Abstract Knowledge of variation in population processes (e.g. population growth) across broad spatiotemporal scales is fundamental to population ecology and critical for conservation decision‐making. Count data from rigorous surveys (e.g. surveys with probabilistic sampling design and distance sampling information) can inform population processes but are often limited in space and time. Participatory science data cover broader spatiotemporal extents but are prone to bias due to limited to no sampling design and lack of distance sampling information, hindering their capability of informing population processes. Here, we developed an integrated dynamic N‐mixture model that jointly analyses rigorous survey and participatory science data to inform population growth at broad spatiotemporal extents. The model contains a flexible scaling parameter that allows fixed and random effects to account for biases and errors in participatory science data. We conducted simulations to evaluate the inference performance of this model across a broad range of spatial and temporal overlap between rigorous survey and participatory science data. We also conducted a case study of Baird's Sparrow (Centronyx bairdii), a species of conservation concern, to illustrate the application of the integrated model with rigorous survey data from the Integrated Monitoring in Bird Conservation Regions programme and participatory science North American Breeding Bird Survey and eBird data. Simulations showed that the integrated model improved precision without biasing parameter estimates, in comparison with a model informed by rigorous survey data alone. The case study further demonstrated the utility of the integrated model for quantifying range‐wide, long‐term population processes and environmental drivers despite limited spatiotemporal extent of rigorous survey data. In particular, we found that population growth rate peaked under medium temperature, which were only apparent in the integrated model. The integrated model developed in this study is useful for understanding wildlife population processes at broad spatiotemporal scales with count data. The flexible structure of this model, in particular the scaling parameter, makes it highly adaptable to a broad range of ecological systems and survey procedures. These properties make this modelling approach highly relevant for both population ecology and conservation practice.

Abstract Background Malnutrition is common in patients with chronic cardiovascular disease and is associated with significantly higher all-cause mortality. Approximately one-third of patients with heart failure are malnourished. However, the relationship between malnutrition and idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH) remains unclear. This study aimed to clarify the prognostic value of malnutrition in patients with IPAH. Methods A total of 432 consecutive participants with IPAH were included in this study between March 2013 and August 2021. Three common malnutrition assessment tools, including the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI), prognostic nutritional index (PNI), and controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score, were used to evaluate the nutritional status of patients with IPAH. The relationships between the malnutrition tools and long-term adverse outcomes were determined using restricted cubic splines and multivariate Cox regression models. Results During a mean follow-up of 3.1 years, 158 participants experienced clinical worsening or all-cause death. Abstract Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is a type 2 inflammation- and immunity-driven skin disease, yet a comprehensive understanding of the immune landscape, particularly immune-stromal crosstalk in BP, remains elusive. Herein, using single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and in vitro functional analyzes, we pinpoint Th2 cells, dendritic cells (DCs), and fibroblasts as crucial cell populations. The IL13-IL13RA1 ligand–receptor pair is identified as the most significant mediator of immune-stromal crosstalk in BP. Notably, fibroblasts and DCs expressing IL13RA1 respond to IL13-secreting Th2 cells, thereby amplifying Th2 cell-mediated cascade responses, which occurs through the specific upregulation of PLA2G2A in fibroblasts and CCL17 in myeloid cells, creating a positive feedback loop integral to immune-stromal crosstalk. Furthermore, PLA2G2A and CCL17 contribute to an increased titer of pathogenic anti-BP180-NC16A autoantibodies in BP patients. Our work provides a comprehensive insight into BP pathogenesis and shows a mechanism governing immune-stromal interactions, providing potential avenues for future therapeutic research.

Abstract Background Non-pharmacological interventions have a myriad of available intervention options and contain multiple components. Whether specific components of non-pharmacological interventions or combinations are superior to others remains unclear. The main aim of this study is to compare the effects of different combinations of non-pharmacological interventions and their specific components on health-related outcomes in adults with subjective cognitive decline. Methods PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, CINAHL, PsycINFO, CENTRAL, Web of Science, and China’s two largest databases, CNKI and Wanfang, were searched from inception to 22nd, January 2023. Randomized controlled trials using non-pharmacological interventions and reporting health outcomes in adults with subjective cognitive decline were included. Two independent reviewers screened studies, extracted data, and assessed risk of bias. Component network meta-analysis was conducted employing an additive component model for network meta-analysis. This study followed the PRISMA reporting guideline and the PRISMA checklist is presented in Additional file 2. Results A total of 39 trials with 2959 patients were included (range of mean ages, 58.79–77.41 years). Resistance exercise might be the optimal intervention for reducing memory complaints in adults with subjective cognitive decline; the surface under the cumulative ranking p score was 0.888, followed by balance exercise (p = 0.859), aerobic exercise (p = 0.832), and cognitive interventions (p = 0.618). Music therapy, cognitive training, transcranial direct current stimulation, mindfulness therapy, and balance exercises might be the most effective intervention components for improving global cognitive function (iSMD, 0.83; 95% CI, 0.36 to 1.29), language (iSMD, 0.31; 95% CI, 0.24 to 0.38), ability to perform activities of daily living (iSMD, 0.55; 95% CI, 0.21 to 0.89), physical health (iSMD, 3.29; 95% CI, 2.57 to 4.00), and anxiety relief (iSMD, 0.71; 95% CI, 0.26 to 1.16), respectively. Conclusions The form of physical activity performed appears to be more beneficial than cognitive interventions in reducing subjective memory complaints for adults with subjective cognitive decline, and this difference was reflected in resistance, aerobic, and balance exercises. Randomized clinical trials with high-quality and large-scale are warranted to validate the findings. Trial registration PROSPERO registry number. CRD42022355363.

Abstract As a highly developed region, Guangdong province has substantial industrial emissions. Its subtropical monsoon climate, characterized by abundant hydrothermal conditions, contributes to a substantial biomass potential. The adoption of potential biomass-based carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies, such as biochar, presents an opportunity to mitigate emissions and work towards carbon neutrality in the future. However, the current state of the land carbon balance and the CDR potential of biochar in Guangdong province remains unclear. We first calculated the land carbon balance based on inventory data. Then we estimated the CDR potential of biochar derived from agricultural residues, forestry residues, and bioenergy crops cultivated on marginal lands in Guangdong province using life cycle analysis (LCA). Results show that Guangdong province has not yet achieved carbon neutrality, with a net emission (carbon emissions remaining after offsetting by carbon sinks) of 925.63 Tg CO2e (CO2 equivalent, 1Tg = 106 t) in 2021. Emissions from energy consumption account for the highest proportion, contributing 83.8% of total emissions. In the highest biomass utilization scenario, the maximum CDR potential of biochar derived from all biomass types reaches 84.30 Tg CO2e yr-1, which could offset 9.11% of net carbon emissions in Guangdong province. Our findings provide crucial guidance for setting emission reduction targets and implementing effective mitigation strategies in Guangdong province under temperature warming. Graphical Abstract

