The role of a motion planner is pivotal in quadrotor applications, yet existing methods often struggle to adapt to complex environments, limiting their ability to achieve fast, safe, and robust flight. In this letter, we introduce a performance-enhanced quadrotor motion planner designed for autonomous flight in complex environments including dense obstacles, dynamic obstacles, and unknown disturbances. The global planner generates an initial trajectory through kinodynamic path searching and refines it using B-spline trajectory optimization. Subsequently, the local planner takes into account the quadrotor dynamics, estimated disturbance, global reference trajectory, control cost, time cost, and safety constraints to generate real-time control inputs, utilizing the framework of model predictive contouring control. Both simulations and real-world experiments corroborate the heightened robustness, safety, and speed of the proposed motion planner. Additionally, our motion planner achieves flights at more than 6.8 m/s in a challenging and complex racing scenario.

For real-world navigation, it is important to endow robots with the capabilities to navigate safely and efficiently in a complex environment with both dynamic and non-convex static obstacles. However, achieving path-finding in non-convex complex environments without maps as well as enabling multiple robots to follow social rules for obstacle avoidance remains challenging problems. In this letter, we propose a socially aware robot mapless navigation algorithm, namely Safe Reinforcement Learning-Optimal Reciprocal Collision Avoidance (SRL-ORCA). This is a multi-agent safe reinforcement learning algorithm by using ORCA as an external knowledge to provide a safety guarantee. This algorithm further introduces traffic norms of human society to improve social comfort and achieve cooperative avoidance by following human social customs. The result of experiments shows that SRL-ORCA learns strategies to obey specific traffic rules. Compared to DRL, SRL-ORCA shows a significant improvement in navigation success rate in different complex scenarios mixed with the application of the same training network. SRL-ORCA is able to cope with non-convex obstacle environments without falling into local minimal regions and has a 14.1\% improvement in path quality (i.e., the average time to target) compared to ORCA. This paper proposes a novel distributed coverage controller for a multi-agent system with constant-speed unicycle robots (CSUR). The work is motivated by the limitation of the conventional method that does not ensure the satisfaction of hard state- and input-dependent constraints and leads to feasibility issues for multi-CSUR systems. In this paper, we solve these problems by designing a novel coverage cost function and a saturated gradient-search-based control law. Invariant set theory and Lyapunov-based techniques are used to prove the state-dependent confinement and the convergence of the system state to the optimal coverage configuration, respectively. The controller is implemented in a distributed manner based on a novel communication standard among the agents. A series of simulation case studies are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed coverage controller in different initial conditions and with control parameters. A comparison study in simulation reveals the advantage of the proposed method in terms of avoiding infeasibility. The experiment study verifies the applicability of the method to real robots with uncertainties. The development procedure of the method from theoretical analysis to experimental validation provides a novel framework for multi-agent system coordinate control with complex agent dynamics.

This paper investigates the problem of securing exponentially fast consensus (exponential consensus for short) for identical agents with finite-dimensional linear system dynamics over dynamic network topology. Our aim is to find the weakest possible conditions that guarantee exponentially fast consensus using a Lyapunov function consisting of a sum of terms of the same functional form. We first investigate necessary conditions, starting by examining the system (both agent and network) parameters. It is found that controllability of the linear agents is necessary for reaching consensus. Then, to work out necessary conditions incorporating the network topology, we construct a set of Laplacian matrix-valued functions. The precompactness of this set of functions is shown to be a significant generalization of existing assumptions on network topology, including the common assumption that the edge weights are bounded piecewise constant functions or continuous functions. With the aid of such a precompactness assumption and restricting the Lyapunov function to one consisting of a sum of terms of the same functional form, we prove that a joint $(\delta, T)$-connectivity condition on the network topology is necessary for exponential consensus. Finally, we investigate how the above two ``necessities'' work together to guarantee exponential consensus. To partially address this problem, we define a synchronization index to characterize the interplay between agent parameters and network topology. Based on this notion, it is shown that by designing a proper feedback matrix and under the precompactness assumption, exponential consensus can be reached globally and uniformly if the joint $(\delta,T)$-connectivity and controllability conditions are satisfied, and the synchronization index is not less than one.

