1. Connecting Trigonometry to Its Geometric Roots: An Introduction to Trigonometric Values

Abstract: This research explores two methods through which ten preservice math teachers develop an understanding of trigonometric values. Using the unit circle, preservice math teachers engage in knowledge-building activities such as paper folding and GeoGebra application. Grounded in Altman and Kidron's 2016 didactical design research, this study examines the cognitive processes ten preservice math teachers undergo during knowledge acquisition procedure. Employing the dynamically nested epistemic action model for abstraction, we analyze how different tasks facilitate ten preservice math teachers' comprehension of unit circle representations for trigonometric expressions and their associated values. Furthermore, we apply the abstraction in context framework to observe how ten preservice math teachers' knowledge progresses from traditional 'triangle' trigonometry to 'circle' trigonometry, aiding in determining trigonometric values. 2. Influence of demonetization on various sectors of the Indian economy

Abstract: Background: India demonetized the currency in November 2016, scrapping 86.9 percent of the currency in circulation. This policy disrupted most economic activities because India was predominantly a cash economy. Purpose: The study aims to analyze the impact of demonetization on the informal-formal sector and the Indian stock markets, where investment reflects investors' confidence. Another purpose is to know the usefulness of demonetization in the proliferation of digitalization. Study design/methodology/approach: The study incorporates primary data to determine the impact on informal and formal workers' income and the acceptance of digitalization in rural-urban areas in Faridabad, Haryana. A survey was conducted, and samples for informal-formal workers and rural-urban households were collected and analyzed using the F test and the ANOVA model using an independent dummy or qualitative variables. The secondary data of the Indian stock market were empirically tested and forecasted using the Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (ARCH) model. Finding/Conclusions: The empirical analysis reveals that after demonetization, informal workers' earnings dropped significantly, and there is a substantial income disparity between informal-formal workers. A wide gap persists in adopting digital transactions due to low awareness of digital instruments in rural areas compared to urban areas. On the contrary, no significant impact is noticed in the Indian stock market as the forecasted value of shares trading depicts positive growth. The study identifies the gaps in policy implementation. It exposes the implementation of macroeconomic policies ensuring the protection of the interest and livelihood of economically vulnerable populations. The spread of awareness towards electronic transactions may help to promote digitalization Limitations/future research: The study is limited to a few areas. Hence, the scope of future research rests on macro-level data where comparison could be conducted between rural and urban areas across various states in India.

3. Patello-femoral synostosis: A rare complication after total knee arthroplasty: A case report

Abstract: Introduction: A painful, stiff knee after TKA affects the outcome. Various causes have been identified, including heterotrophic ossification (HO), but there is no documented evidence of bone formation between the patella and intercondylar notch of the distal femur in HO. Case report: We present the case of an elderly gentleman who presented with a painful stiff knee after revision TKA due to extensive HO leading to the formation of a bone bridge between the patella and femur. He was treated with repeat revision TKA using a rotating hinge prosthesis and achieved a painless, well-functioning knee at 3 years follow-up. Conclusion: Severe HO following TKA necessitating revision surgery is rare. In most cases, HO is minor and confined to the anterior distal femur without causing any functional compromise. In some cases, it can be widespread and affect all the tissues around the knee joint, causing severe restriction of movement.

4. Deep Learning-Driven Malware Classification with API Call Sequence Analysis and Concept Drift Handling

Abstract: Malware classification in dynamic environments presents a significant challenge due to concept drift, where the statistical properties of malware data evolve over time, complicating detection efforts. To address this issue, we propose a deep learning framework enhanced with a genetic algorithm to improve malware classification accuracy and adaptability. Our approach incorporates mutation operations and fitness score evaluations within genetic algorithms to continuously refine the deep learning model, ensuring robustness against evolving malware threats. Experimental results demonstrate that this hybrid method significantly enhances classification performance and adaptability, outperforming traditional static models. Our proposed approach offers a promising solution for real-time malware classification in ever-changing cybersecurity landscapes.

5. Impact of Digital Literacy, Use of AI Tools and Peer Collaboration on AI Assisted Learning: Perceptions of the University Students

Abstract: The technology-supported education systems seamlessly integrated throughout the globe in response to the demands of post COVID-19 pandemic. The swift developments of the digital tools with Artificial Intelligence (AI) support are also readily diffused among the educational communities. This research paper investigates the synergistic impact of digital literacy, the incorporation of AI tools, and Peer Supported Collaborative Learning (PSCL) on the learning perceptions of university students. The research aims to discern the implications of these technological and social facets on students' attitudes towards AI assisted learning process. Structured questionnaire-based survey among the University students were done for this descriptive research. 409 responses collected were analysed with SPSS, Excel and Process Macro. It is found that the students' Digital Literacy, Use of AI tools and PSCL on AI assisted learning were positively correlated. The partial mediatory path through the PSCL and AI tool usage has a significant positive influence on students learning process. The insights gathered from this study can inform educators, policymakers, and institutions on optimizing the amalgamation of digital literacy, AI tools and PSCL to enhance the contemporary learning environment. As universities navigate the digital age, this research provides a nuanced understanding of the dynamics shaping students' perceptions, offering valuable insights into the multifaceted aspects of AI influencing the educational landscape.

