Abstract Crystalline-silicon heterojunction back contact solar cells represent the forefront of photovoltaic technology, but encounter significant challenges in managing charge carrier recombination and transport to achieve high efficiency. In this study, we produced highly efficient heterojunction back contact solar cells with a certified efficiency of 27.09% using a laser patterning technique. Our findings indicate that recombination losses primarily arise from the hole-selective contact region and polarity boundaries. We propose solutions to these issues and establish a clear relationship between contact resistivity, series resistance, and the design of the rear-side pattern. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the wafer edge becomes the main channel for current density loss caused by carrier recombination once electrical shading around the electron-selective contact region is mitigated. With the advanced nanocrystalline passivating contact, wafer edge passivation technologies and meticulous optimization of front anti-reflection coating and rear reflector, achieving efficiencies as high as 27.7% is feasible.

Abstract Background Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remains a major death cause in head and neck cancers, but the exact pathogenesis mechanisms of OSCC are largely unclear. Results Saliva derived from OSCC patients but not healthy controls (HCs) significantly promotes OSCC development and progression in rat models, and metabolomic analyses reveal saliva of OSCC patients but not HCs and OSCC tissues but not adjacent non-tumor tissues contain higher levels of kynurenic acid (KYNA). Furthermore, large amounts of Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) colonize in OSCC tumor tissues, and such intratumoral S. mutans mediates KYNA overproductions via utilizing its protein antigen c (PAc). KYNA shifts the cellular types in the tumor microenvironment (TME) of OSCC and predominantly expedites the expansions of S100a8highS100a9high neutrophils to produce more interleukin 1β (IL-1β), which further expands neutrophils and induces CD8 + T cell exhaustion in TME and therefore promotes OSCC. Also, KYNA compromises the therapeutic effects of programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) and IL-1β blockades in oral carcinogenesis model. Moreover, KYNA-mediated immunosuppressive program and aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) expression correlate with impaired anti-tumor immunity and poorer survival of OSCC patients. Conclusions Thus, aberration of oral microbiota and intratumoral colonization of specific oral bacterium such as S. mutans may increase the production of onco-metabolites, exacerbate the oral mucosal carcinogenesis, reprogram a highly immunosuppressive TME, and promote OSCC, highlighting the potential of interfering with oral microbiota and microbial metabolism for OSCC preventions and therapeutics. Abstract An edge-cloud computing collaborative dust concentration detection architecture is proposed for real-time operation of intelligent algorithms to reduce the warning delay. And, an end-to-end three-channel convolutional neural network (E2E-SCNN) method is proposed in the paper to facilitate intelligent monitoring and management of dust concentration in tobacco production workshops. This model, which includes three sub-networks-a local feature branch, a global feature branch, and a spatial feature branch, learns the detail texture, overall layout, and spatial distribution information of the input image respectively. A fusion of the three complementary features is performed at the end of the network for the final dust concentration regression prediction. The design, when compared with the single network structure that directly regresses the entire image, is shown to more fully represent the overall information of the image and enhance monitoring performance. A richly annotated image dataset of tobacco production workshops is constructed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The prediction error of E2E-SCNN is compared with existing image estimation algorithms, dual-channel networks, and other methods on this dataset using indicators such as Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and $${R}^{2}$$ R 2 . It is shown by the results that excellent performance is achieved by the E2E-SCNN algorithm, significantly surpassing other comparison methods. The paper demonstrates that the accuracy and robustness of dust concentration prediction can be greatly improved by using a three-channel convolutional neural network spatial information monitoring framework. This achievement provides an effective means for dust supervision and governance during the tobacco production process and offers a technical route that can be referred to for image analysis tasks in other similar fields.

Abstract In brain, the striatum is a heterogenous region involved in reward and goal-directed behaviors. Striatal dysfunction is linked to psychiatric disorders, including opioid use disorder (OUD). Striatal subregions are divided based on neuroanatomy, each with unique roles in OUD. In OUD, the dorsal striatum is involved in altered reward processing, formation of habits, and development of negative affect during withdrawal. Using single nuclei RNA-sequencing, we identified both canonical (e.g., dopamine receptor subtype) and less abundant cell populations (e.g., interneurons) in human dorsal striatum. Pathways related to neurodegeneration, interferon response, and DNA damage were significantly enriched in striatal neurons of individuals with OUD. DNA damage markers were also elevated in striatal neurons of opioid-exposed rhesus macaques. Sex-specific molecular differences in glial cell subtypes associated with chronic stress were found in OUD, particularly female individuals. Together, we describe different cell types in human dorsal striatum and identify cell type-specific alterations in OUD.

High yield is a major objective for peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) breeding worldwide. However, fewer yield-related quantitative trait loci (QTL) have been reported in peanut than in other staple food crops such as rice (Oryza sativa), wheat (Triticum aestivum), and maize (Zea mays). This study aimed to identify stable major-effect QTL associated with pod yield per plant, hundred-pod weight for double-seeded pods, hundred-seed weight, shelling percentage, and pod number per plant, allowing us to predict candidate genes by means of transcriptome and genome sequencing. To this end, we used a population of recombinant inbred lines comprising 192 F9:11 families derived from a JH6 × KX01-6 cross to construct a high-resolution genetic map (1705.7 cM) consisting of 2273 polymorphic SNPs, with 0.75 cM (on average) between adjacent SNPs. We identified two high-confidence, yield-related QTL, qHYF_A08 and qHYF_B06, explaining 5.78%–31.40% of phenotypic variation and with LOD values of 5.10–24.48, in six environments. qHYF_A08 mainly explained the variation in shelling percentage, whereas qHYF_B06 explained variation in hundred-pod weight and hundred-seed weight and accounted for 8.77%–31.40% of the variation in effective pod number per plant, pod number per plant, and shelling percentage. We narrowed down qHYF_B06 to an 890-kb interval using an advanced mapping population. Transcriptome and genome analyses revealed that only Arahy.129FS0 and Arahy.3R9A5K in the candidate mapping interval were differentially expressed between JH6 and KX01-6, with substantial structural variations in their promoter and coding regions. Genotypes of 208 peanut accessions determined using a diagnostic CAPS marker suggested that the two haplotypes of Arahy.3R9A5K were highly associated with hundred-seed weight and hundred-pod weight; this diagnostic CAPs marker could therefore be useful for selecting high-yielding lines during peanut breeding. Overall, our results provide valuable information for cloning alleles with favorable effects on peanut yield.

