A comparative analysis of Women’s Clothing designs in Minab and kalpouregan pottery in Baluchestan based on intertextual approachAbstractThe political and geographical proximity of Sistan and Baluchestan and Hormozgan provinces is effective in creating their cultural commonalities. Is the study of prefixes as well as the commonalities and differences between the designs used in the two mentioned art industries. The questions of this article are what is the background of the designs of Minab women's clothing and Kalpurgan pottery and what are the similarities and differences between them? This research is qualitative, descriptive-analytical and has theoretical foundations based on the intertextuality approach. Its information is based on library studies and field observations. The results indicate that the use of common contexts such as nature, ethnic beliefs and women's tastes in creating commonalities between Kalpurgan pottery motifs and Minab women's clothing motifs, these commonalities in the use of visual techniques such as repetition, symmetry and balance. It is evident in the design structure of the designs, which includes three types of plants, animals and geometric, especially the widespread use of geometric patterns that are mainly manifested in the form of circles and rhombuses in pottery and can be seen in the shape of triangles in women's clothing designs. The existence of these commonalities along with a few differences leads to the emergence of commonalities in the culture and arts of other regions and, of course, is effective in strengthening their cultural values. Background: Uric acid is the end product of the purine metabolism pathway, and has been linked to cancer risks and prognosis, but its relationship with hepatoblastoma (HB) remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the association between serum uric acid (SUA) and the advanced tumor staging and unfavorable extra-parenchymal tumor characteristics in patients with HB. Methods: This study enrolled pediatric patients from Xinhua Hospital between 2007 to 2021. A total of 101 participants with newly diagnosed HB were recruited in the study. PRETreatment EXTent of disease (PRETEXT)/PostTreatment Extent of disease (POSTTEXT) staging were evaluated at diagnosis and following neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). Adjusted smoothing spline plots, subgroup analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis were conducted to estimate the association of different levels of SUA with the advanced tumor staging and present annotation factors. Results: In accordance with SUA tertiles, those patients with higher pretreatment SUA levels showed increased percentages of PRETEXT group IV, vessel involvement and multifocality of tumors. After fully adjustment with the confounding factors, SUA was positively associated with advanced PRETEXT stage IV (OR: 1.72, 95%CI 1.15-2.57, p=0.0080), as well as vascular invasion (OR: 1.29, 95%CI 1.01-1.64, p=0.0396). Compared with the lowest SUA concentration tertile, the highest tertile were independently associated with vessel involvement of tumor in all of the adjusted models. Following NAC, SUA levels were significantly reduced in response to the downstaging of tumors. SUA remained positively associated with advanced POSTTEXT staging and vessel involvement in adjusted models. Patients with highest tertile of posttreatment SUA showed worse 5-year EFS and OS. Conclusion: Elevated SUA were associated with an increased occurrence of advanced PRETEXT/POSTTEXT staging and unfavorable vessel involvement at diagnosis and following NAC in patients with HB. High posttreatment SUA reflected poor tumor responses to NAC. This study linked SUA, a non-invasive laboratory test, with tumor staging and risk prediction for HB. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article is devoted to the study of the category of intertextuality on the material of the English song of the XX-XXI centuries. The work examines various approaches to the interpretation of the concept of intertextuality in the works of domestic and foreign linguists, distinguishes two models of intertextuality – wide and narrow, as a result of which intertextuality is defined, on the one hand, as a universal property of the text in general, when any text is read as intertext, and, on the other hand, as a specific quality of certain texts. The article studies types of intertextual relations, gives the definition of the pretext. The authors focus on intertextual inclusions, the sources of which are religious pretexts. The texts of English songs are examined as receiving texts, and the texts of religious content are considered from the perspective of precedence. In the work, the problem of interpretation of intertextual inclusions is associated with the problem of reader’s perception.