6. Latent Factor Models Meets Instructions:Goal-conditioned Latent Factor Discovery without Task Supervision

Abstract: Instruction-following LLMs have recently allowed systems to discover hidden concepts from a collection of unstructured documents based on a natural language description of the purpose of the discovery (i.e., goal). Still, the quality of the discovered concepts remains mixed, as it depends heavily on LLM's reasoning ability and drops when the data is noisy or beyond LLM's knowledge. We present Instruct-LF, a goal-oriented latent factor discovery system that integrates LLM's instruction-following ability with statistical models to handle large, noisy datasets where LLM reasoning alone falls short. Instruct-LF uses LLMs to propose fine-grained, goal-related properties from documents, estimates their presence across the dataset, and applies gradient-based optimization to uncover hidden factors, where each factor is represented by a cluster of co-occurring properties. We evaluate latent factors produced by Instruct-LF on movie recommendation, text-world navigation, and legal document categorization tasks. These interpretable representations improve downstream task performance by 5-52% than the best baselines and were preferred 1.8 times as often as the best alternative, on average, in human evaluation., Comment: NAACL 2025

7. Randomized benchmarking of a high-fidelity remote CNOT gate over a meter-scale microwave interconnect

Abstract: In the modular superconducting quantum processor architecture, high-fidelity, meter-scale microwave interconnect between processor modules is a key technology for extending system size beyond constraints imposed by device manufacturing equipment, yield, and signal delivery. While there have been many demonstrations of remote state transfer between modules, these relied on tomographic experiments for benchmarking, but this technique does not reliably separate State Preparation And Measurement (SPAM) error from error per state transfer. Recent developments based on randomized benchmarking provide a compatible theory for separating these two errors. In this work, we present a module-to-module interconnect based on Tunable-Coupling Qubits (TCQs) and benchmark, in a SPAM error tolerant manner, a remote state transfer fidelity of 0.988 across a 60cm long coplanar waveguide (CPW). The state transfer is implemented via superadiabatic transitionless driving method, which suppresses intermediate excitation in internal modes of CPW. We also introduce the frame tracking technique to correct unintended qubit phase rotations before and after the state transfers, which enables the SPAM-error-tolerant benchmarking of the state transfers. We further propose and construct a remote CNOT gate between modules, composed of local CZ gates in each module and remote state transfers, and report a high gate fidelity of 0.933 using randomized benchmarking method. The remote CNOT construction and benchmarking we present is a more complete metric that fully characterizes the module to module link operation going forward as it more closely represents interconnect operation in a circuit.

Abstract: Using $(2712\pm14)\times10^6$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we perform the first amplitude analysis of the radiative decay $\psi(3686)\to \gamma K_S^0 K_S^0$ within the mass region $M_{K_S^0 K_S^0 }<2.8$ GeV/$c^2$. Employing a one-channel K-matrix approach for the description of the dynamics of the $K^0_S K^0_S$ system, the data sample is well described with four poles for the $f_0$-wave and three poles for the $f_2$-wave. The determined pole positions are consistent with those of well-established resonance states. The observed $f_0$ and $f_{2}$ states are found to be qualitatively consistent with those produced in radiative $J/\psi$ decays, indicating the similarity between the two charmonium states in their radiative decays., Comment: 20 pages, 4 figures, submitted to JHEP

Abstract: We present initial results from extremely well-resolved 3D magnetohydrodynamical simulations of idealized galaxy clusters, conducted using the AthenaPK code on the Frontier exascale supercomputer. These simulations explore the self-regulation of galaxy groups and cool-core clusters by cold gas-triggered active galactic nucleus (AGN) feedback incorporating magnetized kinetic jets. Our simulation campaign includes simulations of galaxy groups and clusters with a range of masses and intragroup and intracluster medium properties. In this paper we present results that focus on a Perseus-like cluster. We find that the simulated clusters are self-regulating, with the cluster cores staying at a roughly constant thermodynamic state and AGN jet power staying at physically reasonable values ($\simeq 10^{44}-10^{45}$~erg/s) for billions of years without a discernible duty cycle. These simulations also produce significant amounts of cold gas, with calculations having strong magnetic fields generally both promoting cold gas formation and allowing cold gas out to much larger clustercentric radii ($\simeq 100$~kpc) than simulations with weak or no fields ($\simeq 10$~kpc), and also having more filamentary cold gas morphology. We find that AGN feedback significantly increases the strength of magnetic fields at the center of the cluster. We also find that the magnetized turbulence generated by the AGN results in turbulence where the velocity power spectra are tied to AGN activity whereas the magnetic energy spectra are much less impacted after reaching a stationary state., Comment: 25 pages, 14 figures. 10. Evaluating link prediction: New perspectives and recommendations

Abstract: Link prediction (LP) is an important problem in network science and machine learning research. The state-of-the-art LP methods are usually evaluated in a uniform setup, ignoring several factors associated with the data and application specific needs. We identify a number of such factors, such as, network-type, problem-type, geodesic distance between the end nodes and its distribution over the classes, nature and applicability of LP methods, class imbalance and its impact on early retrieval, evaluation metric, etc., and present an experimental setup which allows us to evaluate LP methods in a rigorous and controlled manner. We perform extensive experiments with a variety of LP methods over real network datasets in this controlled setup, and gather valuable insights on the interactions of these factors with the performance of LP through an array of carefully designed hypotheses. Following the insights, we provide recommendations to be followed as best practice for evaluating LP methods.

11. Multi-Attribute Steering of Language Models via Targeted Intervention

Abstract: Inference-time intervention (ITI) has emerged as a promising method for steering large language model (LLM) behavior in a particular direction (e.g., improving helpfulness) by intervening on token representations without costly updates to the LLM's parameters. However, existing ITI approaches fail to scale to multi-attribute settings with conflicts, such as enhancing helpfulness while also reducing toxicity. To address this, we introduce Multi-Attribute Targeted Steering (MAT-Steer), a novel steering framework designed for selective token-level intervention across multiple attributes. MAT-Steer learns steering vectors using an alignment objective that shifts the model's internal representations of undesirable outputs closer to those of desirable ones while enforcing sparsity and orthogonality among vectors for different attributes, thereby reducing inter-attribute conflicts. We evaluate MAT-Steer in two distinct settings: (i) on question answering (QA) tasks where we balance attributes like truthfulness, bias, and toxicity; (ii) on generative tasks where we simultaneously improve attributes like helpfulness, correctness, and coherence. Abstract: The escalating volume of academic research, coupled with a shortage of qualified reviewers, necessitates innovative approaches to peer review. While large language model (LLMs) offer potential for automating this process, their current limitations include superficial critiques, hallucinations, and a lack of actionable insights. This research addresses these challenges by introducing a comprehensive evaluation framework for AI-generated reviews, that measures alignment with human evaluations, verifies factual accuracy, assesses analytical depth, and identifies actionable insights. We also propose a novel alignment mechanism that tailors LLM-generated reviews to the unique evaluation priorities of individual conferences and journals. To enhance the quality of these reviews, we introduce a self-refinement loop that iteratively optimizes the LLM's review prompts. 13. Proton and neutron electromagnetic form factors using $N_f$=2+1+1 twisted-mass fermions with physical values of the quark masses

