Abstract: KM3NeT/ORCA is a water Cherenkov neutrino detector under construction and anchored at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. The detector is designed to study oscillations of atmospheric neutrinos and determine the neutrino mass ordering. This paper focuses on an initial configuration of ORCA, referred to as ORCA6, which comprises six out of the foreseen 115 detection units of photo-sensors. A high-purity neutrino sample was extracted, corresponding to an exposure of 433 kton-years. The sample of 5828 neutrino candidates is analysed following a binned log-likelihood method in the reconstructed energy and cosine of the zenith angle. The atmospheric oscillation parameters are measured to be $\sin^2\theta_{23}= 0.51^{+0.04}_{-0.05}$, and $ \Delta m^2_{31} = 2.14^{+0.25}_{-0.35}\times 10^{-3}~\mathrm{eV^2} \cup \{-2.25,-1.76\}\times 10^{-3}~\mathrm{eV^2}$ at 68\% CL. Abstract: Gamma-ray bursts are promising candidate sources of high-energy astrophysical neutrinos. The recent GRB 221009A event, identified as the brightest gamma-ray burst ever detected, provides a unique opportunity to investigate hadronic emissions involving neutrinos. The KM3NeT undersea neutrino detectors participated in the worldwide follow-up effort triggered by the event, searching for neutrino events. In this letter, we summarize subsequent searches, in a wide energy range from MeV up to a few PeVs. No neutrino events are found in any of the searches performed. 3. MPXGAT: An Attention based Deep Learning Model for Multiplex Graphs Embedding

Abstract: Graph representation learning has rapidly emerged as a pivotal field of study. Despite its growing popularity, the majority of research has been confined to embedding single-layer graphs, which fall short in representing complex systems with multifaceted relationships. To bridge this gap, we introduce MPXGAT, an innovative attention-based deep learning model tailored to multiplex graph embedding. Leveraging the robustness of Graph Attention Networks (GATs), MPXGAT captures the structure of multiplex networks by harnessing both intra-layer and inter-layer connections. This exploitation facilitates accurate link prediction within and across the network's multiple layers. Our comprehensive experimental evaluation, conducted on various benchmark datasets, confirms that MPXGAT consistently outperforms state-of-the-art competing algorithms.

Abstract: The KM3NeT/ARCA neutrino detector is currently under construction at 3500 m depth offshore Capo Passero, Sicily, in the Mediterranean Sea. The main science objectives are the detection of high-energy cosmic neutrinos and the discovery of their sources. Simulations were conducted for the full KM3NeT/ARCA detector, instrumenting a volume of 1 km$^3$, to estimate the sensitivity and discovery potential to point-like neutrino sources and an all-sky diffuse neutrino flux. This paper covers the reconstruction of track- and shower-like signatures, as well as the criteria employed for neutrino event selection. By leveraging both the track and shower observation channels, the KM3NeT/ARCA detector demonstrates the capability to detect the diffuse astrophysical neutrino flux within half a year of operation, achieving a 5$\sigma$ statistical significance. With an angular resolution below 0.1$^\circ$ for tracks and under 2$^\circ$ for showers, the sensitivity to point-like neutrino sources surpasses existing observed limits across the entire sky., Comment: 20 pages, 30 figures Submitted to EPJ-C

Abstract: The KM3NeT neutrino telescope is currently being deployed at two different sites in the Mediterranean Sea. First searches for astrophysical neutrinos have been performed using data taken with the partial detector configuration already in operation. The paper presents the results of two independent searches for neutrinos from compact binary mergers detected during the third observing run of the LIGO and Virgo gravitational wave interferometers. The first search looks for a global increase in the detector counting rates that could be associated with inverse beta decay events generated by MeV-scale electron anti-neutrinos. The second one focuses on upgoing track-like events mainly induced by muon (anti-)neutrinos in the GeV--TeV energy range. Both searches yield no significant excess for the sources in the gravitational wave catalogs. For each source, upper limits on the neutrino flux and on the total energy emitted in neutrinos in the respective energy ranges have been set. Stacking analyses of binary black hole mergers and neutron star-black hole mergers have also been performed to constrain the characteristic neutrino emission from these categories., Comment: 19 pages, 11 figures

