Abstract

La sequenza sismica verificatasi in Emilia Romagna, Lombardia e Veneto a partire dal Maggio 2012, culminata con ledue tragiche scosse del 20 e 29 maggio, ha provocato 27 morti, 350 feriti e 16.000 senzatetto. Sono stati finora valutatidanni per 13,2 miliardi di Euro. Abstract A seismic sequence occurred in Emilia Romagna, Lombardia and Veneto regions since May 2012. The culminating events were two tragic mainshocks on May 20th and May 29th, resulting in 27 dead, 350 injuried and over 16,000 homeless. As of this writing, a total damage of 13.2 billion euros was assessed. Unfortunately, catastrophic consequences of earthquakes are not uncommon in Italy. The 2012 seismic sequence was one among the first cases in which social network and communication technologies were used to convey information about tragedy and to support rescue operations as well as self-organization of affected communities.

Abstract

The treatment of patients with chronic migraine associated with medication overuse is challenging in clinical practice; different strategies of treatment have been recently developed, multidisciplinary treatment approaches have been developed in academic headache centers. Education and support of patients are necessary to improve patients' adherence to pharmacological treatments as well as to non-pharmacological therapies. This study reports a clinical experience conducted at our Headache center with a group of female patients, suffering from chronic migraine complicated by medication overuse, treated by a multidisciplinary approach and followed for a period of 1 year after withdrawal. Results confirm the efficacy of a multifaceted treatment to manage this problematic category of patients.

Abstract

Chronic migraine with medication overuse is a difficult problem to manage. Different withdrawal approaches have been tried, with different results. Withdrawal in a day-hospital setting is a recent modality. Results obtained from this last approach have been encouraging. Behavioral techniques combined with pharmacological therapies are effective to enforce the clinical improvement in chronic migraine patients with medication overuse. In this study, a clinical experience where day-hospital withdrawal is followed by pharmacological treatment and on the other side pharmacological treatment is combined with behavioral approach is discussed.
