Scientific retraction practices are intended to help purge the continued use of flawed research and assist in maintaining the integrity, credibility and quality of scientific literature. However, the practical effect of retraction is still vague and needs to be further explored. In this study, we analysed the citation counts and sentiments (positive/negative) of retracted articles in psychology journals from Web of Science to explore the effect of retraction. Causal inference strategies were used to measure the net effect of retractions on citation. Results show that the retraction practices induced the citation counts to reduce as expected. However, the proportion of negative citations also decreased because of retraction, indicating an unsatisfied effect. The retraction practice of high-impact factors and open access journals was more effective than other journals. The study integrated an understanding of the dissemination of erroneous publications and provided implications for liabilities involved in the whole retraction process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

According to a study from World Health Organization's Global Burden of Disease, mental and neurological disorders have accounted for 13% of global diseases in recent years and are on the rise. Neuropsychiatric conditions or neuroinflammatory disorders are linked by the presence of an exaggerated immune response both peripherally and in the central nervous system (CNS). Cognitive dysfunction (CD) encompasses a complex group of diseases and has frequently been described in the field of autoimmune diseases, especially in multiple non-CNS-related autoimmune diseases. Recent studies have provided various hypotheses regarding the occurrence of cognitive impairment in autoimmune diseases, including that abnormally activated immune cells can disrupt the integrity of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) to trigger a central neuroinflammatory response. When the BBB is intact, autoantibodies and pro-inflammatory molecules in peripheral circulation can enter the brain to activate microglia, inducing CNS inflammation and CD. However, the mechanisms explaining the association between the immune system and neural function and their contribution to diseases are uncertain. In this review, we used clinical statistics to illustrate the correlation between CD and autoimmune diseases that do not directly affect the CNS, summarized the clinical features and mechanisms by which autoimmune diseases trigger cognitive impairment, and explored existing knowledge regarding the link between CD and autoimmune diseases from the perspective of the field of neuroimmunology. Plant defense responses against microbial pathogens rely on the innate immune system. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are important secondary messengers that mediate downstream immune responses. Therefore, modification of ROS signaling contributes to crop plant breeding for broad-spectrum disease resistance. In plant immunity, ROS signaling is mainly mediated by NADPH oxidases, which use NADPH as a substrate to catalyze the reduction of oxygen to produce superoxide. NADPH generation is an important rate-limiting step in the ROS production pathway. Manipulation of the NADPH generation pathway may provide a novel strategy for regulating ROS signaling to improve broad-spectrum disease resistance of crop species. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) signaling has an important role in plant innate immune responses and is primarily mediated by NADPH oxidase, also known as respiratory burst oxidase homologs (RBOHs) in plants. NADPH serves as a fuel for RBOHs and limits the rate or amount of ROS production. Molecular regulation of RBOHs has been extensively studied; however, the source of NADPH for RBOHs has received little attention. Here, we review ROS signaling and the regulation of RBOHs in the plant immune system with a focus on NADPH regulation to achieve ROS homeostasis. Drought stress is a common environmental challenge that plants face, severely constraining plant growth and reducing crop yield and quality. Several studies have highlighted distinct responses between monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants. However, the mechanisms underlying flax tolerance to abiotic stress, such as drought, remain unclear. In this study, we investigated the morphological, physiological, and biochemical characteristics and the genome-wide gene expression of oil flax and fiber flax in response to drought stress. The results revealed that drought stress caused significant wilting of flax leaves. Within the first 24 h of stress, various physiological and biochemical characteristics exhibited rapid responses. These included fresh weight, relative water content (RWC), proline, soluble protein, soluble sugar, superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT) in the leaves or roots of flax. Additionally, drought stress led to a significant rise in lignin content in fiber flax. In addition, the transcriptome analysis demonstrated genome-wide variations in gene expression induced by drought stress. Specifically, genes associated with photosynthesis, proline biosynthesis, and phytohormone metabolism exhibited significant differences in expression levels under stress conditions in flax. These findings highlight the rapid response of flax to drought stress within a short-term period. Our experiment also revealed that, although there were variations in the levels of small compound content or gene expression between Longya10 and Fany under drought stress, most stress-resistance responses were similar. Background: To explore correlation between the dose of norepinephrine and the timing of starting enteral nutrition in septic shock (SS) patients. Methods: Totally 150 SS patients treated with enteral nutrition (EN) in Shiyan People's Hospital from Dece20 to July 2022 were included in this retrospective analysis. Patients were divided into tolerance group (n = 97) and intolerance group (n = 53) according to whether EN was tolerated or not. The study indexes include baseline characteristics [gender, age, weight, body mass index (BMI), scores of acute physiology and chronic health evaluation II system (APACHE II), comorbidity, time in-hospital, prognosis], clinical indexes [mean arterial pressure (MAP), time of mechanical ventilation (MV), norepinephrine dose at the time of starting EN, using of sedative drug, gastrointestinal motility drugs and cardiotonic drugs], EN indexes (timing of starting EN, speed of EN infusion, calorie of EN per day, EN target percent), and gastrointestinal intolerance index [residual gastric volume > 250 ml, vomiting, aspiration, gastrointestinal bleeding, blood lactic acid (BLA)]. Student-t test and Mann-Whitney test were used for test of measurement data. Chi-square test and fisher exact test were used for comparison of categorical data. Results: There were 51 (52.58%) male and 46 (47.42%) female patients with a median age of 66.4 ± 12.8 years old in tolerance group. There were 29 (54.72%) male and 24 (45.28%) female patients with a median age 67.3 ± 12.5 years old in intolerance group. The weight and BMI were significantly