Advances in reconstructing the East Asian monsoon have provided important insights into the natural climate variability in Asia during the pre-instrumental period. However, there are still unresolved paleoclimate issues that necessitate the use of geological proxy data to further our understanding of past climate changes. This study focused on core B13, located in the muddy area of the North Yellow Sea (NYS), to investigate the evolutionary history over the past 1500 years and reconstruct the records of the East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) and Yellow Sea warm current (YSWC). The mean grain size of sediment ranged from 4.2 Φ to 5.6 Φ, with the sorting coefficient ranging from 1.9 to 2.2, indicating poor sorting. The C–M pattern showed a limited range of values, with the M values being between 33 and 83 μm and the C values being between 165 and 287 μm, suggesting uniform-suspension transport. The L* index ranged from 40.41 to 44.12, while the a* and b* indexes ranged from 0.55 to 1.78 and 2.86 to 5.94, respectively. A stable and relatively strong sedimentary environment is indicated through a comprehensive analysis of the C–M plot, triangular plot, the relationship between the mean grain size and sorting, and the changes in grain-size and color parameters. The sedimentary evolution in the muddy area of the NYS over the past 1500 years can be categorized into three distinct stages. In this study, proxies for the EASM and YSWC were extracted using the VPCA method from the sediment grain size and diffuse spectral reflectance (DSR) data, respectively. The reliability of these proxies has been confirmed through comparison with other validated proxies. The results indicated that the strength of the EASM and YSWC also exhibited three stages, corresponding to the Dark Ages Cold Period (DACP), Medieval Warm Period (MWP), and Little Ice Age (LIA), respectively. On a centennial scale, the correlation between the EASM and YSWC was predominantly negative. This research validates the reliability of the VPCA method for paleoclimate reconstruction, contributes important climate records in a special muddy area, and provides a new perspective on how to eliminate temporal errors in verifying the correlation between the two climate systems.

Abstract Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have induced durable clinical responses in a subset of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the dis-satisfactory response rate and the lack of appropriate biomarkers for selecting suitable patients to be treated with ICIs pose a major challenge to current immunotherapies. Inflammation-related molecule A20 is closely related to cancer immune response, but the effect of A20 on “eat-me” signal and immunotherapy efficacy remains elusive. We found that A20 downregulation prominently improved the antitumor immune response and the efficacy of PD-1 inhibitor in CRC in vitro and in vivo. Higher A20 expression was associated with less infiltration of immune cells including CD3 (+), CD8 (+) T cells and macrophages in CRC tissues and also poorer prognosis. Gain- and loss-A20 functional studies proved that A20 could decrease the “eat-me” signal calreticulin (CRT) protein on cell membrane translocation via upregulating stanniocalcin 1 (STC1), binding to CRT and detaining in mitochondria. Mechanistically, A20 inhibited GSK3β phosphorylating STC1 at Thr86 to slow down the degradation of STC1 protein. Our findings reveal a new crosstalk between inflammatory molecule A20 and “eat-me” signal in CRC, which may represent a novel predictive biomarker for selecting CRC patients most likely to benefit from ICI therapy.

Benzimidazole-2-carbamates (BZ, e.g., albendazole; ALB), which bind β-tubulin to disrupt microtubule polymerization, are one of two primary compound classes used to treat giardiasis. In most parasitic nematodes and fungi, BZ-resistance is caused by β-tubulin mutations and its molecular mode of action (MOA) is well studied. In contrast, in Giardia duodenalis BZ MOA or resistance is less well understood, may involve target-specific and broader impacts including cellular damage and oxidative stress, and its underlying cause is not clearly determined. Previously, we identified acquisition of a single nucleotide polymorphism, E198K, in β-tubulin in ALB-resistant (ALB-R) G. duodenalis WB-1B relative to ALB-sensitive (ALB-S) parental controls. E198K is linked to BZ-resistance in fungi and its allelic frequency correlated with the magnitude of BZ-resistance in G. duodenalis WB-1B. Here, we undertook detailed transcriptomic comparisons of these ALB-S and ALB-R G. duodenalis WB-1B cultures. The primary transcriptional changes with ALB-R in G. duodenalis WB-1B indicated increased protein degradation and turnover, and up-regulation of tubulin, and related genes, associated with the adhesive disc and basal bodies. These findings are consistent with previous observations noting focused disintegration of the disc and associated structures in Giardia duodenalis upon ALB exposure. We also saw transcriptional changes with ALB-R in G. duodenalis WB-1B consistent with prior observations of a shift from glycolysis to arginine metabolism for ATP production and possible changes to aspects of the vesicular trafficking system that require further investigation. Finally, we saw mixed transcriptional changes associated with DNA repair and oxidative stress responses in the G. duodenalis WB-1B line. These changes may be indicative of a role for H2O2 degradation in ALB-R, as has been observed in other G. duodenalis cell cultures. However, they were below the transcriptional fold-change threshold (log2FC > 1) typically employed in transcriptomic analyses and appear to be contradicted in ALB-R G. duodenalis WB-1B by down-regulation of the NAD scavenging and conversion pathways required to support these stress pathways and up-regulation of many highly oxidation sensitive iron-sulphur (FeS) cluster based metabolic enzymes.

Phage therapy is a potential approach in the biocontrol of foodborne pathogens. However, the emergence of phage resistance and the narrow host range of most phage isolates continue to limit the antimicrobial efficacy of phages. Here, we investigated the potential of the pqsA gene, encoding the anthranilate-CoA ligase enzyme, as an adjuvant for phage therapy. The knockout of the pqsA gene significantly enhanced the bactericidal effect of phages vB_Pae_QDWS and vB_Pae_S1 against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Under phage infection pressure, the growth of the PaΔpqsA was significantly inhibited within 8 h compared to the wild-type PAO1. Furthermore, we found that altering phage adsorption is not how PaΔpqsA responds to phage infection. Although pqsA represents a promising target for enhancing phage killing, it may not be applicable to all phages, such as types vB_Pae_W3 and vB_Pae_TR. Our findings provide new material reserves for the future design of novel phage-based therapeutic strategies.

Abstract To achieve real‐time and effective prediction of industrial site risks, this paper proposes an industrial risk prediction framework for multimodal data based on edge computing. First, the authors gather and annotate industrial risk multimodal data that consist of text descriptions, images, and videos. Then, the authors transfer the data to the edge server, and apply deep learning models such as Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT), ResNet etc., to extract features and learn representations for text, image, and video data respectively. The authors input the fused feature data into an enhanced long short term memory (LSTM) model and train it on the dataset. Finally, the authors perform the risk prediction based on the collected multimodal data. The experimental results demonstrate that the method proposed in this paper exhibits superior performance, achieving a 1.4% enhancement in predictive accuracy.