The article analyses the model of the cultural space underlying the image of Galicia in the novel The End of Days by Jenny Erpenbeck. The research is focused on the intertextual elements used to create this image, their functions and the range of their interactions with the concept of the frontier. The myth of Galicia, the works of Karl Emil Franzos, Joseph Roth, Johann Wolfgang Goethe as well as Old Testament stories and psalms are considered as the main sources of intertextuality. Based on the analysis it can be inferred that the novel uses the intertextual elements not only for the wide cultural contextualization of the image of Galicia but also for the subversion of both the myth of Galicia and the literary pretexts from which these elements are borrowed.

Purpose In 2017, the Children's Hepatic Tumors International Collaboration-Hepatoblastoma Stratification (CHIC-HS) system was introduced. We aimed to evaluate the accuracy of CHIC-HS System for the prediction of event-free survival (EFS) in Korean pediatric patients with hepatoblastoma. Materials and Methods This two-center retrospective study included consecutive Korean pediatric patients with histopathologically confirmed hepatoblastoma from March 1988 through September 2019. We compared EFS among four risk groups according to the CHIC-HS system. Discriminatory ability of CHIC-HS system was also evaluated using optimism-corrected C-statistics. Factors associated with EFS were explored using multivariable Cox regression analysis. Results We included 129 patients (mean age, 2.6±3.3 years; female:male, 63:66). The 5-year EFS rates in the very low, low, intermediate, and high-risk groups, according to the CHIC-HS system were 90.0%, 82.8%, 73.5%, and 51.3%, respectively. The CHIC-HS system aligned significantly well with EFS outcomes (p=0.004). The optimism-corrected C index of CHIC-HS was 0.644 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.561 to 0.727). Age = 8 (vs. age = 2; hazard ratio [HR], 2.781; 95% CI, 1.187 to 6.512; p=0.018), PRE-Treatment EXTent of tumor (PRETEXT) stage IV (vs. PRETEXT I or II; HR, 2.774; 95% CI, 1.228 to 5.974; p=0.009), and presence of metastasis (HR, 2.886; 95% CI, 1.457 to 5.719; p=0.002), which are incorporated as the first three nodes in the CHIC-HS system, were independently associated with EFS. Conclusion The CHIC-HS system aligned significantly well with EFS outcomes in Korean pediatric patients with hepatoblastoma. Age group, PRETEXT stage, and presence of metastasis were independently associated with EFS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The intertextual layers of the stories by N. Gaiman “A Study in Emerald” and Ya. Wagner “A Study in Purple” are examined in this article. It is shown in the article that the intertextual fields of modern texts are allusions, reminiscences, metatextuality, paratextuality, architextuality, as well as onomastic quotations. It is concluded that the images and motives of the classic detective work of the early XX century create a visible intertext in the works of the XXI century and become a central device that generates secondary artistic worlds. It is emphasized that contextual correlation with A. K. Doyle’s story allows modern writers (both English-speaking and Russian-speaking) to create clear projections to the text about the famous detective, expanding the chronotopic organization of their metatexts. Particular attention is paid to the comparative intertextual analysis of the classical text of Arthur Conan Doyle with the stories of modern writers — English (N. Gaiman) and Russian (Ya. Wagner). The novelty of the research is seen in the insufficient appeal of literary science and literary criticism to the analysis of Doyle’s intertextuality and intertextual references to the story “A Study in Scarlet”, in particular. The relevance of the study is also due to the enduring reader’s interest in the detective genre and in the work of Arthur Conan Doyle.