higher in intolerance group than those of tolerance group (both P < 0.001). There was no significant difference of comorbidity rate between two groups (all P > 0.05). Before the overlapping time of EN and norepinephrine, there were significantly more patients receiving gastrointestinal motility drugs in intolerance group compared with tolerance group (58.49% vs. 20.62%, P < 0.001). Patients in tolerance group had significantly less residual volume in gastric than that of intolerance group (188.00 ± 52.32 vs. 247.83 ± 34.95, P < 0.001). The rate of residual volume in gastric > 250ml (9.28% vs. 37.74%, P < 0.001), vomiting (15.46% vs. 35.85%, P = 0.004) and aspiration(16.49% vs. 33.96%, P = 0.018) were significantly lower in tolerance group than those of intolerance group. The BLA in tolerance group was significantly lower than that of intolerance group (1.84 ± 0.63 vs. 2.90 ± 1.5 3mmol/L,P < 0.001). There were significantly more patients with increased BLA (75.47% vs. 30.93%, P < 0.001) and > 2mmol BLA rising (43.40% vs. 8.25%, P < 0.001) in intolerance group than those of tolerance group. Patients in tolerance group had significantly lower time of starting EN (40.97 ± 9.53 vs. 49.85 ± 11.61 h, P < 0.001), dose of NE(0.23 ± 0.07 vs. 0.28 ± 0.10 ug/kg/min, P = 0.049), mortality in hospital (18.56% vs. 49.06%, P < 0.001) and mortality in ICU (16.49% vs. 37.74%, P < 0.001) compared with intolerance group. The EN target percent (92.78% vs. 56.60%, P < 0.001) and calorie of EN during overlapping period (20.22 ± 5.99 vs. 16.21 ± 2.52 kcal/kg/day, P < 0.001) in tolerance group were significantly higher than those of intolerance group. Conclusions: SS patients should be comprehensively evaluated according to their condition. Obese patients are more prone to EN intolerance, and those who can tolerate EN should be implemented as soon as possible. The use dose of NE is significantly related to EN tolerance. Promoting growth in patent activity was an important stated goal of China's Medium- and Long-Term Plan for Science and Technology Development (2006–20) , and it was a successful one. By the end of this ambitious blueprint, China had witnessed enormous growth in the number of granted patents, especially those granted to public universities. This vital role played by universities in technology innovation justifies further research on the role of academia with respect to the development of technology. However, most studies on patenting by Chinese universities are limited in terms of research scale and context, and patent performance is seldom investigated in great detail. This study first presents an overall analysis of the utility patents granted to Chinese public universities (not utility model patents). Then, we compare the patent performance of two elite university groups: Project 985 universities in China and member institutions of the Association of American Universities (AAU) in the USA. Our results show that Chinese universities account for a high proportion of the total patents granted in China, and the number of patents granted to universities has grown rapidly in recent decades, making them a very substantial contributor to China's innovation system. However, the value of patents did not improve as their counts surged. Compared to AAU universities, the technological and economic value of patents held by Project 985 universities is considerably lower, even for the top-patenting universities in China. Background: As adequate support, virtual reality (VR) has been increasingly introduced into the classroom to help students learn a new language. However, empirical studies exploring the educational potential of using 360° spherical video‐based virtual reality (SVVR) in high‐school Chinese language classrooms are still lacking. Objectives: A mind mapping‐based SVVR learning system is proposed for international high‐school students' Chinese courses and examines its effects on improving Chinese learning achievements and perceptions among Grade 10 students who learn Chinese as a foreign language. Methods: This study adopted a quasi‐experiment design. Participants (N = 66) were assigned to one of three conditions: mind mapping‐based SVVR (MMBSVVR), conventional SVVR (CSVVR), or traditional lecturing (TL). Our mixed‐method approach employed pre‐and post‐tests to measure Chinese learning achievements, questionnaires to measure Chinese learning motivation, problem‐solving ability, and self‐efficacy, and semi‐structured interviews to further explore students' feelings and attitudes about Chinese courses in corresponding learning environments. Results and Conclusions: The results showed that the MMBSVVR classroom significantly improved high students' Chinese learning achievements in Chinese vocabulary and making sentence, problem‐solving ability, and self‐efficacy. Moreover, SVVR stimulates students' learning interest and class participation, and mind mapping provides students with a clear guide to arrange the knowledge. These findings help interpret the relationships between MMBSVVR and learning achievements, Chinese learning motivation, problem‐solving ability, and self‐efficacy in an international high school Chinese courses, thus providing insight on integrating MMBSVVR into existing classrooms. Based on the panel data of 108 cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2009 to 2019, this study combines the difference-in-differences (DID) method with the mediation effect model to examine the impact of the opening of high-speed rail (HSR) on regional green innovation performance. It is found that the opening of HSR has significantly improved the regional green innovation performance, and this boosting effect shows an increasing trend over the years. In addition, the impact of the opening of HSR on regional green innovation performance varies significantly depending on geographic location and city size. Further, the measurement of the centrality of the HSR network employing social network analysis (SNA) indicates that the communication ability of node cities' transportation pulse is increasing, and the connection breadth of the HSR network has a positive impact on the regional green innovation performance. The findings supplement the current economic and environmental effects of HSR and provide a new idea and direction for understanding the relationship between HSR and regional green innovation and optimizing the layout of the HSR networks. Purpose: To investigate vector and refractive astigmatism changes after superotemporal versus temporal clear corneal incision cataract surgery. Methods: Patients were diagnosed with age-related cataract with corneal astigmatism < 1.5 diopters (D) and were divided into two groups: superotemporal incision (R group) and temporal incision (L group). Uncorrected visual acuity, manifest refraction, corneal topography, anterior segment optical coherence tomography was performed pre- and six months postoperatively. Total ocular astigmatism, corneal astigmatism, vector of surgically induced corneal astigmatism (SICA), non-corneal ocular residual astigmatism (N-CORA), postoperative intraocular lens decentration and tilt were analyzed. Results: Thirty-eight subjects were included: 21, R group; 17, L