Abstract Human‐wildlife interactions become increasingly common in urban areas across all continents and ecosystem types. Depending on the context, human‐wildlife interactions can be categorized as harmonious, neutrality, or in conflict and raises cultural, economic and ecological challenges in maintaining urban biodiversity. Understanding the mechanism behind the tolerance of residents to the presence of wildlife is vital to promoting a harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife in urban environments. To advance our knowledge of this mechanism, we developed a questionnaire to survey residents in Shanghai, China about their knowledge of and attitude towards raccoon dogs (Nyctereutes procyonoides), a species whose population is increasing in urban areas. Using 281 questionnaires, we conducted structural equation modelling to examine how relational values, including familiarity with raccoon dogs, perceived benefits and risks, together with residents' trust in wildlife management authorities, interactively influence the tolerance for this species. We found that the residents' familiarity with raccoon dogs positively influenced their tolerance, both directly and indirectly through increased perceived benefits and reduced perceived risks. Furthermore, trust in wildlife management authorities contributed to higher tolerance through perceived benefits. Our results suggested that education about the relational values of raccoon dogs to the public can reduce the traditional negative connotation for this species and promote the coexistence of people and raccoon dogs in Shanghai urban environment. Based on our understanding about how raccoon dogs were culturally constructed and the willingness of residents to share landscapes with the species, we advocate that relational values play an important role in future urban biodiversity conservation planning. We also advocate for education programs that familiarize the public with raccoon dogs as well as other species, which can turn urban human‐wildlife conflicts into harmonious relationships in Shanghai and other urban areas. Tumor-promoting niche after incomplete surgery resection (SR) can lead to more aggressive local progression and distant metastasis with augmented angiogenesis-immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME). Herein, elevated neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) and cancer-associated neurotransmitters (CANTs, e.g., catecholamines) are firstly identified as two of the dominant inducements. Further, an injectable fibrin-alginate hydrogel with high tissue adhesion has been constructed to specifically co-deliver NETs inhibitor (DNase I)-encapsulated PLGA nanoparticles and an unselective β-adrenergic receptor blocker (propranolol). The two components (i.e., fibrin and alginate) can respond to two triggers (thrombin and Ca2+, respectively) in postoperative bleeding to gelate, shaping into an interpenetrating network (IPN) featuring high strength. The continuous release of DNase I and PR can wreck NETs and antagonize catecholamines to decrease microvessel density, blockade myeloid-derived suppressor cells, secrete various proinflammatory cytokines, potentiate natural killer cell function and hamper cytotoxic T cell exhaustion. The reprogrammed TME significantly suppress locally residual and distant tumors, induce strong immune memory effects and thus inhibit lung metastasis. Thus, targetedly degrading NETs and blocking CANTs enabled by this in-situ IPN-based hydrogel drug depot provides a simple and efficient approach against SR-induced cancer recurrence and metastasis.

Although various anti-osteoporosis drugs are available, the limitations of these therapies, including drug resistance and collateral responses, require the development of novel anti-osteoporosis agents. Rhizoma Drynariae displays a promising anti-osteoporosis effect, while the effective component and mechanism remain unclear. Here, we revealed the therapeutic potential of Rhizoma Drynariae-derived nanovesicles (RDNVs) for postmenopausal osteoporosis and demonstrated that RDNVs potentiated osteogenic differentiation of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs) by targeting estrogen receptor-alpha (ERα). RDNVs, a natural product isolated from fresh Rhizoma Drynariae root juice by differential ultracentrifugation, exhibited potent bone tissue-targeting activity and anti-osteoporosis efficacy in an ovariectomized mouse model. RDNVs, effectively internalized by hBMSCs, enhanced proliferation and ERα expression levels of hBMSC, and promoted osteogenic differentiation and bone formation. Mechanistically, via the ERα signaling pathway, RDNVs facilitated mRNA and protein expression of bone morphogenetic protein 2 and runt-related transcription factor 2 in hBMSCs, which are involved in regulating osteogenic differentiation. Further analysis revealed that naringin, existing in RDNVs, was the active component targeting ERα in the osteogenic effect. Taken together, our study identified that naringin in RDNVs displays exciting bone tissue-targeting activity to reverse osteoporosis by promoting hBMSCs proliferation and osteogenic differentiation through estrogen-like effects.

Abstract Background Insulin resistance (IR) plays an important role in the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease. Recent studies have shown that diabetes mellitus and impaired lipid metabolism are associated with the severity and prognosis of idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH). However, the relationship between IR and pulmonary hypertension is poorly understood. This study explored the association between four IR indices and IPAH using data from a multicenter cohort. Methods A total of 602 consecutive participants with IPAH were included in this study between January 2015 and December 2022. The metabolic score for IR (METS-IR), triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio, triglyceride and glucose (TyG) index, and triglyceride-glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI) were used to quantify IR levels in patients with IPAH. The correlation between non-insulin-based IR indices and long-term adverse outcomes was determined using multivariate Cox regression models and restricted cubic splines. Results During a mean of 3.6 years’ follow-up, 214 participants experienced all-cause death or worsening condition. This study delves into the machining defects encountered during the milling of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics (CFRP), with a special focus on fishbone-like cracks on the machined surface, which have never been focused before. Through a series of experiments, models for post-machining fiber burrs and matrix cracks were developed and analyzed, uncovering the causes of fishbone crack formation. The research reveals that the formation mechanisms of burrs vary with fiber orientation, burrs are not only from fiber bending under tool pressure but also from fiber buckling. Fishbone cracks are believed to be induced by growing burrs as the tool wear, and propagate along the in-plane and subsurface. Propagation downwards is along the fiber direction, while propagation inward is at an angle of approximately 40° ± 3°. This research is vital for enhancing the machining quality of composite materials and their engineering applications.

Remote sensing (RS) technologies are extensively exploited by scientists and a vast audience of local authorities, urban managers, and city planners. Coastal regions, geohazard-prone areas, and highly populated cities represent natural laboratories to apply RS technologies and test new methods. Over the last decades, many efforts have been spent on improving Earth’s surface monitoring, including intensifying Earth Observation (EO) operations by the major national space agencies. They oversee to plan and make operational constellations of satellite sensors providing the scientific community with extensive research and development opportunities in the geoscience field. For instance, within this framework, the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Ministry of Science and Technology of China (MOST) have sponsored, since the early 2000s, the DRAGON initiative jointly carried out by the European and Chinese RS scientific communities. This manuscript aims to provide a synthetic overview of some research activities and new methods recently designed and applied and trace the route for further developments. The main findings are related to i) the analysis of flood risk in China, ii) the potential of new methods for the estimation and removal of ground displacement biases in small-baseline oriented interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) methods, iii) the analysis of the inundation risk in low-lying regions using coherent and incoherent SAR methods; and iv) the use of SAR-based technologies for marine applications.

Abstract Background Patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) exhibit a distinct gut microbiota profile; however, the causal association between gut microbiota, associated metabolites, and PAH remains elusive. We aimed to investigate this causal association and to explore whether dietary patterns play a role in its regulation. Methods Summary statistics of gut microbiota, associated metabolites, diet, and PAH were obtained from genome-wide association studies. The inverse variance weighted method was primarily used to measure the causal effect, with sensitivity analyses using the weighted median, weighted mode, simple mode, MR pleiotropy residual sum and outlier (MR-PRESSO), and MR-Egger methods. A reverse Mendelian randomisation analysis was also performed. Results Alistipes (odds ratio [OR] = 2.269, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.100–4.679, P = 0.027) and Victivallis (OR = 1.558, 95% CI 1.019–2.380, P = 0.040) were associated with an increased risk of PAH, while Coprobacter (OR = 0.585, 95% CI 0.358–0.956, P = 0.032), Erysipelotrichaceae (UCG003) (OR = 0.494, 95% CI 0.245–0.996, P = 0.049), Lachnospiraceae (UCG008) (OR = 0.596, 95% CI 0.367–0.968, P = 0.036), and Ruminococcaceae (UCG005) (OR = 0.472, 95% CI 0.231–0.962, P = 0.039) protected against PAH. No associations were observed between PAH and gut microbiota-derived metabolites (trimethylamine N-oxide [TMAO] and its precursors betaine, carnitine, and choline), short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), or diet. Although inverse variance-weighted analysis demonstrated that elevated choline levels were correlated with an increased risk of PAH, the results were not consistent with the sensitivity analysis. Therefore, the association was considered insignificant. Reverse Mendelian randomisation analysis demonstrated that PAH had no causal impact on gut microbiota-derived metabolites but could contribute to increased the levels of Butyricicoccus and Holdemania, while decreasing the levels of Clostridium innocuum, Defluviitaleaceae UCG011, Eisenbergiella, and Ruminiclostridium 5. Conclusions Gut microbiota were discovered suggestive evidence of the impacts of genetically predicted abundancy of certain microbial genera on PAH. Results of our study point that the production of SCFAs or TMAO does not mediate this association, which remains to be explained mechanistically.

