Highly facile, single-step synthetic approach of 3-iodoquinolines is developed for the first time from readily available 2-aminobenzophenones and terminal alkynes. The reaction involves a nucleophilic addition of terminal alkynes to 2-aminobenzophenones followed by intramolecular regioselective iodocyclization (6-endo dig) to furnish 2,4-disubstituted, 3-iodoquinolines in high yields. In case of 2,4-diaryl substitution, the products were isolated without a column chromatography

A green synthesis of unsymmetrical 9-arylxanthenones is described using Ca(OTf)2 in one-pot cascade benzylation, annulation and dehydration strategy starting from readily accessible π-activated carbinols. 4-Hydroxycoumarin/cyclohexane-1,3-dione required to be refluxed in water with 2-(hydroxy(phenyl)methyl)phenol derivatives in the presence of 5 mol % of Ca(OTf)2 to yield the unsymmetrical 9H-xanthenes, whereas α/β-naphthols reacted under solvent free-microwave irradiation conditions. Use of ecofriendly alkaline earth catalyst, water as the solvent, mw-irradiation, substrate scope and high yields make this methodology more amenable.

A facile one-pot domino reaction for the stereoselective synthesis of acryl derivatives has been reported using alkaline earth catalyst [Ca(OTf)2]. Initially aryl amine reacts with ethyl propiolate to form β-enamino ester which further reacts with aryl aldehyde and indole in the presence of Ca(OTf)2 to give indolyl acrylates. It is interesting to note that in the absence of indole the reaction leads to the formation of benzylidene bisacrylates. Similarly β-enamino ester reacts with another electrophilic partner isatin in the presence of Ca(OTf)2 to give oxindolyl acrylates. The products were isolated in good yields by simple filtration.

Ca(OTf) 2 catalyzed, cascade, one-pot, conjugate addition and annulation of various nucleophiles to the α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds for the synthesis of biologically potent pyranocoumarins and benzo[ b ]pyrans has been illustrated. This one-pot, solvent-free, green-synthesis employs simple reaction conditions, with high yields and endures the substrate diversity.

An efficient solvent-free synthesis of amides by Ca(II) catalyzed Ritter reaction has been reported under microwave irradiation. This green protocol tolerates the substrate diversity and delivers the high yielding amides with minimal loading of inexpensive and more abundant Ca(II) catalyst.
