Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has posed a significant threat to the worldwide population. Although several studies have been conducted targeting the diverse population, such as healthcare professionals and students, no study available to date sheds light on the academic and administrative staff who have experienced stress due to daily academic activities, such as using online platforms for teaching and learning. Objectives: This study aims to investigate the resilience and psychological preparedness of Palestinian university staff during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A cross-sectional online survey mode was applied. A convenience sampling was used to present academic and administrative university staff in Palestine. An invitation link was sent to participants via the university portal, including the questionnaires. A modified Psychological Preparedness for Disaster Threats Scale (PPDTS) and Ego-Resilience scale (ER11) were used for collecting data. Descriptive statistics were utilized to present participants' characteristics and outcome measures. Pearson correlation coefficient was utilized as appropriate to examine the association between variables. Results: The mean age of the study participants was 39.21±11.32 years. About 52.8% of participants experienced stress from COVID-19, and only 20% of participants had previous disaster training. Findings revealed that the mean score of the PPDTS and ER11 was 35.82±13.57 and 28.75±8.15, respectively, indicating that the participants had a moderate level of psychological preparedness and resilience. Psychological preparedness and resilience were positively correlated to each other (r = 0.731, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Disaster training was associated with better preparedness and higher resilience among university staff. Future training and enhancements in training delivery modes are warranted to foster better resilience and preparedness among staff to deal with such a pandemic. This study also contributes to goal three of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, as we emphasize that with better resilience and preparedness, university staff will have better health and well-being in the community. Introduction: Emergency nurses who are working in direct contact with COVID-19 patients are at an increased risk of developing secondary traumatic stress disorder. This study aimed to assess the prevalence, predictors, and consequences of secondary traumatic stress among emergency nurses in Palestine during the COVID-19 pandemic Methods: The study utilized a cross-sectional design and recruited a total of 189 emergency nurses from multiple healthcare centers in Palestine. Data collected from January 21, 2021, to March 31, 2021. Results: The study revealed that emergency nurses had a high degree of secondary traumatic stress with the prevalence of high to severe symptoms of secondary traumatic stress being 61% of the total participants. In terms of predictors, the results showed that years of experience, level of education, burnout, and organizational support were significantly correlated with secondary traumatic stress and thus that years of experience and burnout are predictors of secondary traumatic stress. Conclusion: Based on our findings, nurses in emergency departments in Palestine have a high degree of secondary traumatic stress disorder which impacts their lives on a personal and professional level. The Palmaris Longus (PL) is a slender; spindle shaped elongated muscle which is visible as a small tendon between other superficial muscles of the forearm, i.e., pronator teres, flexor carpi radialis and the flexor carpi ulnaris. The PL muscle is a highly variable muscle. However, the most common variation is its absence, which is more commonly seen on the left side. There is a wide scope of variation in the prevalence of absence of this muscle in different racial groups, which varies from 3.1% in some populations up to 63.9% in others. This study aims at finding out the prevalence of absence of the PL muscle among Palestinian population. To determine the prevalence of the absence of PL, a cross-sectional design utilizing the Schaeffer's test in a sample of 300 medical students at An-Najah National University with ages ranging between 18-22 years old was used. The overall prevalence of absence of PL muscle in our sample subjects was found to be 32%. Prevalence of bilateral absence was found to be 15.7 %, while the prevalence of unilateral absence of PL was found to be 16.3%. Unilateral absence of the PL muscle on the left side was 8.7 %, which was found to be a little more than that of the right side 7.7% among our 300 subjects. A significant gender-related difference in the overall prevalence of absence of PL on one or both sides, as well as in the prevalence of bilateral absence of muscle and in the prevalence of left-sided absence of muscle where all three indicators were more common in females. We recommend that our findings as well as the findings of other clinical studies be corroborated by conducting dissection studies. This is especially important in the absence of any accurate measurement of the specificity and sensitivity of these tests, while at the same time producing such a wide range of variation in their results in different populations. Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is considered as the foremost common hospital-acquired risk associated with patients on a ventilator, and there are numerous avoidance techniques that can be connected by Intensive care unit (ICU) nurses in arrange to diminish the hazard of frequency of VAP in ICU. This paper aimed to evaluate the effect of the nursing role, applying guidelines and adherence of health professionals to VAP bundle prevention strategies in an attempt to decrease rates of VAP in mechanically ventilated adult patients. An electronic searching was performed in the databases: Google Scholar, Research Gate and PubMed. The review paper showed that the applying of VAP bundle prevention as daily component of nursing care among ICU nurses in the ventilated patient can decrease incidence rate of VAP; and can be considered as a sensitive indicator that reflects patient outcomes. There are many factors among nurses for not adhering to these guidelines which may affect on patient's health outcome. This review paper provides nurses working in ICU with efficient knowledge regarding nurses' care guidelines to prevent the incidence rate of VAP in ICU. Further study is necessary in order to verify a good understanding and confirm the factors that may affect the development and increase incidence rate of VAP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy (TC) is a stress caused heart condition, it might be transient or complicated with other irreversible conditions. Recently, many case reports were released indicating of COVID-19 cases complicated with