Abstract: We compute the electromagnetic form factors of the proton and neutron using lattice QCD with $N_f = 2 + 1 + 1$ twisted mass clover-improved fermions and quark masses tuned to their physical values. Three ensembles with lattice spacings of $a$=0.080 fm, 0.068 fm, and 0.057 fm, and approximately the same physical volume allow us to obtain the continuum limit directly at the physical pion mass. Several values of the source-sink time separation ranging from 0.5 fm to 1.5 fm are used, enabling a thorough analysis of excited state effects via multi-state fits. The disconnected contributions are analyzed using high statistics for the two-point functions combined with low-mode deflation and hierarchical probing for the fermion loop estimation. We study the momentum dependence of the form factors using the z-expansion and dipole Ansaetze, thereby enabling the extraction of the electric and magnetic radii, as well as the magnetic moments in the continuum limit, for which we provide preliminary results., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures. Abstract: By analyzing a $\psi(3686)$ data sample containing $(107.7\pm0.6)\times10^{6}$ events taken with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring in 2009, the $\chi_{c0}$ resonance parameters are precisely measured using $\chi_{c0,c2} \to \pi^+\pi^-/K^+K^-$ events. The mass of $\chi_{c0}$ is determined to be $M(\chi_{c0})=(3415.67\pm0.07\pm0.06\pm0.07$)~MeV/$c^2$, and its full width is $\Gamma(\chi_{c0})=(12.44\pm0.12\pm0.12)~{\rm MeV}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third for mass comes from $\chi_{c2}$ mass uncertainty. These measurements improve the precision of $\chi_{c0}$ mass by a factor of four and width by one order of magnitude over the previous individual measurements, and significantly boost our knowledge about the charmonium spectrum. Together with additional $(345.4\pm2.6)\times10^{6}$ $\psi(3686)$ data events taken in 2012, the decay branching fractions of $\chi_{c0,c2}\to\pi^+\pi^-/K^+K^-$ are measured as well, with precision improved by a factor of three compared to previous measurements. Abstract: Using $e^+e^-$ collision data at 13 center-of-mass energies ranging from 4.600 to 4.950 GeV collected with the BESIII detector, we search for the unmeasured $e^+e^-\to K_S^0 K_S^0 h_c$ process . No significant signal is observed, and the upper limits of the Born cross sections at each center-of-mass energy are presented.

16. Fairness Driven Slot Allocation Problem in Billboard Advertisement

Abstract: In billboard advertisement, a number of digital billboards are owned by an influence provider, and several commercial houses (which we call advertisers) approach the influence provider for a specific number of views of their advertisement content on a payment basis. Though the billboard slot allocation problem has been studied in the literature, this problem still needs to be addressed from a fairness point of view. In this paper, we introduce the Fair Billboard Slot Allocation Problem, where the objective is to allocate a given set of billboard slots among a group of advertisers based on their demands fairly and efficiently. As fairness criteria, we consider the maximin fair share, which ensures that each advertiser will receive a subset of slots that maximizes the minimum share for all the advertisers. We have proposed a solution approach that generates an allocation and provides an approximate maximum fair share. The proposed methodology has been analyzed to understand its time and space requirements and a performance guarantee. It has been implemented with real-world trajectory and billboard datasets, and the results have been reported. The results show that the proposed approach leads to a balanced allocation by satisfying the maximin fairness criteria. 17. Seasonal Station-Keeping of Short Duration High Altitude Balloons using Deep Reinforcement Learning

Abstract: Station-Keeping short-duration high-altitude balloons (HABs) in a region of interest is a challenging path-planning problem due to partially observable, complex, and dynamic wind flows. Deep reinforcement learning is a popular strategy for solving the station-keeping problem. A custom simulation environment was developed to train and evaluate Deep Q-Learning (DQN) for short-duration HAB agents in the simulation. To train the agents on realistic winds, synthetic wind forecasts were generated from aggregated historical radiosonde data to apply horizontal kinematics to simulated agents. The synthetic forecasts were closely correlated with ECWMF ERA5 Reanalysis forecasts, providing a realistic simulated wind field and seasonal and altitudinal variances between the wind models. DQN HAB agents were then trained and evaluated across different seasonal months. To highlight differences and trends in months with vastly different wind fields, a Forecast Score algorithm was introduced to independently classify forecasts based on wind diversity, and trends between station-keeping success and the Forecast Score were evaluated across all seasons.

