The paper presents an original methodology for the identification of intervention priorities through a tailored priority index IP in areas that are highly-exposed to port noise. The methodology is applied to a case study developed in the framework of the European project ANCHOR, acronym of Advanced Noise Control strategies in HarbOuR, funded as part of the announcement Life 2017.

The aim of this work is to study possible models for the development of renewable energy communities (RECs) in public private partnership (PPP), aimed at supporting the transition of energy consumption of Italian public administrations towards renewable sources and the sharing of any energy-economic benefits with the community of reference. In particular, the research work analyses the correct balance of interests of the main protagonists of the operation: public concessionary authorities, private Concessionaire and the energy community as the subject that aggregates the interests of the reference community. Moreover, the work aims to highlight the main advantages and risks for each of the actors involved and examine in depth the system of rules and incentives that enhance the actors' interest in these operations. The economic–financial balance of PPP operations has been investigated in order to quantify the residual economic benefits, after the amortization of the investments and the absorption of management costs. The results highlight that the sustainability of the investments for REC establishment is achieved only under certain conditions with rather modest returns and, in some cases, with the necessity of public capital contributions. This work is part of a research project aimed at developing a bio-based binder, composed mainly of polylactic acid (PLA), to produce Ti6Al4V feedstock suitable for use in MAM (Metal Additive Manufacturing) via mFFF (metal Fused Filament Fabrication), in order to manufacture a titanium alloy specimen. While in Bragaglia et al. the mechanical characteristics of this sample were analyzed, the aim used of this study is to compare the mentioned mFFF process with one of the most used MAM processes in aerospace applications, known as Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), based on the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method. Despite the excellent properties of the products manufactured via SLS, this 3D printing technology involves high upfront capital costs while mFFF is a cheaper process. Moreover, the mFFF process has the advantage of potentially being exported for production in microgravity or weightless environments for in-space use. Nevertheless, most scientific literature shows comparisons of the Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) printing stage with other AM technologies, and there are no comparative LCA "Candle to Gate" studies with mFFF processes to manufacture the same metal sample. Therefore, both MAM processes are analyzed with the LCA "Candle to Gate" method, from the extraction of raw materials to the production of the finished titanium alloy sample. The main results demonstrate a higher impact (+50%) process for mFFF and higher electrical energy consumption (7.31 kWh) compared to SLS (0.32 kWh). After power consumption, the use of titanium becomes the main contributor of Global Warming Potential (GWP) and Abiotic Depletion Potential (ADP) for both processes. Finally, an alternative scenario is evaluated in which the electrical energy is exclusively generated through photovoltaics. Carbon dioxide injection into natural gas hydrate reservoirs represents a promising opportunity to predispose a theoretically carbon neutral energy source. This technique allows to replace methane molecules with an equal number of carbon dioxide molecules and, consequently, to balance in advance emissions associated to methane utilization. While the direct CH4/CO2 replacement has been widely investigated, more data and scientific evidences are required to well define the feasibility of recovering methane by replacing it with CO2-based gaseous mixtures. In this sense, the most promising opportunity consists in flue-gas mixtures. In some cases, the presence of nitrogen was found capable to improve the overall efficiency, due to the direct competition between CH4 and N2 molecules to fill small cages characterizing hydrate structures. Moreover, these mixtures are extremely less-expensive than pure carbon dioxide. In this work, a binary CO2/N2 (50/50 vol%) gaseous mixture was used to recover methane contained into hydrate structures. Experiments were carried out in a small-scale experimental apparatus, designed to simulate a natural gas hydrate reservoir and to intervene on it with replacement techniques. Composition of gaseous mixtures present into hydrates and in the gaseous phase present immediately above, where defined via gas-chromatographic analyses. Finally, results were compared with data currently present in literature, in order to validate their consistency.

The utilization of the captured CO2 as a carbon source for the production of energy storage media offers a technological solution for overcoming crucial issues in current energy systems. Solar energy production generally does not match with energy demand because of its intermittent and non-programmable nature, entailing the adoption of storage technologies. Hydrogen constitutes a chemical storage for renewable electricity if it is produced by water electrolysis and is also the key reactant for CO2 methanation (Sabatier reaction). The utilization of CO2 as a feedstock for producingmethane contributes to alleviate global climate changes and sequestration related problems. The produced methane is a carbon neutral gas that fits into existing infrastructure and allows issues related to the aforementioned intermittency and non-programmability of solar energy to be overcome. In this paper, an experimental apparatus, composed of an electrolyzer and a tubular fixed bed reactor, is built and used to produce methane via Sabatier reaction. The objective of the experimental campaign is the evaluation of the process performance and a comparison with other CO2 valorization paths such as methanol production. The investigated pressure range was 2-20 bar, obtaining a methane volume fraction in outlet gaseous mixture of 64.75% at 8 bar and 97.24% at 20 bar, with conversion efficiencies of, respectively, 84.64% and 99.06%. The methanol and methane processes were compared on the basis of an energy parameter defined as the spent energy/stored energy. It is higher for the methanol process (0.45), with respect to the methane production process (0.41-0.43), which has a higher energy storage capability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