The purpose of the article is to determine the specifi city of the organization of intertextual links of R. Borodulin’s lyrics as an idiostylistic feature, essential for the formation of the artistic content of his poems. The works included in R. Borodulin’s collections of diff erent times have been analyzed on the basis of the positions of the theory of intertextuality developed in text linguistics. The author comes to the conclusion that R. Borodulin’s lyrics are oriented to the folk element – folklore, the texts of which are most often referred to by intertextually marked elements. They can perform various functions, from the creation of a local image to the formation of compositional and / or fi gurative structure of the whole poem, but they are always related to the value orientations of the poet. The Bible and Belarusian literature (texts of predecessors and – to a greater extent – contemporaries) are in the second place in terms of the number of references among the sources of intertextuality. The connection with the biblical pretext is present at all stages of R. Borodulin’s work, but in the course of time such references become more refl ective and commented. Formally, intertextuality is represented by all possible structural types. Among the various forms of intertextuality proper in the works of R. Borodulin the most frequent are allusions. “Playing” upon the titles of collections and individual works of predecessors and contemporaries can be considered as a distinctive feature of R Borodulin’s lyrics. Meanwhile the title quotes do not require the reader to know the pretexts. Parody and elements of parody are widely presented in the collections (including genre parody which is associated with the actualization of “negative” architextual connections).

- Abstract
Background: Undifferentiated embryonal sarcoma of the liver (UESL) is a rare tumor for which there are few evidence-based guidelines. The aim of this study was to define current management strategies and outcomes for these patients using a multi-institutional dataset curated by the Pediatric Surgical Oncology Research Collaborative., Methods: Data were collected retrospectively for patients with UESL treated across 17 children's hospitals in North America from 1989 to 2019. Factors analyzed included patient and tumor characteristics, PRETEXT group, operative details, and neoadjuvant/adjuvant regimens. Event-free and overall survival (EFS, OS) were the primary and secondary outcomes, respectively., Results: Seventy-eight patients were identified with a median age of 9.9 years [interquartile range [IQR): 7-12]. Twenty-seven patients underwent resection at diagnosis, and 47 patients underwent delayed resection, including eight liver transplants. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy led to a median change in maximum tumor diameter of 1.6 cm [IQR: 0.0-4.4] and greater than 90% tumor necrosis in 79% of the patients undergoing delayed resection. R
0 resections were accomplished in 63 patients (81%). Univariate analysis found that metastatic disease impacted OS, and completeness of resection impacted both EFS and OS, while multivariate analysis revealed that R0 resection was associated with decreased expected hazards of experiencing an event [hazard ratio (HR): 0.14, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.04-0.6]. At a median follow-up of 4 years [IQR: 2-8], the EFS was 70.0% [95% CI: 60%-82%] and OS was 83% [95% CI: 75%-93%]., Conclusion: Complete resection is associated with improved survival for patients with UESL. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy causes minimal radiographic response, but significant tumor necrosis., (© 2024 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)- Published

The PRETEXT stage was significant or marginally significant for EFS and OS in the early period but not in the late period. The P, F, R, and C factors were significant for OS and EFS in the early period. However, in the late period, only the P factor was significant for OS, and the F and M factors were significant for EFS. The CHIC‐HS system was significant or marginally significant for EFS in both the early and late periods; however, it was significant for OS only in the early period. Conclusion: Survival rates were significantly improved in children with hepatoblastoma, especially in those with advanced PRETEXT stages with positive annotation factors and in a high‐risk CHIC‐HS group. Prognostic factors had different clinical implications with evolved treatment modalities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Hepatoblastoma is the most common primary hepatic malignancy in the pediatric population. Advances in pathological evaluation, imaging, risk stratification, neo-adjuvant chemotherapy, and surgery including transplantation have improved survival of these children in the western countries. However, a successful outcome in developing countries such as India with limited resources poses great challenges to the clinician and the family. Histology plays a major role in determining the prognosis of these patients. Methods: A retrospective study was done on 10 children diagnosed with hepatoblastoma between January 2010 and December 2015 in our institution. Clinical, laboratory, radiological, histopathological diagnoses, treatment, and outcome data were collected and analyzed. Results: The median age of these children at diagnosis was 11 months, and only 1 child was premature at birth. Most children were presented with abdominal distension. One child had lung metastasis at presentation. Elevated alpha fetoprotein levels were present in 90% of the children. The histological types were fetal, embryonal, macrotrabecular, and mixed epithelial-mesenchymal types. SIOPEL risk stratification was done, which showed 40% of the children to be of high risk. Three children had PRETEXT 1, 2, and 4, respectively. Conclusion: Our study is significant with respect to the information on PRETEXT staging, risk status, and histological favorability. In developing countries with limited resources and low-socioeconomic status, it is important to have a multidisciplinary team approach and tailor treatment to manage these patients effectively and improve the overall survival.