Abstract: The Cherenkov Telescope Array and the KM3NeT neutrino telescopes are major upcoming facilities in the fields of $\gamma$-ray and neutrino astronomy, respectively. Possible simultaneous production of $\gamma$ rays and neutrinos in astrophysical accelerators of cosmic-ray nuclei motivates a combination of their data. We assess the potential of a combined analysis of CTA and KM3NeT data to determine the contribution of hadronic emission processes in known Galactic $\gamma$-ray emitters, comparing this result to the cases of two separate analyses. In doing so, we demonstrate the capability of Gammapy, an open-source software package for the analysis of $\gamma$-ray data, to also process data from neutrino telescopes. For a selection of prototypical $\gamma$-ray sources within our Galaxy, we obtain models for primary proton and electron spectra in the hadronic and leptonic emission scenario, respectively, by fitting published $\gamma$-ray spectra. Using these models and instrument response functions for both detectors, we employ the Gammapy package to generate pseudo data sets, where we assume 200 hours of CTA observations and 10 years of KM3NeT detector operation. We then apply a three-dimensional binned likelihood analysis to these data sets, separately for each instrument and jointly for both. We find that the largest benefit of the combined analysis lies in the possibility of a consistent modelling of the $\gamma$-ray and neutrino emission. Assuming a purely leptonic scenario as input, we obtain, for the most favourable source, an average expected 68% credible interval that constrains the contribution of hadronic processes to the observed $\gamma$-ray emission to below 15%., Comment: 20 pages, 16 figures. v2: Matches version published in EPJC

8. On semi-classical limit of spatially homogeneous quantum Boltzmann equation: asymptotic expansion

Abstract: We continue our previous work [Ling-Bing He, Xuguang Lu and Mario Pulvirenti, Comm. Math. Phys., 386(2021), no. 1, 143223.] on the limit of the spatially homogeneous quantum Boltzmann equation as the Planck constant $\epsilon$ tends to zero, also known as the semi-classical limit. For general interaction potential, we prove the following: (i). The spatially homogeneous quantum Boltzmann equations are locally well-posed in some weighted Sobolev spaces with quantitative estimates uniformly in $\epsilon$. (ii). The semi-classical limit can be further described by the following asymptotic expansion formula: $$ f^\epsilon(t,v)=f_L(t,v)+O(\epsilon^{\vartheta}).$$ This holds locally in time in Sobolev spaces. Here $f^\epsilon$ and $f_L$ are solutions to the quantum Boltzmann equation and the Fokker-Planck-Landau equation with the same initial data.The convergent rate $0<\vartheta \leq 1$ depends on the integrability of the Fourier transform of the particle interaction potential. Abstract: The KM3NeT Collaboration is building and operating two deep sea neutrino telescopes at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. The telescopes consist of latices of photomultiplier tubes housed in pressure-resistant glass spheres, called digital optical modules and arranged in vertical detection units. The two main scientific goals are the determination of the neutrino mass ordering and the discovery and observation of high-energy neutrino sources in the Universe. Neutrinos are detected via the Cherenkov light, which is induced by charged particles originated in neutrino interactions. The photomultiplier tubes convert the Cherenkov light into electrical signals that are acquired and timestamped by the acquisition electronics. Each optical module houses the acquisition electronics for collecting and timestamping the photomultiplier signals with one nanosecond accuracy. Once finished, the two telescopes will have installed more than six thousand optical acquisition nodes, completing one of the more complex networks in the world in terms of operation and synchronization. The embedded software running in the acquisition nodes has been designed to provide a framework that will operate with different hardware versions and functionalities. The hardware will not be accessible once in operation, which complicates the embedded software architecture. The embedded software provides a set of tools to facilitate remote manageability of the deployed hardware, including safe reconfiguration of the firmware. This paper presents the architecture and the techniques, methods and implementation of the embedded software running in the acquisition nodes of the KM3NeT neutrino telescopes.