18. DexterityGen: Foundation Controller for Unprecedented Dexterity

Abstract: Teaching robots dexterous manipulation skills, such as tool use, presents a significant challenge. Current approaches can be broadly categorized into two strategies: human teleoperation (for imitation learning) and sim-to-real reinforcement learning. The first approach is difficult as it is hard for humans to produce safe and dexterous motions on a different embodiment without touch feedback. The second RL-based approach struggles with the domain gap and involves highly task-specific reward engineering on complex tasks. Our key insight is that RL is effective at learning low-level motion primitives, while humans excel at providing coarse motion commands for complex, long-horizon tasks. Therefore, the optimal solution might be a combination of both approaches. In this paper, we introduce DexterityGen (DexGen), which uses RL to pretrain large-scale dexterous motion primitives, such as in-hand rotation or translation. We then leverage this learned dataset to train a dexterous foundational controller. In the real world, we use human teleoperation as a prompt to the controller to produce highly dexterous behavior. We evaluate the effectiveness of DexGen in both simulation and real world, demonstrating that it is a general-purpose controller that can realize input dexterous manipulation commands and significantly improves stability by 10-100x measured as duration of holding objects across diverse tasks. Abstract: By analyzing 7.93 $\rm fb^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider, we report the observation of the semimuonic decays of $D^+\to \bar K_1(1270)^0\mu^+\nu_\mu$ and $D^0\to K_1(1270)^-\mu^+\nu_\mu$ with statistical significances of $12.5\sigma$ and $6.0\sigma$, respectively. Their decay branching fractions are determined to be ${\mathcal B}[D^{+}\to \bar{K}_1(1270)^0 \mu^{+}\nu_{\mu}]=(2.36\pm0.20^{+0.18}_{-0.27}\pm 0.48)\times10^{-3}$ and ${\mathcal B}[D^{0}\to K_1(1270)^{-} \mu^{+}\nu_{\mu}]=(0.78\pm0.11^{+0.05}_{-0.09}\pm 0.15)\times10^{-3}$, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, and the third originates from the input branching fraction of $\bar K_{1}(1270)^0\to K^- \pi^+\pi^0$ or $K_1(1270)^-\to K^-\pi^+\pi^-$. Combining our branching fractions with the previous measurements of ${\mathcal B}[D^+\to \bar K_1(1270)^0e^+\nu_{e}]$ and ${\mathcal B}[D^0\to K_1(1270)^-e^+\nu_{e}]$, we determine the branching fraction ratios to be ${\mathcal B}[D^+\to \bar K_1(1270)^0\mu^+\nu_{\mu}]/{\mathcal B}[D^+\to \bar K_1(1270)^0e^+\nu_{e}]=1.03 \pm 0.14 \substack{+0.11\\-0.15}$ and ${\mathcal B}[D^0\to K_1(1270)^-\mu^+\nu_{\mu}]/{\mathcal B}[D^0\to K_1(1270)^-e^+\nu_{e}]=0.74\pm 0.13 \substack{+0.08\\-0.13}$. Using the branching fractions measured in this work and the world-average lifetimes of the $D^+$ and $D^0$ mesons, we determine the semimuonic partial decay width ratio to be $\Gamma [D^+\to \bar K_1(1270)^0 \mu^+\nu_\mu]/\Gamma [D^0\to K_1(1270)^- \mu^+\nu_\mu]=1.22\pm 0.10\substack{+0.06\\-0.09}$, which is consistent with unity as predicted by isospin conservation., Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures

20. Group Trip Planning Query Problem with Multimodal Journey

Abstract: In Group Trip Planning (GTP) Query Problem, we are given a city road network where a number of Points of Interest (PoI) have been marked with their respective categories (e.g., Cafeteria, Park, Movie Theater, etc.). A group of agents want to visit one PoI from every category from their respective starting location and once finished, they want to reach their respective destinations. This problem asks which PoI from every category should be chosen so that the aggregated travel cost of the group is minimized. This problem has been studied extensively in the last decade, and several solution approaches have been proposed. However, to the best of our knowledge, none of the existing studies have considered the different modalities of the journey, which makes the problem more practical. To bridge this gap, we introduce and study the GTP Query Problem with Multimodal Journey in this paper. Along with the other inputs of the GTP Query Problem, we are also given the different modalities of the journey that are available and their respective cost. Now, the problem is not only to select the PoIs from respective categories but also to select the modality of the journey. For this problem, we have proposed an efficient solution approach, which has been analyzed to understand their time and space requirements. A large number of experiments have been conducted using real-life datasets and the results have been reported. 21. Random Adaptive Cache Placement Policy

Abstract: This paper presents a new hybrid cache replacement algorithm that combines random allocation with a modified V-Way cache implementation. Our RAC adapts to complex cache access patterns and optimizes cache usage by improving the utilization of cache sets, unlike traditional cache policies. The algorithm utilizes a 16-way set-associative cache with 2048 sets, incorporating dynamic allocation and flexible tag management. RAC extends the V-Way cache design and its variants by optimizing tag and data storage for enhanced efficiency. We evaluated the algorithm using the ChampSim simulator with four diverse benchmark traces and observed significant improvements in cache hit rates up to 80.82% hit rate. Although the improvements in the instructions per cycle (IPC) were moderate, our findings emphasize the algorithm's potential to enhance cache utilization and reduce memory access times.

22. Scalable Higher Resolution Polar Sea Ice Classification and Freeboard Calculation from ICESat-2 ATL03 Data

Abstract: ICESat-2 (IS2) by NASA is an Earth-observing satellite that measures high-resolution surface elevation. The IS2's ATL07 and ATL10 sea ice elevation and freeboard products of 10m-200m segments which aggregated 150 signal photons from the raw ATL03 (geolocated photon) data. These aggregated products can potentially overestimate local sea surface height, thus underestimating the calculations of freeboard (sea ice height above sea surface). To achieve a higher resolution of sea surface height and freeboard information, in this work we utilize a 2m window to resample the ATL03 data. Then, we classify these 2m segments into thick sea ice, thin ice, and open water using deep learning methods (Long short-term memory and Multi-layer perceptron models). To obtain labeled training data for our deep learning models, we use segmented Sentinel-2 (S2) multi-spectral imagery overlapping with IS2 tracks in space and time to auto-label IS2 data, followed by some manual corrections in the regions of transition between different ice/water types or cloudy regions. We employ a parallel workflow for this auto-labeling using PySpark to scale, and we achieve 9-fold data loading and 16.25-fold map-reduce speedup. To train our models, we employ a Horovod-based distributed deep-learning workflow on a DGX A100 8 GPU cluster, achieving a 7.25-fold speedup. Next, we calculate the local sea surface heights based on the open water segments. Finally, we scale the freeboard calculation using the derived local sea level and achieve 8.54-fold data loading and 15.7-fold map-reduce speedup. Compared with the ATL07 (local sea level) and ATL10 (freeboard) data products, our results show higher resolutions and accuracy (96.56%).