To further understand the underlying mechanism of various reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms and also to better use the optimization theory to make further progress in RL, many researchers begin to revisit the linear-quadratic regulator (LQR) problem, whose setting is simple and yet captures the characteristics of RL. Inspired by this, this work is concerned with the model-free design of stochastic LQR controller for linear systems subject to Gaussian noises, from the perspective of both RL and primal-dual optimization. From the RL perspective, we first develop a new model-free off-policy policy iteration (MF-OPPI) algorithm, in which the sampled data is repeatedly used for updating the policy to alleviate the data-hungry problem to some extent. We then provide a rigorous analysis for algorithm convergence by showing that the involved iterations are equivalent to the iterations in the classical policy iteration (PI) algorithm. From the perspective of optimization, we first reformulate the stochastic LQR problem at hand as a constrained non-convex optimization problem, which is shown to have strong duality. Then, to solve this non-convex optimization problem, we propose a model-based primal-dual (MB-PD) algorithm based on the properties of the resulting Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions. We also give a model-free implementation for the MB-PD algorithm by solving a transformed dual feasibility condition. More importantly, we show that the dual and primal update steps in the MB-PD algorithm can be interpreted as the policy evaluation and policy improvement steps in the PI algorithm, respectively. Finally, we provide one simulation example to show the performance of the proposed algorithms.

In this paper, we investigate remote state estimation against an intelligent denial-of-service (DoS) attack over a vulnerable wireless network whose channel undergoes attenuation and distortion caused by fading. We use the sensor to observe system states and transmit its local state estimates to the remote center. Meanwhile, the attacker injects a jamming signal to destroy the packet accepted by the remote center and causes the performance degradation. Most of the existing works are built on a time-invariant channel state information (CSI) model in which the channel fading is stationary. However, the wireless communication channels are more prone to dynamic changes. To capture this time-variant property in the channel quality of the real-world networks, we study the fading channel network whose channel model is characterized by a generalized finite-state Markov chain. With the goals of two players in infinite-time horizon, we describe the conflicting characteristic between the attacker and the sensor with a general-sum stochastic game. Moreover, the Q-learning techniques are applied to obtain an optimal strategy pair at a Nash equilibrium. Also the monotone structure of the optimal stationary strategy is constructed under a sufficient condition. Besides, when channel gain is known a priori, except for the full Channel State Information (CSI), we also investigate the partial CSI, where Bayesian games are employed. Based on the player's own channel information and the belief on the channel distribution of other players, the energy strategy at a Nash equilibrium is obtained.

To contribute to a smart grid, the unit commitment and dispatch (UCD) is a very important problem to be revisited in the future microgrid environment. In this paper, the UCD problem is studied by taking account of both traditional thermal units and distributed generation units (DGs) while considering demand response (DR) and carbon emissions trading (CET). Then, the UCD problem is reformulated as the optimal switching problem of a hybrid system. The reformulation allows convenient handling of time-dependent start-up cost for dynamic programming (DP). Afterwards, a closed-loop hierarchical operation (CLHO) algorithm is developed which is capable of producing the optimal schedule in the closed-loop behavior. Theoretical analysis is also presented to show the equivalence of the reformulation and the effectiveness of the CLHO algorithm. Finally, the closed-loop behavior and the effectiveness of the algorithm are further verified by simulation studies. It is also shown that low emission quotas and high emission trading price help reduce the total carbon emissions.

We consider a scenario in which a DoS attacker with the limited power resource jams a wireless network through which the packet from a sensor is sent to a remote estimator to estimate the system state. To degrade the estimation quality with power constraint, the attacker aims to solve how much power to obstruct the channel each time, which is the recently proposed optimal attack energy management problem. The existing works are built on an ideal link model in which the packet dropout never occurs without attack. To encompass wireless transmission losses, we introduce the SINR-based link. First, we focus on the case when the attacker employs the constant power level. To maximize the terminal error at the remote estimator, we provide some sufficient conditions for the existence of an explicit solution to the optimal static attack energy management problem and the solution is constructed. Compared with the existing result in which corresponding sufficient conditions work only when the system matrix is normal, the obtained conditions in this paper are viable for a general system and shown to be more relaxed. For the other system index, the average error, the associated sufficient conditions are also derived based on different analysis with the existing work. And a feasible method is presented for both indexes when the system cannot meet the sufficient conditions. Then when the real-time ACK information can be acquired, an MDP based algorithm is designed to solve the optimal dynamic attack energy management problem. We further study the optimal tradeoff between attack power and system degradation. By moving power constraint into the objective function to maximize system index and minimize energy consumption, the other MDP based algorithm is proposed to find the optimal attack policy which is further shown to have a monotone structure. The theoretical results are illustrated by simulations.