TC. This paper aimed to review studies that examined the correlation between COVID-19 and TC. An electronic search was carried out using PubMed and Google Scholar data base. The TC is one of the major COVID-19 complications that must be taken into consideration. Surgical site infection (SSI) is a significant cause of morbidity, mortality, and increased hospital stay time and costs after the operation. This paper aimed to review studies that explored the potential effectiveness of using depilatory cream to decrease the occurrence rate of surgical site infections as early preparation of cleaning area of the postoperative wound incision. An electronic search was carried out using PubMed and Google Scholar data bases. This review showed that there is a little amount of evidence on the effectiveness of using chemical hair removal with patients undergoing elective surgeries to decrease the risk of surgical site infections. Depilation before surgery has been used as a procedure to prevent hair from interacting with the recovering wound area. For preoperative surgical site hair removal, shaving, clipping, and chemical depilation are performed in hospitals. Chemical depilation requires adding a hair removal cream to the skin to remove the hair, and when this approach is used for hair removal, it is suggested that injuries and subsequent wound infection will be less. PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to evaluate the short anatomical and visual outcomes of scleral buckling surgery in relation to the pattern of presentation of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) in the presence of different situations and risk factors. METHODS: A total of 206 eyes of 203 patients who underwent scleral buckling surgery for RRD were evaluated in this retrospective study. Information retrieved included patient demographics, duration of symptoms, and presenting vision, lens status, site of a retinal break, extent of retinal detachment, the involvement of the fellow eye, macular involvement, presence of lattice degeneration, and associated refractive errors. Postoperative retinal reattachment, postoperative visual acuity, the need for further surgical intervention, intraoperative, and postoperative complications were also evaluated. Proportions and percentages were used to analyze data. RESULTS: Primary anatomical reattachment was seen in 172 eyes (83.5%) after the complete resolution of the tamponade used. The mean best-corrected visual acuity improved from 2.81 logarithms of the minimum angle of resolution (LogMar) preoperatively to 1.21 LogMar postoperatively, the most important factors that appeared statistically significantly affecting the anatomic and visual outcome were the duration of macular detachment (P = 0.036), the status of the lens; phakic eyes gave better visual outcome than aphakic and pseudophakic eyes (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Scleral buckling procedure showed high structural and visual success rates, improvement of visual acuity was found to correlate well with the shorter duration of macular detachment and pseudophakic eyes. We believe that scleral buckling, when done appropriately in the appropriate cases, gives the maximum visual outcome with the least cost and need for consecutive procedures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: The study aimed at assessing the stressors among hemodialysis (HD) patients and finding out whether there is any relation between these stressors and patients' characteristics in the North of the West Bank. Methods: A quantitative, cross-sectional, descriptive–analytical study was carried out. Data collection took place at three governmental hospitals and one private hospital where 120 HD patients responded to the HD stress scale. Results: Hemodialysis patients were mildly to moderately stressed, the greatest perceived sources of stress appeared to be "physiological stressors" (mean = 2.655), but the item with the highest percentage was 'limitation on time and place for vacation' (84.2%) which belong to psychosocial stress subscale, and the item stress with the least percentage was "dependency on nurses and technicians"(45%). Conclusions: There was significant difference between the psychosocial stressors and duration of treatment. The study concluded that HD patients are in need for continuous support, and it is recommended different contributions to improve the quality of their life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Pain management is an integral parts of nursing care and is one of the most important patient rights. This short review is intended to examine the knowledge and attitudes regarding pain management among ICU nurse's. This paper is used the electronic searches: google scholar, PubMed, CINAHL and World Health Organization (WHO). Nurses had good knowledge and a lower level of attitude towards pain management. However, the nurse's insufficient knowledge of pain management may be due many factors. Continuing education program should be conducted for nurses regarding pain and its management. Corona virus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), and is considered a global challenge. This short review intends to investigate the knowledge of nurses regarding prevention protocol of COVID-19 in emergency departments. The searching was carried out in electronic data bases: Google scholar, PubMed and World Health Organization (WHO). Most of the reviewed studies stated a good level of knowledge, attitude and a practice among nurses regarding COVID-19. The community education is needed to improve the knowledge, practice and attitude of the people. Background Methods Results Conclusion Providing care for people with dementia incorporates a level of burden which can affect quality of life for both the caregiver and the recipient of care. This study measures the level of burden experienced by Jordanian caregivers for people with dementia and explore related predictors.Through a cross‐sectional survey, participants were invited through convenience sampling to participate in a structured interview.A total of 406 participants completed the survey. According to Zarit Burden Interview, the mean burden score of the sample was 26.2 (SD = 16.2). This score falls under the mild to moderate burden level. Older age of the patient, severe dementia, lower number of caregivers, if the caregiving negatively affected family relations, and if the caregiving negatively affected jobs, were significant predictors of burden.Caregivers in the current study reported no burden to a minimum burden. This result does not mean that these caregivers have no or minimal stress or that they do not have psychological needs; on the contrary, these results call for more attention to providing extra psychological and emotional support to caregivers of patients with dementia in order to decrease the burden level and maintain their efforts in caregiving.