Abstract: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is one of the most diagnosed forms of leukemia worldwide and it is usually classified into two forms: indolent and aggressive. These two forms are characterized by distinct molecular features that drive different responses to treatment and clinical outcomes. In this context, a better understanding of the molecular landscape of the CLL forms may potentially lead to the development of new drugs or the identification of novel biomarkers. Human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) are a class of transposable elements that have been associated with the development of different human cancers, including different forms of leukemias. However, no studies about HERVs in CLL have ever been reported so far. Here, we present the first locus-specific profiling of HERV expression in both the aggressive and indolent forms of CLL. Our analyses revealed several dysregulations in HERV expression occurring in CLL and some of them were specific for either the aggressive or indolent form of CLL. Such results were also validated by analyzing an external cohort of CLL patients and by RT-qPCR. Moreover, in silico analyses have shown relevant signaling pathways associated with them suggesting a potential involvement of the dysregulated HERVs in these pathways and consequently in CLL development.

Abstract: Abstract The measurement of the flux of muons produced in cosmic ray air showers is essential for the study of primary cosmic rays. Such measurements are important in extensive air shower detectors to assess the energy spectrum and the chemical composition of the cosmic ray flux, complementary to the information provided by fluorescence detectors. Detailed simulations of the cosmic ray air showers are carried out, using codes such as CORSIKA, to estimate the muon flux at sea level. These simulations are based on the choice of hadronic interaction models, for which improvements have been implemented in the post-LHC era. In this work, a deficit in simulations that use state-of-the-art QCD models with respect to the measurement deep underwater with the KM3NeT neutrino detectors is reported. The KM3NeT/ARCA and KM3NeT/ORCA neutrino telescopes are sensitive to TeV muons originating mostly from primary cosmic rays with energies around 10 TeV. The predictions of state-of-the-art QCD models show that the deficit with respect to the data is constant in zenith angle; no dependency on the water overburden is observed. The observed deficit at a depth of several kilometres is compatible with the deficit seen in the comparison of the simulations and measurements at sea level.

Abstract: Abstract Effective antibody responses are essential to generate protective humoral immunity. Different inflammatory signals polarize T cells towards appropriate effector phenotypes during an infection or immunization. Th1 and Th2 cells have been associated with the polarization of humoral responses. However, T follicular helper cells (Tfh) have a unique ability to access the B cell follicle and support the germinal center (GC) responses by providing B cell help. We investigated the specialization of Tfh cells induced under type-1 and type-2 conditions. We first studied homogenous Tfh cell populations generated by adoptively transferred TCR-transgenic T cells in mice immunized with type-1 and type-2 adjuvants. Using a machine learning approach, we established a gene expression signature that discriminates Tfh cells polarized towards type-1 and type-2 response, defined as Tfh1 and Tfh2 cells. The distinct signatures of Tfh1 and Tfh2 cells were validated against datasets of Tfh cells induced following lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV) or helminth infection. We generated single-cell and spatial transcriptomics datasets to dissect the heterogeneity of Tfh cells and their localization under the two immunizing conditions. Besides a distinct specialization of GC Tfh cells under the two immunizations and in different regions of the lymph nodes, we found a population of Gzmk+ Tfh cells specific for type-1 conditions. In human individuals, we could equally identify CMV-specific Tfh cells that expressed Gzmk. Our results show that Tfh cells acquire a specialized function under distinct types of immune responses and with particular properties within the B cell follicle and the GC.