group. After surgery, the N-CORA decreased significantly from 1.17±0.72 D to 0.73±0.47 D in all patients (P=0.001), 1.03±0.52 D to 0.70±0.40 D in the R group (P=0.005) and 1.35±0.90 D to 0.78±0.55 D in the L group (P=0.033). Significant differences between the R and L groups were found in the postoperative meridian of anterior corneal astigmatism (75.95±52.50 vs 116.79±47.29; P=0.017), total corneal astigmatism (51.65±42.75 vs 95.20±57.32; P=0.011), J45 change vector of SICA in the anterior cornea (-0.10±0.18 vs 0.00±0.11; P=0.048) and total cornea surface (-0.14±0.17 vs 0.03±0.12; P=0.001). Conclusion: The N-CORA decreased significantly after cataract surgery. Superotemporal and temporal incisions caused differences in the meridian components of oblique astigmatism in some patients but did not have a significant effect on the magnitude of corneal astigmatism. In science education, chemistry is a discipline that involves macroscopic matter and microscopic particles. It is difficult for the traditional teaching approach to help learners comprehend abstract chemical knowledge. Researchers have attempted to use Virtual Reality (VR) to help learners realize meaningful knowledge via visualizing the learning content. However, merely engaging students in experiencing the scientific contexts is not enough. To fill this gap, the present study adopted Spherical Video-based Virtual Reality (SVVR) to create authentic learning contexts for learners, and proposed an exploration-based SVVR approach which aimed to promote students’ understanding of abstract concepts and improve their competence of completing chemistry experiments. A quasi-experimental design was employed to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. A total of 136 junior high school students from three classes were recruited for the experiment. The experimental group adopted the exploration-based SVVR approach, control group I adopted the conventional SVVR approach, and control group II adopted traditional instruction. The results showed that the exploration-based SVVR approach not only improved students’ learning achievement, but also increased their learning motivation, learning attitude, and creative thinking tendency. Separation-induced shock reflections in straight ducts are generally considered asymmetric for Mach numbers beyond 2.2, but our experiment shows that this is not always the case. A symmetric shock pattern, a proven outcome of following the free-interaction theory (FIT), is observed to appear in an oscillatory duct flow at a Mach number of 2.47. Interestingly, its existence is restricted to the period when the shocks move forward. Once a full retreat starts, it changes suddenly into an utterly asymmetric style that conforms to the past observation. The genus Bambusa belongs to the subtribe Bambusinae and the subfamily Bambusoideae. The subgenera of Bambusa has not been satisfactorily circumscribed, and this remains a major taxonomic issue. Simultaneously, genera such as Dendrocalamus and Gigantochloa have not been confidently assigned to Bambusa. Here, the phylogenetic relationships among subgenera were investigated using five chloroplast DNA markers (rpl32-trnL, rpl16, matK, rbcL, and trnH-psbA) for a sample of 50 ingroup and 16 outgroup species. A total of 186 key morphological descriptors were studied for the 50 ingroup species. The results indicated that five chloroplast DNA markers were possible to distinguish Bambusa species from other species and divide them into several clusters. Phylogenetic analyses conducted using morphological descriptors and a combined marker (rpl32-trnL+rpl16) revealed three and five distinct lineages, respectively, among the currently recognized Bambusa species. The branching pattern of the dendrogram was not completely consistent with the classical taxonomic classification of Bambusa. In addition, not all varieties and cultivars were clustered with McClure classifications. As the maximum parsimony topology and morphological analyses were inconsistent, some clustering results overlapped. Several challenges exist in computer-supported collaborative learning environments, such as the potential for distraction and student boredom and isolation, which may adversely affect the quality of collaborative learning and knowledge construction. On the other hand, as an innovative learning tool, physical robots are seen as successful collaborative learning facilitators that can raise student engagement, strengthen social presence, and boost learning results. Meanwhile, tasks designed based on Bloom's taxonomy further ensure students' attention and cognitive growth in robot-supported collaborative learning (RSCL) environments. Although some researchers have explored how to maintain engagement in previous studies on robots, it is still difficult due to the lack of a commonly employed annotation method for evaluating engagement. Therefore, this study proposed the interactive, constructive, active, passive, and behavioral (ICAPB) engagement coding model, combining cognitive and behavioral engagement, to comprehensively analyze the relationship between pre-knowledge, student engagement, and learning achievement in the RSCL environment. An experiment was conducted in a first-aid course at a university to evaluate the effectiveness of this approach. The study involved a total of 36 students using a collaborative robotic system with Bloom's taxonomy. The results showed that pre-knowledge, whether at a high or low level, did not significantly affect students' posttest scores. In poultry, feed restriction is common feeding management to limit poultry nutrients intake so that poultry only intake the essential energy, meeting the basic need of growth and development. Our study investigated whether feeding restriction affects the diversity of the intestinal microbiota of growing breeding ducks. In this research, the 60–120-day-old ducks were raised in restricted and free-feeding groups. After slaughtering, the carcass traits and the cecal contents were collected for 16S rRNA sequencing analysis. After feeding restriction, the growth rate of ducks was limited, the weight and rate of abdominal fat decreased, and the rate of chest and leg muscles increased. In addition, feeding restriction can also change the diversity of intestinal microorganisms in breeding ducks, such as the increase of Firmicutes abundance and the decrease of Bacteroidetes abundance. After analyzing of correlation, significant correlations between gut microbiota and carcass phenotypes were found. The results indicated that gut microbiota might be involved in the life activities associated with phenotypic changes. This study proved the effect of feeding methods on the intestinal microbiota of ducks, providing a theoretical basis of the microbial angle for raising ducks in a feeding-restricted period. The present study reviewed the papers in the Scopus database relevant to flipped classrooms in all mathematics subject areas published up until 2018 from various dimensions. It was found that there has been a considerable number of studies on flipped classrooms in mathematics education in these years. The majority were conducted in university courses, such as applied