23. Learning to Generate Unit Tests for Automated Debugging

Abstract: Unit tests (UTs) play an instrumental role in assessing code correctness as well as providing feedback to a large language model (LLM) as it iteratively debugs faulty code, motivating automated test generation. However, we uncover a trade-off between generating unit test inputs that reveal errors when given a faulty code and correctly predicting the unit test output without access to the gold solution. To address this trade-off, we propose UTGen, which teaches LLMs to generate unit test inputs that reveal errors along with their correct expected outputs based on task descriptions and candidate code. We integrate UTGen into UTDebug, a robust debugging pipeline that uses generated tests to help LLMs debug effectively. Since model-generated tests can provide noisy signals (e.g., from incorrectly predicted outputs), UTDebug (i) scales UTGen via test-time compute to improve UT output prediction, and (ii) validates and back-tracks edits based on multiple generated UTs to avoid overfitting. We show that UTGen outperforms UT generation baselines by 7.59% based on a metric measuring the presence of both error-revealing UT inputs and correct UT outputs. When used with UTDebug, we find that feedback from UTGen's unit tests improves pass@1 accuracy of Qwen-2.5 7B on HumanEvalFix and our own harder debugging split of MBPP+ by over 3% and 12.35% (respectively) over other LLM-based UT generation baselines., Comment: First two authors contributed equally. 24. Digital Health Innovations for Screening and Mitigating Mental Health Impacts of Adverse Childhood Experiences: Narrative Review

Abstract: This study presents a narrative review of the use of digital health technologies (DHTs) and artificial intelligence to screen and mitigate risks and mental health consequences associated with ACEs among children and youth. Several databases were searched for studies published from August 2017 to August 2022. Selected studies (1) explored the relationship between digital health interventions and mitigation of negative health outcomes associated with mental health in childhood and adolescence and (2) examined prevention of ACE occurrence associated with mental illness in childhood and adolescence. A total of 18 search papers were selected, according to our inclusion and exclusion criteria, to evaluate and identify means by which existing digital solutions may be useful in mitigating the mental health consequences associated with the occurrence of ACEs in childhood and adolescence and preventing ACE occurrence due to mental health consequences. We also highlighted a few knowledge gaps or barriers to DHT implementation and usability. Findings from the search suggest that the incorporation of DHTs, if implemented successfully, has the potential to improve the quality of related care provisions for the management of mental health consequences of adverse or traumatic events in childhood, including posttraumatic stress disorder, suicidal behavior or ideation, anxiety or depression, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. The use of DHTs, machine learning tools, natural learning processing, and artificial intelligence can positively help in mitigating ACEs and associated risk factors. Under proper legal regulations, security, privacy, and confidentiality assurances, digital technologies could also assist in promoting positive childhood experiences in children and young adults, bolstering resilience, and providing reliable public health resources to serve populations in need., Comment: 10 Pages, 1 Figure

Abstract: The rapid integration of machine learning (ML) predictors into in silico medicine has revolutionized the estimation of quantities of interest (QIs) that are otherwise challenging to measure directly. However, the credibility of these predictors is critical, especially when they inform high-stakes healthcare decisions. This position paper presents a consensus statement developed by experts within the In Silico World Community of Practice. We outline twelve key statements forming the theoretical foundation for evaluating the credibility of ML predictors, emphasizing the necessity of causal knowledge, rigorous error quantification, and robustness to biases. By comparing ML predictors with biophysical models, we highlight unique challenges associated with implicit causal knowledge and propose strategies to ensure reliability and applicability. Our recommendations aim to guide researchers, developers, and regulators in the rigorous assessment and deployment of ML predictors in clinical and biomedical contexts.

26. Pneutouch: Exploring the affordances and interactions of haptic inflatables through a wrist-worn interface

Abstract: Haptic sensations that align with virtual reality (VR) experiences have a profound impact on presence and enjoyment. There is potential to explore the dynamic capabilities of pneumatic inflatables to offer immersive sensations in virtual environments, including variations in shape, size, and stiffness. We introduce Pneutouch, an ungrounded and untethered wrist-worn device designed as a pneumatic haptic interface for VR interactions. Pneutouch's dynamic inflation ability enables programmable stiffness and shape change of haptic proxies. Additionally, multiple haptic proxies can be delivered into and out of the user's hand grasp. We describe the implementation of the Pneutouch device. We conducted user studies to demonstrate the affordances of pneumatic inflatables and assessed the device's efficacy in providing haptic feedback. 27. Study of SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein by Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy and Transmission Electron Microscopy

Abstract: The spike protein (SP) of SARS-CoV-2 is the major molecular target for making diagnostic tests, vaccines, and therapeutic development. We used a combination of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and surface enhanced Raman microscopy (SERS) to study its structure. Using SERS on an aluminum substrate, we were able to detect a characteristic spectrum of SP mostly due to vibration of three aromatic amino acids producing Raman shifts at 466 cm-1, 524 cm-1, 773 cm-1, 831 cm-1, 1048 cm-1, 1308 cm-1, 1457 cm-1, and 1610 cm-1. Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) of the SP showed periodic 2D-lattice orientation. Abstract: Individuals who are differently-able in vision cannot proceed with their day-to-day activities as smoothly as other people do. Especially independent walking is a hard target to achieve with their visual impairment. Assistive electronic travel aids equipped with different types of sensors are designed for visually impaired persons to assist their safe navigation. The amount of research on combining multiple sensors in assistive navigation aids for visually impaired navigation is limited. Most work is targeted at sensor integration but not at sensor fusion. This paper aims to address how sensor fusion and integration will be used to improve the sub-processes of visually impaired navigation and the way to evaluate the sensor fusion-based approach for visually impaired navigation which consists of several contributions to field sensor fusion in visually impaired navigation such as a novel homogeneous sensor fusion algorithm based on extended Kalman filter, a novel heterogeneous sensor integration approach, and a complementary sensor fusion algorithm based on error state extended Kaman filter. Overall this research presents a novel navigational framework to integrate obstacle detection, obstacle recognition, localization, motion planning, and current context awareness with sensor fusion.