The theme of the contribution is the eroticism in the novel The Camp of Fallen Women (1992, Tábor padlých žien) written by Slovak author Antor Baláž. The novel focuses on the period of the first years of building the socialist regime in Czechoslovakia and depicts the efforts of the incoming regime to re-educate prostitutes from the Vydrica (district of Bratislava) to conscious citizens in the area of forced labour camp Nováky. The labour camp in Nováky is known as the camp of three totalities in which Jews were interned during World War II and from there led transports to German death camps. In the post-war period, Carpathian Germans were placed there before they were transported to Germany. Later it was a forced labour camp for political prisoners and asocial elements, and at the same time the Hungarian Jews were interned there before they emigrated to Israel. On the background of depicted historical events, which the author portrayed in a grotesque way, the dominant motive is eroticism, which is a result of the substance of prostitution. On the other hand, the historical line cannot be forgotten – the depiction of historical events that took place in Czechoslovakia during the first post-war years and which the author depicted on the basis of his long-term study of archival materials and period newspapers from that period. In the year 1997 the novel was adapted into a film version in Laco Halama’s direction. The author of the novel, Anton Baláž, was also the author of the script and it can be said that there is a complex continuity of pretext to posttext. The paper analyses individual shifts in the adaptation of the novel The Camp of Fallen Women, which led to the elimination of the historical essence of the novel and the accentuation of the erotic line. It seems that eroticism and nudity are the dominant theme of the film [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Hepatoblastoma is a rare pediatric cancer. Approximately 100 cases of hepatoblastoma are reported per year. Due to the limited incidence of this disorder an internationally agreed-upon criteria was developed to classify patients as standard or high-risk. Studies involving chemotherapeutic agents, surgery, and liver transplants have been demonstrated to improve the disease-free survival rate. The combination of chemotherapeutic agents and surgery demonstrated the ability of these regimens to downgrade the initial diagnostic staging of tumors and transform previously unresectable tumors into resectable tumors., Case Presentation: The following case of hepatoblastoma presents a 4-year-old male who presented to the emergency department with an upper respiratory infection symptom and was found to have hepatomegaly. The patient was later classified as high-risk, unresectable hepatoblastoma., Conclusion: Hepatoblastoma is a rare liver cancer in children with an annual incidence of 1.5 cases per million. With PRETEXT staging criterion, therapeutic options such as cisplatin/doxorubicin combination, radiotherapy, and lobectomy, have become the standard of care for this condition. Many trials have demonstrated these therapeutic options to successfully improve the survivability rate of patients affected by hepatoblastoma, downgrading tumors from advanced PRETEXT stages and enabling previously unresectable tumors to be considered resectable., Competing Interests: Conflicts of Interest The authors declare they have no conflicts of interest., (© 2023 HCA Physician Services, Inc. d/b/a Emerald Medical Education.)