Abstract To promote the application of automated vehicles in large airports, in this study, we present an integrated optimization method for scheduling Unmanned follow-me cars. The scheduling process is divided into three phases: Dispatch, Guidance, and Recycle. For the Dispatch phase, we establish a vehicle assignment model, to allocate the vehicle resource equitably. For the Guidance phase, we offer an quantitative way, to measure the spacing between Unmanned follow-me car and aircraft. To optimize the efficiency of airport operation in the three phases and ensure safety, the collaborative planning model, and the conflict prediction model are established. An improved grey wolf optimization algorithm is adopted to enhance the convergence speed and generalization performance. A case study at Ezhou Huahu Airport in China demonstrates the effectiveness of the methods. The results show that the model of collaborative planning can make the balance of path selection, Unmanned follow-me car’s working time, and departure sequence. The convergence speed of the improved algorithm has been increased by 18.75%. The inequity index of vehicle assignment is only 0.015731, and the spatiotemporal distribution of conflicts is influenced by the airport’s surface layout.

Abstract Steroid receptor RNA activator (SRA)-like non-coding RNA (SLNCR1) has been implicated in various tumorigenic processes, but the precise regulatory role in melanoma progression remains uncertain. We performed a comprehensive analysis to investigate the prognostic value of SLNCR1 expression in patients with melanoma by TCGA database and melanoma tissue samples via the Kaplan–Meier method. Subsequently, we conducted qRT-PCR and Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization (FISH) assays to identify SLNCR1 expression levels and localization in tissues and cells, respectively. Loss-of-function assays utilizing shRNAs vectors were used to investigate the potential impact of SLNCR1. Our data showed that SLNCR1 is significantly up-regulated in human malignant melanoma tissues and cell lines and functions as an oncogene. Silencing of SLNCR1 suppressed melanoma cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and inhibited tumorigenesis in a mouse xenograft model. Additionally, we employed bioinformatic predictive analysis, combined with dual-luciferase reporter analysis and functional rescue assays, to elucidate the mechanistic target of the SLNCR1/SOX5 axis in melanoma. Mechanistically, we discovered that SLNCR1 promotes EMT of human melanoma by targeting SOX5, as downregulation of SLNCR1 expression leads to a decrease in SOX5 protein levels and inhibits melanoma tumorigenesis. Our research offers promising insights for more precise diagnosis and treatment of human melanoma.

Abstract Aims Despite refinements in balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA), total occlusion remains a challenge in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). Owing to their low success and high complication rates, most interventional cardiologists are reluctant to address total occlusion, and there is a paucity of literature on BPA performance in total occlusion. We aimed to classify total occlusion according to morphology and present an illustrative approach for devising a tailored treatment strategy for each distinct type of total occlusion. Methods and results All patients diagnosed with CTEPH who underwent BPA between May 2018 and May 2022 at Fuwai Hospital in Beijing, China, were included retrospectively. A total of 204 patients with CTEPH who underwent BPA were included in this study. Among these, 38 occluded lesions were addressed in 33 patients. Based on the morphology, we categorized the lesions into three groups: pointed‐head, round‐head, and orifice occlusions. Pointed‐head occlusion could be successfully addressed using soft‐tip wire, round‐head occlusion warranted hard‐tip wire and stronger backup, and orifice occlusion warranted the strongest backup force. The success rates for each group were as follows: pointed‐head (95.45%), round‐head (46.15%), and orifice occlusion (33.33%), with orifice occlusion having the highest complication rate (50%). The classification of occlusion was associated with BPA success (round‐head occlusion vs. pointed‐head occlusion, OR 24.500, 95% CI 2.498–240.318, P = 0.006; orifice occlusion vs. pointed‐head occlusion, OR 42.000, 95% CI 3.034–581.434, P = 0.005). Conclusions Occlusion morphology has a significant impact on BPA success and complication rates. A treatment strategy tailored to each specific occlusive lesion, as outlined in the present study, has the potential to serve as a valuable guide for clinical practitioners.

Abstract Background Numerous studies have shown that Schistosoma japonicum infection correlates with an increased risk of liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC). However, data regarding the role of this infection in LIHC oncogenesis are scarce. This study aimed to investigate the potential mechanisms of hepatocarcinogenesis associated with Schistosoma japonicum infection. Methods By examining chronic liver disease as a mediator, we identified the genes contributing to Schistosoma japonicum infection and LIHC. We selected 15 key differentially expressed genes (DEGs) using weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) and random survival forest models. Consensus clustering revealed two subgroups with distinct prognoses. Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) and Cox regression identified six prognostic DEGs, forming an Schistosoma japonicum infection-associated signature for strong prognosis prediction. This signature, which is an independent LIHC risk factor, was significantly correlated with clinical variables. Four DEGs, including BMI1, were selected based on their protein expression levels in cancerous and normal tissues. We confirmed BMI1's role in LIHC using Schistosoma japonicum-infected mouse models and molecular experiments. Results We identified a series of DEGs that mediate schistosomiasis, the parasitic disease caused by Schistosoma japonicum infection, and hepatocarcinogenesis, and constructed a suitable prognostic model. We analyzed the mechanisms by which these DEGs regulate disease and present the differences in prognosis between the different genotypes. Finally, we verified our findings using molecular biology experiments. Conclusion Bioinformatics and molecular biology analyses confirmed a relationship between schistosomiasis and liver hepatocellular cancer. Furthermore, we validated the role of a potential oncoprotein factor that may be associated with infection and carcinogenesis. These findings enhance our understanding of Schistosoma japonicum infection's role in LIHC carcinogenesis.