Abstract: In the era of precision measurements of the neutrino oscillation parameters, upcoming neutrino experiments will also be sensitive to physics beyond the Standard Model. KM3NeT/ORCA is a neutrino detector optimised for measuring atmospheric neutrinos from a few GeV to around 100 GeV. In this paper, the sensitivity of the KM3NeT/ORCA detector to neutrino decay has been explored. A three-flavour neutrino oscillation scenario, where the third neutrino mass state $\nu_3$ decays into an invisible state, e.g. a sterile neutrino, is considered. We find that KM3NeT/ORCA would be sensitive to invisible neutrino decays with $1/\alpha_3=\tau_3/m_3 < 180$~$\mathrm{ps/eV}$ at $90\%$ confidence level, assuming true normal ordering. Finally, the impact of neutrino decay on the precision of KM3NeT/ORCA measurements for $\theta_{23}$, $\Delta m^2_{31}$ and mass ordering have been studied. Abstract: In [Phys. Rev. 94 (1954), 511-525], P.L. Bhatnagar, E.P. Gross and M. Krook introduced a kinetic equation (the BGK equation), effective in physical situations where the Knudsen number is small compared to the scales where Boltzmann's equation can be applied, but not enough for using hydrodynamic equations. In this paper, we consider the stochastic particle system (inhomogeneous Kac model) underlying Bird's direct simulation Monte Carlo method (DSMC), with tuning of the scaled variables yielding kinetic and/or hydrodynamic descriptions. Although the BGK equation cannot be obtained from pure scaling, it does follow from a simple modification of the dynamics. 20. Propagation of chaos for topological interactions by a coupling technique

Abstract: We consider a system of particles which interact through a jump process. The jump intensities are functions of the proximity rank of the particles, a type of interaction referred to as topological in the literature. Such interactions have been shown relevant for the modelling of bird flocks. We show that, in the large number of particles limit and under minimal smoothness assumptions on the data, the model converges to a kinetic equation which was derived in earlier works both formally and rigorously under more stringent regularity assumptions. The proof relies on the coupling method which assigns to the particle and limiting processes a joint process posed on the cartesian product of the two configuration spaces of the former processes. By appropriate estimates in a suitable Wasserstein metric, we show that the distance between the two processes tends to zero as the number of particles tends to infinity, with an error typical of the law of large numbers.

23. Metastability of Glauber dynamics with inhomogeneous coupling disorder

Abstract: We introduce a general class of mean-field-like spin systems with random couplings that comprises both the Ising model on inhomogeneous dense random graphs and the randomly diluted Hopfield model. We are interested in quantitative estimates of metastability in large volumes at fixed temperatures when these systems evolve according to a Glauber dynamics, i.e.\ where spins flip with Metropolis transition probabilities at inverse temperature $\beta$. We identify conditions ensuring that with high probability the system behaves like the corresponding system where the random couplings are replaced by their averages. More precisely, we prove that the metastability of the former system is implied with high probability by the metastability of the latter. Moreover, we consider relevant metastable hitting times of the two systems and find the asymptotic tail behaviour and the moments of their ratio. This work provides an extension of the results known for the Ising model on the Erd\H{o}s--R{\'e}nyi random graph. Abstract: IntroductionMetabolic reprogramming is a hallmark feature of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). A pancreatic juice (PJ) metabolic signature has been reported to be prognostic of oncological outcome for PDAC. Integration of PJ profiling with transcriptomic and spatial characterization of the tumor microenvironment would help in identifying PDACs with peculiar vulnerabilities.MethodsWe performed a transcriptomic analysis of 26 PDAC samples grouped into 3 metabolic clusters (M_CL) according to their PJ metabolic profile. We analyzed molecular subtypes and transcriptional differences. Validation was performed by multidimensional imaging on tumor slides.ResultsPancreatic juice metabolic profiling was associated with PDAC transcriptomic molecular subtypes (p=0.004). Tumors identified as M_CL1 exhibited a non-squamous molecular phenotype and demonstrated longer survival. Enrichment analysis revealed the upregulation of immune genes and pathways in M_CL1 samples compared to M_CL2, the group with worse prognosis, a difference confirmed by immunofluorescence on tissue slides. Enrichment analysis of 39 immune signatures by xCell confirmed decreased immune signatures in M_CL2 compared to M_CL1 and allowed a stratification of patients associated with longer survival.DiscussionPJ metabolic fingerprints reflect PDAC molecular subtypes and the immune microenvironment, confirming PJ as a promising source of biomarkers for personalized therapy.