Developing shallow geothermal energy with borehole heat exchangers helps energy supply and CO2 emission reduction. This paper comprehensively investigates the influencing factors on heat transfer efficiency of a single borehole heat exchanger based on the field investigations in Linqu County, Shandong Province, China. We built a three-dimensional numerical model validated by a thermal response test. We systemically investigated the influence of groundwater seepage, circulating water flow rate, pipes spacing and length, the operation interval, and the annual operation mode on the heat transfer efficiency. The results show that the heat transfer efficiency decreases with long-term operation due to surrounding soil’s cold/heat accumulation. The groundwater seepage increases the heat transfer efficiency. The heat transfer efficiency increases with the pipe length, inlet and outlet pipes spacing, and operation interval. It decreases with the circulating water flow rate. The annual operation mode is of greatest importance in the heat transfer efficiency among the studied influencing factors. Compared to working only in winter, the average heat transfer efficiency coefficient increased by 0.152 when working in winter and summer. The results provide a reference for the practical installation and optimization of the borehole heat exchanger for sustainable utilization of shallow geothermal energy.

The clinical challenge of bone defects in the craniomaxillofacial region, which can lead to significant physiological dysfunction and psychological distress, persists due to the complex and unique anatomy of craniomaxillofacial bones. These critical-sized defects require the use of bone grafts or substitutes for effective reconstruction. However, current biomaterials and methods have specific limitations in meeting the clinical demands for structural reinforcement, mechanical support, exceptional biological performance, and aesthetically pleasing reconstruction of the facial structure. These drawbacks have led to a growing need for novel materials and technologies. The growing development of 3D printing can offer significant advantages to address these issues, as demonstrated by the fabrication of patient-specific bioactive constructs with controlled structural design for complex bone defects in medical applications using this technology. Poly (ether ether ketone) (PEEK), among a number of materials used, is gaining recognition as a feasible substitute for a customized structure that closely resembles natural bone. It has proven to be an excellent, conformable, and 3D-printable material with the potential to replace traditional autografts and titanium implants. However, its biological inertness poses certain limitations. Therefore, this review summarizes the distinctive features of craniomaxillofacial bones and current methods for bone reconstruction, and then focuses on the increasingly applied 3D printed PEEK constructs in this field and an update on the advanced modifications for improved mechanical properties, biological performance, and antibacterial capacity. Exploring the potential of 3D printed PEEK is expected to lead to more cost-effective, biocompatible, and personalized treatment of craniomaxillofacial bone defects in clinical applications.

Summary: Protein post-translational modifications (PTMs) participate in important bioactive regulatory processes and therefore can help elucidate the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Here, we investigate the involvement of PTMs in ketogenic diet (KD)-improved fatty liver by multi-omics and reveal a core target of lysine malonylation, acetyl-coenzyme A (CoA) carboxylase 1 (ACC1). ACC1 protein levels and Lys1523 malonylation are significantly decreased by KD. A malonylation-mimic mutant of ACC1 increases its enzyme activity and stability to promote hepatic steatosis, whereas the malonylation-null mutant upregulates the ubiquitination degradation of ACC1. A customized Lys1523ACC1 malonylation antibody confirms the increased malonylation of ACC1 in the NAFLD samples. Overall, the lysine malonylation of ACC1 is attenuated by KD in NAFLD and plays an important role in promoting hepatic steatosis. Malonylation is critical for ACC1 activity and stability, highlighting the anti-malonylation effect of ACC1 as a potential strategy for treating NAFLD.

Abstract Background Lymphatic metastasis has been associated with poor prognosis in bladder cancer patients with limited therapeutic options. Emerging evidence shows that heat shock factor 1 (HSF1) drives diversified transcriptome to promote tumor growth and serves as a promising therapeutic target. However, the roles of HSF1 in lymphatic metastasis remain largely unknown. Herein, we aimed to illustrate the clinical roles and mechanisms of HSF1 in the lymphatic metastasis of bladder cancer and explore its therapeutic potential. Methods We screened the most relevant gene to lymphatic metastasis among overexpressed heat shock factors (HSFs) and heat shock proteins (HSPs), and analyzed its clinical relevance in three cohorts. Functional in vitro and in vivo assays were performed in HSF1‐silenced and ‐regained models. We also used Co‐immunoprecipitation to identify the binding proteins of HSF1 and chromatin immunoprecipitation and dual‐luciferase reporter assays to investigate the transcriptional program directed by HSF1. The pharmacological inhibitor of HSF1, KRIBB11, was evaluated in popliteal lymph node metastasis models and patient‐derived xenograft models of bladder cancer. Results HSF1 expression was positively associated with lymphatic metastasis status, tumor stage, advanced grade, and poor prognosis of bladder cancer. Importantly, HSF1 enhanced the epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) of cancer cells in primary tumor to initiate metastasis, proliferation of cancer cells in lymph nodes, and macrophages infiltration to facilitate multistep lymphatic metastasis. Mechanistically, HSF1 interacted with protein arginine methyltransferase 5 (PRMT5) and jointly induced the monomethylation of histone H3 at arginine 2 (H3R2me1) and symmetric dimethylation of histone H3 at arginine 2 (H3R2me2s). This recruited the WD repeat domain 5 (WDR5)/mixed‐lineage leukemia (MLL) complex to increase the trimethylation of histone H3 at lysine 4 (H3K4me3); resulting in upregulation of lymphoid enhancer‐binding factor 1 (LEF1), matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP9), C‐C motif chemokine ligand 20 (CCL20), and E2F transcription factor 2 (E2F2). Application of KRIBB11 significantly inhibited the lymphatic metastasis of bladder cancer with no significant toxicity. Conclusion Our findings reveal a novel transcriptional program directed by the HSF1‐PRMT5‐WDR5 axis during the multistep process of lymphatic metastasis in bladder cancer. Targeting HSF1 could be a multipotent and promising therapeutic strategy for bladder cancer patients with lymphatic metastasis.

Patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models are more faithful in maintaining the characteristics of human tumors than cell lines and are widely used in drug development, although they have some disadvantages, including their relative low success rate, long turn-around time, and high costs. The collagen gel droplet embedded culture drug sensitivity test (CD-DST) has been used as an in-vitro drug sensitivity test for patients with cancer because of its high success rate of primary cell culture, high sensitivity, and good clinical relevance, but it is based on an in-vitro cell culture and may not simulate the tumor microenvironment accurately. This study aims to combine a PDX model with CD-DST to evaluate the efficiency of antitumor agents. KRpep-2d, a small peptide targeting KRAS (G12D), and oxaliplatin were used to verify the feasibility of this approach. Whole-exome sequencing and Sanger sequencing were first applied to test and validate the KRAS mutation status of a panel of colorectal cancer PDX tissues. One PDX model was verified to carry KRAS (G12D) mutation and was used for in-vivo and the CD-DST drug tests. We then established the PDX mouse model from the patient with the KRAS (G12D) mutation and obtained viable cancer cells derived from the same PDX model. Next, the antitumor abilities of KRpep-2d and oxaliplatin were estimated in the PDX model and the CD-DST. We found that KRpep-2d showed no significant antitumor effect on the xenograft model or on cancer cells derived from the same PDX model. In contrast, oxaliplatin showed significant inhibitory effects in both tests. In conclusion, the PDX model in combination with the CD-DST assay is a comprehensive and feasible method of evaluating the antitumor properties of compounds and could be applied for new drug discovery.

Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignant cancers globally. Chemotherapy resistance remains a major obstacle in the treatment of gastric cancer, and the molecular mechanisms underlying drug resistance are still not well understood. We previously reported that Zipper interacting protein kinase (ZIPK), also known as death‐associated protein kinase3, exerts an oncogenic effect on gastric cancer via activation of Akt/NF‐κB signaling and promotion of stemness. Here, we explored the roles of ZIPK in cisplatin resistance. We report that ZIPK enhances cell proliferation and invasion and reduces the antitumor activity of cisplatin in gastric cancer. In addition, our western blot data suggest that ZIPK activated the IL‐6/STAT3 signaling pathway. Furthermore, ZIPK increased the expression of IL‐6 and multidrug‐resistance genes. Using the STAT3 inhibitor stattic to block the IL‐6/STAT3 signaling pathway strongly increased the sensitivity of ZIPK‐expressed cells to cisplatin. In conclusion, ZIPK may play a role in cisplatin resistance through activation of the IL‐6/ STAT3 signaling pathway. Inhibition of STAT3 in gastric cancer overexpressing ZIPK might have potential to improve the efficacy of cisplatin.

Benzimidazole-2-carbamate (BZ) compounds, including Albendazole (Alb), are one of just two drug classes approved to treat the gastrointestinal protist Giardia duodenalis. Benzimidazoles bind to the tubulin dimer interface overlapping the colchicine binding site (CBS) of β-tubulin, thereby inhibiting microtubule polymerisation and disrupting microtubule networks. These BZ compounds are widely used as anthelmintic, anti-fungal and anti-giardial drugs. However, in helminths and fungi, BZ-resistance is widespread and caused by specific point mutations primarily occurring at F167, E198 and F200 in β-tubulin isoform 1. BZ-resistance in Giardia is reported clinically and readily generated in vitro, with significant implications for Giardia control. In Giardia, BZ mode of action (MOA) and resistance mechanisms are presumed but not proven, and no mutations in β-tubulin have been reported in association with Alb resistance (AlbR). Herein, we undertook detailed in vitro drug-susceptibility screens of 13 BZ compounds and 7 Alb structural analogues in isogenic G. duodenalis isolates selected for AlbR and podophyllotoxin, another β-tubulin inhibitor, as well as explored cross-resistance to structurally unrelated, metronidazole (Mtz). AlbR lines exhibited co-resistance to many structural variants in the BZ-pharmacophore, and cross-resistance to podophyllotoxin. AlbR lines were not cross-resistant to Mtz, but MtzR lines had enhanced survival in Alb. Lastly, Alb analogues with longer thioether substituents had decreased potency against our AlbR lines. In silico modelling indicated the Alb-β-tubulin interaction in Giardia partially overlaps the CBS and corresponds to residues associated with BZ-resistance in helminths and fungi (F167, E198, F200). Sequencing of Giardia β-tubulin identified a single nucleotide polymorphism resulting in a mutation from glutamic acid to lysine at amino acid 198 (E198K). To our knowledge, this is the first β-tubulin mutation reported for protistan BZ-resistance. This study provides insight into BZ mode of action and resistance in Giardia, and presents a potential avenue for a genetic test for clinically resistance isolates.

AbstractCoastal groundwater is an important resource in the developed region associated with human health and sustainable economic development. To identify the origins of salinity and evaluate the impact of water-rock interactions, seawater intrusion (SWI), and evaporation on groundwater in the coastal areas of Zhejiang and Fujian provinces, a comprehensive investigation was performed. Meanwhile, nitrate and fluoride indicators resulting from the anthropogenic activity and SWI were also considered. At last, the water quality index (WQI) of coastal groundwater was evaluated with geochemical and multivariate statistical methods. The results indicated that (1) the groundwater in coastal areas of Zhejiang and Fujian provinces has been affected by SWI to varying degrees. The analysis of selected ion ratios (Na+/Cl− and Br−/Cl−) and isotopic compositions showed that SWI is the predominant cause of increasing salinity in the groundwater of Zhejiang Province, while the cause is water-rock interactions (ion exchange and mineral weathering) in Fujian Province. The hydrochemical evolution path of groundwater in Zhejiang Province is Ca/Mg-HCO3 to Na-Cl, while a different pattern of Ca/Mg-HCO3 to Na (Mg/Ca)-Cl occurs in Fujian Province. However, the trend of SWI development in both provinces was freshening. (2) Nitrification, sewage infiltration, and SWI increased the NO3− content in groundwater. Some of the NO3− concentration in Fujian Province exceeds the standard, and the nitrogen pollution was more serious than in Zhejiang Province. The F− content in coastal groundwater was affected by SWI and mineral dissolution; the F− content in Zhejiang Province was higher than in Fujian Province, which was close to the groundwater standard limit. The average WQI value of Zhejiang was 103.61, and the WQI of Fujian was 61.69, indicating that the coastal groundwater quality in Fujian Province was better than in Zhejiang Province. The results of the study revealed the impact of SWI and anthropogenic activity on groundwater in the southern coastal zone of China and will be valuable for sustainable groundwater resource management.