Abstract Background To compare the value and efficiency of the three-dimensional (3D) heads-up surgical system and traditional microscopic (TM) system in teaching and learning vitreoretinal surgeries. Methods Twenty ophthalmologists and scrub nurses were recruited as teachers, and 45 junior ophthalmology residents and trainee doctors, trainee nurses, and medical students were recruited as observers. Each teacher and observer were assigned to both a 3D-assisted and TM-assisted vitreoretinal surgery and then asked to complete satisfaction questionnaires for both surgical systems at the end of each surgery. Abstract Background The aim of the retrospective cohort study was to investigate the prognostic effect of subchorionic hematomas (SCH) in the first trimester on pregnancy outcomes after euploid embryo transfer. Methods We retrospectively analyzed women achieving singleton pregnancy by PGT-A or PGT-SR from January 2017 to January 2022. Patients were enrolled in the study if they had a viable intrauterine pregnancy at ultrasound between 6 0/7 and 8 0/7 weeks of gestation. Pregnancy outcomes as well as the incidence of maternal complications were compared between patients with and without SCH. Logistic regression was used for adjusting for potential confounding factors. Results A total of 1539 women were included, of which 298 with SCH and 1241 with non-SCH. The early miscarriage rate in SCH group was significantly higher than that in the non-SCH group (10.1% vs. 5.6%, adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 1.99, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.25–3.16, P = 0.003). The live birth rate in SCH group was significantly lower than that in the non-SCH group. (85.6% vs. 91.2%, aOR 0.57, 95% CI 0.39–0.84, P = 0.005). In addition, SCH group had an increased risk of hypertensive disorder of pregnancy (HDP) (8.9% vs. 5.2%, P = 0.022), especially in hematoma with bleeding (19.3% vs. 6.0%, P = 0.002). The incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), major congenital abnormalities rate, normal birth weight rate and low birth weight rate were similar between the two groups. Conclusions The presence of SCH in the first trimester was associated with worse pregnancy outcomes after euploid embryo transfer, including an increased risk of early miscarriage and hypertensive disorder of pregnancy, along with a reduced live birth rate.

Small cutting thicknesses are commonly employed to minimize surface damage during the CFRP finishing process. However, reducing cutting thickness is not always beneficial to surface quality and the cutting process, particularly in cases involving tool wear. In this paper, the influence of cutting thicknesses on CFRP material removal behavior is studied, considering different stages of tool wear, through finite element simulations and orthogonal cutting experiments. The results show that tool wear exerts a more pronounced impact on the chip formation mechanism at smaller cutting thicknesses. When the fiber cutting angle θ = 0°, machining quality is minimally influenced by the cutting thickness but is primarily affected by tool wear. When θ = 45°/90°, it becomes challenging to form cutting chips when using worn tools at small cutting thicknesses (≤10 μm), but appropriately increasing the cutting thickness is conducive to fiber removal and enhancing machining quality. When θ = 135°, the chip formation mechanism remains relatively unchanged with tool wear, but the increase in cutting thickness results in a substantial rise in subsurface damage. This research illuminates the complex relationship between cutting thickness, tool wear and machining quality of CFRP, offering valuable insights for the CFRP cutting process.

BackgroundAlthough ophthalmic ambulatory surgeries are less costly and may enhance the more efficient utilization of hospital resources, inpatient surgeries were preferable alternatives for patients with complicated eye diseases or poor general health. However, the incidence, causes, and related factors of ophthalmic inpatient surgery cancellation remained largely unknown.MethodsThe electronic medical records of ophthalmic inpatient surgeries between January 2012 and December 2022 was retrospectively reviewed. Cancellation-related factors were explored using multivariate logistic regression analysis and the reasons of cancellation were also evaluated.ResultsIn total, 820 cancelled surgeries and 42,073 performed surgeries were included, with a cancellation rate of 1.9%. Patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) often suffer from varying degrees of neuropathic pain.Non-invasive repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) has been shown to improve neuropathic pain, while the appropriate intervention strategies of TMS treatment and how TMS affects brain function after SCI were not entirely clear. To investigate the effects and mechanisms of TMS on neuropathic pain after SCI, high-frequency TMS on primary motor cortex (M1) of mice was performed after SCI and pain response was evaluated through an electronic Von-Frey device and cold/hot plates. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), bulk RNA sequencing, immunofluorescence and molecular experiments were used to evaluate brain and spinal cord function changes and mechanisms. TMS significantly improved SCI induced mechanical allodynia, cold and thermal hyperalgesia with a durative effect, and TMS intervention at 1 week after SCI had pain relief advantages than at 2 weeks. TMS intervention not only affected the functional connections between the primary motor cortex and the thalamus, but also increased the close connection of multiple brain regions. Importantly, TMS treatment activated the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis and increased the transcript levels of genes encode hormone proteins, accompanied with the attenuation of inflammatory microenvironment in spinal cord associated with pain relief. Totally, these results elucidate that early intervention with TMS could improve neuropathic pain after SCI associated with enhancing brain functional connectivity and HPA axis activity which should be harnessed to modulate neuropathic pain after SCI.

ObjectiveTo improve the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of bladder large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC).MethodsA clinical case of bladder LCNEC admitted to our hospital was reported. The epidemiology, prognosis, diagnosis and treatment methods of large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma were reviewed. The diagnosis and treatment status and prognosis were discussed based on the literature.ResultsThe female patient was admitted to hospital for “more than 4 years after TURBT and intermittent hematuria for more than 2 years”. She was diagnosed as recurrent bladder cancer and underwent “radical cystotomy + hysterectomy”. The postoperative pathological findings were high-grade urothelial carcinoma of the bladder neck and large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the bladder. The patient recovered well after surgery, but refused radiotherapy and chemotherapy and is still under close follow-up.ConclusionBladder LCNEC is clinically rare, has unique pathological features, is more aggressive than traditional urothelial carcinoma, and has a poor prognosis. Surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy should be combined with multi-mode treatment.

We investigate the Λ particle motion and cluster states of BeΛ9−11 using a novel multiple cooling approach guided by the Control Neural Networks method (Ctrl.NN). The numerical results are well reproduced, and the Ctrl.NN method shows rapid convergence concerning the set of the basis states in comparison to traditional generator coordinate method (GCM) calculations. Taking advantage of this merit, we calculate ground state energies and rotational bands of BeΛ9−11 which agree well with experimental observations. By analyzing the density distributions of the main basis, a slight short-range repulsive correlation between Λ particle and α clusters in directions perpendicular to the axis of the Be8 core is revealed. The Λ particle presents a significant broad distribution as a consequence of this correlation, which we call an “analog π-orbit” structure. Furthermore, we prove that this correlation originates from the competition between kinetic energy and Λ-N interaction, as indicated by the energy curves for different configurations of BeΛ9. In the ground states of BeΛ10 and BeΛ11, the Λ particle is confined in a cage-like structure of core nuclei formed by two α clusters and valence neutrons. These structures lead to the development of more compact Λ particle configurations, and the shrinkage of α-α relative distance is also well reproduced.

In today’s digital world, app stores have become an essential part of software distribution, providing customers with a wide range of applications and opportunities for software developers to showcase their work. This study elaborates on the importance of end-user feedback for software evolution. However, in the literature, more emphasis has been given to high-rating & popular software apps while ignoring comparatively low-rating apps. Therefore, the proposed approach focuses on end-user reviews collected from 64 low-rated apps representing 14 categories in the Amazon App Store. We critically analyze feedback from low-rating apps and developed a grounded theory to identify various concepts important for software evolution and improving its quality including user interface (UI) and user experience (UX), functionality and features, compatibility and device-specific, performance and stability, customer support and responsiveness and security and privacy issues. Then, using a grounded theory and content analysis approach, a novel research dataset is curated to evaluate the performance of baseline machine learning (ML), and state-of-the-art deep learning (DL) algorithms in automatically classifying end-user feedback into frequently occurring issues. Various natural language processing and feature engineering techniques are utilized for improving and optimizing the performance of ML and DL classifiers. Also, an experimental study comparing various ML and DL algorithms, including multinomial naive Bayes (MNB), logistic regression (LR), random forest (RF), multi-layer perception (MLP), k-nearest neighbors (KNN), AdaBoost, Voting, convolutional neural network (CNN), long short-term memory (LSTM), bidirectional long short term memory (BiLSTM), gated recurrent unit (GRU), bidirectional gated recurrent unit (BiGRU), and recurrent neural network (RNN) classifiers, achieved satisfactory results in classifying end-user feedback to commonly occurring issues. Whereas, MLP, RF, BiGRU, GRU, CNN, LSTM, and Classifiers achieved average accuracies of 94%, 94%, 92%, 91%, 90%, 89%, and 89%, respectively. We employed the SHAP approach to identify the critical features associated with each issue type to enhance the explainability of the classifiers. This research sheds light on areas needing improvement in low-rated apps and opens up new avenues for developers to improve software quality based on user feedback.