This article discusses the way two traditional tales were adapted and modified for use as pretexts in the Connected: Adult Language Learning through Drama program (CALLD) with migrant populations, including refugees and asylum seekers, in two sites during 2017 & 2018 in Sydney, Australia. The focus of this article is to explore the way ancient stories such as folktales and myths function in these settings, and how through action and reflection the authors, as teaching artists on the program, adapted these tales to better engage the participants in the process drama that followed. Through a generative conversation the authors discuss this experience, reviewing aspects of the narrative that worked and those that did not, resulting in a deeper understanding about the efficacy of various narrative elements to engage and motivate learning in the CALLD setting. Abstract Hepatoblastomas are complex pediatric tumors with several pathological subtypes, some of which demonstrate differing imaging features and portend varying prognosis. The radiologist plays a major role not only in the pre-surgical evaluation and baseline staging of the tumor, but also in guiding management and evaluating prognosis based on the PRETEXT (pretreatment extent of tumor) classification. We discuss the pathology, imaging features, and baseline evaluation, with a focus on the role of the radiologist in the management of these tumors. Highlights • Hepatoblastoma pathological subtypes can have different imaging findings and prognosis. • The PRETEXT classification helps in prognostication and management of hepatoblastomas. • There is a recent focus on risk-adapted treatment and limiting long-term toxicities in hepatoblastoma management. Introduction: Hepatoblastoma (HB) is the most common primary malignant liver neoplasm in children. Its increasing survival rate is related to the progress in modern imaging, surgical techniques, and new chemotherapy regimens. Clinical approach: One of the past achievements was the development of the pretreatment extension of disease (PRETEXT) system. Gradually, the HB therapeutic approach has become more individualized with better stratification of patients. Controversies: These include the need for preoperative chemotherapy and its optimal duration; intensity of preoperative chemotherapy required for locally advanced cases (PRETEXT 4); optimal surgical treatment for locally advanced tumors: aggressive hepatic resections versus liver transplantation; the role of postoperative chemotherapy in the post-transplant setting; the timing and role of metastasectomy in patients with disseminated disease who undergo partial liver resection; and the prognostic significance of several HB pathology variants. Hepatoblastoma biology: Beta-catenin mutations and the beta-catenin/Wnt pathway play an important role in HB development. There have been at least two molecular signatures in HB published. Unluckily, all of these findings are based on relatively small clinical series and require confirmation. Conclusion: The treatment of HB started from one and the same therapy for all patients and aimed at increased treatment individualization, but the future seems to lie in biology-driven patient-tailored therapies.

The article studies the functional role of biblical reminiscence in Ivan S. Turgenev’s short novel “A Strange Story” (1870). A pretextual function of the Bible and interpretations of certain biblical theses, sayings and maxims are revealed through the artistic analysis of moral choice of Sophie and the embodiment of the existential motif. In the ethics of selfexpression the main character of the short novel relies on the Old Testament dogmas and evangelical preaching as well as asserts her own understanding of the necessity of self-renunciation in the name of implementation of the moral ideal. Sophie’s moral views despite being formed under the infl uence of religious ethics are not limited by the very ethics. Her faith in Christ is accompanied with the consciousness of her duty to people. The biblical ethics of self-dedication is based on antinomy of self-obsession and renunciation of one’s own self. The personal is sacrifi ced for the sake of the public. This unites Sophie with the selfl ess girls, participants of the populist movement, and describes the world perception of a new person of the watershed times in the “national history”.

Consolidation at the level of the Constitution of Ukraine of the principle of ensuring the right to liberty and security of person necessitated the study of its essence and normative content in order to assess the correctness of the legislative approach to formulating the principle at the level of sectoral regulations. The normative content of the principle is enshrined in Art. 12 of the CCP. Analysis of the wording of this article allows us to identify three components of the principle, which reflect its requirements: prohibition, protection, security. The first element of the principle is the provisions of Part 1 of Art. 12 of the CCP. The key concepts that substantively fill this element are the following: restriction of freedom in criminal proceedings is possible only by a reasoned court decision; the reason for such a restriction is the suspicion of committing a criminal offense; restriction of liberty occurs in the manner prescribed by the Criminal Procedure Code. Procedures for restricting the right to liberty are corrected due to the importance of the restricted right. Judicial review proceedings on the prosecution's request to choose precautionary measures restricting liberty are characterized by its active position in proving the circumstances, which is the basis for restricting a person's liberty. The investigating judge, in the presence of a duly motivated and substantiated request, takes an active position solely to verify the information that is the basis of the request. The content of the element of protection consists of the provisions of the law on: the need to bring the detainee to the investigating judge as soon as possible and to check the legality and validity of the restriction of liberty; notification of the detention of the person of her relatives. The third element of the normative content of the principle is formulated in Part 5 of Art. 12 of the CCP. The law provides for criminal liability for knowingly illegal detention, pretext, house arrest or detention (Article 371 of the CPC), as well as the possibility of compensation for damage caused by illegal decisions, actions or omissions of the body carrying out investigative activities, pre-trial investigation, prosecution or court (Article 130 of the CPC).