25. Modelled effectiveness of NbS in reducing disaster risk: Evidence from the OPERANDUM project

Abstract: The use of nature-based solutions (NbS) to address the risks posed by hydro-meteorological hazards have not yet become part of the mainstream policy response, and one of the main reasons cited for this, is the lack of evidence that they can effectively reduce disaster risk. This paper addresses this issue, by providing model-based evidence from five European case studies which demonstrate the effectiveness of five different NbS in reducing the magnitude of the hazard and thus risk, in present-day and possible future climates. In OAL-Austria, the hazard is a deep-seated landslide, and the NbS analysed is afforestation. Modelling results show that in today's climate and a landcover scenario of mature forest, a reduction in landslide velocity of 27.6 % could be achieved. In OAL-Germany, the hazard is river flooding and the NbS analysed is managed grazing with removal of woody vegetation. Modelling results show that the NbS could potentially reduce maximum flood water depth in the near-future (2031–2060) and far-future (2070–2099), by 0.036 m and 0.155 m, respectively. In OAL-Greece, the hazard is river flooding, and the NbS is upscaled natural storage reservoirs. Modelling results show that in a possible future climate the upscaled NbS show most potential in reducing the total flooded area by up to 1.26 km2. In OAL-Ireland, the hazard is surface and river flooding, and the NbS is green roofs. Results from a modelled upscaling analysis under two different climate scenarios show that both maximum flood water depth, and total flooded area were able to be reduced. In OAL-UK, the hazard is shallow landslides, and the NbS is high-density planting of two different tree species. Modelling results under two different climate scenarios show that both tree species were able to improve slope stability, and that this increased over time as the NbS matured. The significance of these results is discussed within the context of the performance of the NbS over time, to different magnitude events, impact with stakeholders in engendering wider support for the adoption of the NbS in the OALs, and the uncertainty in the modelling analyses.

Abstract: In recent years, Machine Learning (ML) techniques have gained increasing popularity in several fields thanks to their ability to find hidden and complex relationships between data. Their capabilities for solving complex optimization tasks have made them extremely attractive also for the design of the Energy Management System (EMS) of electrified vehicles. Among the plethora of existing techniques, Reinforcement Learning (RL) algorithms have unprecedented potential since they can self-learn by directly interacting with the external environment through a trial-and-error procedure. In this paper, a Deep Q-Learning (DQL) agent, which exploits Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) to map the state-action pair to its value, was trained to reduce the CO2 emissions of a state-of-the-art diesel Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) available on the European market. The proposed methodology was tested on a virtual test rig of the investigated vehicle while operating on a charge-sustaining logic. A sensitivity analysis was performed on the reward to test the capabilities of different penalty functions to improve the fuel economy while guaranteeing the battery charge sustainability. The potential of the proposed control strategy was firstly assessed on the Worldwide harmonized Light-duty vehicles Test Cycle (WLTC) and benchmarked against a Dynamic Programming (DP) optimization to evaluate each reward. Then the best agent was tested on a wide range of type-approval and Read Driving Emission (RDE) scenarios. The results show that the best-performing agent can reach performance close to the DP reference, with a limited gap (7 %) in terms of CO2 emissions.