This study describes the anatomy of the saphenous artery (SA) perforators in minipigs and the development of a new animal model. First, the anatomic characteristics of the SA and perforators in minipigs were examined after latex-lead oxide perfusion. Subsequently, the right hind limbs of 10 minipigs were used to generate capillary perforator flaps (group A; utilizing the SA and 5.5 cm of deep fascia above the knee), while all perforators of the left hind limbs were reserved (group B). Four additional minipigs were used to evaluate SA perforator flaps with capillary perforators plus sarcolemma and a small amount of muscle (group C). Preoperative and postoperative CTA of both hind limbs confirmed that all perforators were ligated in groups A and C. The average length of the SA was 14.86 ± 0.76 mm. The diameters of the SA at initiation, the medial tibial condyle, and the medial malleolus were 1.73 ± 0.15 mm, 1.50 ± 0.12 mm, and 1.30 ± 0.13 mm, respectively. There were 7.09 ± 1.16 perforators per hind limb, with an average diameter of 0.40 ± 0.13 mm (range, 0.10–0.78 mm), and the majority (96.2%) had a diameter >0.2 mm. The survival rates of the flaps in groups A, B, and C were 32 ± 39%, 100%, and 60.2 ± 17%, respectively. The position of the SA in minipigs is constant, its diameter is relatively large, and it has many perforators, allowing it to be used as a reliable model of perforator flaps, including capillary perforator flaps.

AbstractRadon (222Rn) has been widely employed as a tracer for estimating submarine groundwater discharge (SGD). However, the uncertainty of the SGD estimation remains significant, due to the spatial variability of radon in groundwater. In this study, we analyzed the hydrochemical proprieties of seawater and coastal groundwater in the Upper Gulf of Thailand and discussed the distribution characteristics of 222Rn in aquifers in terms of aquifer lithology, groundwater system recharge conditions, and water retention time. The results suggested that the residence time of groundwater and the process of groundwater salinization have the greatest impact on the distribution of 222Rn activity. A 222Rn mass balance model, synthesizing the distribution characteristics of 222Rn in groundwater and tidal influences on SGD, was built to estimate the submarine groundwater discharge in the Upper Gulf of Thailand. The result showed that the SGD flux of the Upper Gulf of Thailand was 0.0203 m/d. Moreover, there is a positive correlation between tidal height and the activity of 222Rn in groundwater. The SGD observed during the low tide was about 1.25 times higher than that observed during the high tide. This may influence the marine geochemical cycles of elements and their impact on marine ecosystems.

Heart failure is characterized by the inability of the heart to pump effectively and generate proper blood circulation to meet the body’s needs; it is a devastating condition that affects more than 100 million people globally. In spite of this, little is known about the mechanisms regulating the transition from cardiac hypertrophy to heart failure. Previously, we identified a cardiomyocyte-enriched gene, CIP, which regulates cardiac homeostasis under pathological stimulation. Here, we show that the cardiac transcriptional factor GATA4 binds the promotor of CIP gene and regulates its expression. We further determined that both CIP mRNA and protein decrease in diseased human hearts. In a mouse model, induced cardiac-specific overexpression of CIP after the establishment of cardiac hypertrophy protects the heart by inhibiting disease progression toward heart failure. Transcriptome analyses revealed that the IGF, mTORC2 and TGFβ signaling pathways mediate the inhibitory function of CIP on pathologic cardiac remodeling. Our study demonstrates GATA4 as an upstream regulator of CIP gene expression in cardiomyocytes, as well as the clinical significance of CIP expression in human heart disease. More importantly, our investigation suggests CIP is a key regulator of the transition from cardiac hypertrophy to heart failure. The ability of CIP to intervene in the onset of heart failure suggests a novel therapeutic avenue of investigation for the prevention of heart disease progression.

Gossypium arboreum (2n=2x=26, A2), the putative progenitor of the At-subgenome of Gossypium hirsutum (2n=4x=52, AD), is a repository of genes of interesting that have been eliminated during evolution/domestication of G. hirsutum. However, its valuable genes remain untapped so far due to species isolation. Here, using a synthetic amphiploid (AADDA2A2) previously reported, we developed a set of 289 G. arboreum chromosome segment introgression lines (ILs) in G. hirsutum by expanding the backcrossing population and through precise marker-assisted selection (MAS) although complex chromosomal structural variations existed between parents which severely hindered introgression. Our results showed the total coverage length of introgressed segments was 1,116.29 Mb, representing 78.48% of the At-subgenome in the G. hirsutum background, with an average segment-length of 8.69 Mb. A total of 81 co- quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for yield and fiber quality were identified by both the RSTEP-ADD-based QTL mapping and the genome-wide association study (GWAS) analysis, with 1.01–24.78% of the phenotypic variance explained. Most QTLs for boll traits showed negative additive effects, but G. arboreum still has the potential to improve boll-number traits in G. hirsutum. Most QTLs for fiber quality showed negative additive effects, implying these QTLs were domesticated in G. hirsutum compared with G. arboreum and, a small quantity of fiber quality QTLs showing positive additive effects, conversely; however, indicates that G. arboreum has the underlying genes of enhancing fiber quality of G. hirsutum. This study provides new insights into the breeding genetic potential of G. arboreum, lays the foundation for further mining favorable genes of interest, and provides guidance for inter-ploidy gene transference from relatives into cultivated crops.

OS (Osteosarcoma) is the most common malignant tumor in adolescents, and lung metastasis limits its therapeutic outcome. The present study aimed to establish a highly metastatic human OS cell line directly from lung metastases and characterize its biological functions. In this study, epithelioid tumor cells with large nucleo-cytoplasmic ratio and abundant organelles were obtained by the tissue mass adherent and repeated digestion adherent method and named ZOSL-1 cells. ZOSL-1 cells had the potential to proliferate in vitro with a doubling time of 39.28 ± 3.04 h and migrate with or without a matrix. ZOSL-1 cells were tumorigenic in vivo, and had the ability to develop lung metastasis after intratibial injection. ZOSL-1 cells expressed the osteogenic-related genes osteocalcin and osteopontin. In addition, the expression of ZOSL-1 in Fas cell surface death receptor (FAS), CD44 molecule (CD44), GNAS complex locus (GNAS), scavenger receptor class B member 1 (SCARB1), C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4), cadherin 11 (CDH11), neurofibromin 2 (NF2) and ezrin (EZR) genes may be related to its transfer efficiency. Taken together, these results indicated the high metastatic capability and important biological functions of ZOSL-1 cells. ZOSL-1 establishment provided a relevant model for the study of osteosarcoma lung metastasis.