The Lower Cambrian petroleum system in the Tarim Basin has undergone multiple periods of tectonic movements, leading to successive hydrocarbon expulsion events and adjustments. The complex process of hydrocarbon accumulation occurred under deep burial conditions, persisting at depths of nearly 6,000 m over an extended period. This has resulted in the current occurrence of various phases including light oil, condensate, and gas in the deep-ultradeep strata of the Tarim Basin. The intricacies of formation of hydrocarbon accumulations and phase evolution have posed challenges to understanding the accumulation mechanisms and enrichment patterns of the Cambrian in the Tarim Basin, consequently lowering the success rate of oil and gas exploration. Such characteristics of multi-stage accumulation and adjustment are prevalent in deep hydrocarbon systems. Therefore, based on data from Well ZH1 in the Tazhong Uplift, combined with basin simulation, Compositional kinetics model, and PVT performance simulation, this study investigates the hydrocarbon generation and phase evolution processes in the deep hydrocarbon systems of the Tazhong Uplift. The results indicate that Well ZH1 entered the hydrocarbon generation peak during the Late Ordovician, followed by secondary cracking as the predominant hydrocarbon evolution process. Hydrocarbon fluids within the Lower Cambrian reservoir transitioned into the condensate phase towards the end of the Cambrian, with increasing depth resulting in higher gas-oil ratios and a decreasing trend in viscosity and density.

BackgroundLumbosacral muscle strain (LMS) is common in Chinese elite trampoline athletes. Advanced lumbar muscle activation is necessary for postural control before upper extremity voluntary movements, called anticipatory postural adjustment to reduce internal postural interference (IPI). The potential of delayed lumbar muscle activation has been reported in patients with non-specific LBP (NLBP) in response to IPI. However, it remains unknown whether this effect exists in elite trampoline athletes. There is also limited literature reporting the rehabilitation of LMS in this population. This study first aimed to explore whether elite trampoline athletes with LMS experience delayed activation of lumbar muscles under IPI. The secondary aim was to preliminarily evaluate an integrative rehabilitation program's effectiveness.Materials and methodsTen elite trampoline athletes with LMS were recruited and received 10 sessions of integrative rehabilitation, including extracorporeal shock wave therapy, acupuncture, Tui-na, and spine function exercises. At baseline and after all sessions, the relative activation time of the lumbar muscles under IPI in a modified rapid arm-rise test was used as a primary outcome measure. The secondary measures included a visual analog scale (VAS) and a questionnaire to assess low back pain (LBP) and athletic training performance.ResultsThe relative activation time of the lumbar muscles under IPI was delayed at baseline, but significantly decreased after the intervention (P 0.05).ConclusionsElite trampoline athletes with LMS had delayed activation in their lumbar muscles under IPI. Integrative rehabilitation was effective in LBP relief and neuromuscular control of the lumbar muscles, and impacted positively on training performance. Future studies with a larger sample size, a control group, and long-term follow-ups are needed to further examine the efficacy of integrative rehabilitation in elite trampoline athletes with LMS. Additionally, the application of this approach in athletes with LMS or LBP in other sports, particularly those involving IPI, should be explored.

Background Cisplatin is a commonly used nephrotoxic drug and can cause acute kidney injury (AKI). In the present study, isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantification (iTRAQ) and parallel reaction monitoring (PRM)-based comparative proteomics were used to analyze differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) to determine the key molecular mechanism in mice with cisplatin-induced AKI in the presence or absence of SIS3, a specific p-smad3 inhibitor, intervention. Methods The cisplatin-induced AKI mouse model was established and treated with SIS3. We used iTRAQ to search for DEPs, PRM to verify key DEPs and combined Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) for bioinformatics analysis. We then assessed lipid deposition, malondialdehyde (MDA) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) and detected the expression of SREBF1, SCD1, CPT1A, PPARα and NDRG1 in vitro. Results Proteomic analysis showed that the identified DEPs were mainly enriched in energy metabolism pathways, especially in lipid metabolism. When SIS3 was applied to inhibit the phosphorylation of Smad3, the expression of NDRG1 and fatty acid oxidation key proteins CPT1A and PPARα increased, the expression of lipid synthesis related proteins SREBF1 and SCD1 decreased and the production of lipid droplets, MDA and ROS decreased. Conclusion SIS3 alleviates oxidative stress, reduces lipid accumulation and promotes fatty acid oxidation through NDRG1 in cisplatin-induced AKI. Our study provides a new candidate protein for elucidating the molecular mechanisms of fatty acid metabolism disorders in cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury.

Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a highly debilitating facial pain condition. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the main method for generating insights into the central mechanisms of TN pain in humans. Studies have found both structural and functional abnormalities in various brain structures in TN patients as compared with healthy controls. Whereas studies have also examined aberrations in brain networks in TN, no studies have to date investigated causal interactions in these brain networks and related these causal interactions to the levels of TN pain. We recorded fMRI data from 39 TN patients who either rested comfortably in the scanner during the resting state session or tracked their pain levels during the pain tracking session. Applying Granger causality to analyze the data and requiring consistent findings across the two scanning sessions, we found 5 causal interactions, including: (1) Thalamus → dACC, (2) Caudate → Inferior temporal gyrus, (3) Precentral gyrus → Inferior temporal gyrus, (4) Supramarginal gyrus → Inferior temporal gyrus, and (5) Bankssts → Inferior temporal gyrus, that were consistently associated with the levels of pain experienced by the patients. Utilizing these 5 causal interactions as predictor variables and the pain score as the predicted variable in a linear multiple regression model, we found that in both pain tracking and resting state sessions, the model was able to explain ∼36 % of the variance in pain levels, and importantly, the model trained on the 5 causal interaction values from one session was able to predict pain levels using the 5 causal interaction values from the other session, thereby cross-validating the models. These results, obtained by applying novel analytical methods to neuroimaging data, provide important insights into the pathophysiology of TN and could inform future studies aimed at developing innovative therapies for treating TN.

Abstract This paper suggests a new onboard calibration procedure for star sensors installed on low Earth orbit satellites. In this procedure, all the error factors are investigated, and an accurate model of the star sensor is presented. Then, a new scenario is proposed for producing real data from a star sensor installed on a satellite while the satellite is moving in orbit. These sensor data are entered into the unscented Kalman filter as measurement data, and the sensor parameters, including focal length and principal point, are estimated. In the following, the estimated parameters are entered into the linear Kalman filter, and the misalignment error is estimated. Finally, the proposed procedure is simulated, and its performance is checked. The simulation results show the high accuracy and convergence speed of the suggested algorithm.