The article is devoted to the problem of dialogue between religions, which is associated with a wider range of issues as (cor)relations between religions, society and the state. The author concentrates on the case of the Russian Federation, while his paper deals with such issues as how to define subjects of interreligious dialogue, as well as which are its main traits and topics. As intermediate conclusions it could be marked that: (1) the discussion on theological issues and challenges should never be considered as a pretext for mutual rejection; (2) dialectics of tradition and renewal has to be a key topic of conversation; (3) each investigation of ethical issues must take in account the task of prevention of youth extremism, which can probably emerge in some contexts; (4) challenges of progress affect not only religious institutions but also societies as whole.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had far-reaching effects, which are primarily being felt in the functioning of the health service, the organization of social life, and the state of the national economy. It is also worth paying attention to the legal and political consequences which are less obvious and noticeable for average citizens. One of the most important is the change in legislation which entails limiting civil liberties and rights. This article is on empirical proof of how Polish legislation is reducing fundamental rights. The authorities in combatting the pandemic are not using the solutions that appear in the Polish Constitution, but use the non-constitutional form of special laws. The authors, therefore, when discussing the problem refer to US legislation and policy which has the notable example of the Patriot Act which can be interpreted as being a pretext for limiting civil liberties in the name of combating terrorism. As stated, such emergencies as the current pandemic or the threat of terrorism, are used to permanently and significantly reduce civil rights.

Islamic financial institutions (IFIs) are compelled to operate in a highly regulated environment without jeopardizing the Sharīʿah governance framework. To deal with arising challenges, Sharīʿah decision-makers sometimes rely on the doctrine of ḥājah (need) as a device to enact a concessionary ruling. However, critiques argue that ḥājah has been used as a pretext to circumvent Islamic commercial law. This paper is an attempt to develop a possible criterion for making a legitimate need-based Sharīʿah solution for IFIs. The research concluded that a Sharīʿah vetted ḥājah can be leveraged by Sharīʿah decision-makers as a tool to address a legitimate challenge faced by individuals or corporations keeping in view the proposed parameters.

This article was written with the aim of knowing the dynamics of deforestation in Brazil, especially the Amazon forest, and to find out the driving factors for deforestation in the Amazon rainforest in 2019 from a critical perspective. The Amazon rain forest is reported to have led to massive deforestation using massive forest burning instruments in 2019, sparking reactions from various international elements. To simplify the analysis in this article, the author uses the concept of captal expansion from David Harvey and to further clarify the problem in this article the author adds the concept of deforestation from William Laurance, the writer uses descriptive analytical research methods and uses secondary data sources. In this article, the authors find various correlations between the interests of the Brazilian government and the interests of multinational companies that lead to encouragement of land clearing in various forests, especially the Amazon, on the pretext of meeting world food demand and efforts to restore Brazilian economic instability as justification.