Abstract: Using $\psi(3686)\rightarrow \pi^{0} h_{c}$ decays from a data sample of $(27.12\pm0.14)\times10^{8}$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, $h_c$ radiative decays to $\gamma\pi^{+}\pi^{-},~\gamma\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\eta,~\gamma2(\pi^{+}\pi^{-})$, and $\gamma p\bar{p}$ are observed for the first time, each with a significance greater than $5\sigma$. The corresponding branching fractions are measured. Furthermore, intermediate states below 2.8 GeV/$c^{2}$ are investigated, leading to the first observation of the decay process of $h_c\rightarrow\gamma f_{2}(1270)\rightarrow\gamma\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ with a significance of $5.5\,\sigma$. This observation represents the first instance of $h_c$ radiative decay to a tensor state.

30. Faster Machine Translation Ensembling with Reinforcement Learning and Competitive Correction

Abstract: Ensembling neural machine translation (NMT) models to produce higher-quality translations than the $L$ individual models has been extensively studied. Recent methods typically employ a candidate selection block (CSB) and an encoder-decoder fusion block (FB), requiring inference across \textit{all} candidate models, leading to significant computational overhead, generally $\Omega(L)$. This paper introduces \textbf{SmartGen}, a reinforcement learning (RL)-based strategy that improves the CSB by selecting a small, fixed number of candidates and identifying optimal groups to pass to the fusion block for each input sentence. Furthermore, previously, the CSB and FB were trained independently, leading to suboptimal NMT performance. Our DQN-based \textbf{SmartGen} addresses this by using feedback from the FB block as a reward during training. We also resolve a key issue in earlier methods, where candidates were passed to the FB without modification, by introducing a Competitive Correction Block (CCB). Finally, we validate our approach with extensive experiments on English-Hindi translation tasks in both directions.

Abstract: Benchmarks are important tools for tracking the rapid advancements in large language model (LLM) capabilities. However, benchmarks are not keeping pace in difficulty: LLMs now achieve over 90\% accuracy on popular benchmarks like MMLU, limiting informed measurement of state-of-the-art LLM capabilities. In response, we introduce Humanity's Last Exam (HLE), a multi-modal benchmark at the frontier of human knowledge, designed to be the final closed-ended academic benchmark of its kind with broad subject coverage. HLE consists of 2,700 questions across dozens of subjects, including mathematics, humanities, and the natural sciences. HLE is developed globally by subject-matter experts and consists of multiple-choice and short-answer questions suitable for automated grading. Each question has a known solution that is unambiguous and easily verifiable, but cannot be quickly answered via internet retrieval. State-of-the-art LLMs demonstrate low accuracy and calibration on HLE, highlighting a significant gap between current LLM capabilities and the expert human frontier on closed-ended academic questions. An investigation on the cross section line shape is performed, and no significant structure is observed.

34. Charging of quantum emitters in hexagonal boron nitride - graphene heterostructures due to electrostatic screening

Abstract: Defect color centers in hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) have gained significant interest as single-photon emitters and spin qubits for applications in a wide range of quantum technologies. As the integration of these solid-state quantum emitters into electronic devices necessitates electrical control, it is essential to gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of charge control for these defect color centers in hBN/graphene heterostructures. In this Letter, we show that screening due to the encapsulation of hBN with graphene modifies the electrical levels of hBN, leading to charge transfer. Furthermore, we show that the charged defects have low-energy barriers for defect reorientation which can be overcome by moderate gate voltages. This study shows that accurate modeling of the charge state of the defect is necessary to be able to electrically control defects., Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures

Abstract: Let $\Gamma$ be an undirected and simple graph. A set $ S $ of vertices in $\Gamma$ is called a {cyclic vertex cutset} of $\Gamma$ if $\Gamma - S$ is disconnected and has at least two components containing cycles. If $\Gamma$ has a cyclic vertex cutset, then it is said to be {cyclically separable}. The {cyclic vertex connectivity} of $\Gamma$ is the minimum of cardinalities of the cyclic vertex cutsets of $\Gamma$. For any finite group $G$, the order supergraph $\mathcal{S}(G)$ is the simple and undirected graph whose vertices are elements of $G$, and two vertices are adjacent if the order of one divides that of the other. In this paper, we characterize the finite nilpotent groups and various non-nilpotent groups whose order super graphs are cyclically separable.

Abstract: In this article, we highlight physics improvements in the NuWro Monte Carlo event generator. The upcoming version of NuWro will incorporate the integration of the argon spectral function for quasi-elastic scattering, along with the MINER$\nu$A parametrization of the axial form factor. Additionally, the new release will feature the implementation of the Valencia 2020 model for meson exchange current. The previously used simplistic delta resonance model for single-pion production will be replaced by a more accurate Ghent hybrid model in the upcoming version of NuWro. Abstract: To address the critical need for secure IoT networks, this study presents a scalable and lightweight curriculum learning framework enhanced with Explainable AI (XAI) techniques, including LIME, to ensure transparency and adaptability. The proposed model employs novel neural network architecture utilized at every stage of Curriculum Learning to efficiently capture and focus on both short- and long-term temporal dependencies, improve learning stability, and enhance accuracy while remaining lightweight and robust against noise in sequential IoT data. Robustness is achieved through staged learning, where the model iteratively refines itself by removing low-relevance features and optimizing performance. The workflow includes edge-optimized quantization and pruning to ensure portability that could easily be deployed in the edge-IoT devices. An ensemble model incorporating Random Forest, XGBoost, and the staged learning base further enhances generalization. Experimental results demonstrate 98% accuracy on CIC-IoV-2024 and CIC-APT-IIoT-2024 datasets and 97% on EDGE-IIoT, establishing this framework as a robust, transparent, and high-performance solution for IoT network security., Comment: 2 tables, 5 figures