mathematics, discrete mathematics/algebra, and analysis. Most of the researchers adopted quantitative methods. In the before-class stage of the mathematics flipped classroom, a number of studies employed online learning systems or social media to provide instructional videos and to carry out online discussion. As for the in-class stage, the most frequently adopted learning strategies were issue discussion, exercise, and problem-based learning, while only a few studies used technologies in this stage. The majority of studies investigated students' learning achievement, motivation, satisfaction, and collaboration and communication awareness. Most studies administered examinations to evaluate the students' learning achievement. It is worth noting that little or no research was found to explore students' cognitive load. Lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) possesses a poor prognosis even for stages I–III resected patients. Reliable prognostic biomarkers that can stratify and predict clinical outcomes for stage I–III resected LUSC patients are urgently needed. Based on gene expression of LUSC tissue samples from five public datasets, consisting of 687 cases, we developed an immune-related prognostic model (IPM) according to immune genes from ImmPort database. Then, we comprehensively analyzed the immune microenvironment and mutation burden that are significantly associated with this model. According to the IPM, patients were stratified into high- and low-risk groups with markedly distinct survival benefits. We found that patients with high immune risk possessed a higher proportion of immunosuppressive cells such as macrophages M0, and presented higher expression of CD47, CD73, SIRPA, and TIM-3. Moreover, When further stratified based on the tumor mutation burden (TMB) and risk score, patients with high TMB and low immune risk had a remarkable prolonged overall survival compared to patients with low TMB and high immune risk. Finally, a nomogram combing the IPM with clinical factors was established to provide a more precise evaluation of prognosis. The proposed immune relevant model is a promising biomarker for predicting overall survival in stage I–III LUSC. Oleate hydratase catalyzes the hydration of unsaturated fatty acids, giving access to C 10 -functionalization of oleic acid. The resultant 10-hydroxystearic acid is a key material for the synthesis of many biomass-derived value-added products. Herein, we report the engineering of an oleate hydratase from Paracoccus aminophilus (Pa OH) with significantly improved catalytic efficiency (from 33 s−1 mM−1 to 119 s−1 mM−1), as well as 3.4 times increased half-life at 30 °C. The structural mechanism regarding the impact of mutations on the improved catalytic activity and thermostability was elucidated with the aid of molecular dynamics simulation. The practical feasibility of the engineered Pa OH variant F233L/F122L/T15 N was demonstrated through the pilot synthesis of 10-hydroxystearic acid and 10-oxostearic acid via an optimized multi-enzymatic cascade reaction, with space-time yields of 540 g L−1 day−1 and 160 g L−1 day−1, respectively. Phosphorus is a limiting factor for eutrophication while also an important nonrenewable resource. Adsorption is one of the most efficient phosphorus pollution control technologies and phosphorus recovery can be promisingly achieved after desorption. The use of iron oxides as adsorbents to remove phosphorus has been extensively studied, due to merits of high adsorption capacity, high selectivity, as well as environmental benign. However, their effectiveness and feasibility in practical applications are still challenged. This review summarized the current achievements of using iron oxides and their modified products to remove phosphorus from wastewater. Phosphorus removal mechanisms and strategies for improving the performance of different types of iron oxide-based adsorbents were summarized. Moreover, the potential methods of phosphorus desorption and subsequent recovery were summarized. Finally, the future challenges on the practical application of iron oxides in phosphorus recovery from wastewater were discussed. Most of existing multimodal event classification methods fuse the traditional hand-crafted features with some manually defined weights, which may be not suitable to the event classification task with large amounts of photos. Besides, the feature extraction and event classification model are always performed separately, which cannot capture the most useful features to describe the semantic concepts of complex events. To deal with these issues, we propose a novel discriminative multimodal embedding (DME) model for event classification in user generated photos by jointly learning the representation together with the classifier in a unified framework. In the proposed DME model, we can effectively resolve the multimodal, intra-class variation and inter-class confusion challenges by using the contrastive constraints on the multimodal event data. The present study aims to investigate the trends of mobile learning in physical education by reviewing the journal publications from the Scopus database. Several dimensions, including application domains, adopted mobile devices, research methods, research subjects, adopted teaching strategies, research issues, and learning locations are taken into account. The results show that the number of mobile learning papers in physical education has increased year after year, and that the integration of new mobile technologies into physical education activities is becoming much more common. The adoption of mobile devices in physical education and professional training, especially for the development of smartphones and wearable devices, facilitates the abundance of physical education and the growth of social physical education; however, the overall usage of such high-tech devices as wearable technologies is still limited. Most attention has been paid to communities on university campuses, but more focus should be placed on junior and senior high school and elementary school students. Currently, the types of sports involved in mobile learning are comparatively few; most focus on dynamic physical education. The application of mainstream teaching strategies of mobile learning in physical education is also limited. Electroacupuncture (EA) has been widely applied for overactive bladder, but the mechanism of its action remains to be clarified. This study was aimed to investigate EA regulating the effect of purinergic signaling in the OAB of rats. Electroacupuncture (continuous wave, 30 Hz, 1 mA) was applied to stimulate the Ciliao point (BL32) and the Huiyang point (BL35) of rats. Results showed that when the P2X3 receptor in bladder peripheral level and the spinal cord central level was involved in the bladder micturition reflex of the afferent signaling, intravenous administration P2X3 antagonist AF-353 can significantly inhibit urination in naive rats and OAB of rats and increase bladder volume and micturition pressure. EA stimulation alleviated bladder overactivity significantly and after the P2X3 receptor was blocked, the EA effect was weakened. EA stimulation can effectively reduce the P2X3 mRNA