The COVID-19 pandemic has not only caused millions to die and even more to lose their jobs, it has also prompted more governments to simultaneously declare a state of emergency than ever before enabling us to compare their decisions more directly. States of emergency usually imply the extension of executive powers that diminishes the powers of other branches of government, as well as to the civil liberties of individuals. Here, we analyze the use of emergency provisions during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and find that it can be largely explained by drawing on political economy. It does, hence, not constitute an exception. We show that many governments have (mis-)used the pandemic as a pretext to curtail media freedom. We further show that executive decrees are considered as a substitute for states of emergency by many governments.

Będzie to jednocześnie akt inaugurujący czas ostateczny Boga. Święty Paweł widzi wprawdzie kontynuację pomiędzy starym a nowym stworzeniem, odrzuca jednak podobieństwo psychiczno-fizycznej natury człowieka do duchowego ciała, które otrzymał Zmartwychwstały Chrystus.

The article deals with transforming the primary text into a parody - the introduction of the paradigm of critical assessment of pretext into the primary text. This paradigm is derived using the paradigmatic analysis of vocabulary, highlighting the means of the text that form a specific system of images for the reader. Parody is of particular interest for the paradigmatic analysis of vocabulary since it refers to the so-called secondary texts - texts created on the material of other texts, already available. When creating a secondary text, various elements are borrowed from the original text, such as lexemes, phrases, etc., and lexical paradigms that undergo various transformations in the secondary text. However, a paradigm in parody is inherent exclusively in texts of this type - the paradigm of critical assessment of the pretext. A critical assessment of the pretext is extremely important for forming a parody since one of its main distinguishing features is controversial to the original text. To study the role of the critical appraisal paradigm, we took parodies of A. Ivanov on the verses of E. Yevtushenko. The study of this material has shown that the paradigm of critical assessment of the pretext is inherent exclusively in parodies and is used to form the effect of distancing the reader from the original text; pretext begins to be perceived not as a text itself, but as an object for outside consideration and criticism. The explicitly expressed paradigm of critical assessment of the pretext can also be accompanied by the paradigm of comic reduction, which forms a comic effect in parody, but this paradigm in the text is optional. On the other hand, critical assessment in the text is obligatory since it is due to this paradigm that polemic is formed, obligatory for parodic texts.,

Conservators, museologists, and architects make extremely complex decisions capable of affecting the way people perceive monuments. One might give this idea deeper consideration while pondering anastylosis. One of the things a designer should do when selecting a method of merging together parts of a damaged monument is answer the question whether the chosen method will facilitate the interest of onlookers in the presented object. In which case will the observers spend most of their time looking at the authentic relic fragments and distinguishing between the old and the new parts? The definitions in force do not explain how to approach this topic. By using eye-tracking research, we can learn how observers look at historical objects that have been reassembled again. By combining the observation of visual behaviours with a survey of people looking at such objects, it is possible to see how the process of classifying what is new and old actually works. This knowledge allows for more conscious approach to heritage management processes. In future, results of eye-tracking experiments should help experts plan sustainable conservation projects. Thanks to knowing the reactions of regular people, one will be able to establish conservation programmes in which the material preservation of a monument will reflect the way in which this object affects contemporary onlookers. Such an approach ought to result in real social and economic benefits.

