's accuracy. Future work will expand the model to cover all ten genres, investigate advanced methods like Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks and ensemble approaches, and develop a web application for real-time genre classification and playlist generation. This research aims to contribute to improving music recommendation systems and content curation.

32. Dark matter searches at BESIII

Abstract: Dark matter (DM) is a new type of invisible matter introduced to explain various features of recent astrophysical observations, including galaxy rotation curves and other fundamental characteristics of our universe. DM may couple to ordinary matter via portals, which open up possibilities for new particles, such as axion-like particle, light Higgs boson, dark photon, and spin-1/2 fermions. If the masses of these particles lie in the MeV to GeV range, they can be explored by high-intensity electron-positron collider experiments, such as the BESIII experiment. BESIII has accumulated a huge amount of datasets at several energy points, including the $J/\psi$, $\psi(3686)$, and $\psi(3770)$ resonances. BESIII has recently explored the possibility for axion-like particle and light Higgs boson through radiative $J/\psi$ decays, dark photon via the initial-state radiation process, and a massless dark photon in $\Lambda_c$ decays. Abstract: The study of beta decay of the charmed baryon provides unique insights into the fundamental mechanism of the strong and electro-weak interactions. The $\Lambda_c^+$, being the lightest charmed baryon, undergoes disintegration solely through the charm quark weak decay. Its beta decay provides an ideal laboratory for investigating non-perturbative effects in quantum chromodynamics and for constraining the fundamental parameters of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix in weak interaction theory. This article presents the first observation of the Cabibbo-suppressed $\Lambda_c^+$ beta decay into a neutron $\Lambda_c^+ \rightarrow n e^+ \nu_{e}$, based on $4.5~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of electron-positron annihilation data collected with the BESIII detector in the energy region above the $\Lambda^+_c\bar{\Lambda}^-_c$ threshold. A novel machine learning technique, leveraging Graph Neural Networks, has been utilized to effectively separate signals from dominant backgrounds, particularly $\Lambda_c^+ \rightarrow \Lambda e^+ \nu_{e}$. This approach has yielded a statistical significance of more than $10\sigma$. The absolute branching fraction of $\Lambda_c^+ \rightarrow n e^+ \nu_{e}$ is measured to be $(3.57\pm0.34_{\mathrm{stat}}\pm0.14_{\mathrm{syst}})\times 10^{-3}$. For the first time, the CKM matrix element $\left|V_{cd}\right|$ is extracted via a charmed baryon decay to be $0.208\pm0.011_{\rm exp.}\pm0.007_{\rm LQCD}\pm0.001_{\tau_{\Lambda_c^+}}$. This study provides a new probe to further understand fundamental interactions in the charmed baryon sector, and demonstrates the power of modern machine learning techniques in enhancing experimental capability in high energy physics research., Comment: 28 pages, 6 figures

Abstract: Using $(27.12\pm 0.14)\times10^{8}$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, the decay $\chi_{c0}\to\Sigma^{+}\bar{\Sigma}^{-}\eta$ is observed for the first time with a statistical significance of $7.0\sigma$, and evidence for $\chi_{c1}\to\Sigma^{+}\bar{\Sigma}^{-}\eta$ and $\chi_{c2}\to\Sigma^{+}\bar{\Sigma}^{-}\eta$ is found with statistical significances of $4.3\sigma$ and $4.6\sigma$, respectively. The branching fractions are determined to be $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c0}\to\Sigma^{+}\bar{\Sigma}^{-}\eta)=({1.26 \pm 0.20 \pm 0.13}) \times 10^{-4}, ~\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c1}\to\Sigma^{+}\bar{\Sigma}^{-}\eta)=({5.10 \pm 1.21 \pm 0.67}) \times 10^{-5}$, and $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c2}\to\Sigma^{+}\bar{\Sigma}^{-}\eta)=({5.46 \pm 1.18 \pm 0.50}) \times 10^{-5}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical, and the second ones are systematic.