Background The efficacy of docetaxel-based chemotherapy is limited by the development of drug resistance. Recent studies demonstrated the efficacy of anti-programmed death-1 (PD-1)/programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1) immunotherapies in metastatic prostate cancer. The ataxia telangiectasia mutation (ATM) protein plays a crucial role in maintaining genome stability and function of mitosis. Here, we aimed to determine whether PD-1/PD-L1 signaling contributes to the resistance to DTX and to elucidate the mechanism underlying DTX-induced PD-L1 expression.Methods In this retrospective study, PD-L1 expression was analyzed in 33 tumor tissue samples from prostate cancer patients. Prostate cell lines were used to perform functional assays and examine underlying mechanisms in vitro. A fully mouse prostate cancer model and a humanized chimeric mouse bearing human prostate tumors and peripheral blood mononuclear cells were used for in vivo assays.Results We have shown that DTX, a chemotherapeutic drug which causing microtubule interference, could significantly induce the expression of PD-L1 in prostate cancer cells. This effect is blocked by the inhibition of ATM, suggesting that it plays an essential role in PD-L1 expression upregulated by DTX. Mechanistic studies have shown that ATM activity in cancer cells enhances the stability of the NF-κB essential modulator (NEMO), which leading to an increase in the NF-κB activity and PD-L1 expression. Using the mouse model, it was further demonstrated that a combination of ATM and NEMO inhibitors along with DTX augmented the antitumor efficacy of chemotherapy, which are comparable to that of PD-L1 antibody.Conclusions Our findings have revealed that a previously unrecognized ATM-NEMO signaling which induced by DTX is capable of suppressing tumor immunity by activating the expression of PD-L1, suggesting that the ATM-NEMO-NF-κB axis can be exploited to restore the immune balance and overcome cancer resistance triggered by DTX.Graphic Abstract: supplementary file 1

MicroRNAs have been proposed as novel biomarkers for the diagnosis and treatment of many types of cancer. The levels of five candidate microRNAs (miRNAs) (miR-99a-5p, miR-31-5p, miR-138-5p, miR-21-5p, and miR-375-3p) in sera from oral cancer patients and paired tumor and normal tissues were detected by real-time qPCR. The diagnostic power of these miRNAs was analyzed by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models of oral cancer were established and utilized to verify the potential therapeutic effect of miR-31-5p. Candidate miRNAs were screened from our previous studies and verified in 11 paired oral cancer and adjacent normal tissues. Only serum miR-31-5p levels were significantly different between oral cancer patients and healthy controls and between pre- and postoperative patients. Based on the logistic regression model, this panel of five miRNAs distinguished oral cancer patients from healthy control, with an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.776 (sensitivity = 76.8% and specificity = 73.6%). Furthermore, a miR-31-5p mimic enhanced the proliferation of normal epithelial cells, and antagomiR-31-5p inhibited the proliferation of oral cancer cells in vitro. In vivo, antagomiR-31-5p significantly inhibited tumor growth in oral cancer PDX models. Our findings suggest that circulating miR-31-5p might act as an independent biomarker for oral cancer diagnosis and could serve as a therapeutic target for oral cancer. Background Although glycoursodeoxycholic acid (GUDCA) has been associated with the improvement of metabolic disorders, its effect on atherosclerosis remains elusive. This study aimed to investigate the role of GUDCA in the development of atherosclerosis and its potential mechanisms. Methods and Results Human THP‐1 macrophages were used to investigate the effect of GUDCA on oxidized low‐density lipoprotein–induced foam cell formation in vitro. We found that GUDCA downregulated scavenger receptor A1 mRNA expression, reduced oxidized low‐density lipoprotein uptake, and inhibited macrophage foam cell formation. In an in vivo study, apolipoprotein E–deficient mice were fed a Western diet for 10 weeks to induce atherosclerosis, and then were gavaged once daily with or without GUDCA for 18 weeks. Parameters of systemic metabolism and atherosclerosis were detected. We found that GUDCA improved cholesterol homeostasis and protected against atherosclerosis progression as evidenced by reduced plaque area along with lipid deposition, ameliorated local chronic inflammation, and elevated plaque stability. In addition, 16S rDNA sequencing showed that GUDCA administration partially normalized the Western diet–associated gut microbiota dysbiosis. Interestingly, the changes of bacterial genera (Alloprevotella, Parabacteroides, Turicibacter, and Alistipes) modulated by GUDCA were correlated with the plaque area in mice aortas. Conclusions Our study for the first time indicates that GUDCA attenuates the development of atherosclerosis, probably attributable to the inhibition of foam cell formation, maintenance of cholesterol homeostasis, and modulation of gut microbiota.

Abstract The bacterial microbiota in the gut varies among species, as well as with habitat, diet, age, and other factors. Intestinal microbiota homeostasis allows a host to adjust metabolic and immune performances in response to environmental changes. Therefore, potential implications of the gut microbiota in sustaining the health of the host have gained increasing attention in the field of endangered animal conservation. However, the effect of host intraspecies genetic variation on the gut microbiota is unknown. Moreover, little is known about the complexity of the gut mycobiota. Tigers are listed as endangered species, raising worldwide concern. Potential influences of subspecies, diet, and age on the gut microbiota in tigers were investigated in this study to provide a better understanding of the response of the tiger gut microbiota to external changes. The results revealed that the impacts of the factors listed above on gut bacterial and fungal communities are versatile. Host intraspecies genetic variation significantly impacted only fungal alpha diversity of the gut microbiota. Differences in diet, on the other hand, had a significant impact on alpha diversity of the gut microbiota, but exerted different effects on beta diversity of gut bacterial and fungal communities. Host age had no significant impact on the diversity of the gut fungal communities, but significantly impacted beta diversity of gut bacterial communities. This comprehensive study of tiger gut microbiota is an essential reference for tiger conservation when considering feeding and management strategies, and will contribute to a better understanding of the mycobiota in wildlife.

K+ is an essential nutrient for plant growth and is responsible for many important physiological processes. K+ deficiency leads to crop yield losses, and overexpression of K+ transporter genes has been proven to be an effective way to resolve this problem. However, current research on the overexpression of K+ transporter genes is limited to plant sources. TrkH is a bacterial K+ transporter whose function generally depends on the regulation of TrkA. To date, whether TrkH can improve K+ uptake in eukaryotic organisms is still unknown. In this study, a novel MbtrkH gene was cloned from marine microbial metagenomic DNA. Functional complementation and K+-depletion analyses revealed that MbTrkH functions in K+ uptake in the K+-deficient yeast strain CY162. Moreover, K+-depletion assays revealed that MbtrkH overexpression improves plant K+ uptake. K+ hydroponic culture experiments showed that, compared with WT tobacco lines, MbtrkH transgenic tobacco lines had significantly greater fresh weights, dry weights and K+ contents. These results indicate that MbTrkH promotes K+ uptake independently of TrkA in eukaryotes and provide a new strategy for improving K+-use efficiency in plants.

