When he did not find any off-the-shelf technology products, he teamed up with Progress Software Corp. in Bedford, Massachusetts, to develop, deploy, integrate and manage an application. Premier Manufacturing spent about $800,000 on the project, which was implemented within nine months, Scott says. The company continues to add features and see benefits. In addition to collecting production data of all sorts, the system can even help detect when production workers arc fatigued, Scott says, based on their performance rates.