Abstract: Utilizing 4.5${~\rm{fb}}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies between 4.600 and 4.699 GeV, the first observation of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay $\Lambda_c^{+}\to p\pi^0$ is presented, with a statistical significance of $5.4\sigma$. The ratio of the branching fractions of $\Lambda_c^{+}\to p\pi^0$ and $\Lambda_c^{+}\to p\eta$ is measured as $\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_c^{+}\to p\pi^0)/\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_c^{+}\to p\eta)=(0.120\pm0.026_{\rm stat.}\pm0.007_{\rm syst.})$. This result resolves the longstanding discrepancy between earlier experimental searches, providing both a decisive conclusion and valuable input for QCD-inspired theoretical models. 36. PiLocNet: Physics-informed neural network on 3D localization with rotating point spread function

Abstract: For the 3D localization problem using point spread function (PSF) engineering, we propose a novel enhancement of our previously introduced localization neural network, LocNet. The improved network is a physics-informed neural network (PINN) that we call PiLocNet. Previous works on the localization problem may be categorized separately into model-based optimization and neural network approaches. Our PiLocNet combines the unique strengths of both approaches by incorporating forward-model-based information into the network via a data-fitting loss term that constrains the neural network to yield results that are physically sensible. We additionally incorporate certain regularization terms from the variational method, which further improves the robustness of the network in the presence of image noise, as we show for the Poisson and Gaussian noise models. This framework accords interpretability to the neural network, and the results we obtain show its superiority. Although the paper focuses on the use of single-lobe rotating PSF to encode the full 3D source location, we expect the method to be widely applicable to other PSFs and imaging problems that are constrained by known forward processes., Comment: 25 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: Utilizing a data set of $6.7$ fb$^{-1}$ from electron-positron collisions recorded by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring, a search is conducted for the processes $e^{+}e^{-} \to \phi \chi_{c0}$ and $\phi\eta_{c2}(1D)$ across center-of-mass energies from 4.47 to 4.95 GeV. In the absence of any significant signals, upper limits are set. These include limits on the Born cross sections for $e^{+}e^{-} \to \phi \chi_{c0}$, as well as the product of the Born cross section for $e^{+}e^{-} \to \phi\eta_{c2}(1D)$ and a sum of five branching fractions. Furthermore, the product of the electronic width of $Y(4660)$ and the branching fraction of the $Y(4660) \to \phi\chi_{c0}$, denoted as $\Gamma^{Y(4660)}_{e^{+}e^{-}} \mathcal{B}_{Y(4660) \to \phi\chi_{c0}}$, is determined to be $< 0.40$ eV at the 90\% confidence level., Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures

Abstract: Rapid adoption of machine learning (ML) technologies has led to a surge in power consumption across diverse systems, from tiny IoT devices to massive datacenter clusters. Benchmarking the energy efficiency of these systems is crucial for optimization, but presents novel challenges due to the variety of hardware platforms, workload characteristics, and system-level interactions. This paper introduces MLPerf Power, a comprehensive benchmarking methodology with capabilities to evaluate the energy efficiency of ML systems at power levels ranging from microwatts to megawatts. Developed by a consortium of industry professionals from more than 20 organizations, MLPerf Power establishes rules and best practices to ensure comparability across diverse architectures. We use representative workloads from the MLPerf benchmark suite to collect 1,841 reproducible measurements from 60 systems across the entire range of ML deployment scales. Our analysis reveals trade-offs between performance, complexity, and energy efficiency across this wide range of systems, providing actionable insights for designing optimized ML solutions from the smallest edge devices to the largest cloud infrastructures. This work emphasizes the importance of energy efficiency as a key metric in the evaluation and comparison of the ML system, laying the foundation for future research in this critical area. Abstract: Purpose: This paper aims to enhance bearing fault diagnosis in industrial machinery by introducing a novel method that combines Graph Attention Network (GAT) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks. This approach captures both spatial and temporal dependencies within sensor data, improving the accuracy of bearing fault detection under various conditions. Methodology: The proposed method converts time series sensor data into graph representations. GAT captures spatial relationships between components, while LSTM models temporal patterns. The model is validated using the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) Bearing Dataset, which includes data under different horsepower levels and both normal and faulty conditions. Its performance is compared with methods such as K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Local Outlier Factor (LOF), Isolation Forest (IForest) and GNN-based method for bearing fault detection (GNNBFD). Findings: The model achieved outstanding results, with precision, recall, and F1-scores reaching 100\% across various testing conditions. It not only identifies faults accurately but also generalizes effectively across different operational scenarios, outperforming traditional methods. Originality: This research presents a unique combination of GAT and LSTM for fault detection, overcoming the limitations of traditional time series methods by capturing complex spatial-temporal dependencies. Its superior performance demonstrates significant potential for predictive maintenance in industrial applications.