Abstract: In this paper, we present a magnetohydrodynamics simulation of NOAA active region 11166 to understand the origin of a confined X-class flare that peaked at 23:23 UT on 2011 March 9. The simulation is initiated with a magnetic field extrapolated from the corresponding photospheric magnetogram using a non-force-free-field extrapolation technique. Importantly, the initial magnetic configuration identifies three-dimensional (3D) magnetic nulls and quasi-separatrix layers (QSLs), which nearly agree with the bright structures appeared in multi-wavelength observations. The Lorentz force associated with the extrapolated field self-consistently generates the dynamics that leads to the magnetic reconnections at the 3D nulls and the QSLs. These reconnections are found to contribute to the pre-flare activities and, ultimately, lead to the development of the flare ribbons. Notably, the anchored spine of the 3D null and the complete absence of flux rope in the flaring region are congruent with the confined nature of the flare. Abstract: Accurate weather forecasting holds significant importance, serving as a crucial tool for decision-making in various industrial sectors. The limitations of statistical models, assuming independence among data points, highlight the need for advanced methodologies. The correlation between meteorological variables necessitate models capable of capturing complex dependencies. This research highlights the practical efficacy of employing advanced machine learning techniques proposing GenHybQLSTM and BO-QEnsemble architecture based on adaptive weight adjustment strategy. Through comprehensive hyper-parameter optimization using hybrid quantum genetic particle swarm optimisation algorithm and Bayesian Optimization, our model demonstrates a substantial improvement in the accuracy and reliability of meteorological predictions through the assessment of performance metrics such as MSE (Mean Squared Error) and MAPE (Mean Absolute Percentage Prediction Error). 41. Subcodes of Second-Order Reed-Muller Codes via Recursive Subproducts

Abstract: We use a simple construction called `recursive subproducts' (that is known to yield good codes of lengths $n^m$, $n \geq 3$) to identify a family of codes sandwiched between first-order and second-order Reed-Muller (RM) codes. These codes are subcodes of multidimensional product codes that use first-order RM codes as components. We identify the minimum weight codewords of all the codes in this family, and numerically determine the weight distribution of some of them. While these codes have the same minimum distance and a smaller rate than second-order RM codes, they have significantly fewer minimum weight codewords. Further, these codes can be decoded via modifications to known RM decoders which yield codeword error rates within 0.25 dB of second-order RM codes and better than CRC-aided Polar codes (in terms of $E_b/N_o$ for lengths $256, 512, 1024$), thereby offering rate adaptation options for RM codes in low-capacity scenarios., Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures

Abstract: Using a sample of $(10087\pm44)\times10^{6}$ $J/\psi$ events accumulated with the BESIII detector, we analyze the decays $\eta\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-l^+l^-$ ($l=e$ or $\mu$) via the process $J/\psi\rightarrow\gamma\eta$. The branching fraction of $\eta\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-e^+e^-$ is measured to be $\mathcal{B}(\eta\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-e^+e^-)=(3.07\pm0.12_{\rm{stat.}}\pm0.19_{\rm{syst.}}) \times10^{-4}$. No signal events are observed for the $\eta\rightarrow\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\mu^{+}\mu^{-}$ decay, leading to an upper limit on the branching fraction of $\mathcal{B}(\eta\rightarrow\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\mu^{+}\mu^{-})<4.0\times10^{-7}$ at the 90\% confidence level. Furthermore, the $CP$-violation asymmetry parameter is found to be $\mathcal{A}_{CP}(\eta\rightarrow\pi^{+}\pi^{-}e^{+}e^{-})=(-4.04\pm4.69_{\rm{stat.}}\pm0.14_{\rm{syst.}})\%$, showing no evidence of $CP$-violation with current statistics. Additionally, we extract the transition form factor from the decay amplitude of $\eta\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-e^+e^-$. Finally, axion-like particles are searched for via the decay $\eta\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-a, a\rightarrow e^+e^-$, and upper limits on this branching fraction relative to that of $\eta\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-e^+e^-$ are presented as a function of the axion-like particle mass in the range $5-200\ \mathrm{MeV}/c^{2}$.

Abstract: Based on a data sample of $(10087 \pm 44) \times 10^6$ $J/\psi$ events taken with the BESIII detector, we search for the flavor-changing neutral current charmonium decay $J/\psi \to D^{0} \mu^{+} \mu^{-} + \text{c.c.}$. No significant signal above the background is observed, and the upper limit on its branching fraction is set to be $\mathcal{B}(J/\psi \to D^{0}\mu^{+}\mu^{-} + \text{c.c.} ) < 1.1 \times 10^{-7}$ at the 90% confidence level. 44. Finite Disorder Critical Point in the Brittle-to-Ductile Transition of Amorphous Solids in the Presence of Particle Pinning

Abstract: The mechanical yielding of amorphous solids under external loading can be broadly classified into ductile and brittle types, depending on whether their macroscopic stress response is smooth or abrupt, respectively. Recently, it has been shown that these two regimes, obtained by tuning the degree of annealing of the system, are separated by a critical point at a finite inherent disorder strength. Here, we demonstrate a transition from brittle yielding to ductile yielding by introducing quenched disorder in the form of randomly pinned particles. The well-annealed samples, which exhibit brittle yielding, undergo a transition to increasingly ductile yielding with increasing pinning concentrations while exhibiting an enhanced stress overshoot. Extensive finite size analysis is performed to demonstrate the critical nature of the transition at a finite pinning concentration and the various scaling exponents obtained are found to be in good agreement with the reported values. Finally, we show a direct correspondence with the shear band width and the critical pining concentration to establish a possible connection between inherent disorder strength and quenched disorder strength due to particle pinning.