Abstract: Research on graph representation learning has received great attention in recent years. However, most of the studies so far have focused on the embedding of single-layer graphs. The few studies dealing with the problem of representation learning of multilayer structures rely on the strong hypothesis that the inter-layer links are known, and this limits the range of possible applications. Here we propose MultiSAGE, a generalization of the GraphSAGE algorithm that allows to embed multiplex networks. We show that MultiSAGE is capable to reconstruct both the intra-layer and the inter-layer connectivity, outperforming GraphSAGE, which has been designed for simple graphs. Next, through a comprehensive experimental analysis, we shed light also on the performance of the embedding, both in simple and in multiplex networks, showing that either the density of the graph or the randomness of the links strongly influences the quality of the embedding.

Abstract: We consider a simple stochastic $N$-particle system, already studied by the same authors in \cite{CPS21}, representing different populations of agents. Each agent has a label describing his state of health. We show rigorously that, in the limit $N \to \infty$, propagation of chaos holds, leading to a set of kinetic equations which are a spatially inhomogeneous version of the classical SIR model. We improve a similar result obtained in \cite{CPS21} by using here a different coupling technique, which makes the analysis simpler, more natural and transparent.

Abstract: AbstractBackground The Loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) is a marine reptile belonging to a monophyletic group of chelonians. As these animals are long-lived, they have the ability to accumulate pollutants.Aim To collect epidemiological data on toxic metals in marine Loggerhead sea turtles.Materials and Methods Forty Loggerhead sea turtles comprising 25 males and 15 females stranded freshly dead between 2013 and 2018 along the coasts of Sicily, Southern Italy, were examined for arsenic, cadmium, and lead accumulation in muscle and adipose tissues by means of a validated ICP-MS method. A modified K index as a growth condition factor, namely Fulton’s K index, was used. Samples were tested in duplicate. A Wilcoxon rank sum test was carried out to evaluate metal contents differences between muscle and adipose tissues and between genders.Results The Fulton’s K index suggested a good body condition of the C. caretta recovered with mean values of 5.34 ± 3.40 (n = 40; ±SD). Detectable concentrations of lead were found in 70% of the samples analysed with mean values of 0.65 ± 1.67 mg/kg wet weight and 0.51 ± 1.29 mg/kg wet weight in muscle and adipose tissues, respectively. No significant differences in arsenic, cadmium, and lead were detected between genders. In addition, no significant correlation was found between modified K index and concentrations of arsenic, cadmium, and lead.Clinical relevance Findings on muscle and adipose tissues suggest chronic exposure of Caretta caretta to high concentrations of especially lead which might negatively affect health and welfare of these marine turtles although body condition was good.

Abstract: Sicily ranks as the third-largest region in Italy for olive growing and olive oil production, holding the second position nationally regarding the number of active olive oil mills. This pioneering study integrates spatial and economic analyses to examine the geographical distribution of olive oil mills in Sicily and their relationship with the localization of olive groves. Using Local Indicators of Spatial Association (LISA), we conducted an advanced analysis of spatial patterns of olive oil mills, considering travel time on the road network. The adopted methodology addresses issues related to overestimation based on straight-line assumptions and the neglect of travel speed. Unlike traditional Euclidean distance approaches, our methodology provides a detailed understanding of the spatial relationships between olive oil mills and olive groves, revealing distinct patterns linked to elevation and proximity to olive groves. By linking profitability indicators with spatial clusters, we identify different thresholds of economic sustainability. Consequently, these findings contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the olive oil industry, suggesting more environmentally sustainable practices. Policymakers, researchers, and industry stakeholders can leverage this knowledge to make informed decisions that foster the long-term sustainability of the olive oil sector.