This paper is concerned with developing a novel distributed Kalman filtering algorithm over wireless sensor networks based on randomized consensus strategy. Compared with the centralized algorithm, distributed filtering techniques require less computation per sensor and lead to more robust estimation since they simply use the information from the neighboring nodes in the network. However, poor local sensor estimation caused by limited observability and network topology changes which interfere the global consensus are challenging issues. Motivated by this observation, we propose a novel randomized gossip-based distributed Kalman filtering algorithm. Information exchange and computation in the proposed algorithm can be carried out in an arbitrarily connected network of nodes. In addition, the computational burden can be distributed for a sensor which communicates with a stochastically selected neighbor at each clock step under schemes of gossip algorithm. In this case, the error covariance matrix changes stochastically at every clock step, thus the convergence is considered in a probabilistic sense. We provide the mean square convergence analysis of the proposed algorithm. Under a sufficient condition, we show that the proposed algorithm is quite appealing as it achieves better mean square error performance theoretically than the noncooperative decentralized Kalman filtering algorithm. Besides, considering the limited computation, communication, and energy resources in the wireless sensor networks, we propose an optimization problem which minimizes the average expected state estimation error based on the proposed algorithm. To solve the proposed problem efficiently, we transform it into a convex optimization problem. And a sub-optimal solution is attained. Examples and simulations are provided to illustrate the theoretical results.

In this paper, we study the problem of finding the least square solutions of over-determined linear algebraic equations over networks in a distributed manner. Each node has access to one of the linear equations and holds a dynamic state. We first propose a distributed least square solver over connected undirected interaction graphs and establish a necessary and sufficient on the step-size under which the algorithm exponentially converges to the least square solution. Next, we develop a distributed least square solver over strongly connected directed graphs and show that the proposed algorithm exponentially converges to the least square solution provided the step-size is sufficiently small. Moreover, we develop a finite-time least square solver by equipping the proposed algorithms with a finite-time decentralized computation mechanism. The theoretical findings are validated and illustrated by numerical simulation examples.

In this paper, we aim to investigate the synchronization problem of dynamical systems, which can be of generic linear or Lipschitz nonlinear type, communicating over directed switching network topologies. A mild connectivity assumption on the switching topologies is imposed, which allows them to be directed and jointly connected. We propose a novel analysis framework from both algebraic and geometric perspectives to justify the attractiveness of the synchronization manifold. Specifically, it is proven that the complementary space of the synchronization manifold can be spanned by certain subspaces. These subspaces can be the eigenspaces of the nonzero eigenvalues of Laplacian matrices in linear case. They can also be subspaces in which the projection of the nonlinear self-dynamics still retains the Lipschitz property. This allows to project the states of the dynamical systems into these subspaces and transform the synchronization problem under consideration equivalently into a convergence one of the projected states in each subspace. Then, assuming the joint connectivity condition on the communication topologies, we are able to work out a simple yet effective and unified convergence analysis for both types of dynamical systems. More specifically, for partial-state coupled generic linear systems, it is proven that synchronization can be reached if an extra condition, which is easy to verify in several cases, on the system dynamics is satisfied. For Lipschitz-type nonlinear systems with positive-definite inner coupling matrix, synchronization is realized if the coupling strength is strong enough to stabilize the evolution of the projected states in each subspace under certain conditions., Comment: 17 pages, 11 figures

This paper aims to provide a systemic analysis to social opinion dynamics subject to individual biases. As a generalization of the classical DeGroot social interactions, defined by linearly coupled dynamics of peer opinions that evolve over time, biases add to state-dependent edge weights and therefore lead to highly nonlinear network dynamics. Previous studies have dealt with convergence and stability analysis of such systems for a few specific initial node opinions and network structures, and here we focus on how individual biases affect social equilibria and their stabilities. First of all, we prove that when the initial network opinions are polarized towards one side of the state space, node biases will drive the opinion evolution to the corresponding interval boundaries. Such polarization attraction effect continues to hold under even directed and switching network structures. Next, for a few fundamental network structures, some important interior network equilibria are presented explicitly for a wide range of system parameters, which are shown to be locally unstable in general. Particularly, the interval centroid is proven to be unstable regardless of the bias level and the network topologies.

This paper proposes three different distributed event-triggered control algorithms to achieve leader-follower consensus for a network of Euler-Lagrange agents. We firstly propose two model-independent algorithms for a subclass of Euler-Lagrange agents without the vector of gravitational potential forces. By model-independent, we mean that each agent can execute its algorithm with no knowledge of the agent self-dynamics. A variable-gain algorithm is employed when the sensing graph is undirected; algorithm parameters are selected in a fully distributed manner with much greater flexibility compared to all previous work concerning event-triggered consensus problems. When the sensing graph is directed, a constant-gain algorithm is employed. The control gains must be centrally designed to exceed several lower bounding inequalities which require limited knowledge of bounds on the matrices describing the agent dynamics, bounds on network topology information and bounds on the initial conditions. When the Euler-Lagrange agents have dynamics which include the vector of gravitational potential forces, an adaptive algorithm is proposed which requires more information about the agent dynamics but can estimate uncertain agent parameters. For each algorithm, a trigger function is proposed to govern the event update times. At each event, the controller is updated, which ensures that the control input is piecewise constant and saves energy resources. We analyse each controllers and trigger function and exclude Zeno behaviour.