45. Isochronous oscillator with a singular position-dependent mass and its quantization

Abstract: In this paper, we present an analysis of the equation $\ddot{x} - (1/2x) \dot{x}^2 + 2 \omega^2 x - 1/8x = 0$, where $\omega > 0$ and $x = x(t)$ is a real-valued variable. We first discuss the appearance of this equation from a position-dependent-mass scenario in which the mass profile goes inversely with $x$, admitting a singularity at $x = 0$. The associated potential is also singular at $x = 0$, splitting the real axis into two halves, i.e., $x > 0$ and $x < 0$. The dynamics is exactly solvable for both the branches and so for definiteness, we stick to the $x > 0$ branch. Performing a canonical quantization in the position representation and upon employing the ordering strategy of the kinetic-energy operator due to von Roos, we show that the problem is isospectral with the isotonic oscillator. Thus, the quantum spectrum consists of an infinite number of equispaced levels which is in line with the expectation that classical systems that support isochronous oscillations are associated in their quantized versions with equally-spaced spectra. 46. Reconstruction of quantum states by applying an analytical optimization model

Abstract: When working with quantum states, analysis of the final quantum state generated through probabilistic measurements is essential. This analysis is typically conducted by constructing the density matrix from either partial or full tomography measurements of the quantum state. While full tomography measurement offers the most accurate reconstruction of the density matrix, limited measurements pose challenges for reconstruction algorithms, often resulting in non-physical density matrices with negative eigenvalues. This is often remedied using maximum likelihood estimators, which have a high computing time or by other estimation methods that decrease the reconstructed fidelity. In this study, we show that when restricting the measurement sample size, improvement over existing algorithms can be achieved. Our findings underline the multiplicity of solutions in the reconstruction problem, depending upon the generated state and measurement model utilized, thus motivating further research towards identifying optimal algorithms tailored to specific experimental contexts.

Abstract: Based on $(1.0087\pm0.0044)\times10^{10}$ $J/\psi$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII $e^+e^-$ storage ring, we search for $K_{S}^{0}$ invisible decays via the $J/\psi \to \phi K_{S}^{0} K_{S}^{0}$ process. No significant signal is observed, and the upper limit of the branching fraction of these invisible decays is set at 8.4 $\times$ $10^{-4}$ at the 90\% confidence level. This is the first experimental search for $K^0_S$ invisible decays.

Abstract: Micromobility vehicles, such as e-scooters, are increasingly popular in urban communities but present significant challenges in terms of road safety, user privacy, infrastructure planning, and civil engineering. Addressing these critical issues requires a large-scale and easily accessible research infrastructure to collect diverse mobility and contextual data from micromobility users in realistic settings. To this end, we present ScooterLab, a community research testbed comprising a fleet of customizable battery-powered micromobility vehicles retrofitted with advanced sensing, communication, and control capabilities. ScooterLab enables interdisciplinary research at the intersection of computing, mobility, and urban planning by providing researchers with tools to design and deploy customized sensing experiments and access curated datasets. The testbed will enable advances in machine learning, privacy, and urban transportation research while promoting sustainable mobility.

49. GenMol: A Drug Discovery Generalist with Discrete Diffusion

Abstract: Drug discovery is a complex process that involves multiple scenarios and stages, such as fragment-constrained molecule generation, hit generation and lead optimization. However, existing molecular generative models can only tackle one or two of these scenarios and lack the flexibility to address various aspects of the drug discovery pipeline. In this paper, we present Generalist Molecular generative model (GenMol), a versatile framework that addresses these limitations by applying discrete diffusion to the Sequential Attachment-based Fragment Embedding (SAFE) molecular representation. GenMol generates SAFE sequences through non-autoregressive bidirectional parallel decoding, thereby allowing utilization of a molecular context that does not rely on the specific token ordering and enhanced computational efficiency. Moreover, under the discrete diffusion framework, we introduce fragment remasking, a strategy that optimizes molecules by replacing fragments with masked tokens and regenerating them, enabling effective exploration of chemical space. GenMol significantly outperforms the previous GPT-based model trained on SAFE representations in de novo generation and fragment-constrained generation, and achieves state-of-the-art performance in goal-directed hit generation and lead optimization. These experimental results demonstrate that GenMol can tackle a wide range of drug discovery tasks, providing a unified and versatile approach for molecular design.

50. Optimizing Multitask Industrial Processes with Predictive Action Guidance

Abstract: Monitoring complex assembly processes is critical for maintaining productivity and ensuring compliance with assembly standards. However, variability in human actions and subjective task preferences complicate accurate task anticipation and guidance. To address these challenges, we introduce the Multi-Modal Transformer Fusion and Recurrent Units (MMTFRU) Network for egocentric activity anticipation, utilizing multimodal fusion to improve prediction accuracy. Integrated with the Operator Action Monitoring Unit (OAMU), the system provides proactive operator guidance, preventing deviations in the assembly process. OAMU employs two strategies: (1) Top-5 MMTF-RU predictions, combined with a reference graph and an action dictionary, for next-step recommendations; and (2) Top-1 MMTF-RU predictions, integrated with a reference graph, for detecting sequence deviations and predicting anomaly scores via an entropy-informed confidence mechanism. We also introduce Time-Weighted Sequence Accuracy (TWSA) to evaluate operator efficiency and ensure timely task completion. Our approach is validated on the industrial Meccano dataset and the largescale EPIC-Kitchens-55 dataset, demonstrating its effectiveness in dynamic environments.