Patients with Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID) suffer from respiratory and intestinal tract infections, leading to chronic diseases and increased mortality rates. While CVID patients’ gut microbiota have been analyzed, data on the respiratory microbiome ecosystem are limited.ObjectiveThis study aims to analyze the bacterial composition of the oropharynx of adults with CVID and its link with clinical and immunological features and risk for respiratory acute infections.MethodsOropharyngeal samples from 72 CVID adults and 26 controls were collected in a 12-month prospective study. The samples were analyzed by metagenomic bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA sequencing and processed using the Quantitative Insights Into Microbial Ecology (QIME) pipeline. Differentially abundant species were identified and used to build a dysbiosis index. A machine learning model trained on microbial abundance data was used to test the power of microbiome alterations to distinguish between healthy individuals and CVID patients.ResultsCompared to controls, the oropharyngeal microbiome of CVID patients showed lower alpha- and beta-diversity, with a relatively increased abundance of the order Lactobacillales, including the family Streptococcaceae. Intra-CVID analysis identified age >45 years, COPD, lack of IgA, and low residual IgM as associated with a reduced alpha diversity. Expansion of Haemophilus and Streptococcus genera was observed in patients with undetectable IgA and COPD, independent from recent antibiotic use. Patients receiving azithromycin as antibiotic prophylaxis had a higher dysbiosis score. Expansion of Haemophilus and Anoxybacillus was associated with acute respiratory infections within six months.ConclusionsCVID patients showed a perturbed oropharynx microbiota enriched with potentially pathogenic bacteria and decreased protective species. Low residual levels of IgA/IgM, chronic lung damage, anti antibiotic prophylaxis contributed to respiratory dysbiosis.

Abstract: IntroductionThe use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for assessing and treating cognitive and motor disorders is promoting home-based telerehabilitation. This approach involves ongoing monitoring within a motivating context to help patients generalize their skills. It can also reduce healthcare costs and geographic barriers by minimizing hospitalization. This systematic review focuses on investigating key aspects of telerehabilitation protocols for children with neurodevelopmental or neurological disorders, including technology used, outcomes, caregiver involvement, and dosage, to guide clinical practice and future research.MethodThis systematic review adhered to PRISMA guidelines and was registered in PROSPERO. The PICO framework was followed to define the search strategy for technology-based telerehabilitation interventions targeting the pediatric population (aged 0–18) with neurological or neurodevelopmental disorders. The search encompassed Medline/PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases. Independent reviewers were responsible for selecting relevant papers and extracting data, while data harmonization and analysis were conducted centrally.ResultsA heterogeneous and evolving situation emerged from our data. Our findings reported that most of the technologies adopted for telerehabilitation are commercial devices; however, research prototypes and clinical software were also employed with a high potential for personalization and treatment efficacy. The efficacy of these protocols on health or health-related domains was also explored by categorizing the outcome measures according to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF). Most studies targeted motor and neuropsychological functions, while only a minority of papers explored language or multi-domain protocols. Finally, although caregivers were rarely the direct target of intervention, their role was diffusely highlighted as a critical element of the home-based rehabilitation setting.DiscussionThis systematic review offers insights into the integration of technological devices into telerehabilitation programs for pediatric neurologic and neurodevelopmental disorders. It highlights factors contributing to the effectiveness of these interventions and suggests the need for further development, particularly in creating dynamic and multi-domain rehabilitation protocols. Abstract: Background:In the precision medicine era, identifying predictive factors to select patients most likely to benefit from treatment with immunological agents is a crucial and open challenge in oncology.Methods:This paper presents a pan-cancer analysis of Tumor Mutational Burden (TMB). We developed a novel computational pipeline, TMBcalc, to calculate the TMB. Our methodology can identify small and reliable gene signatures to estimate TMB from custom targeted-sequencing panels. For this purpose, our pipeline has been trained on top of 17 cancer types data obtained from TCGA.Results:Our results show that TMB, computed through the identified signature, strongly correlates with TMB obtained from whole-exome sequencing (WES).Conclusion:We have rigorously analyzed the effectiveness of our methodology on top of several independent datasets. In particular we conducted a comprehensive testing on: (i) 126 samples sourced from the TCGA database; few independent whole-exome sequencing (WES) datasets linked to colon, breast, and liver cancers, all acquired from the EGA and the ICGC Data Portal. This rigorous evaluation clearly highlights the robustness and practicality of our approach, positioning it as a promising avenue for driving substantial progress within the realm of clinical practice.