Abstract: Advancements in high-throughput technologies have led to a shift from traditional hypothesis-driven methodologies to data-driven approaches. Multi-omics refers to the integrative analysis of data derived from multiple 'omes', such as genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, and microbiomics. This approach enables a comprehensive understanding of biological systems by capturing different layers of biological information. Deep learning methods are increasingly utilized to integrate multi-omics data, offering insights into molecular interactions and enhancing research into complex diseases. However, these models, with their numerous interconnected layers and nonlinear relationships, often function as black boxes, lacking transparency in decision-making processes. To overcome this challenge, explainable artificial intelligence (xAI) methods are crucial for creating transparent models that allow clinicians to interpret and work with complex data more effectively. This review explores how xAI can improve the interpretability of deep learning models in multi-omics research, highlighting its potential to provide clinicians with clear insights, thereby facilitating the effective application of such models in clinical settings.

Abstract: By analyzing $(27.12\pm0.14)\times10^8$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, the decays of $\chi_{cJ} \to p \bar{p} K^0_S K^- \pi^+ +c.c.(J=0, 1, 2)$ are observed for the first time with statistical significances greater than $10\sigma$. The branching fractions of these decays are determined to be $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c0}\to p \bar p K^{0}_{S} K^- \pi^+ + c.c.)=(2.61\pm0.27\pm0.32)\times10^{-5},$ $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c1}\to p \bar p K^{0}_{S} K^- \pi^+ + c.c.)=(4.16\pm0.24\pm0.46)\times10^{-5},$ and $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c2}\to p \bar p K^{0}_{S} K^- \pi^+ + c.c.)=(5.63\pm0.28\pm0.46)\times10^{-5}$, respectively. The processes $\chi_{c1,2} \to \bar{p} \Lambda(1520) K^0_S \pi^{+} + c.c.$ are also observed, with statistical significances of 5.7$\sigma$ and 7.0$\sigma$, respectively. Evidence for $\chi_{c0} \to\bar{p} \Lambda(1520) K^0_S \pi^{+} + c.c.$ is found with statistical significances of 3.3$\sigma$ each. The corresponding branching fractions are determined to be $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c0}\to \bar{p} \Lambda(1520) K^0_S \pi^{+} + c.c.) =(1.61^{+0.68}_{-0.64}\pm0.23)\times10^{-5}$, $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c1}\to \bar{p} \Lambda(1520) K^0_S \pi^{+} + c.c.)=(4.06^{+0.80}_{-0.76}\pm0.52)\times10^{-5}$, and $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c2}\to \bar{p} \Lambda(1520) K^0_S \pi^{+} + c.c.)=(4.09^{+0.87}_{-0.84}\pm0.42)\times10^{-5}$. Abstract: In this paper, we study property $(UW_E)$ for hypercyclic and supercyclic operators. Further, we study the stability of variant of Weyl type theorems under compact perturbation for Toeplitz operators on Bergman space. Also, we give some examples of Toeplitz operators satisfying Weyl type theorems on Bergman space and harmonic Bergman space.