Oxidative stress is closely related to the occurrence and development of various diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular and infectious diseases. We identified six critical genetic variants related to oxidative stress, and evaluated their main effects and their interaction effects on hepatitis B virus (HBV)-induced liver diseases. We enrolled 3,128 Han Chinese subjects into five groups: healthy controls, chronic hepatitis B (CHB), liver cirrhosis (LC), hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and natural clearance. We then determined the genotypes in each group for CYBA-rs4673, NCF4-rs1883112, NOX4-rs1836882, rs3017887, SOD2-rs4880, and GCLM-rs41303970, and evaluated the association between these variants and HBV-induced liver diseases. Gene-gene interactions were evaluated using generalized multifactor dimensionality reduction, logistic regression, and four-by-two tables. Significant associations were observed between healthy controls and the CIB group (CHB+LC+HCC). The CYBA-rs4673AG genotype was associated with a 1.356 rate of susceptibility of HBV-induced liver disease compared to the wild type GG genotype. The NCF4-rs1883112G allele occurred more frequently in healthy controls than in the CIB group in all three models (dominant, codominant, and recessive). Nox4-rs1836882 TC showed a protective association, being more frequent in healthy controls compared to the wild type TT genotype. GCLM-rs41303970A was associated with HBV-induced liver disease. The overall best model by multifactor dimensionality reduction was a five factor interaction model that had the highest cross validation consistency (10/10) and test accuracy (0.5669), P= 0.001. Oxidative stress-related gene polymorphisms are likely to be associated with HBV-induced liver disease, suggesting that information on these variations is useful for risk assessment of HBV-induced liver disease.

This paper proposes a new source number estimator with improved degrees of freedom for blind source separation, where the mixing matrix does not have the parameterized structure. In order to enhance the degrees of freedom, we exploit the sample dependence of each source and construct a new matrix by vectorizing some delayed covariance matrices based on Khatri-Rao product. Then, an improved Gerschgorin disk estimator for source number is presented based on the new matrix. This estimator can detect the number of sources up to 2M - 1 using only M sensors, while the traditional source number estimators can merely estimate the number of sources less than M employing the same number of sensors. Simulation results verify the superiority of the proposed method by comparing with the existing source enumeration methods in scenario of spatially non-uniform noise when the sensor number is more than the source number and validate the reliability of the proposed method in the case with fewer sensors than sources.

Th17 activity has been implicated in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), which is a systemic autoimmune disease with a typical clinical manifestation of lupus nephritis (LN). Retinoic acid receptor-related orphan receptor gamma t (RORγt) has been shown to be important for Th17 differentiation. In this study, we evaluated the inhibition of RORγt activity by 3β-acetyloxy-oleanolic acid (AOA), a small molecule isolated from the root of Symplocos laurina, a traditional herb belonging to South China. We demonstrated that AOA can inhibit RORγt activity and prevent SLE pathogenesis in a pristane-induced LN model. The results showed that AOA decreased RORγt transcription activity in a reporter assay and prevented Th17 differentiation in vitro. In vivo studies showed that AOA treatment decreased serum anti-dsDNA antibody and alleviated renal pathologic damage as well as antibody complex accumulation in the pristane-induced LN model. These results demonstrated that AOA can improve the clinical manifestation of LN, indicating potential application in SLE therapy.

Gastric cancer is the third leading cause of cancer death worldwide. In this study, we tried to clarify the function of KLF5 in gastric cancer. Copy number variation (CNV) and the expression of KLF5 were interrogated in public datasets. The clinical significance of KLF5 amplification and gene expression in gastric cancer were evaluated. The function of KLF5 in cell proliferation was studied in gastric cancer cell lines and organoids. We found that KLF5 amplification mainly occurred in the chromosome instable tumors (CIN) and was significantly associated with TP53 mutation. In addition, higher KLF5 expression correlated with more locally invasive gastric cancer and higher T stage. Next, a KLF5 gene expression signature was curated. The genes in the signature were involved in cell development, cell cycle regulation, cell death, suggesting potential roles played by KLF5. Functional studies using siRNAs revealed that KLF5 was essential for the proliferation of gastric cancer cells. Finally, using gastric organoid models, we revealed that the proliferation of organoids was significantly inhibited after the down regulation of KLF5. Our study revealed that KLF5 was amplified and over-expressed in gastric cancer, and it may play an oncogene-like role in gastric cancer by supporting cell proliferation.

The capability of path tracking largely determines the operational efficiency of deep-sea mining vehicles. In this paper, the relationships of vehicle–sediment mechanical interaction were obtained by sinkage and shear tests. Then, an overset grid method was used to establish the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model of the vehicle, and the spatial hydrodynamic distribution was calculated in different motion states. Based on the above research, a multi-body dynamic (MBD) model of the mining vehicle was developed, which considered the spatial hydrodynamic effects and the mechanical interaction between vehicle and sediment. In addition, a path-tracking controller based on fuzzy logic control was proposed. A genetic algorithm optimized the fuzzy rules through co-simulation between the controller and the MBD model. Finally, the co-simulation results of the vehicle which moved along the expected path indicated that the performance of the optimized fuzzy controller was preferable to the original fuzzy controller.

During the last several decades, researchers have made significant advances in sedimentary environment interpretation of grain-size analysis, but these improvements have often depended on the subjective experience of the researcher and were usually combined with other methods. Currently, researchers have been using a larger number of data mining and knowledge discovering methods to explore the potential relationships in sediment grain-size analysis. In this paper, we will apply bipartite graph theory to construct a Sample/Grain-Size network model and then construct a Sample network model projected from this bipartite network. Furthermore, we will use the Mini Batch K-means algorithm with the most appropriate parameters (reassignment ratio ϵ=0.025 and mini batch = 25) to cluster the sediment samples. We will use four representative evaluation indices to verify the precision of the clustering result. Simulation results demonstrate that this algorithm can divide the Sample network into three sedimentary categorical clusters: marine, fluvial, and lacustrine. According to the results of previous studies obtained from a variety of indices, the precision of experimental results about sediment grain-size category is up to 0.92254367, a fact which shows that this method of analyzing sedimentary environment by grain size is extremely effective and accurate.

