Carborane-containing dendrons based on a 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)propanoic acid (bis-MPA) scaffold is prepared in boron neutron capture therapy. The structure of this dendron is simulated by molecular dynamics and a 10-carbon linker carrying carboxylic group is installed at the focal point of dendron to distance attached point from sterically hindered core.

The structural, electronic, and energetic properties of cadmium ion complexes with one and two protonated and deprotonated 3-mercaptopropionic acid ligands are studied theoretically in the framework of density functional theory by using the B3LYP exchange-correlation functional coupled with 6-311++G Gaussian orbital basis sets for C, H, O, and S atoms and LANL2DZ for the metal ion.

The gas-phase reactions of protonated hydroxylamine, N[H.sub.3]O[H.sup.+], with acetic and propanoic acids that yield protonated glycine and alanine, Gly[H.sub.+] and Ala[H.sup.+], are described. The results have indicated that Gly and [beta]-Ala found in carbonaceous chondrite meteorites are products of interstellar chemistry.

The rapid and efficient synthesis of heterobofunctional 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)propanoic acid (bis-HMPA) dendrimers derived from a cyclic carbonate periphery is described. The symmetric carbonate periphery has reacted with primary amines to produce bifunctional dendrimers and this method has yielded a dendrimer bearing both alkynes and protected aldehydes for orthogonal ligation reactions.

A study was conducted to investigate the esterification of ethylene glycol with propionic acid in supercritical C[O.sub.2] at 50 degree Celsius. The solvent power of C[O.sub.2] for the diester is found to be stronger than that for the monoester because C[O.sub.2] is a nonpolar solvent and polarity of the monoester is stronger than that of the diester.