Abstract Background Patients with cervical spondylosis myelopathy (CSM) may experience severe neurological dysfunction due to untimely spinal cord compression after surgery. These disorders may lead to sensory and motion disorders, causing considerable psychological distress. Recent studies found that virtual reality (VR) technology can be an effective tool for treating spinal cord injuries. Owing to this discovery, we developed an exploratory research project to investigate the impact of this intervention on the postoperative recovery of patients with CSM. Methods The purpose of this randomized controlled trial was to evaluate the efficacy of combining VR technology with conventional rehabilitation strategies for the postoperative rehabilitation of patients with CSM. A total of 78 patients will be recruited and randomized to either the conventional rehabilitation group or the group subjected to VR technology combined with conventional rehabilitation strategies. The Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) scale will be the main tool used, and secondary outcomes will be measured via the visual analogue scale (VAS), neck disability index (NDI), and functional MRI (fMRI). The data analysis will identify differences between the intervention and control groups as well as any relationship between the intragroup changes in the functional area of the brain and the subjective scale scores after the intervention. Discussion The aim of this trial is to investigate the effect of VR training on the postoperative rehabilitation of patients with CSM after 12 intervention treatments. Positive and negative outcomes will help us better understand the effectiveness of the intervention and its neural impact. If effective, this study could provide new options for the postoperative rehabilitation of patients with CSM. Trial registration Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR2300071544). App stores allow users to search, download, and purchase software applications to accomplish daily tasks. Also, they enable crowd-users to submit textual feedback or star ratings to the downloaded software apps based on their satisfaction. Recently, crowd-user feedback contains critical information for software developers, including new features, issues, non-functional requirements, etc. Previously, identifying software bugs in low-star software applications was ignored in the literature. For this purpose, we proposed a natural language processing-based (NLP) approach to recover frequently occurring software issues in the Amazon Software App (ASA) store. The proposed approach identified prevalent issues using NLP part-of-speech (POS) analytics. Also, to better understand the implications of these issues on end-user satisfaction, different machine learning (ML) algorithms are used to identify crowd-user emotions such as anger, fear, sadness, and disgust with the identified issues. To this end, we shortlisted 45 software apps with comparatively low ratings from the ASA Store. We investigated how crowd-users reported their grudges and opinions against the software applications using the grounded theory & content analysis approaches and prepared a grounded truth for the ML experiments. ML algorithms, such as MNB, LR, RF, MLP, KNN, AdaBoost, and Voting Classifier, are used to identify the associated emotions with each captured issue by processing the annotated end-user data set. We obtained satisfactory classification results, with MLP and RF classifiers having 82% and 80% average accuracies, respectively. Furthermore, the ROC curves for better-performing ML classifiers are plotted to identify the best-performing under or oversampling classifier to be selected as the final best classifier. Based on our knowledge, the proposed approach is considered the first step in identifying frequently occurring issues and corresponding end-user emotions for low-ranked software applications. The software vendors can utilize the proposed approach to improve the performance of low-ranked software apps by incorporating it into the software evolution process promptly.

Traffic dynamics is universally crucial in analyzing and designing almost any network. This article introduces a novel theoretical approach to analyzing network traffic dynamics. This theory’s machinery is based on the notion of traffic divergence, which captures the flow (im)balance of network nodes and links. It features various analytical probes to investigate both spatial and temporal traffic dynamics. In particular, the maximal traffic distribution in a network can be characterized by spatial traffic divergence rate, which reveals the relative difference among node traffic divergence. To illustrate the usefulness, we apply the theory to two network-driven problems: throughput estimation of data center networks and power-optimized communication planning for robot networks, and show the merits of the proposed theory through simulations.

Abstract Fenton-like catalysts are important materials for degrading refractory organic pollutants, however, they still suffer from limited oxidizing ability. Although single atoms and nanoparticles with high-index facets are commonly used in catalysis, their high surface energy hinders controllable synthesis. Here, we construct an iron-based material containing both isolated single atoms and high-index faceted nanoparticles by carbon-assisted Flash Joule heating for organic pollutant remediation. The current-induced thermal shock benefits the excitation of iron atoms and subsequent trapping by graphene defects. At ultrahigh temperatures, the thermodynamic limitations are overcome, leading to nanoparticles with high-index facets. Density functional theory calculations indicate that hydroxyl radical production can be enhanced by self-relay catalysis via the ensemble effect between single atoms and high-index facet nanoparticles. The derived materials exhibit dramatically improved performance in terms of antibiotic removal and medical micropolluted water. Thus, this method presents an effective strategy for designing smart materials for organic wastewater purification.

Abstract Purpose To explore the value of clinical application with the whole process computed tomography (CT) guided percutaneous gastrostomy in esophageal tumor patients. Materials and methods A consecutive series of 32 esophageal tumor patients in whom endoscopic gastrostomy or fluoroscopy guided gastrostomy were considered too dangerous or impossible due to the esophagus complete obstruction, complicate esophageal mediastinal fistula, esophageal trachea fistula or severe heart disease. All of the 32 patients were included in this study from 2 medical center and underwent the gastrostomy under whole process CT guided. Results All of the gastrostomy procedure was finished successfully under whole process CT guided and the technical success rate was 100%. The average time for each operation was 27 min. No serious complications occurred and the minor complications occurred in 3 patients, including local infection, severe hyperplasia of granulation tissue and tube dislodgment. There were no procedure related deaths. Conclusion The technical success rate of whole process CT guided percutaneous gastrostomy is high and the complication is low. This technique can be used feasible and effectively in some special patients.

Abstract Background Identifying venous thromboembolism (VTE) is challenging for patients with cardiovascular diseases due to similar clinical presentation. Most hospital-acquired VTE events are preventable, whereas the implementation of VTE prophylaxis in clinical practice is far from sufficient. There is a lack of hospital-acquired VTE prediction models tailored specifically designed for patients with cardiovascular diseases. We aimed to develop a nomogram predicting hospital-acquired VTE specifically for patients with cardiovascular diseases. Material and methods Consecutive patients with cardiovascular diseases admitted to internal medicine of Fuwai hospital between September 2020 and August 2021 were included. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression were applied to identify risk factors of hospital-acquired VTE. A nomogram was constructed according to multivariable logistic regression, and internally validated by bootstrapping. Results A total of 27,235 patients were included. During a median hospitalization of four days, 154 (0.57%) patients developed hospital-acquired VTE. Multivariable logistic regression identified that female sex, age, infection, pulmonary hypertension, obstructive sleep apnea, acute coronary syndrome, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, immobility, central venous catheter, intra-aortic balloon pump and anticoagulation were independently associated with hospital-acquired VTE. The nomogram was constructed with high accuracy in both the training set and validation (concordance index 0.865 in the training set, and 0.864 in validation), which was further confirmed in calibration. Compared to Padua model, the Fuwai model demonstrated significantly better discrimination ability (area under curve 0.865 vs. 0.786, net reclassification index 0.052, 95% confidence interval 0.012–0.091, P = 0.009; integrated discrimination index 0.020, 95% confidence interval 0.001–0.039, P = 0.051). Conclusion The incidence of hospital-acquired VTE in patients with cardiovascular diseases is relatively low. The nomogram exhibits high accuracy in predicting hospital-acquired VTE in patients with cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract Background An increased acetylcholine (ACh) level in the right ventricle tissue of pulmonary hypertension (PH) was revealed, which indicated the important role of ACh in disease pathogenesis. However, the relationship between plasma ACh levels and disease conditions and patients’ prognosis has not been investigated. We aimed to explore the association between plasma ACh levels and the prognosis of patients with PH. We also discussed the feasibility of plasma ACh as a biomarker, which may contribute to the management of PH patients in the future. Methods Patients with confirmed PH in Fuwai Hospital from April 2019 to August 2020 were enrolled. The primary clinical outcome in this study was defined as a composite outcome, including death/lung transplantation, heart failure, and worsening of symptoms. Fasting plasma was collected to detect the ACh levels. The association between ACh levels and patients’ prognosis was explored. Results Finally, four hundred and eight patients with PH were enrolled and followed for a mean period of 2.5 years. Patients in the high ACh group had worse World Health Organization Functional Class (WHO-FC), lower 6-minute walk distance (6 MWD), and higher N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP). Notably, echocardiographic and hemodynamic parameters in the high metabolite group also suggested a worse disease condition compared with the low ACh group. After adjusting for confounders, compared with low ACh patients, those with high metabolite levels still have worse prognoses characterized as elevated risk of mortality, heart failure, and symptoms worsening. Conclusion High circulating ACh levels were associated with severe PH conditions and poor prognosis, which might serve as a potential biomarker in PH.