Following [2], we show that the propagation of chaos does hold and that the one-particle distribution converges to the solution of the BGK equation. The improvement with respect to [2] consists in the fact that here, as suggested by physical considerations, the thermalizing transition is driven only by the restriction of the particle configuration in a small neighborhood of the jumping particle. Abstract: A system of permanent magnet quadrupoles (PMQs) is going to be realized by INFNLNS to be used as a collection system for the injection of laser driven ion beams up to 60 AMeV in an energy selector based on four resistive dipoles. This system is the first element of the ELIMED (ELI-Beamlines MEDical and Multidisciplinary applications) beam transport, dosimetry and irradiation line that will be developed by INFN-LNS (It) and installed at the ELI-Beamlines facility in Prague (Cz). ELIMED will be the first users open transport beam-line where a controlled laser-driven ion beam will be used for multidisciplinary researches. The definition of well specified characteristics, both in terms of performances and field quality, of the magnetic lenses is crucial for the system realization, for the accurate study of the beam dynamics and for the proper matching with the magnetic selection system which will be designed in the next months. Here, we report the design of the collection system and the adopted solutions in order to realize a robust system form the magnetic point of view. Moreover, the first preliminary transport simulations are also described.

Abstract: Abstract Concerns have recently increased that the integrity of some scientific research is questionable due to the inability to reproduce the claimed results of some experiments and thereby confirm that the original researcher's conclusions were justified. This phenomenon has been described as 'reproducibility crisis' and affects various fields from medicine to basic applied sciences. In this context, the REPLICA project aims to replicate previously conducted in vitro studies on the toxicity of cigarette smoke and e-cigarette aerosol, sometimes adding experiments or conditions where necessary, in order to verify the robustness and replicability of the data. In this work the REPLICA Team replicated biological and toxicological assessment published by Rudd and colleagues in 2020. As in the original paper, we performed Neutral Red Uptake (NRU) assay for the evaluation of cytotoxicity, Ames test for the evaluation of mutagenesis and In Vitro Micronuclei (IVMN) assay for the evaluation of genotoxicity on cells treated with cigarette smoke or e-cigarette aerosol. The results showed high cytotoxicity, mutagenicity and genotoxicity induced by cigarette smoke, but slight or no cytotoxic, mutagenic and genotoxic effects induced by the e-cigarette aerosol. Although the two studies presented some methodological differences, the findings supported those previously presented by Rudd and colleagues.

50. Self-assembled BiFeO3@MIL-101 nanocomposite for antimicrobial applications under natural sunlight

Abstract: Abstract In this paper, we report on the synthesis of a new hybrid photocatalytic material activated by natural sunlight irradiation. The material consists of multiferroic nanoparticles of bismuth ferrite (BFO) modified through the growth of the Fe-based MIL-101 framework. Material characterization, conducted using various techniques (X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, FTIR, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies), confirmed the growth of the MIL-101 metal–organic framework on the BFO surface. The obtained system possesses the intrinsic photo-degradative properties of BFO nanoparticles significantly enhanced by the presence of MIL-101. The photocatalytic activity of this material was tested in antibacterial experiments conducted under natural sunlight exposure within the nanocomposite concentration range of 100–0.20 µg/ml. The MIL-modified BFO showed a significant decrease in both Minimum Inhibiting Concentration and Minimum Bactericide Concentration values compared to bare nanoparticles. This confirms the photo-activating effect of the MIL-101 modification. In particular, they show an increased antimicrobial activity against the tested Gram-positive species and the ability to begin to inhibit the growth of the four Escherichia coli strains, although at the maximum concentration tested. These results suggest that the new nanocomposite BiFeO3@MOF has been successfully developed and has proven to be an effective antibacterial agent against a wide range of microorganisms and a potential candidate in disinfection processes.