and protein expression in OAB of rats, spinal cord (L6-S1), and DRG (L6-S1) and can significantly reduce the number of positive P2X3 cells in OAB of rats, spinal cord (L6-S1), and DRG (L6-S1). This study aimed to determine the effects of l -arginine (L-Arg) supplementation on steroid hormone receptors in non-pregnant ovine endometrium. All experimental ewes were randomly assigned to either a control group (n = 6), a nutrient-restricted group (n = 6), or an L-Arg supplemented nutrient-restricted group (n = 6). The effects of L-Arg on estrogen receptor α/β (ERα/β) and progesterone receptor (PGR) expression in the ovine endometrium were assessed. Our results showed that levels of ERβ and PGR expression were significantly increased by nutrient restriction, but L-Arg counteracted the effect of nutrient restriction on ERβ and PGR expression (p < 0.05). Also, expression of endometrial ERα was substantially increased (p < 0.05) by L-Arg supplementation. Furthermore, ERα/β and PGR were mainly detected in the endometrial luminal epithelium and glandular epithelium. Therefore, we isolated and identified endometrial epithelial cells (EECs) from sheep. Different concentrations of L-Arg were added to investigate the effects on ERα/β and PGR in EECs. The expression levels of endothelial nitric oxide synthase, ERβ, and PGR were significantly increased in response to low-concentration (200 μmol) L-Arg supplementation, which subsequently decreased with a high concentration (800 μmol) (p < 0.05). Otherwise, ERα expression was remarkably increased at both L-Arg concentrations in EECs (p < 0.05). Overall, the results indicated that L-Arg performed crucial roles in the regulation of ovine steroid hormone receptor expression in the endometrium. BACKGROUND: Current data is lacking about the progression of ascending aortic dilatation after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in aortic stenosis (AS) patients with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) and tricuspid aortic valve (TAV). This study aims to assess the ascending aortic dilatation rate (mm/ year) after TAVR in patients with BAV versus TAV using a multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) follow-up and to determine the predictors of ascending aortic dilatation rate. METHODS: Severe AS patients undergoing TAVR from March 2013 to March 2018 at our center with MDCT follow-ups were included. BAV and TAV were identified using baseline MDCT. Baseline and follow-up MDCT images were analyzed, and the diameters of ascending aorta were measured. Study end point is ascending aortic dilatation rate (mm/year). Furthermore, factors predicting ascending aortic dilatation rate were also investigated. RESULTS: Two hundred and eight patients were included, comprised of 86 BAV and 122 TAV patients. Five, 4, 3, 2, and 1-year MDCT follow-ups were achieved in 7, 9, 30, 46, and 116 patients. The ascending aortic diameter was significantly increased after TAVR in both BAV group (43.7±4.4 mm vs. 44.0±4.5 mm; P<0.001) and TAV group (39.1±4.8 mm vs. 39.7±5.1 mm; P<0.001). However, no difference of ascending aortic dilatation rate was found between BAV and TAV group (0.2±0.8 mm/year vs. 0.3±0.8 mm/year, P=0.592). Multivariate linear regression revealed paravalvular leakage (PVL) grade was independently associated with ascending aortic dilatation rate in the whole population and BAV group, but not TAV group. No aortic events occurred during follow-ups. CONCLUSION: Ascending aortic size continues to grow after TAVR in BAV patients, but the dilatation rate is mild and comparable to that of TAV patients. We present a measurement method for obtaining three-dimensional (3-D) images of the thoracic and abdominal body surface during respiration. This method generates a color pattern composed of R, G, and B cosine stripe patterns to obtain a single image-based 3-D measurement. The 3-D wavelet transform is adopted to extract wrapped phases from a stripe image sequence to improve the accuracy of the wrapped phase extraction. Then, a two-frequency temporal phase unwrapping formula is proposed and extended to a multifrequency formula according to the geometric relationship between the wrapped and the unwrapped phase curves, which enhances its anti-interference performance and calculation speed. Simulations and body measurements reveal that the proposed method can effectively measure the 3-D body surface during respiration. By using multiple characteristic parameters, this method overcomes the limitation of only using feature points to represent respiratory movement on the thoracic and abdominal body surface. Design of green and low-cost S-scheme heterojunctions with strong interface interactions is critical to their photocatalytic performance and practical application. Here, novel S-scheme heterojunctions of 0D/2D carbon quantum dots/Bi 2 WO 6 (CQDs/Bi 2 WO 6) were successfully fabricated by an in-situ hydrothermal process, where the CQDs were derived from waste biomass. The Bi-O-C bonds were formed at their interface, providing an atomic-level interfacial channel for promoting charge separation. As supported by work function calculations, in-situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analyses, an S-scheme charge migration path was unveiled within the CQDs/Bi 2 WO 6 during the photocatalytic reaction. The 3 wt%CQDs/Bi 2 WO 6 S-scheme heterojunction displayed an optimal photocatalytic activity, which is 4.01 and 64.71 times higher than those of Bi 2 WO 6 and CQDs, respectively. Based on theoretical calculations and experimental results, the photocatalytic mechanism, possible intermediates, and degradation pathways were enunciated. Furthermore, the non-toxicity of the developed heterojunction and degraded tetracycline solution was testified by E.coli cultivation. Fat deposition in muscle includes intramuscular fat (IMF) and intermuscular fat. IMF content is an index of pork quality; however, because IMF content is difficult to measure in vivo in young animals, conventional breeding for IMF content is difficult to carry out. The mechanism and progression of animal fat deposition is not well understood, and there are currently no effective control methods. In this study, using Laiwu and large white pigs as the research subjects and RNA sequencing technology, we analyzed the genetic mechanism of animal fat deposition in pigs. Specifically, we analyzed the features of lncRNAs and their potential target genes. We obtained 464 million clean reads, from which 907 lncRNAs were identified. The cis and trans analysis identified target genes, including genes that were upregulated (286) and downregulated (621) in the fatty and lean pigs. ENSSSCG00000008692_ADD1, ENSSSCG00000023124_ADD1 and ENSSSCG00000005918_DGAT1 were validated as target genes of the lncRNAs and were shown to be closely related to fat deposition. These results provide a basis for studying the different metabolic lncRNA expression of IMF deposition. Determination of laser frequency with high resolution under continuous and abrupt tuning conditions is important for sensing, spectroscopy, and communications. We show that a single microresonator provides rapid and broadband measurement of optical frequencies with a