Abstract In this work, we present the investigation of the quantum dot color filter (QDCF) micro-light emitting diode (micro-LED) display. Green and red quantum dot photoresist (QDPR) materials are patterned into a pixelated array and precisely bonded with an all-blue micro-light emitting diode (micro-LED) substrate, forming a red, green, and blue (RGB) full color display through color conversion. A few factors that influence the achievable color gamut are further investigated. The resulting 1.1-inch 228-pixels per inch (ppi) display demo shows the good performance. The findings in this paper pave a way to the future industrialization of the micro-LED display.

Among the traditional belt edge detection methods, the contact detection technology has high cost and the non-contact detection technology has low precision. With the development of artificial intelligence technology, although the method based on convolutional neural network can effectively improve the detection accuracy, but limited by the local operation characteristics of the convolutional operation itself, there are still problems such as insufficient perception of long-distance and global information, it is difficult to improve the accuracy of the belt edge detection. In order to solve the above problems, ① by combining the traditional convolutional neural network's ability to extract local features and the Transformer structure's ability to perceive global and long-distance information, a dual-flow transformer network (DFTNet) which integrates global and local information is proposed. Through experimental verification, the DFTNet proposed in this paper has the best comprehensive performance with mIou 91.08%, ACC 99.48%, mPrecision 91.88% and mRecall 96.22%. which are 25.36%, 0.29%, 17.70% and 29.46% respectively compared to the pure convolutional neural network HRNet, and 29.5%, 0.32%, 24.77% and 34.13% respectively compared to FCN. At the same time, the frame rate of DFTNet processing images reaches 53.07 fps, which meets the real-time requirements in the industry and has great practical value.

Background: Recent randomized control trials (JCOG0802 and CALGB140503) have shown sublobar resection to be noninferior to lobectomy for non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) ≤2.0 cm. We have previously proposed histologic criteria stratifying lung adenocarcinoma into indolent low malignant potential (LMP) and aggressive angioinvasive adenocarcinomas, resulting in better prognostication than provided by World Health Organization grade. Here we determine whether pathologic classification is reproducible and whether subsets of adenocarcinomas predict worse outcomes when treated by wedge resection compared to lobectomy. Methods: A retrospective cohort of 108 recipients of wedge resection and 187 recipients of lobectomy for stage I/0 lung adenocarcinomas ≤2.0 cm was assembled from 2 institutions. All tumors were classified by a single pathologist, and interobserver reproducibility was assessed in a subset (n = 92) by 5 pathologists. Results: Angioinvasive adenocarcinoma (21%-27% of cases) was associated with worse outcomes when treated with wedge resection compared to lobectomy (5-year recurrence-free survival, 57% vs 85% [P = .007]; 5-year disease-free survival [DSS], 70% vs 90% [P = .043]; 7-year overall survival, 37% vs 58% [P = .143]). Adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS), minimally invasive adenocarcinoma (MIA), and LMP exhibited 100% 5-year DSS regardless of the surgical approach. Multivariable analysis showed that angioinvasion, tumor size, margin status, and extent of nodal sampling were significantly associated with recurrence but not with surgical procedure. There was substantial interobserver reproducibility among the pathologists for the diagnosis of angioinvasive adenocarcinoma (κ = 0.71) and the combined indolent AIS/MIA/LMP group (κ = 0.74). Conclusions: The majority (∼75%) of lung adenocarcinomas ≤2 cm are adequately managed with wedge resection; however, angioinvasive adenocarcinomas (∼25%) treated by wedge resection with suboptimal nodal sampling exhibit poor outcomes, with a 40% to 45% rate of recurrence within 5 years and 60% to 65% overall mortality at 7 years.

Abstract Background Quality of life (QoL) of older adults has become a pivotal concern of the public and health system. Previous studies found that both cognitive decline and neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) can affect QoL in older adults. However, it remains unclear how these symptoms are related to each other and impact on QoL. Our aim is to investigate the complex network relationship between cognitive and NPS symptoms in older adults, and to further explore their association with QoL. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in a sample of 389 older individuals with complaints of memory decline. The instruments included the Neuropsychiatric Inventory, the Mini Mental State Examination, and the 36-item Short Form Health Survey. Data was analyzed using network analysis and mediation analysis. Results We found that attention and agitation were the variables with the highest centrality in cognitive and NPS symptoms, respectively. Abstract Inflammation contributes to development of idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH), and tumor biomarkers can reflect inflammatory and immune status. We aimed to determine the value of tumor biomarkers in IPAH comprehensively. We enrolled 315 patients with IPAH retrospectively. Tumor biomarkers were correlated with established indicators of pulmonary hypertension severity. Multivariable Cox regression found that AFP (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.587, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.014–2.482, p = 0.043) and CA125 (HR: 2.018, 95% CI: 1.163–3.504, p = 0.013) could independently predict prognosis of IPAH. The changes of AFP over time were associated with prognosis of patients, each 1 ng/mL increase in AFP was associated with 5.4% increased risk of clinical worsening (HR: 1.054, 95% CI: 1.001–1.110, p = 0.046), enabling detection of disease progression. Moreover, beyond well‐validated PH biomarkers, CA125 was still of prognostic value in the low‐risk patients (HR: 1.014, 95% CI: 1.004–1.024, p = 0.004), allowing for more accurate risk stratification and prediction of disease outcomes. AFP and CA125 can serve for prognosis prediction, risk stratification, and dynamic monitor in patients with IPAH.

BackgroundThe preoperative inflammatory condition significantly influences the prognosis of malignancies. We aimed to investigate the potential significance of preoperative inflammatory biomarkers in forecasting the long-term results of lung carcinoma after microwave ablation (MWA).MethodThis study included patients who received MWA treatment for lung carcinoma from Jan. 2012 to Dec. 2020. We collected demographic, clinical, laboratory, and outcome information. To assess the predictive capacity of inflammatory biomarkers, we utilized the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC-ROC) and assessed the predictive potential of inflammatory biomarkers in forecasting outcomes through both univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard analyses.ResultsA total of 354 individuals underwent MWA treatment, of which 265 cases were included in this study, whose average age was 69.1 ± 9.7 years. The AUC values for the Systemic Inflammatory Response Index (SIRI) to overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were 0.796 and 0.716, respectively. We present microscopic cluster model calculations for the 1p and 2p decays of the 02+ and 22+ states of 10C. With the R-matrix method, we have estimated the decay widths. The obtained 1p and 2p decay widths are in good agreement with the recent experimental data and support the validity of the di-proton approximation for the 2p decay of 10C(02+). We also show the suppression of the 1p decay of the 10C(02+) state due to the structure mismatch with the decay channel.