Abstract: Using $20.3\,\rm fb^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected at the center-of-mass energy 3.773\,GeV with the BESIII detector, we report the first observation of the semileptonic decay $D^+\to \eta^\prime \mu^+\nu_\mu$ with significance of $8.6\sigma$ including systematic uncertainties, and an improved measurement of $D^+\to \eta^\prime e^+\nu_e$. The branching fractions of $D^+\to \eta^\prime \mu^+\nu_\mu$ and $D^+\to \eta^\prime e^+\nu_e$ are determined to be $(1.92\pm0.28_{\rm stat}\pm 0.08_{\rm syst})\times 10^{-4}$ and $(1.79\pm0.19_{\rm stat}\pm 0.07_{\rm syst})\times 10^{-4}$, respectively. From an analysis of the $D^+\to \eta^\prime \ell^+\nu_\ell$ decay dynamics, the product of the hadronic form factor $f_+^{\eta^{\prime}}(0)$ and the CKM matrix element $|V_{cd}|$ is measured for the first time, giving $f^{\eta^\prime}_+(0)|V_{cd}| = (5.92\pm0.56_{\rm stat}\pm0.13_{\rm syst})\times 10^{-2}$. No evidence for violation of $\mu-e$ lepton-flavor universality is found in both the full range and several bins of $\ell^+\nu_\ell$ four-momentum transfer. The $\eta-\eta^\prime$ mixing angle in the quark flavor basis is determined to be $\phi_{\rm P} =(39.8\pm0.8_{\rm stat}\pm0.3_{\rm syst})^\circ$.

44. Heterogeneous Graph Auto-Encoder for CreditCard Fraud Detection

Abstract: The digital revolution has significantly impacted financial transactions, leading to a notable increase in credit card usage. However, this convenience comes with a trade-off: a substantial rise in fraudulent activities. Traditional machine learning methods for fraud detection often struggle to capture the inherent interconnectedness within financial data. This paper proposes a novel approach for credit card fraud detection that leverages Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) with attention mechanisms applied to heterogeneous graph representations of financial data. Unlike homogeneous graphs, heterogeneous graphs capture intricate relationships between various entities in the financial ecosystem, such as cardholders, merchants, and transactions, providing a richer and more comprehensive data representation for fraud analysis. To address the inherent class imbalance in fraud data, where genuine transactions significantly outnumber fraudulent ones, the proposed approach integrates an autoencoder. This autoencoder, trained on genuine transactions, learns a latent representation and flags deviations during reconstruction as potential fraud. This research investigates two key questions: (1) How effectively can a GNN with an attention mechanism detect and prevent credit card fraud when applied to a heterogeneous graph? (2) How does the efficacy of the autoencoder with attention approach compare to traditional methods? The results are promising, demonstrating that the proposed model outperforms benchmark algorithms such as Graph Sage and FI-GRL, achieving a superior AUC-PR of 0.89 and an F1-score of 0.81. This research significantly advances fraud detection systems and the overall security of financial transactions by leveraging GNNs with attention mechanisms and addressing class imbalance through an autoencoder.

Abstract: Using $20.3~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of $E_{\rm cm}=3.773$ GeV with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, we determine the branching fraction of the leptonic decay $D^+\to\mu^+\nu_\mu$ to be $(3.981\pm0.079_{\rm stat}\pm0.040_{\rm syst})\times10^{-4}$. Interpreting our measurement with knowledge of the Fermi coupling constant $G_F$, the masses of the $D^+$ and $\mu^+$ as well as the lifetime of the $D^+$, we determine $f_{D^+}|V_{cd}|=(47.53\pm0.48_{\rm stat}\pm0.24_{\rm syst}\pm0.12_{\rm input})~\mathrm{MeV}$. This result is a factor of 2.3 more precise than the previous best measurement. Using the value of the magnitude of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cd}|$ given by the global standard model fit, we obtain the $D^+$ decay constant $f_{D^+}=(211.5\pm2.3_{\rm stat}\pm1.1_{\rm syst}\pm0.8_{\rm input})$ MeV. Alternatively, using the value of $f_{D^+}$ from a precise lattice quantum chromodynamics calculation, we extract $|V_{cd}|=0.2242\pm0.0023_{\rm stat}\pm0.0011_{\rm syst}\pm0.0009_{\rm input}$., Comment: 9 pages, 2 figures