relative frequency precision comparable to that of conventional dual-frequency comb systems. Dual-locked counterpropagating solitons having slightly different repetition rates were used to implement a vernier spectrometer, which enabled characterization of laser tuning rates as high as 10 terahertz per second, broadly step-tuned lasers, multiline laser spectra, and molecular absorption lines. Besides providing a considerable technical simplification through the dual-locked solitons and enhanced capability for measurement of arbitrarily tuned sources, our results reveal possibilities for chip-scale spectrometers that exceed the performance of tabletop grating and interferometer-based devices. Abstract A complete reconstruction scheme for synthetic aperture in-line digital holograms with seams is proposed. The width of seams and the stitching error are first estimated by an algorithm combined image matching with phase factor. Then a method based on the shift theorem of the Fourier transform is presented to correct the stitching error of the adjacent sub-holograms. After being correct synthesis, means prefilled synthetic aperture digital holograms are reconstructed by using improved phase retrieval algorithm. The particle detection experiment is conducted. The result shows lost particle in seams are recovered and the correlation coefficient between the reconstructed image and the particles target image tripled in contrast to the traditional method. The objectives of this study were to evaluate meat colour, antioxidant performance of longissimus muscle in different pig breeds, including five Chinese native pig breeds, a Chinese bred pig breed as well as a commercial crossbred pig breed, and to analyse the relationships between meat colour and antioxidant capacity. The results showed that the Chinese native and bred pig breeds have higher meat colour and marbling scores than commercial crossbred pigs. The Chinese native and bred pig breeds showed significantly stronger total antioxidant capacity and superoxide dismutase activity, and lower malondialdehyde contents than commercial crossbred pigs. Moreover, the total antioxidant capacity, superoxide dismutase activity were positively correlated with visual colour, a * and chroma, and negatively correlated with L * and hue angle; on the contrary, the malondialdehyde content was negatively correlated with visual colour, marbling, a *, b * and chroma, and positively correlated with L * and hue angle. In addition, principal component 1 and 2 explained 46.41% and 18.30% of the total variance. These results indicated that meat colour and antioxidant capacity were affected by pig breeds, and meat colour was strongly correlated with antioxidant capacity. Comparative study between Chinese native pig breeds and commercial crossbred pigs can provide information on meat colour and antioxidant capacity of different breeds. This is a preliminary study on antioxidant capacity in Chinese native pig breeds, exhibiting higher antioxidant capacity than commercial crossbred pig. This discovery could provide a new perspective on meat colour and antioxidant capacity, and these results implied that there was a strong relationship between meat colour and antioxidant capacity. An expedient organic photoredox Pschorr reaction has been developed that opens up a synthetic route to 6H-benzo[c]chromenes. The process can be performed under mild conditions by using eosin Y as a photoredox catalyst and acetonitrile as the solvent. The diazonium salts can be either preformed or generated in situ from the corresponding amines with t-BuONO. The process is amenable to gram-sale synthesis of 6H-benzo[c]chromenes, which can be further transformed into both 6H-benzo[c]chromen-6-ones through oxidation or to 6H-benzo[c]chromen-6-amine through sp³ C-H bond amination. We propose an adaptive search algorithm for solving simulation optimization problems with Lipschitz continuous objective functions. The method combines the strength of several popular strategies in simulation optimization. It employs the shrinking ball method to estimate the performance of sampled solutions and uses the performance estimates to fit a surrogate model that iteratively approximates the response surface of the objective function. The search for improved solutions at each iteration is then based on sampling from a promising region (a subset of the decision space) adaptively constructed to contain the point that optimizes the surrogate model. Under appropriate conditions, we show that the algorithm converges to the set of local optimal solutions with probability one. Abstract: Ultimate pH (pHu) is a major determinant factor of meat quality. In this study, we investigated the effects of pHu on the muscle antioxidant capacity, and the relationship between pHu and muscle antioxidant capacity of pigs. A total of 137 pigs from three pig breeds with the same feeding condition were slaughtered and used to measure the pHu, superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH‐PX), total antioxidant capacity (T‐AOC), and malondialdehyde (MDA) content, and gene expression of SOD1 and GPX4. Loins from 137 pigs of three breeds were classified based on pHu into three groups: low (L‐pH: ≤5.50), intermediate (I‐pH: 5.51‐5.90), and high (H‐pH: ≥5.91). A majority of loins (47.5%–52%) were classified into the intermediate group. The results suggested that the pHu value was correlated with the activity of SOD, GSH‐PX, T‐AOC, and MDA, and gene expression of SOD1 and GPX4 in all pigs. In addition, our results also indicated a linear relationship between the pHu value and antioxidant traits. The pHu value accounted for 23%–40% of the variation in the antioxidant traits. These results suggested that increased pHu reduce the lipid peroxidation, and also indicated that pHu may be a key factor explaining the variation in the activity of antioxidant enzymes and gene expression in pork loins. The first visible-light-mediated photoredox oxidative approach for generating carbamoyl radicals from oxamic acids is disclosed. Reaction of the generated carbamoyl radicals with electron-deficient alkenes opens efficient access to 3,4-dihydroquinolin-2(1H)-ones under mild conditions through a sequence of intermolecular radical addition, cyclization, and aromatization. Objective: It is well known that patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have a high risk of atrial fibrillation (AF). The current study was designed to determine the relationship between long-term glycemic variability and incidence of new-onset AF in T2DM patients. Methods: Between January 2008 and December 2009, we conducted a retrospective cohort study in patients with T2DM referred to our hospital. In 505 consecutive patients without any medical history of AF at baseline, the relationship between hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) variability and future AF incidence was evaluated, with adjustments for other possible confounding factors. HbA1c variability was determined by standard deviation (SD) and coefficient of variation (CV). Results: Over a median of 6.9-year follow-up period, 48 patients (9.5%) developed incident AF. Multiple cox regression revealed that higher HbA1c-SD (HR: 1.726, 95% CI: 1.104-1.830, p=0.001) or HbA1c-CV (HR: 1.241, 95% CI: 1.029-1.497, p=0.024) remained the remarkable predictor of new-onset AF after adjusting for age, body mass index, left ventricular mass index, and left atrium diameter. Receiver operating curve analysis identified thresholds for HbA1c-SD (0.665%, sensitivity 71.4%, specificity 54.9%) and HbA1c-CV (8.970%, sensitivity 73.8%, specificity 47.1%) to detect new-onset AF development. Nuclear tandemly repeated ribosomal RNA genes (18S-5.8S-25S rDNA and 5S rDNA) have been proven to be excellent cytogenetic markers for karyotype analysis of various higher plants by using the fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) technique. To illustrate physical mapping of these rDNAs in brown seaweed, Saccharina japonica, chromosomes, an approximately 5400-bp transcription unit of 18S-5.8S-25S rDNA was assembled by cloning the 25S rDNA after paired-end sequencing of two screened clones from a bacterial artificial chromosome library of kelp gametophytes. In contrast to the conserved 18S-5.8S-25S rDNA and ITS1 in S. japonica, the 245-bp ITS2 was variable in sequence. The cloned 5S rDNA revealed that the 120-bp conserved coding region was separated by a diverse intergenic spacer sequence that were 250, 445, 905, or 1335 bp in length. On average, the 18S-5.8S-25S rDNA of kelp female and male gametophytes had 45 and 41 copies per haploid genome, respectively, as detected by quantitative real-time PCR, whereas the 5S rDNA had 2590 and 2648 copies, respectively. Southern hybridization with labeled probes of 18S rDNA or 5S rDNA demonstrated that kelp gametophytes possessed only one locus each of the 18S-5.8S-25S or 5S rDNAs. This was further confirmed by FISH analysis using the same labeled probes, thus illustrating that 18S-5.8S-25S rDNA is located at the intercalary region of chromosome 23, whereas 5S rDNA at the sub-telomeric region of chromosomes 27. Plant-specific WRKY transcription factors (TFs) have been implicated to function as regulators of leaf senescence, but their association with postharvest leaf senescence of economically important leafy vegetables, is poorly understood. In this work, the characterization of a Group IIe WRKY TF, BrWRKY65, from Chinese flowering cabbage (Brassica rapa var. parachinensis) is reported. The expression of BrWRKY65 was up-regulated following leaf chlorophyll degradation and yellowing during postharvest senescence. Subcellular localization and transcriptional activation assays showed that BrWRKY65 was localized in the nucleus and exhibited trans-activation ability. Further electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) and transient expression analysis clearly revealed that BrWRKY65 directly bound to the W-box motifs in the promoters of three senescence-associated genes (SAGs) such as BrNYC1 and BrSGR1 associated with chlorophyll degradation, and BrDIN1, and subsequently activated their expressions. These findings demonstrate that BrWRKY65 may be positively associated with postharvest leaf senescence, at least partially, by the direct activation of SAGs. Subset heterogeneity of the mononuclear phagocyte system ( MPS) is controlled by defined transcriptional networks and programs; however, the dynamic establishment of programs that control broad, orchestrated expression of transcription factors ( TFs) during the progression of monocyte-into-phagocyte ( MP) differentiation remains largely unexplored. By using chromatin immunoprecipitation assays, we show the extensive trimethylation of histone H3 lysine 4 (H3K4me3) as well as histone H3 lysine 27 (H3K27me3) occupancy with broad footprints at the promoters of MP differentiation-related TFs, such as HOXA and FOXO genes, KLF4, IRF8 and others. The rapid repression of HOXA genes was closely associated with the MP differentiation program. H3K4me3 participates in regulating HOXA genes at mild and terminal differentiation periods, while H3K27me3 maintains low-level expression of HOXA genes at phagocytic maintenance periods. Furthermore, the reprogramming of H3K27me3 plays a major role in the up-regulation of KLF4 and FOXO genes during MP differentiation. Importantly, the pharmacological inhibition of H3K4me3 and/or H3K27me3 strikingly promotes the differentiation programs of THP-1 and K562 cells. Together, these findings elucidate mechanisms crucial to the dynamic establishment of epigenetic memory, which is central to the maintenance of the MP differentiation blockade. Telomeres generally consist of short repeats of minisatellite DNA sequences and are useful in chromosome identification and karyotype analysis. To date, telomeres have not been characterized in the economically important brown seaweed Saccharina japonica, thus its full cytogenetic research and genetic breeding potential has not been realized. Herein, the tentative sequence of telomeres in S. japonica was identified by PCR amplification with primers designed based on the Arabidopsis-type telomere sequence ( TTTAGGG)n, which was chosen out of three possible telomeric repeat DNA sequences typically present in plants and algae. After PCR optimization and cloning, sequence analysis of the amplified products from S. japonica genomic DNA showed that they were composed of repeat units, ( TTTAGGG)n, in which the repeat number ranged from 15 to 63 ( n = 46). This type of repeat sequence was verified by a Southern blot assay with the Arabidopsis-type telomere sequence as a probe. The digestion of S. japonica genomic DNA with the exonuclease Bal31 illustrated that the target sequence corresponding to the Arabidopsis-type telomere sequence was susceptible to Bal31 digestion, suggesting that the repeat sequence was likely located at the outermost ends of the kelp chromosomes. Fluorescence in situ hybridizations with the aforementioned probe provided the initial cytogenetic evidence that the hybridization signals were principally localized at both ends of S. japonica chromosomes. This study indicates that the telomeric repeat of the kelp chromosomes is ( TTTAGGG)n which differs from the previously reported ( TTAGGG)n sequence in Ectocarpus siliculosus through genome sequencing, thereby suggesting distinct telomeres in brown seaweeds. A rectangular hypersonic inlet is tested at the low-speed mode (Ma 5), the design mode (Ma 6), and the overspeed mode (Ma 7) to enrich the understanding of hypersonic-inlet unstart. A flow plug is placed at the duct exit to simulate the combustion-induced high pressure and initiate the inlet unstart. High-speed schlieren imaging and time-resolved pressure measurements are used simultaneously to record the unsteady-flow structures and surface pressures of the unstart process. The results indicate that the unstart processes are basically the same for the low-speed mode and the design mode. An unstart phenomenon dominated by the ramp-side flow separation, which exhibits violent fluctuations along the entire duct with a low frequency, is observed at these two operating modes. While operating at the overspeed mode, the strong shear layer, induced by the Mach reflection of the coalesced external oblique shock, divides the internal flow into two parts. The cowl side is filled by fully subsonic