Abstract Background The association of dyslipidemia with embryo development and pregnancy outcomes is largely unknown, especially in unexplained recurrent implantation failure (uRIF) patients. Here, this study aimed to explore the impact of abnormal blood lipid levels on embryo genetic status and pregnancy outcomes after preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) from a clinical perspective. Methods This study retrospectively analyzed 502 patients diagnosed as uRIF. They were divided into four groups according to the levels of cholesterol and triglyceride: nonhyperlipidemia group (NonH group), simple hypercholesterolemia group (SHC group), simple hypertriglyceridemia group (SHC group) and mixed hyperlipidemia group (MixH group). At the same time, patients were divided into non-low HDL-C group and low HDL-C group according to their HDL-C level. The outcomes of embryos genetic testing and pregnancy outcomes after PGT-A was analyzed between groups. Binary logistic regression and/or generalized estimating equation (GEE) model were conducted to investigate the association of different types of dyslipidemia with embryonic aneuploidy rate and cumulative live-birth rate. Results 474 women who met the inclusion criteria were divided into four groups: NonH group (N = 349), SHC group (N = 55), SHT group (N = 52) and MixH group (N = 18). Compared with the NonH group, SHC group had a significantly increased rate of embryo aneuploidy [48.3% vs. 36.7%, P = 0.006; adjusted OR (95% confidence interval) = 1.52(1.04–2.22), P = 0.029], as well as a reduced number of good-quality embryos on day 5 or 6 [3.00 ± 2.29 vs. 3.74 ± 2.77, P = 0.033]. The SHC group showed a tendency of a lower cumulative live birth rate (47.0% vs. 40.0%), a lower incidence of good birth outcome (37.2% vs. 34.5%) and a higher risk of clinical pregnancy loss (11.1% vs. 17.9%), but did not reach statistical significance (P > 0.05). The incidences of obstetric or neonatal complications and other adverse events were similar in the four groups. Whether patients have low HDL-C did not differ in pregnancy outcomes. Conclusions We found that uRIF women with hypercholesterolemia had an increased proportion of aneuploid embryos and a reduced proportion of high-quality embryos, while different types of hyperlipidemia had no correlation with cumulative live birth rate as well as pregnancy and neonatal outcomes.

Abstract Pulmonary carcinoma represents the second common cancer for human race while its mortality rate ranked the first all over the world. Surgery remains the primary option for early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in some surgical traditions. Nevertheless, only less than half of patients are operable subjected to the limited lung function and multiple primary/metastatic lesions. Recent improvements in minimally invasive surgical techniques have made the procedure accessible to more patients, but this percentage still does not exceed half. In recent years, radiofrequency ablation (RFA), one of the thermal ablation procedures, has gradually advanced in the treatment of lung cancer in addition to being utilized to treat breast and liver cancer. Several guidelines, including the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP), include RFA as an option for some patients with NSCLC although the level of evidence is mostly limited to retrospective studies. In this review, we emphasize the use of the RFA technique in patients with early‐stage NSCLC and provide an overview of the RFA indication population, prognosis status, and complications. Meanwhile, the advantages and disadvantages of RFA proposed in existing studies are compared with surgical treatment and radiotherapy. Due to the high rate of gene mutation and immunocompetence in NSCLC, there are considerable challenges to clinical translation of combining targeted drugs or immunotherapy with RFA that the field has only recently begun to fully appreciate.

Abstract A large number of studies indicate that Potassium Voltage-Gated Channel Q4 (KCNQ4) gene is the cause of non-syndromic hearing loss, but there are few studies investigating the role of KCNQ4 in cancers and scarcity of comprehensive analysis of its involvement in the diagnosis, methylation, mutation, prognosis of various cancer types. Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine the anticancerous and immune effects of KCNQ4 in various cancers and its potential value in breast cancer. In this study, we explored the potential role of KCNQ4 in cancers using public databases and the R software for bioinformatics analysis. The results showed that the low expression of KCNQ4 across specific cancer types was positively associated with low mutation frequency and methylation, and the improved survival. Eight small molecule compounds were identified that could potentially target KCNQ4. In addition, immunohistochemistry confirmed that the KCNQ4 expression was low in breast cancer. In vitro experiments confirmed that overexpression of KCNQ4 inhibited cell migration and invasion and promoted apoptosis. In summary, our comprehensive pan-cancer analysis highlights the potential of KCNQ4 as a cancer marker, and can be used as an auxiliary prognostic indicator and an indicator for immunotherapy in certain tumor types.

Abstract Individual variability in drug response (IVDR) can be a major cause of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and prolonged therapy, resulting in a substantial health and economic burden. Despite extensive research in pharmacogenomics regarding the impact of individual genetic background on pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD), genetic diversity explains only a limited proportion of IVDR. The role of gut microbiota, also known as the second genome, and its metabolites in modulating therapeutic outcomes in human diseases have been highlighted by recent studies. Consequently, the burgeoning field of pharmacomicrobiomics aims to explore the correlation between microbiota variation and IVDR or ADRs. This review presents an up-to-date overview of the intricate interactions between gut microbiota and classical therapeutic agents for human systemic diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), endocrine diseases, and others. We summarise how microbiota, directly and indirectly, modify the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) of drugs. Conversely, drugs can also modulate the composition and function of gut microbiota, leading to changes in microbial metabolism and immune response. We also discuss the practical challenges, strategies, and opportunities in this field, emphasizing the critical need to develop an innovative approach to multi-omics, integrate various data types, including human and microbiota genomic data, as well as translate lab data into clinical practice. To sum up, pharmacomicrobiomics represents a promising avenue to address IVDR and improve patient outcomes, and further research in this field is imperative to unlock its full potential for precision medicine.

Metal halide perovskite solar cell (PSC) has successfully distinguished itself in optoelectronic field by virtue of the sharp rise in power conversion efficiency over the past decade. The remarkable efficiency breakthrough at such a fast speed can be mainly attributed to the comprehensive study on film deposition techniques, especially the effective management of surface and interfacial defects in recent works. Herein, we summarized the current trends in performance enhancement for PSCs, with a focus on the generally applicable strategies in high-performance works, involving deposition methods, compositional engineering, additive engineering, crystallization manipulation, charge transport material selection, interfacial passivation, optical coupling effect and constructing tandem solar cells. Promising directions and perspectives are also provided.

Abstract In the post‐lithium‐ion battery era, calcium‐ion batteries (CIBs) have aroused extensive attention because of their strong cost competitiveness, low standard redox potentials, and high safety. However, the related research is progressing slowly due to the constraints of the development of electrode materials. The large ionic radius of Ca2+ especially increases the challenge to design cathode materials for reversible Ca2+ uptake/removal. Despite the inspiring achievements, various challenges still need to be further resolved. Here, this review systematically summarizes the recent advances in CIB cathode materials, including Prussian blue and its analogues, metal oxides, metal chalcogenides, polyanionic compounds, and organic materials. We first provide a brief introduction to CIBs and compare their advantages with other battery technologies. Then, preparation methods are introduced, and breakthrough investigations are highlighted. Finally, some possible research directions are discussed to promote the development of this emerging battery technology.