Abstract: This paper presents research on enhancements to Large Language Models (LLMs) through the addition of diversity in its generated outputs. Our study introduces a configuration of multiple LLMs which demonstrates the diversities capable with a single LLM. By developing multiple customised instances of a GPT model, each reflecting biases in specific demographic characteristics including gender, age, and race, we propose, develop and evaluate a framework for a more nuanced and representative AI dialogue which we call BiasGPT. The customised GPT models will ultimately collaborate, merging their diverse perspectives on a topic into an integrated response that captures a broad spectrum of human experiences and viewpoints. Abstract: To use generative question-and-answering (QA) systems for decision-making and in any critical application, these systems need to provide well-calibrated confidence scores that reflect the correctness of their answers. Existing calibration methods aim to ensure that the confidence score is on average indicative of the likelihood that the answer is correct. We argue, however, that this standard (average-case) notion of calibration is difficult to interpret for decision-making in generative QA. To address this, we generalize the standard notion of average calibration and introduce $\beta$-calibration, which ensures calibration holds across different question-and-answer groups. We then propose discretized posthoc calibration schemes for achieving $\beta$-calibration.

Abstract: Using (2712.4 $\pm$ 14.3)$\times 10^{6}$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, a partial wave analysis of the decay $\psi(3686) \to \phi \eta \eta' $ is performed with the covariant tensor approach. An axial-vector state with a mass near 2.3 $\rm GeV/c^2$ is observed for the first time. Its mass and width are measured to be 2316 $\pm 9_{\mathrm{stat}} \pm 30_{\mathrm{syst}}\,\rm MeV/c^2$ and 89 $\pm 15_{\mathrm{stat}} \pm 26_{\mathrm{syst}}\,\rm MeV$, respectively. The product branching fractions of $\mathcal{B}(\psi(3686) \to X(2300) \eta') \mathcal{B}(X(2300)\to \phi \eta)$ and $\mathcal{B}(\psi(3686) \to X(2300) \eta)\mathcal{B}(X(2300)\to \phi \eta')$ are determined to be (4.8 $\pm 1.3_{\mathrm{stat}} \pm 0.7_{\mathrm{syst}})\times 10^{-6}$ and (2.2 $\pm 0.7_{\mathrm{stat}} \pm 0.7_{\mathrm{syst}})\times 10^{-6}$, respectively. The branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(\psi(3686) \to \phi \eta \eta')$ is measured for the first time to be (3.14$\pm0.17_{\mathrm{stat}}\pm0.24_{\mathrm{syst}})\times10^{-5}$. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.

Abstract: We search for the radiative decays $D^{+} \to \gamma \rho^+$ and $D^{+} \to \gamma K^{*+}$ using 20.3~fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=3.773$ GeV by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. No significant signals are observed, and the upper limits on the branching fractions of $D^{+} \to \gamma \rho^+$ and $D^{+} \to \gamma K^{*+}$ at 90\% confidence level are set to be $1.3\times10^{-5}$ and $1.8\times10^{-5}$, respectively.

50. Mero Nagarikta: Advanced Nepali Citizenship Data Extractor with Deep Learning-Powered Text Detection and OCR

Abstract: Transforming text-based identity documents, such as Nepali citizenship cards, into a structured digital format poses several challenges due to the distinct characteristics of the Nepali script and minor variations in print alignment and contrast across different cards. This work proposes a robust system using YOLOv8 for accurate text object detection and an OCR algorithm based on Optimized PyTesseract. The system, implemented within the context of a mobile application, allows for the automated extraction of important textual information from both the front and the back side of Nepali citizenship cards, including names, citizenship numbers, and dates of birth. The final YOLOv8 model was accurate, with a mean average precision of 99.1% for text detection on the front and 96.1% on the back. The tested PyTesseract optimized for Nepali characters outperformed the standard OCR regarding flexibility and accuracy, extracting text from images with clean and noisy backgrounds and various contrasts. Using preprocessing steps such as converting the images into grayscale, removing noise from the images, and detecting edges further improved the system's OCR accuracy, even for low-quality photos. This work expands the current body of research in multilingual OCR and document analysis, especially for low-resource languages such as Nepali.