flow after the compression of the detached normal shock, and the ramp side mainly contains supersonic flow downstream of the shear-layer-induced oblique shock. Therefore, a real-time adjustment of the detached cowl shock to the downstream high pressure is formed, keeping the entire flowfield of the inlet from oscillation in a much wider range of throttling ratio. With a further increase of the throttling ratio, an oscillation dominated by the cowl-side reversed flow occurs. Measurement of optical and vibrational spectra with high resolution provides a way to identify chemical species in cluttered environments and is of general importance in many fields. Dual-comb spectroscopy has emerged as a powerful approach for acquiring nearly instantaneous Raman and optical spectra with unprecedented resolution. Spectra are generated directly in the electrical domain, without the need for bulky mechanical spectrometers. We demonstrate a miniature soliton-based dual-comb system that can potentially transfer the approach to a chip platform. These devices achieve high-coherence pulsed mode locking. They also feature broad, reproducible spectral envelopes, an essential feature for dual-comb spectroscopy. A new protocol for orthogonal sp3 C1–H and N–H bond functionalization of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolines has been established via the Ugi four-component reaction with aldehydes, isonitriles, and carboxylic acids. It was revealed that only the N–H bond could be functionalized when the reaction was performed in acetonitrile at room temperature; however, when the reaction was carried out in toluene at 80 °C, redox-neutral sp3 C1–H bond functionalization of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolines was achieved. Differing from the common role of carboxylic acid as a promoter in redox-neutral amine α-functionalization, the carboxylic acid employed herein is also a reactant. Based on an analysis of the strengthening and toughening mechanisms of natural composites (shells and pearls) and the biomimetic principle, a new type of hexagonal honeycomb shelter was designed using concrete-filled steel tubes. Experiments were conducted to investigate the anti-penetration properties of the honeycomb shelter. The experimental results showed that in contrast to a reinforced concrete shelter, damage from an impacting projectile only occurred within a single hexagonal unit of the honeycomb shelter; in addition, the damaged area on the honeycomb shelter was relatively small. Furthermore, the projectile tended to yaw when it penetrated the honeycomb shelter. The results of the experiments on the honeycomb shelter were also analyzed in terms of stress wave propagation, which was examined using a numerical simulation. The analysis showed that due to the restriction and obstruction effects of the hexagonal steel tubes on the concrete within the steel tubes, the resistance on the projectile increased during the penetration process, which reduced the damage caused by the projectile. In recent years, several researchers have introduced spherical video-based virtual reality (SVVR) into classroom teaching to help students learn different subjects. In SVVR learning, learners are typically presented with great autonomy over their learning process. Therefore, learners should engage in self-regulated strategy (SRS) learning in order to successfully study in SVVR. However, learners often struggle to self-regulate their learning. Therefore, we implemented a SRS intervention in SVVR. In this study, a SVVR environment was developed to situate students in art history contexts; moreover, the SRS was employed to guide students to improve their performance and to make reflections on their own performance. In order to evaluate the proposed approach's effectiveness, we carried out an experiment in a university art history class. The experiment results reveal more positive effects of the SRS-based SVVR approach compared with the non-SRS-based SVVR approach in terms of the learners' learning achievements, self-regulation, meta-cognitive awareness, as well as self-efficacy. In addition, this study specified that this approach would not have an effect on students' cognitive load. From the perspective of forensic wound age estimation, experiments related to skeletal muscle regeneration after injury have rarely been reported. Here, we examined the time-dependent expression patterns of multiple biomarkers associated with satellite cell fate, including the transcription factor paired box 7 (Pax7), myoblast determination protein (MyoD), myogenin, and insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1), using immunohistochemistry, western blotting, and quantitative real-time PCR in contused skeletal muscle. An animal model of skeletal muscle contusion was established in 30 Sprague–Dawley male rats, and another five rats were employed as non-contused controls. Morphometrically, the data obtained from the numbers of Pax7 + , MyoD + , and myogenin + cells were highly correlated with the wound age. Pax7, MyoD, myogenin, and IGF-1 expression patterns were upregulated after injury at both the mRNA and protein levels. Pax7, MyoD, and myogenin protein expression levels confirmed the results of the morphometrical analysis. Additionally, the relative quantity of IGF-1 protein > 0.92 suggested a wound age of 3 to 7 days. The relative quantity of Pax7 mRNA > 2.44 also suggested a wound age of 3 to 7 days. Relative quantities of Myod1, Myog, and Igf1 mRNA expression > 2.78, > 7.80, or > 3.13, respectively, indicated a wound age of approximately 3 days. In conclusion, the expression levels of Pax7, MyoD, myogenin, and IGF-1 were upregulated in a time-dependent manner during skeletal muscle wound healing, suggesting the potential for using them as candidate biomarkers for wound age estimation in skeletal muscle. Previously, we developed and validated a multiplex assay of 27 ancestry-informative markers (AIMs) for analyzing African (AFR), European (EUR), and East Asian (EAS) ancestry components. In this study, we typed and collectively analyzed a large Uyghur sample of 979 individuals to estimate the genetic coefficients of the 27 AIMs and investigate differentiation parameters between Uyghur and Han. The Uyghur allele frequencies ranged from 0.243 to 0.952, and heterozygosities ranged from 0.091 to 0.500. Values of F3 and I3 for EUR, Uyghur, and EAS ranged from 0.028 to 0.550 and 0.0002 to 0.345, respectively. The Uyghur population displays a substantial ancestry contribution of 50.3:49.7 (EUR:EAS) and was efficiently discriminated from Han Chinese with an accuracy of 99.285 %. All populations were clustered into AFR, EUR, EAS, and admixture groups of these three ancestries. Central Asian was obviously stratified from the other admixture populations of South Asians, North Asians, and the Americans. The 27 SNPs yield a circle with an average distance of 0.936 from the center (0, 0) in PCA analysis. Using this set, Chinese Uyghur and Han populations achieved accurate differentiation, and our updated genotype database (by citing 1000 Genomes data) of 43 worldwide populations is a useful resource for forensic applications and disease association studies.