The justification a speaker offers for a given action, stance, or identity may serve the discursive purpose of veiling motivating reasons or rhetorically appealing to the audience. This dissertation defines such speech as ‘pretext,’ presenting ten tests for identifying pretext rhetorically rather than psychologically, then demonstrates through the example of religion the stakes of treating such justifications as reflecting motivating reasons rather than constituting a rhetorical trick. I argue that the naturalized concept we call ‘religion’ is a modern European construct with ten identifiable characteristics; this ‘religion’ enjoys epistemic privilege that makes it a potentially dangerous basis for pretext. Examples from social, legal, and literary texts show that audiences tend to evaluate ‘religiously’ justified actions and ethical stances as valid or incontrovertible, even when those justifications fall into the discursive category of pretext. Chapter One, “Fallacy of Justification: ‘Pretext,’” bridges rhetoric, epistemology, and linguistics to define pretext. Diverging from past scholarship, I define pretext rhetorically, by how that category of justification functions in spoken and written texts, rather than analyzing a speaker’s psychology. I design ten tests for identifying pretexts in discourse, conduct a discourse analysis of how scholars use the term in relevant literature, and read pretext against core rhetorical theory. Chapter Two, “The Privileged Space of ‘Religion,’” responds to discourses of religion scholarship in arguing that the epistemically privileged world that ‘religion’ creates for itself is a historical and conceptual mistake with dangerous ethical implications. Beginning with evidence that what we call ‘religion’ is an Enlightenment European construct, I identify ten common characteristics of the construct, then proceed to argue that ‘religious’ justifications for imperialism are fallacious, the concept’s epistemic privilege is undeserved, ‘religious’ pretexts can have dangerous implications, and there are strong reasons to be suspicious of ‘religious’ pretexts. Chapter Three, “Religious Pretext for Imperialist Violence in Science Fiction,” systematically applies the previous two chapters’ theoretical interventions to two objects of science fiction literature: Mary Doria Russell’s The Sparrow (1996) and Octavia Estelle Butler’s Lilith’s Brood trilogy (1987-1989). For each text, I analyze the discursive construction of a ‘religion’ with reference to my ten characteristics of ‘religion,’ then examine how these constructed ‘religions’ serve as sources of pretext for imperialism.Chapter Four, “Clearing up Pretext and ‘Religion’ through Scientology,” echoes this methodology with a border case between ‘religion’ and science fiction: the Church of Scientology. In conversation with scholarship on New Religious Movements, science fiction studies, and American studies, I systematically trace the discursive construction of Scientology as a ‘religion.’ Presenting evidence of how Scientologists use the institution’s status as a ‘religion’ pretextually, and their ‘religion’ as a basis for pretexts for imperialism and other violence reinforces the dissertation’s overarching argument. The conclusion suggests how readers can generalize the four chapters’ analyses and apply this dissertation’s central theoretical contributions that critique how audiences think about ‘religion’ and pretext.

In today's society, children have a special place and it is no longer the case that the child is considered a family property rather, the child is an individual with his or her personality and social status and the rights that society has for him/her. But what matters is whether the rights in our society are sufficient for children and just by telling them can it stabilize the child's position within society and save him from any attack? What should be accepted without question is that the answer is no. Because children need special rights and special protections because of their age and physical and intellectual weakness and if there is no executive guarantee to protect them, of course, not only will these rights not be respected, but they will also be violated and children who are more vulnerable than others suffer a lot. What this research specifically focuses on, a comprehensive review of child and adolescent protection law whereas, following the international obligations our country has committed to and adhered to in compliance with the convention on the rights of the child in 2000, it was approved by the Islamic Consultative Assembly in 2003. The author's attempt has been to under the pretext of reviewing and evaluating the aforementioned law, evading the existing penal regulations regarding the protection of children and adolescents in the Iranian penal system and thereby evaluate the weaknesses of the aforementioned laws and thus help the legislator to develop and enforce laws protecting certain vulnerable groups such as children. The hepatoblastoma is the hepatic tumor more prevalent in infancy. The stage of the hepatoblastoma is based upon the PRETEXT system. Stage IV is considered not surgical and confers the worst prognosis. The treatment of this stage is based in neoadjuvant quimiotherapy and posterior partial or total hepatectomia plus hepatic transplantation, accordingly with the POSTEXT. We report the case of a toddler with stage IV quimiosensitive hepatoblastoma, with invasion of the retrohepatic vena cava and pulmonary metastasis who underwent a right trisegmentectomy with resection of the retrohepatic vena cava. This procedure was allowed by the presence of collateral circulation provide for the acigus vena, offering a curative option for our patient. The resection of the retrohepatic vena cava could be a feasible and useful alternative to allow partial hepatectomia with clean boards, and offer a potential cure in selected patients.