Osteosarcomas are common bone malignancies in children and adolescents. LDOC1 (leucine zipper, down-regulated in cancer 1), a tumor suppressor, is down-regulated in many cancers. In this study, we investigated the role of LDOC1 in tumor metastasis and its prognostic significance in osteosarcomas. We established osteosarcoma cells stably expressing LDOC1, driven by an HIV-based lentiviral system. We investigated the impact of LDOC1 on migration and invasion abilities in these cells using a transwell assay. LDOC1-associated changes in expression of metastasis-promoting genes were analyzed with a quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction primer array. A xenograft tumor model (n = 7 mice/group) was used to assess the effect of LDOC1 on osteosarcoma metastasis in vivo. The overall survival and disease-free survival of osteosarcoma patients (n = 74) were analyzed retrospectively based on immunohistochemical analysis of LDOC1 levels in tumors and Kaplan–Meier analysis. LDOC1-expressing osteosarcoma cells displayed decreased migration and invasion in vitro. The quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction primer array data showed that increased LDOC1 expression up-regulated many metastasis-suppressor genes. In the xenograft model, micro-computed tomography imaging data indicated that increased LDOC1 expression is associated with weaker lung metastasis ability. The Wnt5a signaling pathway promotes osteosarcoma metastasis; LDOC1 expression decreased Wnt5a levels in osteosarcoma cells. Kaplan–Meier analysis showed that higher LDOC1 expression was associated with improved osteosarcoma patient overall survival and disease free survival (p = 0.022). Our data show that LDOC1 is a tumor suppressor in osteosarcoma, and that it regulates metastasis of osteosarcoma cells. Furthermore, LDOC1 might be a valuable prognostic marker in osteosarcomas.

Autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome (ALPS) is an incurable disease mainly caused by the defect of Fas-mediated apoptosis and characterized by nonmalignant autoimmune lymphoproliferation. Stabilized β-catenin could not only potentiate Fas-mediated T cell apoptosis via upregulating the expression of Fas on activated T cells, but also potentiate T cell apoptosis via intrinsic apoptotic pathway. In the present study, we introduced β-catTg into lpr/lpr mice and aimed to explore the potential role of stabilized β-catenin (β-catTg) in the development of ALPS-like phenotypes of lpr/lpr mice. We found that the total splenocyte cells and some compositions were slightly downregulated in β-catTglpr/lpr mice, especially the CD4 and CD8 TEM cells were significantly reduced. Meanwhile, stabilized β-catenin obviously decreased the numbers of spleen TCRβ+CD4−CD8− T (DNT) cells, and the levels of some serum proinflammatory factors also were lowered in β-catTglpr/lpr mice. Beyond that, stabilized β-catenin slightly lowered the levels of the serum autoantibodies and the scores of kidney histopathology of β-catTglpr/lpr mice compared with lpr/lpr mice. Our study suggested that stabilized β-catenin ameliorated some ALPS-like symptoms of lpr/lpr mice by potentiating Fas-independent signal-mediated T cell apoptosis, which might uncover a potential novel therapeutic direction for ALPS.

The oil jet lubrication performance of a high-speed and heavy-load gear drive is significantly influenced and determined by the oil jet nozzle layout, as there is extremely limited meshing clearance for the impinging oil stream and an inevitable blocking effect by the rotating gears. A novel mathematical model for calculating the impingement depth of lubrication oil jetting on an orthogonal face gear surface has been developed based on meshing face gear theory and the oil jet lubrication process, and this model contains comprehensive design parameters for the jet nozzle layout and face gear pair. Computational fluid dynamic (CFD) numerical simulations for the oil jet lubrication of an orthogonal face gear pair under different nozzle layout parameters show that a greater mathematically calculated jet impingement depth results in a greater oil volume fraction and oil pressure distribution. The influences of the jet nozzle layout parameters on the lubrication performance have been analyzed and optimized. The relationship between the measured tooth surface temperature from the experiments and the corresponding calculated impingement depth shows that a lower temperature appears in a situation with a greater impingement depth. Good agreement between the mathematical model with the numerical simulation and the experiment validates the effectiveness and accuracy of the method for evaluating the face gear oil jet lubrication performance when using the impingement depth mathematical model.

A world record conversion efficiency of 26.81% has been achieved recently by LONGi team on a solar cell with industry-grade silicon wafer (274 cm2, M6 size). An unparalleled high fill factor (FF) of up to 86.59% has also been certified in a separated device. The theoretical FF limit has been predicted to be 89.26%, while the practical FF is far below this limit for a prolonged interval due to the constraints of recombination (i.e., SRH recombination) and series resistance. The ideality factor (m) in the equivalent circuit of silicon solar cells is consistently ranging from 1 to 2 and rarely falls below 1, resulting in a relatively lower FF than 85%. Here, this work complements a systematic simulation study to demonstrate how to approach the FF limit in design of silicon solar cells. Firstly, a diode component with an ideality factor equal to 2/3 corresponding to Auger recombination is incorporated in the equivalent circuit for LONGi ultra-high FF solar cell; Secondly, an advanced equivalent circuit is put forward for comprehensive analysis of bulk recombination and surface recombination on the performance, in which specific ideality factors are directly correlated with various recombination mechanisms exhibiting explicit reverse saturation current density (J0). Finally, we evaluate precisely the route for approaching theoretical FF in practical solar cell fabrication based on electrical design parameters using the developed model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

By removing the immunogenic cellular components through various decellularization methods, decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) is considered a promising material in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine with highly preserved physicochemical properties and superior biocompatibility. However, decellularization treatment can lead to some loss of structural integrity, mechanical strength, degradation stability, and biological performance of dECM biomaterials. Therefore, physical and chemical crosslinking methods are preferred to restore or even improve the biomechanical properties, stability, and bioactivity, and to achieve a delicate balance between degradation of the implanted biomaterial and regeneration of the host tissue. This review provides an overview of dECM biomaterials, and describes and compares the mechanisms and characteristics of commonly used crosslinking methods for dECM, with a focus on the potential applications of versatile dECM‐based biomaterials derived from skin, cardiac tissues (pericardium, heart valves, myocardial tissue), blood vessels, liver, and kidney, modified with different chemical crosslinking reagents, in tissue and organ regeneration.
